Ever think about how Globby and GoGo would've been neighbors?

sooo anyway time to talk about Obake again, are we surprised? So it’s obvious that in the series, Obake is pretty unempathetic. He only cares about a few people and is pretty quick to abandon them when they fail him. The only time he’s shown care for anyone is with Trina, and when he sent Baymax to save Hiro (after trying to kill his family, friends, and everyone in his city).
Of course, a lot of this is because he just can’t tell right from wrong because brain tumor/damage (I’m more on the tumor side of things because Baymax said it was fixable and you can’t exactly fix brain damage) But also I think it’s kiiinda ableist to say the low empathy came from the accident bc like yeah not telling right from wrong is Bad and really hurts people but low empathy isn’t in and of itself a bad thing and doesn’t inherently harm others (I know because I have it myself). So I choose to believe he had low empathy before the accident because fuck it he’s bad rep but I don’t get much over here in Stigmatized Symptoms Land.
The whole thing about all the bad things about him being from a brain tumor is a little ableist in and of itself bc it’s like “hey this kid was completely normal but the disability made him Bad”. But despite it, I do think it was an interesting move character wise and I wouldn’t have liked him nearly as much if he knew right from wrong and was evil by choice.. so it’s complicated. So I kind of fix it for myself by being like “yep, this kid did have the Stigmatized Symptom (low empathy) before the accident and then that accident just fucked him up big time and shoved him down a dark path which cut him off from anyone that could have helped him adjust to the acquired amorality and eventually blurred his view of the world so much that he became a full-on villain”
TL, DR: Obake had low empathy before the accident and it’s ableist to blame it on the brain tumor because low empathy isn’t inherently bad or damaging to other people.

This past weeks have been horrifyingly busy, so in my spare time I used to sketch them a lot to relieve stress and cope :p Parental Control requires more time and effort- careful planning, so that's why I didn't want to push creating something that may be very low quality ><
Thank you for sticking around!! Hopefully in some more days we'll go back to Cyn and Golden + some cute fanart + ocasional inkstar too<33333

