Talking about OCs post!
Daniel and Daniel (the Dannys): Twins that work on the moon station overlooking The World, alongside Yuri. Both of them present as male, and look almost identical, but one of them Did transition from their assigned birth gender (no one knows which one). And that's a side thing. Their main thing is that they're Yuri's direct assistant/task errand boy and they only recieve one salary, because only one of them actually joined the station in the first place (the other's application was denied). Other than Yuri, few people realize there are actually two of them, and they both constantly get mistaken for the other. Due to loving mischief they both are completely fine with this 👍 and encourage the chaos surrounding them because the observation station gets boring. they've both been there for as long as Yuri and Xena have. Danny tends to be a part of shenanigans even if they didn't start it.
Gawain: (working name for now) The accounting director. He is in charge of the observation station's funding aqcuisition and researcher salaries, and hasn't been seen by those outside the accounting division for the few hundred years he's been on the station. But recently he's been trying to change that! To fit in, not only is Gawain studying really hard about basic human interactions, but has also changed his form to look (what he thinks) the most pleasing to the eye. So he has blonde hair, green eyes, and if you didn't listen closely you'd think he was a womanizer and a playboy. If you look closely, you'd notice that while he chats people up (and seems to truly enjoy doing so), he never makes a move on others and keeps his hands and limbs politely to himself.
Millennium (Mimi): Mimi's the hardest to succinctly describe because she's more of a major character while also being incredibly minor. She was meant to be the protagonist of her own story before I firmly decided on Era's, but I retooled her while also keeping some of her original setting. So! Mimi is a ghost, she was brutally murdered, and she is currently stuck in Data (the embodiment)'s personal home server. Mimi originally hailed from a ~2000s like period on Era's planet, enjoyed computers, and had hardly begun learning their version of Basic before her untimely death 😔 So, newly minted ghost lands herself in the universe's most detailed database ran by the embodiment of actual data, and this ghost learnt how to play with more advanced machinery and code in 10 days with little to no prior exposure. what do u do. She's slated to become Data's girlfriend. Eventually. She's got a super bright and playful personality to contrast with Data's serious one 🥺 and creates super neat code with concise comments and emoticons scattered within. also super keen on vengeance but it happens really easily for her
Side note/setting for Era and Millennium's world while I'm here:
Naming habits on era's planet tend to place importance on chronology and keep time meticulously, and its not uncommon for parents to choose names based on the day their child was born, especially if it coincides with a large change in dates.
So era, originally born december 31st, xx99, is born at the end of an Era. Millennium, born the next day on january 1st, x000, is the beginning of a new Millennium. (and someone *really* messed up on writing the fates for this batch of new souls)
#Mara's Shit#Danny#Mimi#Gawain#OCs#i really love the dannys 🥺 they're supposed to be a good foil for how serious yuri is all the time#and mimi is my new baby everyone say hi to mimi. i am rotating her in my head#also Millenium = Millenium bug#mimi = meme = memetic exposure = a real ghost in the machine on a network

Can you tell us more about your Sailor Earth OC? 👀
Oh my goodness thank you for asking!!! I'm going to be greedy and use this as an info dump, hope that’s okay anon! 🙏
For starters, I should mention that Sailor Earth is a redesign/alternate fandom recycle of my main oc Genevieve Marena. She was originally created in 2018 for the Fairy Tail fandom and started with the name Hoseki Ishi.
Gene's thing was always diamonds, gems and minerals. So when I became obsessed with- *ahem* I mean, Got into Sailor Moon, I could not resist the urge to draw her as Sailor Earth. I drew her within a month of reading and buying the first 2 volumes LOL.
This is the art from August 1st 2022
Since then I fell utterly in love with Dream arc, Mamoru and any version of him, Elysion, the Golden Kingdom, Helios’ role as a guardian priest and literally anything related to the Earth as Naoko Takeuchi wrote of it.
I was also low-key upset about how 90s was treating Mamo and Usagi, so I ironically made her the senshi that defends the love of Serenity and Endymion and protects their happiness lol.
Thinking about her more seriously as I am now deeply attached to Sailor Moon, I have a working summary of how I imagine her.
I explored her various designs for the series back in Summer 2023 (again after finishing the manga)
More recently, I've been brainstorming how to more efficiently include her in the Sailor Moon story. I've been doing light research on Mythology, becoming more familiar with Astrology and crystals. I was honestly struggling quite a bit when it became clear that Earth is almost excluded from Astrology. That is, it's not treated in the same respect as Mercury or Neptune etc. are.
I also knew that I didn't want to make her a Princess, that would be like replacing Endymion as the heir to the planet. And I was not about to make her the child of NQ Serenity and King Endymion. So I thought I might make her somewhat like Chibi Moon. If there can be two Sailor Moon senshi, then I say, why not two Earth guardians? Then I noticed that Pink Moon is actually the term for April's full moon. So I thought I could do something with that to make my Sailor Earth stand out (since it is obviously a very unoriginal idea in the first place) but I have yet to find a similar thing for Earth.
