There's lots of dadkoda being protective of Zuko but I also want Bato being protective of Zuko! Like Bato has a lot of intimate knowledge of burns and scars so when he sees a burn scar like that on a child he just feels so much sorrow. Then when he finds out how it happened hes just, absolutely seething over how someone could do that to their own son?? And he's aware with all the issues come with a scar like that (pain, insecurity, trauma etc) and wants to be there for zuko as much as possible

omg this just made me so sad but bittersweet. I can see the both of them treating their wounds. Bato knows Zuko doesn’t really need to use the salve as much as he does but Zuko enjoys the talks they have together. Zuko enjoys talking, Bato learns. So when Zuko is taking trips to the South, he usually finds Bato (makes sure that Bato is actually using his medicine because if not he definitely threatens to tell Hakoda and Bato does not need his husband fretting over him all day) and they spend the day in the Chief and his husband’s home (because Hakoda probably has work or something) and Bato finds he’s oddly protective of the young firebender when he starts to open up more; when he starts to tell Bato the truth behind his scar. Bato feels the rage filling him. He knows there’s nothing he can do but if he could, Bato would march to the Fire Nation prison Ozai is being held and chew the man out himself. 

Because Hakoda is the I’m gonna kill him dad when he sees Ozai. Bato uses his words to hurt him.

He gets a new computer and drags Hahn to operate all his [Pakku’s] shit, but Hahn is also not a tech guy.

So on the first 404 error, Hahn has to tell him that it broke. And then they both just stare at it. Pakku ends up being blacklisted by the tech support place because how does he not understand. And no, warranty does not apply because you deliberately waterbent your PC, Pakku.

In a modern AU, Pakku would be banned from going to tech stores, or owning anything better than a nokia after the last incident where his gifted phone ended up in the bathtub plumbing. (He breaks 5 nokias before the 6th didn’t.)

If I see any post disrespecting Katara I just have to assume it’s Pakku behind the screen.

to be fair i dont think the show wanted anyone to hate pakku. they probably just expected everyone to forgive him and idk, respect him as a master and ally after he and katara finished that arc? thats why he was there with the other white lotus members. i think its just that us modern audiences are a lot less willing to let his misogyny go even if he learned his lesson, cause he was a grown old man holding grudges that long is too much.

yea this was a point brought up in the notes on that post somewhere and i do agree. we know bryke is far from perfect, i get that they didn’t intentionally villainize him. 

but the point still stands that bryke simply ... didn’t care much about him at all. they figured they could kind of write him off and get away w it. they tend to throw away a lot of darker skinned side characters who should have had more emotional impact on the gaang, actually. jet and yue’s death should have had a significant impact on them but they were hardly ever mentioned after they died, beyond one or two jokes. 

i admit my initial comparison of iroh vs pakku wasn’t fair, because iroh is a main character and pakku isn’t. but it still sits unwell with me that people are enthusiastic to shit on him but more cautious when criticizing iroh. and it isn’t like iroh’s misogyny is hard to read, we see three different characters recognize it (even if the narrative plays those moments for laughs). your comment about modern audiences recognizing pakku’s misogyny has another side of the coin: newer fandom should be able to recognize his misogyny if they can recognize pakku’s. 

my main issue is that fandom should apply more critical thinking when talking about iroh instead of reblogging a ‘all my homies hate pakku’ joke and saying that’s enough feminism for today.
