About Zelda’s and everyone’s voice acting in botw
I just heard the Latin dub. Nice actually. I’m a native spanish speaker and the mexican actors behind this are pretty good. Lol Zelda is the first Tori Vega. Either way after hearing the japanese and English trailers over and over and over again for 3 hours while hyperventilating I’m glad that we will probably get to pick language and subtitles options, since im sure the dub vs sub wars will get around when it releases.
Hopefully not but yeah I’m really just stating my opinion here guys. I’m sure that this is to each his own 100%.
I like the acting in japanese. Really good. Watching anime makes you understand that japanese voice actors are really, reeally great at what they do. The deku tree’s voice sounds tired and wise, I like it. The old lady is pretty standard but it gives you the setting real fast, good shit. Ghibli feels. Zelda’s voice has really good accents and tones, more of an intense delivery that I’ve heard a thousand times before in anime. I’m not saying its bad but.. I kind of expected the pitch. It’s just a tiny bit too common in my eyes.
The English dub, at least in my eyes, also has its strong points and weaknesses. I guess it depends in your tastes. The old lady is soothing, really story-telly feel. Love it. The Deku tree voice. Damn. It actually doesnt sound like oldass man , like the japanese one. It’s just mature. King Hyrule has a good tone as well. There’s good work here, definetely.
Taking all those reviews into account, I’ve heard so many bad things about Zelda’s voice but honestly, I am really liking it so far. Comparing the two is like comparing oranges and cabbages or something. They’re factually different. But I’m actually happy with this- Zelda’s English voice really pulled me and I see it in the character. The tone is tender, but not a child. It has a deep sadness in it, her subtlety is good, at least for me. Sometimes the anime screaming cry doesnt compare to the feeling you get when you can’t even let a sound out because your throath is tangled in anguish. It touched me, she sounds dissapointed ,defeated in her phrase “it was all for nothing”, a painful realization that as much as she has struggled, it’s not enough, and she feels like a dissapointment. She probably has been fighting alone for a whole century. We still dont know, but i fear for her and Link’s life.
This Zel has a lot of character potential that we may see differently depending on the delivery you prefer. Many will favor her intense screaming despair in the japanese voice; some may prefer the repressed, mature seen-it-all english one. It’s really up to you. I hope we can get along and not plaster other with the “obvious” choices.
Just enjoy this new feature of the franchise. I’m really excited, conflicted, but ready. Let money come my way pls
See ya and have a cookie for reading this far. <3 Lynx out
