When he first met you, he was rather surprised at how calm and collected you seemed even though you literally just fell out of the sky

As time went on, he stumbled across you wielding a blade at one of the training sessions

You were effortlessly defeating all the soldiers with the blade you held, not even breaking a sweat

After watching that interesting scene, his curiosity was piqued and he approached you, questioning how you learned those tricks

You stayed silent as you looked at him before looking away, telling him you'd rather not talk about it

Ray respected your wishes and instead continued to try and get closer to you

You eventually started to warm up to him with his gentle yet cheeky behavior, and started to open your heart to him little by little

It was late one evening, and you sat outside at the courtyard, memories flashing through your mind when Ray approached you.

You slowly spilled your background; how 3 men intruded upon your house, killing both of your parents and kidnapping you. They planned to sell you off to the slave trade. Luckily you were saved, but there was no home for you to go to…

Ray listened to you, laying a comforting hand on your back. It must've been hard to see your own parents die in front of you.

When you finished, he pulled you into a comforting hug and provided comforting words

He told you that the black army will welcome you with open arms and that this can be your new home with a gentle smile

You stayed silent before murmuring a quiet thank you and holding him tighter

Sirius Oswald

He was quick to notice something about you; how calm and collected you seem and how you seemed to be very skilled

His suspicions were proven to be correct when he spot you participating in a training exercise wielding a blade

He watched at how precise and quick your actions were as if you've done this million times before

He approached you and complimented you on your skill

He asked how you learned and all you said was "I learned from soldiers, if I hadn't I would be dead." 

He was rather surprised at your response but you left before he could ask more. It seemed to be a sensitive topic for you so he opted to not bother you with more questions 

With your impulsive behavior, Sirius had to stop you multiple times before you could put yourself in harms way and often scolded you although you never really listened

As you two got closer, you would spill bits of your past here and there but it wasn't until late one night that you told the full story 

Sirius was shocked to hear your story and provided comforting words and hugs for you

His role as a mother hen basically took on a whole new meaning after that, essentially becoming a parent for you

It was nice to feel love similar to the love from parents again

Lancelot Kingsley

He doesn't think much of your personality and how you act at first 

It's not until he sees you sparring with some red army soldiers that did the bad thing of challenging you

You were effortlessly beating them with only your fists and movements, finishing the fight with kicking out their legs from beneath them

He was rather impressed, not only by your talent but by how you remained calm the whole entire time

He decided to keep a closer eye on you yet from a distance

You noticed this and was wondering why he was watching you. So that you wouldn't escape? It was curious and you decided to ask him one day

He didn't state his true intentions, instead saying that you're under his watch so he must watch you carefully

Obviously you didn't believe the lie but you let it be 

You two would have many strange encounters as both of your curiosity about the other grew

It would take quite a while for him to gain your trust and vise versa and it will probably take until after the magic tower is defeated for you to trust him

But once you two do trust each other, you will tell him of your past when it's just you two

He will listen and he won't interrupt you. He'll applaud you on being strong enough to continue and he can sympathize with losing both of your parents, albeit you having a much more rougher experience

He's not very sure how to comfort you, but if you need a hug, he'll be willing to give it to you, although it's be rather awkward

After that, he'll always be willing to listen to your troubles and offers comforting hugs and such. ~~he may also let you cuddle up in his cape~~

Edgar Bright

Like Sirius, he was rather quick at picking up your hidden skills and such 

Although to him your personality was rather boring but it did remind him slightly of Zero

Once he saw your skills in action though, he was impressed and questioned what other secrets you could be hiding

Your calm gaze didn't reveal anything and he sighed dramatically

To you, his flirty, yet shady personality was interesting but it did annoy you slightly although you never showed it did

Your guys' relationship will be rather interesting since it's mostly just Edgar trying to get a reaction out of you

Once he does, he will be rather proud of himself and will continue to try and get a reaction a few more times

As for you, you just try and ignore him a lot of times although you do find yourself starting to warm up to him

It will be hard for Edgar to gain your trust but he works hard to achieve it

It will be during a picnic with the Creek family that you tell him of your past

He doesn't show much emotion as you tell it but he's listening

Edgar will think of you as strong for being able to endure that and will sympathize with you

He's not very good at comforting someone so he tries his best to comfort you, whether that be with hugs or by telling you amusing stories

He may also tell you that him and the Creek Family will become your new family :>

The next morning you sat listening to Adam harass the ever loving shit out of you about breaking up with Gabriel. You had heard everything from “you are not an angel” to “he’s going to kill you” and then some. 

“Y/n! Are you even listening to me?”

You looked up from the bowl of cereal that you were pretending to eat. Adam sat across from you giving you the biggest bitch face imaginable. Putting down your spoon, you faced your brother fully.

“No, not really because I am not ending things with Gabriel. You made some good points. I’ll give you that. You would be better off going to talk to a rock...or the wall.”

Adam muttered fuck under his breath.

“I don’t get it, Y/n! Could you not fall in love with someone of your own species?”

You chuckled before standing up to walk into the kitchen

“If I only had a dollar for every time that I have been asked that.” 

