alright, here's my thoughts on the current state of online tera raids and how i think they could be improved. excluding glitches in this post, since while yeah there's quite a few that should be addressed, i think the biggest flaws in this system are all just poorly designed mechanics.
under a cut because this got kind of long lol
problem 1: right now it's pretty much impossible to get into one of the 8 displayed raids on the front page unless you click on it within the first few seconds of the page loading (and even then it's pretty much a 50/50 shot). and instead of immediately telling you the raid is too full to join, it makes you wait a full 40 seconds for no reason.
two easy solutions to this: either decrease the time it tries to let the player in to ~10-15 seconds, or ideally just make it so pressing B while trying to join lets you cancel. also, since the front page raids fill up so fast, the refresh button should have a MUCH shorter cooldown; maybe 30-45 seconds at most.
problem 2: the random button is really the only way to consistently get into online raids. because of this, i feel like the time penalty for leaving a raid before it starts is too harsh (especially when you still get penalized even if the host cancels the raid, which is entirely unfair). i understand that the penalty is probably there to "encourage" people to help out lower level players. but on the opposite hand, i had a lot of times earlier in the postgame where i just didn't have anything to counter a difficult raid boss, so i had to choose between being a hindrance to the rest of the team - likely costing them the win - or backing out and taking a penalty for being courteous.
so i have a couple ideas for this: first of all, i don't think there should be a penalty at all for backing out before a raid starts. instead, give players who have beaten the game bonus rewards for participating in lower level raids. nothing too crazy, maybe just some extra exp candies and money items. don't punish players on the assumption that they're being selfish - instead, reward them on the assumption that they're being helpful.
on top of that, it could also be a good idea to have the random button take you to a second page where you can choose what tier of raids you want to join. this would also be a good place to show that lower tier raids can give higher tier players bonus rewards, which can encourage people to join those lower tier raids by choice. this is less necessary than the previous idea, but it'd be some nice quality of life.
problem 3: the raids themselves are way too slow with all the animations. the most noticeable example of this that i can think of is a rock type garganacl raid. every single turn, you have the player's animation (which is even longer if you're using a tera-boosted attack), then garganacl's tera-boosted animation, followed by its actual attack animation, and then the animation for being hurt by sandstorm, and finally the animation for being salt cured. sometimes also leftovers/shell bell and/or grassy terrain heals. every single turn. also, whenever you do something that heals your whole team, you're unable to do anything while you watch every pokemon do its healing animation. and that's not even mentioning how laggy it is online.
they already had a solution to this in sword and shield! abridge the move animations during raids. particles out of the attacker, particles into the target. don't make me watch shadow ball slowly creep towards the boss while a timer ticks down; that lost time really stacks. also this one should just be for every battle, but mention every stat boost/decrease at once instead of having a new text box for every stat. and of course when doing something that affects the whole team, do it all at once. there's a timer, i can't be sitting still for 10 seconds while every teammate is healed individually. the online lag is something i can't give any suggestions on really. that's on nintendo to improve their servers and it's on gamefreak to optimize their game.
problem 4: my final complaint might be more of a nitpick, but i really think the health cheer is way too rng-reliant. it feels like it only heals 1/5 of everyone's max hp most of the time. sure it also heals status conditions, but that doesn't really matter when you're knocked out this turn thanks to a tiny heal anyways. the other two cheers are always a net positive (unless you time them poorly and get your stats wiped immediately, but that's avoidable), but the health cheer way too often ends up doing more harm than good.
i can see that it might be hard to balance this one, but i just think it should never heal any less than 1/3 of everyone's max hp. maybe it heals 1/2 max hp 50% of the time, 1/3 40% of the time, and a full recovery 10% of the time. it doesn't have to be those numbers specifically, but the important part is that the minimum heal needs to be actually kind of decent, at least. otherwise its too much of a risk for something that's supposed to be a benefit.
there might be some other things that could be improved, but i think these are the worst of them. i also doubt they're actually going to fix raids in any way, but one can still hope! at the very least, i hope they learn and improve on these co-op game modes in future games.
