Right of Way
For @klaroline-events KC Bingo - Enemies to Lovers - On AO3 and FF
At the Palm Beach Equestrian Club, Klaus Mikaelson is the prince of the polo field and Caroline the showjumping darling. They immediately dislike each other but, at the same time, can’t seem to get out of each other’s way.
right-of-way (noun) \ ˌrīt-ə(v)-ˈwā \
1: a legal right of passage over another person’s ground
2: in polo - when a player has the line of the ball on their right, they have the right of way (ROW). Enforced to keep all players safe and avoid collisions on the field, players may only enter or cross the ROW if they can do so safely and with enough distance.
Present Day (February) - Palm Beach International Equestrian Centre, Wellington, FL
(Caroline)
“I hate you.”
“Well, I hate you too, Forbes,” he growled, “now are you going to keep talking or am I going to have to...”
Before he could go through with his threat she’d pushed him up against the stall door, his intense gaze only increasing her desperation.
“Has anyone told you that you talk too much, Mikaelson?” He didn’t respond, just leaned in impatiently, his mouth claiming hers greedily.
Caroline pulled him closer, grabbing ample handfuls of his number 3 polo jersey. He was warm and familiar against her skin and a delicious aromatic mixture of spice and sandalwood. She’d never admit it, but Caroline loved being close to him post match. They’d just won convincingly, no surprises there, but he was always more needy and urgent and the sex decidedly more explosive.
His mouth travelled down her neck and Caroline had to bite her lip to stifle a moan. She wanted to take her time and enjoy him but given where they were that wasn’t an option. Plus, she knew from experience that he would make it up to her later.
He was trailing kisses along the length of her collar bone now, his lips teasing the swell of her breasts and his tongue close to delving into the valley between them when she heard a noise in one of the far stalls.
It startled them and broke up their kiss. They started at each other intently, panting but at the same time holding a silent discussion with their eyes. Should they risk it or should they move apart and avoid suspicion? It seemed like a fairly easy decision. No one could know they were together but the strong magnetic pull between them made moving seem inconvenient.
A further noise and subsequent horsey neigh made them realise that, unfortunately, it wasn’t going to happen. Not now anyway.
“I don’t like you that much anyway,” she reiterated, shrugging her shoulders. If he was offended by her comment he didn’t show it. His crimson lips curved into a knowing smile, a rogue dimple making an appearance in his left cheek.
“The feeling is mutual, love. Don’t miss me too much.” He was walking purposefully through the stables before she had a chance to reply.
Asshat.
Caroline hit her head against the stall a few times, hoping that it would somehow allow sense to prevail but unfortunately she knew if he kissed her again she wouldn’t resist. She was supposed to hate the guy not be rubbing up against him every chance she got.
Caroline felt a soft nuzzling against her shoulder, looking up into the warm and expectant eyes of her chestnut mare Coco.
“Don’t start,” she murmured, patting her nose affectionately.
How did she get here? How did they get here?
It had all started out so innocently. You don’t like the person, you ignore them.
Simple, right?
10 months earlier (April) - Palm Beach International Equestrian Centre, Wellington, FL
Equestrian was the way of life in Wellington. In fact, if you didn’t ride, compete or spectate there was no point in actually living there. Home to the Palm Beach International Equestrian Centre and to the famed Winter Equestrian Festival, they lived, breathed and everything else horse related. Caroline’s mom and grandmother had both competed at a national level and were local legends in her hometown.
She was following in their footsteps and out of the three she possessed the most natural talent. While skilled in dressage, her forte was showjumping and there were hopes she’d one day compete in the Olympics for the USA. As much as Caroline loved horse riding, she didn’t love the pressure associated with it.
Her best friend Kat competed with her from a young age, but she maintained she only stuck it out because she couldn’t resist a hot guy in jodphurs.
It was a Tuesday, Caroline remembered because she had her private lesson. After arriving at the club, she noticed a few new faces. Two guys and a girl, all around her age. The brooding blonde was especially good looking, he looked kind of familiar but she wasn’t sure why.
He also seemed generally unimpressed with his surroundings as the director Jenna Sommers showed them the facility. Caroline hung back, but was still close enough to overhear.
“The stables were built in 2017, there are sixty 12x12 stalls, twenty wash stalls, specialty hay and grain storage, multiple dressing rooms, laundry rooms, office space, full sized kitchen and bathrooms. There are three arenas, one covered, one sand and one grass.”
“And the polo facilities,” the blonde interrupted, clearly impatient. His voice was very English and his tone incredibly brusque.
“The Polo Club is adjacent. It spans nearly 250 acres and includes seven state-of-the-art tournament fields that can accommodate multiple games simultaneously.”
“I suppose that will have to do,” he muttered. Caroline knew she was biased but the polo club was internationally renowned and held many top level national and international competitions, this guy was clearly hard to please.
“Oh, Caroline,” she didn’t realise just how close she was. Jenna was looking at her curiously and she could tell was relieved by the interruption. “Meet the Mikaelson siblings, they’re new to Florida and the States. Caroline Forbes is one of our very best show jumpers.”
They seemed intimidating from the outset as they looked at her expectantly and Caroline wasn’t quite sure what to say, until she managed to get something out.
“It’s nice to meet you.”
The good looking one’s eyes flickered over her attire briefly before looking away. Charming. Well, two could play at that game.
“Rebekah is the same age, Caroline,” she said, gesturing to the blonde girl. “Maybe you could take her out to the arena for your lesson so she can look around?” Caroline figured it wasn’t a suggestion but an order.
At first Caroline thought Rebekah was incredibly uptight. Katherine would say she had a stick up her ass and Caroline was secretly glad her best friend wasn’t part of the welcoming committee.
She found out that the family were members of the exclusive Cowdray Park Polo Club in West Sussex and Rebekah’s older brother was skilled in polo. Rebekah excelled in dressage and was quite heavily involved in competitions like Caroline.
“So, I take it this isn’t that impressive compared to your previous club in England?”
“Why would you say that?”
“Your brother didn’t seem very happy with the polo facilities.”
“Niklaus isn’t happy with anything,” she drawled.
“Niklaus?”
“He hates it but I do it just to annoy him,” she offered, a slight smile crossing her face. Maybe there was a less uptight side to her after all.
“No, I meant that name sounds familiar.”
“He’s one of the best polo players in England and beyond, but don’t tell him I said that because I will deny it,” she groaned.
Now, it was all coming back to her. Caroline didn’t play polo but knew she’d seen him on the cover of quite a few magazines. He was incredibly good looking but from what she’d seen, he was clearly arrogant and self absorbed too.
“None of us are happy that my father was transferred for work but Nik is feeling the move the most. Elijah is off to Yale so is only passing through town and Kol is Kol.”
Caroline wasn’t sure what that meant, but she was certain she’d find out.
4 months later (August) USA v Argentina Display Match, Palm Beach International Polo Club, FL
“Look at that South American stallion in action,” Katherine purred from the sidelines. “And by that, I don’t mean the horse.”
Caroline rolled her eyes although it wouldn’t be Kat if she wasn’t checking out the talent.
The annual display match was a big event on the club’s polo calendar. People from all around the country and overseas attended and it was one of the premiere fashion events of the year. Although Caroline enjoyed it, something was making it less that way. Or someone if she was being specific.
Klaus Mikaelson.
Watching him take the field like he owned the place was a bad enough start to her day. In the four months she’d had the displeasure of knowing him, Caroline had decided that he was one of the most arrogant, conceited and smug idiots she’d ever met. Of course, the other girls at the club didn’t share her feelings and were all vying for his attention on and off the field. Caroline thought they were all pathetic for not seeing what she saw.
That he was an ass.
Caroline had every intention of steering clear of the guy but it seemed as if everywhere she went, he did too. It didn’t help that her and Katherine had been spending time together with his sister. It also didn’t help that he looked so attractive annoying her. Whether it was a flash of those dimples or a curve of his crimson lips, Caroline found herself doing all that she could not to jump him. And she hated herself for that. It also meant she was moody more often and it clearly hadn’t gone unnoticed.
“The grouchy look on your face is doing nothing for that stunning Burberry dress, Care,” Kat insisted. Caroline looked down at the white, fitted ensemble thinking her friend was right that it didn’t match her personality.
“Why do we have to watch this?” She growled, noticing Katherine was about to interrupt. “And I don’t want to hear about the South American stallions."
“Well, unfortunately the club has this really annoying policy whereby all younger members need to be present. Apparently, it helps with publicity and that means more members and we all know what that means.”
“Money,” she murmured. “I don’t like it but I get it. But since when did we become the cheerleaders for the guy’s polo team? I don’t see any of them at our show jumping meets.”
“As much as you don’t want to hear this, polo is more popular and it doesn’t hurt that the club’s star player is the best advertisement they’ve got.”
“If you say his name…”
“The club has hit a gold mine with Hottie Mchottie as a member and I’m inclined to agree.”
“You did that on purpose.”
“I could have meant anyone,” she smirked. “Okay, maybe. I have to admit, I love the way he riles you up, it’s like watching live action foreplay.”
“You have a one track mind.”
“And you, my dear, are in denial.”
“I can’t stand him and his pompous ass.”
“Talking about his ass again, are we?” Kat teased. “Anyone would think you were obsessed.” Caroline gave her a look which plainly said she wasn’t interested in engaging. “Have you considered relieving some of that sexual tension with him in the nearest stable on a strategically placed haystack? You might find that helps with your general mood.”
“Well, on that rather weird and erotic novel type note,” she growled, annoyed that Kat probably had a point. She couldn’t stand the guy but there was no denying her attraction. “I’m going to get a drink and then spike it so I don’t have to deal with your wild opinions.”
“Best thing you’ve suggested all day, get me one too,” she called out to her retreating back. Caroline could hear her laughter and it wasn’t helping improve her mood.
“Why are you in such a bad mood?”
What was this, pick on Caroline day? She looked over at Kol Mikaelson standing by the buffet table, his plate piled high.
“You realise you can come back again for more, right?”
“This is my third helping,” he said, gesturing to his food. “I don’t know why they insist on these tiny plates.”