Adam jumped up and chased after you. He was not about to let this go! So what if you were the archangel’s soulmate or whatever; you were Adam’s sister first!  

“I’m not playing, Y/n!” 

You put your bowl in the sink before spinning around. 

“I’m not playing either, Adam. You are not about to start telling me what to do. I am glad that you are back and all but I don’t do what my brothers tell me like some good little Suzy Q Sunshine! I love Gabriel and that is how it's going to be...GOT ME?”

You yelled the last two words a little more loudly than necessary but who the fuck cared? Before Adam could respond, Jack stepped into the kitchen. He gave you his usual cheerful smile. Internally, you sighed. Why did the kid have to remind you so much of Gabriel? 

What a fucking gene pool…

Your mind supplied before getting your head back into the game.

“Hey, Jack.” 

He smiled.

“Hi! So I was doing some thinking. I know that you have been working really hard at fixing Gabriel. I may be onto something...Why don’t we go track down Raphael or Michael and make them fix Gabriel.” 

Adam’s disgusted expression went to horror as you clearly considered the nephilim’s words. 

“That might just work.”

You said. Adam shook his head. 

“How the hell are you going to make an archangel do what you want them to? You are going to get yourself killed!”

You shook your head. Jack’s idea may be a little harebrained and out there but anything was worth a shot. 

“I have some great powers of persuasion.” 

You said, not bothering to look at your brother. 

“Get my archangel blade, Jack and be ready to go in five minutes.” 

Adam was ready to burn the world down! This had to be the stupidest most insane thing that you had ever...EVER...come up with! 

“I am not about to let you go track down some archangel and watch him kill you because you want some guy back.” 

You stopped in the doorway before slowly turning to face Adam with a clearly annoyed expression.

“He isn’t just some guy to me. He’s everything to me. You can come along if you want but you aren’t going to stop me. Dean? Sam?”

You turned away from Adam before walking into the “Dean Cave.” Both of your older brothers looked up at the mention of their names. 

“You called, sunshine?”

Dean asked. You smirked. This was not going to be a pretty conversation but it had to be done. 

“I’m going to find Raphael.”

Neither Sam nor Dean spoke for a moment. They looked at each other, clearly trying to take in what you just said. Dean stood holding a hand up. 

“Excuse me, did you just say that you were going to find Raphael?” 

You nodded and went to the closet to take out your revolver. 

“Yep, you heard me right. Jack has this brilliant idea if I go and threaten him real good I may just get my way.” 

Adam met Dean’s worried gaze.

“I had nothing to do with this. I told her that it was crazy but she only has her mind fixing that archangel on her mind.” 

Dean met Adam’s gaze for a few moments before turning to you. 

“Do you think it will work?”

You shrugged.

“I am going to do everything that I can do to help him. Don’t even waste your time trying to talk me out of it. I just told Adam the exact same thing.” 

Dean snorted. He knew that trying to talk you out of whatever you had planned was going to work as well as stabbing someone and telling them not to bleed.

“What do you want me to do?”

You turned back to your brother. This was the last thing that you had expected Dean to say.You had honestly expected him to say something like Adam did. Maybe he was finally getting the picture that him bossing you around wasn’t going to shit. 

“I want you and Sam to stay here and keep an eye on Gabriel. He won’t be much trouble.”

Dean snorted. 

“All he does is sit and stare at the wall. I honestly forget that he’s there most of the time.” 

You sighed. 

“Just keep an eye on him.” 

Dean pointed to the door. 

“Go tell him that you are leaving. The last thing that I want to deal with is him panicking because you got out of his line of sight.” 

You nodded and moved to go to the door. Adam’s eyes met yours. The two of you stared at each other for a moment. 

“Time to pick a side.”

You muttered before walking down the hall to your room. 

Stepping into your bedroom, you sighed looking at Gabriel. He sat, as he always did, looking off into the blissful realms of nowhere. He didn’t look up when you stepped in. You walked to the bed and sat down. 

“Gabriel?”

His eyes quickly snapped to you. He watched you carefully as you tried to scoot closer. 

“I am going away for a bit. I won’t be gone long. This time I’m fixing everything.”

You stood as Gabriel shook his head frantically. He reached out to grab your hand. You didn’t move to get away from him. Instead you reached out and stroked your hand over his cheek. 

“I promise you, everything will be just fine.” 

Gabriel slowly let go of your hand but didn’t look away from your face. You sat quietly for a moment before speaking. 

“All of this will be just a bad memory. Hopefully, you won’t hate me for what I’m about to do.”

You met Gabriel’s eyes before leaning forward and pressing a kiss to his forehead. He slightly flinched before relaxed enough to enjoy the contact. You finally pulled away before turning and walking from the room

1 hour later, you stood inside of an old abandoned house. Jack stood behind you, clearly looking for any sign Raphael sneaking up on you. Adam, looking scared beyond all logical reason, was by your side. You glanced at your brother and fought the urge to roll your eyes. Something told you that if it came down to it Adam was going to wrap himself around your legs like a giant toddler. 

“Jack, is everything good to go?”

Jack nodded. 

“Oh yeah. I don’t mess around.” 

