I was gonna ask what each of the LIs like most about Iggy, but then I started daydreaming too much about the topic. So, I'm just gonna give you my headcanons, and you can decide how accurate they are. They do veer a bit into the psychoanalysis side, so beware.
[General OW spoiler warning!]

.
Genzou
Personality: I think he likes how kind and sincere Iggy is. It's obvious that Genzou hates being vulnerable. He always wants to be "in charge" and "on top" of things so as not to be seen as weak. However, Iggy is one of, if not the only person he ever opens up to, and it's easy to see why. Iggy is very non-judgemental. He always has people's best interest in mind and is never malicious (well, except Arc 3...). The only times he ever judges people is out of concern, like when Bucks first ran away in Arc 1 or when he meets Gidget in Wonderland. Also, Iggy doesn't mind being vulnerable around Genzou at all, in fact, he's one of the first people he goes to when things go awry. And I think that helps Genzou feel safer with him as well. If Iggy trusts him with all his wrongs and anxieties, then why shouldn't he do the same? It's also really interesting how a big part of their relationship, from Iggy's perspective, is him feeling safe with Genzou. But I don't think he realizes how safe he makes Genzou feel.
Appearance: I think Genzou likes Iggy's hands. I don't really know why. Maybe it's the fact that hand-holding is a gesture associated with safety. It's seen as a way to keep someone close to you, to always know they're right there near you and keep them from wandering off. And to me that fits really well with the whole theme of their relationship... He also likes his butt too, I guess.
Orlam
Personality: I think he likes how easygoing and understanding Iggy is. Obviously, Orlam has spent a good majority of his life being controlled by others, having to follow somebody else's rules, which is a big part of his wish and character arc as a whole. However, the first person to show him that he doesn't have to submit, that he can make his own rules was Iggy. Even if he still went along with the bullying at times, he was the most sympathetic and understanding towards Orlam. And that follows up into the present. Iggy doesn't expect anything of Orlam, he doesn't try to control him or force him to follow any rules. And he does the same for Iggy. They've got a sort of mutual understanding where both of them just kind of do whatever they want, following their own rules, and not really caring of the other person's wants don't exactly match up with their own. They don't even have to label their relationship as anything, they're just "two people who care about each other". Besides that, however, it's pretty obvious how Orlam likes teasing Iggy. Which I think has to do with a combination of Iggy's more demure nature, but also what I mentioned earlier. His social awkwardness and general cluelessness make him an easy target, but he's also not the type to take the teasing too seriously or make a big deal out of it.
Appearance: I think Orlam likes Iggy's hair. He's always described to be touching it and playing with it, which I find cute. Maybe it's because it feels intimate and tactile without being sexual. I also wanna say he likes his neck, considering... well, I'm sure you can figure out why.
Gidget
Personality: I think Gidget would like Iggy's passion and humor. Underneath all his anxious and self-deprecating tendencies, Iggy can be very enthusiastic and witty. He has or had plenty of interests which he cared a lot about, and he can be very exuberant about them if in the right company. And I feel like Gidget would really enjoy that. It highlights how they have the most in common out of the friend group. They share a lot of interests and have plenty of inside jokes, which shows how close they are. Most of the time they spent together as kids was in the computer lab, bonding over a shared interest, and even in adulthood there's a lot of things that they find mutual interest in. It feels like they can talk about anything to each other and never find it boring. But I also feel like there's another side to this. Envy. Iggy, for the most part, was able to express his interests freely, something that Gidget couldn't. And I feel like as much as they like this about Iggy genuinely, there's still a small part of them that likes it because they also wish they could be like that. In fact, that's kind of something I realized about Gidget's character. They imitated Iggy not just because they wanted to get closer to him, but also because they wanted to be more like him. Iggy's clearly a boy—but he's not hyper masculine, maybe even somewhat androgynous, so it feels like to Gidget used him as a sort of role model for their own appearance and interests. In their mind, the closer they got to being like Iggy, the more they could be perceived in a similar manner gender wise. In other words—gender envy.
Appearance: I think Gidget likes his face, more specifically his eyes. Those are the things that let them most easily see Iggy's emotions. They can see how his eyes light up when he accomplishes something or hears good news, or how they droop when he's about to say something witty or make a reference, or the way they squint when he's hyperfocused on work or a game. It also helps them know when Iggy's uncomfortable or sad so they can chime in and help, even if Iggy himself doesn't wanna admit anything's wrong. I think Gidget would also like his body? Not in a sexual way, of course, I think they'd just find his skinny stature kinda cute. And again, some gender envy may or may not be at play too...
I also just wanna say, it's really impressive how you managed to make all the LIs so unique and likeable in their own ways! Usually, I have a clear favorite when it comes to these things, but this is one of those cases where I don't. Genzou is my favorite in terms of who to ship with Iggy, but I like Orlam the most as a character, and I really enjoy Gidget's routes. They also all play off of each other really well, even when Iggy's not in the picture. They're all incredibly well-written and I commend you for that!
ahhhhhHHHHHHHHHHH
i love these... 🥺
these all feel incredibly accurate??? i really loved reading them, like, seeing how other people interpret the dynamics and how much of my own intentions (or unintentions??? lol) come across in how people read and experience the different relationships and dynamics between the characters. lakjdflasd i love reading analyses like these so much HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
"I think Genzou likes Iggy's hands." -> sob i agree... maybe it's also partly because their hands are so so different from each other, which i think is a wonderful reflection of how they themselves are so different from each other, but still can intertwine so perfectly... owowo... 🥺 i feel like it's a thing i revisit even in a lot of my silly self-indulgent art a lot without realizing it, too LOL and from both sides. i really like drawing iggy with his face in genzou's palm for instance 💦
"I think Orlam likes Iggy's hair." -> I DO SEEM TO WRITE THAT A LOT DON'T I???? i'm only just thinking about it now and realizing it comes up often with these two... 🤣 I like how you mentioned them both just feeling like they can do their own thing without worrying about the other as I feel like that really does form such a crux when it comes to their dynamic. Because they are so different and enjoy such different things, but yet they still act as each other's anchor at the end of the day, a place to come back to.
"In other words—gender envy." -> I NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT THIS BEFORE BUT IT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE???? my gosh... that feels so accurate 🤣 why do i only ever notice stuff like this when others point it out??? this is why i love analyses so much LKDFJASD other people are so much better at noticing and identifying stuff like this... sob. i really love this idea though and think it works really well. also the stuff about them honestly being the most similar of the options, particularly in their interests and their weird inside jokes and all that. i like that about their dynamic
"They're all incredibly well-written and I commend you for that!" -> WEEP THAT'S VERY KIND 😭💕 i'm really happy to hear that, especially as it's one of the things i really wanted to make sure was there in the different options. i really wanted all of the dynamics to be very different while still all feeling like both worthy and realistic options for how the story could end, in a way
THANK YOU FOR THIS THIS WAS SUCH A DELIGHT TO READ???? i am not being hyperbolic in saying that reading analyses really touches my heart and stirs my brain. i just absolutely love hearing how other people interpret the chars or events in the games or the relationships lakjfas
#ask: ow#ask: iggy#ask: genzou#ask: orlam#ask: gidget#ask: genzy#ask: orly#ask: gidgy#ow: finale spoilers#i feel like it's not really spoiler territory for the finale but adding just in case

Did another ask meme, this time it was this one by PrismaticUniverses!
Same as previous ask memes, putting the responses under a cut to keep from destroying everyone's dashboards but if you read all of it I love you forever and ever okay
Ship featured is:
Crash's Toyhouse is here for anyone interested! I also have a little ship explanation page set up for everyone here!
Proship and Minors please do not interact
❤️ How did they meet? Was it love at first sight, immediate enemies, or something in between?
Crash meets all three during their time in high school!!
Crash was in the same grade/classes as Hizashi and Shouta (and Oboro) and meets Nemuri through them while hanging out on the rooftop
It was definitely love at first sight for everyone even if it took them awhile to actually address the feelings 🤭
================================================
🧡 How do they become friends? do they ask up front or is it a gradual realization?
Hizashi was hanging out with Oboro and Shouta out in front of UA before the first class of the day and noticed Crash nervously standing nearby trying to gather the courage to actually walk into the building on its first official day at UA and set his sights on befriending it.
Crash was listening to some music to try and calm its nerves and Hizashi used that as a launching point asking what it was listening to and bonding with it over mutual taste in music. After a minute or two of discussion he asks Crash if it wants to meet his friends and the rest is history 😌
================================================
💛 What are their favorite activities to do together? or what do they usually do when they spend time together?
Shouta and Crash like to just kinda do quiet activities together/parallel play as they do their own separate things. They especially love to take naps together!
Hizashi and Crash like to listen to music, dance and just otherwise jam together.
Nemuri and Crash enjoy doing anything that allows them to be close to each other physically (cuddling while watching movies for example)
But also since she’s the modern art history teacher for UA I like to think they go on art gallery/museum dates a lot too. Crash loves to listen to her go on about the art pieces and Nem likes listening to Crash infodump about things like science/quirk science and retrofuturism
================================================
💚 Do they both realize they have a crush early on, or does it take them forever to realize?
All four realize they have crushes on each other pretty quickly but Crash, Shouta and Hizashi are STAUNCHLY in denial about it at first like whatttt?? Me?? Crushing on my best friends???? Yeah right hahaha!!!! *nervous sweating*
================================================
🩵 Do they both act different once they realize they’re falling for the other? maybe stuttering or fidgeting or daydreaming more often?
Nemuri definitely gets a bit more flirty with Crash, Shouta and Hizashi specifically when she realizes for sure
Crash and Hizashi are a little more openly flustered around the others at times (Crash more than Hizashi, I feel like he’d be better at keeping his cool even if only marginally so heehee) but Shouta I doubt would really act any differently outwardly
They’re close friends with a lot of responsibilities though so it wouldn't be frequent enough to disrupt anyone’s lives, just sprinkled in here and there tastefully <3
================================================
💙 Do they pine and yearn for each other quietly, or can they not stop talking about the other to their friends/family?
Shouta pines quietly for the most part but I think it’d be cute if he slipped up every now and then and accidentally said or did something that showed his pining 😌. Glancing at one of them a little too long, putting his hand on their shoulder/other forms of lingering touches, more subtle things like that
Hizashi would pine very loudly but wouldn’t realize just how obvious he was being about his crush unless someone said something about it. Just constant yapping about how great/cool/handsome/pretty/whatever he thinks the other three are that he thinks comes off as purely platonic but very much does not to anyone that’s actually paying attention lmao
Crash would be incredibly similar to Hizashi though it realizes a bit more quickly that its compliments are coming off as a bit more than just platonic and gets flustered/starts to deflect any way it can
Nemuri is definitely the most straightforward about her feelings for the other three, openly flirting with them (which they misinterpret as just something she does with everyone), talking dreamily about them to mutual friends/coworkers, etc
================================================
💜 How do they confess? Is it a grand gesture or in a more mundane moment?
