short asl thing based on @where-does-the-heart-lie's modern au :) i started this over a year ago but the beginning is all dialogue and felt more like a script to me i suppose??? which deflated my desire to work on it. anyway i checked it over recently and it's completely fine lmfao, self-confidence restored here we go !
-
"Yo. Aren't you usually in the middle of your shift by now?"
"I've been banned from the hospital."
"Like, for life?"
"No. For the next, uh.. Twenty-two hours."
"That's oddly specific."
"It was twenty-four, but I fell asleep after leaving the building."
"That wouldn't have to do with why they kicked you out, at all?"
"Hmmm. I'm too sleep-deprived, apparently."
"Ah. And, um, you called me because...?"
"I pressed a random number in my call log after waking up. Lucky you, I guess."
"Yeah. Right. Lucky me. And your car keys are...?"
"Confiscated."
"Ah, right, of course."
A beat of silence. Two. Three, then "Look, if you're busy, then–"
"No, no.  You called me, so I'll be there. Give me twenty minutes."
"Alright. Thank–"
"Thank someone else. Also, if you fall asleep in my car, I'm taking it as express permission to drive you around wherever I want."
"Ugh, go die. I don't even know why I bothered."
"LUCKY YOU, I guess," sounds off way too loudly in his ear. "No take backs. See you in ten."
"I thought you said–" Sabo breaks off as the call ends, leaving him staring blankly at his phone's too-dim screen. He squints, turns the brightness all the way up, and still squints as the sunlight proves too strong for the display.
Ace shows up in more than ten but decidedly less than twenty minutes. Sabo doesn't waste much brain power on it, only climbing into the passenger seat and yawning into his palm while his other hand fixes the seatbelt into the buckle. Not a second too soon, too, as Ace roars the engine to life and peels away from the curb at record speed.
Ace fiddles with the radio. He turns the music up, then dial it back down to inaudible. They hit the expressway and he leans over the steering wheel, frowning with his eyes fixed on the road far ahead. Sabo yawns again and this appears to be the limit to his patience.
"Hey, so, I had a thought after you hung up on me."
Sabo grimaces. "You mean you–"
"Today's Wednesday."
He doesn't elaborate. Sabo is too tired to process. "Yes," he follows, after a second. He glances at the sky out the front window. "What time is it?"
"Oh, uh." Ace fumbles with hand placement so he can lift his watch to his face. "Nine forty."
Sabo takes a couple beats to try and process this, moves his eyes away from the skyline, and sighs as he pulls his phone out. 2:47 is what the display reads, which sounds much more believable.
"How did the minute hand get off?" he mutters to himself, chancing a look at Ace's busted wristwatch. Ace raises a brow, taking his gaze off the road to scrutinize Sabo. "No, it doesn't matter," he mutters to himself once more, sliding his phone away back on his person and out of his hands.
"My point is," Ace continues, like he hasn't just been interrupted by a whole thing. "Your timeout will be done midday Thursday. Did they switch your days off?"
"No." Sabo sighs. "They technically gave me the next thirty-six hours. Technically closer to forty. Something like that. I go back in on Friday. Sometime.” He tries to smile and it turns out very lopsided, from that he can make out in the rearview mirror. “Can you tell I’m tired?”
“I don’t think ‘tired’ is an accurate description,” Ace quips. “When did you eat a proper meal last?”
“Uh, yesterday. Maybe.”
“Maybe??”
“A ‘proper meal’ means different things to the two of us,” Sabo huffs. “On my account it was yesterday. I’ve had food since then, of course.”
“Alright, so here’s the plan,” Ace announces before absolutely whipping it around a curve. Sabo is his passenger in the passenger seat and had fully prepared to be so when he got in the vehicle, but he’d been vastly underprepared for this sudden course of action, which is how he ends up halfway out of his seat with his cheek slammed into the cold window. Ace doesn’t quite notice his brother’s terminal velocity until the car is once again on the straight and narrow, and only then it’s because of the audible thunk Sabo’s face makes when it collides with the glass.
“Aw shit. You good bro?”
“Ow,” Sabo mutters. “If I have broken bones I’m suing your ass.”
“Well, if you’re good enough to make jokes, I think you’re better than you’re letting on.” Ace keeps the wheel steady with one knee while he takes both hands away to crack his fingers. When he glances over at Sabo again, he looks even more pathetic – like he’s becoming one with the glass. “Anyway, as I was saying.
“I’m taking your ass home. You’re going straight to sleep and while you crash, I’ll make you something decent to eat and stick it in the fridge for you to heat up later. I’ll even make you two servings to eat two different times, since you clearly can’t be trusted to take care of yourself correctly.”
“Ouch.”
“I want you to conk out for as long as your body allows. We can reset your sleep schedule tomorrow, alright? Put your phone on silent; do not answer any calls. In fact, you know what, just give it to me.
Sabo glances over to see Ace’s hand held out to him, palm up. Fingers wiggling expectantly. His lips pull up into a grimace. “I’m not doing that.”
“Fine.” Ace takes his hand back. “But you will comply with everything else.”
“Wow! It’s so funny, I didn’t realize you turned into my mother overnight! Really tapped into your mom potential, huh? Anything exciting happen in your life that would cause that? I guess I wouldn’t know, since I’ve been a zombie for the past two days.”
“There’s nothing wrong with acting like your older brother, you dipshit, especially if you keep putting yourself through the wringer like this. You go home. You sleep. You wake up and eat. You go back to sleep. Then we do laundry. Does that sound agreeable?”
“That’s negotiable, at the least,” Sabo mumbles. “I will accept good food as a form of bribery.”