F it we ball here have my character studies of the homicipher boys bc my ass has been knee deep in this game for making the mod and i need to place my notes somewhere anyway. Call me homicipher matpat...
SPOILERS. Obviously..
Tumblr media
Crawling
Goal: stay with Adami
Abilities: intelligence, knowledge of the layout of the other world, knowledge of how to survive encounters with aggressive entities, physical strength [strong upper body, able to kill Stitch with no weapons],speed [can go as fast as a person running while crawling]
Crawling works as Adami's primary tutorial trough the otherworld. It's not clear what exactly caused his infatuation with her since it's near instant after seeing her for the first time. He has an understanding of many locations and people, as well as how the world works and what Adami wants to ask of him. He's playful, defaulting to a smile as his neutral state, and he's amidst the few characters to produce sound in-game. Usually giggles or cries. He's also acting as the male lead, and most of his endings and interactions can be read as romantic, being one of the only characters to say he likes Adami. (Other being Scarletella)
Extra: Crawling is able to stand but he refers to being bad at using his legs. When he does stand, he walks slowly and sluggishly as compared to his ability to nearly sprint while on all fours. Confirming this.
Extra: Yatsunagi said in a tweet that if you choose to exit the otherworld whitout Crawling, he will remain waiting there forever waiting for Adami to return., which is reminescent of the story of Hachiko the dog, who waited at the station for his owner to return forever.
Extra: in some concept art, Crawling is shown to be a similar height to Silvair when standing up
Scarletella
Goal: obtain Adami's name
Abilities: projection, reality warping of some sort, illusions, telepathy, teleportation, creating and controlling sub spaces or larger illusions [blood dimension, ghost apartments], free roam between worlds [his projected body only]
Scarletella works as the main antagonist of the game. He is the reason Adami happened across the otherworld, scaring her towards an entrance. He was an urban legend that haunted the ghost apartments, a location that only appears on rainy days, where Adami was presumedly dumping bodies or leading people there to kill them. This causes Scarlet to grow an infatuation with Adami, as he would feed on the corpses she left there, and for him to mistakenly assume she was courting him by feeding him corpses. Scarletella mostly affects Adami through afflicting her mind, trying to break her into giving him her name.
Extra: he's possibly inspired by a Kasa-obake, a type of yokai that's thought to be a tsukumogami, an object that if left abandonned long enough, will gain life. The Kasa-Obake is a living red umbrella, though those umbrellas are usually traditional umbrellas and take the shape of an umbrella with a single leg and an eye.
Extra: Yatsunagi said she wanted to draw a woman with a red umbrella but ended up making a guy after all.
Extra: Yatsunagi said that Scarletella knows the realworld language despite being born a monster, and that he possibly learns other languages trough reading minds and absorbing that knowledge. She also says that knowing a language and communicating are different, and that Scarletella only thinks for himself.
Extra: Scarletella is inspired by the idea of japanese urban legends (like Kuchisake-onna, Hanako-san, Hasshaku-sama, The red room, Gozu, Aka manto, etc).
Extra: Gap reffers to the ghost appartments as 'his world'. This is also taking place in what seems to be a dream sequence or an alternate location since Adami will either wake back with crawling or in another otherworld location, and not in the real world. So it's much more likely gap reffers strictly to the alternate plane of the Ghost appartments and the blood water domain as Scarlet's world and not the overall otherworld, since it continues to exist independently from Scarlet after he is defeated, and most characters don't seem to be aware of his existence at all.
Extra: In the videogame Ghostwire tokyo you can encounter a quest that will lead you to meet a variation of the Kuchisake-Onna that is completely red and in a red trenchcoat which is reminescent of Scarletella's design. There are also locations of infinite shallow water simmilar to the location you fight him in.
Silvair
Goal: research and study the unknown (primarily how realworld beings are affected by the otherworld)
Abilities: intelligence, medical knowledge on other species [unlike nurse], knowledge of explosives, physical strength [lifts a heavy weapon easily], regeneration
Silvair works as Adami's main source of information in the otherworld. His knowledge of everything including language as well as how to effectively teach things results in him being one of the better sources for finding words early game. While he's shown as curteous and polite, he also shows no remorse in brutalizing others for his own morbid curiosity or research. He treats others in reaction to what helps him moreso than out of kindness.
Extra: when prompted wether he likes Adami, Silvair responds with 'not understand like', this could point to the idea that Silvair doesn't feel or at least understand the feeling of liking/loving something/someone. His lack of empathy or compassion regarding brutalizing Chopped and Adami seems to reinforce this idea, as he's confused as to why Adami is angry at him breaking her body. Simmilar in how some humans cannot or struggle to feel empathy or love and will see relationships moreso as transactions, though that can be typically learned and worked on.
Extra: The cut hand seems to be another entity that Silvair brutalized, while it's first met with Chopped, it does not leave Silvair's home and is the one to lead you there, it also is not Chopped hand's since he notes it to be a different entity.
Extra: when questionned regarding his knowledge, Silvair responds that someone taught him. This could point to Silvair having been on at least good terms with a human wiht medical knowledge in the past. Or it could point to him being a human pre-game and having done medical studies in his past.
Chopped
Goal: to be in a safe environment (with safe people or in a safe place)
Abilities: none [he uh.. he can roll around if he tries real hard maybe?]
Chopped mainly works as one of Adami's friends, unlike other characters he stands out as needing to be protected instead of being a protector. His incredible vulnerability means he's often picked on in some way. He's usually shown with Silvair, though he also often seems to get lost on his own somehow.
Extra: Chopped enjoys being clean and put together, he seems to know the hairdresser on a basis simmilar to Silvair.
Extra: Chopped recovers not by eating human flesh but by sleeping (supported by his dialogue when leaving Silvair's apartment and how often he sleeps). Chopped dislikes being handled against his will, and his vulnerability at being essentially completely disabled makes him easy prey for other residents to pick on.
Extra: Chopped is implied to have been a human like Adami pre-main story. Silvair's treatment of us is reminescent of him and Chopped is amongst the most expressive and human-like of the cast.
Hood
Goal: to help Adami be safe
Abilities: strength [carries a heavy weapon], proficiency in executing ennemies, intelligence
Hood works as Adami's first proper introduction to the game and it's mechanics. He also works as some sort of passive protector to humans who enter the otherworld. Though he isn't interested in keeping them safe long term and would rather be on his own most of the time.
Extra: Hood allegedly has no head, but his body is.. squishy.. ish? He's seen handling weapons with a hand, so it's unclear what of his body exists and what does not.
Gap
Goal: to obtain various human body parts trough trade or request
Abilities: teleportation, manifesting trough any space so long as it is dark enough and is being observed [schrodinger's gap], free roam between worlds, intelligence, 4th wall breaking
Gap is the first real threat encountered by Adami. He also works as the main source of lore and progression of the main storyline. He also works to actively help Adami break free from Scarletella. Though this doesn't seem to be out of kindness but out of boredom, as if he has nothing better to do.
Extra: Gap says he has no reason for wanting body parts. Gap says he has no heart, or most things for that matter. He's only shown having hands/arms and a head/face.
Extra: though gap says he has no particular reason for wanting body parts, he only seems interested in human parts, and his specie presumedly eats flesh. Gap is never explicitly implied to eat the body parts he's given, though, and the idea that he lacks a heart could mean he lacks a digestive tract, like Chopped, and recovers energy in a different way, like him.
Extra: Gap is much more aggressive in chap 1/beta than he is in the rest of the game. This could be due to a light change in the writing of his character later down the line, as he's much more simplistic and actively hunts Adami trough gaps, while full release gap appears ever so often in holes Adami looks trough to poke fun, show off his collection or ask permission to take body parts.
Hugeface
Goal: to capture smaller living beings to use them as dolls/pets
Abilities: strength, size, ability to exist 'outside' the bounds of the otherworld [ in the void above/outside rooms]
Hugeface is a looming threat encountered troughout the otherworld. He treats any character smaller than him as some sort of pet, handling them clumsily and roughly like an infant would a new pet hamster. He also is implied to collect ones he finds cute as pets, placing them in little fake environments.
Extra: Hugeface is implied to exist in a space simmilar to what would be 'out of bounds' in a videogame, the space only seems to appear in rooms with missing walls, ceilings, or windows in some way. Such as the door in chap 1, the giant ravine in Machete's story, and in locations without ceilings.
Machete
Goal: to do whatever he wants with no one in his way
Abilities: strength, speed, fighting proficiency
Machete is an extremely aggressive entity, he will fight Adami unprovoked, though he seems much more interested in the actual fight than in killing or eating her. He thinks her and any who fail at defeating him as weaklings.
Extra: Machete's aggression might stem from him misinterpreting someone others do as someone trying to pick a fight. He's also overconfident in winning every fight, so he isn't afraid to fight, unlike Stitch who does not fight even when attacked directly.
Extra: Machete's skin and overall affliction could be similar to Adami's [red blotches on skin], this could also be dry and fresh blood stains though..
Telephone
Goal: to help Adami to avoid death
The telephone is an entity that will call any available phone to transfer information to Adami. This is usually advice on how to avoid upcoming monsters (scarletella, Hugeface) or navigate areas (maze), making it one of the few beings to actively be good, having no known of ulterior motive.
Extra: Telephone seems to be able to speak trough any sort of telephone, unclear where the line is drawn. (Would two cans and a string work??)
Stitch
Goal: to entertain himself
Abilities: intelligence (quick to learn how new things work, knowledgeable of a variety of things and locations including things from the real world, one of the few to recognize us as human)
Stitch acts as a mild antagonist due to his habit of forcefully showing Adami things he finds interesting or dragging her to places to amuse himself. When he has nothing to do, he mopes around depressingly until he comes across something new. He's upbeat and playful, not bad intentioned but he doesn't consider others much.
Extra: Even when threatened or attacked (Adami or Crawling), Stitch doesn't fight back.
Wheelchair
Goal: to heal from his injuries
Wheelchair is encountered twice, he's a rude, aggressive and demanding entity that will demand Adami fixes him. If Adami outright refuses to help him, he will kill her.
Extra: it's unclear what exactly he suffers from. He points to his eye being missing as well as his mouth being split. His skin appears to be corroding in some way, and he seems completely unable to use his legs to move. His affliction is not like Chopped or Adami's, and Silvair either has not met him or did not find him interesting or cooperative enough to care for him. It could be that his disease is unique in some way, or that it's incurable. It could also be that it's resulted from a fight, since his mouth was cut open, presumedly by someone else.
Masque
Goal: to entertain others
Abilities: teleportation [of himself and others/other objects]
Masque is a peaceful entity, he will appear and offer to show Adami a magic trick, either way leads to him leaving.
Extra: Masque is not aggressive even if you refuse to watch his magic tricks.
Human
Goal: to escape the otherworld
Human is a human met near the end of the game. He's scared of Adami, presumably because she's nearly fully a monster at that point, or because her own urban legend is circulating now. Or maybe it's the blood and crowbar. Either way he doesn't fully trust her, and he's nervous of her. He's killed off screen shortly after meeting Adami.
Extra: in the original Jpn version of the game, he's an english speaker, in the eng ver this is reversed to him speaking jpn while adami speaks english.
Extra: the only way of falling to the otherworld that we are shown is the elevator, or falling into it [backrooms style]. Ot could be that the Human fell out from another, english speaking country, or it could be that he was a foreigner in Japan when he fell.
Extra: Human speaks some otherworld, pointing to the idea that he was taught by some benevolent characters like Silvair or Hood pre-meeting Adami.
Adami Adashino
Goal: escape the other world/ break Scarletella's curse
Abilities: strenght, changing size (temporary), regeneration
Adami is a human japanese woman, while she appears as a more shy and ditsy amnesiac girl, it's revealed she's a murderer who had been dumping bodies at the ghost appartments, attracting Scarletella's attention
Extra: one of the symbols in Adami's name is the same used for 'monster', foreshadowing.
Extra: in Blissful love life end, Adami is shown to live alone, presumably without parents or family. She also does not mention missing her family or worrying about her friends and family looking for her. So it's unlikely she has any.
Extra: Adami Adashino is the 'default'/'canon' mc name, as it is the name already in the field you need to fill out when you remember your name.
Extra: Adami goes trough various appearance changes trough out the story:
She starts in a japanese sailor school uniform (hinting to the fact she was most likely a high school student) and had longer hair
This is changed to a white dress (given by bride),
Then her iconic white raincoat (given by bride).
Her hair is cut shorter and it turns white/grey by the end of the story. (Cut by gap, turns white from exposure to the other world)
Her face gets covered in bandages by nurse, her eyes presumably turn red at some point that is never specifically mentionned
Tumblr media
General stuff
Extra: lots of characters are seen using their left hands (Silvair is often drawing holding his syringe+weapon in his left hand, but occasionally his right) (Crawling points to things with his left hand) (Scarlet holds his umbrella in his left hand) (Hood holds his weapon in his left hand as well as his right). This could be a continuity error in how they are drawn, or it could be that they're ambidextrous (it's more common for lefties to become ambidextrous). This is not the case for Gap though who is mostly shown using his right hand.
Extra: some characters are not able to recognize Adami as human (Chopped, wheelchair) , while others immediately do (Hood, Silvair, Stitch)
Extra: Yatsunagi said the otherworld language comes from birth to monsters (not humans turned to monster)
If you have any corrections or thoughts feel free to comment them so i can fix anything accordingly, reblogs are harder to answer to

Thwomps seem to reproduce sexually, as they display sexual dimorphism (there is exactly one explicitly female Thwomp in the entire franchise), and Thwimps are referred to as their children. Which implies they grow as they mature??
They also have the concept of marriage.
I like to think that the Thwomps from the Mario games are quarried out of an open pit mine, and there's a bunch of Koopa slaves forced to carve them and carry them to the castle, Prince-of-Egypt style

