AR(t) comes alive at French artist Aurélien Jeanney’s latest augmented reality exhibition Looki Look
Entering the art gallery holding my smartphone upright, finding the perfect angle to observe the pieces through my camera is not how I expected to look at art. As I inched slowly towards an exhibit titled Pool Party or Aquanouba in French, a piece of mysterious music began to play from my phone, followed by shapes blinking, sliding and swaying on screen. The sudden disappearances and…

Heylo my maggotsies... I'm sorry to do this but I have a thing that I really, really need to do (thank you Ash for helping me realise that) but I'm terrified to. so well. I'm going to make one of the posts (Neil reblogged me a couple of days ago so I feel pretty safe making one now since he only lurks by once in two weeks so this is as good a time as it gets to make a post and not expect many notes, yes I'm an overthinker and I'm actually scared of this getting notes).
Sigh. Here goes.
...I'm scared of even typing it.
Nope okay I can do this let's go.
If this post gets 1k notes, I'll look up jobs in design and film making that don't need a college degree.
2k notes, I'll sign up for an Alliance Francaise course so I can have another language on my CV, and I'll find a course that teaches me how to use design software.
5k, I'll look up distance learning alternatives, because just talking about physical college yesterday made me spend the whole morning and afternoon today in and out of nightmares screaming. Fuck.
10k, I'll tell my mum that I can't do the offline college. She's been talking to me about it, but I've been dodging because I'm not well-off and I really need to be earning and idk how to do that without college and I feel so guilty.
15k, I'll officially back out from the college (does that count as dropping out, if it hasn't begun? maybe half. i am a college and a half dropout, my 11th grade self would hate me and my 10th grade self would refuse to believe it).
I don't know what I'll do then. I don't know how to live as trans here in India, I don't know how to earn enough to be able to help my family, I don't know what I'm good at and I'm so fucking terrified. But. I spoke to @random-doctor-on-the-internet last night (I love you Ash you're such a fucking amazing human) and they made me realise that well maybe landing in a hospital with steroids to relieve an allergy attack because of exam stress isn't normal and so.
Well. Here I am. I know I can't do it, but I'm scared to risk everything, it's just not something people do here, dropping out. But also (TW s**cide statistics mentioned below the cut)... And so I've just. Got to do it, got to save myself and say no to college (cue say no to school, kids joke). Somehow be brave enough. And yeah.
To quote a financial express article: "In an alarming situation, a total of 7,62,648 suicides were reported in India between 2018 to 2022, Of this student suicides account for 7.6% at 59,239". Maybe if more people did say fuck you to the system here, that wouldn't be the case. That number could have been 59,240 (aside from everyone who wasn't counted and hushed up), that could have been me, and I don't want to put myself in that situation again. You know? Yeah.

“There were a few farsighted Europeans who all along saw that the colonial educational system would serve them if and when political independence was regained in Africa. For instance, Pierre Foncin, a founder of the Alliance Francaise, stated at the beginning of this century that "it is necessary to attach the colonies to the metropolis by a very solid psychological bond, against the day when their progressive emancipation ends in a federation as is probable that they be and they remain French in language, thought and spirit.” ― Walter Rodney, How Europe Underdeveloped Africa

Thank You Friends....
I was kept back in class; it was shame full but who knew my failing in class was a blessing in disguise. Suddenly I was surrounded by girl friends who saw me understood my journey and supported me. Girl Friends' University is an unlisted one but is the most unacknowledged mental health organisations.
I did not realise but I was always in therapy because I talked to my girlfriends. Beenu was the no nonsense one telling me things could be worst girl come on you have a to keep counting your blessings. When you can't find role models in the family you start looking outside and again my girlfriends' mothers became just that. Mind you they did not sit and listen to my life story but smiled at me when I needed that acknowledgement the most.
Sonali introduced me to music therapy and her parents' kindness taught me selflessness. In my enthusiasm to solve all boyfriend problems for Sonali I learnt about a balanced relationship with the other gender. Then Jeena whose name if taken literally means how to live life tutored me in class subjects, I was failing in, but she did not know that bonding on biology helped me to hate my biology a little less. Samina introduced me to the beauty of language and however angry you are your words don't get angry. Watching her mum share space with her daughters gave me hope that someday I would do the same.
Pemma was the energiser who brought with her the infectious vivacious ness that was like a high beam keeping my darkness away. Again, her mum's food was not just nourishment for my body but my soul which was covered with acne of self-hate. Urvashi was that teacher who knew I am not the brightest spot in learning but as a friend I was a topper. My journey would be incomplete as I learnt gentleness from Ruby and her continuous hope filled presence.
Then came the University years yes again I was blessed by Angel girlfriends. Poornima, Shantha, Madhavi and I made each other laugh, cheered each other on, shared meals together listened to each other. Many a time I missed classes in Alliance Francaise but in return attended priceless time talking to Mrs. Sethi P's mum again a role model close to my heart. Poornima introduced me to my lifeline my darling husband again no surprises there the girl gang is always watching out for you.
There are many more, some in the long school bus journey, some were in the competitive circle, some were just there I thank them all my girls I love you.