“Probably so people like you don’t hoover up the entire buffet in one fell swoop and leave nothing for the rest of us,” she offered. “I’m surprised to see you actually.”
“Really? This is my dream come true, free food and beautiful women.” Caroline fought the urge to roll her eyes.
The youngest Mikaelson had always been an enigma to her. Kol had absolutely no interest in horses. Period. Unlike his sister and brother he only attended the club on social occasions. She actually found him to be the most fun, not that she’d ever admit that.
“Of course,” she sighed knowingly. “I’m not sure why I said that. I can see the food has been a hit, how about things on the girl front?”
“Not yet, but it’s still early. I have to say Katherine is looking…”
“I’m going to have to stop you there,” she interrupted. “I love my best friend but she is a pariah and will devour you and not in a good way. Plus, she likes older guys.”
“Well, that explains her checking out Elijah,” he muttered, referring to when his older brother visited the club on a break from college a month earlier. “Any other friends for me?”
“Not any I’d introduce you to, Kol,” she joked, noticing his face falter slightly. “The day is still young though and I’ve caught April Young checking you out.” Given the way his expression changed, Caroline figured she’d buoyed him slightly.
“Of course she was,” he grinned. “So, why so glum, sugar plum?” He asked, placing his plate down and looking at her earnestly. “Usually Niklaus has to be in at least a half mile radius for this kind of reaction.”
“This has nothing to do with…”
“I’m his brother and, trust me, I know the signs,” he advised. “I assume you’ve heard about the Winter Festival then?”
“Well, it’s held every year,” she replied.
The Winter Festival was the premiere equestrian event running from January to April every year in their hometown of Wellington. It was considered the largest and longest-running competition in the world and attracted varying levels of riders from all over the US and beyond.
“Yes,” he drawled sarcastically. “I meant about you and Niklaus doing...”
“Me and Niklaus?” His face was ashen now, clearly he’d misjudged the situation and her reaction. “Doing what exactly.”
“You’re going to have to ask him,” he blurted out, holding up his plate of food like a shield between them. “I have no intention of being the messenger who gets shot, especially when I’m so young and handsome and have so much to live for.”
“Gee, how dramatic. Just tell me, Kol, “ she pressed. “Trust me, my anger will be squarely directed at your brother. If you need any proof just look at precedent.”
“He told me that you two are going to be the faces of the festival,” he mumbled. “Do all the publicity and promotional things for it.”
“Unbelievable...” she scowled. “I’m going to kill him.”
She was gone before Kol could offer any rebuttal.
45 minutes later
(Klaus)
“No need to tell me how wonderful I am, Forbes,” he smiled, walking towards the stall leading his stallion Jet.
He’d happened upon her pacing outside his stall, her white dress doing nothing to hide her delectable curves. He’d almost lost concentration multiple times during the match thanks to that particular ensemble. Klaus wasn’t one who lost concentration often but was starting to realise that Caroline Forbes did something to him that no one ever had before.
Sure, he liked to give her a hard time and revelled in the way she reacted but she’d commanded his attention for months now. No one even stood a chance when she was in his line of sight.
It started when they met. Those golden waves and blue eyes were mesmerising but if Klaus was being honest it was the slight dusting of freckles across the bridge of her nose that really drove him crazy.
“I’m not one of your pathetic, sycophantic groupies,” she hissed, finally coming to a stop and placing her arms across her chest defiantly. “I hear you’ve been making decisions on my behalf.”
“You’re going to have to be more specific,” he said, leading Jet into the stall and removing his bridle. Klaus wondered how long it would take for the news to reach Caroline.
“You know exactly what I’m talking about. You can’t just go around making decisions on my behalf,” she argued.
“The festival, I assume?” He asked feigning innocence. “They needed two photogenic, equestrian talents to promote it. If anything I thought you’d be flattered.”
“Wow, you really think I’m going to fall into a giggling heap because you called me both photogenic and talented? You picked the wrong girl.”
“I didn’t pick anyone…”
“Oh no you don’t,” she shot back. “I just spoke to Jenna and apparently it was all your idea.”
“She asked me for suggestions and I obliged.” Klaus figured that at least sounded half true, even if it wasn’t.
Klaus knew that if he was going to be stuck doing publicity then the only person he wanted by his side was Caroline. Yes, it was selfish, and now, probably in hindsight, a little creepy sounding but he wanted her to see there was more to him.
“If that’s true,” she accused.
“If you do this then think of all the benefits.” She gave him a curious look and Klaus knew he had her attention. “Sponsorship, fame, fortune.”
“Just because you want those material things doesn’t mean I do,” she answered. “There’s more to life than all of this.” Klaus detected a sense of sadness in her tone, like show jumping wasn’t her only ambition in life. Before he could respond, she did. “Anyway, why would I make a pact with the devil?”
“You know, I’m much nicer once you get to know me, Caroline.”
“Says Satan,” she drawled. “I’ll believe that when I see it.”
“Well, you’re going to have about six months to see it,” he replied.
“This is not happening,” she insisted. “I’m going to tell Jenna that this was all your hair brained scheme and I want no part of it.”
“Now, even I know you won’t do that,” he said, knowing he was right. If she backed out on this it would be frowned upon by the upper echelons at the club, not to mention her family. “Look, maybe you might even have a bit of fun. Did you ever think of that?”
“I’ve never associated you with fun,” she murmured. “More like the impediment to it.”
“We’ll see about that, love.”
“If we’re going to at least pretend to be friends, don’t call me love.”
Klaus watched her walk away, her hips wiggling hypnotically from side to side. Jet nuzzled into his neck, almost like he was thinking the exact same thing.
“Hooves off, boy, I saw her first.”
2 months later (October) - Municipal Beach, FL
“Why exactly am I wearing high heels on a horse on a beach?” She asked, as someone touched up her make-up. “I think this is up there with the most ridiculous things I’ve ever seen.”
“It’s supposed to be artistic.”
“Well, it’s not. Anyway, who asked you?” She shot back, as he held onto the reins of her horse. “You get to wear comfortable footwear at least.”
“If it’s any consolation, red is your colour,” he said, gesturing to the patent heels she was wearing. She groaned, no doubt moving around in order to get more comfortable, but given she was wearing a matching ball gown, Klaus knew it was no mean feat.
“I’ll tell you where you can stick your consolation, Mikaelson.”
“Now that’s not the way for a lady to speak, is it Jigsaw?” He spoke to the horse she was atop.
“Remind me never to agree to do this again,” she mumbled, leaning down so she could say it in his ear.
Klaus couldn’t help but laugh aloud, she’d been saying it ever since the publicity campaign began in September. Photo shoots had become commonplace for them but they’d also just finished a nation-wide interview blitz where he’d be charming and Caroline had no choice but to follow suit. He might have also held her hand a couple of times and gone out of his way not to deny a possible romance between the newest equestrian darlings. The media had eaten it up of course and Klaus was in no rush for it all to end. Luckily, they still had a while until it all wrapped up.
Her frustration with him seemed to only add to his need to be near her. Klaus knew it was a tactic she employed and that the attraction between them was not only one sided. Caroline seemed to make it her aim in life to keep her distance but Klaus could feel it in her looks and her touch.
“You secretly love the attention.”
“Not bloody likely.”
“Someone’s clearly been around me too long,” he teased hearing the ‘b’ word.
“And don’t I know it,” she groaned, then attempted to sit upright again in the saddle. In the process her left shoe fell off and landed on the sand. Klaus sprang into action, kneeling down and picking it up. He noticed her looking downwards from the saddle and held it up to her foot.
“I think there was a fairytale about this once.”
“That’s fantastic,” the photographer shouted excitedly, what seemed like a thousand clicks sounding out from his camera. “Smile, Caroline, it’s your very own Prince Charming.”
“You’re never going to let me live this one down, are you?” She asked through gritted teeth.
“Never, Cinderella.”
One month later (November) - Palm Beach International Equestrian Centre, Wellington, FL
“That’s not the right of way,” he insisted, watching as she attempted to get the ball further down the field. “The line of the ball needs to be on the right.”
“But it’s my right of way,” she argued, moving the ball again.
“No, that’s cheating.”
“You are no fun, anyone ever tell you that?” She laughed.
“They want the faces of the festival to play in the charity polo tournament,” he said. “I don’t think the organisers would take too kindly to you breaking the rules.”
“Polo is entirely too civilised for my liking, far too many rules.”
It was at that point, her horse stopped dead in the middle of the field and no amount of encouragement was going to move her. Klaus swept in and took possession of the ball and rode the rest of the distance to score.
“Hey, that’s not fair! My horse is broken,” she shouted.
“That’s no way to talk about Scout, is it girl,” he grinned, trotting closer so he could rub her ears and mane affectionately.
“Sabotage, that’s what this is,” she growled. “I should have known when you gave me one of your fifty million horses for practice.”
“I have three and every polo rider should have a few to choose from,” he remarked. “And as much as I love Coco, she’s not a polo pony.”
“She wouldn’t cheat like this little lady.”
“Says the biggest cheater of them all,” he teased, nudging her slightly.
Caroline, not wanting to be outdone, pushed back until it became a full on play fight. Catching him by surprise, Caroline pulled at one of his stray curls causing Klaus to reel backward and off his horse completely. It had been raining overnight so the field was wet and muddy in parts. Klaus managed to fall right into one of them.
As much as he wanted to get angry and be upset, Klaus couldn’t help but think her melodic laughter was contagious and he started to follow suit. Pretty soon they were both in fits of laughter and Caroline wasn’t expecting him to reach up and pull her off the saddle and into the mud with him.
“Hey! That’s not fair!”
“Says the girl who started it,” he joked. “I don’t know, I think mud is a good look for you.” Before she could react he’d smeared it across her cheek.
“You did not just do that!” Caroline threw some back, hitting him square on the chest. “This means war, Mikaelson!”
“Bring it on, Forbes,” he provoked, pulling her into the mud with him.
45 minutes later
“I think we can safely say that our first polo practice was a disaster,” Caroline murmured.