“Oh, nice, because I’m flat broke at the moment.”
Sabo makes a mental note of that, and then they’re pulling into the driveway. Ace lets him exit the vehicle by himself and then promptly manhandles him all the way onto the couch where it will be easier to force his body to relax than in a real bed. Ace knows this, so he calls him weird before chucking a loose blanket at his head. Sabo is almost too tired to function at this point, so he lets Ace have the last laugh in favor of finally closing his eyes.
Coming to is a surreal experience, especially since the sun is still out. He must make a noise because Ace is suddenly within view. His limbs are tangled in the blanket and still so heavy that he doesn’t bother moving. “Thought you would be gone,” he half-groans, eyes slipping shut again for a moment.
“I did leave,” Ace confirms. “I had to go pilfer some stuff to make stew with. It’s almost done, so I’ll hang here until then.”
Pilfer. That could mean any number of things. Sabo chooses to believe in the option where Ace is an upstanding citizen, and then remembers Ace saying earlier that he had no money. He frowns and squirms on the cushions enough to where it looks like he’s checking his pockets. “Where’s my wallet, Ace?” he bluffs.
“Somewhere around here,” Ace pipes up. “Your stomach will thank you for your contributions to the Portgas Household’s pantry!”
“Ugh, I got robbed,” he complains. “This sucks. ‘m going back to sleep.” He rolls over so his back is to Ace.
“Yeah, you do you, bro. Stew will still be here later. I’ll see you when you’re back in the world of the living.”
Luffy comes in late that night and slams the front door shut as loud as humanly possible. When he appears in the main room, he doesn’t seem to be upset, so Ace writes it off as a Luffyism. Sabo hasn’t stirred at the noise, so it’s all good.
Realizing this, Luffy pads closer to Ace’s side and looks at Sabo’s unmoving body warily. “Why is Sabo passed out like a corpse? Is he sick?”
“No, he’s not sick, he just can’t take care of himself. Which is why we are going to let him sleep for as long as possible.”
Luffy just nods to this, but it’s the uncomprehending Luffy-nod that means he’s just going to end up doing whatever he wants to regardless. Ace sighs, then jerks his head towards the kitchen. “He ate a little earlier, but I want him to eat again when he wakes up. There’s stew in the fridge if you want it – just leave him a little. Got it, Monkey D. Luffy?”
Luffy throws him a salute and then runs off in his socks. “Yippee! Ace made stew!”
“Think of your brother, Luffy, and make good choices!” Ace calls after him. “He’s a pathetic man who needs food to feel better or he’ll end up sleeping through Laundry Day!”
Sabo does not sleep through laundry day, but he does sleep for sixteen whole hours, so it’s just around noon when he forces himself up off the couch and into a warm shower.
Ace is around, which is mildly unexpected. But he’s still half-asleep, so everything is at least a little unexpected. He glances up from playing video games with Luffy to see Sabo leaving the steam-filled bathroom with his hair hanging around his shoulders. “You look like a wet cat,” he calls.
“Sabo’s awake!” Luffy cheers. “Ace thought you died at one point.”
Ace elbows Luffy in the gut, making him hunch over. “I did not!”
“He totally checked to see if your heart was still beating!”
“I’m undead, actually,” Sabo says completely seriously.
“Does that mean you don’t need to eat anymore?” Luffy questions. “Because I ate all the stew last night.”
“I saw that coming and made extra.” Ace finger-guns in Sabo’s general direction. “That’s why I bought two sets of ingredients. With your money!”
“With my money,” Sabo echoes, because it’s such a wild statement to have to deal with this early in the day. Well, early for him. “Fuck you.”
“I mean, I can tell Luffy where I hid–”
“Thank you, Ace, for agreeing to share your quarters with both of your brothers so we can all do laundry today on your dime!” Sabo raises his pitch so his voice is mockingly squeaky when he says this. He starts moving down the hall before Ace can start to argue, letting his and Luffy’s voices bleed into the background.
When he comes back out, now dressed, it smells significantly better than before. “I reheated the stew,” Ace announces, gesturing for Sabo to take a seat at the kitchen counter. “Let’s all have lunch before we head out.”
“You have to drink this too,” Luffy tells Sabo, sliding a Gatorade across the counter so it sets in front of him when he finally does take a seat. “Ace’s orders.”
“Gotta get those nutrients back somehow.”
“Aren’t we so considerate, Sabo?”
“Do you even know what ‘considerate’ means?” Sabo asks, lips quirking up into a half-smile. At Luffy’s shrug, it turns into a real smile. “Well, thanks anyway. Both of you.”
“No sweat. And look!” Ace brandishes a five dollar bill for both to see. “I found this baby for us to use on coins! It’s all on me today–”
“Where’s my wallet, Ace?!”

tagged by the fantastic @sunriseverse! thanks sunny!! 💖
under the cut because this one is long
1. why did you choose your url?
i wanted a new fandom penname and at the time adjective + noun names were a thing. i fiddled with several different variations, tried and failed to acquire kaleidoscopicmoonrise at the time (it's mine now!!), and landed on this one. i wanted something a little spooky, especially since soul eater was my fandom at the time - though it doesn't feel like it now that my icon is a lot more sane-looking lmfao
2. any sideblogs? if you have them name them and why you have them.
uh. yeah. a stupid amount (like 30+?), so i'm definitely not naming them all. most active are obviously this howl blog, my main blog @commandersya, this one for danny phantom and gravity falls stuff, @howlingspacegoo gets some activity every now and then when venom stuff resurfaces, and some others i use for reblogging specific reference stuff. most of the rest are for fandom events i've run in the past.