I guess it’d be classified as being a more mundane moment?? Nemuri gathers everyone on what they assumed would just be a regular friend hangout and just drops the “We’re all crushing on each other, what are we going to do about it” bombshell onto the other three prompting a bit of fake confusion that melts into them being honest with each other about having developed feelings leading into them forming a polycule <3

HI OKAY I SEE YOU WRITE SOME TANIMURA RELATED STUFF-
If it isn't that big of a bother would you mind writing something about Tanimura x SEA asian reader? Like sharing songs from their respective countries and listening to them together hhdjf (doing this because I'm SEA asian- I recommend listening to Sempurna if it's a song from my country‼️‼️)
YES I love Tanimura he is a little babey and OMG YES this is so so cute, Tanimura does seem like the type of guy to totally gush over sharing things like this with his partner. Headcanons below the cut and thanks as always for being patient!
Tanimura feels alienated a lot of the time in Kamurocho. He's very aware that everyone else is aware that he's not fully Japanese. He's not embarrassed or ashamed of it but he does get treated differently from time to time for being mixed race.
After meeting you and learning that you're also not fully Japanese, he feels kind of relieved that he has someone he can relate to. You both have a mutual understanding about what it feels like to not entirely fit in.
He gets so excited to share some of his favorite non-Japanese Asian things, mainly food. Takes you to Homeland all the time and wants to try foods from your culture too. Very adventurous with food and will try anything once.
Could stay up all night talking to you about your home country. Tanimura honestly wishes he could connect more with his Thai heritage or that he could have more time off of work to travel all over Asia, but he gets to live vicariously by talking to you, the both of you daydreaming of the places you'll go and the things you do.
He'd totally sing non-Japanese songs with you at karaoke, if they have them available. He's particularly good at singing in Korean or Tagalog.
You two will absolutely end up being the couple on the subway sharing a pair of earbuds. You'll make playlists for each other of songs you like from your respective cultures. He also ends up getting you into the idol scenes of other countries. Will try to learn the words to your favorite song from your home country even if he doesn't know how to speak that language fluently yet.
His go-to non-Japanese song is DOPE by BTS. He also loves any song by Teresa Tang.

could you do a little series on harry styles's songs about youuuu???? feel like it would be cute plus you're a phenomenal writer!!!!
harry's songs dedicated to you
wc: 800-ish??
pairing: harry styles x female reader
warnings: kinda suggestive, really fluffy and kinda funny not gonna lie
note: i had so much fun writing this. thank you for the compliment ilysm anon <3
harry’s songs about you….
obviously you were his muse for both of his albums
hs1 you were secretly dating
(mostly a friends with benefits type of situation)
and during the fine line era you were both officially a very serious couple
“harry styles and mystery girl step out for a bite in london!”
about a month later, “harry styles spotted with the same girl in los angeles!"
the news headlines could go on and on....
everyone was curious about who harry based his songs off of
and now they know!
“source closed to styles says: they’ve been together for a really long time. they’re really in love”
back to the songs!
only angel is an obvious one
the sexy, mysterious person that harry was pining over in this song
it made you feel powerful
you’re the girl who’s an angel in public eye and “a devil in between the sheets”
that song describes the fire in the beginning of your relationship
the touchy, can’t keep your hands off of each other, kind of relationship
aka the highest your libido has ever been
now woman…. that song literally made you fall in love with him
well this is before told him that you fell in love him…it was a secret for a while…
but now he knows and it’s mutual so it’s fine. anyway!
harry poured his feelings for you into this song
how you spent the first night at his house watching romantic comedies on netflix
and then he cherished every curve and dip of your body in his bed ;)
but your relationship kinda fell apart for a while
because harry was seen with countless models (he’s stupid)
soooo you ended up wanting to take a break bc you felt the feelings weren’t mutual with him
(but they were….y’all were just too scared to tell each other)
then you somehow got a boyfriend :(
that wasn’t harry :(
and you felt happy but still unfinished???
bc how could you ever replace harry f’ing styles.
so he finished this song by writing it about being envious of the man that won you over
honestly, h was so distraught he thought he lost you forever
then the other songs that weren’t really about you, just his life in general.
carolina (rolls eyes), sign of the times, kiwi, ever since ny….
two ghosts aka both of your sad souls being without each other
h was inspired to write meet me in the hallway about you two meeting again after being apart for a few months
you saw each other in the hallway of your apartment complex for the first time :0
gasp!! such a coincidence!!
as soon as you got home, you broke up with your bf over text.
then harry let you listen to his finished album and you cried like a big baby
he consoled you with kisses n cuddles
you told him “i love you so much” in a fit of pure emotion
and he says that he loves you back (yay!!!!!)
you guys spend every minute with each other
you ended up moving in with him
you travelled with him to nyc, la, everywhere!
after a few years, harry started writing fine line
now this was a more sex positive! female power! divine woman! kinda album
watermelon sugar is a no brainer- we all know what it’s about
cough the female orgasm cough cough
specifically how he likes going doooown….town…
adore you, cause duh… he adores you??!!?!
(cherry just does not exist in this scenario)
she bc you’re the girl in his daydreams
aka the woman of his DREAMS
sunflower is just all his happiness from you poured into a song
and you remind him of sunflowers :’)
and the lil addition of, “kiss in the kitchen like it’s a dance floor”
you guys literally dance in the kitchen while making dinner
and when you heard that lyric you almost died
you definitely cried bc it’s such a small intimate thing he added
tpwk because harry is the kindest person in the world
fine line and falling bc emo harry came out
mostly bc y’all like to argue and harry gets upset
and just writes sad songs to cope with his problems
but he does have a therapist so that also helps!
(you do too, don’t lie)
let’s just say you’re literally his inspiration for his albums
hs3 is gonna be a whirlwind especially
bc there’s a heavy ring sitting pretty on a specific finger on your left hand ;)

we don't know that we know each other au
joshua hong x gender neutral reader
warnings: some light nsfw content at the beginning
notes: based on a very long au prompt I found and I thought it would be fun to write!! didn't wanna do a holiday party so just. think of it as a normal party ok bye pls enjoy!
the original prompt: my boss is always telling me how perfect her son would be for me and she promises he's coming to the next holiday party and don't worry he's heard all about me too and ALSO there's this dude i slept with once a couple of months ago and sometimes he still sends me dick pics when i ask him to at 3 in the morning cause seriously dude's got a good dick AU
it was a good one night stand. he was pretty cute, your friends dared you to pick up a guy from the bar and joshua was there
and he was good in bed, so good that you both kept up a lazy friends with benefits agreement- less friends more benefits
you didn’t know what the hell joshua did with his life. maybe he liked painting? who knows but the dick was too good to ask
you both mutually sent nudes when either of you needed to get off, it was good and didn’t need any commitment
he was nice enough from what you remember, you just weren’t looking for a relationship
this was something your boss did not understand
this lady, bless her heart, was convinced you needed to meet her son because you would supposedly look so good together
you had given her your standard explanation that you weren’t looking for anything serious but she was determined to have you two meet
joshua didn’t mind going to the annual company parties for his mom, her company was moderately big so he could expect decent food/drinks- all he had to do was show up in a suit
she never forced him to come, joshua always came because he wanted to support his mom but this year it was different
she was quite insistent about making him meet one of her graphic designers and it was becoming annoying
his mom liked to play matchmaker for him and the people were usually nice, but nothing ever came of it
but something in him figured it would be good to go, just to see what would happen
the party started innocently enough, he greeted everyone from family friends to board members who had known him since he was a teenager
he was admittedly having a good time, mixing and mingling with everyone while sipping a beer
until his mom told him he was gonna bring the graphic designer over so they could meet. he abandoned the drink just in case things got serious
and serious is the understatement of the century because he expected a lot of things, but the last thing he expected was to see you
and holy shit it was him. he looked really nice, way better than your drunk memory actually. he was clearly trying not to seem affected but you saw right through him
oh god you didn’t notice your mouth was open and now you’re just screaming to yourself “bitch fix your face FIX YOUR FACE!!!”
…your boss was right though, you were clearly a good match because you had seen far more than his face
she’s like “hi 😁 here’s my son joshua! 😁 joshua this is y/n, I’ll let you two have some time to talk” and ohhhh my god the tension between you two once she left
it was you. he absolutely was not drunk enough for any of this wow
but you were so beautiful, he hated that he forgot all the details of your face the last time he saw you
you both greeted each other quietly, silently taking each other in and sitting with the tension of the moment
“should we go somewhere to talk?” joshua’s gentle tone shook you out of your daydream and of course you obliged
you both walked out of the main hall to a large foyer, stealing glances of each other like you both couldn't believe the other person was real and not just someone you traded nudes with
you burst into laughter at the same time because what the fuck were the odds??? how did your only one night stand happen to come back into your life so easily?
“it’s nice to finally meet you,” you sheepishly admitted to him and it was true- you didn't really talk last time at all, and if you did it was lost to the blurriness of that night
“you too,” he smiled at you again and the tension seemed to dissolve a bit
“I’d really like to get to know you if you’ll let me,” he reached his hand out to grab yours and oh my god the way your heart started beating faster……
you didn’t want a relationship. you swear you didn’t. but when joshua looked at you like that, how could you say no? you could give it a try and see what happened
“I would love that,” you replied and you could visibly see his mood get lighter. if you said no, the possible frown on his face would’ve been too much to bear
you spent the rest of the party sitting at a table back in the main hall learning about each other’s lives inside and out
the conversation felt so natural between the two of you, you normally wouldn't feel this inclined to share so much about your personal life
joshua noticed your hesitation at first, but he was so understanding and never tried to get anything out of you. he kept reassuring you that it was ok! no pressure! I just wanna take in as much as you’ll let me have of you
it was nice to confide in him, it made you feel like you could trust him with any of your secrets
you didn’t even notice that a few hours had passed since you started talking, it wasn’t until joshua pointed out that most of the people had left that you looked around
you both gathered your things and walked out of the venue together, your brain still buzzing with all the new things you learned about him
he wanted to take you home and you were jumping at the chance to do it until you remembered that your car was there- you didn’t want to let him down but he quickly reassured you that it was fine
“it’s okay, we probably shouldn’t have sex on the first date anyways” he replied and it made you laugh so hard.. like ok he’s very funny too?