#ghost town... 2!#pokemon#also 1 more as a joke: there should be a popup when you open the raids menu to remind you to consider what moves the boss might have. lol#stop bringing belly drum iron hands to a 6 star normal type sylveon raid challenge (impossible difficulty)#(the actual post has genuine gameplay mechanic critiques btw lmao i'm only complaining about other players here in the tags)

The 10 Most Frequently-Asked Marketing Question
The different industry has different Marketing questions. Whether a novice marketer or a marketing pundit, everyone’s mind is infiltrated with these questions. Knowing the answers to important marketing questions is incredibly important and vital to generating leads and sales.
Some wonder, “When is the right time to start?”, “How to identify your potential prospects”? Are you also plagued by these questions but come up empty-handed when it comes to seeking the answers?
If that is the case then rest assured.
Spare a few minutes and give a close read to these 10 most frequently asked marketing questions
1. “What Is The Best Way To Generate More Leads?”
Every marketer grapples with this question. Marketing for long hours and still not generating leads is what every marketers’ nightmares are made of. However, The best ways to generate leads are not as elusive and rigorous as one might think.
Generating leads is an amalgamation of both science and art. Now, why do I say this? Science comes in the process when you analyse and discern where your leads are and how to accelerate your lead generation rate. And then comes the art. Now that you know where your prospective leads are, you need to make them come to you. How will you go about it?
There are various effective and simple ways to do so. Use referrals, social media like Quora, Instagram, Facebook et al, leverage direct mails, engage your audience using interactive webinars. If all fails, then appoint professionals and take help from top Lead Generation Tools.
2. “How Can I Transform More Leads Into Sales?”
After the acquisition, now comes the next task, that is, fostering the leads and eventually turning them into sales. If your conversation rate is extremely low then the effort that you put in generating leads will be for nought.
The rookie mistake that marketers are guilty of is approaching the leads using a salesy, self-promotional tone when their approach should show the will to help out the customer and solve the lead’s problems. Address the queries that your lead might have and alleviate all the doubts before entering into the deal.
Once you find success in garnering your lead’s trust, you’ll be well on your way to enjoy a comfortable and a symbiotic relationship with your lead.
3. “What Can I Do To Turn More Buyers Into Lifetime Customers?”
Always remember that rather than always running after new customers try to retain your existing customer. This mantra can turn an “average business” into a humongous one.
You put a lot of time, effort and money in acquiring a paying customer. So once you successfully wrap up your first sale, ensure to serve in such a way that the customer keeps coming back for more. Existing customers generate more profit than the new customers If a customer avails your service for a long long time tantamount to a lifetime then you might end up engendering a lot of profit.
4. “Is Content Marketing Effective?”
Marketers often disregard the importance of content marketing. This is where they go wrong. You have no better option than content marketing to make your leads aware of your brand. If that wasn’t the case then enormous companies like Adobe, Amazon et al, wouldn’t have been indulging in content marketing.
The crux of content marketing is providing the customer with well-articulated, informative and active knowledge about your company, product and services. It entails anything from blog post articles to white paper and from ebooks to guides. If you come to think of it, content marketing tantamount to writing to generate leads and sales.
5. “What Are The Benefits Of Social Media Marketing?”
In this day and age, when people spend most of their time with their nose buried in their smartphones, going through their social media accounts, this question doesn’t warrant much thinking. We can go as far as saying that social media marketing is not up for negotiation. Do you own a business? Then it goes without saying that you get involved in social media marketing.
With social media marketing, your outreach automatically grows manifold. It has been proven time and again by retail giants like Burberry whose social media campaigns have dramatically increased their sales. The best way to leverage social media marketing is by generating original, creative, visually aesthetic and interactive images and embed all your social media accounts together in your website’s landing page.
6. “Juxtaposed To Social Media Marketing, How Effective Is E-mail Marketing?”
First of all, let me alleviate this doubt once and for all. While social media marketing is emerging as a powerful tool for marketers, it is still not on par with the excellence of E-mail marketing.
If you want to break it down into simple numbers, let me tell you that statistics show that email has three times more outreach than Facebook and Twitter combined. Having the capacity to reach such a large audience is no joke and shuts up the naysayers doubting about the credibility of e-mail marketing.
