I don’t think Elphelt is ready to fuck necessarily. She’s ready to get married. She wants to do everything possible to get someone to marry her and play out her dreamy romance fantasies. She does also say she wants to have kids and grandkids and great grandkids. But despite all that I’m not entirely convinced she knows what sex is tbh

Mountain Man: Part 6
Tumblr media
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 | PART 6 | Part 7 | Part 8
Pairing: Arthur Morgan x Reader
Word count: 3k
Warnings: Angst, Swearing
Summary: You never thought you’d love again. Then Arthur Morgan came into town. Fate continuously has you meeting each other in odd ways, and a troubled past is something you are both familiar with. Perhaps that’s what will make this time different.
-----
You awoke the next morning to the sound of birds chirping and early morning sunlight streaming into your room. You could vaguely hear Ben’s voice from downstairs as he chattered away to either Mary or Ms. Chadwick. A glance at the wooden clock hanging on the wall over the door told you it was not quite 7:00 - and since Ben seemed thoroughly distracted you decided to stay in bed and take a few extra minutes to yourself to reflect on the night before. It had been a long time since you had awoken with a smile on your face, but today your grin stretched from ear to ear.
After your fortunate (or unfortunate?) interruption the night before, the two of you had decided it would be best to call it a night. Aside from the fact that you barely knew each other, Valentine was a town without secrets, and if anyone caught a glimpse of what you had been up to, you would never live it down.
After you managed to catch your breath, you had tugged on your jacket, rebuttoned the top few buttons on your blouse, and were straightening up your hair when a sudden wave of thorough exhaustion hit you. You had had more than enough excitement for one day, and were ready to get home and collapse in bed - even if that meant you were forced to leave the man in front of you.
The man, whose face had still been flushed, and who hadn’t bothered to fully rebutton his shirt. The man who still was looking lustfully at you, even as he stood a few meters away to contain himself. Dragging him home with you, bringing him up to your room, was so incredibly tempting. Alas, your exhaustion won out, and you forced yourself to head home alone.
Originally, you had wanted to avoid any awkward silence on your trip home and bid him farewell when you had reached the street in front of the sheriff’s office. However, after having walked you around the building and to his horse, still hitched at the saloon, Arthur insisted on walking you the rest of the way.
Luckily, the walk was short, and although the two of you were lost for words, the silence somehow wasn’t awkward. Rather, it seemed that both of you were lost in your thoughts, moseying back and occasionally eyeing the other. You reached the boarding house in no time.
The lights were all out, the house again quiet as everyone slept. In the window, you could see the faint outline of Ben’s wooden horse, which he occasionally left out to watch for you when he went to bed. The corners of your lips turned up into a small smile at the thought of your son, worried about you after today’s adventures, putting up a lookout so that he would know when you were home.
In the yard, Arthur tied off his horse’s lead, and walked you up the few steps to the door. You followed his lead, stopping when he turned to you. “Look…” he started, taking off his hat and running a hand through his hair. “What you said back there…”
“Did I mean it?” you finished for him, not wanting to allow him to dig deeper into that well of self-deprecation that he was constantly drinking from. You let out a breathy laugh, it really was unbelievable how much he doubted himself. The old floorboards on the porch creaked slightly as you stepped closer to him, taking his free hand in yours. “Yes… absolutely,” you told him quietly, before standing on your toes and placing a light kiss on his cheek. Not giving him any time to respond, you brushed past him and to the door. “Goodnight, Mountain Man.”
You don’t know how long he stood there once you had gone inside, but once the door had closed you had leaned against it and held in an excited squeal. It had been so long since you had felt this. This exciting, heart-pounding, overwhelming feeling hadn’t been a part of your life since Andrew, and you couldn't help yourself - you wanted more.
Slowly, you had made your way upstairs, careful to avoid any creaky floorboards. Ben was fast asleep in bed, the drawing once again clutched to his chest. You again pried it from his hands, careful not to rip it, gave him a kiss on the forehead, and fell into bed, exhausted.
The next morning, having allowed yourself a few extra minutes of rest, you finally got out of bed and made yourself ready for the day. A wide smile graced your face and you were wholly unable to shoo away the butterflies in your stomach. It felt like you were once again a lovestruck teenager, and for some reason you were completely fine with that.
You took your breakfast inside with Mary and Ben, who had somehow whipped up a feast of scrambled eggs, fresh bread, and aromatic coffee. You suspected it was more Mary’s doing than Ben’s, but thanked the two of them equally, regardless. You smacked an intentionally wet kiss on Ben’s cheek, the smile never leaving your face, and ate.
---
A few hours later, the three of you had cleaned up the dishes and since moved to the living room for a game of dominoes. You sat alongside Mary on an aging yellow sofa, in front of a low coffee table. Ben bounced up and down on his knees, kneeling on the dingy rug in front of you. The dominos were an old set, inherited from your mother-in-law who had bought them as a child. The paint was fading, and a couple of pieces were lost to the ages, but they were still playable, despite their faults.
After a few rounds, a timid knock on the door reached your ears. You, already too far behind in points to even consider a comeback, stood from your seat to answer it.
You laughed at the other two, shushing them as you exited the room. The hallway was bright in the mid-morning light, reflecting off a small, dingy mirror on the back wall. There was an obvious skip in your step as you made your way to the door, which creaked lightly as you opened it to reveal a familiar man standing on the porch.
He was dressed in the same clothes as the evening before, his hair slightly mussed, and was looking out into the field in front of the house. His arms rested on the porch railing, his hands clasped together. He must have heard the creak of old hinges, because he quickly turned to face you almost immediately after the door had fully opened.
The grin on your face, ever present since the previous evening, only grew wider upon seeing him. “Arthur!” you smiled, stepping out into the morning air and starting to close the door behind you. “What are you doing here?” you chided, grin morphing into a playful smirk. You tilted your head to the side, taking in the man before you.