“so this was a date then?” you messed with him just to hear his response
“yeah of course!” the way his face lit up oh my god you could have screamed!!! so cute!
you exchanged goodbyes and you began to walk away until you felt his hand on yours
he pulled you closer until your lips connected and it felt like you had never been apart
he was so gentle with you yet so passionate, it seemed like he was making up for lost time- it was all so tender and you couldn't help but smile at how sweet it all was
he pulled away from the kiss and quietly asked you why you were smiling, a tiny smile played on his lips
your cheeks were flushed red... you could barely even look at him! much less reply!! you just put your hands over your face instead
he gave a little fake gasp of shock like omg!! he knew you were shy but not this much!! but he thought it was so adorable, it took everything in him to not kiss you again
he heard you giggle, he pried your hands off your face slowly and you made eye contact again, he whispered "why are you so cute" and AAAA it made you melt even more
he didn't have to be so patient with you but he was. it made you regret not giving each other a chance before
and oh god you hate thinking about all the kisses he could’ve given you in the time you've been apart.
but fate brought joshua to you now for a reason, so why question the timing?
as he sent you off to your car with a small wave and a smile, you knew that you couldn’t imagine your life without knowing how things turned out with joshua hong <3

Hey!! Since you did such an amazing job on my first request I wanted to send you one more! ^^ How about a Levi x reader where the reader is a baker and delivers bread for the survey corps and Levi ends up crushing on her? Since Levi stutters and gets a little clumsy when he has a crush I think it'd be cute if you added it into this! Thank u <3
Wednesdays
[ Levi x Fem!Reader ]
[ Fluff - Canonverse ]
Summary: (Y/N) finds herself amused by Levi's shy side, only for the roles to be reversed when an accident occurs.
Content Warning: shy but protective Levi
Word Count: 1k
ㅤ
ㅤ
Eren put a fist over his heart, saluting the well-respected soldier standing before him. “Captain! The commander has been looking for you, he said you’ve missed this morning’s meeting.”
ㅤ
No response.
ㅤ
The young cadet was concerned, his superior officer had been significantly spacing out a lot these days. With a loud and harsh ‘ahem’, he managed to knock Levi out of his reverie.
ㅤ
“What is it, Yeager?”
ㅤ
“The commander is asking for the reason behind your absence at the meeting held earlier today. He wants you in his office as soon as possible, sir.”
ㅤ
Levi was too entangled in his own thoughts that he failed to take cognizance of his surroundings. He even forgot about his work-related plans with Erwin.
ㅤ
“Tch, tell Eyebrows I dealt with some brats who skipped training.” Not even a second after, the shorter man walked off, finding another spot to lose himself to his daydreams to.
ㅤ
Finding another spot to wait for your arrival.
ㅤ
ㅤ
Perhaps one of the sweetest things in the wretched world he lived in was falling in love. It was a natural process. No forcing of chemistry. Just raw feelings.
ㅤ
He doesn’t remember when it started, but it just happened all at once. It was unexpected and unhoped for. The only thing he was certain of was that he was falling hard for you, for the baker who visited on Wednesdays. Levi could only hope the feeling was mutual.
ㅤ
ㅤ
---
ㅤ
ㅤ
Sitting inside a carriage for three hours wasn’t exactly the ideal way of spending your morning.
ㅤ
Your consciousness was ebbing away from the rhythm of the tracks. The lids of your eyes were growing heavy as you lazily stared out the window. It was a long journey travelled from the bakery to the Survey Corps headquarters, all just to deliver bread.
ㅤ
However, a familiar face that slowly appeared from the distance snatched your interest, making you forget about how you were just being lulled into doziness a few moments ago.
ㅤ
You caught Levi looking at you, as to which he immediately looked away, feigning ignorance of your imminent arrival.
ㅤ
Once the carriage came to a halt, you excitedly got off to greet the short Ackerman.
ㅤ
ㅤ
“I saw you looking, were you waiting for me? I thought military captains had busy schedules, hmm?”
ㅤ
He scratched the non-existent itch on the back of his neck, giving his hands something to do to look less awkward. “Nosey brat, I wasn’t waiting for you. To be honest I didn’t even notice your arrival until I heard that annoying voice, tch. I was just-“
ㅤ
“You were just what?” Playing coy, you looked at him as innocent as possible, bringing your face closer to his until only an inch of a gap was left.
ㅤ
He lowered his head, cheeks glowing with a deep scarlet shade. “I-I was just making sure if, you know, i-if the cadets were u-uhm...” The man threaded his calloused hand through his hair. Shit. Deciding to just get it over with, he quickly mumbled in a nearly inaudible fashion. “I was just watching if the cadets were trying to skip training again.”
ㅤ
“Oh, were you really?”
ㅤ
With a dismissive wave of a hand to shove you off him, “Shut up, (Y/N). Let’s get back to business so you can leave the fuck already.”
ㅤ
Levi was adorable when flustered, you couldn't help but let out a giggle, “Okayyy then, I’ll just go fetch the bread in the carriage-“
ㅤ
ㅤ
Your slipping on the dirt was unexpected, like a thunderstorm on a sunny day, and just as harsh. As you fell, your hands clamored for non-existent handles.
ㅤ
There was a small but sharp pinch of pain that shot up your knee from the impact, like a needle jammed through your skin. It surely stung. Nonetheless, the sensation wasn’t anything you couldn’t handle.
ㅤ
Only, it was a different story for the man who witnessed you stumble down. His face scrunched up into a grimace, his look was as if half of your body had been bitten off by a titan. It truly was ironic how the soldier—who should be used to seeing blood—reacted so much to you getting a slight cut on the leg.
ㅤ
Levi immediately carried and sat you down on the bales of hay stacked by the corner of the horse stable. He momentarily ran off to inside the headquarters, only to come back carrying a medical kit in his hands.
ㅤ
You were patiently seated as the soldier fell on his left knee to tend to your wound. “Unbelievable. You’re lucky it was only a scratch on the leg. What if you hit your head? Or you landed on your back and broke your spine?”
ㅤ
“But it was just an accide-“
ㅤ
He kept scolding you, like that of a mother scolding her child. “It’s because of accidents that we need to be more cautious. You can’t be reckless, okay? You just can’t.”
ㅤ
And perfectly when the pain of your minor injury was at its worst, it instantly dissipated, like fog after sunrise. Maybe because even if only for a sliver of time, Levi’s usually intimidating aura vanished; it was replaced with an assuaging one.
ㅤ
Over the past few weeks, now did you only take the chance to closely study his face. The man’s lips looked soft and pillowy. His nose was pointy with a straight bridge and narrow nostrils. In a renewed silence, ironically, his dark eyes glowed.
ㅤ
All of a sudden, you released the breath you didn’t even know you were holding. An unfamiliar wave of nervousness came over you. Every muscle in your face was tense, wordlessly communicating your shyness.
ㅤ
Did you just develop a crush on Humanity's Strongest?
ㅤ
You knew Levi quickly picked up on the situation. A thin, smug grin flickered on his face, not even trying to hide his stark amusement.
ㅤ
Oh how the tables have turned.
ㅤ
ㅤ
Wanting to ease the building tension, but not knowing what to say, you sheepishly uttered, “Y-your hair looks really soft, can I touch it…?”
ㅤ
“What?”
ㅤ
You jerked your head in a different direction, shying away, “Nothing.”
ㅤ
“No, no. You were saying something.” The soldier lifted his shoulders in a half shrug.
ㅤ
“M-me? No I didn’t. You’re hearing things, Levi.”
ㅤ
ㅤ
A few heartbeats passed. It was awkward. You strained to hear something, anything, but you were only met with silence.
ㅤ
Then, Levi took in a sharp breath,
ㅤ
“You can touch it… only if you agree to have tea with me in my office.”
ㅤ

The gold bell chimed quite loudly, informing the baristas that someone had entered their shop. The aroma of fresh ground coffee beans immediately filled your senses once you pushed open the sage green door as the smell feeling of nostalgia and comforted you.
Everything looked the same in the coffee shop. The oak wood floor never changed with coffee stains in certain areas that didn’t quite seem to come off all the way, no matter how hard the employees scrubbed—but it gave the shop character, in your opinion. Different colored potted plants filled the shop in every corner and on the clean white windowsill, making the place look lively. Crisp oxygen mixed with Columbian coffee beans flowed around the shop, making customers want to come back to a comfortable environment. Black and white bistro tables sat within the café, with silver metal bases, holding the circular table tops up as they alternated with colors along the built-in brown bench against the light-gray colored wall; with matching black and white metal chairs that practically screeched against the oak wood floors when someone was trying to scoot in or out of the table.
The entire shop was the exact same from what you remembered it to be six months ago. The only difference was that when you sat on the wooden bench, specifically at the black table in the corner that was right next to the window, the person who was supposed to be in front of you wouldn’t be there; and for that, your heart dropped a little.
Trying not to think too much about your change of mood, you ordered your usual—an iced mocha latte with a pump of sweet vanilla syrup—before you paid and turned around to see which tables were available. The usual corner table was staring right at you, practically mocking you, and you wished that the table was occupied, but then you would’ve felt wrong sitting at a different table when yours was clearly open.
You took your seat on the bench, and almost immediately, you started shaking your leg underneath the table. Your seat felt hot, as if the wood was catching fire underneath you, burning your legs and making you antsy.
Luckily, the shop wasn’t crowded so it took the baristas less than six minutes to make your drink and to call out your name from behind the counter. Quickly, standing up from the burning hot seat, you made your way to the counter, thanking Mel for the drink. Since coming here, you had become quite a constant in the cute Portland coffee shop. Mel was one of the employees that had worked at the shop the longest, so she made everyone’s drinks because she knew the menu the best. So, you caught up with her a bit, and inevitably, she asked where you had been.
“You didn’t find a better coffee shop did you?” She teased, making you chuckle.
“No, I’ve just been, uh, too busy to come around. But I promise, your drinks and shop are still the best,” you said truthfully, to which she beamed. To this day, you hadn’t found a superior coffee shop than ‘Coava’ because the others just didn’t compare—they didn’t make you feel the same way you did with this one. “But thanks for the coffee.” You gave her one last smile before you turned around to make your way back to your table.
And then the bell chimed.
It was as if the sun was peeking out through the clouds; the sun beams strongly pointed down onto the wet pavement after a night of rain, leaving the air with its pleasant smell of petrichor. He was the light that seeped through the curtains, and you knew it was going to be a lovely day.
“Harry…” you stopped in your tracks, careful not to spill the contents of your coffee cup. Your heart skipped several beats once he flashed you his gorgeous smile that you were still hopelessly in love with.
“Hi, Y/N.” Harry mindlessly played with the buttons of his coat as he mentally tried to situate the nerves in his head and stomach. His breath felt like it was stuck in his throat, making his voice slightly trail off with a crack to the tone.
It felt like the two of you were the only ones in the coffee shop—minus the locals who were sitting at the tables, minding their own business, or wondering what the fuck they were doing standing in the middle of the shop—completely and fully captured by the other’s stare and presence.
The loud screeching noise of steam took you out of your dazy trance as you cleared your throat. Harry looked down at his feet before looking up at you through his lashes, shyly intertwining his hands behind his back.
“Uh, would you like to join me?”
Harry raised his brows at your proposal, pursing his lips to contain his giddy excitement. “S-Sure.” You took a deep breath before you started to walk towards the table in the corner—one he was also very familiar with. “This seat...Is this seat taken?” He asked politely but, almost instantly, mentally cursed himself because you wouldn’t have invited him if you were with someone.