They’d both showered in the centre’s bathroom facilities and were sitting outside waiting on some clothes to dry. Klaus was trying not to notice just how good she looked in a towel, her usually creamy skin tinged pink from the hot water.
“I don’t know, I personally thought it was a lot of fun, especially when I pulled you into the mud pit.”
“Of course you did,” she drawled. He noticed her eyes riveted by a stray water droplet running down his bare chest. It seemed like he wasn’t the only one currently distracted by the view. “I, uh, didn’t think you had it in you, to be honest.”
“Have what in me?”
“I thought you were far too into yourself to let loose and have a bit of fun,” she offered.
“Wow, you really think that badly of me?” He asked, not exactly surprised by her account of him but also slightly offended. “Talk about judging a book by its cover.”
“I’m sorry but you seemed unimpressed with everyone and everything here after you arrived in town.”
“I was homesick,” he replied honestly. “I still am sometimes. I never wanted to leave England. My whole life was there, my friends, my family. Florida is like a whole other world and I wasn’t sure how to act.”
“Yeah, it is intense.” The empathy reflected in her eyes was enough to tell Klaus she was reconsidering her views. “You do that confident, smug act a little too well.”
“Trust me, it was difficult. This place is like horses on steroids, well you know not the animals themselves.” Klaus couldn’t believe how stupid he sounded, he decided to blame it on her being barely dressed.
“I know exactly what you mean, although Wellington is all I’ve ever known.”
“You said something about there being more to life than this,” he recalled. “What did you mean by that?”
“The dreaded legacy.”
“Family pressure?” He guessed. Klaus knew from asking around that both her grandmother and mother had been champion riders.
“This life was it for them,” she murmured. “This is all they’ve ever known and they want me to follow in their footsteps but I’m not quite sure that’s what I want.”
“You mean there’s more to life than this equestrian dream?”
“I want to get out of Wellington, go to college next year and see what else is out there.”
“Have you ever considered talking it out with them?”
“Many times,” she shared. “But I chicken out every time. How do you start a conversation like that?”
“My step father is the opposite,” he offered. “Mikael thinks riding around on a horse is extremely unmasculine and that I should be doing more practical things in my life, like concentrating on college.”
“Wow, he sounds like a real…”
“Ass?” He answered for her. “I think he hoped this move would make me reconsider polo but I don’t really know anything else.”
“We are an extremely pathetic duo.”
“Maybe we need to do something to cheer ourselves up,” Klaus suggested, trying to ignore just how much he wanted to pull off her towel and play out every single fantasy he’d had starring Caroline.
“I’m not going to roll around in the mud again with you, Mikaelson.” He could tell by the way she was looking at him, biting her lower lip as her eyes devoured him, that she wasn’t opposed to it at all.
“I could think of other, more clean, ways to pass the time until our clothes are dry?” She clearly didn’t need to be asked twice.
“Now that you mention it, I think I missed a few spots,” she smiled, pulling him up by the hand and leading him towards the showers.
“I’d be more than happy to help with that, love.”
The tension that had been building between them for months finally dissipated in a shower stall. Her back up against the tiles as he moved inside her, the hot water falling down on them. Time stood still and they only emerged once the water ran out and they were forced back to reality in a cold burst.
As relieving as it was, Klaus was disinclined to ask too many questions in case the spell was broken. Caroline seemed just as reluctant. Suddenly, being near each other was all that mattered and any talk about their feelings pushed into the background.
Present Day (March) - Competition Arena, Palm Beach International Equestrian Centre, Wellington, FL
(Caroline)
“Only one circuit between you and the championship, Care,” Kat smiled, giving Coco an obligatory good luck sugar cube.
Caroline barely heard her best friend or the announcer over the loudspeaker, she was too busy trying to get into the competition zone. Usually, it was easy to block out outside influences but she’d been struggling for the last few weeks.
It had all started when Klaus decided to ask the question they’d managed to avoid for months now. They’d finished their ‘picnic’ at a secluded spot they secretly visited and rather than redressing and leaving as usual, he’d asked the question.
“What are we?” She’d frozen to the spot, unable to respond. They didn’t do this, they didn’t talk about their feelings or wherever this was going between them. They didn’t do anything.
“Klaus…”
“You and I both know that things can’t continue like this.”
“Why not?” She cried. “We’re having fun, we’re enjoying ourselves. Let’s not ruin what we have.”
“That’s the problem, I don’t know what we have,” he murmured. “I know that you make me happy and that the last few months have been the best of my life.”
“So, why do we have to put a label on it?”
“Because no one knows about us, we hide away like we’re ashamed of being together. I don’t want to do that anymore because I love you, Caroline.” He’d never said that before and she wasn’t quite sure how to handle it, especially mid-fight. His gaze was as intense as it was imploring.
“It’s just…” Caroline broke off, unable to explain how she was feeling and what she wanted. She knew she had strong feelings for Klaus but it scared the hell out of her. “You’re going to Oxford in the fall and…”
“So, you’ve had enough of me then? This was all just a game to you?” She knew it wasn’t a game but it was difficult to find the words. She was expected to keep on the equestrian track in the States and the thought of him leaving her there was too much.
“Of course not,” she murmured, her gaze now firmly downcast to avoid his gaze. “I just don’t know where this is going and the sooner we realise that the better.”
He was gone before she looked up and they hadn’t spoken since.
“Caroline, hello?” Katherine asked, waving her hands in front of her face animatedly. “Where did you go? If that was a sex trance, I want to know all of the dirty details.”
“I only told you about that because you’re my best friend, but I have no intention of going into detail, even if you’re giving me those pleading, sex-starved eyes.”
“No fun, bestie,” she pouted. “So, why do I sense there’s trouble in paradise?”
“There’s no trouble,” she offered. “We’re actually not seeing each other anymore. It’s really for the best given...”
“Are you dumb or blind or both?”
“It’s not going anywhere, he’s off to England in the fall and then what? I’ll still be here doing what I do.”
“And you sound so excited by that prospect.”
“You’re going off to Columbia, Rebekah to Harvard and I’m going to Brown, not because I really want to go there but because it has the best equestrian team.”
“You need to tell your mom that this isn’t the life you want.”
“Easier said than done,” Caroline groaned. “Did I tell you that I got into Oxford?”
“What do you think?” Kat drawled. “How could you not tell me this, I’m only your best friend.”
“I only received the letter on Thursday.”
“So, I’m officially confused. You want to go to Oxford, you always have. Doesn’t this mean that all the moaning and groaning about Klaus and a possible future is redundant?”
“Kat…”
“Caroline, I say this with love, but you’re an idiot. Yes, your family wants one thing but I think you’re old enough to make your own decisions. Plus, I bet the equestrian team at Oxford is pretty good, you know if you want to keep your options open.” She did have a point.
Caroline didn’t have time to respond though because one of the guys they knew from the polo club came running towards them frantically.
“Please tell me that’s not some new and really bad dance?” Kat asked, looking at him curiously.
“There’s been an accident on the polo field.”
“What happened?” Caroline asked, her stomach dropping. It could have been anyone but for some reason she felt like it was him.
“Number 3,” he panted. “Opposing team broke the right of way, there was a collision and he was thrown off his horse.”
“Is he okay?” Caroline asked, all composure lost. She didn’t care who knew just as long as he was going to be okay.
“They took him to hospital by ambulance, he was unconscious,” he replied.
Caroline handed Katherine the reins, and they held a conversation with their eyes. The decision about what to do was the easiest one she’d made. No championship was worth it, she was going to the hospital.
1 hour and 45 minutes later
(Klaus)
“He always was the most dramatic one in the family.” Klaus heard Rebekah’s voice as he started to come to. They all knew she was the most dramatic but liked to pretend she wasn’t.
“Oh, look,” Kol exclaimed. “I guess Rebekah having a voice like nails on a blackboard has finally come in handy. Welcome back, Niklaus.”
“Is this a nightmare?” He managed to get out, his gaze trained on his younger siblings.
“Wow, you made a joke,” Rebekah cooed. “Looks like big brother is back with an even worse sense of humour.”
“Can I have some water,” he rasped, his throat dry, not to mention a splitting headache. “And as much as I love your comedy act, can we please keep the yammering to a minimum.”
“Oh, he’s definitely back,” Kol joked. “How about I get some water and you find the doctor, Beks?” She hated that nickname and her scowl confirmed it.
They both left the room and Klaus had to admit he was happy to enjoy the silence and just close his eyes for a moment.
Although he wasn’t at fault, Klaus knew he’d been off kilter for a few weeks now and might have had a slight lapse in concentration. It was bad enough he hadn’t seen Caroline since their argument but the worst part was that she didn’t even seem to want to try and make things work for them. She also seemed embarrassed for some reason and that hurt more than Klaus had imagined.
Sure, things started off fun and as much as Klaus liked that he knew things couldn’t continue that way. Yes, he was off to Oxford but he hoped that she’d offer to try rather than giving up. He even told her he loved her and nothing. To say he was hurt was an understatement.
“Oh my god,” he heard her voice, almost like he’d summoned her or something.
“Klaus.” He could hear the emotion and the slight wobble in her voice. “What have you done?” He heard her take a seat at his bedside and felt her take his hand. Klaus knew he should have opened his eyes but he was curious about what she might say.
“Please tell me the other guy looks worse and if not I’m going to kick his ass.” Klaus had to fight the urge not to smile. She was incredibly adorable when she was being jealous.
“Can you please just open those pretty eyes so we can talk? I want to tell you what an idiot I was last time I saw you.” As much as he wanted to do just that and gloat, Klaus stayed still waiting.
“Fine, if you’re going to be stubborn about it,” she muttered. “A couple of things.”
“One, I was an idiot and if you expect me to admit that when you’re conscious, think again. Two, I was scared about losing you and what we have because my family has these overwhelming expectations and I was trying to be all things to all people.” Klaus figured she was just about done and then she continued.
“Three, I want you and I want us and I love you and I really regret not saying that the other week. And finally, four, I got into Oxford and I really want to go but I don’t want you to think I’m some crazy weird stalker..”