What is TEF Language Test?
Test d’Evaluation de Français (TEF) is one of the international benchmark tests that evaluate proficiency and knowledge of the French language.
TEF has been used as a French language test for immigration to Canada for a long time already. Some educational institutions in Canada accept TEF results from international students as proof of language skills.
TEF test sessions are held around the year in various testing centers. These centers are responsible for the session dates as well as providing the candidates with registration period and fee structure. The registration deadlines are at least a week before the date of the test. It is best to apply and register early so that there’s enough time for all the paperwork to be processed within the given time.
You don’t need any prior qualifications or degrees to appear in a TEF test. You must, however, be at least 16 years of age or above to apply. For registration, you’ll need to present the following documents:
• Photocopy of your official ID card (including passport, driver’s license, and other such documents;
• A recent photograph along with the signature;
• In case that your testing center doesn’t take your photograph on the test date, you will also be required to present a form of photo identification;
• Personal information form that you fill out at the time of registration.

For test dates, prices, and other details regarding TEF test, please directly contact your country's locally approved & accredited French language examination centres like Institut français du Nigéria, Alliance Francaise, and The Nigerian French Village which are found in many major cities across Africa.
Meanwhile, registration is actively ongoing into our various monthly online and in-person visa application exams preparatory classes.

MUSICAL FUSION: Slovenia joins Ghana in Wiyaala's Lioness Kingdom
New Post has been published on https://plugzafrica.com/musical-fusion-slovenia-joins-ghana-in-wiyaalas-lioness-kingdom/
MUSICAL FUSION: Slovenia joins Ghana in Wiyaala's Lioness Kingdom
The Yaga yaga’s from Slovenia are travelling to Funsi a small town in the Upper West Region for a musical and cultural exchange with local musicians and Wiyaala. Besides enjoying the traditional African vibe of the Upper West, they will jam and rehearse for three landmark concerts, firstly performing an inaugural concert at Wiyaala’s Arts Centre and then moving to Accra to perform two back to back concerts on the 26th and 27th of January at the Alliance Francaise Af Accra and the +233 jazz bar and grill
This groundbreaking Afro-Euro collaboration was inspired by Wiyaala’s invitation to the Yaga Yagas to enjoy the Upper West Region’s unique attractions and hospitality, not forgetting the opportunity to bring together the contrasting musical styles and influences of their respective continents.
The Ghana/Slovenia collaboration began in May 2019 after Wiyaala received an invitation from the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovenia to perform at an Africa Day celebration in the capital city Ljubljana. Wiyaala was introduced to four classically trained Jazz fusion musicians from Ljubljana for the gig and they immediately hit it off musically and became firm friends.
Their musical chemistry continued to flourish as they embarked on a European tour during the summer of 2019, gracing stages at renowned festivals such as Afro-Pfingsten Festival in Switzerland, Riddu Riđđu Festivála in Norway, and Welcome to The Village in the Netherlands. Their performances garnered positive acclaim, cementing their status as a compelling musical ensemble.
The COVID-19 pandemic interrupted their musical endeavours and it wasn’t until 2022 that the band (by now known as Wiyaala & The Yaga Yagas) reunited for the Kamfest Festival in Slovenia. This reunion rekindled their creative fire, leading them to embark on a collaborative recording project in April 2023. The album, titled “Segerege (The Elephant’s Ears Are On Fire),” with 11 songs inspired by the traditional melodies and songs of Wiyaala’s homeland in the Upper West Region of Ghana.
Recorded live at Studio Metro in Ljubljana, the project is currently in its final mixing and mastering stages, with an expected release in the first half of 2024. The band’s lineup is as diverse as their music: Wiyaala, the charismatic vocalist, guitarist and percussionist from Funsi, Ghana.
Miha Petric, the Slovenian guitarist and award winning composer. Jošt Lampret, the Slovenian bass player, composer, and arranger. Nejc Skofic, the talented Slovenian jazz pianist and composer. Žiga Kožar, the versatile Slovenian drummer, with experience across many musical styles. The collaboration represents a fusion of cultures, genres, and talents, offering a fresh and captivating musical experience that transcends borders and genres.
ABOUT THE LIONESS KINGDOM
Famed international travel bloggers, Drew Binsky & Wodemaya’s 2020 visit to Funsi prompted Wiyaala to renovate a couple of rooms in unused missionary buildings to accommodate her guests in some comfort. After the visit, Wiyaala saw potential and created 16 guest rooms with individual bathrooms and a restaurant.
Not satisfied she went on to build a stage, borehole, an Arts Centre, a recording/rehearsal studio and a traditional film village. More works are said to be in progress. Other famous visitors to the Lioness Kingdom include John Dramani Mahama, Jon Benjamin (former UK Ambassador to Ghana), Thomas Naadi BBC, Berla Mundi, DW Africa, KING AYISOBA