3. how long have you been on tumblr?
since like 2011-2012. i've seen it all.
4. do you have a queue tag?
lmao absolutely not. i don't use the queue function, though on occasion i'll schedule posts to space them out when i'm going through a tag in order not to reblog all of it at once, or for specific dates like halloween
5. why did you start your blog in the first place?
this one was for soul eater writing purposes. tumblr in general was because my cousin dragged me into it and then i realized there was a lot of bandom stuff in here (i was really into black veil brides for my first year or two on tumblr)
6. why did you choose your icon/pfp?
i broke ties with the soul eater fandom in a not great way and wanted to change my icon. yoi provided the perfect yuri expression with the kind of benevolent dictator smile i really like, despite that not being the original intent for it when the animators drew it ✊😔
7. why did you choose your header?
i had to check my header real quick lmfao. jason todd is just an excellent blorbo and when a good artist draws him.... 👀👀👀
8. what’s your post with the most notes?
oh gods. probably my dracula/barbie fic at nearly 3.5k notes. where's that ben affleck cigarrette pic when you need it. alternatively some ancient black veil brides photo/gif on my main blog.
9. how many mutuals do you have?
idk but i cherish y'all 💖
10. how many followers do you have?
dunno 😭 they're split across dozens of blogs so i'm not counting them all
11. how many people do you follow?
1.8k+, though i should follow more. my dash has times when it's pretty dead.
12. have you ever made a shitpost?
probably? yes. just remembered the i bit the butte psoh post.
13. how often do you use tumblr each day?
however long i'm online on my laptop, more or less. so a sizeable amount of hours
14. did you have a fight/argument with another blog once?
LMAO. i was in both voltron and yoi fandoms, writing for and running events for "problematic" ships. take a wild wild guess.
15. how do you feel about ‘you need to reblog this’ posts?
hate them. 90% of the time it'll make me automatically skip it. for the other 10%, if it has relevant info on the op's original post and that little sentence is on the comments then i might go back and reblog from the op just to get rid of it
16. do you like tag games?
love them!
17. do you like ask games?
see above
18. which of your mutuals do you think is tumblr famous?
i have uhhh. some. olderthannetfic, nemainofthewater, i think also colubrina for a while there, off the top of my head.
19. do you have a crush on a mutual?
if friend crushes count then several ✊😔
20. what is the last song you listened to?
the cramps - goo goo muck
21. what are you currently watching?
i am. so bad at finishing things so like a bajillion shows. the double i might drop despite it having been very very good until like episode 30-something. meet you at the blossom i need to finish like the last two eps. wandee goodday i need to finish four episodes iirc. i was in like episode 5 of century of love. i was on episode... 17? of my journey to you, which if i power through shall be for the antagonist sidepair/trio rather than the main characters. i was also at episode 16 of new life begins, which was fairly good and i do want to continue though i keep forgetting i have that tab open somewhere.
22. sweet/ savoury/ spicy?
savoury!
23. what is your current relationship status?
single and ace so not planning on changing that!
24. what is your current obsession?
the spirealm/kaleidoscope of death, and mysterious lotus casebook
25. what are nine albums/ songs you've been listening to lately?
- La P'tite Fumée - Cypher - Brody Dale - Don't Mess With Me - Stiff Little Fingers - Alternative Ulster - Concrete Blonde - Bloodletting (The Vampire Song) - The Cramps - What's Inside a Girl - Linkin Park - Heavy is the Crown - Miyavi & PVRIS - Snakes - D-A-D - Sleeping My Day Away - Aerosmith - Dream On
no-pressure tagging! @junemermaid @a-memory-a-distant-echo @snorlaxlovesme @where-the-water-flows @nemainofthewater

End-of-Year Appreciation Post
Let's see if I can get this done before midnight - I have 36 minutes! But I really wanted to get this posted, so... time for a speedrun! This post won't nearly be able to say everything I wanna say, so, first and foremost: I love and appreciate all of my mutuals and people I've gotten to talk to this year, so thanks for coming to my corner of the internet and gifting me a little (or a lot - because lord knows I don't shut up if someone mentions one of my favourite fandoms) of your time!
With that being said, time for some special thanks!
@wheresmybloodynauglamir The encyclopedia of Star Trek and one of my closest friends on this hellsite. Thanks so much for literally everything you've done for me this year and all the lovely conversations. Let's have a lot more of those next year! Live long and prosper <3
@littlemervie Thank you for indulging my very nichest of niche interests like The Little Prince and for always sending me a kind message when I least expected it.
@fluffle-system My favourite bnuy in the whole world and a fellow FNAF enjoyer. I hope I always get to be the auxiliary to your detective (yes, this is actually sort of an accurate aitiology of how my url came to be - if you know you know). Let's solve more mysteries and riddles together.
@supermarine-silvally You may have only very recently stumbled into my corner of the internet but I adore every conversation we've had and I hope that many more are to come. If I had to make a choice to pass on my OCs to anyone, the great Donna Aurelia would be yours, and that's a great honor, so I hope you know how much I appreciate our conversations!
@carriagelamp We didn't talk too much this year and that's frankly a crime, but I still stare lovingly at every piece of art you've created for me, with me, or simply for the fandoms I'm in - and the ones for fandoms I don't know I stare at from afar. Just letting you know that I smile everytime I see you on my dash :)
@faerieroyal Dolly my beloved! I hereby sincerely apologize for all the times I've hopped into our Discord chat to ramble about my OCs or whine about my hour-long adventures of looking for faceclaims and/or names, but I'm not planning on stopping anytime soon. The amount of positivity and support you bring into my life is immesurable and I absolutely adore you for supporting each of my OCs, even if you don't know their fandom, and how you let me introduce you to my newest hyperfixations when the brainrot strikes. - To many more rambling sessions!
