i like learning languages because "fried egg" as a term is pretty straightforward and descriptive, but deep in my heart it's a mirror egg even though i would never have thought of translating it like that before today (dutch "spiegelei", spiegel + ei, literally mirror + egg; german does exactly the same with conveniently the exact same spelling for once, though pronounced slightly differently) and the reason i'm thinking about this is that according to my sources (dictionaries) in thai it's a star egg (ไข่ดาว, khài + daao, literally egg + star) and both of those are infinitely pretty, poetic terms, which makes "fried egg" a sort of punchline purely by contrast. but then as i was looking up the etymology of spiegelei, as one does (it seems to be a translation from french, "oeuf (au) miroir", and it's a mirror because it's, well, shiny), there was a casual mention of the flemish (the people of flanders, the dutch speaking part of belgium) also using the term paardenoog. and that would be horse + eye. which a) feels as descriptive as fried egg, albeit in a very different way, b) does not particularly make me want to eat fried eggs, and c) the "ei" part in spiegelei sounds very similar to the english "eye", meaning that what we've stumbled upon here is the absolute best thing in the world: an incredibly context-dependent cross-language PUN. paardenoog? oh yeah that's a horse ei. oh my goddd

originally named Bernadetta (but she just goes by Bernie) it was build in 1949, with strong mechanisms destined for factory work and a red matter core installed at the back of her head - to keep it as high and far away from dangerous tools and chemicals as possible. it did great in it's work - until a tragedy from the shoreline made general attitudes more and more hostile towards the "robots"

after the story of Giewont broke the news, Bernie's work got tougher as people all around her either feared or outright despised her for what she was. when one day it finally fought back against the harassment, her anger was too great to control. it ended up seriously injuring two of her co-workers and losing its job

with no place in the world that deemed her dangerous, she stuck to the only thing that brought her relief - anger. with all the injustice that happened to her, she decided to pin the blame on the one who started it all - Giewont. it didn't help that her now biggest enemy escaped the country and was never caught. Benrie promised itself to get its revenge one way or another, resentment getting worse with each day she was stuck in the smoking ruins of a hostile country while Giewont left god knows where.

but there was another thing that kept her going. messing around with nothing to life for, Bernie found refuge in creating films. hanging around the producers and actors, perfecting the craft, it found itself amongst the creative group of people who inspired each other. and she drank it all in, sticking out even more from the crowd - if that's even possible with a plasma-ball like head. she also picked up a fancy for motorcycles :]

still, the general public opinions on robots didn't change. that's why it found itself on a mission - to Make Them Understand. because surely, once everyone knows the Truth, they wouldn't treat her so bad. they would know better.

set on her quest to create a movie conveying the Absolute Truth, it found itself in a role of a screenwriter and a director - still, no actors could play their roles as well as she imagined. and so, it's still lead on by three things that power her - revenge, inspirstion and the need to Show Them All

but behind it all. she's still such a loser<3

one of my favorite things in kushiel's dart is that sometimes phedre will have assignations where the patron doesn't really want kinky sex and their heart's not really in it because like, she could just relax and take it easy for an evening - after all, her primary job is spy - but instead she's always like 'well why did you hire ME, the Divinely Ordained Masochist, if all you wanted was missionary, a sucking off, and some mild spanking' and they're always like 'to be honest I thought the anguisette thing was a myth' and she goes 'well, you were myth-taken. now here's a cat o' nine tails, do something interesting to me with it'

Endlessly tickled by the idea of Akira being a good shot but a shit gamer. I like to think its cause hes got incredible hand eye coordination and super steady ‘surgeon’ hands; hes very good with precise movements, but panics when he has to do brain melting inputs. His brain can keep up but its hard to make his hands follow suit. Its why u can have him be dogshit at arcade cabinets; panicking with the little joystick and button mashing like mad, while having him be a beast at things like darts and billiards.

The only arcade games he can play is house of the dead-esque shooting games (hes literally at the top of the leaderboards for MILES and he draws crowds whenever he plays) and DDR cabinets (hes just very light on his feet)(NOT to be confused with stepmania; he would die if he had to do arrow inputs with his HAND). Its kinda fun to watch him fumble with the other silly gimmick cabinets, but its more entertaining to watch him do what hes good at. If u take him to play darts, and if the darts are super cheap, he will absolutely try his best to split them down the middle each time. Doesnt always work, but its insane to know that he lands the bullseye literally 100% of the time.

Sorry if someone's already made this poll I am just DYING to know if anyone else finds it hard to believe, as the show seems to expect us to do, that he entirely failed to notice both these things.

Speaking for myself, I can accept the possibility that Julian was clever enough to hide his enhancements from even a trained spy, especially given his decades of practice at it. But personally I just cannot believe Garak didn't at least suspect something was off when Julian got replaced.

made an Ultra oc based on my fwuma plush! Ultraman Dart, often called Fuzzy by humans, is a native of CM78, which is often called the planet of love and peace, and for good reason, as the planet has essentially achieved world peace, only have been invaded once, which ended in failure. Dart came to Earth on accident, but after experiencing life off the sheltered planet he was born on, he doesn't think he could go back and settle back into a sheltered lifestyle, and chooses to stay on Earth to help protect it from danger. He typically stays in his basic form, the one on the top right, which is around a foot tall, though he can of course become Ultra sized or human sized. his Ultra size is maintained by how stressed he is, rather than how much light he has access to, as is the case for all CM78 Ultras. CM78 Ultras also all have a layer of fur.
