Kuroshitsuji: Kishuku Gakkou-hen/Black Butler: Public School Arc ep#5; short review
Cricket game is coming, and with it, Ciel's chance to meet the Headmaster. That is, only if he manages to be one hell of a player (lol).
Kuroshitsuji has always been a very fun watch/read for me due to the presence of humoristic moments over the course of episodes and the dramatic interactions between characters.
We start with the Purple House's building on fire, which makes us realize not only Derrick but the other students supposed to be holed up in there are actually missing truly. The suspicion grows about the Purple House and especially regarding Violet himself, who refuses the help from the other Houses. After Soma calls him out, Violet finally accepts it and the fire is taken care of. But Ciel now has no leads about the missing students, except that he must meet the Headmaster.
A chance appears: if he manages to be an outstanding player athe Cricket game on the 4th of June, he could be chosen to attend one of these midnight tea parties held by the Headmaster. The criteria being seemingly random, both he and Sebastian will have to ensure both Blue House's victory and Ciel's accomplishment as a gentleman of Weston College to ensure he is chosen.
Kudos to Ciel's acting once again. He's so silly. Him and Sebastien plotting together is extremely funny. He goes from this:
to anime girl pose in 0.2 seconds:
I totally believe he is very motivated by a game of cricket.
Follows the opening ceremony for the game, with Lizzie and her parents being there. Each team is introduced in the most dramatic way, except for Blue House who's just... kinda there, as the loser each year.
Outside of the funny shenanigans, as in Lizzie cheering for Ciel more than for her brother, Ciel running away from Druitt, Violet's successful rendition of Lawrence being surrounded by his sisters, and the Lower Master once again kissing the floor in bloody fashion, Lizzie's mother of course immediately recognizes Sebastian.
I love him your honor.
Of course, this makes her understand that Ciel is here on Business (and makes Ciel realize Edward absolutely didn't recognize Sebastian).
Cut to Lizzie's father recounting the only time the Blue House won the cricket game... and their prefect at the time being:
Ciel's father, Vincent Phantomhive.
More lore, yay! Overall a great episode with peak comedy timing coupled with plot progression. I can't complain about anything this season, I'm fed on every levels. It has been a few years since I've read this arc in the manga so I look forward to relive it.
This review isn't short, sorry I lied. I'm simply one hell of a rambler.