I would love to hear more about the "Towers of the Archipelago" project, it reminds me of the Heroica games
Sure! And yeah, I can definitely see the resemblance, with this sorta "overworld" style map at least ^.^
Tumblr media
I did have a more detailed version of the lighthouse island and the adjoining one, from last week, but I kinda got bogged down in details and cheating geometry to facilitate that, thus the switch to an even more reduced scale for the time being.
Towers Of The Archipelago is definitely still in the early sorta "vibes-based" stage of the idea, but it's also a coalescence of a handful of different fragmented ideas that have been floating around my head for the past several years, so there isn't a whole lot to talk about just yet, but I can still give a rundown of what there is so far.
It's pretty strongly inspired by Moon Rhapsody, a gorgeous but unfinished zeldalike game I found on itch.io a year and a half ago, (albeit without the nsfw stuff that one has,) though somehow the recent release of the first chapter of ENA: Dream BBQ had a hand in making my angle finally coalesce lol.
Tumblr media
Probably mainly just because of this specific area in it, plus making me want it to be a first-person-adventure game for the vibes.
---
Anyway, yeah, so as the big map and the name imply, picturing a big archipelago connected by bridges, where most of the islands have small villages on them; but every village has to have a big tower of some sort (lighthouse, radio tower, weather reading station, pagoda temple, factory smokestack, harbor crane, etc.) that kinda defines that town's role, in the big trade ecosystem they all have going on between them.
Lots of youkai and monsters and stuff just casually living alongside humans, (can swap between cute humanoid and full cryptid forms at will, picturing a kasa-obake being a major character) tech level is like, kinda random but leans more toward oldtimey industrial revolution level but with some like, 60s/70s computation stuff in the bigger towns?
And there's a spooky island further off from the rest that only appears at night; its village is completely empty, and its tower is a Numbers Station.
Also something something about the moon and sun being alive and watching people? Like big Luna and Celestia vibes, but more as deities than as rulers, though still don't know exactly what I wanna do with that. They'd be tied to an observatory tower and a heliography tower, respectively, though; in the big map here, the heliography tower is the one just a couple islands away from the southwest lighthouse, while I'm imagining the observatory being more toward the northwestern part of the archipelago, atop a more mountainous island.
Tumblr media
In the more detailed map of the lighthouse and crossroads island, I included a wrench piece looping around a diagonal stretch of bridge, just to cover a gap between the pieces, but that led to the idea of like, there being these big ancient magic gates around the bridges, normally open by default, but which automatically close up as a defensive measure.
In general, the concept for the setting (islands all with their own towers) has been bugging me for A While, but I didn't have anything to do with it yet.
---
But thankfully I do finally have something of an actual premise now, even if it's still pretty basic. A big storm with a tinge of something supernatural rolls in, making the normally-placid sea routes unsafe from turbulent waters, but also triggering all of the bridge gates across the entire archipelago to close at once; cutting off the islands from one-another completely.
The protagonist is a girl from the small southwest lighthouse village, and somehow she has a way to make the gates reopen even before their lockdown ends, so she either gets sent, or decides on her own, to go head out and try to get to the bottom of what's going on, and reconnect all the towns as she goes.
The real trouble with this is that I don't know what "the bottom of what's going on" entails either; I just figure in classic quest tradition it's something way over her head that she has to work her way up to meeting head-on.
Though it's probably something unrelated to the spooky disappearing Numbers Station island I mentioned earlier; that I see being just another feature of the islands, eerie and inexplicable as it may be; whereas whatever the storm brought is an outside factor.
Also given what I mentioned about youkai earlier, kinda wondering if it would be interesting to make the protagonist herself one, though I haven't settled on anything for sure yet.
---
Just kinda picturing an animated cover or titlecard thingy, with the main character in the center, mostly in shadows but holding a storm lantern that's illuminating her face and part of her body. Then the silhouette of the lighthouse behind her in all black, except for the windows at the top; and then more distant silhouettes of some of the islands and the other various towers kinda spread out on either side of it, also all in black except for the blinking red air traffic lights on top of those. Very razor-thin crescent moon up in the sky, surrounded by clouds in the shape of an eye.
Comfortably spooky, I think that's the phrase for the vibe I'm going for.
So yeah, it's a thing. :)

Slay the Princess Vessels in Japanese Pt 1
Part 2(Chapter IIIs)>> Part 3(Narrator, Princess, Voices)>> Part 4(TLQ, TSM, Echo)>>
LONG TEXT POST INCOMING though I guess that's normal for tumblr
Anyway I wanna geek and talk about the Japanese translations for the Chapter/Vessel names in Slay the Princess(could also do one for the voices but thats another post probably)
format will be: OG name JP Name(Romanization) [ENG Translation of JP Name](Japanese has no articles so just assume presence of "the" when you feel necessary)
OK LETS START(StP spoilers obvi)
Chapter I The Hero and the Princess 第一幕。勇者とプリンセス。(Daiichimaku. Yuusha to Purinsesu.) [Act 1. Hero and Princess]
Pretty direct translation, not much to say here(voice of the hero is also referred to as 勇者の声(Yuusha no Koe) but that's for the voices post)
Now, most of the chapters after chapter 1 have the word 乙女(otome) to refer to the Princess. The word means young woman, or maiden. This translation will use "Maiden"
Going in the order of the game's "Memories" Menu, left to right, starting with the ten Chapter 2s
Chapter II The Adversary 第二幕。戦士。(Dainimaku. Senshi.) [Act 2. Warrior.]
Only 7 out of 22 of the vessels don't have 乙女 in their names. 戦士(senshi) means soldier or warrior, referring to someone who fights on the battlefield(not necessarily belonging to an army, in contrast to 兵士heishi also meaning soldier). Pretty straightforward, I guess you could say the JP name is more focused on the fact that she fights rather than her being a rival.
Chapter II The Tower 第二幕。塔の乙女。(Dainimaku. Tou no Otome.) [Act 2. Tower Maiden.]
This can be read as "Maiden of the Tower", but as we know the "tower" part actually refers to the Princess herself(I think). Basically the same as ENG, not much to say. (Any vessels with の乙女(no Otome) can also be read as [Maiden of ___] instead of [___ Maiden])
Chapter II The Spectre 第二幕。亡霊の乙女。(Dainimaku. Bourei no Otome.) [Act 2. Ghost Maiden.]
亡霊(Bourei) means ghost, a dead person's spirit. Another one that's pretty direct. Though, the dialogue in this chapter uses the term somewhat interchangeably with 幽霊(yuurei), meaning spirits in general, and おばけ(obake) a very broad term for spirit/monster(they're a class of youkai).
Chapter II The Nightmare 第二幕。ナイトメア。(Dainimaku. Naitomea.) [Act 2. Nightmare.]
This one is just the straight up english word. Not much commentary besides the fact that i'm not entirely sure why some of them don't have "maiden" in their names.
Chapter II The Razor 第二幕。刃の乙女。(Dainimaku. Yaiba no Otome.) [Act 2. Blade Maiden.]
The JP name is a lot more obvious than "The Razor" but you kinda get the idea with both(sharp stabby stabby woman).
Imma do the Razor III & IV chapters here too cuz they are all considered part of The Razor vessel
Chapter III The Arms Race 第三幕。腕比べ。(Daisanmaku. Udekurabe.) [Act 3. Contest.]
腕比べ(Udekurabe) is contest(usually of strength/skill) and i find it funny cuz this one also has the word arm in it(腕Ude)
Chapter IV Mutually Assured Destruction 第四幕。恐怖の均衡。(Daiyonmaku. Kyoufu no Kinkou.) [Act 4. Terror Equilibrium.]
Or "Balance of Terror" but I like "Terror Equilibrium" more. I think like with the ENG name this refers to how, by the end of the chapter, both the Princess and TLQ are equals in their fight.
Haven't seen any JP streamers not take the blade in The Razor Ch 2 so I don't have the names for "No Way Out" and "The Empty Cup" ;-; I don't have the game myself so if anyone could show me any screenshots or smth of the JP title cards for these chapters i'd appreciate thank you
Chapter II The Beast 第二幕。ビースト。(Dainimaku. Biisuto.) [Act 2. Beast.]
Like the Nightmare, straight up English word
Chapter II The Witch 第二幕。卑劣な乙女。(Dainimaku. Hiretsu na Otome.) [Act 2. Foul Maiden.]
One of only 2 Princesses where an adjective is used instead of a noun. 卑劣(hiretsu) means lowly, mean, base, despicable, etc. This is basically the Witch's attitude(can be seen very clearly in our interaction with her and the fight to the death). This chapter is one of the only ones where the title differs quite a bit from the ENG name, though I also think that's what the English name is supposed to imply, rather than her being magical in some way(though she can call the roots of the wild apparently).
Chapter II The Stranger 第二幕。冷淡な乙女。(Dainimaku. Reitan na Otome.) [Act 2. Cold Maiden.]
Cold as in indifferent or apathetic. The 2nd and final adjective Princess. I'm actually unsure about why this one is named this way, as the Stranger is actually everything at once.
Chapter II The Prisoner 第二幕。囚人。(Dainimaku. Shuujin.) [Act 2. Prisoner.]
Direct translation. Another one where I'm not sure why she doesn't have "maiden" in her name, especially since both her Chapter 3s do
Chapter II The Damsel 第二幕。乙女。(Dainimaku. Otome.) [Act 2. Maiden.]
This one is interesting to me. Like most of the other names, this one has the word "maiden" in it. But here it's just "Maiden". Guess it makes sense though. This chapter we see her as just a damsel, just a maiden locked up in a cabin basement. Anywayyyyy Chapter 3s will be their own post as well as the voices Hope this was interesting for y'all, I wonder what the translations are for the other available languages.
Part 2(Chapter IIIs)>> Part 3(Narrator, Princess, Voices)>> Part 4(TLQ, TSM, Echo)>>