“You got into Oxford?” His eyes flew open and he spoke before thinking, he was that shocked.
“You were awake the whole time?” She growled, squeezing his hand tightly.
“Ouch, Caroline.”
“You deserved it,” she insisted, before relenting and loosening her grip. “Yes, I got into Oxford.”
“And you love me?”
“Well, there’s no point in asking given you heard it all,” she muttered.
“And you were an idiot?”
“I’m never going to live that one down, am I?”
“Probably not,” he smiled, pulling her closer. “But I wouldn’t have you any other way. Hang on, aren’t you supposed to be competing right now?”
“I was but decided I needed to be here,” she replied. “I need to start doing more of what I want with my life. But don’t let it go to your head, Mikaelson.”
“Come up here,” he asked, pulling her onto the bed so she was laying beside him. She felt familiar, comfortable and like home. “I want to make up for the last few weeks.”
“You want to do it in the hospital bed?”
“No, but someone is clearly over eager,” he chuckled.
“I’m so glad I’m in a hospital right now because I’m going to be sick,” Kol groaned, walking into the room with the doctor and Rebekah on his heels.
His reaction was predictable but Klaus and Caroline didn't really care, they were far too immersed in each other to even respond. Not when they had a future to look forward to and, after all of the initial animosity, it was most definitely worth it in the end.

EPISODE 5 - “https://streamable.com/2bc03” - Beck
So, I have a very good idea as to what happened. Karen thought they were the one to go with their score, and successfully convinced everyone else to get rid of me. Either to get the gold or to get rid of me, I'm not sure. But I'm on to them. Make no mistake.
Well, to recap past round, Ben ended up winning the gold medal and returning to the game, which I really appreciate, so he'll be immune next tribal he attends, which am sure he is happy with. That led to Nik W being the next person eliminated. Then, as well at the arena, Stoner won the silver medal for his tribe, I won the Bronze medal for my tribe, then Pete won nothing. Today's immunity challenge was a maze, went into the maze thinking I should get a decent time, as I did mazes a bit as a kid, but then my dumb self didn't save the maze properly so had to redo it, then my internet decided to act up so had to refigure out lightshot which cost me more time. So I ended up with a really rough score, thankfully the 40% bonus will help a little, but I just feel bad and embarrassed by the time I got, and feel like if my tribe loses, it's going to be because of me. I can't even be too active tomorrow to discuss vote with people if my tribe loses as I am going back home tomorrow, which just makes matters even worse. So, at the moment, I don't feel too hot, but at the same time, I shouldn't let one bad round set me back either.
first loss as a new tribe, rip. I don’t know how this vote may go because i’ve chatted and bonded with everyone on this tribe, well except kevin and kinda nicole, and no one is really sticking out like an asshole. The new mari-whatever tribe has been just chill vibes which is nice but makes strategy much harder cus like what if they’re all secretly just agreed in getting me out? Who knows. I did talk with Landen and we agreed we wanna work together, he threw out the idea that he may be leaning towards voting out an old Shosha member and he hasn’t talked with Kevin or Nicole at all. I’m talking to Eve, Sammy, and Jacob C as well, maybe we could be a voting block...? We’ll see.
youtube
Sarah felt she’s in danger because of Billy trying to get her out last tribal. I can’t have Sarah out because her and I trust each other so then I think of this idea. Nik just got voted out, Billy is targeting Sarah now... what if I spread a rumor that Billy has a plan to pick off all the yujo members and has a hit list and is playing way too hard now? So basically i tell all my allies that eve and I are really scared because someone told us that Billy wants to pick off the yujo people for an easy vote these next few rounds in the hopes that people won’t trust him if he’s playing too hard like that and hopefully the word gets back to the sonkei tribe members.
So we have a problem, Eve and I are sticking together as former yujo so we let each other know what the other person has found out. So anyways I talk with Landen for a little while, I trust him, and he proposes this plan to vote out a former Shosha tribe member which i’m not against. He says he’s talked a little with Sammy and Jacob C too. So I let Eve know and she says interestingly enough she’s been talking to Nicole and Nicole proposed that her, Eve, Kevin, and myself all vote together and Eve says maybe against Landen. Eve also let’s me know that Nicole and Jacob C are very very close. So now Eve and I are split, I want to vote with Landen and get a Shosha tribe member out, she doesn’t wanna go against Nicole and wants to vote Landen out. We’re kinda the swing vote here and I want us to make the right decision.
tribal is getting closer and closer and nobody wants to make a decision! They’re ALL asking ME what to do which i guess is nice but i don’t want them all thinking of me as the decision maker this early. Right now it’s between landen or kevin going so i’m doing what i can to make sure everyone’s fine with writing Kevin’s name down.
Let's make this quick because I am obviously stressed as fuck and I just had the most whack ass dream about this game. In it, half this cast got kicked out of the game for being minors and it was actually a Facebook game, then we appealed it and held a whole trial bc some chick compared us to South African famous wanted murderers and we were offended so we held a trial and won the appeal and all the minors got back in the game but then there was instant tribal council and it was a live tribal and we were all whispering to send home someone named Charlotte who isn't even in this cast I... Yeah. So you can tell THAT'S how paranoid I am about this tribal council, my brain is driving me insane. We going in a million different directions!!! Anyway here's what happened last night. As SOON as I sent in my video confessional saying things are going to be fine, Pete messaged me (hilariously enough, he literally just messaged me with news AGAIN, but we'll get to that later.. it wasn't big enough to change the whole confessional) and said that things had blown up. Essentially what he told me was that Nicole is very close with Eve, but she's also very close with Jacob. Because of this those three kind of took control, and essentially Nicole wants to work with Eve/Pete/Kevin/Jacob. That would leave me and Sammy on the bottom. I knew as soon as I heard that, that Nicole's plan was to vote me out tonight. Jacob loves Sammy, so if they're working together closely, I'm the target, that much is obvious. So basically this entire day would be a race to make sure that we can sway Eve and/or Jacob and make sure the votes are on KEVIN, not on me. Because he doesn't talk to anyone. I gave my best pitch to Eve, but I don't think it worked that much, she doesn't like being in the middle. Nicole/Sammy/Jacob were all like "I'm at work" "i'm driving somewhere" "i'm at a party" lol we love excuses. I'm not buying your fake shit, you just don't want to talk to me. Notice how I said would be though.... Teehee! Well, turns out, I told Juls about all this madness, and my hero, the light of my life, has decided to help me out by giving me a Sit-out-at-tribal advantage! Not 100% sure how it works yet, I REALLY hope I get to make some dramatic play with it at tribal and actually talk about using it... But if not, I'm just glad for the safety. While I'm not 100% sure if it would be me or Kevin going home and if we could sway the votes, I'm not willing to risk my safety at the arena. It's just not going to happen. And I want to see how interesting things get when I return! So when it comes to this tribal, that's honestly my main plan. Sit out with Juls' advantage. Laugh as the fireworks play... Hope to GOD that Kevin, who probably gets sent home, dies in the Arena too. Gotta have faith he can be beat. I'm not amazing at challenges, good, but not confident enough that I'm willing to risk my spot in the Arena now that it's gotten down to all active people who are giving it their 100%. Notice how I said I'd make this quick but I didn't? Yeah this is a mess. So... tonight is going to be VERY. Very fun. You could even say it'll be a disaster..? For them, at least.
So, Darcy could prove to be a useful asset to bring close to the end. He voted for me last round, and he said he figured that'd reduce trust between us. Honestly, he's absolutely right, I want very little to do with him now, but I'm just "playing nice" until it's time to cut him out.
Billy is going. Kinda hope he comes back so we can win. Even if we don't it's nice to have an easy vote. I think I need to position myself just a little bit better here. Even if i'm not near the bottom, I need to act like it. I need to have chris and jordan's loyalty over emma. And Emma's over theirs. I need to be in the power position, without being viewed that way. Me not going on skype might help that perception. I'm good at these challenges, this one not included, so I should be solid going forward.
youtube
i’m playing a spreading info game.... is it gonna get me in trouble? maybe! it might! but it could also get me far so high risk high reward. please pray that the info i’m leaking doesn’t get tacked back to me
This first part of the game for me has been some of the worst gameplay that I've ever displayed. I've received votes every single tribal, I've made no strong connections, the only guy I trusted 100% got his ass voted out, and I'm sitting in the Arena for the second time. It makes you wonder how the fuck I do this shit without breaking down. Well, that's sort of what I did. I broke down after that tribal man, hard. I fkn hate getting emotional man but it felt like complete SHIT being alone and neglected. Truth is, every way I put it, even though I don't wanna admit it, I got no one but myself to blame. What I need in this game is a reset button. When I come back, and I WILL come back from that arena, I need to start a clean slate and get all that chaos the fuck outta there...for now. Fuck I need to win that arena. So bad. When I go back to Sonkei, Imma make sure that I'm the one on top.
So for starters, my tribe won immunity the other day, so we got the tribal break we deserved! Now, waiting on arena, where Juls from my tribe, Landen from Miraitowa, and Jordan from Sonkei are competing for Silver and Bronze, then Pete and Billy are competing for the gold. In which, my ideal scenario is Billy winning the gold and coming back, as I feel like he could be a potential ally I could have come another swap or merge if him and I make it there together. Then I'd want Juls to win the silver, since it'd be helpful for next challenge for yushu, then can potentially win another immunity! Preferably in this scenario, Landen wins the Bronze, just so that one of the other tribes don't end up coming back with two medals. Anyways, this game is fun, and I made final 19, now to see if I can find anything in Olympic Village this next round, as I have still yet to find something.
I'm going to go ahead and try to improve this situation slightly. I think I have the makings of a fantsatic position, it just needs to be perfect. Billy and Emma fighting at tribal while Chris was doing his own thing pretty much sums up everything I needed. I need either Chris or Jordan to be my new #1. Jordan appears to be a paranoid nut, Chris is the opposite. I tend to have greater successes with the paranoid nut, but who knows. They need to like me back, which is easier said than done. If Billy comes back we are likely winning the challenge. We won't of course, cause that's who we are, but who knows. My semester starts up tomorrow, which is going to harm my activity a tad, and I'm already not that active, but we'll see how that influences anything.