“Works for me.”

You muttered before turning back. 

“Raphael, you stupid son of a bitch. Did you think that you would never have to face me?”

You yelled. A few moments later, Raphael stepped out of the shadows. He looked at you with an annoyed expression. 

“Well well...if it isn’t Y/n Winchester. I was wondering when we would meet in person. I have a feeling what you are here for and my answer is no. My brother deserved what he got. He was foolish to think that he could love a human and not be punished. You are going to be punished too. An eternity in hell will be just fine for Michael and I.” 

You snorted. Oh the poor archangel was so wrong on that one. You weren't going anywhere you didn’t want to go. 

“I think you are wrong on that one. You are going to fix Gabriel then you are going to go suck an egg and die.” 

Raphael raised an eyebrow before giving an over dramatic sigh.

“Child, I find your...threats amusing. I, however, am not the least bit afraid of you.”

You met Jack’s gaze as he threw the lighter that he was holding down. The ring of fire erupted around Raphael. The archangel looked around slightly confused before turning his attention back to you. 

“What do you think is going to happen between Gabriel and yourself? Do you really see an outcome where the two of you will be happy? He’s an archangel and you are a lowly human. You are as close to scum as there is out there. Do you believe that my brother is going to stand by you for the rest of eternity? I know my brother, child. He will get bored with you just list he has everything else in his life.” 

You let Rapahel’s little dig roll off of your back. Had it not been the fact that you were telling yourself to keep it cool for Gabriel; you would have lost it. 

“That’s your opinion. I don’t know if you have ever heard this saying or not but opinions are like assholes.” 

Raphael scoffed. 

“You think that you're funny like your brother. I am not going to do a thing to help you.” 

You glanced at Jack as he handed you the archangel glade. Raphael’s cold expression quickly turned nervous. You raised an eyebrow. 

“Did I just detect a flicker of fear? I have made the great archangel Raphael scared of me...a lowly little human. Now here’s what we are going to do. You are going to fix Gabriel or I am going to sit on you and carve my initial into your forehead my little archangel blade. You will have to think of me every day for the rest of eternity.

Raphael looked at you momentarily. 

“Fine. I’ll fix my brother so I don’t have you to deal with for the rest of forever….but you're going to regret it. You know that Michael will see to that. I will also not forget this fun little festive greeting. When you get home, Gabriel will be good as new.” 

You nodded. 

“Too bad I don’t have an easy button to commemorate this moment”

Raphael scowled. You had to be one of the most annoying humans that he had ever met! It didn’t matter that you had clearly proven your loyalty to Gabriel. The relationship would never be accepted by Raphael or Michael. 

“Enjoy your freedom while you can. 

(meanwhile back at the bunker) 

Sam stood watching Dean attempt to make homemade cookies. When the poor darlings came out of the oven completely toasted, Sam sighed. 

“That’s it. You are banned from the kitchen, Dean. I am never going to get this cleaned up.” 

“Where is Y/n?”

Both Sam and Dean spun around to see Gabriel standing in the kitchen door. Dean sat down his ruined cookies before facing the archangel fully. 

“When did you start talking again?”

Gabriel frowned. He still looked rough as hell but was slowly beginning to look like the angel that he was.

“What are you talking about?”

Sam moved to join his brother. Neither he nor Dean said anything for a few moments. Gabriel stood looking between them before losing his patients. 

“Again, what are you two talking about and where is Y/n?!”

Sam decided that he was going to be the one to explain to Gabriel what had been happening.

“Raphael and Michael wiped your memory. You’ve been kind of out of it for the past few months.”

Dean snorted. 

“Kind of? That is a poor way to put it. You have been a drooling zombie like mess.” 

Gabriel’s confused expression darkened. He was silent for a few moments as he tried to remember what exactly happened between himself and his brothers but was drawing a blank. His last memory was telling you to stay in the bunker and that led to now.

“My brothers wiped my memory? That must be why I feel awful. So about Y/n….I would kind of like to see her.” 

Sam and Dean again exchanged looks. 

“She isn’t exactly here.”

Dean said calmly. Gabriel frowned. 

“What do you mean she isn’t here?”

The sense of panic quickly began to build inside of Gabriel. Were you okay? Had his idiot brothers gotten a hold of you? If they did, Gabriel would never forgive himself! He tried to calm himself. Gabriel knew that you were alive. He could still feel the bond between the two of you but that didn’t mean that you were...safe.

“She went with Jack and Adam to find Raphael and make him fix you.” 

Gabriel’s mouth dropped! You went after his brother! You went after one of the oldest beings in the universe! Gabriel had to repeat it in his mind a few times to make sure that he was hearing everything correctly. 

Why in the name of all things holy did you think that it was a good idea to go after an archangel? Gabriel put a hand over his face. This had to be the worst outcome ever! What were you going to do? Kick Raphael in the shins until he saw your way? That wasn’t going to happen!

Gabriel was close to losing whatever fragile grip on reality that he had. He had spent every day from the moment of your birth attempting to keep you safe. It couldn’t all be for nothing now! 

Dean stood watching Gabriel and decided to say something before the archangel destroyed the bunker. 