He cleared his throat and reached up to take his hat from his head. For some reason, he didn’t return your flirting, which made you falter. You were immediately beginning to feel the seeds of doubt growing inside of you. Was he regretting the previous night? Did he come here to tell you that it couldn’t happen again?
Quietly, he spoke your name and cleared his throat. “I… I was comin’ to see... a friend,” he managed, looking at the ground.
And there it was. The way he paused before saying “friend” made it all click into place. Unless he was here to see Ms. Chadwick, there was only one other person he could possibly be visiting.
Mary.
Mary, who needed help finding her brother. Mary, who had seen former acquaintances in town. Mary, who had mentioned calling on her long lost love for help.
Of course that love was Arthur.
You cleared your throat again, regaining your composure and taking a small step back towards the still ajar door. “Oh… well that’s good,” you plastered a practiced smile on your face. Covering your sadness and disappointment had become second nature to you in the last few years. “Here I thought you were following me or something,” you teased, hoping the disappointment in your voice wouldn’t come through.
It did.
Arthur, thankfully, at least pretended he didn’t notice. His response was more in line with your meetings throughout the week, beginning with what should have been one of those loud barks of a laugh. Instead, it was breathy and dejected.  “What kind of man do you take me for, miss?” he retorted, evidently trying his best to ignore your feelings and hide his own.
It didn’t work.
“I’m not so sure anymore, Mountain Man,” you breathed, far less flirty than you had originally intended. You wanted to sink into the floor. On the off chance that he hadn’t noticed your disappointment earlier, he most certainly would have after that comment. You looked away from him and cleared your throat into your hand, hoping to cover your crestfallen face.
“It’s nice to see you, of course,” he muttered, breaking a very awkward silence that had overcome the two of you. He continued fiddling with the edge of his hat and looked at you from his position across the porch. “But is... um… is Mrs. Linton in?”
You swallowed the lump in your throat and glanced back toward the door. “Oh, Mary?” you responded, feigning slight surprise. You were right, and you hated it. Why couldn’t he have come to visit Ms. Chadwick? “I think so, I’ll go see…” you murmured, biting your lip and turning to walk back into the house, closing the door as you did so.
For a second, you leaned back against the door as you had the night before. But this time, you were significantly less giddy. A strange feeling had overtaken you - another of those that you hadn’t felt in years. Jealousy.
You contemplated not calling for her; going back outside and telling Arthur that she had already left. You shook those thoughts off almost immediately, however. Not only was that a completely obvious lie, but what good would it do? You had known him for only a few weeks, had seen him only a few times. A night of something almost intimate behind the sheriff's office gave you no claim over him. And god forbid you stand in the way of reuniting a lost love.
If he wanted to be with Mary, if he still loved her, you weren’t going to stop him. “Mary?” you called, your voice slightly hoarse. You swallowed your pride and fiddled with the ring on your finger. “You have a caller!”
“Thank you!” you heard her from the living room, followed by the sound of her standing and delicate footsteps moving towards the hallway. “Coming!”
Before she made it out of the room, you pushed yourself from the door and opened it slightly for her. She slipped past you without another word, but with a hopeful smile on her face. In the few weeks she had been here, you had yet to see her like this. She was glowing.
You closed the door behind her, fully intending to give them their privacy and head back into the living room, but the way she breathed out his name as the door creaked to a close stopped you in your tracks. It was full of love, longing, disappointment; more emotions than you had seen the woman express in her entire time in Valentine.
The temptation to listen in on their conversation was too great. Quietly, carefully, you leaned back against the door, pressing an ear to the wood. Luckily, the old door was as bad at blocking sound as it was keeping out the cold in winter.
“Hello, Arthur,” Mary breathed. You could picture her looking at him fondly, lovingly. As if their relationship had never ended. As if she had never remarried.
Then it was Arthur’s turn. Although his voice held the same fondness, the same longing, the same love, it was more disheartened. It was the voice of a broken man. “Mary… I, um…”
Mary interrupted him, knowing he wasn’t a man of words, knowing it was hard for him to express his feelings. “I heard you and your friends was around… I…” it was her turn to falter, as if she were unsure of where to steer the conversation.
“Okay,” Arthur continued, when it was apparent that Mary didn’t know what else to say. “Where’s what’s-his-name?”
“Died,” her response was short, and you could hear her footsteps on the porch as she walked closer to him.
“Well, I’m sorry to hear that,” Arthur responded. And from what you could hear, he did sound sorry. But there was something else, something new in his voice that was hard to hear through the wood of the door. Hope.
“Yeah, me too,” she answered, quickly, trying to move the conversation forward and away from the increasingly depressing topic. “Happened a while ago. Pneumonia.”
“Bad business,” it was a formality, really. He obviously couldn’t immediately come out and ask why she was there, if she was there for him. But you knew it was coming. Now that the re-introductions were over, it was inevitable, and you couldn’t bear to listen any further.
Quietly, you pushed yourself away from the door, trying hard not to listen to any more of the conversation. It was obvious enough from his earlier demeanor that Arthur was still in love with her, and now that she was free again, he had his chance. He could finally live the life that he deserved, and you most certainly would not be one to stop him.
After all, you barely knew the man. He wasn’t yours to claim and he certainly wasn’t yours to lose.
Not ten minutes later, Mary bustled back into the house and stole your attention from the living room, where you had started a new game of dominoes with Ben as a distraction. She made her way down the hallway, a renewed spring in her step and a happy smile on her face.
“Oh, you won’t believe what’s just happened,” she told you, drawing your hands into hers and sitting beside you on the couch. You could practically feel the excitement radiating off her. “I’m just… oh, I’m so happy.” She looked into your eyes, her own brimming with joyful tears.