I DID IT I DID IT I FUCKING DID IT THEY ALL THOUGHT ID JUST BE A FORGETTABLE PREJURY BOOT ID SUCK AT ARENA AND BE DONE AND GUESS WHAT IVE NEVER DONE ANY SKYPE ORGS BEFORE AND I STILL FUCKING DID IT SCREW YOU JACOB C SCREW YOU SAMMY SCREW YOU NICOLE AND SCREW YOU KEVIN I AM HERE BECAUSE I FOUGHT FOR IT AND I FUCKING WANTED IT BAD AND I TOOK OUT BILLY TO BE HERE!!! HELL FUCKIN YEAH DUDE IM NOT PLAYING NICE WITH ANY OF THESE BITCHES ANYMORE
I’ll do a video later. Billy got voted out which was unfortunate as I really like billy and vibe with him but it doesn’t make sense to flip when I think I’m in a good position right now. I had a good convo with Sarah, really vibe with her. I have my alliance with Jordan, Jacob, and Em which I feel good about they’re just real quiet. Need to talk to them more 1 on 1. I have my duo with Pines that I feel real confident about. I hope that’s not my downfall this game but I think pines and I are gonna do great things.
https://streamable.com/2bc03 - pete wins the gold medal.mp4
Well baby dolls, basically eve tried to exclude me from an alliance but I beat that bitch to the punch! And my fearsome foursome played her like a fiddle while she thought I was going home unanimous in all actuality we had the upper hand and dropped the hammer on Pete 4-2, with Landen volunteering for the arena Eve was left to fend for herself for cute little 24 hours and chaos ensued when she realized what happened hopping between calls and chats to damage control for her lack of judgement in including me into things, therefore she feels on the outs and while I was a part of this scheme and to an extent playing a role of the victim who found solace in a group of three who wanted to vote for me, all of which is false, I’m still using these moments to rebuild a bridge I never knew got burned to ashes so she can potentially INCLUDE me in things going forward, after all we’re both out of the loop right? ;)
Tribal was quite spicy. Nobody reacted to Stoner rolling a blunt while em and billy were arguing and my soul left my body from trying not to laugh. Just found out Billy is not coming back, which honestly whew, because I feel like he'd come back with some vengeance. He's probably a good team player normally, but my only impression was..not great! Hopefully we can come together as a tribe now and aim to NOT go to tribal in the first place. Although I still feel like, entering into this new tribe, there are many, many layers. Salty, spicy layers. Like a delicious onion dip.
Nicole, watch your ass.
So let me backtrack to before tribal. You’re probably wondering how I got here! *record scratch* Anyway, so we constructed a tribe to have a 4-3 majority, and in doing that there was always going to come a day where when we lost we would have to choose who was going to go between Pete, Eve and Landen. I feel badly because, they’re newbies and obviously putting a reasonable effort into this game BUT, it’s the name of the game, if the returnees didn’t band together we were going to get picked off and have a hard time like Karen is on their tribe. Anyway, so the day comes and we have to go to tribal. NONE of the newbies talked to me about game before we lost. I need to point that out. As soon as we lost Eve said “what the hell are we gonna do now”....m’am! WE? WHO’S WE? anyway, I played along and was just about to tell her we were going to vote out Pete when she says she was on a tribe with Pete and could make a good number for us. She says I can pull in Jacob...Jacob can pull in Sammy...hold on a minute. Are we leaving out Kevin? WHY DOES EVERYONE HATE KEVIN? This might as well be a Home Alone sequel because they’re leaving Kevin out of EVERYTHING! or at least that’s what I’m being told (more on that later). So I don’t want any weird advantages to get pulled out of anyone’s pocket at tribal and so I obviously go along with it, I say everyone is fine, Jacob will vote with them, we hate Kevin. Basically whatever we need to do. Honestly, I don’t feel bad. You can’t not talk to people for a full two rounds and then decide when you lose you now have a majority. Anyway so, good thing we kept the Pete vote a secret! Because I feel like Eve would have been able to make whoever had the advantage (Juls, I think) use it on Pete and then we would have been REALLY screwed. Anyway, it worked out. We voted for Pete. He left. Eve yelled. The more than curious thing that happened after the vote that makes me second guess my whole alliance is the fact that Beck came out of nowhere and told me that Sammy knew about the advantage because Juls was talking about it on a call (WHICH IS AGAINST THE RULES BC SHES AT THE ARENA BUT I GUESS WE JUST FORGET THAT PART FOR NOW BECAUSE THERES A BIGGER POINT) Anyway, in short I need to focus on keeping more info for myself and not telling my alliance. I’m used to having a ride or die alliance that I can pour info into like I did with Kinky Booties in Seychelles. I knew that info was going to aid in me going forward. Here I’m not so sure. They could literally vote me out next if they want me and push Eve into my spot because she’s a newbie and in that way, less of a threat. But anyway I tell Beck, as I’m telling them, Beck keeps writing to me as if he is being instructed to tell me more info. I don’t know if it was Juls (again, against the f*ing rules, these newbies are..!!!) or if it was someone in the alliance, maybe Jacob or Kevin. I wouldn’t think Sammy but, I don’t know. Anyway I don’t feel safe, and I’ve beat my lowest placement that I’ve ever gotten BUT, that doesn’t mean I want to get out just yet. I don’t feel good about winning this game but I would like to make it onto a jury for once (I’m always at FTC if I get past premerge 🥳) That’s all I got so far, check back in for my MENTAL BREAAAAK after immunity results for next round bc if we lose, I’m gonna cry. I can’t deal with this again, especially since the whole Pete situation has been pawned off on me.
SO we ended up switching the vote within the last few hours to save Karen <3! Karen made a push to save herself by going after one of the OG Blue tribe (Ben) and I was fine with the vote since me and Beck had already been in the works to blindside him in the future and since I think Karen will be more reliable at the moment I was willing to stick my neck out if Juls and Caeleb were down for the plan. With that being said I left it in their hands to make the decision so that it feels like I'm with them and shows them as power players to Beck. As soon as they made the decision I ran to Beck with the news so that he would be in the minority and for him to tell Darcy. I ended up voting Karen because I knew she would be safe but I wanted to create doubt and paranoia in everyone's mind on who voted with Ben and I think I wouldn't be the first suspect you think of. Only a subtle move. For the arena I was rooting for Billy to win to cause chaos on the Sonkei tribe and so that Pete would go home because I think Pete might become a big threat and I rather he be out now than later. Also apparently Juls used the exile to make Landen safe from their tribal council it was obvious they were each other's #1 but now other people are starting to see it. I think that we need to put an end to it because she's telling people like Sammy about her power who she's not even on a tribe with, so it shows she's planning on jumping ship the moment she's not on this tribe. Juls NEEDS to go home. I'm gonna push for her to go home this round, next time I'm on call with Beck I'm gonna try to convince him his best move is to get rid of Juls so that way a big threat is outta the game, and it makes the game that much smoother sailing. It might upset Caeleb but honestly I find people like Darcy and Karen very easy to work with and willing to work closely with me in the long term in comparison to himself or Juls. So my plan is to try and get Beck to consider going after Juls stating how she is not going to be loyal to us come a swap unlike Karen or Darcy would be.
I, big dumb dumb, would like to retract and apologize about what I said about Beck and Juls bc when Beck told me I actually did message Juls saying I’m stressed and it didn’t occur to me that I ALSO BROKE THE RULES. I turned myself in but, yeah......it’s way harder to remember not to talk to people than I realized. Shame on me for JUDGING THEM for being newbies and not knowing how to follow the rules. This is the opposite of my proudest moment lmao
Whew what a round. BIlly is gone and honestly gonna miss the guy, I think he would have been a great shield for me at early merge, but im not too bothered by it, because Pete is somoene I think I can work with, so like good either way with this one. If we go to tribal again I am going to be in a very awkward position. Because I dont want to vote out sarah and I think the rest of the tribe does, meaning Im gonna need to make a decision if she is gonna be expendable to me or not. ideally we win until a swap but judging by our performances so far... I wouldnt count on it. I think if we did lose Id convince stoner to work with Sarah and to take out one of emma or jacob. I liek them both but at this point Im running out of options. Im sure theyd do the same in my shoes. I'd like a tribe swap, but in the same sense Im a lil scared of a tribe swap too haha.

This is a part of my Niklas Stark and Samantha series fic. But they are a stand alone, one shot fic. Hope you like it.
---
The game against Bayern was really, really tough. Both teams could feel that given the fact that a 1-1 draw was the result of their match. For Bayern, it was a stumbling block, a stain on their record as of the moment, while for Hertha, it was worth it. Drawing with the record champions was great but doing it on Bayern’s Allianz Arena is making it more special; a feat rarely seen in the games.
But for one particular person, that tough match will be marked in his mind in another way. As the match ends, so is when he noticed a stinging pain on his left knee. He looked down and see that wounded knee dripping specks of small blood. He was limping a bit going towards the medics.
The celebration of their draw in the locker rooms is lying low already when he arrived from being treated. His friends Davie and Max looked at him with worry and he just grinned at them.
“Hey bro. How was it?” Davie asked Niklas, hanging his arm softly around the tall blonde boy’s shoulders.
“I’m fine. There’s nothing to worry about. It’s only a scratch and nothing more.” Niklas assured and Davie just smiled back in relief and so as Max.
Time passes by and they left Munich for Berlin. On the ride home (by the plane), Max woke up in his nap and saw Nik’s a bit grimacing face. Max tried to get Davie’s attention of the other side of the aisle just beside them, succeeded and pointed towards their friend.
“Are you okay Nik?” Max asked.
“Yeah. I’m fine. My knee hurts a bit. It’s stinging.” Niklas said.
“I’ll remove the blanket okay.” Max said and lifted the blanket covering his friend’s legs. Nik was using shorts to ease his legs. “The bandage is soaked. It needs to be replaced.” Max recommended.
“It’s okay. I’ll just fix it when I arrive home.” Niklas interrupted.