You didn’t catch his slip up, instead, you smiled as your face grew warm. “By you, I hope.” Harry blushed, taking a seat on the black metal chair across from you.
“So, how’ve you been? It’s been a while since I last saw you,” you mentioned.
It’d been six months since the last time you saw and sat in front of Harry—a very long six months. The conversation six months ago wasn’t the most happiest of memories because that conversation brought in the heartache and heartbreak; the chat had included the mutual separation of your relationship that involved tears, chest pain, and as always, the smell of Colombian coffee that surrounded your afflictive conversation, hoping it would calm the tension between you two.
“Yeah, it has been a while, but I’m doing okay. How are you?”
“I’m good.” There was a bit of awkwardness swirling in the air, and you absolutely despised it—you wanted it to leave the shop and never return. You had always imagined what it would be like bumping into Harry again, more importantly, what you would say to him. And despite all those moments daydreaming of finding the right words, you were completely stuck, and you fully blamed it on the awkward tension. “Can we not be…y’know, awkward? That’s not us,” you simply said.
Harry let out a sigh of relief, adding a breathy laugh. “Yes, yes, of course. You’re right, that isn’t us at all.” Mel brought him an iced black coffee since it was his usual, and she saw that he didn’t get the chance to order because he was immediately occupied by the sight of you. He softly thanked her with a smile, only taking his attention off of you for a split second before his eyes were right back on you; he didn’t know what this conversation would lead to, nor did he want to get his hopes up, so that meant spending every moment with his complete attention and eyes averted to you. “I miss you…” he said.
There was a sense of relief as you exhaled deeply, glad that he wasn’t the only one who was missing the other. His words had brought a flutter of butterflies to your stomach, soaring as they pleased while your face felt warm.
You and Harry had been together for a year and a half before calling it quits. For most of the relationship, it was happiness and bliss—occasional fights, but they weren’t frequent—towards the last few months however, things were getting a bit stressful. You remembered the days like it was yesterday as the vivid memory crept inside of your head...
It was nearing nine in the evening and the house was quiet. The silence was louder than the ongoing noise inside your head that was constantly yelling at you, making your head ache from the incessant thoughts. It was safe to say that you weren’t happy, and that even Harry wasn’t happy either. But you had only gotten a glimpse of him during the evening, so you were simply assuming that he wasn’t content—but it was a very logical assumption since every time he looked at you, it seemed like he was becoming more stressed out by the minute; as if he didn’t already have a lot on his plate during the day, and by night, he would still have to deal with whatever argument and fight either of you would pick for no apparent reason.
It started with petty little arguments, getting annoyed and frustrated at the other because of burnt toast or something as small as running out of detergent for the laundry. But fighting over nothing had turned into completely confessing that you weren’t happy anymore, and that the exhaustion had gotten to you.
“I-I don’t know if I can do this anymore, Harry,” you said in between your sobs that you tried to contain. “All we’re doing is hurting each otherwe’re not even happy together anymore!”
It felt like his heart was exploding, but it was the truth. “Darling…”
“You can’t lie and tell me that we’re happy together because it’s obvious that we’re not.” You wiped the tears from your face, leaving your skin damp from the moisture.
Harry sighed deeply, knowing he couldn’t argue anymore. He felt defeated and upset with himself; it was like he was doing well in everything else or at least trying, and he couldn’t even do his part in being a good boyfriend to you. He knew part of the reason why both of you weren’t happy was because of the neglectance, and both of you were too exhausted to even communicate that feeling. You two were both independent entrepreneurs—always knowing when to close business and how to make a well deserved investment or sale with others who were trying to buy whatever stock or product. But when it came down to each other, to Y/N and Harry, it seemed like the individuals that were trying to please and charm others had dissipated, leaving no room or patience for each other.
“We’re both busy, Harry, I get that. And maybe it’s best if we call it quits until everything settles down—until we both know what we want—”
“I want you,” he interrupted.
You softly huffed, looking down at your lap as you slightly nodded before you looked up at him again. He had tears streaming down his face and more forming in his eyes; you loved that he wasn’t embarrassed or afraid to show his true emotions—he was being vulnerable every time he let his guard down, and for that, you would appreciate him forever.
Muffled, static cracks followed by quiet little groans were heard from the baby monitor on the coffee table. Harry glanced at it before looking back at you, knowing he had to take care of his number one priority, and who were you to stop him? So, you nodded, tilting your head towards the room, and he sadly smiled before heading towards the nursery.
You walked over to the kitchen counter, grabbed a pen and paper, and wrote ‘Meet me at Coava tomorrow. Usual time.’ before you placed it on the coffee table beside the monitor. As you were leaving, you heard soft humming coming from the baby monitor, and your heart squeezed, frowning as this was most likely going to be the last time you were going to be in this house. Taking one look around, you took in all of the memories that you made in the building that made you feel safe and warm before you stepped out, immediately welcomed by the cool temperatures of the evening.
The next afternoon when you walked into Coava, Harry was already sitting at the usual table you two sat at. His head was down, mindlessly wiping down the condensation that formed outside of his glass. You took a seat in front of him without saying a word, making him look up. He had dark circles around eyes as he hadn’t gotten much sleep.
“Hi,” you whispered. There was your usual cup of iced coffee placed in front of you. “Thank you for the coffee.”
He nodded and smiled softly, despite his current mood. “Hello.”
You took a deep breath. “So…where do we go from here?”
Harry sadly looked at you with desperation in his eyes that spoke, no, begged you to tell him to stay, to tell him that you two could and would work this out. But it seemed like you hadn’t received that specific message from his green and sorrowful eyes.
“You were right…We haven’t been able to make time for one another. So, we’ll just…take some time apart.” His heart and voice cracked at the end of his sentence, finding it hard to even form a sentence that didn’t absolutely break him. You nodded, agreeing, but it didn’t hurt any less; you knew this would be best for the two of you because both of you had to focus on yourselves, especially when Harry had his priorities, such as his family, which you weren’t going to make him change whatsoever. “Okay…so, we’re over.” He hadn’t said it as a question but rather a way to see that realization.
You reached across the table, placing your hand on his, and you were lucky that he didn’t pull away. “Harry, this doesn’t mean that I don’t love you. I…will always love you.”
“And I’ll always love you too,” he said honestly.
Behind the civil and mature conversation that occurred, there was sadness and heartbreak. There were no more smiles or laughs, no more love and affection, or anymore meet-ups during lunch or coffee dates during breaks. The painful look on Harry’s face had only pained you even more, but you both knew this split-up and time apart was for the best.
That was six months ago.
Now, as you sat across Harry, you felt an overwhelming rush of relief and joy; he just looked happier and you saw a familiar glint in his eyes as he looked at you. It may not be the same sparkle of love as it once was, which you were afraid it wasn’t, but there was still some kind of sparkle—the kind someone would give when they reunite with an old friend.
“The kids miss you—they miss you a lot.”
Your eyes look at him fondly at the mention of his children. “Really?”
“Yeah, they do. They said, and I quote, they miss their ‘pretty fairy second mom,’” Harry said quite proudly.
Harry had three kids that you absolutely adored. There was Mira and Estelle, seven-year-old twins that looked like their father. Mira was very energetic and talkative—that little girl could talk for hours on end without missing a beat; Estelle was more quiet and reserved, but once you started hanging around, she opened up and was quite fun to have a laugh with. Then there was the sweet little two-year-old boy, Rory, who resembled his mother. He was always babbling and giggling, so happy and free.
If Harry was being honest, Rory was a complete accident. Him and his ex had separated and broken up when the twins were four, but they were still seeing each other. Those occasional hangouts led to another child, which they both thought would help them bond, but six months into the pregnancy, they both knew it wasn’t right anymore—not like before. So, they stuck to coparenting and, if they were speaking the truth, it was much better than being together.
When Rory was six months old, that was when Harry met you. On an unexpected literal run in the park when you and Harry were on your daily runs, the trail was only narrow and small enough for one person to run. So, when you and Harry were running towards each other, you braced yourself for the awkwardness you were about to face with the man. Harry politely smiled, moving to his left, only for you to move to your right, which made you both giggle. The two of you then moved to the opposite side, only to clash again. The thought was quite hilarious to the two of you, so you both started laughing, clutching your stomachs. Once you two calmed down, Harry then said that he was going to his left, so you moved to your left, running the opposite directions from each other.
At the end of the trail and on your way to the parking lot, you saw Harry finish the same trail but exit from the other side. And if it said anything more, you parked right next to his car as well. Harry smiled, dimples flashing and asked you how your run was, which then led to a bit of small talk. In the six minutes you two were talking, Harry made the impulsive decision to ask you if you would like some coffee. He wouldn’t have asked if it were anyone else, and until that moment he didn’t even know if he was ready to date again. But he took the chance and decided to ask you, and luckily, you said yes.
The rest was history.
“I miss them so much too.” You smiled softly, thinking about the kids that you had thought of as your own.
“I, uh, I know it’s too much to ask, but I figured I should ask either way…Would you like to see them? Mira would never live it down if I told them that I saw you and didn’t ask if you wanted to see them.” He added a chuckle at the end, nerves creeping up his skin.
Your eyes lit up. “Really? You’d let me see them?”
Harry raised his brows. “Yeah, of course! You could see them anytime you want, if you’d like. Just because we’re not, y’know, together doesn’t mean that you can’t see them. I know how much you love them and how much they love you too,” he reassured.
“Would Laurie be okay with that?” You asked about his ex and the mother of said children.
He nodded. “Yeah, she would. I mean, she also knows how much they love you.” Harry was lucky that the mother of his children and his ex was so kind and chill with having someone that Harry loved be ‘another mother’ to her children; all Laurie really asked of you was to not try and replace her role as their mom and to always keep them safe when she wasn’t around, and who were you to disrespect her wishes?
“Harry, I would love to, thank you. I really do miss them.” You felt yourself getting a bit emotional because of how much you missed the kids, and it’d felt like an eternity since you last saw them.
“Great! Tomorrow is the weekend, so are you free to go to the park and maybe get some ice cream after?”
“Yeah, that sounds like a plan.” You smiled, not too widely as you tried to contain your excitement.
Harry smiled back at you before quickly looking at his phone to check the time. “I gotta get back. But I’ll see you tomorrow and will text you the details tonight.”
“Okay, see you soon.” You stood up to hug him, and his arm immediately wrapped around your waist, hugging you to his chest. His stomach was doing flips as he felt your breath against the crook of his neck. He didn’t want the moment to end, and it was the most physical contact that you two had in six months.
Pulling away, he offered you a smile before bidding you goodbye, and you finally let out the breath you had been holding the moment the bell chimed and the man you still loved walked in.
A soft blush was planted on Harry’s cheeks for the entire day. He was driving from work to Laurie’s house to pick up his beloved children as he thought about how his day turned out to be.