Basically Earth is much less interesting than literally any other heavenly body to astronomers and astrologists so I'm working with very little lol.
Anyway, I decided she'd be an Elysion Priestess and that she was given the powers of a Sailor Senshi to protect the Earth and her prince. She goes to the surface and attends Rei’s school, T.A girls academy.
More recently, I was watching Eternal for like the 1 millionth time and it has always bugged me that the 2 Maenads look like they are from the Moon.
They look more like Queen Serenity than someone from Earth.
So, no offense to Takeuchi my girl, but imma change that. Because unfortunately I feel like things from Silver Millenium like the Twin bun hair on these two overlap too much with what should be unique to Earth. (But that is a blog for another day, so I digress) The two Maenads are now Gaia and Terra. Gaia becomes Sailor Earth and goes to the surface as Hoseki Jinsei and her Lavender Earth Crystal forms.
See these two? One of ‘em is Gaia.
Also, since it is already shameless enough to make a Sailor Earth self insert, I'm inserting my late cat Flash and his name is Apollo because Moon kitties are from Mau therefore any planet can have one not just Moon senshi. But also cuz I miss the hell out of him and I can't look at Artemis without thinking about him.
As of right now, this is the general concept of my Sailor Earth:
Name: Gaia
Gender: female
Civilian Name: Hoseki Jinsei
Senshi name: Sailor Earth
Sailor Crystal: Lavender Earth Crystal
Family: Terra (sister?/mother?) Helios (brother)
Occupation: Elysion Priestess
Partner: Apollo (white kitty with heterochromia from Mau, Artemis' twin brother)
Again, thank you so much for giving me the chance to info dump :3

supernatural s1e16 shadow (w. eric kripke)
(this is a rewatch so spoilers abound)
[i forgot to pick a top image and when i saw this in the screenshot folder i laughed so there we go]
bump in activity on my gifset from this episode with takes that i wouldn't have guessed in a million years got me motivated to finally get this going since it's been a week or two since i finally finished 1x15 :p
quality 00s cool girl fashion here. that skinny sequined scarf, the layers, the baggy cargo pants
had to make gifs of this goofy ass murder of the week. bad cg claymation looking ass
spn s1e16 lorena gale as landlady / the x-files s4e22 elegy as attorney
she's been in 3 xfiles episodes (and the 2008 movie! and millenium) - including xf 1x06 called shadows LOL
ok uh you could make all sorts of drawings out of random spots LOL but for a hot second i was like oh no that's not the true detective spiral is it? no, whew
this bar scene i also used a fair bit in my texas hold em edit so now that's all i can think of.
SAM Did you get anything? Besides her number? DEAN Dude, I’m a professional. I’m offended that you would think that. (SAM gives him a knowing look.) All right, yeah. (He chuckles and holds up a napkin with the bartender’s phone number on it.) SAM You mind doin’ a little bit of thinking with your upstairs brain, Dean?
what i do like and it's something that comes up in different ways, how despite whatever distraction is going on they both will focus on the case and work together smoothly. they don't lean into this like, cliche for a cheap laugh stretching out the distraction. be it from thinking about the bartender's number and banging her, or that sam and dean have been fighting. they really are professionals!
DEAN So, you’ve heard of me? MEG Oh, yeah. I’ve heard of you. Nice—the way you treat your brother like luggage. DEAN Sorry? MEG Why don’t you let him do what he wants to do? Stop dragging him over God’s green earth.
lol i feel like this is also what certain sam-people were saying about dean in the tags of the gifset. (but in fact sam does have agency, gasp)
also like. sam being all smooth and friendly with meg in the bar when he sees her, and then immediately leaving it was all just an act and he think there's something fishy. he's good at this!
DEAN And what was she saying? I treat you like luggage? What, were you bitchin’ about me to some chick? SAM Look, I’m sorry, Dean. It was when we had that huge fight when I was in that bus stop in Indiana. But that’s not important, just listen— DEAN Well, is there any truth to what she’s saying? I mean, am I keeping you against your will, Sam? SAM No, of course not.
made a gifset of this too, ofc
and of course she hit dean in his perpetual sore spot, which i assume that's part of the emotional flaying himself open to ask for sam to stay later in the episode! why am i using so many exclamation points!