You looked back at her, again swallowing the lump in your throat and pretending not to have heard any of her conversation with Arthur. “Hm?”
Hands still clasped in yours, she continued, “It’s Arthur. I knew it had to have been him that you met in town the minute I saw that drawing.” She looked towards Ben, who had since turned his focus to the two of you. He was fiddling with two of the dominoes and grinning back at her.
“The horse picture?” he asked, standing from his place on the floor and coming to sit with the two of you on the couch. Mary finally let go of your hands and scooted to the side to make space for him. Excited to have been helpful, he wiggled his way in between the two of you and allows you to wrap an arm around him. “It’s my favorite! Mr. Mountain Man can draw real good!”
“Oh, he certainly can, Ben,” Mary cooed, releasing one of your hands to ruffle his curls. He giggled and ducked slightly out of her way. “And if it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have been certain that he was in town at all. But as soon as I saw that drawing I knew it was him, and I wrote to him last night.”
She turned to look at you again, and you prayed that you were effectively hiding your dismay. You plastered a forced smile to your face and nodded, letting her continue despite the hurt.
“And he came! Not a day later, and he’s here and helping me find Jamie!” she explained further, confirming what you had already suspected. “He… well, it’s wonderful to see him again. I’ve thought of him so often, especially after Barry, and… it… it really feels like he’s changed. He used to be so rough and… reckless. And he’s certainly still rough, he’s still running with those brutish outlaws, but it seems like he’s grown. He’s… he’s calmer. He’s thinking things through.”
You cleared your throat and nodded, unable to speak, and instead let her continue her lovestruck rambling.
You knew what it was like to lose someone you love, and you knew what it was like to desperately want them back in your life. So, if Mary and Arthur might be able to have that, you certainly weren’t going to get in the way. She didn’t need to know about whatever it was that you had had with him. She didn’t need to know how you felt. You didn’t want to ruin her happiness. Besides, if he loved her, whatever you had had was irrelevant anyway.
“I… I think he’s changed… he’s changing... for the better,” she continued, gently saying your name with a hopeful smile. “I think we may have another chance.”
She stayed on the couch with you and Ben for only a moment longer before standing and leaving the room to pack in a flurry of anticipation. Her light footsteps reached the top of the stairs before you heard your name being called. “Would you mind being a dear and helping me gather my things?” came her voice through the hallway. “I’d like to meet them at the train station as soon as they return.”
You sighed, pushing yourself off of the old couch reluctantly. “Of course, Mary,” you called back to her, smiling bittersweetly down at your son and placing a kiss to his forehead, more thankful than ever that you had him.

Psycho Analysis: Yoshikage Kira
(WARNING! This analysis contains SPOILERS!)
Tumblr media
“You can call me Yoshikage Kira. I'm currently 33 years old. Not that you'd care, but I reside in northeast Morioh's villa district. Also, I've yet to marry. In order to make a living, I work for Kame Yu department stores. After a long day's work, I return home no later than 8 PM. I don't like smoking, but do enjoy the occasional drink. I'm always in bed by 11 PM, and I make it a point to get no less than 8 hours of sleep each night. Before bed, I drink a warm glass of milk. It's always coupled with 20 minutes of stretching to decompress from the long workday. Sweet dreams are the usual result of this. I then awake as refreshed and recharged as a newborn child, ready to take on the day's challenges. And after my last checkup, I was given a clean bill of health. For as long as I could remember, I've done everything in my power to live a productive life that allows me to pursue a lasting inner peace. This may be a foreign concept, but I choose not to concern myself with winning or losing, life's troubles, or enemies who bring sleepless nights. That is how I cope with this backwards life we find ourselves living. It's what brings me happiness in a world fraught with hardship and misery. Of course, if I were ever to engage in combat, I would win the battle without question.”
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is an absolute wealth of fantastic villains, some of the absolute best fiction has to offer. Villains like Dio and Funny Valentine and Diavolo and Pucci have become iconic among fans for their crazy personalities, quotable lines, powerful stands, unique designs, and overall character. But one villain stands out as perhaps the greatest creation of Hirohiko Araki, the villain of what is arguably the best part of the franchise: Yoshikage Kira of Diamond is Unbreakable.
Kira is the remorseless serial Killer who has been living in plain sight in Morioh for years, killing women and taking their hands to be his “girlfriends.” He miraculously was never caught despite being active for over a decade, due to a combination of sheer luck and his incredibly dangerous Stand Killer Queen. The utterly terrifying part is that for the most part he seems like an absolutely normal, average guy who otherwise wouldn’t stand out too much in a crowd (well, by JoJo standards anyway, he does dress a bit too colorfully to fit in to a crowd in the real world). This is also what makes him so great as a JoJo villain: even among the others, he stands out. Kind of ironic, all things considered.
Actor: The dub chose to grace Kira with the voice of D.C. Douglas, who you may know as Albert Wesker or Legion. To say that his voice work is perfect would be an understatement; he truly sells Kira as a normal guy while at the same time leaving an air of uncomfortable dread around every word Kira says. And when Kira snaps… brrrrr. Douglas really outdid himself here.
Motivation/Goals: Yoshikage Kira simply wishes to live a quiet life, free from the worries that the common man has. He just wants to live and brutally obliterate women until the end of his days, never being caught or facing justice. This is the gist of his character when first introduced, but of course, things change when Josuke and the gang get on his tail; he then goes out of his way to escape them by stealing the identity and life of a man named Kosaku Kawajiri, and when even that fails due to Kawajiri’s son catching on to him he gains a new ability so he can simply obliterate them all. The long and short of it though is that Kira is very much your typical serial killer pushed too far, though with his abilities, Kira is a lot more than “typical.”