Think of it this way, say for example you’re posting something on Facebook hoping for leads to come and see it. Even if your page is massively popular, there’s no guarantee that your targeted audience will visit the page. However, when it comes to sending the e-mail, it’s a sure thing that the prospect will see it.
I know you’re wondering “Hey, people delete spams without even opening them”. The point here is, at least they’ll see the subject line and your companies name. And with an innovative subject line, they might even open the mail.
So, e-mail marketing is still any-day better than social-marketing.
Mind you, you still have to leverage social media marketing to augment the outreach of your business but you cannot do away with e-mail marketing either.
7. “Are Digital Marketing And Social Media Marketing Same?”
Many novice marketers are oft-heard asking the same question. One can say they both are the part of the same Venn diagram where Digital Market is the ‘superset’ and Social Media marketing is its ‘subset’.
Let break it down in clearer terms, Digital Marketing media marketing incorporates all digitally enabled devices used to promote a product or services. Whereas, Social Media Marketing is confined to social media websites like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Quora et al.
So, one can say that Social Media Marketing is one vital element of Digital Marketing.
8. “Between Social Media Pages, Videos, Webinars, Images, Emails, Cold-Calls And So On And So Forth…, There’s A Lot To Do And The Time Is Limited. How To Tackle All This Without Compromising With The Quality Of The Content?”
Phew! That’s a long list, I know. However, a smart and experienced marketer knows that you don’t have to take on everything.
Analyse closely and make a document regarding your prospects. Have a clear outlook about the things that are most likely to attract your prospect, the social networks that they use and accordingly create your content.
9. “What Are The Marketing Tactics That Might End Up Harming The Business?”
Some marketers are going at it in an extremely wrong way. These are the few don’ts that every marketer should take care of:
Don’t get defensive when a prospect points out something that is not aligning with your brand. Be patient and alleviate the prospects doubts without panicking or being defensive.
Don’t ever brag about your product. Instil this mantra in your brain that “you are out to help the customer not to simply sell your product”
DO NOT Badmouth your competition. It will do nothing but harm your sale by making you look insincere, insecure and obnoxious.
10. “How Important Is A Website When It Comes To Lead Generation?”
You may not know it but a lot of people judge your brand by taking your website into account. A Website is one of the most essential tools when it comes to marketing. Your website should be dynamic, that is, interactive in nature so that you can build a long-lasting connection with your leads. Engage and attract your prospects by introducing features like engaging videos, blog, popups, et al.
These questions and answers are imperative to run a better business and generating better and more profitable results. They sound simple, in fact, they are simple, however, it all comes down to how you’re implementing them. Every marketer should go through these questions closely and keep them in mind.
Are there any other marketing questions that invade your mind? Do you have any other solution(s) to the above questions?

12 Hidden Athens Gems Spotted by Locals
What is it that makes Athens special to live in and experience on a day-to-day basis?
If you ask our Spotters, that would be the unpretentious Mediterranean-meets-Oriental tsipouro and meze bars/restaurants; the indie cinemas (always playing movies in their original language with Greek subtitles); it’d be the sidestreets in the centre that so delicately strike the balance between decline, neglect, vitality and reappropriation, or the great weather that makes exploring in the city a joy of its own.
Here are some of our picks for some of the most unique, locals gems in Athens, in the words of our very own team of Spotters.
Stunning views from atop a neglected secret Aghios Ioannis Park (by Nikos Palavitsinis)
Well, this kind-of park isn’t the best choice for a walk, but it has a breathtaking view! It is located behind the Aghios Ioannis Metro Station (red line) and it’s quite steep, which makes it almost impossible to climb, apart from a small path that was made a long time ago and runs through it. Along the path, you will find pensioners playing backgammon and chess in groups!
It’s quite neglected but it’s charming in its state of decay. It’s really interesting to walk around and see the houses built on the other side of the hill, as most of them look like village houses, although built in the center of Athens. Don’t visit after nightfall, just to be on the safe side.