In all honesty, he hadn’t expected to see you in the coffee shop that you two had gone to throughout the entirety of your relationship. He had just gotten out of a meeting and was debating on going to Coava because he hadn’t been there since the day you two called it quits, but he figured it was time and thought that maybe reminiscing on the memories you two had with each other wasn’t a bad thing. So, he walked into that shop thinking he was just going to get a coffee to-go, but he had gone in there and left with something so much better.
The moment his eyes landed on yours his mind had screamed and reassured him that he wasn’t just dreaming that you were standing right in front of him, he felt his stomach drop in the best way. The heat had rushed to his cheeks, tugging on the corners of his lips, urging his mouth to smile, and he did not hold back his joy when he saw you. You were beautiful, just like he remembered, but he had no doubt that there wasn’t a day that went by where you weren’t not absolutely stunning.
And the giddy feeling he felt when he asked you if you’d like to see the kids made his heart tumble inside of his chest as he couldn’t wait for you and the kids to finally see each other again.
Harry pulled into Laurie’s driveway, and he quickly got out and knocked on the door, waiting for Laurie to answer. He chuckled as he could practically hear the twins screaming from across the house to make sure they had everything they needed. When the door opened, he was met by his ex that he once loved, and still had some platonic love for her, naturally, as the mother of his children.
“Hey, Harry! They’re just getting their stuff ready,” she greeted with a smile, opening the door wider as she walked away from the entrance and let him in. She grabbed Rory from the couch, who was mindlessly playing with a giant puzzle piece, and gave him many kisses to his cheeks before saying goodbye to her son and handing him off to Harry.
Rory’s eyes lightened up at the sight of his father. “Dada!”
“Hi, my sweet boy. I’ve missed you.” He placed soft kisses to his chubby and squeezable cheeks.
“Girls, dad’s waiting!” Laurie called out from the bottom of the stairway before turning back towards Harry. “Why do you look like that?” She gave him a knowing look.
“Like what?” Harry asked, acting like he didn’t know what she was talking about. The blush really gave him away, he thought.
“You’re just…extra happy today.”
“Can’t I be happy, Laurie? To see my kids?” He teased, smirking as he hugged Rory to his chest.
“I mean, sure, but…did something happen today?”
His smile widened, and it was like he couldn’t contain the exciting feeling anymore and he just had to tell someone. “I saw Y/N today.”
Her brows raised. “Really? How is she?”
“She’s doing well, yeah. We talked for a little bit.” Was all that he told her.
“And I’m assuming it went well.” He nodded, not wanting to tell her more. “Well, that’s great, Harry. She was, is, a lovely woman and she took care of the kids, so that’s all that matters to me,” Laurie said genuinely; she wasn’t jealous, if she was being honest. All that mattered to her was that her kids were in good hands.
Suddenly more footsteps were coming down the stairs. “Dad!” The twins yelled at the same time. He put Rory down for a moment before he bent down to hug his two girls.
“Hi, my loves. How are you?” He kissed both of their cheeks, making their small arms hug him tighter.
“Dad, I scored one hundred percent on all my spelling tests, so I’m qualified for the spelling bee!” Mira explained excitedly once she let go of Harry.
“Really?! That’s amazing, bug. This week, I’ll help you study for it.” Mira beamed at that before walking over to her mom to say bye.
“How are you, my sunshine?” He directly asked Estelle, knowing that she was specifically waiting for Harry to have his attention on only her. Even though she’d never told him that, he could tell that sometimes Estelle lets Mira have her moment and wanted to speak with Harry when no one else was paying attention.
“I’m good. My teacher told me I could become a math…mathmat—daddy, what are they called?” She looked at Harry for help.
“Look at you, sunshine! I’m so proud of you my little mathematician.” Estelle’s eyes widened. “Is that you meant mathematician, sweetheart?” He smiled.
“Yes, that! I did good on my math test and even baked cookies for you!” Before Harry could say anything, Estelle ran off to the kitchen to grab the plate of cookies she baked last night.
“Alright, babies, let’s go. Say bye to mommy.” The kids said their goodbyes before Harry safely buckled them into their car seats and drove home for a week at their father’s.
When all four of them reached the front door, Harry told the twins to put their belongings away and wash up for dinner. He set Rory down in his high chair before cutting up some bananas in halves, and placing them on the plastic table in front of him for his pre-dinner snack. Knowing that his kids liked home cooked meals better than takeout, fortunately, he set out the ingredients to make some fried rice, which was quick and easy.
The twins rushed down the stairs once Harry put the leftover rice into the pan filled with sautéed veggies, and they settled onto the couch in front of the TV, waiting for dinner.
“Loves, set the table for me, please!” He called out from the kitchen as he transferred the rice from the pan to a large bowl, topping it with green onions. The girls each had a task for setting the table; Mira was in charge of forks and spoons, and Estelle handled the plates since she was less clums. He rolled Rory’s high chair over to the table, which he was so lucky to have gotten a high chair with wheels because it was so much easier to move him without carrying him and the chair; and he gave everyone an equal scoop, depending on how much they ate, and if they wanted seconds, he would be glad to serve them more.
As they ate, Harry was occasionally helping Rory eat the rice, just picking up the contents that didn’t make it into his mouth, as Estelle and Mira both took turns talking. Harry loved family dinner, he tried his very best to give all three of his children the attention that they deserved, but dinner was the one time they bonded the most because no one felt competitive or had the urge to start an argument when there was food in front of them.
“Daddy, how was your day?” Estelle asked curiously, and Harry smiled at his sunshine, as if she was the sun itself, heart swooning.
“It was great, thanks for asking, my love.” He placed his spoon on his plate. “I actually wanted to talk to you all about something.” The twins didn’t respond, just stared at him, encouraging him to continue. “Do you remember Y/N?” Just at the sound of your name, the crowd went absolutely wild.
“Y/N, yes!” Screamed Estelle, which was rare for her to raise her voice.
“Pretty, fairy second mom, of course we remember her, dad!” Mira exclaimed obviously.
“Fairy!” Rory had repeated the only word he could make out from Mira’s mouth as he fussed because of the volume that had increased from his sisters.
Harry laughed. “Alright, okay, settle down. Well, I saw her today.” The twins gasped, making him chuckle. It genuinely felt like he was on a talk show with a live audience. “And I wanted to ask you all if you wanted to see her tomorrow? Figured we could go to the park and get some ice cream together?” He asked hesitantly, even though he knew they’d say yes, and he’d get another chance to see you again.
“Yes!” The girls both answered.
Harry beamed, turning to Rory. “Bubba, remember Y/N? Your slide friend? Remember you used to go on the slide with Y/N?” Rory giggled, a sound that was Harry’s weakness, and nodded. “Do you wanna see her tomorrow?”
“Slide with fairy?” Rory asked, and Harry laughed.
“Yes, slide with fairy,” he confirmed, and Rory nodded his head eagerly.
Harry smiled, glad his kids were with the plans tomorrow. The rest of the dinner was filled with the twins talking about you; they talked about what you all could do together at the park and what they wanted to show you, and Harry would be lucky if they slept through the entire night without continuously waking up because of their excitement for the upcoming afternoon.
Once everything was cleaned up and put away, the twins washed and cleaned, Harry give Rory a bath, and everyone was ready for bed, Harry said good night to his babies, spending about five minutes cuddling and talking them to sleep until they fluttered their eyes closed and off to slumber.
Sighing, Harry closed his door, leaving the baby monitor from Rory’s room on his bedside table before he was able to unwind for the day. He always spent an extra amount of time on his skin care routine, figuring that he sometimes didn’t have time for himself and the only time he had was during nights.
When he was ready for bed, he felt a huge amount of relief to be getting into bed after a long but grateful day, and he picked up his phone and clicked on your message thread. The last time you two texted was a few weeks after the breakup, asking if you were doing okay, and he could practically feel the awkward tension through the texts as he reread them. But he was glad that this time would be a much lighter and better conversation.
Hi, Y/N. Hope this is the right number still. But if it is, kids are on board for tomorrow. Does 12:30 work for you? We could meet at the usual park. If it’s not Y/N, please don’t meet at the usual park because the kids are not on board.
You chuckled at the end of his text, happy to see that Harry is always trying to make jokes and be the comedian.
Hi, Harry! Don’t worry, this is Y/N. Probably would have hunted the person with my number down to get tomorrow’s plans. But that sounds perfect! I can't wait to see the kids tomorrow. See you then!
Harry softly smiled at his phone, not feeling the need to respond and figured he would talk to you a lot more tomorrow while the kids are playing. He stared at the message for quite some time, completely blank as he couldn’t believe the chances that he happened to see you at the shop six months after the breakup, and now he’s making plans with you tomorrow; his jaw was aching from smiling so much.
A few minutes later, he put his phone away to change before he comfortably situated himself under the blanket, feeling the heaviness of his eyes. But once he felt himself starting to drift away into dreamland, his phone buzzed on his nightstand, and he tried his best to ignore it, but curiosity got the best of him, so he picked up his phone and opened the new message.
And I can’t wait to see you tomorrow too.
And just like that, Harry was wide awake, struggling to sleep, but a smile permanently etched on his face for the night.
The day that everyone in the Styles’ household had been waiting for had finally arrived. Luckily, the kids had gotten their needed hours of sleep; Harry had only gotten a few hours of sleep, but when the sun seeped through his curtains, he didn’t dread getting up for the day. Instead, he felt a rush of eagerness, instantly remembering what the day held for him and his kids, and he jumped right out of bed.
Once the four of them were out of the house, Harry had successfully fed, cleaned, and changed his children with no complaints. The house and car ride was filled with conversations about how excited they were to see you again, asking how many more hours there was until they got to see you and if they were almost at the park.
Screams bounced off the roof of the car once Harry parked on the side of the curb; the twins had already taken their seatbelts off, getting antsy as they waited for their dad to open the car from the outside. Harry unbuckled Rory, carrying him until he rounded on the other side of the car to open the door for the twins. They quickly jumped out, clearly excited, but Harry did not forget to remind them that this was still a public area and anything could happen.
“Girls, slow down, please.” Estelle was holding Harry’s hand as Mira was holding her sister’s; Harry was still carrying Rory in his arms because his sister’s were practically lugging Harry with all their might, trying to get to their usual spot, so he didn’t want Rory to get hurt. “Loves, you know Y/N would tell you the exact same thing. Please, just slow down for me.” He pulled the Y/N card on them, knowing that they were better listeners with you than they are with him.
Once they were all close enough, they spotted a thick beige blanket under the tree with a picnic basket, and you sitting on top of it, setting everything up.
“Y/N!” The girls both screamed, Estelle letting go of Harry’s hand as they both ran towards you.
You looked up at the sound of your name, eyes brightening at the little girls running. “My Princesses! Hi, my loves!” You opened your arms widely, inviting the twins into your arms— they practically collided into your arms, making you fall onto your back since you didn’t get the chance to stand up—and embracing them with a big hug. Laughs came out of all of your mouths as wide smiles permanently stayed on your faces. “Oh, I missed you two so much!” You kissed both of their cheeks, making them giggle. You stood up, helping the girls up and brushed their clothes off with your hand from the grass. Harry and Rory were in sight, and Harry put the little boy down, making Rory run towards you. “My sweetheart, oh, you’ve gotten so big.” You hugged Rory to your chest, placing your hand behind his head as your other arm wrapped around his small body.