“Are you sure?” and Niklas nods.
---
They arrived at Berlin and went to their own cars. Max and Davie were still looking at their friend contemplating to just accompany him to a hospital to be treated.
“Nik?” Davie said.
“I’m fine Davie. I can manage to get safely home. I’ll call you if something happens.” Niklas started to get annoyed and that is what the two friends do not want to happen.
“Okay. We will let you. Be careful.” Davie replied.
“I’m not dying and it’s just a scrape in the knee.” Niklas smiled back at them and went on.
---
Niklas was halfway through driving when he felt his knee hurt and bit numbing. He remembered that his friends told him to call them if anything happens but he does not want to worry them more so he decided to go to another person because where he is now is much nearer than his home. Blocking his thoughts of the pain in his knees he went on his way.
He arrived in the house he intends to stop by for help and knocks on the front door and the door opens.
“Hey Sam.” Niklas said smiling at the woman who opened the door for him.
“Nik! You’re here now. Come in.” Samantha gestured and Niklas went in.
And as the door closed, Nik pecked her lips and hugged her and realized that he is not his house.
“Oh shoot!” Niklas said.
“It’s okay. Annie and Andrew are not here. They went first to Basel for our family trip. I had to follow tomorrow afternoon since I have to finish things in the office earlier this day. I saw the game, it was so intense and…” Sam pulled Nik softly towards the couch and then noticed Niklas’ bleeding knee. “Oh my lord! Your knee! It’s still bleeding!”
“Yeah. About that?”
“I know. Sit down there. I’ll get the kit.” Samantha said and went to get the first aid kit she has.
Niklas sighed and looked at his knee then Samantha was back. Sitting down on the floor and opened the kit. “Let’s see that wound.” Sam said and removed the bandage slowly.
Niklas winced at bit because of the pain and some of his leg hairs plucked sticking on the plaster.
“Gosh, it’s getting blue because of the contusion. I’ll get some ice and put it here for a while.”
Sam got up get an ice pack and then returned. She rolled Niklas shorts’ sleeve a little higher on his muscular and hairy legs and applied the pack. She also noticed the big bulge on Nik’s shorts but didn’t mind it. Nik closes his eyes due to the sting and lay back on the couch. Sam then wiped the area clean and applied a new bandage. When she finished dressing Nik’s wound, she noticed a twitching motion in between Nik’s shorts and it’s larger now. She knows Nik is very well endowed that it always shows when he’s using tight pants or his jersey shorts and knows the difference in the size and manner of Nik’s junior. She looked at his face a bit flustered and discomforted. She just smirked and asked her guy.
“Are you okay? You seem to be in pain.” She asked.
“I’m fine. I’m still adjusting to the discomfort.” Nik said with his closed eyes.
“Is it because of the bandage? Is it too tight? I can loosen it.” Sam asked.
“N-no. It’s okay. Thanks.” Niklas replied.
“Or is it tight in here?” Sam asked again and palmed Nik’s tent in the shorts and the boy moaned and she smirked. “I guess we have to let it loose.” She said slyly and palmed him more until it twitched again.
“Please.” Niklas said.
Sam went to the waist band of the boy’s shorts and pulled it slowly down his ankles not letting the wounded knee be touched. The emboss of Niklas dick on his boxer briefs is long that it’s sideways and almost poking out on the lower sleeve. Sam did not waste time and removed the underwear as well swiftly just below his crotch and his dick slapped in his stomach. He sighed in comfort.
“Someone’s relieved.” Sam commented.
“Not yet.” Nik whined.
Sam continued to pull his underwear slowly in the same manner as his shorts and then opened Nik’s leg more so that she could be closer to his thing in between it.
She started her ministration by licking the tip downwards the shaft through the protruding vein.
Unconsciously Nik puts his hands on her head, gripping it firmly as she gives him a blow. It was too much pleasure for him. It’s been a while since he jerked or even slept with her.
“Ugh. Sam. I’m…” Nik stutters and Samantha stopped. She stands up and leaned down pulling on Nik’s shirt and removed him of his last garment. She then removed hers as well, standing naked in front of him. They’re both so turned on and there’s nothing more to do but go all the way. Nik swallows the lump on his throat and his cock twitches to his discomfort being so hard and precum starts to show. She goes back to him and straddled sitting his lap and whispered to his ear.
“Let me do the job.” She said.
“Okay.” He replied.
Sam rested her head on his shoulders and palmed for his cock and lined it up her entrance she lifts herself a bit then stab herself with Nik’s cock.
“Mm!” she moaned surprisingly and loudly biting her lips.
“Ah! Too! Tight!” Niklas exclaimed with his hands grabbing he back towards him.
Sam pulled herself up slowly leaving the head inside and thrust back slowly. Both are gasping in pleasure until Nik’s entire large dick is inside her.
“You okay?” He asked pushed her away from his torso to see her and she nodded.
She puts her hands on his shoulders and started pulling up and pushing down against her guy’s member on a steady pace then speeds a bit as the pleasure increases. Nik does not know where to place his hands so he just let it slide on her back, to the front on her breasts, to her legs and vice versa. Their sweat starts to show and mix up and both are feeling that they are reaching their high.
“Nik! You’re so thick and big!” she exclaimed.
“I’m almost close!” he said in his grit.
She increased her pace on riding him making Nik scream in pleasure.
“Come Nik! Please! Come! Do it inside!” she said.
“I-I-I! AAAAAAH!” Nik screamed, locking her legs and hips down on him as he lets out his load inside her deeply making her scream as her peak reaches at as well with him. He lay back on the couch while she falls down on his chest both gasping for air after their intense orgasm.
It took a while for them to recover and when they did it was Sam who first removed herself looking down to where they are connected, dripping wet with his and her cum. She almost stumbled down trying to stand up firmly.
“You? Okay?” Nik asked in between his breaths.
“Yeah. I’ll---I’ll just get towels and dress your wound again. It bled.” She said and left then returning with towels and a pair of shirt and shorts for Niklas and wiped each other’s bodies and she dressed his wound again.
“Just stay for the night Nik. You should have your knee rested. Just go home tomorrow.” She said as she wears her clothes again.
“Okay. I really should rest here…After what happened.” He smirked and she just blushed.
She pulled Nik from the couch and helps him wear the borrowed clothes and pulled her towards the bedroom.
“You made me use these clothes; probably your husbands and now you will let me sleep on your marital bed?”
“He does not use that anymore and you will not fit on my daughter’s bed and I won’t let you sleep in the couch and feel more pain by the morning.” She said.
“Like any mother should be.” Nik rolled his eyes.
“Is that a compliment or an insult?” she asked.
“Depends on how you understand it.” He replied.
“Dork.” She smiled at him and he did in return.
They settled in the bed with her spooning him to relax his knee and drifted to sleep.

War of Hearts : Alpha!Roman Reigns x Reader x Future Alpha!Braun Strowman Part 1/?
A/N: Ok so this is a series I’ve been working on. 1. Because I love Braun Strowman and Roman Riegns and 2. I love the whole werewolf AU. And 3 I’m a sucker for soulmate AUs😫It’s my first time ever writing something like this so please be gentle. I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea ☕️ Tagging my babes because they continue to inspire me and encourage me. I love you guys 🖤🖤 Pairings: Alpha!Roman Reigns x Reader ; Future Alpha!Braun Strowman x Omega!Reader Warnings: Cursing maybe? Angstish (like internally, it’s a love triangle people), Fluff, A/B/O dynamics Summary: Becoming a women’s wrestler is never easy, especially as an Omega. Finding love is even harder. Will you find love in one or will fate throw you to the wolves? Follow this story as the reader goes into battle in a “War of Hearts”.
“I can’t help but be wrong in the dark ‘Cause I’m overcome in this war of hearts”
Being an omega was never easy but thanks to my family and Grade A suppressants I managed it. It was extremely hard because on top of all that I was a pro wrestler trying to make my way up the ranks without the help of my superstar big brother Daniel Bryan or The Bella’s who were practically my sisters.
“So, what’s it like?” Nikki asked.
“Being on suppressants? I don’t know. Ok… so you know how during your heat all you want is the ’D’ but the only thing that can quell it is a knot?”
“Yeah…”
“Well the suppressants help it so that all I need is the ’D’ and it can be attached to some nice little Beta and not some asshole Alpha. It also helps me not be a slave to my own body. Just because I’m an omega, doesn’t mean I need an Alpha to function.”
“Of course, not Babe. You’re a strong independent omega!”
“Nik not so loud, would ya? Most people still think I’m a Beta and I’d like to keep that way.”
“Why hun you should be proud of who and what you are. “I couldn’t help but sigh at her comment.
"I am, Nik. It’s not how I feel about it. It’s how
others perceive me when they find out that bothers me. Alphas only want me hanging off their knots and Betas look down at me as if that is all I want as well.” I replied somberly.
“Hey (Y/N). I’m sorry I didn’t mean it like that I promise.”
“I know you didn’t Nikki. Hey, can I ask you a question?”
“Shoot.”
“What’s it like to find your true mate. Like with you and John. What was that whole experience like?”
“Gosh girl, I don’t think there are enough hours in the day to explain what it felt like but I’ll try my best.” She giggles before turning serious. “You know how everyone has their own scent and some are more appealing than others?”
“Yes, but with my suppressants a lot of other people’s scent have been dulled to me.”
“Really?” she paused for a split second shaking her head “I mean, as I was saying when you finally meet your true mate, or at least when I met John he smelt otherworldly. The first whiff had my wolf screaming, girl. She kept repeating things like mate, and home, and mine. The scent itself smelt like pinewoods and musk. Man, just thinking about it… whoo.” She had to stop and fan herself at the thought of her own true mate.
“Nikki!” I squealed.
“Sorry, hun. I can’t help it. Anyways that’s just the smell. When we touched, my body was set ablaze. Like first heat times 100.” I shuddered at the thought.
Every omega’s first heat is the cruelest. I was lucky enough to be in the comfort of my own home with suppressants on standby. While my family always thought I’d present as an omega, I was kind of a late bloomer.