The view from Aghios Ioannis Park is one of the best in Athens, although the surrounding area and the park could be preserved a bit better! —Nikos Palavitsinis
Athens urban street life distilled, complete with bikes Melanthiou Street (by Andreas Papadopoulos)
There is a small street called Melanthiou in the area of Psiri, in the centre of Athens. In the last few years, this area transformed from a drug area into a cyclists’ joint. One of the pioneers of this movement is Welsh Gareth Jones, who came from London to open a bike store here.
At Melanthiou street you will find everything and everyone who has ties to biking philosophy in the city: the bike store VCA, Handlebar cafe, the Bondex cyclist couriers, along with Silver 925 graffiti store and creative design studio Pi6. You can come and drink your coffee while your bike is being fixed or eat something at very low prices. The best time to visit Melanthiou street is in the evening, when people are gathered at small tables by the road and it all creates a single company.
With a bike or not, take a break at this spot during your city walk in Athens’ center. You will probably meet me here while I’m fixing my bike again. –Andreas Papadopoulos
A century-old house turned bar Syntrimi (by Dimitris Hall)
My very first time at Syntrimmi, I discovered its mini-atrium that could very well be the foyer to my personal heaven. I returned for their literally unbeatable wine & coffee prices. Then I went back for their super-welcoming environment for quiet work in the afternoons. Then I went back for their music choices which fit my taste like a glove (Ibrahim Maalouf, Yes, Django Rheinhardt)…
Syntrimmi has become my favourite spot in the city!—Dimitris Hall
Super-local lunch dead in the centre Biftekares (by Nikos Palavitsinis)
If all my articles for Spotted by Locals were a crown, this would be the crown jewel! I am so proud to introduce this place, as this is something that merely 1% of Greeks know about! Biftekares is a really small spot, with 6-7 tables, mainly outside, overlooking Syntagma Square. The old man that owns it prepares 4-5 dishes, like delicious burgers, small pizzas of his own making, French fries, omelet, Greek salad and sausages. That’s it!
Keep in mind that once you locate the building, you just go in and take the elevator to the 9th floor. No signs there, no nothing. Even the doorman won’t let you know about the canteen.
This is probably the best hidden secret of Syntagma! —Nikos Palavitsinis
Large botanical garden few Athenians know about Diomidous Botanical Garden (by Pantelis Mavrodopoulos)
The Diomidous Botanical Garden is the largest botanical garden of the eastern Mediterranean. It was founded in 1952, and in 1975, after completion of landscaping, it was opened to the general public. In its area of 470 acres you can find trees and bushes can be found from all over the world, as well as plants mentioned in Greek mythology and history, like the myrtle of Aphrodite and Socrates’ hemlock.
If properly prepared, you can have a picnic under the shade of the trees, in one of the outdoor monastery-type tables, where you can meet other groups or families (or even me?) rolling around on the grass. —Andreas Papadopoulos
Festival cinema with bar attached Mikrokosmos (by @miss_psipsina)
Call it a cinema, call it a bar. Personally, I can’t really decide what it is, since I use it as both.
Film festivals of every kind take place here during the year while the normal selection of the films featured in Mikrokosmos is of the best kind and from all over the world. But as I said, there is also the bar!
I’ve spent hours laughing dead to the endless jokes of the owner and his wife. While sitting at the bar staring at the Tom Waits wallpaper in the back, I sometimes even forget I want to go home… —Margarita Kalogeropoulou
Best street food in Athens? Feyrouz
If you are wandering around Athens and are looking for street food, there is a place you should not miss! In the hyped, central neighborhood around Aiolou Street, you can have the most tasty lechmatzoun of the city! Mrs Feyrouz, who comes from Antioch in Turkey, bakes the lechmatzoun, and her sons, Andreas and Savvas, serve them. But most of all they create a gastronomic tour for you! They have a story to tell you about every delicious dish their mother makes and they share this story with you.
Since the very first time I visited Feyrouz I have visited them again and again. Not only because of how gastronomically happy they make me but also because you can feel that this family runs their small business with love for food and also love for the tradition that is related to their food!