You were glad that Rory still had some memory of you, and didn’t shy away behind his father’s leg. You placed soft kisses on his cheeks, taking in his baby scent that you always loved.
After Rory was starting to fuss in your arms, most likely due to feeling overwhelmed from the lack of space, you let go of him before standing up.
“Hi, Y/N,” Harry greeted, offering a hug, which you gladly took.
You rubbed his back. “Hi, Harry. I’m so glad I’m here with you all.” You pulled away, smiling at him. Harry’s heart pounded against his chest at the sight of you smiling up at him. His heart did a backflip at the sight of your gorgeous smile, trickling all the way down to his stomach where it triggered the butterflies to release from the net.
“Please, we were all really excited to see you. So, thank you for agreeing.” His hand innocently ran down your arm, sending shivers down your spine.
You turned around to look at the kids who were making themselves comfortable on the blanket. You and Harry joined them as you sat in between Estelle and Rory, and Harry sat in between Mira and Rory.
“Okay, so I made some sandwiches. You all still like grilled cheese, right?” You hoped, and the twins nodded; you turned towards Rory. “What about you, sweet pea? Grilled cheese?” At the sound of cheese, Rory nodded his head and clapped his hands, making you smile.
Harry was so lost in his mind and heart that he was simply so distracted in helping you out as you unwrapped the sandwiches from the foil, putting them on a paper plate. He was just so fond of watching you interact with his children so naturally, like there was no time that was wasted when you and Harry were apart. And he was especially happy that the kids still loved you just as much as they did when you two were together; and how they still kept talking about you despite the breakup.
Aside from you and Harry, the kids had taken the breakup the hardest. From the knowledge they had based on what Harry and Laurie told them, they understood that their mommy and daddy couldn’t be together anymore due to adult reasons; it took them a while to adjust to that, but they eventually managed and figured it was better and more fun. But when Harry had to break the news on why they wouldn’t be seeing their ‘Pretty Fairy Second Mom’ anymore, they took it harder than expected. They simply looked at it as you didn’t want to see them anymore, which wasn’t the case at all, Harry explained.
“Sometimes adults need to take some time apart, loves. That does not mean that Y/N doesn’t love you anymore because she does very much, I can tell you that. But it's good to have some time to yourself, especially in a relationship.”
“But daddy, I thought you were gonna be together forever with Y/N,” Estelle spoke up, tears in her eyes. He was lucky that his kids loved you so much, and he never doubted that they weren’t going to. But his fear had come true when you two called it quits and he had to tell them the truth.
“And maybe we will, but as for right now, it’s best to be apart. Sometimes being apart saves the relationship rather than letting it burn,” he told them honestly, which was the best as he could explain it.
“D-Does Y/N still love you?” Mira asked softly. It wasn’t like Mira to be so soft spoken, which meant that the breakup had affected her deeply.
Harry sighed, grabbing both of their small hands. “She does,” he replied for the sake of more tears coming out of their eyes—plus, he was taking your word for it back at the cafe. “And she also loves you all so much too,” he reminded them again. What he really wanted to say was that maybe one day you two will get back together, but he really didn’t want to get their hopes up.
Looking back on his conversation from half a year ago, he was glad that he told them the truth on why you two broke up. He didn’t want to confuse his children even further, making them completely oblivious to the situation—he just wanted to be honest with them because he hoped you two would meet again and get back together at some point.
“Harry, would you like one?” You asked, bringing Harry back out of his thoughts. He smiled, nodding, not trusting his voice to speak; and you gladly handed him a plate with a sandwich, pouring some chips onto the side—his favorite chips, you still remembered.
“Thank you.” He smiled softly. The corners of your lips turned up as you bashfully looked at the picnic basket in front of you. You placed Rory’s plate in front of him as he seemed to have crawled to sit closer to you, and you cut out his sandwich into small pieces, along with cutting his grapes in half. “Oh, you don’t have to do that.” He stopped you from what you were doing, ready to take Rory from your side as he didn’t want you to feel obligated to take care of him.
“Oh, if you don’t want me to, that’s fine. But I wouldn’t mind feeding him a bit.”
“If you want to.”
You gave him the sweetest grin, and Harry was lucky to be sitting down because his knees would give out on him if he were standing. “I want to.” He only nodded, a crimson color laid on his cheeks.
Harry comfortably watched as you made conversation with the twins as you fed Rory. You always gave them your undivided attention; your expression always lit up everytime they talked about something they were passionate about or interested in, and it just made Harry fall even more with how you were always so supportive in what his kids loved. You were always uplifting them, never dragging their hopes and dreams down.
After everyone was finished with their meals and had time to digest their food, the twins asked if they could go on the swings and Harry said yes. The tree that they were under was only a few feet away, so Harry had a clear view of his girls.
“You’re, like, a magician.” Harry suddenly said, breaking the silence once the girls were safely on the swing.
You chuckled. “How’s that?”
“It’s like hiring a magician at a party—everyone is so excited to see what they do and see them in general—you’re like that; the girls and Rory were so excited to see you.”
You playfully gasped, holding Rory to your chest. “You were excited to see me? Well, I was excited to see you!” You booped his nose, making Rory giggle.
“Fairy!” He exclaimed, and you and Harry laughed. Rory was a quiet two-year-old, but he picked up on keywords that he repeatedly said.
“So, are you seeing anyone?” You cut to the chase, skipping the small talk.
Harry chuckled, running a hand through his hair. “Nope. Not entirely sure if anyone wants to date a thirty-four-year-old with three kids.”
You raised your brows in shock, and he knew that look you’re giving him very well—prepared to tease him; even though you weren’t that much younger than him either. “What? Do you think no one wants to date a hot dad? Harry, you’re peak-dilf, everyone wants to date you.”
“And what about you? Do you wanna date me? A dilf?” He teased; a smirk that you knew all too well appeared on his face, making you want to kiss it off, which was what you used to do.
Pursing your lips and cheeks heating up, you gave him an obvious look before you said, “Think you know the answer to that one, baby.” In all honesty, the pet name had slipped, and for a brief moment your eyes widened at the realization, but you brushed it off and continued with your confident and teasing attitude; and it worked quite well on Harry because he definitely heard what you used to call him loud and clear. It made his heart flutter as he missed you calling him that; he never wanted to hear that name come out of anyone else’s mouth because only yours would do it justice.
Harry was left to ponder about your response before you changed the subject, talking to Rory. “Sweets, do you wanna go on the slide?” The little boy jumped up and down, pulling your arm as he had a big smile on his face. You looked at Harry, and he gave you a nod, telling you that he would stay put and watch your belongings.
You and Rory walked hand in hand, or more like hand and finger, to the slide. It was an open purple slide with two sides, and it lasted about two seconds if you slid correctly and if the slide was slippery enough. You helped Rory step onto the playground as the dull metal steps were quite high for him to reach on his own before you guided him towards the slide.
Sitting down at the top and on the edge of the slide, you carried Rory into your lap, hyping him up for what he had been waiting for. “Ready, sweets? Are you ready?” Your tone was pure excitement as you squeezed and tickled his belly.
“Go, Y/N, go!” Directed Rory, and you scooted forward and held onto the sweet boy in your arms tightly as you two slid down the slide. Mouthfuls of squealing screams and giggles came from Rory’s mouth as he clapped his hands towards the end of the slide, causing you to cheer as well.
And the proper dad that he was, Harry clicked the red button on the screen to stop recording you and Rory from the slide. He zoomed in, capturing the bright smiles placed on his sweet boy’s and the love of his life’s face, screenshotting the perfect frame. He didn’t think the day could have gone any better than this; it was quite the perfect day, he thought.
When it was rounding two in the afternoon, Rory’s eyes were starting to droop, exhaustion taking over him from running around for almost an hour that his little body couldn’t keep up, so a nap was in his favor. He lazily looked up at you, reaching his arms up for you to carry him, which you happily held him. He settled his head on your shoulder, and it only took a few kisses and back rubs for him to be out like a light while the sun still shined in his face.
You walked over to the blanket, figuring it was time to call it a day at the park; Harry and the twins were running around nearby on the bedded grass area playing tag. They retreated to the blanket once they saw you with Rory in your arms, breaths heavy from their run.
“Oh, my sweet, sweet boy.” Harry sighed when he got to spot under the tree; you handed Rory to him, admiring the two boys cuddling as Harry pressed quiet and soft kisses to his son’s head. Since your lap was available, Estelle and Mira took the chance to finally be able to properly cuddle you since Rory was taking most of your attention. The girls took one leg each, and you wrapped your arms around their waist, kissing their shoulder.
The five of you stayed put for a while, calming down under the breezy weather that had started to pick up until it got even colder was when Harry decided it was time to leave. Luckily the girls were still awake to help with cleaning up, and were rather helpful because Harry was trying his best with Rory situated on one side of his body.
Once all of you were next to your cars, Harry placed Rory in his car seat as you were hugging the girls goodbye. You and Harry agreed that everyone was too tired to go out for some ice cream since all the twins wanted to do was lie down. Harry knew he didn’t want the day to end, even though it was still quite early, but the older he got, the tougher it was to keep up with his little children who just loved running around; a relaxing and peaceful night was calling him.
“Hey.” Harry closed the passenger door before he rounded the car to meet you on the grass. “I know we talked about going for ice cream today, but it seemed like we’re all too tired, but I was wondering…” he paused for a moment, a bit of hesitancy in his voice. “Would you like to come over? Maybe…for dinner, or to have a glass or w-water?” He scratched the back of his neck, nerves getting the best of him.
You smiled, thinking he was the absolute cutest when he was flustered. “Harry, I’d love to. Feels like I haven’t drank any water so I’m parched,” you teased.
He breathed out a laugh. “Okay, uh, I’ll see you home.” He gave you another smile before walking away and inside of his car, completely unaware of his choice of words.
Home. More specifically, Harry’s home. It was a place that made you feel safe, and if you’re being honest, it’s been too long since you’d had complete solace.
Your mental pep-talk throughout the drive toward Harry’s had helped in some way. Keeping it simple without driving your mind into overthinking every single thought, you laid it all down as if you were planning and preparing a business proposal.
You didn’t want to dive deep into what Harry’s invitation could entail—more like you didn’t want to get your hopes up on if you two were to get back together because the potential rejection you could face would absolutely crush you. Harry’s a kind and sweet guy, he’s simply inviting a friend over for a drink and dinner, if you could even call yourself that. Plus, it was still early to fully call it a day, and he planned for ice cream after the park, so he was fulfilling that promise of sweet dessert.