Friday Night Fightin - BF Reference Sheet!
Tumblr media
Been going back and forth of adding this silly guy into the rgbfverse and just decided "fuck it". I throw you Mikey, the angel singer combatant.
Friday Night Fightin GF Ref Sheet
Friday Night Fightin Pico Ref Sheet
Name: Mikey Angel
Nickname: Mic, Chichi (like, chihuahua)
Birthday: 2nd April (so close)
Age: 25 (the midget's 25???)
Orientation: Panromantic asexual
Species: Angel creature thing
Height: 5'0 ft (SHORT AHH me who's 4'11)
Weight: 80 lbs (due to having anorexia) (body envy is scary)
Voice: Just normal BF chromatics but with statics here and there from vocal straining. Screams similar to Whitty.
Relationship Status: Dating
Family: Garrett Angel (father), Medana Anděl (mother, they have a picture frame of her with a small vase of flowers and had passed away early in his years)
Partner(s): Stacie Daemon (fightin!GF), Derrick Dino (fightin!Pico) (Stacie's boyfriend)
Friends: Neena Arachnes (fightin!Nene), Darnell Phoenix (fightin!Darnell), Skid Skelly and Pump Pumpkin (fightin!SkidandPump)
Acquaintances: John Dino (fightin!Tankman), Marco Daemon (fightin!DaddyDearest), Janice Daemon (fightin!MommyMearest)
Enemies/Rivals: Derrick Dino (they clash in playfighting a lot), Ayumu Obake (fightin!Senpai)
Personality: A hyperactive individual, even when alone. Constantly on his feet, he will never go a day without singing his lungs out or initiating a battle (purposeful and accidental), whether that's with his fists, rap skills or a silly game of rock paper scissors. If you beat him in Rock, Paper, Scissors he will instantly see ya as a homie. Although he's positive in almost every situation, he's also heavily blunt with his words and says shit in front of his challenger's face to taunt them. He thinks and knows he's the shit when fighting someone, so he tends to come out very prideful or standoff-ish whenever he wins. Despite this, he takes his losses with high spirits, cheering for his challenger and hypes the both of them for a future battle. Despite dating GF and Pico in extension to her, he never cared much nor did he understand the concepts of romance, however he does deeply care for the two of them like he does with his parents, and thinks of the two as family and will show just as much affection. Oh, and people compared him to a chihuahua a lot. Despite his hyperactiveness, he cares a lot about boundaries and would usually talk a few feet away from someone (knowing how loud he is himself, people can hear him just fine). He can be mature when he needs to, but is extremely difficult to stay that way without immense fidgeting on his arm bands, halo and tail. He cannot sit still for his life.
Personality flaw: He rarely thinks before he acts, but whenever he does it's usually when a person he cares was in distress or from seeing his reflection. He's extremely stubborn to not acknowledge his eating disorder and body envy towards the people around him. He would comment of how ugly his figure is without thinking at times, which makes his friends and loved ones worry about him by accident. His hyperactive body also detriments him, being extremely fidgety and no matter how much energy he used up through the day he would still be too restless to sleep and ends up sleep deprived the next day, which is why it is one of the main reasons he thinks that food was a problem, despite having nothing but water half the time. He has been trying to calm his hyperactivity down by participating in slow hobbies but no luck so far.
Likes: Rock and punk music, singing, battles, rock paper scissors, winning, his family, his homies, playing guitar, side hugs, high energy activities, running in the rain, words of affirmation.
Dislikes: Food, flavoured drinks (he would vomit due to tasting like fruit), coffee (used to be a coffee addict when he was younger, now despises it with every fiber of his being), being reminded of his body and weight, mirrors.
Powers: Mic whip and stand melee (basic combo attacks), Mic stand sweep and dash (heavy combo attacks), Wing jump (uses his wings to jump high and fly in the air), Arrow soundwaves (screams into his mic tail to create a piercing soundwave at a certain direction), Mic ground pound (bashes his mic to the ground to create a shockwave around him when dashing down), Telekinesis (only uses it on his mic stand and other small items), Guitar manifest (His mic stand shapeshifts into an electric guitar and shreds the arena stage with a sick tune, knocking back enemies and does small continuous damage), Teleportation (Uses his halo to open a portal, he cannot jump through AUs with it).
Backstory:
Ares, the world where myths, folklore and tales overpopulate the planet. Harpies and dragons soaring through the air, giants roam the mountains as people of the deep sea rule the waters. Human was never a concept in this universe, and yet they're often quite emotional for such mystical beings. Their beliefs in plain sight through their entire existence.
Mikey and his family were no different. Throughout his younger years he was very much known to be a shy kid. His father didn't bother to take note of that, too busy protecting him from any type of harm after his late mother passed away. Of course, since he was an angel, his thoughts had reasoned him that he was the reason she passed. She had given her life to him, and he must repent in unconditional love to his family. It wasn't out of pessimism, it was only a matter of fact. Through this, he would idolise his father, wanting to follow his examples and become a great guardian angel just like him.
7 years old
As he walked to his school and past the university, he couldn't help but indulge in the sin of envy as he watched the older students walking along the pavement and from the crossroads. They were all adorned in handsome or gorgeous clothing, accessories, makeup, whatever fashion style you can think of, and above all else were their body physiques. He can't help but envy them. Heavens, even looking through his own family photos he was envious of how well dressed they were.
Unconsciously, he hugged himself by the sides, standing next to the stop sign as traffic continued in front of him. All he was wearing was a plain polo shirt with shorts and clean blue hair. He shouldn't be thinking something so sinful like this but here he is, jealous of the people around him. He…he needs to do something about this. He remembers his dad always drinking coffee whenever he worked in his office room, it seemed to be what had helped him to get through the day, maybe it would help him as well…
13 years old
He had been drinking the beverage almost daily, for all 3 meals. The caffeine had helped him exponentially, it had made him more energetic, more outgoing, more social. It made him curious of multiple hobbies he had never considered trying. He had made many friends with his classmates and people outside of school, he even made his dad pay attention to him and smile for longer than 1 second.
He had been riding this high for so long he never noticed the side effects at first, his mind obsessed in the world of dueling, a well known and beloved sport amongst various creatures. He would take any opportunity to participate in one, every match being different than the last. He felt accepted in a way, he wouldn't trade this feeling for the world.
15 years old
He felt awful.
Everywhere on his body felt awful, it felt like he had puked everything and his stomach out of him. He had tears fall uncontrollably from his eyes, had he hurt someone? Of course he did, why would someone hate him if he hadn't hurt them. He didn't even know who he had hurt. But right now he felt too weak in the little bathroom he'll be occupying for the rest of the night, he felt his growing tail curling behind him.
This was his punishment, wasn't it. He had engulfed himself in the sins of gluttony, envy and pride, and now he's paying for them immensely. His father looked so ashamed of raising such a child, he should've let nature take its course, he should've just gone with the flow like the other angels. If he did, he wouldn't be in such a state right now.
He needed to go for a run, he can't…bear staying still like this. But he deserved it. He knew this.
19 years old
A duel ring tournament had started again this New Year. His halo hummed as it reflects the summer rays, his tail swaying behind him with an overwhelming excitement to each swing. Right! New year, new him! He fiddles with the spiked bracelets on his wrists as he waits in line to enter the tournament.
"Mikey?"
A familiar voice had perked his ears up as his entire body practically spun towards the direction he heard it from.
"St-Stacie?"
The New Year tournament was being held at his college sports field, and only the students attending it can participate.
"Oh my gosh, Mic! It really is you!"
"W-Wait a minute-!"
She would pace herself into a girly jog, with Mikey unable to react fast enough he was quickly swept off his feet into a tight bear hug, causing a scene in the line. If Stacie's here doesn't that mean-.
"Oi we're in public, Stace. We are not getting fucking kicked out the moment we got here, for fuck's sake."
As expected, Derrick was right behind her as he picked up the both of them from the 1v1 participation line. Once they were in an unoccupied spot, the dino finally sets his partner and old friend down.
"Oh come on dearie, aren't you also excited to see him?"
To prove her point, she softly pinched the bewildered angel's cheeks pulled them gently, accentuating his adorableness.
"H-Hey! Cut it out man, it hurts!"
He patted the pinching hands away from his face but couldn't hold in the giggle from his initial shock. Honestly, he didn't expect his two old friends to be his seniors, but at the same time relieved to see them again after 4…5 years? But the most unexpected was they were now chatting with each other as if his sudden absence had never happened, talking about each other's subspecies and online gossip (mostly from Stacie) on social media. Of course, their light hearted reunion had to end soon.
"I'm probably not the best person to be sayin' this and all, but ya look…ugh, fuck it, ya look like you'll snap in half in a second. Is…everythin' alright back home, Mic?"
Ouch, that…slightly stung, Mikey had to admit. Sure he was blunt himself, but Dee takes the whole cigarette and drags it like it's honey to his lungs. However, it was obvious that the reptilian meant well. He can't blame him for mentioning the obvious.
"Derrick, that was rude!"
"I'm sorry sweets but I had to say it out."
"At least frame it nicely.."
"H-Hey guys! It's fine, really!"
His two close friends looked back at him with both concern and wariness. Mikey never really talked much about his family to them, only hearing the obvious admiration he has to his father. Despite the many good things he had spouted about his old man, they didn't exactly bought it, even if they were genuine. Almost out of habit, he rubbed the back of his neck, fiddling with his choker nervously.
"Uhm, so you guys are also taking part in the tournament?"
He was deflecting them, making the two all the more worried of their close friend and crush. As much as they want to push on the sensitive matter, today is supposed to be a joyful occasion for the New Year. With reluctant looks between the dating couple, they decided to go along instead, lest they'd lose him again like before.
"Oh, yea. We were just about to head over to the 3v3 line and planned to find our last teammate after booking!"
"Wait, don't they usually asked for names first before booking?"
"Well, yes..! Oh! Buuut if you join us then we'll have a full team again to take part! Don't you agree, Dee?"
It was surprisingly good luck in disguise when they received that sudden text from their missing teammate being unable to join. She lightly fluttered her lashes at her partner in a mocking plea, to which she was given with an eye roll and a small smile (ignore the slight blush to his cheeks).
"Yea, yea I do. You'd bring em along anyway without me needing to say shit really."
"Hehe, oh you know me too well hun!"
"Uh, hellooo?! Don't I get a say in this?"
Out of exaggeration, Mikey pointed at himself with an offended look of being ignored by the couple. Stacie couldn't help but giggle and grabbed his hand gently, their fingers intertwining perfectly together. With a bright smile on her face, you'd almost forget she's a demon.
"Nope!"
Almost.
Although he wouldn't admit it right now, it was nice to see these two again, glad even. Hopefully he doesn't mess up their friendship again like before. He'll need to try at least.
Additional notes:
You can add different piercings and face accessories on him if ya like.
His other eye is there, it's just under his halo.
The scars are optional since they're only battle scars
His wire tail can extend pretty far hehe
I actually don't listen to heavy metal WHEEZE