@come-along-pond who allowed me to participate in the fyeahonepieceocs blog and gave me a platform to launch my own little project of a OP resources blog from. - Through anon hate and plot bunnies, you've helped me and supported me through so much and I'm really, really thankful for that!
@oneirataxia-girl @endless-oc-creations and everyone else in the Discord Server, thank you so much for suffering through my countless pings and appearing when I need you most to offer your advice and help. You've saved many of my OCs in the past and I'm certain you'll keep doing so in the future.
@starcrossedjedis @bravelittleflower and @ninjasawakenedmystar aka the angels who made Cora's creation possible - and by extention then also that of Lily and La Donna! Thanks so much, my fellow One Piece girlies!
@thehedgehogat221b who has been keeping me tethered to the A-Team fandom, making sure that I never forget how happy it makes me, and who always has time to spare to hear me ramble about Kit Kelley and her conman boyfriend
@daughterofhecata @bistdueinbaum and the entire Die Drei ??? fandom. You brought me onto Tumblr and though I may not be as active in the fandom anymore, Tumblr still considers my blog a Die Drei ??? blog and I don't plan on forgetting my roots anytime soon, so I promise you more detective content in the year 2024 - featuring my beloved Jelena, of course! My token adopted side character... Maybe I'll also hop into the Tatort fandom, who knows? Also, can we make Rosenheim Cops a fandom? I feel kinda lonely and silly over here lol
@claramurphyqueenoffandoms the VoicePlay supporter. Man, was I happy to find someone who loves these dorks as much as I do. We haven't talked much, but thanks so much for enabling the hyperfixation that triggered my character development into a happier person and letting me relive those memories.
@cody-helix02 @thoughpoppiesblow @footprintsinthesxnd @kafka-ohdear and the entire Band of Brothers fandom. You've been so nice to me from day one when I first stumbled into the fandom and you still are incredibly lovely people! I'd like to give something back, so, if you ever need any research done for your fic and you can't find anything, let me know and I'll traverse my resources and my university's library to see what I can find <3 Also, I shall present to you more Anita content in the future! There's one fic featuring Luz and one featuring Bull curently in my projects list!
@maxwellshimbo @asaturnerofficial and all the other lurkers and people I constantly find in my notes - you always brighten my day. I'll have had an awful no good time but then I see you and I go: "Ah yes, my friends are still here" and I feel so much better!
Thanks to much to everyone on and off the list, and have a very lovely new year!

Hi, i sent that link for more reference about the subject. The more the merrier, right? And i think it's always nice to appreciate the efforts of all the meta writers, old and new ♥
Curiously, the other post from 2017 you linked (by princess in a tower), was written after the convo in the link i sent (marydri was princess in a tower old url).
Have a good day :)
(Continuation of this convo)
I genuinely do believe “the more the merrier” which is why I always attempt to link to posts if I know where I first heard something, but I’m also reluctant to go too far into the “crediting” idea because the last time this came up, it wasn’t a celebration of what the older Jonsas had written, but an attempt to make a newer Jonsa meta writer feel like crap. It wasn’t used to include, but was a deliberate attempt to discredit and just kinda, exert ownership of ideas and prevent people from taking things in new directions.
As a Jonsa, a fan of a ship that only exists because fans decided to come to their own conclusions and offered new readings on characters and dynamics, even reinterpreted themes of the story, you have to understand just how off-putting and counterproductive that behavior seems to me. I want every jonsa to feel heard and appreciated for their efforts, for them to enjoy the fandom, which is why, when I’m active, I do my best to both boost newcomers and link to older metas, but prior experience with this works cited idea has made what I consider a pleasure, a real minefield.
Fandom is all about how we inspire each other to create, it isn’t just about the source material. A comment sparking a meta, a meta inspiring characterization for a fic, a fic inspiring art, I’ve seen all of that and think it’s a beautiful thing. So no, I don’t think that’s “curious,” I think it’s perfectly normal for a comment to inspire someone to write a meta. I’ve tagged people in asks to get them to write about an idea, had other people then write metas about it. I like it! Also, ifeas grow in unpredictable ways, and we’re all engaging with our beloved book or show via different mediums and on different websites and in many different languages, so choosing to assume the best of each other’s motives is necessary, and I’m wary of anything that discourages people from engaging. We don’t know which meta someone else has read. For a while, I read all the knew meta, this year, I haven’t even tried to keep up. Sometimes not being credited isn’t an exclusion, it’s simply because you weren’t part of the journey for that specific individual. I’ve seen people come to the same conclusion following very different paths a lot in fandom! And generally speaking, I’m really not sure how “ownership” of a parallel or of a theory works? Waymar’s death foreshadowing Jon’s or that he’ll lose an eye or that we’ll get romantic Jonsa, all are offshoots of the basic “these guys are described the same way,” but I’d think it a bit odd for the person who first noticed the parallel (years before it became a Jonsa thing) to feel ownership over everything that came after.
