Here’s a humble treat! (I hope you enjoy)

this is the Osedax

It is a sea worm that eat bones!

Currently they seem to specialize in whalefalls, however they’ll eat all types of bones, gator, turtle, and even Dinos!

they burn holes in the outer shell of the bone to get to the marrow and then feed of that, creating distinctive holepocked pattern

and guess what!

We’ve found their feeding pattern on ocean fossils from as far back as the Cretaceous period, which is before whales even existed.

they don’t eat anything else, just bone, and they subsist on just whales, at the bottom of the ocean 🌊!

Oh yeah they live at the bottom of the ocean, despite what is often claimed about the sea floor, there are ecosystems down there. But it’s still a really harsh environment down there.

and these guys just power though!
