Woah, I've appeared again! I've been summoned from the shadow realm to listen to Lollyland Tour by Madotspooki! And gosh, this song is just as spooky and deceiving as the last Madotspooki song I listened to.
First of all, this is a freakin good song. It starts off with a slow vibe and a bit of harpsichord (I think) but immediately throws that slowness away and jumps into a fast-paced lil jig with lyrics all dancing around the beat and bass like a heartbeat thumping in my ears. And ohmygod this is such a wonderful start to a song! I got interrupted like three times before I could finish listening to this song, and each time I rewound all the way to the beginning because I loved this part and wanted to hear it again. It's so jam-worthy, it's impressive! And it gets me bopping right at the beginning of the song! I love how the lyrics never just stick to the beat and just tiptoe around it like a good dance routine! It just draws me even more into the song!! But at the same time, even though the lyrics and stuff make the song seem all happy, if you listen to just the music behind everything, it sounds super ominous and worrying, like the standard music that would play in a video game once you reach a part where you're hiding from the bad guys. I didn’t even notice it at first but I love that lil bit so much after my first listen!
Also there's five vocaloids singing in this song! And they make harmonies!! With each other!!! I love it, I love it so much!
This whole first part of the song (before it gets obviously dark) is just. Marvelous. It's so boppy and jam-worthy and I love it. It gets me all dancing and vibing in my seat. This is the kind of song where even if you listen to it as part of a playlist in the background, as soon as it comes on, you've gotta pause in your work at least a couple of times just to dance a lil. Like that's not just a requirement, it's unavoidable. And it's beautiful.
And I love the hint of my gosh, wait, this isn't all sweet. Umm, that's worrying, oh no that pops up briefly. So fun!
But when the bottom drops out of the song (literally, the protagonist in the song falls into an abyss), the bass just starts screaming and it's wonderful! Just the unraveling of the constraints that the bass was under (from relatively sticking to the 4/4 count to just hitting whenever) is amazing to hear! But then the bass switches to another beat and the lyrics start up again, and it feels like the song is just dying. Like it's the desperate struggles of someone running around trying to escape their inevitable death. Which fits with the song, lol. But also when combined with the beginning of the song paints a picture of someone vibing and having fun before realizing they're in danger, trying not to die, and failing. It's such a fun thing to listen to musically!
Honestly, I'm getting the impression that a bunch of the Madotspooki songs I'll listen to are gonna just seem all happy and light-hearted and then stab me in the back with some spooky gore or gory implications or something, and I'm kinda here for it!
Also CAN I SAY! The lyrics "Brimestone flames, burning pains, exposed brains, no more" playing on the "Candy canes, sugar plains, party games, even more"?? So good!
And then the song breaks into harmonies, except one set of lyrics is talking in first person and one's talking in third person. (And I LOVE these harmonies!! It makes the song flow so much smoother and it's such a vibe!) And then it layers with the lyrics above and the bass gets louder and there's so much going on. But it's such a vibe. And then the lyric "I'm on cloud nine and it feels like I'm dreaming" repeats but it leads to something new and more sinister this time! (Which, I feel like is basically a summary of this whole song. Something nice repeated in a malicious context.)
Then, finally, everything slows down a bit. And when the girl sings, the demon buddy answers, which I love (and I love their voice!! So smooth and cool!) Then the song has a lil breakdown, which is also really nice for keeping the vibe while slowing things down a bit (cause everything was starting to get a bit too much for a moment there). And the song transitions to just some bells ringing before ending. I really like how the bells suddenly left silence in their wake since the song went from loud bass to just that. It doesn’t ease you out of the excitement from before and leaves you jittery and nervous, while the bells definitely signal that the poor girl's dead. Poor buddy.
But yeah, this song's really good! It's more of a song to listen to while doing something physical so you can dance to the beat and all. And gosh, now I'm kinda tired from listening to it over and over again, but it was fulfilling. I'm really glad I listened to it! Thanks @/viscaeriic for recommending this song to me, and I can definitely hear the Christmas vibe (if Christmas was deadly, lol). This is going onto my Vocaloid playlist for sure!