Feyrouz was voted as the best place for “street food” in Athens and we are really proud of them! —Marilena Salamanou
Art and drinks at the old train To Traino sto Rouf
To Traino sto Rouf (‘The Train in Rouf’) is a well preserved old train in its natural environment, a train station. Theatrical plays, music performances and art exhibitions take place in the train wagons. The theater wagon is reformed as a theatrical scene, the wagon bar, with its wooden decoration and low lights creates a mysterious, retro atmosphere, while the restaurant wagon is as if taken from those old time movies, where so many things could happen on a train…
The schedule varies from season to season. In the summer you can have a drink of wine on the platform and in winter you can dine in the wagon restaurant, experiencing a unique atmosphere. Feels like you are in a movie… Anna Karenina maybe? —Sofia Skioti
The city’s most exciting overgrown stream Rema Pikrodafnis (by Dimitris Hall)
Among the blocks of flats, the avenues and the urban “growth” lies a different kind of growth. One that seems to be frozen in time together with its surroundings.
Rema Pikrodafnis is one of the few remaining relatively untouched streams in Athens. You can see the areas it runs through by clicking here. Polluted waters, illegal dwellings tacked on the stream itself, an overgrowth of reeds everywhere… It’s a forgotten, completely different world. You’ll find such things as chicken coops, tin shacks, tortoises, frogs and great views over the stream from the winding, labyrinthine roads that run parallel to it. Some might say it’s not an interesting sight and might wonder why anyone would want to visit a place such as it. I for one love this seemingly abandoned part of the city and really think it’s a symbol of the part of Greece a lot of people choose to forget. —Dimitris Hall
Innovative Greek concept store Graffito
Since Graffito opened its doors in 2012, it has been supporting new Greek entrepreneurs while bringing first-class design from all over Europe and the world. If you’d like to explore what Greek creativity and design has to offer, this is your spot. From deli to fashion, this place gathers some of the most up and coming Greek brands.
I love it for gift shopping, cause simply I can find special gifts for everyone here — from my parents to my best friend and even my dog. Moreover, there is a coffee shop inside the store which is ideal for getting a break from shopping with an espresso and some delicious cake. —Angeliki Georgokosta
Fertile breeding ground for upcoming creatives Neon Raum (by Aigli Andritsopoulou)
Upcoming creatives have finally found the right space to showcase their art in the urban core. Neon Raum is more than just another showroom and photography studio promoting Greek designers, it is a fertile breeding ground for artists and hoarders of unique moments of collaborative artistic practice, who have the need to express themselves and unlock their creativity by being part of a community that speaks a global language.
Innovative ideas by colourful individuals make Neon Raum the city’s hub of a limitless world of fashion, art and culture focusing on the beauty in the process.
Extra tip: Before you visit, check Neon Raum’s Facebook page for any popup events. Join their Sunday specials and get the chance to chit-chat with the designers while brunching in Raum’s sunbathed loft. —Aigli Andritsopoulou
Indie-underground apartment Velvet Room (by The Callas)
Velvet Room is an actual room, a very typical central Athens apartment which has been turned into a live music, performance, art, party and seminar venue. When there aren’t any events taking place, Velvet Room is the studio of the band The Callas.
I mostly go there for the music. It hosts some of the best local gems as well as international artists. Some of my favorite acts like Chickn, Kid Flicks, Victory Collapse and Angelos Kyriou have played there.
Don’t miss the opportunity to get a glimpse of the Athens indie – underground scene. —Angeliki Georgokosta

Things People Hate About Your Website
Re-post from the blog
You love your website. We get it. And why wouldn’t you? After all, you have put in hours and hours and sometimes quite a bit of money into bringing it into the world.
As a consequence, any insult hurled into its general direction is taken personally (and the perpetrator called a doo doo head – or worse). How dare they say bad things about your baby!?
However, I hate to break it to you, they might have a point. And in your heart of hearts, you know it, too. For weeks your bounce rate has been climbing, conversions are falling and your reputation dwindling. All the signs point to the need for a change.
Consider this an intervention. To open your eyes to the truth, in this article we will list all the things people hate about your website and that makes it hard to use, confusing, badly designed or simply out of date.