DEAN Well, I bet you’d like to. I mean, maybe she’s not a suspect, maybe you’ve got a thing for her, huh? Maybe you’re thinkin’ a little too much with your upstairs brain, huh? SAM Do me a favor. Check and see if there’s really a Meg Masters from Andover, Massachusetts, and see if you can’t dig anything up on that symbol on Meredith’s floor. DEAN What are you gonna do? SAM I’m gonna watch Meg. DEAN (laughing) Yeah, you are. SAM I just wanna see what’s what. Better safe than sorry. DEAN All right, you little pervert.
can't resist an opportunity to bug sam about getting laid
DEAN Well, nobody knows, but nobody’s seen ‘em for a couple of millennia. I mean, summoning a demon that ancient? Someone really knows their stuff. I think we’ve got a major player in town. Now, why don’t you go give that girl a private strip-o-gram? SAM Bite me. DEAN No, bite her. Don’t leave teeth marks, though, I mean just enough to where—
invested and ready to give tips
i find the trope of women changing, half naked in the city in front of a window with no curtain at night with the light on so ridiculous. obviously meg here has an ulterior motive but it's so common of a trope i'm just annoyed about it anyway :p ESPECIALLY because they have to have sam get "caught" being a peeping tom by the lady on the street. man that reminds me of the very brief effort i made to try to watch You, and in the pilot the woman was jerking off on the couch in front of the window that's visible from the street. what???
i've been avoiding finishing this episode for weeks. decided i wasn't gonna do the recaps anymore, but then as soon as i start watching i'm bubbling over with commentary. 😔
i fear i might need to make gifs of sam climbing for my parkour! series. but it's just slowly climbing up an elevator shaft?? while noisily clanging the gates. not so slick, sam. not that it's not all a trap anyway but theoretically
and so we come to the conversation that made me lose my shit the first time i watched the show. other moments that upon rewatch were impactful didn't hit the same way as this one did for me the first time through. for the tags of my gifset go into why
like soon to be exes-the relationship is clearly over and one flaying themselves open showing their squishy insides trying to make it work but the other is gently shutting them down and saying it's over. wholly lost my shit about this. late enough in s1 where we know this is A LOT of (too much?) emotional vulnerability for dean but also way too early in any show's run to expect this level of emotional vulnerability and guts being strewn about. truly threw me for a loop. but it certainly set the stage for where they would go with sam and dean over the years. dean's little eyebrow raise to the “I'd do anything for you” and sad half smile “could be” just punch me in the gut. and that sweet open expression talking about being together and a family again. ugh. such a rarity to see that on him and sam's “i don't want them to be” absolutely crushing. in the kindest manner. but by the end dean's got his walls back up. oh my heart.
someone again reblogged someone's tags on my gifset today with the, they feel bad for the loneliness of s1 dean because it's the root of all the evil stuff he does to sam later and whew. i know there's camps of people that feel one of the brothers is the abuser and awful and the other is the victim but i just 100% don't vibe with that reading of the show at all. this fandom manages to have so many readings and opinions on this show that i vehemently don't agree with lol
oh hey, i painted this scene
MEG Not very quick on the uptake, are we? (She leans in closer.) This trap isn’t for you. SAM Dad. It’s a trap for Dad.
if i start to think too long about the long game this supposedly is playing into i start going cross eyed. trap dad, later they get dad to trade his soul for saving dean so he'll be in hell, they need sam alive to be lucifer's vessel.. they need someone to kick off the apocalypse in hell by the righteous man giving in to torturing and they couldn't get dad to do it so they went with dean? 🥴
i don't have anything of worth to say about this scene with meg rubbing up on sam while they're tied up other than i don't like it because it's bog standard ridiculous villain behavior :p
alas john shows up and i want to punch him in his little smiling face :P
JOHN It knows I’m close. It knows I’m gonna kill it. Not just exorcise it or send it back to hell—actually kill it. DEAN How? JOHN I’m workin’ on that.
does he send them off to find the colt? must be, i don't remember. anyway just tell them SOMETHING. good grief. man refuses to give any details. also jdm is a good actor but i hate some of his choices for john. too much smiling to go with the asshole character he's playing :p
SAM Let us come with you. We’ll help. (DEAN gives SAM a warning look.) JOHN No, Sam. Not yet. Just try to understand. This demon is a scary son of a bitch. I don’t want you caught in a crossfire. I don’t want you hurt.
dear transcriber, i beg to differ on that being a warning look. i'm not sure what exactly it is, but it's lingering longer than i'd anticipate
JOHN It’s good to see you again. It’s been a long time. SAM Too long.
like whyyy couldn't he have reconciled with him when he was checking up on him at stanford (so we could have this tearful reunion on screen, of course!) i will always be a john hater :p it's probably one thing i know i lose my objectivity about and will find fault in anything the show does with him
DEAN Wait, wait, wait! Sam, wait. Dad, you can’t come with us. SAM What? What are you talkin’ about? JOHN You boys—you’re beat to hell. DEAN We’ll be all right. SAM Dean, we should stick together. We’ll go after those demons— DEAN Sam! Listen to me! We almost got Dad killed in there. Don’t you understand? They’re not gonna stop. They’re gonna try again. They’re gonna use us to get to him. I mean, Meg was right. Dad’s vulnerable when he’s with us. He—he’s stronger without us around. SAM Dad--no. (He puts a hand on his father’s shoulder. DEAN watches sadly.) After everything-- after all the time we spent lookin’ for you—please. I gotta be a part of this fight. JOHN Sammy, this fight is just starting. And we are all gonna have a part to play. For now, you’ve got to trust me, son. Okay, you’ve gotta let me go.