“Before you unravel a sweater, Jack is with her. He isn’t going to let anything happen to Y/n.” 

Gabriel scowled at Dean. 

“Well, that makes me feel so much better!”

Gabriel turned and walked to the couch and sat down in a huff. Dean gave Sam a shrug and went back into the kitchen. The last thing that he wanted to do was sit around and watch Gabriel brood. You would be back soon enough and would be able to calm Gabriel’s ass down a notch or two.

I’m back - time for another long rant.

I’m back from my holiday and as promised I’m going to reply to all your comments today! Not that it’s as exciting as I’m trying to make it sound but, well, I love your comments and I hate to just leave you with nothing.

First of all:

Yes, yes I am. That’s why the first villain was Sapkowski. Can’t stand the Witcher series [just a personal preference, I understand why many people love it, I just hate all of the characters and the constant gloominess. I need more variation and it’s hard to care what happens to the characters who you’d rather see dead].

I just hated on Sapkowski for all his gloominess, but here I am with part 2, where 90% of it is angst. Hypocrisy much? Definitely!

Page 42:

Forgive me for replying collectively but there’s a limit to the number of pictures you can put in a post.

Does Fyodor sound threatening? Yup. Can he get abusive? Yes. Will he, though? I was going to leave it unanswered for spoiler reasons but I realise that it could be triggering for some people if I jump with it out of nowhere so, spoiler, yes. He will. I’ll try to keep it to minimum, though. It’s mostly psychological abuse. Which is just as bad as physical abuse. And really, it’s bad.

As much as I like Fyoya, their relationship here is unhealthy, definitely at least dub-con and I cannot support that in any way. Believe me, I want Chuuya to get away from Fyodor in this story as much as any of you.

As for Dazai worrying for Chuuya - I wanted more of that. Way more. But this is Dazai, he wouldn’t let himself be so vulnerable in front of people. In the first draft I actually had him lose his composure earlier but it was so much OOC that in the end I had to change it. I hope it fits him better.

I’m glad you’re up to date and I hope you did well on your finals. Fingers crossed!

I’m also happy you enjoy the way this story is going. I always worry I make it too complicated  or that I dramatize too much but knowing that people like it anyway makes me more confident.

As for Dostoevsky, dear gods I love that characters but he’s definitely too much of a creep here.

Page 43:

Crying is actually very good for you and I’ll defend it especially in fiction. Though, I understand the feeling. You don’t want to see people you care about crying.

But, really, it’s good for Dazai. He let everything out and now he can think of a plan. And the situation is much more complicated than what was already explained. Fortunately, Dazai is the sharpest knife in the drawer and he knows that.

Also, the squad is huge! I just started working on the ‘resque’ part of the chapters and I have to minimize everything. We’re only going to see a tiny part of the operation.

And Dazai got that hug, Atsushi is the best boy, precious, protective baby.

Page 44:

Atsushi is the best, yes, we all agree.

To be honest, he’s the type of character that me from 5 years ago would absolutely hate. So many bad things happened to him, yet he’s still one of the gentlest souls in the canon. I would get bored immediately.

The me-now realises how precious these characters are and how little of them are actually well constructed and not killed off for the sole purpose of shock value. We must protect that kid!

I actually never shipped Dazai/Atsushi.

At first, before we got more Chuuya, I didn’t ship Dazai with anyone [not even Kunikida or Odasaku] and as for Atsushi it was Akutagawa from the start.

Later it was Kyouka but I hear some people view this as pedophilia. Okay, I get where that comes from, but for me they’re both still kids, and their relationship would be purely romantic. They both have many issues they need to overcome and I think they would be able to support each other nicely. Now, however, I’m very much inclined towards Atsushi/Lucy. And that says something since I can’t stand real Montgomery’s books and usually that impacts how much I like the character [looking at Poe here, my biggest love after Chuuya and Dazai, can’t find a logical way to put him in the story though].

Anyway, if anyone ships Dazai/Atsushi, feel free to do so! There’s plenty of accidental Dazatsu here! have fun! As far as I’m concerned you can ship anyone. [I’m wondering if anyone ships my OCs with anybody xd]

Chapter 5, cover and page 1:

Yes, we need something light and heartwarming. We need balance or at least some contrast.

The thing is I watch all these angsty AMVs on youtube [I practically have Take Me To Church, Wires and Glass Heart in every. single. randomly generated. youtube playlist. Sometimes I get Circus to mess things up]. And I watch them, and I sit there, tears in my eyes, thinking ‘I just want my babies to be happy! Why can’t they be happy?’. And then I sit to work on this story and they’re still not happy and this time it’s my fault. I’m a cruel person.

