#TecophilaeaCyanocrocus AKA #ChileanBlueCrocus. This particular cultivar is ‘Leichtlinii’. This plant is absolutely stunning and it smells sort of like a freesia. I’ve been so pleasantly surprised by how many blooms it’s put out & it’s been easy to care for. The species was actually thought to be extinct in the wild for many years due to overcollection and habitat destruction but it’s been found in the wild again. This lovely wildflower is endemic to the high mountains of southwestern China (Yunnan and Sichuan). It forms pink carpets in open woodland or at the edge of the forest, usually above 3000m.

Aubretia ‘Kitte’ #oneadayplant. Alpine/rock garden plants are often poorly grown and inappropriately situated in gardens for their needs. Aubretia is one such plant, that too often gets planted on level ground and more often than not toys over time. It needs really decent drainage as one might find growing out of crack in old stone walls. Good quality soil carpeting the ground might work, but generally short term success only with it dissolving in wet winter soil. Full sun, sharp drainage, great in cracks and fissure in rocks. Best allowed to hang down a surface. I started to plant the stumpery. I have sooo much to do on it. (I still have hostas that need new homes) We need to add more compost, even though I though I had compacted the soil and compost into the crevices. I planted pansies into some of crevices and holes.