i understand there were scheduling conflicts/not having john be a larger role etc but the reasoning doesn't make a lot of sense to me. i think the demons could use the boys against john with them together or not. even the first time through i always thought it sounded like the limpest excuse, where we're all gonna pretend it's serious and he's right but it honestly always felt like nonsense to me. but whatever! i'm always glad to see john in the rearview :p
i also painted this scene! it was my first spn painting, in fact
thought we had the mushy music theme there for a second but nope. so far the earliest appearance i've seen is 2x1, we'll see if it pops up in s1 at all
again i didn't give padalecki enough credit for his acting in quiet emotional scenes this early in the series, he really is already very good at it
when i was painting that scene i just kept having to schooch them in closer, they are really close. well, i could have gotten a shot where they're even closer!
all right, finally done with that. yeesh

yakuza 3 (sort of) done! thoughts under the cut cos they got quite long. they're a lot more coherent than my kiwami 2 ones cos i made them along the way rather than in a feverish mess at the end, though ofc they contain spoilers for 3 and ig gaiden??
overall thoughts, it's messy and weird and makes some Choices, but it's not a bad game, and the people who write it off as being shit are, imho, wrong. once i got into it i liked it, it introduced some great characters, had some really fun moments, and i'm gonna miss the morning glory kids (yes even riona).
if you're looking at this like when did you change the difficulty??? the bit where you have to run away from the police at millenium tower, fuck that bit so hard, none of the other chases gave me trouble but that one ughhhhh
also i neglected haruka i'm sorry
the combat is harder and more tedious, and i can see why it puts people off, but i find pulling off the combos and counters way more satisfying as a result. like, i tiger dropped lau ka long to finish that fight and it felt *so* good, way more than ending fights with heat actions or whatever has done in previous games. having said that the blocking oh jesus christ the BLOCKING
it’s the place we get the most on kashiwagi pre-y0 especially kiryu’s opinion of him (including the iconic lines about reimen) so you can’t knock it for that.
rikiya buddy i love you but wtf was that substory with natsumi. actually why is he suddenly a dick in all of his side content???? (i know he’s confrontational and that’s just how he is but idk, smth about how he is in the side content feels different). he’s rude to utabori to his face (despite kiryu repeatedly telling him not to), when he meets natsumi again he’s like yo i kept this necklace why are you in tokyo you don’t fit in here come back to okinawa with me, like ????? she clearly has a life she’s built up there (not a good one, i don’t think, but still) and they might have known each other when they were kids but we never get her side of the story on that, only rikiya’s. idk. it’s one of the first things he says to her, that’s a neon red flag if ever i’ve seen one.
also also during that entire scene in asia, kiryu watches rikiya’s reaction to the dancing the *entire* time. is that a bug of how conversations work or was that a deliberate choice or what
MACK buddy why aren't you in this game more
we had a second majima-no-nii-san! from hamazaki of all people! tho having said that i think he was being sardonic. like, he never says it again, and is generally kind of like that. he’ll use polite forms but he’s never being *polite*. lowkey obsessed with his hand on majima’s shoulder in that scene and what it says about his character and their relationship up to that point and how majima has ended up in this kind of position *again*. kiryu leaving - as it always does - fucked so many people over it’s not even funny.
some of the translations bother me. as an english script it’s for the most part pretty coherent and works well enough on its own, but in combination with the japanese it sometimes deviates in ways that change character moments or even just feel weird. like the addition of the puns in the seven mysteries substories is fun, very ace attorney, but sometimes it feels like they step too far (‘getting tight in your britches!’ for ビビった like ???? even ignoring the japanese what is that supposed to meannnnn)
specific moments i was thinking of were the really early line where taichi is like 晩ごはんまだぁ? and they add in an unnecessary ‘i thought curry was supposed to be easy!’ in the english which then undermines later when they all sit down to eat and are like カレーだ! like they didn’t actually know what was for dinner. another one is when kiryu leaves rikiya behind in okinawa and tells haruka that he can’t let him come (in various ways, three times). in the english they shake it up a bit by adding ‘it’s my burden to bear’ WHICH i’ll fully admit flows better and is a very kiryu thing to say but i think it shifts the tone of that scene from worry to responsibility? in a way that doesn’t feel quite right in context of the story as a whole. last one where mine calls kiryu a coward when he’s leaving after showing whatever was left of kanda in that box. again, it flows better and lines up with kiryu’s behaviour in later games but doesn’t feel quite right and i think it changes the point mine was trying to make there. there's also the minefield about how mine expresses his feelings about daigo right at the end. BUT i’m a learner this isn’t my job what do i know. they worked hard and faults aside it’s a fun read and they also had to deal with that fuck-awful section of exposition from the politician so no blame here. it’s not like the other games don’t have this, it just feels especially weird in this one to me.
i loved the little wrestling bit. it’s not perfect but it has the kind of heart and good intentions that makes those sections (and yakuza 3 as a whole) really enjoyable for me.