born on october 5th, 1999  ( this is literally a day before my bday ooc but anyway ajkdhsjdh )  in rochester, new york, blair’s first impression of the world was a crisp autumn day

she was her parents first and only child. her mother was an elementary school teacher, while her father worked at a nearby power plant in ontario

the family never made too much money, but they were able to get by, at least at first

she had a fairly happy childhood, though it was a lonely one. her father was always working odd hours, and with her mother gone during the day, she spent most of her time with a babysitter and the family golden retriever

eventually, she herself started going to school. she immediately excelled in the english department and fell in love with reading. blair realized early on how much she enjoyed escaping reality with a novel, immersing herself in a story so exciting compared to her dull life

almost everything was fine until her high school years. aside from the fact that she never had a present father figure, she was closer to her mom and still loved by both of her parents. however, when her high school years came around, her father lost his job

her father was the families main provider, and her mothers salary alone would not be enough to take care of the entire family. while he searched for another job, they had to give away the family golden retriever to one of blair’s aunts because they couldn’t afford the extra cost :(

on top of losing her beloved pet, the loss of her father’s job prompting the family to pick up and move their entire life

already in the midst of high school, blair had to leave her life as she knew it behind. the family moved to statesboro, georgia, and her father found a job at the nearby power plant

the transition to life in georgia was not easy for blair. though she didn’t exactly have trouble making friends, she didn’t feel like she could truly connect with anyone

once again, blair turned to losing herself in a book to pass the time

shortly after the move to georgia, her parents experienced some difficulties within their marriage. they ended up separating, and blair spent the remainder of her high school years living with each of them for half of the time

she did not mind her parents separating, as she knew it was for the best. however, her father found a girlfriend fairly quickly, and blair would eventually find out her father had been having an affair

her father spent most of his free time with his new girlfriend and her family. blair was upset at how he prioritized his the new people in his life over her when he was barely ever around for her growing up

meanwhile, her mother was having trouble adjusting to being alone, so she moved back to new york to live with her sister

blair stayed behind in georgia to finish high school, but knew she wanted to go elsewhere for college. she wanted to get as far away from her father and his new life as possible

once blair turned eighteen, she began to sell pictures for money. she wanted to earn as much as possible so she could afford to go away for university. she created an alias and began to sell pictures and videos of her feet. eventually, she expanded her horizons once she realized how much money she could earn

she never went as far as sleeping with her clients, but she would go on dates with them and spend the days with them to earn more money ( kind of like ludovica/chiara in the italian show baby on netflix minus sleeping w them )

she dated a few people throughout her high school years, and began to more “seriously” date a guy during her senior year in high school, though she knew the relationship wouldn’t last. despite appearing as a more serious relationship, to her, it wasn’t really anything of the sort, and she mostly wanted a relationship for senior prom and other trivialities

after senior year ended and she had accepted admission into uni in seattle, she basically cut ties with everyone in georgia aksdjskdjh she said good bye forever ! rip poor unnamed boyfriend he didn’t see it coming ...

her father also did not see it coming because she didn’t even tell him where she applied. but at the same time, did he ask ? no :/

once she left for uni, her relationship with her father became very very estranged. she still speaks to her mom on a pretty regular basis, but even then, she has a whole secret life and doesn’t feel particular close to either of them sjkdfhskdjh

she is definitely a friendly/sociable person. she can be pretty outgoing and loves to be around people. idk her mbti yet but she is def an extrovert ! ( she does tend to keep her feelings to herself tho )

despite her friendly demeanor, she does have a fiery spirit. if u wrong her she will hold a grudge against u until it gets settled/sorted. she can be more on the mean side when she’s upset, but even then she does not have a bad heart at all

when it comes to relationships, blair is all over the place. she can be very flirty/charismatic and is constantly hopping from one relationship to the next. she hasn’t quite been able to settle down, but it is possible. she kind of thinks being in a real relationship means losing her freedom, because that’s kind of what she saw happen with her parents, so she doesn’t really want to be tied down to someone in fear of losing herself in a way. does this make sense ? maybe ? ok !

blair has a fairly strong sense of self, but she’s still very young so she’s still growing and changing. she is the type of person to know what she wants and go after it ( yes, even with ppl ! ). she will stop at nothinggg to get what she wants ( oop ). u could say she loves the chase, but kind of gets bored afterwards unless u have more to offer !

party buddies - this is pretty basic and self explanatory, but someone blair can go out and have fun with. their friendship might be more surface level, or started that way at least, but it’s possible they’re closer friends ( maybe she opened up under the influence and it brought them closer aksdhsdjh drunk blair def would )

ex-fling/gf/bf - blair relationship hops, so she could have quite a few of these. we can plot it however, there can b feelings there, they can hate each other, of they can be just friends now, u name it !

unrequited crush -  ur character could have feelings for blair, but maybe she doesn’t feel them back or is unaware that they like her. this could develop into her eventually having feelings for ur muse or not, whatever we want ! OR blair could def have a crush on someone who does not like her back. maybe that person is super non-committal, or they simply do not like her back. we could plot this out however <3

current fling/friends w benefits - someone she is currently seeing/sleeping with. could be no strings attached, or there could b some feelings there. maybe they don’t want to make it anything serious, or maybe they’re ready to take it to the next level. maybe one person is ready to go further, and the other isn’t.

enemies w benefits - imagine the tension!!! they started out hating each other, but ended up hooking up. maybe it was a one time thing, or maybe they can’t stop going back to each other. i think it would b cool if they kept it a secret, they don’t want anyone else to know. this could develop in soooo many ways !