Personality: Kira’s personality when compared to other villains like DIO is actually very subdued. For the most part, he is very calm, collected, and doesn’t really ham it up to any great extent. But when he does, it’s usually extremely terrifying; just look at the scene where he invades the couple’s apartment and kills them if you need evidence of how utterly terrifying Kira can be when he raises his voice
All that being said, once Kira gets Bites the Dust all bets are off. He becomes a lot hammier, though none of it feels like a betrayal of his character; it more feels like after all his desperate attempts to escape and all the fear of being caught, he is finally winning. And then when he starts to lose… it does sort of bring back memories of DIO after drinking Joseph’s blood, with how unhinged and even maniacal he starts to become.
Final Fate: Kira has the honor of dying twice within the span of a single episode. First comes when he is pushed into the path of an oncoming ambulance, which accidentally backs up over his head, killing him. Kira’s spirit ends up on Reimi’s street, and together with Arnold she succeeds in making Kira turn around and face the hands of the wicked spirits that live there, who proceed to tear him and Killer Queen apart and drag them to oblivion.
Both deaths are fitting and have a sense of irony to them. An ambulance reverses over him and tears off his face, just as he did to Kosaku Kawajiri; there’s also the fact that his face being mangled by the wheels of the ambulance technically gives Kira the anonymity he so craved. Then of course there is the fact that Kira is dragged off by the object of his desires, torn apart and brought to a place where he will never again experience a quiet day.
Best Scene: For Kira in his original appearance, it’s almost definitely his brutal murder of Shigechi. When he’s Kosaku Kawajiri, the final activation of Bites the Dust and his final fate really take the cake.
Best Quote: You know there is only one quote that could possibly go here. The single most famous thing Kira ever said. And while the dub unfortunately had to censor the line because there are some words you just can’t say on TV, the line still managed to be as epic as promised even if it did have a bit of unintentional hilarity to it:
“When I was a young boy, I remember discovering Leonardo da Vinci's enigmatic Mona Lisa while leafing through a tome of the master's works. It was my first time laying eyes on her! The beauty before me, well, it aroused something in me... it gave me a rock hard cock!”
The “cock” was bleeped out in the broadcast. I just love how this drops all the pretense and subtlety of the manga’s translation, it’s really beautiful and really showcases just how desperate and unhinged Kira has become.
Final Thoughts & Score: As has been noted and alluded to, there is a hilarious irony to Kira. By being a JoJo villain who does his best to appear as average and mundane as possible, he stands out compared to his garish, posing, flexing, hammy peers in the series. Of course, this really does just help make him all the more intriguing and unique… which, if he were real, would just frustrate him all the more.
Frankly this is the easiest 10/10 I have ever given to a villain. I hardly even have to think about it. Kira is just my absolute favorite villain subjectively speaking, and even objectively he’s just a fantastic character who fits the story so well. The ultimate enemy of a man who can fix anything is a man who can blow up everything, it’s pure brilliance, like a shining diamond perhaps. Then there’s his design, which just oozes cool, as well as Killer Queen’s design and myriad powers, which are likewise insanely awesome. Is it any surprise that he’s my go-to inspiration for when I design serial killer OCs?
There’s also just how he contrasts with the part as a whole. Diamond is Unbreakable is very relaxed and laid-back, plot wise. Compared to the previous three stories, which were all about fabulous muscle-bound vampires trying to take over the world, this is just a simple story about a gang of teens trying to find a killer and protect their town. There’s a lot of wacky situations and side characters, and overall the tone manages to stay fun and lighthearted… until Kira steps on the scene. Kira’s every appearance brings in a lot of dark, terrifying, and truly gruesome moments, and even with some of the levity provided such as his rambling about the erection he got from the Mona Lisa he still manages to be incredibly creepy and unnerving until his dying breath.
Kira is just an utterly fantastic villain with cool powers, a great voice actor, and two really fun playable appearances in All-Star Battle (Kawajiri’s Great Heat Attack is one of my favorites, it’s so funny). And while it’s obviously sad but still expected such a fantastic villain has to die, we can all take solace in knowing that some day in the distant future we will see him again (sort of) in Part 8. Still, it’s doubtful it will fill the hole Kira has exploded in the hearts of JoJo fans everywhere.

1, 2, 3, and 4? Oh and bonus question: Have you ever had a couple in game who found each other on their own? Love you!
Thank you, you’re the best! That’s a long one, so buckle up, everyone. :D
1. Who’s your favourite currently living Born In Game Sim? Are they different from your all-time fav BiG Sim?
My current ones are Devon and Ashwini. They’re both gorgeous and so interesting for me, they’re also polar opposites but get along pretty well despite everything. And yeah, I still haven’t chosen the heir among them, it’s really been my hardest choice ever. At this point I’ll probably just go with double and then see how I feel about their kids (even though it may not be a good idea because I can fall in love with the kids as well, but I’m willing to take a risk). Basically, Devon has an advantage because he has more of a story going on, but Ash is a better genetic mix since Devon is gorgeous but looks more like Jai, and Ash took after both parents. We’ll see, though… we’ll see.
About my all-time favourite, well… I must say that not all my born in game sims are actually born in game. I often create them before they make their first appearance to save myself some trouble, since they’re either going to be clones or not look the way I want them to, and I still have to reroll. (with Dev and Ash I might have did some rerolls but I did not create them beforehand so they were both surprises). So, to remember who was actually born in game on the spot… it may be Lavi or Irene. If we talk Fletchers, I’d say Kyle and Keith too, I remember how I loved them both starting from their very birth. And yeah, normally I’d say Claret but she was created like two or three months before she was born and the whole time I’ve been dying for her to appear and to talk about her.