objectively very funny that the text you get congratulating you on all the revelations is from kaoru, and that she’s like hey your blog was very funny, go see my friend bob utsunomiya for your reward. i know it’s mostly game mechanics to make it make sense but is it not the funniest thing to imagine a. that kaoru knows a bob utsunomiya (how did they meet??? why???) and b. that on her breaks between Mystery Police Stuff she’s refreshing kiryu’s blog like what dumb shit is this idiot up to now asdfghjkl tbf his blog can’t be hard to find, it’s literally ‘day in the life of the dragon of dojima’ it’s a miracle he gets anything done ever with how bad he is at being on the downlow
standing on the morning glory beach, especially in the evening/at night and looking up at the sky while listening to the waves roll in is so calming, the first time i got to do it i stayed there for like ten minutes just chilling
some of the animation is genuinely really really good, like saki’s eyes shaking in fear or kiryu’s cheek twitch when he finds out about morning glory, or mine on finding out daigo's alive. idk how much is the work of the remaster and how much was originally there but i really like it
the last three chapters are such whiplash cos it’s like sad, sad, very sad, bulls! sad, very very sad, sad, jet! thumbs up! sad, sad, ANGRY, there is no change in the plan, sad, sad, on the roof, sad, sad, MACHO, things are gonna be fine! oh wait sad sa- please mr richardson they’re trying to have a moment -d sad sad surprise! murder! surprise! alive! done. you know?
idk if i was just hormonal or emotional but saki calling out to nakahara really got to me for some reason. her first word after years of silence was ‘dad’, and that hit me in a way i wasn’t expecting even tho i knew it was coming.
show us the akimoto/mizuki kiss, cowards
that last section was really fun to play for me (aside from that first little bit going up the first couple of floors of the hospital), the music’s great, the combat had (mostly) good pacing, the fights felt challenging in a good way, yeah i was all for it! reinforced for me how much i like mine as a character and wish we’d got to see more of him (but hey, look, if andre richardson survived the fall...?). like, the moment he realises daigo is still alive - and that he was about to kill the man he love- ahem sorry admired, so much - is seared into my brain.
#text#me#ryu ga gotoku#yakuza 3#probably my lowest completion percentage on finishing the main story in an rgg game#but i've honestly not done a whole lot of the side content so that makes sense#i've not done any coliseum matches at all#plus there's the hostesses and the reapers (i've done most of those tho) and some substories i missed#am i doing all of that no absolutely not#but i won't be moving onto 4 for a bit yet#also sorry the picture isn't straight that's just how it is#not queued

Today I learned...
...what Y2K is. I know. How is it possible that today is my first time hearing that term? Either I've heard it before and somehow filtered it out of my brain, or I genuinely heard it for the first time while watching a random video about a Korean mom learning how to style her Blasian kid's hair.
A lady in the video mentioned that the current hair trend was Y2K. So, of course, my brain went ??? and I just had to look into it... and this is what I found out:
Y2K is also called the Year 2000 problem, Y2K scare, Millenium Bug, Y2K glitch, Y2K error, etc., and although it refers to the year 2000, it technically spans the years of 1997-2005. (The letter K, which stands for kilo (a unit of 1000), is commonly used to represent the number 1,000. So, Y2K stands for Year 2000.)
I'll summarize what I learned so you don't have to go down the same rabbit hole I went down (no surprise there):
So there are two sides to Y2K: tech and culture.
The tech side is what gave Y2K its namesake. There apparently was this widespread fear that computers would misinterpret "00" as 1900 when calendar systems updated from 1999 to 2000, causing all sorts of chaos. Imagine bank systems crashing, planes malfunctioning—the works. Thankfully, that didn't happen, but it apparently had people on edge... hence, the Y2K scare.
Honestly, Y2K is really just what we typically think of when we think of "early 2000s fashion." Think of it as a blend of "The Matrix" and early Britney Spears. Metallics, futuristic elements, low-rise jeans, and bold colors.
...and apparently, Y2K fashion is making a comeback. I don't know who to blame. Maybe the new Barbie movie?
People have mixed feelings regarding Y2K's cultural revival. There's concern that Y2K fashion will also bring back "skinny obsession" and rewind progress on body positivity. I won't go into a deep dive on the topic in this post (although I could do an entire analysis if asked). So for now, I'll leave it at that! 💫 __________
Some discussion questions to consider! What do you think about Y2K fashion? Regardless of cultural implications, do you like or dislike the aesthetic?
Does the resurgence of Y2K fashion carry with it any cultural or social baggage/implications?
How does the Y2K revival intersect with the body positivity movement? Should fashion trends be mindful of social issues like body positivity, or should they evolve independently? And, of course... Have you been influenced—knowingly or unknowingly—by the Y2K trend?

Still stumped about the dating in "Worst Witch" (1998):
So, with the original show, one would assume that it took place from 1998 to 2001. And, had the show gones with the last two years (according to the wiki, there's 5 years of being in Cackle's Academy: https://theworstwitch.fandom.com/wiki/Miss_Cackle%27s_Academy_for_Witches#cite_note-2 ), of Mildred's time, the show would've gone on until 2003.