ex-friends - someone she used to consider a close friend, but they had a falling out for whatever reason n maybe they hate each other now. maybe they want to re-kindle their friendship but don’t know how

sibling-like friendship - someone she sees like a sibling. they’re there for each other and look out for one another, always have each other’s backs. being an only child and not really close to her parents, blair would love a friend that she could basically call family !

dynamic duo - basically like her current best friend. this person is prob one of the closest people to her and knows her very well ! they could b a power duo, always looking out for each other 

take care - someone who kind of looks after her ?? maybe when she parties a lil too hard and drinks a lil too much, someone who kind of takes care of her n makes sure shes ok ! they would be someone she trusts a lottttt

confidant - someone who confides in her or someone she confides in, or they confide in each other. they don’t necessarily have to be the closest friends ever, but they get along, trust each other, and maybe they talk more in private

rivals - they hate each other for whatever reason. maybe it’s jealousy or their personalities just clash, but for whatever reason they do not get along. i love a good enemies plot. they can just b nasty to each other !!! maybe they bring out a really bad side to blair that most ppl dont see. someone who makes her act like blair waldorf ( i’m def kidding abt the blair waldorf part )

bad influence - blair isn’t a goody-two-shoes by any means, but doesn’t really do anything crazy, so i’d luvv for someone to kind of influence her to do shit she normally wouldn’t on her own

these are all the plot ideas i can think of for now, but i’ll prob make a plots page later on and add more stuff !

What I Think is Happening

We saw a big focus on Dean and Jack’s relationship this past episode, and I think it’s for a plot reason. No, its not so Sam can be sidelined because Jack is popular so TPTB want to make him Dean’s son instead, but because Dean and Jack need some ground to be made up for starters. We all already know Sam and Cas are very close to Jack, but Dean was harsh on him until the end of 13x04 last year, and soon after, Jack got lost in the AU. And then this season, Jack recently said that if Michael cant be killed without killing Dean, then Dean dies too, so even if thats all water under the bridge, it was still bad water, and they need to come together. That’s part 1. 

Part 2 is that, a common SPN pattern is that something gets built up before being torn down, or strongly challenged. They tend to play up relationships or roles right before something comes along to crush it or change it drastically.  Remember in S1, Sam and John fought tooth and nail until they had a heart to heart talk and then soon after, John died. Later in S5, Sam and Dean were at odds right before each chose each  other. Or S11 when an emphisis was put on Sam and Dean being together and Dean never leaving Sam, and then ending on Dean needing to choose the world over Sam and Sam accepting it.  What I think is probably happening here, is that soon, Dean will be trying to kill Jack (as Michael!Dean) or Jack trying to kill Dean (however that may come about) and most likely. Sam needing to make a choice between Jack and Dean. 

Supernatural is a horror/drama show. Emphisis on drama. Any way to kick us in the feels, they will do. If this isnt what you like, then there are a bunch of other shows that don’t deal in drama to choose from, this one however, likes making us cry, and get angry, and scared and stressed. Im pretty sure this is about to be one of those things,

Remember that Jack was able to kill Michael but he didnt, so as Im convinced Michael is still in Dean but hiding, its probably coming soon that Michael!Dean tries to kill him. Of course in attempt to protect himself in case Jack recovers his grace and then will be strong enough to kill him again. Same way hes been looking for dark Kaia’s spear.  So why does this story arch have to be Dean’s and not Sam’s? Because it would have never  made any sense for Sam to have been unaccepting of Jack, unless Jack was bad. However, Jack is good, and no better way make a new character likable, than to have Sam like them.  Imagine if it was Dean who accepted Jack first and not Sam? Sam would have a valid reason to, with him being Lucifer’s son and all, and it would feel wrong , or OOC for Dean to like Lucifers son when Sam didnt and samgirls and bibros alike would be side eyeing Dean, like “How could you do this to Sam? He’s the son of the entity who tortured him for 180 yrs and taunts him to this day!” And then after a few episodes, Sam for whatever reason warms up to him. It would always be in our mind that he’s rightfully uncomfortable around Jack, and we’d wonder if Sam wasnt just keeping the peace, for Dean’s sake, and still quietly hates Jack.  Jack wouldnt be as well loved as he is, if this arc had gone the other way and when the question of chosing one over the other rears its ugly head, it wouldnt be as dramatic.  As we learned in the last 13+ seasons, is that Sam and Dean will die for each other, kill for each other, destroy the universe for each other, and that wont ever change, but throw in someone they both love as a son, and now you have a problem. If one brother would choose Jack over the other, it wouldnt be that they love him more than their brother. It would be that they do love Jack, and hes so young and hasnt even had a chance to live yet, and they know their brother is more than willing to be a martyr, and has more often than not, wanted to die and stay dead. Now we truly do have a moral delema. This also wouldnt be as dramatic if the boys needed to choose between their mother and each other, because even though many of us dont hate Mary, I dont think we’d hurt too much if she died.  If this happens, Im pretty sure, that something else will interviene and the choice wont have to be made. Like when Lucifer was holding Dean by the throat and telling Sam to either say “yes” or Dean dies. Something happened so that the choice never needed to be made, and to this day, we dont know how Sam would have chosen. We could say “Oh well obviously, hed say yes, because he wont let Dean die” but, he DID just tell Lucifer he was ready to watch the people he loves die, but he isnt ready to be his bitch. So really, we dont know what Sam would have chosen in the moment.  So while I wont lie and say Im not salty about low Sam content thus far this season, I am finding the other stories unfolding very interesting. Even what would seem to be very boring stories, have potential to go a very interesting way. I generally dont care about the demons, but what if the fact that they have no ruler, and are scared of Sam, that he unintentionally became the King of Hell?