2. Who’s your current OTP~? Did you matchmake them as Sim God or did they find each other on their own?
Oooo, I secretly craved this question just so I could talk about Carnet! Technically I matchmaked them, but I didn’t expect them to have that much chemistry. Even though I created a story in my head for them long before their generation, I still had to wait for them to click when they actually meet in game. But then there was this one gameplay when I discovered that my heart skips a beat when I see their interactions, so that’s when I knew I’m on the right path with them.
So, what I love about them?
First and foremost, their relationship is so healthy and understanding. They support and love each other in an unconditional way. But, despite that, they’re both their own people with own goals and desires. It matters a lot.
Carn was patiently waiting for Claret while she was figuring things out, and never pressured her. Even if he hoped for her to return his feelings, he respected her too much and valued her as a friend. Eventually, when they got together, their friendship only solidified. Friends to lovers trope rules!
Therefore, they had such a beautiful slow burn. I was living for it. And the scene where they confess their feelings… I proudly consider it one of the best confessions I’ve ever written, if not the best.
They had a special bond from the beginning, since they’re my first and only couple that’s been together in all life stages.
They’re bigger than just a legacy couple. They are ultimate soulmates, meaning they get and stay together in every universe, including original and Valentine’s Day special, and every lifetime (Sunrise and Sunset). I’ve been thinking about it lately and… there’s really not a lot of ultimate soulmates on my blog. It’s rare.
And in TS4 they literally got married on their first date. As I said on Twitter that day, that’s love binch
Dusk and Dawn thing! Maybe it’s not an original naming pattern on berry simblr, but I came to it on my own, though I feared it might seem like I copied from someone. I just liked the name Dawn and wanted to use it for a long time, and upon searching for Carn’s middle name and listening to “Dusk Till Dawn” it clicked in my head.
They’re my first couple to have a double proposal (the only time I was happy my game crashed)
They went through so much stuff to be together, I won’t even list all of it. But to me, Claret saving Carn from the burning house is still the most iconic thing any character of mine could do for their lover. She challenged the laws of nature for him.
I literally cried when they had Cloudberry after all they’ve been through.
Except their epic and serious moments, they had a lot of adorable and funny ones.
They resolve conflicts in a mature way, as seen with their disagreement on Claret’s pregnancy.
It might go on and on, but yeah, for me they’re The OTP and I love them both so much, together and apart. ❤
I must say, I’m glad they’re not my only good couple and there are more. I have another more recent big ship who I didn’t matchmake and there’s actually a very cool story about how they ended up together, but I can’t tell it just yet so that’s for the next time.
3. Which playable Sim(s) is/are annoying you right now? Like, really just pissing you off?
Answered!
4. What’s been the most surprising development of your current rotation/generation/etc?
Hmm, in the Lilygreens, probably Brent. Like I said before, I didn’t expect him to be so amusing. I sometimes read his old posts and they crack me up. Other stuff that I’d like to mention is probably spoilery.
In the Maples, Jesse and Leighton! They shamelessly crawled into my heart and are here to stay, despite not even being legacy sims and serving as extras.
Other legacies, I don’t have much to say since there wasn’t a lot of surprising stuff in Fletcher reboot lately (but I hope the storyline for gen 2 will surprise everyone else since it’s quite unusual), and I haven’t played the Twinkles since May.
Bonus: Have you ever had a couple in game who found each other on their own?
Yes! It’s not a classic definition of it because my couples normally don’t “meet” in game, but there are a few that I didn’t initially plan and they happened due to a nice coincidence or just me feeling like they’d click.
Curtis and Atticus are one of them, I came up with the idea when they both already existed and I was trying to connect their generations and it suddenly made so much sense.
Clarissa and Aimee weren’t an original plan, but somehow, I don’t even know how, they made me ship them.
Kyle, who’s been in my game for almost four years and gave me a lot of shipping struggles, finally *gasp* will have a spouse who he has chemistry with! And the funniest thing? This person has been there all along, but appeared on my blog only once. I don’t know how they found each other. I just thought of it and was like, hell yeah.
Emit and Emma also fall under this category! When me and my friend were just casually playing, we made random sims and one of them (Emma) quickly became friends with Emit. Even though you can’t romance a time traveler, they kept smiling at each other. I was down for it.
And finally, I mentioned this one couple after my big Carnet ramble. Seriously, that’s probably my most exciting story of two sims finding each other. I wish I could tell it now, but I promise I will… very soon, actually.
Whew, it was fun! And if anyone read all this, you’re a hero.

Switch Arcade February Summary
With Valentine’s Day behind us and February almost gone, the Spring air is filled with announcements and big reveals in the gaming world for the coming period. Nintendo Direct packed up plenty of those in the first half of this month, and 2019 is already looking like it’s going to be the ‘Year of the Nintendo Switch’. However, this roundup did not just bring announcements about the awaited games currently in development but gave us a glimpse at Nintendo’s figures and much more.
Nintendo Direct News
The latest Direct was eagerly awaited and people seem to have reacted well to it, overall. There were a few big reveals, like Super Mario Maker 2, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, Dragon Quest XI, Dragon Quest Builders 2, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, Daemon X Machina, DLC, and the long-awaited Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3. New announcements included BoxBoy! + BoxGirl!, Assassin’s Creed 3 Remastered, Astral Chain, Oninaki, Rune Factory 5, Sacrifice, Hellblade: Senua’s, and the fan favorite Tetris 99. We’ve also got update overviews for Captain Toad, Starlink: Battle For Atlas, and the recently released Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Here is the entire video from the Nintendo’s YouTube channel:
youtube
As soon as the announcement was over, they dropped a few of the fan favorites into the online shop, like the Final Fantasy IX and Daemon X Machina: Prototype Missions, while Final Fantasy VII is left for the late March. The Nintendo Switch Online Tetris 99 battle royale mash delighted the fans, while there are some good titles coming soon, it seems.