However, there is "Weirdsister College" to consider. And...it brings up a lot of questions...
According to the wiki, Cackle's students age from 11-16 which makes me wonder as to when they start college. Would there be a gap year and they'll be admitted at 17 or would they still be 16 and go to college straight away? How does it work? Just how old are the first-years supposed to be?
For one, the show never states if the show is set in the future (would it have been too sci-fi for the show?). As a matter of fact, it looks exactly like the 2001-the time "Weirdsister" was set.
And then there's Professor Shakeshaft-an elderly wizard who's lived a long time thanks to the his own Elixir Of Life (you'd think he knew Nicolas Flamel?). In "Shaky Foundations", Shakeshaft is stated to have been in his twenties during 1452. Making his current age to be about 570 according to Mildred.
So: 2001-570=1431-1452= 21.
Yet...2003-570=1433-1452=19.
19 doesn't count as being in the twenties...does it?
Then there's the to the wiki:
It said that the elixir made him going for 537 years. Yet...1452+537=1989...
Not to mention, there's the "Millenium Bug" which brings up Cackle's 1,000th anniversary and with the episode being in 2000, it seemed to have involved the turn of the millenium.
There's also the pop-culture references at late 90's-early 2000's; the hair, the clothes, the music (as seen in episodes like "Cinderella In Boots").

I'm thinking Evenground is around 20-24. If I want this to take place sometime between now and up to 4 years ago, and it was in the hospital for Harvey either close to adulthood or as an adult, that's what makes sense to me.
Gale on the other hand, I'm thinking 17. Almost a legal adult, but not there yet. I could potentially drop to 16 if I wanted, but I'm not moving up to 18. Maybe the cusp of 18, I suppose? I could see some places to go from there.
Everyone else I'm uncertain on.
Unrelated to age, I've decided there were more than seven Millennium Prize Problems. If you're wondering why, its cause I need the team to be able to afford their gear and the funniest way to do that in my opinion is to have Apophenia have solved "one of the Millenium Problems;" and the best way I can think to do that is for there to be like 2 or 3 times as many. I dont want to specify and be like yeah this is my OC Apophenia she provided a proof for the Riemann hypothesis.
However
It would be very funny for her to be like "yeah theres a pattern to the primes. I can't see exactly what the pattern is, but there is a pattern."
Apophenia is my favorite can you tell
Ultimately her power is advanced pattern recognition. This shines best in cross-discipline technology because there's a greater basis to see where patterns do and do not hold. Her power rarely tells her what specifically a pattern is off the bat, but the utility isn't in being told off the bat.
The utility is being able to see whether or not she's looking in the right direction, and having the experience to work with that information. It means she usually doesn't even need the power to tell her, she'll figure it out before long.
It's also really helpful for trial and error :D turns out coding gets easier when you have a power telling you you're looking at the wrong variable(s) or line(s) of code to fix your bug, as those aren't part of the pattern you're looking at.

Chasing Memories Worldbuilding Part 1
SO! Let's get the mundane worldbuilding out of the way.
First up, Ninjago's age of majority. Chasing Memories is a much more realistic take on the show, and realistically the Ninja wouldn't be able to do half of the crap they do if they were legally minors the entire time. Regardless of how powerful Wu is he still has to obey the law.
Base age of majority, where people are considered a legal adult, is 16 human years, as is the age of consent. Minimum drinking age and minimum smoking age are 18. Now, I specify human years here because there are a handful of non-human characters in my AU that age at different rates than humans. So when I say "human years" I mean they have to be the biological equivalent of a 16-year-old human to be considered a legal adult.
Now, obviously this means the only legal adults out of the Ninja at first are Zane and Kai, as stated in a previous post stating their birthdates and ages. Which means the minors of the group (Cole, Jay, and Nya) are under their supervision when the other adults (Garmadon, Wu, and Misako) are not around.
Let me reiterate, ZANE AND KAI ARE THE ONES IN CHARGE OF THE NINJA, both in costume and out. They are the adults. They're basically the older siblings when the parents aren't home.
It kind of bugged me growing up that Zane wasn't the one in charge, it always seemed to switch between Kai, Cole, and later Lloyd (which honestly made the least sense; yeah he's the chosen one but he's like 8 why is he in charge of the older more experienced Ninja?) so this time I'm going with seniority rules as Zane is the oldest and also the first Ninja Wu recruited.
Next up, NO Ninjago is NOT a monarchy of any kind. That plot point made no sense to me no matter how much I rewatched season 8. Why was it never mentioned? I even based my entire freshman year debate essay on why it was a bad idea to just add that in without warning.
CM!Ninjago is a democracy, plain and simple. I took inspiration from the United States (my home country), Canada, and the UK with how its government works.