Ready to take of the rose-colored glasses and get to work on your website’s flaws? Then let’s go.
Here’s What Your Visitors Probably Hate About Your Site
Still here? Alright, now it’s too late to turn back. Let’s see if you recognize your site in the points below.
1. Your Site is Too Slow
People have never been as impatient as they are today. We want everything and we want it now. Especially on the web. I know you think that once people know how fantastic your site is, they will gladly wait for it to load. But that’s just not true.
47% of customers expect a site to load within two seconds. 40% will leave after three. Yes, one friggin’ second makes that much of a difference. In fact, Amazon found that one second delay in page loading would cost them $1.6 billion per year. That’s right, one second!
As a consequence, slow page loading times are one of the best ways to annoy the heck out of people (especially on mobile). It’s one of the things people most hate about websites. So much so that it will keep them from coming back.
Luckily, there is plenty of things you can do, from changing hosting providers and reducing the code to optimizing images and more. Even luckier, we have detailed article on this very topic.
2. It Doesn’t Look Good on Mobile Devices
Having a mobile optimized site is mandatory in today’s Internet. Nobody likes to use the old zoom-and-pan technique to consume your content. Neither do they like hitting the wrong menu items because your buttons are just too darn small.
Is there a quicker way to get people to rage quit your site? Probably not.
However, it’s not just human visitors. Search engines are just as annoyed of websites that fail to deliver an adequate mobile experience. In fact, Google goes so far as not even show websites in their mobile search results that they deem unfit to use with phones and tablet.
So, your existing users will quit your site while Google will stop sending you new ones. Sounds like a lose-lose situation to me. Time to stop being annoying and fix it already. This article will help you do so.
(By the way, a good step in the right direction is to use a mobile-optimized theme. Divi is one such example.)
3. It’s Littered With Popups
Popups can be a very effective tool for building an email list if used the right way. However, if not, they also have the potential to be the bane of your user’s existence and send your bounce rate soaring.
Nobody wants to close a welcome mat, normal popup and a slide-in form just to get to the content. If that is you, no wonder people are disgruntled with your site.
Keep in mind that there are other websites out there that don’t do the equivalent of yelling at their visitors. Plus, the back button is just a click away in every browser.
I’m not saying don’t use any pop-ups (you want to build an email list after all), I’m just saying be smart about it.
Take advantage of technology to stop showing returning visitors the same ads (especially if they have opted out before). Use exit intent to have to serve pop-ups only when they are about to leave or at least give them a time delay.
Or run A/B tests to find out which of your calls to action are actually effective and double down on that. Your visitors will thank you.
4. Your Website is Stuck in The 90s to Early 2000s
Look at the image below and tell me what’s wrong with it:
Hopefully, you can see it right away. The site looks like the person who built it learned web design on MySpace in 2004. Nice blast from the Internet archive, right?
However, don’t be the fooled. That is a website advertising an actual company and its services today! Of course, that is an extreme example and I don’t think your site looks like this. However, if it contains some of the design hallmarks of that same era, it’s time to rethink if you are not sending visitors away screaming.
Blinking GIFs, elaborate animations, flashing ads and other eyesores – just say no. They are distracting, annoying and in most cases not furthering your goal. If your site fits this description, you have found the explanation for the hate mail your receive.
5. Two Words: Stock Photos
Do you know this woman?
I see her literally everywhere. My wife and I actually have a running gag to point her out whenever we spot her. I have noticed her advertising everything from gyms to dentists to opticians.
That’s what happens when everyone uses the same stock images. Businesses (and websites) become indistinguishable from one another. A death sentence in marketing.
Plus, many of these images are cheesy, generic, non-genuine-looking and other unflattering adjectives.
Yeah, none of us actually work here. Image by Pressmaster / shutterstock.com.
Of course, you should use images in your content. And there are are exceptions (for example these).
However, stay away from stuff like above. It makes your company or website look as generic as the images.
A much better idea is to use unique images or stuff people can’t find elsewhere. For example, the Art of Manliness blog uses old vintage photos. Custom illustrations are another option. If that is not your thing, at least try to use real photos of your employees or clients.