Nintendo Switch Alex Kidd
The Sega Ages Alex Kidd in Miracle World, an old school classic, was announced earlier in February. It was a pretty popular platformer back in the ‘90s and it is now coming back as a pretty big thing apparently. The release date is not pinpointed exactly but if we follow the Nintendo’s release schedule they’ve adopted so far, which is one game per month, and if we take into account that it’s been put off for quite a while now, it should come in a month or two. Additionally, the fans should expect a worldwide release a month from its Japan release and the game will be immediately available for at least all the major regions right from the start. It will feature all the original music tracks restored, a rewind capability, and a complete version with all the features available if you choose so.
Touhou Sky Arena – Matsuri-Climax
The very essence of everything Japan’s been telling us from the ‘80s until now, this totally weird game Touhou Sky Arena – Matsuri-Climax switch, whatever that means, takes place in the Touhou world. But, the most intricate part if that the battles take place mid-air. Everything splashes and flashes as this title are coming to Switch at $29.99.
Tokyo School Life
As far as the visuals go, this may be the best, most-polished game of the anime-styled wave coming to Switch. Tokyo School Life follows 3 girls in high school, in Tokyo no less, as they adapt to the stereotypical school environment. Each of the girls all has emphasized personality traits of their own. One is athletic and open, one is shy but kind, and the third one is warm-hearted. The game obviously has the social aspect focused above any action. In fact, finding your way in a social environment is the action in Tokyo School Life, and it will cost $14.99.
Modern Combat Blackout
The Modern Combat Switch is a home run for Gameloft, as there is no game of its kind on Switch as of yet. No real-time present time shooter other than this one, so this game is a highlight of 2019 in terms of an FPS shooter like Call of Duty. Available on iOS, Android, and PC, Modern Combat Blackout switch is coming with high hopes and it will only cost $19.99.
Cinders
Nintendo is trying to go in every possible direction genre-wise, one step at the time, and this adventure game with a non-linear storyline is what’s in store for games who love this kind of pace. It is a story driven choice-based game which is best described as an adaptation of Cinderella. It promises to be highly interesting if the early reviews are to be trusted. Cinders switch will naturally be playable multiple times because of the non-linear gameplay style, which is a brilliant way to make additional content available. Also, the subversion of this children’s book is an excellent way to add some familiarity to the game’s world. It will be available at $19.99.
youtube
Final Fantasy IX
The remastered Final Fantasy 9 switch will cost only $20.99, which is great news for the fans of the franchise. The game bears its signature art style, the gameplay may be a little slower than what audiences are used to now, but it is a classic so worth the cost no doubt. From PlayStation to Switch, Final Fantasy IX is here.
Tetris 99
How do you manage to play Tetris in a battle royale environment? Well, nobody would have known the answer as this Tetris 99 Switch addition came as a big surprise to many. It is an MMO battle royale designed by Arika and nurtured by Nintendo of course. It will require a Nintendo Switch Online account and it will feature you, the player, and 99 other players in a single Tetris arena matching and competing against one another where only one can be the victor. Each player will have its own turn as we all attack each other, with that old Tetris song playing in the background. The best part- it is free if you are Subscribed to Nintendo Online!
youtube
Daemon X Machina: Prototype Missions
So far, Daemon X Machina has mixed reviews on the web, as people seem to have expected something different than the game actually offers. While most people had hoped for the well-established mecha tactical fight game, this Daemon X Machina switch action-packed shooter offers a 3rd person view thrill. The game will offer cool visual features, an easy to pick up gameplay mechanic, and the mecha feel to it all. Also, it comes free of charge, so there’s no shame in trying it out!
Other announcements and releases with the price:
Hollow Knight: Silksong
Strikey Sisters $9.99
Pet Care $1.49
OlliOlli: Switch Stance $14.99
Nekopara Vol. 2 $14.99
LOVE $2.99
Hexa Maze $19.99
Guess the Word $1.89
Astrology and Horoscopes Premium $8.99
Alvastia Chronicles $12.99
Nice Slice $1.99
Degrees of Separation $14.99

Review: Resident Evil Revelations
Tumblr media
Release: 2012
My Rating: 8
 Review Under the Cut,
Capcoms’s decision to make a spinoff/prequel to Resident Evil 5 on the 3DS was surprising bordering on baffling. Nintendo’s dual screened, gimmick based system isn’t exactly the home of shooters or horror. That, Resident Evil 5’s lackluster reception and dismal first impressions of Resident Evil 6 left few optimistic for Revelation’s success. Yet, as it turned out, Revelations was not only good but so good there was enough demand to port it to console and spawn a sequel.
The game managed that surprising success by stripping the Resident Evil formula down to the studs. Instead of the action packed, quicktime mashing, exploding set piece filled extravaganzas of contemporary Resident Evil games Revelations shrunk the game’s pacing and scope to something more akin to the franchise’s survival horror roots.
This game is set a few years before Resident Evil 5 and features Jill Valentine as its primary protagonist. She is accompanied by a new partner by the name of Parker. The duo are dispatched to an abandoned cruise ship adrift in the Mediterranean on the trail of Chris Redfield and his current partner, Jessica, who have dropped out of radio contact with their supervisors. All four of the main characters in the game currently work for the BSAA, an international paramilitary operation devoted to combating zombie virus based terrorist attacks.
Once Jill and Parker board the ship it rapidly becomes clear that Chris is not there. Instead Jill and her partner have fallen into a trap laid by a defunct terrorist organization by the name of Veltro. A year prior that same organization had unleashed a bio-terror attack on a fictional Mediterranean city, ultimately resulting in that city’s destruction. The BSAA had a hand in trying to take Veltro down but in the end it was the FBC, an American organization with a similar mission statement to the BSAA, that made the final decisions. However, the Veltro operative on the cruise ship implies that those events may in fact have been some sort of coverup and the two will be trapped on the zombie infested vessel until they uncover the truth.