Without realizing, you’d been sitting in your car for a solid five minutes, staring over your steering wheel as you were parked on the curb in front of Harry’s house. Harry’s car was already in the driveway, so they were just waiting on you.
You walked towards the front door, and it swung open before you even got the chance to knock.
“Hey, thought you’d change your mind when you weren’t getting out of the car,” Harry joked, although that thought really crossed his mind when he peeked out through the window and saw you still in your car.
You chuckled nervously. “Oh, no. I wouldn’t.” You stepped inside his house, and a wave of nostalgia rushed through you as if you were at the beach and the harsh current knocked you over as you were trying to walk against the sandy wind.
Everything still looked the same—the same since the night you left without another word to the kids, just a note to Harry telling you to meet at the shop. A pinch of guilt appeared in your face as you frowned, and Harry immediately took notice, but you waved it off as you slightly smiled, telling him that you two would talk later. He didn’t press any further, waiting until later or when you were ready. Instead, he asked if you wanted anything to drink, to which he already knew you’d go for a class of Cabernet, and luckily, he had some in stock—more like, he still had the untouched bottle for when you stayed over.
The two of you leaned against the cold granite counter as music softly played on the speaker that was connected through Bluetooth on his phone. Conversations were light, but it wasn’t awkward in any sense. As a matter of fact, it felt just like old times when you would stay over his house, talking about each other’s day and simply enjoying the presence of one another. That’s what you think this was, you thought—enjoying the fact that Harry was in front of you after so many months and you were cherishing it until the next set of months went by.
After a few conversations and sips of wine later, the time had gone by fairly fast, which always happened when you were with him, and it was nearing five. The kids had woken up from their nap at four and quietly settled in the living room—the twins on the couch in front of the television and Rory was on the padded mat playing with his toys, occasionally talking to his sisters. Harry asked if you would be okay watching them so he could make dinner, and you were close to reminding him that he didn’t need to ask to watch his kids, but then again, you had to remind yourself that things were a bit different now. So, you said that you didn’t mind and walked over to the sofa chair next to the couch and watched TV with the girls as well as play with Rory.
Twenty-five minutes had gone by and Harry called everyone, announcing that dinner was ready. You all walked into the dining room, taking your seats. Your assigned seat was next to Rory’s chair, which was in between you and Harry; the girls were sitting across from you. Once everyone took several bites of Harry’s dinner--a quick fettuccine alfredo--the chatter was back. You enthusiastically listened to the girls and Rory talk; it made Harry smile, loving how natural everything felt.
Estelle tapped Harry’s shoulder, making him turn towards her with a smile on his face. “What is it, sunshine?” She got off her chair, leaning over to whisper something into his ear and he smiled, turning back to his family who was curious as to what Estelle had said. “Go ahead and ask her, love.”
You put down your fork and placed your arms on the table. “What’s up, Princess?”
“Uh, c-can we go to that place?”
“What place is that?” You asked curiously.
“That place where you told Daddy you loved him,” she responded quite bashfully. Your mouth was slightly open, not expecting her to say what she did. Looking over at Harry, he simply had a soft smile on his face with his brows raised, shrugging his shoulders.
Did you want to go back there? The answer was a simple yes. There wasn’t any excuse that you could possibly make up on the spot as to why you couldn’t go there, and it wasn’t necessarily a bad place whenever you thought about it. In fact, you really missed going over there and you would be lying if you said that you didn’t think about that place often.
Your head turned towards Estelle. “Sure, why not. How about we go tomorrow?” You asked everyone, and they all had smiles on their faces. You looked at Harry, directly asking him for permission. “Is that okay?” His elbow was resting against the arm of the brown chair, fingers placed under his lips as he slightly puckered his soft and pink lips; without looking under the table, you knew his legs were crossed. Harry smiled, nodding his head, and everyone cheered.
The rest of the time everyone was sitting at the dinner table, you all talked about plans for tomorrow, and everyone was really excited. Once it was almost eight, Harry realized that it was almost their bedtime, so he hurried them up the stairs to get ready for bed before saying goodnight to you, getting in as many hugs and kisses as they could get.
Harry was upstairs, changing Rory and putting him to bed before he walked down and found you in the kitchen washing dishes. He slipped past you, placing his hand along your lower back briefly before he grabbed the dish rag. The action sent a chill down your spine and you immediately missed his hands on you.
“The kids seem really excited about tomorrow.” Harry broke the silence, glancing over at you as you continued to wash the dishes.
You nodded. “Yeah, I’m really excited too.”
Harry noticed the slight shortness, and he thought it may be because you were tired. “Hey, are you okay?”
You turned off the water and faced him, crossing your arms as he did the same.
“Do the kids hate me?” The corner of his lips turned up before he started laughing, clutching his stomach. If it were any other time, you would obsess over his laugh; it was music to your ears, the highlight of your day, and the sun when it’s bright out. You softly slapped his arm. “Harry! I’m being serious!”
“Darling, you’re joking, right?” Your heart briefly fluttered at his nickname for you. “Those kids love you!” He noticed your change of attitude and that you’d been thinking about this for a while and beating yourself up over it.
“It’s just…I don’t want them to think that we broke up and I forgot about them. I mean I understand if they see it that way because I left without saying another word for six months--didn’t even get to say goodbye to them and have a proper talk. I just don’t want them to hate me.” You looked down at your feet as you played with the thin silver band on your middle finger.
Harry’s seen you in work mode, and it reeks confidence and power. You don’t need much reassurance during work unless it’s when your employees tell you that progress is moving along. But this was completely different; you needed all the reassurance that you could get to get it through your head that the kids that you’d come to love--from the moment you met them--don’t hate you. And Harry didn’t mind telling you over and over again.
“They were just that we split up, that’s all. But they quickly understood why.”
“What’d you tell them?” You asked curiously.
“The truth--that sometimes it’s better to be apart for a while rather than drive ourselves crazy. Told them that when the time is right, then maybe we’ll get back together.” The look in his eyes was so comforting that you immediately fell into them. Harry was always the best with giving you that extra reassurance that you and his kids need.
You felt the extra beat in your chest that pumped so harshly against your chest, but it was surrounded by butterflies, making it flutter throughout your body. As you looked so deeply into Harry’s beautiful green eyes, you realized one of two things; the first thing was that you never wanted to look so deeply into another person’s eyes unless it was Harry’s; and the second thing was that you were incredibly and overwhelmingly still in love with this man and his three children, and there hadn’t been a day that gone by where you weren’t.
Taking a deep breath, itches were crawling up your skin, begging you to say something. “D-Do you think it’s time?” Your voice asked shyly.
Harry was taken back by your question as he raised his brows. He couldn’t deny the nerves that he felt whenever he was around you, but your question seemed to have increased his nervousness.
“We’ve been separated for what feels like a long time now.” He paused, taking a deep breath as he recouped his thoughts to say the right words. “I think-”
“Daddy?” Yours and Harry’s head whipped towards the staircase, finding Estelle at the bottom of it with groggy eyes.
Harry walked towards his sunshine. “What is it, my love?” He kneeled down onto the bottom step, matching her height. Estelle told him that she couldn’t sleep, and that she’s been tossing and turning for a while, so Harry told her that he would lay with her until she fell asleep and carried her to her bedroom. He looked back at you as he was walking up the steps, and you gave him a soft smile, letting him know that it was completely okay.
You finished tidying up the kitchen, wiping down the counters and cleaning the dining table until you realized that you needed to get ready for tomorrow’s adventure.
Once Harry came down the stairs, he found you sitting on the edge of the armchair with your purse on your shoulder; you looked up as he walked up to you.
“I’m gonna head out.”
Harry’s slightly frowned. “Oh, you can stay the night if you want to.”
“No, it’s okay, thanks.” You really did want to stay the night, but you didn’t have a change of clothes for tomorrow. “I’ll be here tomorrow morning.” He nodded, walking you to the door, opening it for you.
You stepped out on his doorstep, turning around as you wrapped your arm around his waist, tiptoeing to plant a kiss to his cheek. The slightest bit of touch from your lips sent Harry’s skin on fire, warming up to the affection. The touch was sent away too quickly as you let go of him completely, giving him one last smile before walking to your car and waving at him as you drove away.
Harry closed the door, the palm of his hand cupped the cheek that you kissed and he sighed as if he was shot with Cupid’s love-arrow, and he wouldn’t mind it if it meant he would feel your affection every single day.
You arrived at the Styles household at ten in the morning with a tote-full of snacks and water, knowing the kids would get hungry from all the walking. You got there forty-five minutes earlier than planned, knowing that the Styles family wouldn’t be out the door right on time because Harry has three kids, two of them who bicker and complain from time to time—especially when they’re sleepy—and a two-year-old who was starting to run away from everything. So, you figured Harry would appreciate your help.
When Harry saw you standing on his doorstep, he let out a sigh of relief. He was still in his striped pajamas pants and a white t-shirt, holding a small pair of olive green pants. You walked in and saw Rory running around half naked, despite it being early in the morning. You told Harry that he could shower and get ready for the day, and to leave it to you because you’ll handle it—plus, you both knew that the kids often listened to you more than their own dad. He smiled appreciatively, kissing your head briefly before walking up the stairs and getting ready.
Once Rory saw you, he stopped running around the house and instead, ran towards you and into your arms. You carried him up the stairs and to his room to get some clothes on him, and luckily, Harry was able to bathe him before you showed up. You gave him his favorite toy to fumble with before you walked into Mira's room, setting Rory on her twin bed before helping her get ready. You left Rory in Mira’s room and went to Estelle’s bedroom, doing the same.
By the time Harry walked downstairs, you and the three kids were sitting on the couch, eating a banana. He smiled, slowing his steps as he was amazed at the quietness and stillness in the house, but then again, he wasn’t that amazed because he knew you’d come in and get things in order.
Harry’s home was a two minute walk to the train station, and everyone decided to take the train since it was what you and Harry did when you two were dating, and the kids really wanted to walk through the entire path of their father’s love story.
Luckily, there weren’t that many people on the train—it was practically empty—so they didn’t have to rush to get a spot for the kids. Rory sat in the middle of his sisters as they all smiled brightly towards Harry’s phone that was capturing the adorable children for a sweet memory sake. You and Harry were standing, making sure neither of the kids fell over if the train made a halting stop. You held onto the metal bar above you, Harry held the bar that was mounted into the floor, and you both watched the kids interact with one another—counting on their fingers, booping one another’s noses, and laughing; it was every parent’s dream.
Without noticing, Harry moved closer to you, placing his hand directly next to yours; the side of your hand touched his, and you looked at him with wide eyes while your heart fluttered. You were hip to hip, and you saw the smirk he had on his face while occasionally glancing over at you. You couldn’t help the heat that rose onto your cheeks because it felt like old times when you two used to ride the train together and it would get too packed to where you had to stand up; he would always face you as your hands touched—sometimes he would even intertwine your fingers together while you two held the bar as you were one—and he would hover over you, giving you plentiful kisses like the true romantic that he was.