There's an elected president that sits for a 6-year term and they can only have 2 consecutive terms. The first president was elected back in the 4th century (shocker, a government system that lasts over a millenium and a half), and the current president during the time of CM Origins is a man named Terrence Wong, who was elected for his second term in 2006 AC.
The education system is kinda a combination of the American, British, and Japanese systems (that last one because I like how it's structured in anime), so we have kindergarten (starts age 4), primary school (ages 5-10), and secondary school (ages 11-16), with 2-year "high school" being optional.
Jay is a fourth-year secondary student at Southside Junior High in Ninjago City, but he does his schooling remotely as it was Edna's condition for him to train with Wu. It's actually summer break when Kai comes along as school ends June 25th and starts September 1st.
Cole's been homeschooled during his time in the circus (as he can't exactly enroll in normal school as a runaway) but since coming to the Monastery he studies alongside Jay (who gets copies of all his assignments to give Cole) and Nya (who also starts remote schooling with Jay, just under a different, closer school to the Monastery).
Kai only completed his mandatory schooling, then started working as a farmhand full time until Wu came along. Also, Kai has legal custody of Nya... aaaat least until the Skulkin show up, wreck house, and kidnap her, which leads the blame to fall on Kai as there's a probationary period on custody arrangements.
Kai only got custody of Nya on his 16th birthday, which was in July of 2009. Because Kai only filed to FOSTER Nya and not adopt her, they were given a probationary period of 15 months to basically make sure Kai didn't screw up. The Skulkin attack happened when there were 2 months left on the probationary period, so after Nya gets rescued she gets taken away AGAIN, this time by social services.
So what does out intrepid 19-year-old former guidance counsellor Zane do? He accidentally stumbles across Nya in town being bullied by some of the other girls in the group home she was placed in, rescues her, and has her take him to said group home where he files to take Nya in; turns out Glenn pulled some strings and got him a valid foster license for emergencies before he left Feren.

The abridged version is Deimos is infested and a dude went back in time. Meanwhile Ballas came back, Lotus is actually Natah or Margulis or Lotus. She's 3 in 1.
Ballas kills us but we get better, an adult version of us escapes a traumatised childs safe space realm after traumatising them, a homeless grineer set up camp in our front garden, Teshin was almost killed but now libes in a cave, Stalker Fucked and had a kid, and now we are waiting for the update where we go back in time to fight an infested boyband to prevent the millenium bug. There will also be optional sms dating sim elements with a group called the Hex who are protoframes
i havent played warframe in yrs what the hell is going on

#349: most computers store the time and date as the number of seconds since the 1st of january 1970. however, since they are stored as signed 32 digit binary numbers, it means that they will run out eventually. so at 14 past 3 in the morning on the 19th of january 2038, the time will become midnight on the first of january 1970. i mean pi oclock, im staying up for that.
what most people have just decided to do is double the size of that number to a 64 bit number. that means doomsday (millenium bug #3) will happen on the 4th of december 292277026569. which is a sunday. the moon will have also flown out of its orbit by then.

Hello! I read TPOFATGIF for the first time this week after binge reading your lore posts, and I have a lore question. I get that the home of the main case is a Japan/America amalgamation similar to that of Big Hero 6, but is there any lore reason as to why its like that? Were Japan and America separate places in this world and then fused later or has it always been like this?
I wrote them in a place that is both Japan and California at the same time because of the Animaniacs.
For some additional context, for me, my first exposure to Yugioh was the infamous 4Kids Dub on Kids!WB whch was... weird, to say the least.
YuGiOh was one of the first anime-anime they showed on that network, after Pokemon, and the first cartoon series I recall that had a specific airdate order- everything before then had been episodic in the sense that it didn't really matter what order the season's episodes were shown in- it didn't matter who Batman fought last week, this week he was on another case. Pokemon did reference previous episodes, but was so full of random filler and side-adventures that it didn't really matter when WB showed the first season out of order. One staruday Ash just had a Charmander now and we just rolled with that.
But Yugioh started off with "Previously On Yugioh" flashbacks that really only made sense if you'd seen the previous episode, and as calvinball as the games were, they did have like. A Turn Order that you had to follow consistently, and it was the first time my 5th-grade self had ever seen a show with a sesonal plot and I was BUCKWILD about it.
At the same time, this was still a very Transitional period for KidsWB, going from a lot of cartoons that were produced in-house to a lot of cartoons produced in independent studios or in Japan. One of the most famous In-House cartoons, that was still (barely) running in 2000 when YGO hit, was the cartoon that built the KidsWB Brand: Animaniacs. The Animaniacs, for those of you that were only born this millenium, were a trio of... creatures. The Warner Brothers, Yakko Warner and Wakko Warner, and their sister, Dot who would escape from the water tower where they were lcked up last week, to cause mayhem and make remarkably sharp and adult satirical jokes about current events, until they were caught and locked back up until next week. It was directed by steven speilberg and it was fucking wild.