“(Y/N/N) did you hear what I said?”
I sheepishly looked down shaking my head mouthing an 'I’m sorry’.
“What I was saying is that you also go into an instant heat and your mate goes into an instant rut to push the mating process. And if you don’t couple you’ll be in the most excruciating pain you’ve ever been in. Just driving to the hotel was a feat for me and John. What’s made you so curious about this all the sudden?”
“I don’t honestly know. I just know I’m getting older and still haven’t found my mate. Part of me wonders if the whole true mate thing is even real. Or maybe I just don’t have one you know?”
Nikki was having none of that. She practically lunged from her spot on the couch to pummel me in a big hug, scent marking me in a comforting manner. Omega instincts at its finest.
“He’s out there Babydoll. I just know it. And besides today’s a day of celebration remember? Your Raw debut is tomorrow and me, Brie, and Daniel couldn’t be prouder. You’ve worked so hard on your own, taking absolutely no hand outs and you’re finally here. So, no time for being sad. We have take- out on the way to the house as well as Brie and Daniel. Then we’re going to watch your favorite movie while we eat ice cream, standard pre-match ritual.”
I couldn’t help but smile because ever since I could remember, whether it be my brother or one of the Bella’s, they always spent a movie night in with me before one of our big matches. Now here was one of my biggest matches to date and all three of them were going to celebrate it with me. I love my little pack and couldn’t ask for a better family.
To my surprise even John Cena, Nikki’s Alpha, came to support our pack tradition. He really was a great addition and the love I saw between the two always inspired me and gave me hope that one day I would find a worthy Alpha.
The night went off without a hitch and even ended up with all of us in a puppy pile in the middle of the floor surrounded by pillows and blankets.
The one omega trait I could never seem to shake, even as a pup, was cuddling or puppy piling when I could convince the pack. I guess that’s why my parents thought I’d present as an Omega eventually. Most days I was either cuddled between one of the couples or koala beared on the back of one of my pack mates. It was just one of those quirks I was known for. I mean I’m the baby of the pack, what did they expect? This also earned me my nickname Babydoll which most people even outside my pack would called me. Hell, even Stephanie McMahon referred to me as Babydoll. It also didn’t help that that was also my in-ring persona. And while most people’s in ring personas were a complete 180 to real life. I was just me and I love it that way.
The morning of my debut was spent at the gym for a light training session with my big brother, making sure I had all my submission moves down to the letter. I even made him genuinely tap out a few times, which had my confidence through the roof.
The rest of the morning was spent getting coffee and getting to the performance arena in a timely manner. Being a newbie meant having to get there early so that Steph could give me a quick rundown of how tonight was going to go. I was thrilled when they told me, my match was going to be a tag team match with Sasha and I versus Charlotte and Dana. And to top it off I was slated to pin Charlotte in a submission move, my brother’s yes lock, for the win. To say I was nervous was an understatement.
After the rundown with Steph and the pleasantries exchanges with the girls I was carded off to The Bella’s dressing room for hair and makeup.
Being the baby of the pack had its perks, I was spoiled beyond belief. The girls’ excuses were always 'for my protection’. And to some extent I would agree. Being submerged into a new environment where pack dynamics are almost nonexistent, it’s hard to find your place. To top it off my sense of smell is not as sharp as it should be so I wasn’t able to sniff out the good from the bad.
So, I was totally fine with being sequestered to the Bella’s locker room it was safe and I felt protected there.
“Knock, Knock. Can I come in?” It was Sasha.
“Of course, girl. I just finished putting on the final touches to my makeup. How do I look?”
Sasha was one of the few people I knew from the main roster. We spent a lot of time together during developmental. During my time there we were practically attached at the hip. We were so close in fact, she knew my true presentation.
Sasha was a beta with an Alpha complex, basically she was chill until someone tried to mess with her friends because then all bets were off. I cherished our friendship and I missed her dearly when she was moved up the main roster. But now here we were together again and on the same brand!
The next thing I knew Sasha was suffocating me in a bone crushing hug. As I hugged her back with as much enthusiasm, a foreign smell hit my senses prompting me to ask, “Sash what is that smell? Are you wearing a new perfume?”
She looked at me strangely, “ No…. Why?”
“I’m not sure I just got a whiff of something, is all.”
“What do you mean? I thought you said your suppressants dull your sense of smell.”
“They do that’s why I was wondering. But never mind. I can’t believe I’m here! I finally made it! And I get my best friend back!”
“Oh, Babydoll you never lost me, you know that.” She said rubbing my back.
“Yea but this is different. I’m seeing you in the flesh. And now we get to hang out just like old times.”
Sasha and I spent our time catching each other up on certain things we missed in each other’s lives, everything from matches to romantic rendezvous.
“I can’t believe you actually went out with him (Y/N)! What happened to your rule of no Alphas unless he’s the Alpha!”
“Hey, I don’t regret it. Roman is amazing and besides I gained an amazing friend because of it!”
Even though I had a thing about staying away from most Alphas, something about Roman drew me in. Roman and I had been on a few dates together and he was an amazing kisser to say the least but we both realized really early on that we were just meant to be friends, almost like platonic soulmates. Even though I was losing hope on the whole true mate Alpha thing, I still didn’t want to give myself over to someone who wasn’t my Alpha. Both of us were so in tuned to one another it was crazy that we weren’t true mates. Best parts about Roman though was the fact that he was a great cuddle buddy and more often than not he would scent mark me so other asshole Alphas would stay away.
“I don’t care what you say I still ship it.”
I couldn’t help but stick my tongue out at my best friend more than anything, I was just glad to have her back.
“Okay, so if not Roman. I should ask. Do you still have that school girl crush on Braun?”
“OMG Sasha!” I shoved at her shoulder. I can’t believe she brought up the “Braun” thing.
“Ok first of all Sash it wasn’t a school girl crush. I merely wondered who he was. He’s the 'Monster among men’. Can you blame me?”
I had seen Braun once in my life but have never even spoken to him, while I have seen his matches and think he’s an amazing athlete. I’ve never even spoken two words to him.
I was in the states from a stint in Japan and I had promised Sasha I would visit. I was trying to hone my craft across seas while my best friend was training in the new NXT performance center of WWE. I was so proud of her and missed her like crazy so I stopped in Florida before going home to Arizona where I had stayed part time in with my brother, Bryan and his amazing wife Brie, in their new home. Even Josie their French Bulldog was one of my favorites.
That experience at the performance center was otherworldly, not because of “Braun” but just because it motivated me even more to make it to WWE. It was also the first time I met my Samoan superman of a best friend.
As I was kicking Sasha’s butt around the ring and trying to help hone her new submission move, the Banks Statement, I was also showing her possible opponent counters. What can I say I had made a name for myself as a submission specialist and grappler, having learned from all over the world. So, as I have her in a counter of a modified version of the black widow. Mind you I’m upside down. I see this amazing hulk of a man walking in and I nearly lose my breath. It wasn’t the size or stature, he didn’t hold himself menacingly. In fact, he looked quite sweet. His scent is what had me breathless, he must have felt me staring cause as he walked by us, we made eye contact. My heart nearly stopped right then and there. I immediately released my best friend not wanting to be seen in such a graceless state.
I couldn’t be more thankful for my scent blockers because damn did he scream Alpha. The fact that I could smell him was saying something.
Breaking eye contact I turn to make sure I didn’t pull back Sasha’s arm too bad.
“Hey girl you ok?”
“Yeah but what happened? You stopped before I could counter.”
I couldn’t help it when my eyes cut to Braun only for him to be looking back at me unashamed smiling sweetly instead of a typical douche smirk most men in general throw my way.
Blushing immediately I break eye contact but not before I see a damn smirk come into view and damn it if I didn’t actually like it.
Sasha caught the whole interaction even shaking her head at Braun who simply answered with a shrug.
“Babydoll, is there something you want to ask me?” Sasha asked fluttering her eyelashes in quick succession.
“Who’s that?” I muttered knowing full well she heard me.
“I’m sorry but you’re going to have to speak up, Baby.”
“You know what let’s forget it we have work to do my flight is tonight so I’m limited on time. Plus, I’m not gonna worry myself about someone I may never see again anyways.” I huffed trying to get back to sparring.
“Ok miss priss but his name is Braun Strowman and he a nice gentlemanly southern Alpha. But he’s with that bleach blonde over there starring daggers at your head. Her names Dana and she is one bitchy Beta with an omega complex.”
That explained a lot. While most betas took on a slight Alpha complex there were some, mainly women, who would take sort of an omega complex to seem more appealing to Alphas. Why? I had no idea, being an omega sucked sometimes, it’s why I take military grade suppressants.
“Like I said no time to worry about anyone but myself.”
And that’s how that conversation ended as you and Sasha started to spar again going back and forth between submissions and counters.
All the while a hulking Alpha looking on majorly impressed. And a bitchy blonde seething.
“Okay. Okay. Whatever you say. But! There is something I never got to tell you about that day.”
“What’s that?”
“After you left he came up to me and asked about you.”
Fighting my blush like my life depended on it I scoffed and said, “So what?”
“It’s so cute how you think you can fool me, you know that? Anyways…. he had asked me if you were an omega.”
My heart stopped upon hearing that. No one absolute no one should be able to sniff me out as an omega…. well except for my true mate….
I shook myself out of such dangerous thoughts.
“Sash how are you so relaxed about that and are now just telling me. You know there is no way in hell he should have been able to scent my placement.”
I look to my best friend trying to find some sense of understanding and then I see her light bulb go off.
“Omg! I never even thought of that (Y/N)! Omg stupid beta brain.”
“Wait so what did you say?” I asked panicked.
“I told him no that you were a Beta but he never did look quite convinced when I said that, come to think of it.”
“Sash what else, what else did he want to know?” I urged my best friend to talk faster.
“Nothing just who you were and where you were from, in fact he seemed real interested about you until Dana came sniffing around. I swear that girl needs a reality check.”
“I’m kinda freaking out here girl…. you don’t think…. this whole true mate thing is true, do you?”
“You’re seriously asking ME that?”