alright babes here’s the wip
tumblr better not kill the image quality on this thing working on it gave me scoliosis fr
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
so, what’s baymax worried about?
not revealing, *however*, in the movie, when they’re in fred’s mansion, baymax reveals his findings after scanning callaghan
on his screen, if you look *very* close, it lists three medical diagnoses
1) high risk of cardiovascular disease
2) acute stress disorder
3) high emotional instability
cant believe disney gave us that vital, albeit, angsty information yet never used it.
again, not spoiling the comic, but do with this information what you will.
ALSO, we truthfully have no idea why SFIT combusted, we know that Hiro thinks it’s callaghan, but I highly doubt he would endanger literally innocent students, most being his who he’s grown to adore as his own, if he had daggers for Alistair only.
I do think it was an attack on the student body, but I wonder which past student has a venom towards SFIT and its faculty and students? Obake perhaps?

The art style here looks so cool. I love how it looks like it was drawn with a brush and ink. Just with this sneak preview, we already know Zuma is super cool and possibly haunted by or using the powers of a kasa-obake (umbrella monster). Aaaaaa I can't wait to see my boy again!

[Yōkai AU] Fiend & Menace
Made by Cat, aka Researcher Serif/AW
Tumblr media
"I know I'm quite the catch but for you to look at me like that, you trying to tell me something, Master~? You don't need to look from so far, you're free see my true self as close and as often as you please~. Just know you aren't escaping me that easily~."
(The Kitsune no Mado, or "Fox Window", is a Japanese hand technique believed to reveal hidden Yōkai through your fingers as with above.
It's comparable to the Celtic hag-stone or adder stone, a stone found in riverbeds with a naturally formed hole which can reveal witches or faeries through it.)
─────────────────────
Sometimes, I really hate colors. I spent so long agonizing his color palette it ain't funny, I swear. At least I think I did better on colors this time. Not by much but decent enough... (lighting's hard)
Either wae, here's @cosmica-galaxy's Fiend and Menace! They're apart of my Yōkai AU, very much based/inspired on @twstedforyou's own original Yōkai Twisted Wonderland AU.
Below is some lore if you wanna know! I recommend reading up this post for further AU lore if you wish.
Do hope you enjoy either wae!
─────────────────────
For those who don't know what Yōkai are, "Yōkai are a class of supernatural entities and spirits in Japanese folklore."
They can range from your classic demon, in this case Oni, to objects gained spirit and sentience such as Kasa-Obake, a friendly and playful one eyed, one legged sentient umbrella.
So now that that's outta the way...
[Yōkai AU Lore]:
꧁ღ⊱ | Oni!Fiend |
Fiend is an Oni, a kind of yōkai, demon, orc, ogre, or troll in Japanese folklore. They're known to be big, terrifying and having great strength. They're also known for their violent and short temperaments with a hunger for humans and alcohol.
In this AU, since people are pretty much wiped out, skibidi's are the suitable replacement. While not as fun as human prey at times, there's something a bit more satisfying playing with them. (The answer is abundance and the fact no one cares about them. He can be as sadistic and cruel as long as he wants with his food, something he couldn't with humans to avoid getting caught with his pants down so to speak.)
Fiend is a young Oni, reflecting his canon self being a Gen 0 mimic born after the fall of humanity, but he's still quite older than a century at least.
Due to his experience and the fact that the Yōkai District is quite traditional, he's a bit different. A tad wiser and more eloquent in his words for one. Not that he chooses to be, preferring to be a bastard most times. He's still the tsundere little shit who gets turned on when you make the battlefield red with the blood of your enemies.
Due to his heritage, he's quite the alcoholic. Because of that, he's also quite a bit more aggressive with skibidis because there's just some types of alcohol exclusive to the human realm that isn't made or sold in his District.
In this AU, Yōkai can shift forms to disguise themselves as the most dominant species in the human realm via shapeshifting or illusions. For some more humanoid Yōkai like Yuuki-Onna, it shows in their true forms. The believability of a Yōkai's disguise vary between Yōkai and those with skills more inclined to disguise like Tanuki and Kitsune are better at it than most. Fiend has an unusual competence in the art for Oni, Yōkai known to be quite dog shit at their disguises, especially for one as young as him.
With his surprising competence in illusions and Menace being too young to create his own disguise, Fiend extends his own over Menace until he can learn for himself. It also means when his transformation goes, so does the tuggle's.
Before the War, Yōkai had the option of either human or mimic guises but considering mimics themselves mimicked humans, it was mostly human disguises. Now though, the option is either Alliance members or mimics who mimicked them. Fiend in particular chose the mimic option because it gave him more freedoms so to speak. Disguising himself as an Alliance member would've burden him with the role of acting like one which, as apart of a military operation, is a heavy one to play.
Fiend spent most of his time in the human realm. When the fall of humanity came, he was mostly wandering and hunting alone and only rarely going back into his District when bored. Despite the solitude of the empty cities, not even he knew why he stayed in the wasteland as a TV mimic as he did. At least, not until he met you.
In this AU, his meeting with you was much like his canon self. He decided you were interesting at first and pretty much stalked you. Though, he was much more… open, so to say, with his less than mortal nature. He didn't necessarily show off he was of an Other nature but he didn't necessarily bother with blending in too much. Humans are pretty much dead and gone and he only kept a thin veneer up for the Alliance to not get up all over his ass after all.
Let's just say it was quite a surprise when he confronted you for the first time and found out you were his beloved Master all along. (He did not let go for the next week, still closely shadowing you for the rest of the month after. Your presence— no, your existence is simply too much— too intoxicating— for him to simply ignore and leave be.)
Bonus! He'd never admit it but sometimes, he'd head over to his District and find baubles for you that he makes seem like they're old belongings he'd never touched and left to dust. He's always terribly smug when you like it and gloats it over the others with a smirk.
꧁ღ⊱ | Oni!Menace |
Menace is also an Oni, a very young one
He's pretty much canon Menace but more of a little shit with a nasty temper when really angry
Though, instead of the whole 'parents dying leaving bby orphaned', its more he was orphaned at birth
Unless a hybrid of sorts, Oni are traditionally born from the death of a horrible human's spirit which is why Oni, at their base nature, are cruel and violent. By using the dead spirit of a horrible human to bring them into existence, they're bound to take bits of the violent and cruel parts that make up said spirit. Luckily for Fiend and you, it's something that could be taught to be managed but anger is always something present that'll have to be managed for the rest of his life.
Despite being essentially a toddler, he still has the absurd strength Oni are known to have. He can easily carry you with no problem which is a bit troubling considering he likes get mischievous. Often with Byte at that...
He's also a a bit of a nipper considering human flesh is apart of the natural diet of Oni. He knows better than to harm, Spirits forbid consider you prey and eat you. Adopted Papa Fiend is hovering over his back with a critical eye after all.
Bonus! Menace, underestimating his own strength and your human constitution, had accidentally thrown you once. Luckily, it was at Fiend. Unluckily, it was at Fiend. Possessive shit extraordinaire. (Yōkai won't let any slight against their Master stand, kid or not. Someone boutta get their little ass cooked.)