But a peculiar precept of the Animaniacs universe was that they explicitly, in the canon of their show, lived in the water tower on the Real Life Warner Movie Studios Lot, in Real Life Burbank, CA. The backgrounds were frequently traced photographs of the IRL Studio and surrounding hollywood landmarks. In addition to the show, the Studio also made "Bumps" or micro-episdodes that were like, 30 seconds long, for when the commericals didn't quite fill out the whole half hour. In those, the Animaniacs made jokes like they were actors employed by the studio, playing the role of the Animaniacs, and would complain about the on-site parking or the latest contracts, a meta-joke that goes clean back to the Looney Tunes in the 1950's and probably farther. Bugs and Daffy were there too, threatening to go on strike, but the Animaniacs combined that meta joke with their canon of living on-site to like. Complain about traffic on specific roads in Brubank.
...and then when KidsWB started accepting cartoons from other studios, they KEPT doing those Meta Bumps. Batman and Daffy comisserated about the difficultly of keeping thier black suits black over a cup of coffee. Omi of Xaolin Showdown and Riccochet of Lucha Libre compared the relative amount of workman's comp they were owed for thier stunts behind one of the sets. When Yugioh joined the network, it's characters were also added to the bumps.
One particular bump stood out to me, and unfortunately I haven't ever found a recording of it, but characters were complaining about commute times to work. The Animaniacs kicked off with not understanding how everyone was late to shooting, Come on guys, we're PROFESSIONALS. Uncle from Jackie Chan Adventures told them off- they lived on site, he had to commute all the way from San Francisco's Chinatown! That's nothing, groans Batman, Do you have any idea how much he spends in Batfuel for the Batjet commuting in from Gotham. Chinatown? laughs Omi, try commuting from actual China! Yugi walks in and asks what's going on, and someone asks him how long it takes him to get to work.
"Oh, I just walk over after school." Yugi says, and there is a cut to the expanded scenery with Warner Brothers Studio on one side of the street, and Domino High School on the other side of the street. "It's a good thing school is so close." he adds. "I have to spend like four hours in special FX and makeup to get my hair to do this! If I had to commute, we'd never have time to shoot!"
... And that joke-within-a-joke Micro-universe, that takes place in twelve different cartoon shows and IRL Burbank California, just an hour south of where my grandparents lived, that peculiar metaverse where my childhood nostalgia lives, is the universe where TPOFATGIF takes place. It's in IRL late 90's/early 00's California, because I lived in California in the late 90's and early 00's and that's the context I first experienced YGO in. It's in the IRL parts of Tokyo that Takahashi-sensei put into his Magnum opus. It's in a universe that contain's both Gotham City and Uncle's Antiques. It's Big Hero Six's San Fransokyo, and Ace Attorney's Japanifornia.
But that wasn't actually the question you asked.
Please consider: Tea and Bakura were both born on "Leap Days"- days when the calendar can't be reliably measured, where day repeat or blend together. Mako's dad is lost in the South Pacific Triange, a mysterious place where you can sail east all day and end up west of where you started. Tristan's dad has a job that is basically being a supplier to D&D Adventuerers.
But as far as everyone knows, it's always been like this. Sometimes there are extra days, or wormholes, or monsters. Reality is just like that, as far as anyone can remember.
But.
Not everyone remembers, do they? Mahad knows his king by his face but not how he came to be the Dark Magician, just that he is. Neither Shadi knew where the Millenium Puzzle was until very recently, which seems a odd for the Guardian(s) of the Millenium items. The Spirit of the Ring has memories upon memories upon memories, but neither he nor Yami can even remember their names. in fact, nobody theoretically old enough to remember what happened 5,000 years ago actually remembers.
I wonder what that's all about? :)

Or to elaborate on this a little more- the show is set in an alternate history where a slightly-delayed YK2 bug of some stripe knocked the world on its ass circa 2002. And my first impression was that they were sort of following the leader on TLOU, in the sense of moving the timeline around so that the "present" of the setting would be contemporaneous with the year of the show's release. But the thing is that the show being set in the middle of a world that stopped culturally in 2002 is actually really on point because the original Twisted Metal games, or at least what I remember of them, were very much of that time- characters and a crass sense of humor very at home in the late-90s early oughts. Needles "Sweet Tooth" Kane is a very turn-of-the-millenium Top-Cow-Dark-Horse 2edgy4me kind of character. Granny Dread is, in her presentation and background, a very turn-of-the-century-suburban presentation of a little old lady, the beemer, the glasses, the frequent flyer membership. Amber is an early-2000s kinda granola hippy. The big bad is an ACAB spin on Paul Blart. We see the world end when everyone's at the Mall in the middle of a teen movie, backed by "Steal My Sunshine" by Len. And from there the series is also sort of inherently in conversation with the consumerism of that moment, right, with a protagonist who busts his ass to deliver goods ranging from the vital to the frivolous to walled enclaves, stuff like Crayola crayons being used for barter. Feels like much more is being done with the ruins of that specific moment.
Twisted Metal is gesturing at the submerged outline of a nascent oughtspunk aesthetic