An infamous example of the futility of theory ownership is the poor blogger who came up with a Sansxn version of the Ashford theory which Jonsas looked at and said, “you do not know what to do with this but we do!” and ran with it, and they’ve been trying to squash people jonsa-ing it or speculating about Sansa x Aegon ever since:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You get the idea. It’s a great theory, I don’t like the original ship, but kudos for op for noticing the parallels. They saw something, someone else saw it too. Many, many people ran with it. It’s inspired a general “Jon is the last suitor” or specific, “Jon will literally go to the tourney” spec in our fandom. I’ve read lots of stuff about it and enjoyed it all. However, I don’t assume everyone who writes about the Ashford Tourney is stealing from the op. I genuinely think a lot of fans didn’t even know where it (potentially) originated, and I certainly don’t think the original goal of the theory (Sansa ends up with the Hound) precludes reinterpretations.
Anyway, I absolutely make an effort to credit Jonsas whenever I can, but having witnessed what I have within our fandom, and seeing how other people treat Jonsas because of this stuff, I’m resistant to getting bogged down in this issue. I don’t want fans to feel like they can’t post about Waymar without someone vague blogging because they weren’t credited. I’ll gladly read a dozen posts talking about the Waymar -> Jon -> Sansa wildly in love -> Jonsa idea and love each and every one of them. I enjoy reading different takes on the same idea. It takes nothing away from those who have already made up their minds about what it means, and sometimes, the new post words things in a way that clicks with a new audience which is something we all should appreciate. It’s all upside imo!

My url is bc my previous blogs, readingdreamingscheming and cozywordz, broke (tumblr hates vpns) this was going to be one more attempt at a blog before giving up. My pfp is from over the garden wall. I haven’t changed either of them bc I fear my mutuals not recognizing me.
Things I may post about with varied ratios and intervals (ie: my interests):
Books/other media
Kotlc, riordanverse, toh, gravity falls, svtfoe, atla, heartstopper?, tuc, tlc, dropout?, tmbs (the mysterious Benedict society), thg and tbosas, Holly black novels, 36 Questions the Podcast Musical, The Great Comet of 1812, TIG, The Naturals, and probably more.
Honestly, this is mostly a book blog
STEM
mostly neuroscience, psychology, data science, plant stuff, and maybe some physics—also maybe academia
Neurodivergence and neurodiversity
primarily neurodevelopmental disorders, personal experience, and curious musings
Other
You also may get random thoughts, shit posts, ramblings, deep thoughts, and the product of curiosity-driven web searches
animal facts
Sometimes I add ids to posts without ids (I do it when I have time and can confidently describe them)
I also may occasionally post about world events.
What there will and won’t be:
There will be no p*rn or anything close to it. That stuff makes me uncomfortable, so please respect that boundary.
There will be swear words.
There will be no bigotry.
There will be liberal usage of the block button.
There will probably be a lot of Bippy frog stickers.
There will be spoilers which I’ll try to be better about tagging (I just don’t remember when things happen😭)
I probably won’t tag you in things unless I am tagged in something first!

I’ll try to add tone indicators when I think it might be unclear, but feel free to request I add a tone indicator or clarify my tone! Here is a list of tone indicators I may use (most common in bold) (working on making the post now!)
It has been drawn to my attention that ppl shipping me could become a thing. Please don’t :)
Disclaimer: I also have no obligation to respond to everyone and everything. I mean, yeah, I’ll try, and, yeah, I’ll get most, but, if you refer to the top of this post, you will see that I am 1) double majoring in two different STEM disciplines, 2) disabled, and 3) very tired. If you stick around here for a bit, you will realize there are more numbers and things I have going on, so I will not pressure myself to respond to everything, especially things that stress me out more than I already am.

hi! 👋 i hope this is not much of a bother at all esp since i’m a stranger but i’m really desperate for help and i’m trying my luck on finding it here on tumblr.
if it is ok with you, can i ask you to help directly (if you are able and willing) or to reblog my donation post (https://www.tumblr.com/poignardrose/740867364638392320/please-help-a-college-student-survive) which is also pinned on my profile. i hope you have a great day wherever you are. thank you in advance! ❤️
unfortunately can't donate but i'll reblog 🫡 good luck and stay strong op
(talking to my followers) i was originally concerned this was a scam, but seems pretty legit. from a few year old blog which has been regularly reblogging stuff ( has a lot of poetry but a bit of aesthetic and fandom) and has a normal tumblr url, header, pfp, etc
so obviously if someone wants to donate/reblog they should probably check to make sure if it fits their own standards of what is sus

Seeing as you are quite fond of BloodBorne and the various eyes it tends to layer on peoples brains, what are your thoughts on Elden Ring? (Apologies if this has been asked already)
Also considering FromSoft is putting out Armored Core 6 would you be interested in playing that as well?