“I’m sorry I just …. idk I’m just really on the verge of a mental breakdown.”
A knock at the door broke me from my hysterics.
“Who’s that?!”
“Calm down girl, it’s probably just Roman. He asked where we were and I told him.”
As if he could fell my panic and was Superman to the rescue. I immediately felt a hundred times better even with the whole looming true mate business. Something about Roman just soothes my soul to its core. Before Sasha could get the door open I was bum rushing my Samoan Superman.
“Roman!” I squealed.
Pummeling into one of his bear hugs I totally took advantage, arms around the neck and legs around the waist practically gluing myself to his essence.
He just chuckled into the scent gland on my neck, expecting nothing less from me, kissing it before mumbling a quiet, “Hey Babygirl.” And I shivered at his touch.
“Ugh you guys need to get a room you’re disgusting.” Came from behind him the one and only Nikki Bella.
“Aww Nik why can’t I just borrow yours.”
“Eww no way I don’t want all of that rubbing up on all my shit.” She grimaced.
“Not all of it Nik. Just the couch, maybe the table right Roman?” I look up beaming with mischief as I stare into his beautiful gray eyes. Eyes that could calm any storm brewing within me.
“Behave, Babygirl.” He laughed swatting my butt in a reprimanding nature.
“Again eww.”
“Okay Nikki we get it but let the girl live she hasn’t seen him in months and tonight’s her debut.” Brie, always the voice of reason.
Roman walked us over to the awaiting couch, keeping me koala-beared to him, as the girls and Bryan all settled into the dressing room.
Making sure to cuddle as close to my Samoan teddy bear as possible I look to the twins and ask, “So how much longer until we need to head down to the gorilla?”
“They said they’d come and get us but I would say about 20-30 minutes.” Brie answered.
“Dang it and I just got comfortable.” I pouted towards Roman.
“No pouting baby girl.” He flicked my bottom lip, “You need to get up and get warm.”
Tucking into his neck further I mumbled, “But I am warm.”
“You know what I mean” he rumbled.
“Get that booty up and let’s get to stretching.” Nikki came and landed a swift smack on my butt for emphasis on her way out the doors with the others.
Relenting I looked towards Roman, “Scent me for good luck?”
“Of course, baby girl but wait til we get to gorilla okay?”
“Fine.” I pouted.
“Why are you in such a pouting mood babe? It’s your debut, you should be over the moon!”
“I am! I just missed you Ro and I don’t know I’m nervous as hell. Like I just want to curl up in a ball and demand that you hold me.”
“As appealing as that sounds… that’s gonna have to wait until later.” He replies leaving a lingering kiss to my temple.
“Love you,” he whispered as he pulled back.
“I love you too Superman.”
What no one knew about me and Roman was we were sort of more than just friends, while it never went past making out physically there was a deep and intense emotional bond. In fact, a couple years back I made a pact with him if I didn’t find my true mate by my Birthday of this year I would start a mate ship with him and eventually let him claim me as his omega.
It wasn’t an uncommon thing in our world many betas had mate ships with Alphas and many omegas took Alphas that were not considered their true mate.
Unfortunately, many of those omegas would find their true mate Years down the line and make things very complicated within pack dynamic. Trying to live without your true mate once you found them was like living without half of yourself. And that was a fate I’d hope to never face. While Roman was not my true mate I knew deep within my soul I could not live without him. Why, I may never know and with this whole Braun issue I was really scared that I would have to learn how to live without him sooner rather than later.
“Babygirl? You ok in there?” Roman asked, tapping me on my forehead for emphasis.
“Something on your mind?”
“Nothing just thinking. I’m scared.” I whimpered into his neck.
“Scared of what babe? The match? You’re gonna do great. It’s in your blood.” He reassured while rubbing my back.
“Not about that. About us…”
“What about us? We’re good and in six months we will be even better.”
“A lot can happen in six months! What if I find him and then I’ll lose you forever. I can’t lose you Ro. I know you’re not my true mate but we are connected on a soul level and I-I…” I couldn’t stop the tears that broke through that time.
“Shhh hey Babygirl. Listen to me I’m not going anywhere. Yes, a lot can happen in six months. But the one thing you will never have to worry about is losing me.” Gently he leaned down and started kissing my tears away making sure to leave one lasting and loving wet kiss on my lips.
“Promise?”
“Promise. I love you Babygirl, more than my own life.”
“I love you too Superman. To the moon and back.”
“Good now let’s go we can’t keep everyone waiting, now can we?”
“I suppose not.” I giggled into his chest. Before getting up and catching everyone near the gorilla I caught Roman by the scruff of his neck and kissed the breath out of him. I made sure to make it count because in my gut I knew it could be one of our lasts.
“Babygirl…” Roman panted, “What was that?”
“What was what?” I answered cheekily, giving one more quick kiss before rushing out to catch up with my friends and family but not before I heard Roman say, “You little minx. You’re going to be the death of me.”

plz tell me about nik having a soulmate
HELLO I survived calling five different people and emailing a doctor today, so I’m actually going to talk about Several Soulmates as a treat for myself. Please be advised of spoilers for the DFZ and Heartstriker books.
Opal and Nik, they were born with their soulmarks--or, rather, Opal was born with hers, and Nik’s scribbled itself onto his chest when he was a little more than a year old. For Opal, it’s a problem right away. The letters scratched up her inner arm are too small for even dragon eyes to read the what are you doing back here? i heard you got sold a coffin when she’s born, but it doesn’t take reading them to know that they’re in English. The Great Yong brushes a bare thumb down the string of letters and his hand comes away marked with brilliant blue, and decides to do his best not to notice. Dragons don’t have writing anyway. It’s foolish to be offended. (He doesn’t do a great job, not noticing, and always speaks to her in Korean.) It’s embarrassing to admit, but she doesn’t even notice when Nik Kos says her words, because Opal is too busy trying to figure out how she’s going to buy herself a new unit with basically no money. It’s not until after the shooting that it finally clicks, and then she very thoroughly...panics herself silent. It takes a while for her to get up the nerve to say anything.
For Nik, it isn’t a problem until the Arena. No one gave two shits about some cast-off Underground kid’s soulmark. But as a fighter--there isn’t a lot of literature on what happens to soulmarks, if you get the relevant body part augmented. Nik resisted getting chest armor as long as he could, even though it was stupid, and he knows it was stupid, and he even knows it’s stupid to pretend that the elegant handwriting of how’d you hear that is ever going to cross his path, let alone give him the time of day. Nik convinces himself it’s going to be a relief to wake up and have the writing gone, when he finally cracks and gets the armor. (He wakes up to the words etched into the metal, as stark and black as ever, and a polite request from Rena to maybe study him a little, please. He declines but she holds out hope.) He’s actually seen Opal’s handwriting before he speaks to her, so he knows from the jump that she’s his soulmate--he kind of regrets such a stupid first remark, but he was just so curious after seeing months of the best Cleaner around go from misfortune to misfortune. He decided pretty much immediately that he wasn’t good enough for her it was more trouble than it was worth, and then, of course, instantly got in over his head for her.
Marci was also born with her soulmark, part of the first generation born after the First Crash and therefore the first generation born with soulmarks, but can i help you is about the least helpful soulmark in the world. She’s heard it a million and one times by the time she blows up her childhood home, and quashes the automatic uprush of giddy hope when the gorgeous guy with the green eyes says it. She introduces herself back, and his eyes don’t even flicker as he takes her business card, and so Marci writes it off. And writes it off, and writes it off, and writes it off, and--
And dragons don’t have soulmarks. Marci knows it, everyone knows it. Some people say it’s because they’re incapable of feeling love--any love, parental love, platonic love, romantic love, any of the myriad different loves that forge a soulmark--but the longer she knows Julius, the less she thinks that’s the case. Maybe dragons are just--different. And she’s seen Julius’ handwriting now. So--best friends. Marci can live with that.
(Marci has a second soulmark. It’s a bleached scar on the tips of her right fingers, like someone burned off her fingerprints with acid, and it’s always cold to the touch, and it sang through her as bright and painful as touching dry ice, when she first bound a cat-shaped death spirit. All Merlins bear a mark from their spirits, she learns later. This raises an interesting debate about Emily Jackson and the talon marks that always seem to appear on her artificial wrist, but that’s a separate book for Marci to write, someday.)
Julius has the dubious privilege of being one of the first dragons ever to get a soulmark. They’re native magic, is the thing he’s learned recently. And dragons...aren’t. Weren’t. But Marci fell out of the sky and he caught her and he has two silver marks on his blue scales, corresponding to handprints at the curve of his shoulders, where her bare palms scrabbled for a grip. He is thrilled beyond words, thank you very much, and not inclined to look a gift soulmark in the mouth. The only person whose transparent delight comes close is the Qilin, despite the fact that he is absolutely going to be in trouble with his advisors for showing up to the end of the world with a deep purple soulmark on his hand, matching the brilliant gold that wraps around Chelsie’s.
Bob is the exception to many rules. The black chain links marching down his spine are half soulmark, half contract, and he’s had them since well before the return of magic, and he doesn’t need to admit to anyone but his lady how comforting he finds their weight.
#dfz#dfz series#heartstriker#heartstriker series#starlight writes stuff#this is only one version of a soulmate au obviously! i love soulmate aus and can think of Several Others!#specifically like. chelsie and xian are soulmates from 600 years ago and Oh Boy Is That A Mess#but YEAH anyway bob and his pigeon are soulmates and i am NOT taking questions#and opal is yong's first soulmate and half the reason he's such a mess as a parent is because he's got Issues that he's not hers#and nik saw opal's handwriting and immediately went 'oh okay cool so i was right all along'#and gave up on the relationship right out of the gate#but he couldn't let her DIE and then once he saved her he couldn't LEAVE so...here they are#i'm. tired. so yeah that's it but if you want to hear more about an alternative version of soulmates for this#hit me up#i love soulmate aus#a queue we will keep and our honor someday avenge#Anonymous#asked and answered

“I am, Nik.
I sheepishly looked down shaking my head mouthing an ‘I’m sorry’.