Happy Halloween!! This year I bring a Monster High Crossover <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
don't forget your daily click here are my art permissions buy me a ko-fi commission me!!
More information on why they are the monster they are/ additional design choices:
Yoshiki: Luna Moth Monster
I chose this specific species of moth for Yoshiki because of two reasons: Hikaru's name contains the symbol光 (忌堂光) - "hikari" in romaji, meaning light - making the possible translation of HGSN "The Summer The Light Died", which i'm taking to interpret Yoshiki's 'light' in his life being snuffed out. Moths go towards the light - they orient themselves using light, much like Yoshiki's life orients around 'Hikaru'. The second reason is that Luna Moths have the spiritual symbolism of "New Beginnings", and Yoshiki and 'Hikaru's' relationship is a new beginning for the both of them, whether Yoshiki likes it or not. I also took some inspiration from the "death's head moth" - which often symbolise a strong connection to the spirit world... and also "death's head"... a skull, that I added in the design
'Hikaru': Kasa-Obake
An Obake is a thing that changes. A shapeshifting creature, but can also mean a ghost of a deceased human being. The symbolism here is obvious lol.

Sgt. Frog Censorship & Differences Volumes 1 & 2
We begin our adventure here! But why 2 volume? Simply, Volume 1 had very alterations (NO CENSORSHIP), all done in the first TokyoPop Release. Real "Authentc" TP
Let's Begin!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For standard printing differences
TokyoPop originally used HOLOGRAPHIC COVERS (and special hardcover versions for libraries). This would change later
Color pages are black and white in almost TokyoPop releases. Forums claim English color versions exist and scans online have them but I've never seen it in real life
Now a weird one. TokyoPop changed a reference to Obake no Q-Taro (an early manga by Doraemon creator Fujiko Fujio. Official English name "Q the Spook" as of a rare 1971 English version only availible in Japan) to 80's cartoon "The Real Ghostbusters.
Luckily, Volume 1 got a fan translation before TokyoPop got the license so I can compare IN ENGLISH
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the Japanese text around Keroro still has the stylized Q. Whoops
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This fan translation also includes the full color pages and is more readily availible online than the TokyoPop version if your region doesn't have the ViZ website
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I always loved early color manga
ONTO VOLUME 2!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here we already have 3 VERSIONS!!!
The original uncut Japanese release
The Early English TokyoPop releases with some censorship, and
The far more censored ViZ Reprints (which according to forums, were done by TokyoPop's reprints as early as 2005. Mainly on SOME non-holographic paperback copies. Late releases anyway)
FIRST EDIT!!!
Immediately in Chapter 11 (Page 14), TokyoPop initally let Natsumi's chest uncensored. However by the later publication by ViZ, it's drawn over
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The next edit is even earlier in the 4th page of Chapter 12!
TokyoPop covered up Angol Moa's panties in all versions so I'll be using the high quality digital ViZ scan. This won't be the last time they do this but I'm gonna remind you that as of Volumes 1-3. NATSUMI's underwear is never altered. Smooth moves, TokyoPop...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
CHAPTER 16! Another Late Stage Natsumi chest edit. This time only her nipples instead of her entire chest (i thought we only censored female nipples cause of boobs). One again, only from ViZ and super late TokyoPop
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That's the end of lewdness but as a bonus, one more thing is cut from ALL ENGLISH RELEASES
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Evidently, some sort of cross promotion for a manga TokyoPop doesn't own. I don't actually know what this is.
That's all for now!! Ciao

More BH6
Merry Christmas.
Have some art for the Live and Learn series, AKA that one time-travelling Obake AU (start reading on FFN and AO3).  Obake’s doing questionably. XD
So the other day I was listening to one of HALIDONMUSIC’s classical music collections while I was working, “Ode to Joy” comes on, and I end up leaning back and cranking it up—and right before the big musical moment drops, all I can think of is this scene from Die Hard.  And since I watched the Cinema Therapy episode for that, I ended up doing what the Hamada bros are doing. X’D
Also I get a kick out of the fact that the scene I shared from a rated R movie, that has swearing in the clip, got flagged as being for YouTube Kids.  Seriously???
So!  For the sequel we’re at 48 consecutive chapters, 494 pages, and 206+K words.  Still plugging along, we might be ready for it next year, hopefully—current goal is to get to 500 pages before the month’s out.
Find it on eclipse here, as always please be kind and reblog, not repost, thank you! :D