(this is a poor attempt to distract you from the horrible dumb shit that Anon sent you, so i send you hugs and questions to help)
DUDE I FUCKING LOVE ELDEN RING, it's my favorite Fromsoft game behind Bloodborne, so much so that I have a canon url blog for it at @lichdragon-fortissax (though I admittedly haven't been posting as much there bc I've been in my Destiny 2 hyperfixation as of late). I adore the story, the characters, the art and the gameplay, and it's where I ended up accidentally making a couple of ocs I'm actually really fond of, which is rare bc I tend to be extremely nitpicky about my own personal content. Bloodborne is a favorite in a sort of spiritual/thematic way but Elden Ring is a fav for it's storytelling, with Ds1 right behind it. I've got so many hours in there and tbh once I'm finished griding out the rest of Season of the Deep I'm considering redownloading it to give my strength and int builds another shot (though I'll probs just co-op Malenia on Fenrix more bc I adore that fight). It's a fucking masterpiece
As for Armoured Core, I just finished watching Vaati and Ironpineapple's videos on it and I'm super stoked to see it in full, though I'm kind of on the fence if I want to get it at full launch or wait to watch a playthrough first, which I did with every game but Elden Ring bc I knew I'd click with it right away (full launch is 5 days before my birthday, so that would be a great present, but still...I'm stingy with money and when to spend it shchfje). I'm not much of a mech guy typically, but I love the bleak nature of the Armoured Core series with their poignant criticism of capitalist corperate systems, and the super-customization aspect of it makes my little strategy-loving brain giddy. I get the feeling that if I do end up playing it I'll just end up tinkering with my build and replaying missions over and over again for the sole purpose of maximizing efficiency for each encounter, bc if there's one thing I love to do, it's find a way to absolutely bulldoze bossfights. It looks sick as hell and I absolutely cannot wait for someone to find the world's most broken build day 1 of the community that comes to dominate the meta before it gets nerfed to hell and back (though tbh I'd be just as delighted if that was a fruitless effort simply because of certain strategies needing certain parts and tactics, as seems to be the idea for the gameplay)

⭐AO3 Bookmark Hack⭐
Nothing makes my heart sink worse than the blank "This has been deleted, sorry!" message in amongst my bookmarks. I'm left wondering which fic it was among my many saved that's now lost forever.
BUT if you copy and paste the fic title and author name into the bookmark notes, you'll never be left with a faceless bookmark again.
SuperPro Tip: If you also copy the URL in, there's a chance you can dig it out on the wayback archive (if it's a chaptered fic, make sure you select "entire work" before copy and pasting the URL)
And if you're an author, please consider orphaning your works rather than deleting them. It strips out your name and everything, but still leaves the fic there for readers to enjoy

Hi :) sorry to barge in. I promise, I mean this in the gentlest way possible and I am only writing because I initially agreed with you and then changed my mind. - This is about saying in the tags that 'it's-fine-to-skip-nine's url is incorrect.
Because, like obviously, when I first read the url, I disagreed strongly, just like you did. Nine is amazing and their season should be watched and OBVIOUSLY you shouldn't ignore it by starting with series 2 and never going back to it.
But that's not what the url is about. The concerned blog has a pinned post which explains it better than I could, so check that out for context if you like. But the take away is: by now nuwho has become large and long. And people start watching at all different stages. Telling newcomers they have to start with series 1 or that they are fake fans if they haven't watched it, does more harm than good. It might discourage people from getting into the fandom and antagonise them.
And according to the blog and in my opinion, it is completely fair to start with series 5 or series 11 or even series 8 or anything in between. (I actually started simultaneously with series 10 and 3 but that's another story and maybe not the best idea.) As long as you go back eventually and appreciate series 1 and the ninth Doctor.
The url is about allowing people into the fandom at any stage, and not actually saying that the ninth Doctor is worth less or series 1 worse than any other season.
Hence, I just felt like I should defend it's-fine-to-skip-nine because they're lovely. I think there is a lot of truth to the url, if you understand it like it is meant, but I completely get how you would mistake it for something else. I mean, it did happen to me too.
I hope you're not mad at me for this? Because I really love seeing you in my notifications and I enjoy your takes. And also your reaction made me mostly happy. I just think the blog gets a lot of similar messages and I hate to imagine how that feels. I mean, I would not keep a url like that that can easily be misunderstood but I totally get their point and I understand why they want to share the thought.
So I felt like something needed to be said and maybe it's not always them who have to defend it?
(also your icon is gorgeous 😍
Thank you so much for explaining, I’m not at all mad, I love seeing you round too <3.
Honestly I just saw the url and kept scrolling so I appreciate you pointing this out and I completely agree. My own first episode of who was season 8(? I think) and I recently recommended my friend start at season 5 (I just think the eleventh hour is a brilliant ep and a great introduction to the show), because op is definitely right, who has stuck around for so long in large part because it’s constantly renewing itself, you can jump on the train wherever and whenever you like. Which is something that’s pretty bloody important when the shows been around for 60 odd years (and ideally going to be running for another 60 years).
Their intended message is lovely and I’ll dig a little deeper next time before poking fun. Fuck gate keeping and fuck calling people “fake fans”.
It’s entirely lovely of you to defend them and thanks again for the message. (I’m in love with this pfp if I ever change it know that I’ve lost all sense)

some of yall realllly need to relearn how to spot terfs outside of them openly hating on trans women. theres this yellow crayon video iv seen a couple times now on my dash, and the obvious asshole person on the post is (rightfully) called out for being a terf by most people in the notes. great! but then almost everyone completely looks over the fact that the literal op of that post is also a terf. who has "radical" in their url. who in that very same post has an unnecessary comment making fun of some men's hobbies. but yea sure only check if the obvious asshole of the post is a terf.

Random tumblr hacks and info:
if you are on mobile, you can fast queue or fast reblog by holding down the queue or reblog button and then swiping up to the little icon of your blog (if you have sideblogs, they'll show up as options.)
if you're on desktop, you can fast queue by holding down W and clicking the reblog button (it should turn pink when you press W) or fast reblog by holding down E and clicking reblog (should turn blue.)
you can edit tags now on desktop -- not on mobile yet, but if you make a typo in a tag on desktop, you can click into the tag and edit it directly instead of having to retype the whole thing
similarly, on desktop you can rearrange tags before posting by grabbing the # and dragging the tag into place. Can't do this on mobile. Yet.