6. Bad, Overly Optimized or Too Much Copy
Depending on how old you are, you might still remember the bad old times of SEO. Back in the day, when the motto was “the more keywords, the better”.
You would find pages with the same key phrases squeezed into every possible nook and cranny. Or copy that sounded as repetitive as the jokes in bad sitcoms.
Thankfully, search engines have caught on and punish people for said behavior. Yet, unfortunately, not everyone else has.
If you are one of those who still engage in keyword stuffing, it’s time to cut it out and get with the times. Read up some SEO copywriting tips, learn how to write in a way that is engaging and creates a connection instead of using marketing speak. And exchange your long prose with some multimedia! People only read 28% of your text anyway.
7. A Bland “About” Page
Especially if you are running a personal blog, the about page is usually one of the most frequented pages of a website. Visitors care about the person behind the writing and want to learn more about them.
However, this also contains the chance for failure. An impersonal about page filled with industry drivel that says nothing with a lot of words makes no emotional impact and puts people’s brains to sleep can quickly become one of the things people hate about your website.
To avoid this scenario, focus on language that people actually use, tell a story, connect. Also, make sure everything is up to date, including your contact information.
8. Your Site Structure is Non-existent
Little is as annoying as a badly structured website. People come to your website to accomplish a goal, not wander around like a labyrinth (unless they are minotaurs, who are pretty Internet averse).
Two of the most important factors for site structure is site navigation and internal linking. Get one of them or both of them wrong and your visitor’s annoyance level will show a sudden spike.
Consequently, when it comes to navigation, make sure you first map out the route you want your visitors to take. Only then can you create a proper way for them. After that, give them directions via headlines, copywriting, calls to action and a clearly labeled (and not overstuffed) navigation.
As for internal links, make sure to link between pages on your site that are topically related. The point is always to enhance the experience of the visitor, not run a smart SEO scheme. In the same vein, don’t overdo the anchor text!
And for heaven’s sake, check your site for broken links!
9. Your Titles and Headlines Suck
Titles, especially blog titles are an important part of copywriting. They are usually the thing that pulls people in – or pushes them away.
Page titles also create expectations. That’s a good thing if you can fulfill them, however, an equally bad one if you don’t.
Imagine you had read the headline of this post, expecting for the author to tear you into you about your website flaws and all I’d end up doing is mollycoddle you. That would be a shame, wouldn’t it?
The point is, don’t do the old bait-and-switch and stay away from click bait practices. It will only annoy people and send them the other way.
For tips on how to craft compelling titles and headlines, check this article.
10. Multimedia on Autoplay? You Gotta Be Kidding!
Who hasn’t had the experience of opening a bunch of tabs and suddenly having one of them play an unsolicited video or sound file in the background? And who here thought that was a good thing? Nobody. Especially in the office environment without headphones.
If your site does that, keep in mind that closing a tab is much faster than looking for the mute or stop button on your video. Whoops, there goes another visitor, never to return.
If you do have videos on your site (and there are good reasons to do so), make sure they are voluntary to play, not mandatory. Or, at least take a page out of Facebook’s playbook and play them on mute.
11. Two-site Syndrome
Even if you don’t know the term, chances are you have experienced two-site syndrome before. It’s when a company’s information website and e-commerce area are built with two different platforms.
For example, when you find yourself on a shop built with Shopify that takes you to a WordPress.com site when clicking on the blog button. It totally disrupts user experience and looks plain unprofessional. Say goodbye to your conversion rates!
The good thing is, with WordPress there is absolutely no reason for the divide. WooCommerce and other e-commerce plugins integrate seamlessly into the platform so you can have everything in one place.
What Things Do You Hate on Websites?
As parents of our web presences, we idealize them. We think they can do no wrong and there’s never been a better website out there.
For that reason, it’s often hard to fathom that others have a different opinion. Yet, your analytics might indicate just that.
The points above are frequent things people hate about your website and websites in general. If you recognize yourself in those points, for the sake of all of us, take some remedial action.
You will find that, even if your site changes a bit, you will still love it. Only this time others will share the sentiment.