Indie/RPG Maker Video Game Recs!
I mainly made this for a member of a discord I'm part of, but ye! My ramblings of some game recs!
Tumblr media
Harvester Games Anthology
1. Downfall 2. The Cat Lady 3. Lorelai 4. Burnhouse Lane
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first three games in this series are also known as "The Devil Came Through Here" trilogy with Burnhouse Lane being the odd one out, but I just call it the Anthology b/c they all take place in the same/a similar universe with crossovers and characters that appear through all the games here and there. They're mainly dark/twisted stories set in mundane environments told through 2D side-scrolling, adventure-style, point and click/arrow keys, and inventory-use gameplay. There's supernatural elements, blood, gore, and heavy elements and themes in all the games. My personal favorites of the series are The Cat Lady and Burnhouse Lane. Downfall had an original game in 2008, but I'd honestly go with its remake from 2016 as it fits in better with its newly-presented style and the way the story is presented.
You don't have to play them in any particular order to feel satisfied with their stories. The stories themselves are self-contained enough.
RPG Maker Games - Horror or Otherwise
A lot of these games are heavy on puzzle elements as well as minimal to light battle mechanics or trial and error gameplay. Story is what is the biggest element here, though.
OMORI
Tumblr media
I can't say too much about it for spoilers sake, but at its core this story is about coming to terms with trauma and guilt. It's quirky, imaginative, surprisingly poignant, amazing style and music, and overall thematic AF. It's a deep dive into some psychological stuff. Left a big mark on me and never looked back. It's not heavy with blood and gore, but it's heavy on its subject matter and can be with its disturbing/scary imagery at times. It's got a bunch of TWs, honestly.
ALSO! JUST TO NOTE: The Switch and PS4 editions have exclusive content NOT found in the PC release! It's nothing substantial or anything that changes the story, it's moreso just a little more 'funsies' for the fans and is really only exclusive to one of the two big branches/decision taken in the game. I can say that the console versions run great and since the controls are simple, it's easy to use with a controller/joycon.
Yume Nikki & Yume 2kki
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is one of OMORI's biggest inspirations and is often referenced as one of the first RPG maker "horror" games. While it's minimalistic and older in its presentation and style, it's surrealistic and sometimes disturbing nature keeps most players coming back for more. Lots of room for personal interpretation. The fan-made sequel is usually mentioned in the same breath, so I put that here, too, but 2kki is a much larger, longer, and more spread out game. Playing Nikki is good enough if you don't want too much of the same thing with more of a slog imo.
In the games you play as self-isolating girls who explore their dreams when they sleep. They've got blood and gore in some parts, but mostly disturbing imagery and implications behind said imagery. And then suicidal ideation/action.
The Forest of Drizzling Rain
Tumblr media
"After the sudden death of her parents, a young woman named Shiori Kanzaki finds a picture of a man that she believes to be her grandfather Keiichiro. She travels to Azakawa Village, where he was apparently from, in hopes of meeting him and reconnecting with her estranged family. However, when she arrives, she learns that her grandfather has already passed on, and the family manor converted to a museum. Koutaro Suga, the manager of the museum who only communicates in written memos, begrudgingly allows her to stay there for a while and research her family. But there is a legend in the village of the Kotori Obake--the "Taking Spirit", a demon woman who abducts children who go into the nearby forest. When a young girl Shiori befriends goes missing, Shiori is forced to venture into the forest and confront the demon to save her. How is the tale of the village connected to Shiori's past, and why does she hear voices calling her, commanding her to "Come fulfill the promise"?" --From different summaries on different sites I weaved together.
I really liked this one for the characters and setting. It reminded me of the manga/anime Higurashi (When They Cry). It was remade in recent years with all new content and new endings and such, so make sure to nab that version if you give it a try! It's not inherently a horror game--more a horror/mystery combo, but there is a bit of blood and scary imagery in this one to watch out for, iirc.
Ib
Tumblr media
"This follows the experiences of a nine-year-old girl named Ib who visits an art gallery with her parents. While looking around, she finds herself stuck in a strange, surreal world where art has come to life. What's worse, Ib's life is now linked to that of a red rose she picks up, and if all the petals fall she will die." --TV Tropes game summary.
Surreal and creepy AF at times, especially when playing as a child in an adults' world. And it's existential and somber at times. There are a couple other characters Ib runs into that help, but this is the core of the story. Make sure to grab the remake/remaster of this one as well if you're looking to play! Blood and scary imagery are the tws for this one. Overall, it tries to have a positive message.
The Witch's House
Tumblr media
"A young girl named Viola has gone to visit her friend, Ellen, who lives in the woods. However, those same woods are said to be haunted by a "Wicked Witch" who kidnaps children. When Viola finds her way blocked by magical roses, it seems that her only option is to enter the eponymous witch's house and find a way to break the spell, in hopes of reuniting with Ellen. Accompanied by a snarky talking black cat, Viola must navigate the dangers of the house and its murderous inhabitants." --TV Tropes game summary.
Another that got a remaster/remake with MV added to the title--what that means, I honestly don't know lol. But it's another RPG horror game with blood, gore, gruesome imagery, puzzles, and trial and error gameplay that can sometimes make you want to rip your hair out. But the story is good, if heartbreakingly bittersweet.
Mad Father
Tumblr media
"A young German girl named Aya Drevis is living at home with her titular Mad Father, Doctor Alfred Drevis, and his assistant Maria. One night, Aya hears her father scream and finds her house riddled with corpses and other supernatural things trying to kill her, and her seemingly dead mother Monika Drevis having kidnapped Alfred. Not wanting to leave without her father, Aya decides to brave the house and look for him, all while encountering the horrors of what her father has really done." --TV Tropes game summary.
This one can be pretty messed up with its gruesome images and overall harrowing journey of the MC. And while happy in some bits, it left a bittersweet taste in my mouth b/c of the trial and error of some of the gameplay. The remake helps with this, but it isn't perfect. Overall, I'd say give it a try if you do like RPG horror games, though. It can be pretty gratuitous in its imagery, however, just a forewarning.
Misao
Tumblr media
"Misao was just an ordinary highschool student, who didn't particularly stand out at all... until three months ago, when she stopped coming to class. Though nobody knew what happened to her, rumors started spreading that she'd already passed away. As they joke about the idea of her haunting the school and cursing her classmates, a sudden earthquake takes out the lights. A voice pleads for help. Separated from the others, your character sets out to discover the truth behind Misao's disappearance, and the curse that's now seemingly befell the school." --TV Tropes game summary (edited a little by me).
This game's characters makes you want to root for Misao tbh lol. It's definitely a test in the belief of humanity and how bullying/ostracizing someone can really come back to haunt you if you're not careful. Blood, gore, gruesome and sometimes gratuitous imagery, and more trial and error messiness at times, but overall a campy good time. The camp and absolute bat-shitness of this is what kept me playing XD
The Crooked Man
Tumblr media
"David Hoover has just finished moving into a new apartment during a rough part of his life, but some incredibly odd happenings within the unit leave him shaken. When he tries asking about the former tenant, there's little information on the man in question. Curiosity piqued, David sets out to find him. Along the way, he runs into a terrifying humanoid monster known only as the Crooked Man, who is intent on killing David for unknown reasons." --TV Tropes game summary.
This is another less subtle character study of a game. It's older and definitely has its issues with trial and error portions, but it's got heart. I can't fault it for that. Some blood and disturbing imagery for tws.
Hylics 1 & 2
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Hylics is a video game created by Mason Lindroth in 2015, described as "a recreational program with light JRPG elements.
Its world, from the environments to the battle sprites, is made entirely from pastel claymation. You play mainly as Wayne, a man with a waning moon for a head, on a vague quest to meet Gibby, the King of the Moon. The plot, if there can be said to be one, is heavily buried under symbolism and the general surrealism of the world." --TV tropes game summary
A really unique take on the RPG maker style. It's not a horror game, but I thought I'd share nevertheless. The artist does claymation and mixes their 3D style with the 2D style to make a unique adventure. The vernacular in the game, though, reminds me a lot of OFF and that sometimes it's a bit "extra" XD I've yet to finish them, but did enjoy what I played! I LOVE the style!
To The Moon
Tumblr media
"Join Dr. Rosalene and Dr. Watts as they enter a patient named Johnny's mind on his death bed to grant his final request. Watch, interact, and change the past as Johnny's life unfolds before you and takes you on a magical journey inside one's head that asks the greatest question of all: "What if…?" If you had the chance to relive your life, would you change things? Would you try to achieve some grand goal? Could you find love? Fame? Fortune? Or would you realize that sometimes the past is meant to stay the same. Join Dr. Rosalene and Watts on their journey and travel To The Moon." --From the Backloggd description.
Not a horror game, again. This...is a really melancholic game ngl. It's great, just bittersweet and leaves you in tears. Bring tissues. T^T
Other Games
Night in the Woods
Tumblr media
"Mae Borowski, a recent college dropout, returns to her hometown that is the sleepy mining town of Possum Springs. There, she struggles with the changes to her home and her former friends. As Mae struggles with finding her own identity and coping with the massive changes in her life, she begins to have odd dreams with ominous messages, and discovers hints of some mysterious force living out in the woods of her community." --TV Tropes game summary (edited a little by me).
A 2D adventure game with minor platforming elements and mini games. This is one of my favorites. It's an existential package all wrapped up in shattered hopes and dreams, with a sprinkle of cult stuff. :3
Sally Face
Tumblr media
"Sally Face is a 2D horror point-and-click adventure aame developed by Portable Moose following the titular character, a boy with a prosthetic face and a mysterious past.
The game is broken up into five episodes. In the first, Sally Face and his father move into a new apartment filled with odd tenants and an unfortunate crime scene. But starting from the second episode, things take a far stranger turn as Sal obtains a portable console that seems to detect supernatural activity." --TV tropes game summary.
This game didn't grab me at first b/c it released episodically (which...I hate with games tbh), but after picking it back up and playing through it in its entirety, it broke my heart in the best of ways. I like the art style reminiscent of how old MTV used to feel with Beavis and Butthead. The characters are actually great, and the story is both surreal and pulls you back down to ground you hard. Blood, some gore, supernatural elements, demonic stuff? What's not to love? XD
Crow Country
Tumblr media
"The game takes place in 1990, and centers around Special Agent Mara Forest as she investigates a missing person report for one Edward Crow. The report brings her to Crow Country, Crow's long-abandoned amusement park. Mara has to not only navigate the old, locked-up attractions to find her quarry, but also must tangle with unknown horrors as this investigation turns out to go even deeper that it appears…" --TV Tropes game summary.
I'm a sucker for the older Resident Evil and Silent Hill games as well as the blocky PS1 art style. This game hits the nail on the head with it feeling like a love letter to those days. It's a recent release, so might be a bit pricy, but I thought I'd drop the summary here anyway. It's a 3rd person shooter with blood, some gore, and disturbing imagery. Spooky!
Kindergarten 1-3
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"You play as a kindergartner. Throughout the day, do favors, avoid trouble, get special items, and repeat as you uncover the mystery under the kindergarten." --TV Tropes game summary.
That's...the best way one can describe these games. The games are so randomly batshit and off the wall I couldn't not share them, though. It's an adventure-type game with trial and error (but done well) and has "true" endings for each--all with canonical stuff following to the next for more insane madness. What can I say except... it's Kindergarten. There is a lot of crude humor, some language, blood, and distressing stuff happening to you and your teachers and classmates all the time.
Flower
Tumblr media
"The game takes place within the dreams of a lonely potted flower upon the windowsill of a rather dreary city apartment.
With the completion of each dream, more flowers appear upon the windowsill, and the apartment grows ever less run-down while the view out of the window grows ever more picturesque. Actual game-play consists, for the most part, of guiding a single, wind-borne petal of the presently dreaming flower, awakening other flowers and adding a petal from each to your own, until you find yourself guiding a great, winding current of blossoms and petals (along with the occasional leaf) through the game's vast and varied landscapes while the ambient music shifts and changes according to locations, movements, and events.
As the game's wordless story progresses, it takes on an increasingly subdued and eventually sinister tone, until the player finds themself witness to a triumphant charge to bring back life to a once beautiful landscape and city." --TV Tropes game summary.
This is a very peaceful and lovely game. A palette cleanser, if you will. The only hang up is that it uses motion controls, but it's not overwhelmingly difficult or unintuitive with them and still would recommend. :3
Journey
Tumblr media
"You play as a nameless robed figure who is crossing the desert to reach a mountain in the distance. As the game progresses, you pass through several unique environments and ruins, uncovering more of the game's story as you go.
Your character has only two real abilities. The first is singing, which radiates a sound wave proportional to how long you hold down the button — this is used to activate or attract various objects. The second is jumping, which allows you to go sailing through the air — this ability uses energy, which can be replenished by touching the floating bits of cloth you encounter throughout the game. The maximum amount of storable energy, indicated by the length of your character's trailing scarf, can be increased by collecting glowing symbols.
One of the game's main selling points is its unique form of multiplayer. During the game, you may encounter another player, whom you may travel with if you wish. However, unlike most multiplayer games, you can't see the other player's name or other information except for a unique icon that appears above their head when they sing, which is the only real way to communicate. There is no text or voice chat in the game, so you must rely entirely on your in-game abilities to work with your partner. However the game does list the handles of all the other players you encountered in the session during the credit, so you have a chance to send them a heartfelt “thank you” after the session." --TV Tropes game summary
It's a very unique and short experience. Another palette cleanser <3
GRIS
Tumblr media
"The title heroine is a young girl dealing with personal trauma, the exact nature of which is uncovered throughout the game, as you guide Gris through a surreal and initially bleak landscape of her devastated psyche." --TV Tropes game summary.
This game's art style and soundtrack are heartbreakingly beautiful, and it's a less "severe" journey through the MC's trauma without blood or gore. It's a lovely game, honestly, and I find myself going back to it a lot.