 I dont give a crap about the Angels either, but what if the only way to save them (and yes of course Cas will try to save them) is to release them from The Empty which also unloads a bunch of nasty demons from the past that the boys have killed? Azazel. Lilith. Alistare Ruby? (note: bringing back dead follks has been part of the shows actual formula since S2 and its not going to change. Accept it and stop crying whenever it happens. you dont have to be a fan of the person they brought back, but just accept its always been part of the show) So obviously now, Lucifer is coming back and I too am tired of the character, but I accept that Lucifer will always be the series long big bad and we’ll have to deal with him off and on till the very end. However, now that he has Jack’s grace and Nick has made it obvious that hes a psychopath, what if Lucifer comes back as freakin scary, and not the spoiled 16 yr old he was? How much worse could he be to Sam then? So yeah, I see lots of interesting potential that could unfold from these stories.  This brings me to my final thought. And its just a thought, something Ive been batting around since yesterday. What if Michael is making Jack sick? Just hear me out. Jack wasnt sick till Dean came home. We dont know of him being sick while Cas had him away on a hunting trip, he got sicker after spending time with Dean in 14x06, and is now near death after spending the afternoon with Dean. Dean had a couple of dizzy spells, and possibly even some lapses in memory. Not remembering Jacks last name, when he was born, (but yes, these just may have been normal confusion in the heat of the moment) but Michael can obviously manipulate the biology of a creature. like giving the Djinn more powers that he only needs to touch someone to make their nightmares come to life. What if he’s manipulating Jacks health and when he does so, it makes Dean dizzy? I mean he cant just snap his fingers and Jack explode or he’ll blow his cover right? Make it look natural and no one will suspect anything. Anyway. that part is just a thought. Im sure there’s holes but, it does make me wonder :)

Okay, we need to talk about John...

Absolutely full respect and compassion to everyone who felt triggered by what John did to Sherlock in TLD. I can understand why you’re upset and why you are wondering if John is still a good guy or if he crossed a line that can’t be uncrossed. 

Below the cut, I’m going to take a look at it from a literary, story-telling perspective, so if that’s going to be too spoilery, too triggering, or too infuriating for you, might want to skip this one. 

I’m approaching this strictly as story. Story is there to help us make sense of the real world, to serve as an emotional release, to inspire, to warn, to help us explore ideas, etc. 

But it is not supposed to be the same as real life. Story is better structured, more purposeful, and more deliberate than real life. It’s also more heightened and larger-than-life. 

So none of the below is meant to be taken as justification of real-life violence. This is story. 

I can’t tell you for sure why Moffat chose to have John beat up on Sherlock. And I’m not going to say it was necessarily the right choice—it's art. Declaring an artistic choice to be right or wrong is very subjective and I’m not asking anyone to like the choice he made. 

But I do have some guesses based on literary devices and structure of why he went that direction, so I thought I’d share those with you—and then you can feel about it as you wish. 

First, story structure: 

I’ve discussed story structure in relation to Sherlock before, on my website, and I don’t think I’ve ever transferred those meta to Tumblr yet. 

But basically, there is a set structure to telling a story that most filmmakers (and Sherlock episodes are approached as films) use because it works the best for the audience. And because Sherlock episodes contain an ongoing story arc, we can also apply that same structure to the show as a whole, with S4 (instead of S5) bringing this story arc to a close. 

You can read my meta on that here (I assumed a 5-series arc instead of 4), but the relevant part for TLD is that we’re well past the half-way point, which was the vow Sherlock made at the wedding. 

That greater commitment he made must be tested, and immediately after, he was plunged into more complications and higher stakes. 

At some point in all this testing and higher tension, the hero breaks or seems to have completely failed. This is called the Dark Moment, or Major Setback, or other similar term. 

The dark moment or major setback began with John rejecting Sherlock. I believe it culminated in John beating the crap out of Sherlock, and then saying goodbye at the hospital. 

The dark moment is, as it says on the tin, the bleakest, lowest point in the story. And the deeper you make that abyss, the more rewarding the story will be when the hero finally succeeds. 

One of my favorite writing teachers has the mantra “How can you make this matter MORE?” So many writers tend to pull back, to go easy on their characters. That lowers the tension of the story, it makes the story less impactful. A good story—no matter if it is a quiet, slice-of-life story or a high-octane adventure story—pushes its characters to the breaking point. 

What is the one thing this character would never do, think, or say? Put them into a position where they must do, say, or think exactly that. —Another common advice from the same writing teacher. 

