Holy smokes, January was the best reading month I've had in a long, long time. I don't know where I found the time to read eight books, but I did!! I think this was mainly accomplished because I'm a big fan of audiobooks. I'm listening to an audiobook when I'm driving, cleaning the house, walking in the city, or just lounging at home. Cheers to a great month of listening (reading)!!⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ 🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷 Cheers⁣⁣⁣ WELL-READ BLACK GIRL, Anthology by @guidetoglo ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ HEAVY by @kieselaymon ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ 🍷🍷🍷🍷 Cheers⁣⁣⁣ THE WEDDING DATE & THE PROPOSAL by @jasminepics ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣ MONSOON MANSION by @cinellebarnesbooks ⁣⁣ ⁣ALL YOU CAN EVER KNOW by @nicolesoojung ⁣⁣ ⁣ MY SISTER, THE SERIAL KILLER by @oyinbraithwaite (not pictured)⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ 🍷🍷 Cheers⁣⁣⁣ THOSE WHO KNEW by Idra Novey (not pictured)⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ What was your favorite read this month?⁣⁣⁣ 📚🍷⁣⁣⁣ .⁣⁣⁣ .⁣⁣⁣ .⁣⁣⁣ .⁣⁣⁣ .⁣⁣⁣ #spinesvines #books #wine #diversespines #wocwriters #januarywrapup #wrapup #wellreadblackgirl #theweddingdate #theproposal #heavy #monsoonmansion #allyoucaneverknow #audiobooks https://www.instagram.com/p/BtQ2xfKHDUa/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=phgwjwdl9sw6

#repost @autumnswrites #allyoucaneverknow by #nicolechung is the #memoir of a domestic transracial #adoptee who documents both her entry into #motherhood and the search for her #birthparents. Most #adoption stories are told from the perspective of the adoptive parents, so this story is one that has been sorely lacking. Chung’s Korean heritage is unique for a domestic adoption, but her experience as the only #asianamerican in her community was extremely helpful to hear. There is much debate in #domesticadoption about “open” vs. “closed,” and this sheds so much light on this topic. This book is definitely recommended to all #adoptiveparents and those considering #adoption. #representationmatters #ownvoices #adopteevoices #asianamericanlit #openadoption https://www.instagram.com/p/BsUTW_BhW6K/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1ot3twotjv12

ADOPTION AWARENESS MONTH QUOTE 11
Wednesday, November 22, 2023
"Today, when I’m asked, I often say that I no longer consider adoption—individual adoptions, or adoption as a practice—in terms of right or wrong. I urge people to go into it with their eyes open, recognizing how complex it truly is; I encourage adopted people to tell their stories, our stories, and let no one else define these experiences for us." – Nicole Chung, All You Can Ever…

“...now that I am raising children of color in a starkly divided America I feel, even more strongly, that maintaining my silence with my relatives — pretending my race does not matter — is no longer a choice I can make. It feels like my duty as my white family’s de facto Asian ambassador to remind them that I am NOT white, that we DO experience this county in different ways because of it, that many people still know oppression far more insidious and harmful than anything I’ve ever faced.”⁣ ⁣ Oh Nicole, this memoir is so darn good! Many passages in this book pulled on my heartstrings but this quote played over and over in my mind. Thank you for sharing your personal journey with grace, transparency, & honesty as you traversed through your family history. I appreciated everything I learned about adoption and I know this book will speak to the hearts of so many who have been adopted. ⁣ ⁣ Rating: 🍷🍷🍷🍷 out of 5 Cheers!⁣ ⁣ I’m looking forward to discussing this wonderful memoir with my book boo @lupita.reads, @nicolesoojung & our @litonhst fam on Sunday, Jan. 27th, 6pm at @solidstatedc. ⁣ 📚🍷⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ #spinesvines #books #wine #diversespines #wocwriters #allyoucaneverknow #nicolechung #freeindc #litonhst #bookclub #winedown #winewednesday (at Washington, District of Columbia) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bstzf0cHRmp/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=bddqjrj9155m