Meanwhile, in a distant mountain range, Chris and Jessica regain radio contact after a storm passes. They’re investigating a Veltro base there when they’re diverted to go after Jill and Parker. The BSAA then dispatches yet another team of new characters to replace them.
Most of the game takes place from Jill’s perspective on board the Queen Zenobia. However, the game is divided up into episodes and chapters with the player switching their point of view character at the end of every episode. Jill’s arcs are the longest and form the core of the story whilst Chris tracks her down and eventually joins her.
Meanwhile, at an unidentified mountainous location in Europe, series newbies Keith and Quint take over Chris and Jessica’s abandoned mission. These two character are entirely unnecessary. They have only three playable appearances in the game and serve only to make exposition available and contrive to extend the plot. It seems to me it would’ve made more sense to leave Chris and Jessica radio silent longer and have them clear the base before regaining contact. It would’ve helped alleviate a unnecessarily cluttered and predictable story. Revelations also begins every chapter and every resumed game with a ‘previously on…’ montage that’s baffling for a game that did not come out in episodes. Revelations doesn’t need it and all it serves to do is remind the player that, in grand Resident Evil Tradition, the story has more holes in it than mouse-chewed swiss cheese.
So, the story is a little weak, but it does feature the strong return of a beloved series protagonist. Unfortunately the game sacrifices any gender equality points it might have scored by bringing Jill back when Jessica’s character flirts her way through the game, seems obsessed with getting her male teammates to buy her dinner and appears in a confusingly one legged wet suit in the later chapters. She, and the bit character Quint, are obnoxious to a fault. That combined with awkward dialogue contrive to chip away at the game’s veneer of quality…. Not that anyone expects a high standard of quality from this series.
Where the game does shine is in its’ implementation of survivor horror staples. Though Jill enters the ship with a partner the game manages to keep them separated much of the time. So, alone, she creeps through the ship scrounging bullets, gun parts and keys. Revelations has basically all the bells and whistles of its triple A brethren in a smaller scope. There is only one healing herb, puzzles are very minor and usually amount to finding the right item, and instead of juggling inventory space there is simply a max for every type of item that can be carried.
There are two control schemes to choose from depending on the configuration of the 3DS the player is using (unfortunately I have never had the opportunity to play the console edition but imagine the B type button configuration would port directly). One the standard 3DS and XL models the player uses the left bumper to draw their weapon, joystick to aim and right shoulder button to fire. The x button will use the player’s secondary weapon (knife or grenades) that can be cycled with a directional button. However if the player has the right analogue stick peripheral or a “New! 3DS” that comes with a (completely inadequate) right analogue dongle they can switch to an alternate set of controls. Now the player can use the right analogue to aim and the left to move while firing. The secondary weapon is then mapped to the second right shoulder button. Ultimately it’s the superior control scheme and feels much more like a console, especially as it’s the difference between playing with tank controls and movement. I could only play this control scheme on my “New! 3DS” in short bursts though. I found the position my hand needed to curl into to manipulate the right analogue dongle led to frequent cramps and that the dongle wasn’t quite responsive enough for tense combats. The takeaway here is that while this is a completely mind blowing game to have on a portable console and I love playing it on long flights because it’s so distracting….. the player might want to get a console edition for the benefit of a standard controller.
Combat in this game is very solid and flows just like it does in the console Resident evils. The player shoots from a over the shoulder point of view, with a red laser sight for a targeting reticule. Tapping on a directional button rotates through up to three weapons the playable character can carry. All the usual firearms return and can be upgraded at weapon benches throughout the ship with parts picked up while the player explores. During certain events the player may also pick up a one-use rocket launcher which will take the place of one of their three guns. My minor gripe with this is that after using the rocket the player cannot pick up the discarded gun again and must return to a weapons bench in order to reequip the lost gun.
The biggest change Capcom made to the formula comes in the form of a gun-shaped scanner called the Genesis. It too is mapped to one of the directional buttons and can be used just like a gun. It can scan living or dead enemies to compile data on them. Once a 100% compilation score is reached the player will receive a damage bonus to that enemy. Filling the gauge more times gifts the player with healing items. Additionally, with the Genesis drawn, the player will sometimes see a pulsing symbol in the lower corner of the screen. This indicates hidden items the Genesis can reveal. Finding and scanning the right area with allow the player to collect extra ammo, healing items and explosives which becomes essentially to keeping stocked at the end of the game. Revelations nails the inventory management, keeping ammo just scarce enough to keep the player on edge but available enough to never leave them in the lurch.
Likewise, Revelations plays with audio to great effect which makes playing the portable version with headphones a must. The ship creaks and groans, and while normal enemies are earilly silent and prone to creeping up on players, elite enemies and bosses have their own distinctive audio tracks to warn of their approach and raise the player’s hackles. The graphics are also outstanding and the models look great (provided they’re not supposed to be speaking because their lips rarely move when they should). While the game probably doesn’t look very impressive on console it’s pretty stunning for a five year old portable game.
Revelations blew minds, not because it did anything too revolutionary, but because apparently Capcom hadn’t forgotten how to make a good horror game. The combat was tight, the gameplay and pacing snappy and the difficulty curve just right. Moreover it debuted on a handheld and managed to make the game feel like a meaty entry to the franchise all the same. Whether or not the player likes Resident Evil as a whole Revelations is worth checking out for horror fans everywhere. It’s a little light, a little cheesy, and a little action-adventurey but for all that a solid zombie shooter a great intro to the second half of the series.