Basically, the Dark Moment should be as dark as you can possibly go within the plausibility of your story. There’s a 10 Commandments of Storytelling list from the author of The Princess Bride going around, and one of the commandments is pretty much exactly this. 

Because this is ultimately a relationship story between John and Sherlock (and it is—whether or not that relationship becomes romantic or not, the structure is exactly the same), at the Major Setback, they had to “break up.” I warned about this in my meta and here on Tumblr. 

And it had to be John walking away. Utterly rejecting Sherlock. That’s how a romance structure works. It’s not meant to be realistic, necessarily. It’s meant to show how the hero and the love interest transcend all odds to find their way back to each other. 

Low stakes in a story are boring. We always say we just want them to be happy. And I think that fluffy, happy fic serves a lovely and good purpose. But an actual TV show that lacks the necessary tension and emotional lows and only gives the emotional highs gets boring. 

It’s cliche, but you do need the bad to appreciate the good—in a story. 

I believe Moffat chose to have John beat up Sherlock because it reaches a lower and darker dramatic point than merely having him reject Sherlock or stop talking to him. He rejected and stopped talking to Mary—his “break up” with Sherlock needed to be bigger and worse and more heartbreaking than that because he and Sherlock are the primary relationship in the show. 

Did that HAVE to include violence? Mmm…perhaps not. But other options would have been yelling horrible things at him. Refusing to see him. …I’m not sure what else. 

John refusing to see Sherlock kind of prevents the story moving forward. There needed to be a confrontation. Something utterly rock bottom. That way, the reconciliation would be more powerful. 

Yelling horrible things at Sherlock would not be as visually interesting as having him “yell with his fists.” Moffat is a screenwriter—a visual storyteller. Given the choice, he’s probably going to pick visuals when he can. 

So, they hit rock bottom, but ultimately, John’s better self prevails and there is a beautiful, poignant reconciliation. 

You are not likely to see the beating addressed in any meaningful way in the show because immediately after the Dark Moment comes the Final Push—the all-out last-ditch effort for survival and to, in this case, beat the bad guy.

Working out John’s physical aggression and anger problems is low tension. It doesn’t add to the high stakes and action that is coming in TFP. They are going to have to fight, together, to beat the bad guy in order to earn their happy ending together. 

And I do firmly believe it will be together. Whether that’s romantic together or platonic together, I don’t know. But the story is about the two of them, always, so obviously the story will end with the two of them happy and together. 

But it’s unlikely that the show is going to have them address the beating in any real-life way because it doesn’t fit into this part of the story arc. We got a sense of John’s regret in his interrogation with Lestrade and in his discussion with Sherlock at the end of the episode. I’m pretty sure that’s all we’re going to get.

What About John’s Character? Was this OOC? 

Not at all. The Dr. Watson of ACD is quite a bit different than the John Watson of BBC Sherlock. Our John has always had a simmering anger about him. He’s always been physical—in good ways and bad. He’s always been a man of action, and not so good with spoken words. 

If he was to reach his breaking point, of course it was going to be physical and violent. Again, I’m not saying this is good. It’s not. But he’s never been a saint.

Larger Than Life: 

Another aspect of storytelling is that you need your characters to have a heightened reality, a larger-than-life quality. Ultra realistic, mundane characters are boring. 

But you also need some sense of emotional authenticity in order to make these larger-than-life characters relatable to the audience. 

This plays out in the way you choose to have your characters express their emotions. It’s not that you try to replicate real life, exactly. In a story, you try to grapple honestly with the experience of being human, but you do it in a way that magnifies it, draws attention to it, and creates an emotional response in the viewer. 

In John’s case, the point was to explore the ripping, violent, overwhelming emotions that come with experiencing a tragic loss, especially one that left loose ends and lingering guilt. The beating was a visceral, visual representation of those emotions. Yes, Moffat could have used words, facial expressions, tone, and Martin Freeman would have done a great job with it. 

But a violent confrontation, as awful as it is, represented those deep, wordless emotions far more effectively than dialogue or other non-verbals would have. It’s not meant to be taken as real life. The emotions, yes, absolutely authentic and real. But the violence—it was a way for the audience to visualize those emotions. 

I don’t think they will handle the aftermath of it “realistically” in the show, and I don’t think we are meant to view it “realistically” either.  

I’m sure that’s going to be a controversial idea. And there’s definitely a conversation to be had about how toxic masculinity denies a man any emotional expression other than anger. 

But I really don’t think Moffat chose the beating because he’s a violent person or enjoys violence or feels like that’s the only way for a man to express himself. 

I think it was an artistic choice based on the John Watson they created for this show and based on what would fit the narrative structure and be the best way to visually portray John’s emotions. Whether it was the best artistic choice is a fair debate--I’m not honestly sure I would have made the same creative choice in my writing. I don’t know what I would alternately have done, either.

What I did love, that balanced out all that ugliness, was when John, in the end, managed to express his emotions and grieve in a way that allowed Sherlock to comfort him. That was healing, that was beautiful. And it sent a clear message that violence wasn’t cathartic, it didn’t make anything better. 

What made it better, was love and gentleness, forgiveness.