I feel like BH6 the Series could have REALLY handled Karmi better than they did.
They could’ve given her a MUCH more interesting backstory, if she was there the year before (which she would have HAD to be if being the youngest at SFIT was originally her thing) she could have had a very interesting relationship with Tadashi and Callaghan where Callaghan (the dean of students as well as a professor, much like Granville) was much more interested in Baymax than in her work. And it’s not even like Granville because she has the excuse that she’s paying more attention to Hiro because he’s 14 and at college, Callaghan was picking a 20 year old Tadashi over a 15 year old Karmi just bc he’s a robotics student.
And now that Granville’s here, she’s ALSO paying attention to the robotics (and other non-bio) majors over her. Which, as a viewer, is understandable bc Granville herself is more aligned with robotics and tech than biology, but that still doesn’t give her any right to just ignore the other literal child just because she’s a biotech major and she isn’t going to accidentally blow the whole lab up. Granville just dumped Hiro onto Karmi hoping they’d get along, thinking she was unaware of the blatant favoritism going on, hoping Hiro would just adopt her into the nerd gang and make things easier. Granville was completely aware of Karmi’s utter lack of friends and connection from both her peers and any authority figures, and still decided that she didn’t deserve a mentor as much as Hiro did. Which yeah, the bio department should have paid attention to Karmi, but can the fucking dean of students pay attention to more than one genius child at a time? The answer is yes, Granville is fully capable of mentoring more than one student to be functional and ethical people who won’t blow up labs, fight each other, make killer pathogens, or make energy amplifiers.
Meanwhile, Granville didn’t know that the catalyst behind that entire friend group coming together was Tadashi, but Karmi knows this fact very well. She doesn’t want to be with the dead golden boy’s friends and she doesn’t want to be with the new golden boy either. The nerd gang probably wouldn’t want to hang out with Karmi either because she was probably standoffish towards Tadashi too. Or at least, she didn’t acknowledge him if he tried to welcome her into his group. Honey Lemon is probably the only person she would willingly hang out with and talk to (I don’t think anyone can resist her good vibes), Granville should’ve sent her rather than Hiro. Sending Hiro was like rubbing it into her face that she’s not the youngest anymore when it was all she had going for her, even thought Granville didn’t mean that.
Like, they had something good going there with the initial rivalry. Karmi blaming Hiro for Granville favoring him because he’s almost exactly like her old protégé is absolutely understandable. Karmi didn’t know any of Granville’s backstory and probably just thought it was because he’s younger and a robotics major, not because of the whole ‘being very similar to Obake’ thing. But that shit should have been resolved in Season 1. More specifically, in S1 episode 19. She should have had an epiphany in S1 ep 17 that “yeah, Hiro’s not an asshole, Granville and Callaghan had a problem with favoritism of robotics students over everyone else and I should just be fucking mature about it and take it up with Granville instead of picking fights with a 14-year-old over something he has no part in.” They did NOT need to stretch that into S2.
Karmi didn’t deserve to be the series’ punching bag, and she doesn’t deserve to be the fandom’s punching bag either. She’s 16 and at SFIT, she’s just a kid herself, give her a damn break. Of course she’s not going to be emotionally mature about authority figures she deeply respects constantly picking other people over her just bc of their major. She’s 16, of course she’s going to have crushes and write shitty fanfiction, what else do teenagers do?
She’s not some irredeemable bitch, she’s 16 and got fucked over by everyone, the characters, the show, and the fandom.
Tumblr media
look at her. she deserved so much better.