Flywrench Launches February 14 on PS4
Hello, lovely people! I hope you enjoy our Valentine’s Day gift to you — a new game from us at Messhof, the creators of Nidhogg! Flywrench launches on PS4 February 14!
Flywrench is a tough-as-nails, masorcore-ish game that’s somewhere between a platformer and a physics puzzle. We’ve been working on it since 2007 if you can believe it — you might even have played Mark’s early prototype version of the game! If you play games like Team Meat’s Super Meat Boy (actually, Flywrench was a playable character!) or Roll7’s OlliOlli, then this is right up your alley.
Your character is a white line. No, seriously, you are a tiny white line. You are a tiny white line ship. If you don’t press anything you will drop to the bottom of the level and explode! Don’t do that. You can flap to stay aloft. Left and right adds momentum each way. You can do a barrel roll or 10, but you won’t be able to control your ship in this mode. Each move changes you color — while flapping, you’re red. If you’re rolling, you’re green. If you aren’t doing either, you’re white.
Obstacles come in a bunch of different colors, but if they’re one of the three that you can switch to then you can phase right through it untouched. It’s a little different, but you’ll get the hang of it right away. At AGDQ this past year there were some incredible Flywrench full story runs that were nearly flawless!
There are 199 levels and they come at you with the quickness. Flap, spin, and bounce through all kinds of tricky color coded obstacles and into the exit. We spent a lot of time tuning the controls just right, so when you die (Which you will… often) you’ll know it was all your fault. Bad gamer, bad!
In addition to the main campaign, we’ve also included a Time Trial mode so that you can race against players globally. Also — and this is only available on PS4, we’ve included a whole new pack of “Asteroid” levels in Time Trial. They’re fierce.
I may be a bit biased, but this is pretty much the best game soundtrack ever, so far (We are working on some killer music for Nidhogg 2!). Daedelus, who we were lucky to work with on OG Nidhogg, wove together an awesome soundtrack from some of the best producers around like Machinedrum, Baths, Dntel, Sweatson Klank, and many more. You can actually listen to the soundtrack in-game through an old school “Sound Test” screen.
Okay, that’s enough from me. I super duper hope you check out our game! If you’re afraid of hard games, don’t worry, we baby you for a bit until you learn how to control your ship… but not for long.

Traditional New Years fandom meme under the cut:
1. Your main fandom of the year: ...Honestly, I don't even know. It probably would have been Mass Effect, given that I replayed the trilogy over the summer and Andromeda was supposed to come out; but that game was delayed and I've just sort of been dabbling in things for the latter half of the year. IDK this year has been awful in more ways than one.
2. Your favorite film this year: Arrival! It was great, surreal, my mom and I loved it. I hadn't seen any previews until the movie was already out, someone mentioned it on Tumblr and I realized it was a movie based off of one of my favorite short stories and I wanted to see it immediately. Zootopia and Rogue One were also good.
3. Your favorite book this year: Hugh Howey's Wool trilogy was the most engrossing thing I read this year; all three books were packed with interesting dilemmas and secrets, and I could not put them down. I was hooked by the end of the first chapter. Corrine Duyvis' On the Edge of Gone is a close second for its awesomely accurate portrayal of an autistic character.
4. Your favorite album or song this year: I discovered the band Arrows to Athens early on this year and have been enjoying their music ever since; my favorite song by them is Ghosts in the Water.
5. Your favorite TV show this year: The TV show I was most excited for this year was Black Mirror! I saw their first two seasons and really enjoyed the Twilight Zone vibe updated for modern television. This season had twice as many episodes as the first two, but I still wanted more. My favorite episodes were Nosedive, San Junipero, and Hated in the Nation. This year I also enjoyed watching iZombie, Dark Matter, and Stranger Things on Netflix.
6. Your favorite tumblr moment this year: BODE. Don't let your dreams be dreams.
7. Your best new fandom discovery of the year: I don't know that I joined any new fandoms this year? In January I played the video game SOMA and was captivated by the dark, existential story. I read a bunch of fanfiction about it for several weeks.
8. Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year: Last year I was disappointed the new Mediator book hadn't come out; this year I'm disappointed that it DID come out and I hated it. The characterization was way off, it rehashed old plotlines that had previously been resolved, and was ultimately not a good continuation of the series. The fact that I was really looking forward to it made the disappointment even worse. Also Mass Effect Andromeda got delayed until next year and I was really looking forward to that too.
9. Your fictional boyfriend of the year: The characters I read the most shippy fanfiction about this year are probably Hancock and Nick Valentine from Fallout 4. I wish they had been more developed, like, say, Bioware characters are, but the game gave them good base stories and fanfic helped fill in the rest of the blanks.
10. Your fictional girlfriend of the year: You know what? Leslie Knope. I need someone to commiserate with through this mess of a year, to share outrage with, and to distract me with waffles and scrapbooks and a new positive outlook on things afterwards. That's who I needed this year.
11. Your biggest squee moment of the year: I went to San Diego Comic Con and met Christopher Lloyd in person! I have a picture of it! I saw the rest of the BttF cast in a panel, too, it was awesome.
12. Your most missed old fandom: I will never forget my first RPG, not only because I love it, but because there have actually been recent updates! Apparently an indie game developer is remastering KotOR in modern engines with updated graphics and maps, and it looks AWESOME so far. Even if they never release a playable game it's amazing to see what those places could look like in better graphics. Also I can play the original game on my Kindle Fire now. I have played it in an airplane. Technology is amazing.
13. Your fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to? ...I've been sitting here trying to think of something, and I can't? Someone recommend something to me.
14. Your biggest anticipation of the New Year: Considering that for the last few years my biggest anticipations have subsequently been my biggest disappointments, it would probably be wise not to hope for anything this year. That being said, I cannot help myself, I am still extremely excited for Mass Effect Andromeda. Here's hoping it does not disappoint.