You can blacklist both tags AND post content. In your settings, you can block any post that has, say #tarantulas in the tags, but if you REALLY don't want to see any of that you can add "tarantula" and "tarantulas" to your blocked content list as well.
op's tags are persistent. So if the original poster tagged it with #tw blood, you don't have to worry about tagging it before you reblog. It'll carry through. However it has to be OP, not the secondary person you reblogged from, and this doesn't apply to tags on reblogs. Those are just for you and your followers.
Only the first ~5 tags on your post are searchable on the site. Anything after that is fair game for subvocalizing, adding your own commentary, or screeching over lovely art.
The search function is garbage. But you can go to your blog and add "/tagged/tarantulas" to the end of the URL to (in theory) show (most of) the posts that have that.
A great way to edit tags (or find posts with specific tags when tumblr fails you) is tags.circumfluo.us/. This site is invaluable. You can search any tag you've used and replace it -- or click the hyperlink to go straight to the post. Did you just realize you've been tagging Martyn Inthelittlewood as Martin this whole time? That's your salvation right there.
You can make your posts unrebloggable and/or un-reply-to-able in the settings when you make the post (little gear menu at the top) and you can edit them to change those factors after posting.
Don't bother to edit a post once enough people have reblogged it: the one they reblog will remain as it was when they reblogged it, and anyone who reblogs from them will get that copy. You can change the original, but there's not much point as once it's out the gate there's no getting that horse back to fix a typo. (however, this can be used for jokes and bits. just don't bother doing it to actually FIX something lol)
save your brain and turn off infinite scrolling
Also turn off "recommended for you," "in your circles," and any other recommended posts, as well as setting your dashboard to reverse-chronological.
blocking means nothing. no one will be offended. do it liberally, it's freeing and very good for your mental health.
Your blog is your bedroom. Decorate it and make it nice. There's a million themes out there, but a good place to start is @theme-hunter -- this site still lets you directly edit the code of your theme, so go nuts.
You can turn off notification/message sounds in the settings. Do it. Save your sanity.
If you go to a blog's ask page, messages are limited to 500 characters. If you hover over their username in your dash, click the little meatball menu, and click "Ask" there is no character limit.
if you use the tag #tumblr, you'll get a phantom like on your post XD
There's no way to turn off notifications for something after you've posted it. Sadly. So if you have something blowing up your notes and you want to keep it but you DON'T want the notifications, reblog it once at a quiet time so not too many people reblog it from you again... and then delete the original post. Everyone who reblogged it still has it, it's just not sending you mail anymore.
There's a few more but this post is getting long so I'm just going to link the official tumblr "Lesser-Known Features" article

I think I may not have worded this descriptively enough, since a few folks seem confused about what's broken, so -
yes, you can click on the empty space on the top of a post to get to that specific post. I know this, and it does work!
but you can't get to the post that that person reblogged from! at least, not without going through the notes and searching for it, or going to that person's blog and searching for it, both of which take a long time, especially if a post has a lot of notes, or if a blog has a lot of posts.
it's a feature that I used every day, and still use on mobile (because I refuse to update my mobile app until I know that that feature isn't going away), because it's a great feature!
like, if someone reblogs a post from me and adds tags, maybe I wonder, "oh hey, when did I reblog that post? are they responding to my tags?" - so I click on their reblog, then on my own url, and can easily see when I reblogged it, and what my tags were.
that. that is now broken. I can no longer do that on web. and it sucks!
or maybe someone on my dash says "prev tags!!" or "re: tags - yesss" or something - I would click on the url of the person they reblogged it from, and get taken directly to their post, so I could see their tags and understand the context of the tags.
can't do that either now. that also sucks!
or say, if someone made a comment that I don't like, and I want to find a version of the post that doesn't have it - but, I can't just click one of the OPs of the post itself, because they've deactivated - I could just click on people's urls to go to previous posts, until I find a version that doesn't have the comment.
or for my own entertainment! sometimes, if a post looks familiar (like something a mutual reblogged recently), I will follow the reblog chain back and see if the chain leads to that mutual! because it's so cool to see how posts travel on this wonderful, godforsaken hellsite!
those are the things that are broken, and the ones that I miss dearly on web. @staff, please help and fix this, because I feel lost without being able to do this
thank you for coming to my ted talk
hey real talk, tumblr's recent update to web makes it impossible to navigate up a reblog chain, and I'm mad about it
like seriously, the "prev tags" thing? yeah, it's now impossible to see anybody's previous tags, because clicking on the previous reblogger's url does nothing, and the only way to get to a post is to click on its header.
that means that checking who somebody reblogged from? broken. following a reblog chain to find the earliest version of a post, because OP or one of the other posters deactivated? broken. can't do it. it's now impossible.
basically, this fucking sucks for a lot of reasons, and if it bothers you as much as it bothers me, please send in a feedback ticket to tumblr!
I've already sent one in - well, I sent a bug report, thinking it was a bug, but they confirmed in their most recent changes post that it's actually on purpose! which I cannot understand, because it really is just busted now.
I just feel lost without the ability to go back and see who reblogged what and what tags they added! that was a pretty necessary function of this website, and it sucks that they took it away! :/

Hi! May I please request an imagine/oneshot of Chekov helping his wife fem!Reader relax/have comfort (Reader loves Teddy Bears) after a long anxious day? Thank you so much!
Hiya! Enjoy xx
Pavel Chekov Helping His Wife Relax After An Anxiety-Filled Day Would Include...