How to Choose a Good Play?
If cinema is factory-made bread that is food for the soul, theater is bread that is fresh out of an oven in a bakery. The actors are right there in front of you in person, and even the music and sound effects are sometimes performed live. While I love watching movies, I never miss an opportunity to catch a good play whenever I can.
Tumblr media
1. Try to avoid experimental theater
One of the things I learned the hard way about choosing a play was never to go in for a play that is termed "experimental." This will usually translate into something weird which will not amount to an enjoyable performance. There are well-known theater troupes that dabble in this sort of thing and it is better to skip them.
You might like Love, Death, and Robots V3, Netflix: Delightful Weirdness that enthralls
2. International theater festivals are always a good bet
Tumblr media
Another way to choose good plays is to choose the ones at international cultural centers such as the Alliance Francaise in Bangalore.
3. Keep an eye out for cultural fests to choose a good play
Tumblr media
There used to be an annual arts and culture festival called Bengaluru Habba which I haven't heard of this past year. Nevertheless, art and culture gatherings will definitely have great plays for audiences to enjoy and celebrate.
4. Opt for reasonably priced plays
Never select a play whose ticket price is higher than the cost of a blockbuster 3D movie in a multiplex. Unless the play is a critically acclaimed production, a play that costs way more than an expensive movie ticket isn't worth it. I myself have been to a few plays where the tickets were pricey and the play was either boring or really bad.
5. Choose plays in your regional language when you can.
Tumblr media
Regional theater is almost always bound to be good and priced reasonably as well. The plays I watched at H N Kalakshetra, Malleshwaram Seva Sadan in Bangalore, and Rangayana in Mysore were really good. Non-regional plays are most times priced higher and the chances of going to a bad one are higher.
Read Brighton's Street-art is Alive!
6. Choose good productions and directors
Tumblr media
One way to tell if a play is good is if it people behind it come from renowned theater backgrounds. For example in India, the National School of Drama is well known for its famous alumni from Anupam Kher to Neena Gupta. Rangayana in Mysore founded by acclaimed playwright B V Karanth has produced exceptional talent since its inception.

From post-study work visa to UPI payment in France, Top picks from PM Modi’s visit to France
On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that India and Paris will now use the flagship instant payment system in France. The move indicates a major boost to the market expansion of the unified payments interface in India. PM Modi clarified that the service will begin from Eiffel Tower where Indian tourists can buy tickets and make payments using UPI and Indian currency.
“India and France have agreed to use UPI in France. In the coming days, it will begin from the Eiffel Tower which means Indian tourists will now be able to pay in rupees,” PM Modi said as he addressed the  Indian diaspora in Paris.
This is happening after around a year since the National Payments Corporation Of India (NPCI), signed a MOU with France's fast and secure online payment system, called Lyra.
PM Modi also talked about Post-study work visas for students in France and confirmed that the students completing their studies in France will now get 5 years of post-study work visas. "Earlier it was decided that students studying in France will get 2 years of work visa but now students who pursue their Masters from France will get 5 years of work visa post their studies," PM Modi said.
Talking about his bond with France, PM Modi talked about being the first Indian member of France’s cultural center. Alliance Francaise is a center that opened in Ahmedabad around 40 years back. He explained how the Indian government tried hard to track down his identity card of his and hand it down to him.
“My bond with France is historic and I can never forget that. Around 40 years ago, France's cultural center, Alliance Francaise, was established in Gujarat's Ahmedabad. The first Indian member of that cultural center is speaking with you here today,” he said.