Tumblr media
Note: You didn't specify which Chekov so I did the one I'm more comfortable with writing
Warnings: Mentions of anxiety and anxiety symptoms (based on how I experience it). Also, this is not edited in any way, shape or form. I am currently day 3 of post-op, so my brain still feels like it's running at half power. this may be a little short/not great so I apologize in advance
Tag list: (forgot to add this earlier lol) @make-me-imagine @plaguedoctorsnake @firemedicdiaz @dira333 @geordisoong @space-helen @mrs-l-mccoy @groovyfluxie @obiwansjedi (please fill out the linked google form - especially if you've changed your url)
being married to chekov means two things: 1) pretty much everyone on the ship has "adopted" you guys as their "children" and 2) you're married to a giant teddy bear. He's the sweetest, most attentive husband ever.
he of course knows all about your struggles and your anxieties, and would know what signs to look out for on days when it's bad. he'd notice things like you picking at or chewing the skin around your nails, picking at scabs or pimples, leg shaking, zoning out, etc. he'd notice all these and would go to speak to Dr McCoy. as your friend and doctor, mccoy would check over your vitals (making sure you've been taking your meds) and would offer you help if you needed it. he'd over a shoulder to cry on or an ear to listen, and if you needed it, medication to help you relax.
but chekov would know you needed more than just medical help. he'd set up your quarters for when you got off duty. he'd put out all your stuffed animals (even the ones that were in storage), he'd put thick fuzzy blankets on the couch, chocolate (or your favourite sweet treat) on the table, your favourite flowers in a vase, a book or two out for you to read, and a hot beverage ready for you to drink. he also would lay out clean pjs and would have soft music playing in the background.
once you got home, you'd be filled with emotions and would hug him tightly. he'd kiss the top of your head and would ask if you wanted to talk about anything. if you did, he'd hold you and listen. if you didn't, he'd let you get changed before you two enjoyed everything he set up.
and so you'd spend the evening cuddled up with your husband, a thick blanket over your bodies, books in your hands, soft instrumental music playing through the speakers, and a teddy bear or two held within your arms. everything would be perfect, and would be just what you needed to feel better.

I keep hearing things about Live Journal commenting and like conversations in the comments? and possibly something about profile pictures? I was wondering if your would be wiling to explain any of that or experiences or how it differs from ao3 or something? (I joined fandom in 2018 and am really interested in it's history [guess who just discovered fanlore! hehe])
--
I was never much of a fan of changing icons, but a lot of people would have dozens and dozens and would choose the specific one that made sense with their comment or post. Sometimes, you’d match the fandom/theme/etc., but other times, the choice of icon would kind of color the interpretation of the comment. A lot of them were animated with pithy text that cycled through. Some were more like character portraits, but plenty had a vibe that was a bit more like a reaction gif. So... like... on a comment where you were going “WTF!” at something, you’d pick an icon where your fave was making a WTF face.
Icons are/were also used extensively in journal-based roleplaying, but I don’t have any experience with that.
(Your default icon shows on your actual profile page, but you can select other icons whenever you post a post or comment. I presume this is what people meant by profile pictures.)
LJ had (and Dreamwidth has) decent threaded comments, even if a comment thread is 300 comments long and has a lot of deep subthreads (rather than a top level comment and 299 direct responses). Comments have URLs, and you can go into a thread to just see some part of a subthread, which makes it easy to read even the otherwise horribly indented discussions a bajillion comments in.
This tended to inspire a lot of longform text discussion in a way tumblr supposedly doesn’t. (I mean, there’s always my own tumblr... but in general, no, tumblr is not great for this.) I’d say LJ’s level of back-and-forth in the comments, tl;dr, and pretentious blowhard-ness was about on par with Reddit, another space that prioritizes text and threaded comments.
One thing about LJ comments is that they (originally at least) had titles. So a comment thread on a post would be like “Some quick responses” and another would be like “Thinky thoughts on your third point”. (The late and unlamented “thinky thoughts” was everpresent on LJ.)
Because LJ was so locked down with infinite friends filters and such, you’d often meet other people in the comments of a third party’s post. Not everybody posted anything public, let alone anything you could really interact on, but they might show up in a big discussion elsewhere.
(Basically, on LJ and on DW, you can put different groups in filters and either 1. restrict your post to that group or 2. view a dashboard-like feed of just that group. Very helpful for sorting your friends who post commentary from that bastard you like but who needs to stop spamming a different MCU gif literally every 10 minutes all day every day to the point you can’t find anything else in your feed.)
Some of the same commenting energy exists on AO3, but it depends on the fandom. Have you ever been into a really popular WIP for a big ship where fans of the WIP would chat with each other and speculate about future fic developments or talk about canon in comment threads? The vast majority of AO3 comments are top-level and directed at the author, but you do see this other kind every once in a while. That used to be extremely common on big fics on LJ. (TBH, the main difference on AO3 is that people feel inhibited, not that they can’t still do this LJ-like behavior.)
I didn’t really post fic to LJ, so I was looking at more meta discussions, but there too, it was pretty common for two commenters to start talking to each other rather than the OP.
And yet, at the same time, you were in OP’s space where they could lock everything down if they wanted, not in a reblog situation like tumblr, so there was much more of an awareness of potential moderators. It wasn’t all good: LJ had plenty of cult of nice where people were saccharine in public and salty in friendslocked posts and tons and tons of vagueblogging.
Overall, it did privilege people who spewed out walls-o-text and wanted to discuss everything to death. Getting big for... like... properly tagging other people’s gifsets was not a thing, though there were some big name fic reccers. The focus was much more on people who could produce a lot of their own work and on people who could hold their own in a debate.
Honestly, you could probably go look at astolat’s post where she proposed AO3 and read the comments to get a sense of how people were interacting. I think that one had a lot of top-level comments, but there were probably threads.