The train ride took about 30 minutes and it was a two minute walk to the place that gave you so many happy memories and nostalgia—International Rose Test Garden was where the memories of you and Harry were stored.
You had the girls on either side of you, holding their hands; and Harry carried Rory since he was likely to run around and Harry didn’t want to risk his safety.
The sun was bright—beautiful for a day in the garden as the roses and flowers bloomed ever so widely. All of you walked the rows and rows of flowers, occasionally taking pictures in front of the rose bushes.
Remembering all the times you and Harry were hand in hand, laughing until your stomachs were sore, like you did an intense ab workout, and there were tears resting in the outer corner of your eyes. All the memories that were swirling around in your head made you come to the conclusion to one thing: you never want to be without Harry and his kids ever again.
You don’t know how it took you so long to realize this, maybe it was seeing them for the first time in six months that you realized that you had it great—a small family that accepted you and loved you for who you were, and you loved them just the same.
Harry walked beside you, the kids skipping and playing around in the grass in front of you two. Confidently, you slipped your hand into Harry’s ringed hand, immediately intertwining your fingers together as if your hand knew what it was missing. Harry briefly looked down before looking at you. He smiled, and turned his head back towards the kids, not making a big deal of it as his warm hand accepted the coldness of yours.
You gently tugged against his arm, pulling him back as he came face to face with you; a quiet gasp came out of his mouth when doing so. You looked up at him with bright eyes, and Harry was taken back to a year and a half ago where you, coincidentally, were in this same spot on the very green patch of grass.
“Harry…” you breathed out, looking down at your feet nervously. He made the bold move to step closer to you, chests almost touching. Harry lifted your chin up with his fingers, locking eyes with you so intently that you practically lost your breath.
“What is it?” He whispered.
Taking a deep breath, you said, “I-I realized something.”
“Yeah? What’s that?”
Glancing over at the kids, they were giving you big smiles and thumbs up for reassurance, and your heart swooned at their support and love they provided you to finally get back together with their father, even if you weren’t their biological mother.
You looked back at Harry, who was waiting patiently. “I love you. I still do and never stopped.” Harry felt like he stopped breathing at that moment. “You make me so happy—you and the kids, and I don’t want to be without you all anymore. I-I don’t like how it’s only taken me this much time to tell you this, but it felt like the perfect time since this was the place where I first told you I loved you.”
Harry smiled, taking your hands into his. His thumbs smoothed your skin on the back of your hand before he brought them up to his lips and kissed them so delicately. The action made you smile softly before your mind had switched it to thinking that it was affection before the rejection.
But then he opened his mouth to speak such beautiful words that you had been aching to hear during the breakup.
“You’re my everything. I truly don’t know what I’d do without you because you. You’re part of my source of happiness, and life didn’t feel the same without you—the kids could agree with me on that.” He chuckled, looking at them to find them holding hands and jumping around in circles. “But I know that we separated for the better only for us to come back stronger than ever, and I’m never gonna let go of you again, okay?”
Tears pricked your eyes before they streamed down your cheeks. Your heart felt like it was pounding harder than ever, but it was filled with so much love from and for this man in front of you.
Harry wiped away your tears, leaning in to kiss your forehead, down to your eyelids as he kissed your tears away. He pulled away and you opened your eyes, giving each other a relieved and happy smile.
“I love you,” he said, and he swore he saw the brightest smile he’s ever seen—brighter than the sun. “Always have and always will.”
“And I love you. C-Can you kiss me, please?”
Harry grinned. “It would be an honor.”
Placing his palms on the side of your face, he leaned his forehead against yours. Your hands were wrapped around his wrists, rubbing his skin softly. With a smile, he kissed you with such softness and passion that the flowers bloomed largely and the sun shined ever so brightly. The kids cheered and clapped, making bystanders think that you’d just gotten engaged, but you both knew that would be the next step. Your stomach was in knots, butterflies surrounding your body as he captured your lips with his. Hugging Harry’s waist, you pulled him closer and wrapped your arms around him, and he kissed you harder, effortlessly moving his lips in sync with yours as if he was a pro on kissing you, which he was.
Harry pulled away first, giving you several pecks before opening his eyes. “God, I missed doing that. Missed you so much, darling.”
“I missed you too, baby.” You were high on happiness, high on love. “I’m sorry it took us this long.” A slight frown appeared on your face, but Harry kissed it away.
“Hey, hey. None of that. I would’ve loved you until the end of time. I don’t care how long it took, you’re my forever,” he vowed, not planning to break that promise.
Missing his lips on yours, you leaned up to kiss him again while your arms were wrapped around his neck and his were around your waist, holding you tightly as if he was afraid you’d run off.
Suddenly, you started giggling into the kiss, making Harry smile before he pulled away.
“What’s so funny?” He asked. You started thinking about the conversation from the park when you asked him if he was seeing someone.
You curled in your lips before you said, “You’re a literal dilf, and I’m so in love with you.”

I had another intense daydream about DILF Bakugou. It will be a continuation from my first one.
Again, I am not a strong/good writer so please don’t come at me for mistakes. I also didn’t think I was going to get attached to the kids but haha I did. The oldest one’s name is Liam and the younger one’s name is Noah.
Warning: Cursing and mutual pining.
----
The elevator door opens at his penthouse apartment, it was 8:30am and you were already there. Seems kinda eager Y/N. You stir in the elevator trying to calm yourself down pressing your hand to your chest taking a deep breath as the elevator door opens. You almost forgot how to breathe when you saw Bakugou standing there in front of the elevator holding two cups of coffee. “Good morning, you’re early” he says. She’s on time, I like that. Drinking you in before handing you a badly painted ceramic mug full of coffee and turning to walk to the kitchen. You quickly walk behind him. “I don’t know how you take your coffee. I have creamer if you want” he says as he pulls it out of the fridge and places it in front of you. “Just a little sugar” you say pushing past his hands grabbing the covered sugar that was on the counter. He grabs it before you can and places it in front of you but not before you hands touch for a moment. You jolt your hand back and smile warmly as you put a spoonful into your coffee and take a sip. That was cute. It’s silent as you two take turns staring at each other while the other looks around the house or out the window. Bakugou was wearing a black tank top that beautifully showcased the muscles that were scattered with scars as a result of years of hero work. He was wearing black pajama pants that hung low enough for you to almost see his happy trail. God, he looks so good. Stay calm. After you both finish your coffee he stands up and leads you up the staircase. The apartment looks bigger than last night, the light beaming in showcasing it’s grandness. Bakugou tells you about the boys, one is 11 and the other is 3 ½. He goes on to talk about them like if they’re the best thing to ever happen to him. Who would’ve thought he had a soft side. He looks so happy when he talks about them. I can’t fuck this up.
You walk behind him as he enters the boy’s bedroom but stop in your tracks before entering looking at the sign that says, “NO GIRLS ALLOWED” in big bold badly written handwriting. “Hi” says the older one staring at you, arms crossed and tense. No one can deny that he’s Bakugou’s child. “Hi, my name is Y/N” you said with a warm smile. The little one ran to you hugging both your legs together almost making you fall over. “I like your name. You’re pretty. Why are you here?” he said all in one breath looking up at you. “She’s here to hang out with us today,” he said, mirroring the older one. “Do we really need a babysitter?” said the older one under his breath but still loud enough for you to hear him. Bakugou looked at him and said, “Yes, you can do your own thing but Y/N’s here to mostly help your brother” he grunted annoyed at the older one’s questioning. Wow you can cut the tension with a knife. The little one hangs on your legs and you bend down to hold him in your arms. “You smell good. She’s mine now” wrapping his arms around your neck and red eyes staring daggers at his dad and brother. Yeah, he’s bakugou’s kid for sure too. “You can keep her” the older one says under his breath rolling his eyes pushing past you leaving the room. The rest of the morning went well, you spent most of the time with the little one. You guys had breakfast together. Bakugou made pancakes and eggs while the little one showed you his massive Almighty collection. The bigger one walking by from time to time just to see what you both were doing.
After breakfast it was bathtime. You were giving the younger one a bath when Bakugou walked by. He looked in and he wouldn’t help but smile at the view of you kneeled down in front of the tub blowing bath bubbles, praising the little one for being so good at it. I think I did the right thing. Look at how happy he is. He deserves to have a content woman in his life. They’re perfect together. Don’t fuck this up man. He leans against the door frame. The little one notices and looks past Y/N at his dad. “What are we doing today daddy?” he says with a hopeful smile it’ll be something fun. “Yeah, what are we doing today daddy?”. You pause covering your mouth immediately after saying it. FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK. “U-Um I was thinking about the park, movie at home then dinner. How does that sound?” he said staring at the back of your head then at the little one. “YESSSSSSSSS” the little one jumped up out of the bathtub slashing your shirt as a result. You all laugh. You turn to grab the towel hanging on the sink and your eyes meet. His eyes are so intense. He probably wants to fire me. God, why would I say that. Little did you know Bakugou melted at the sound of you calling him that. Something about was so natural like it just melted off your tongue. The morning went normal as well. There were moments where you could feel Bakugou’s eyes on you. You peek at him for a second just for your eyes to meet and him to look away at the last second. When you arrive at the park you clench at your purse full of park necessaries. The two boys run away as soon as they see the playground. You sat yourself down beside Bakugou, not moving your eyes from the little one. Some time passes before you finally say, “I-I’m sorry about earlier, I didn’t mean to call you that. I-I was just repeating what he said” you explained not making eye contact. Bakugou’s heart broke a little. He didn’t mind it all. He was actually thinking about it the whole time. Imaging you calling him that over and over. “I didn’t mind,” he says, staring at you and letting out a little giggle. “I thought I made things awkward” letting out a sigh of relief moving her eyes to meet his. His eyes can really turn a hole into anyone huh. Her whole body relaxed as she put the purse on the side of the bench. “You didn't,” he said, looking out at the little one as he waved from the highest part of the playground. She sat there as they began to make small talk. “Y/N, come here. Come play with me!” the little one yelled at the top of lungs. “Coming!” you call out jumping to your feet, your breast giggling as you stand up. Bakugou noticed. Bakugou is left there watching you and the little one giggling and hugging each other. I can get used to this.
The little one was playing in the sandbox while you were standing on the outside watching him and praising him for doing a good job. “Hey, I’ve never seen you here before” A voice says behind you, making you jump. “No, I’ve never been to this park” you say looking up at the man. He was pretty handsome, tall and wearing a bookbag probably full of park supplies. “Is that your kid? He’s cute” he says, waving at the little one. “No, I’m just the babysitter” you say, turning back around to face the boy. You turn your head to look at Bakugou and he’s already on his way over to you. “Hey man, can I help you?” He steps between you and the man. Bakugou towering over the poor man. “Oh shit, dynamight. I’m a huge fan” he says reaching out to grab his hand but Bakugou just stares at him. You are intensely staring at the two men until the little one grabs you and pulls you away from them and towards the swings. “Man, your babysitter is hot, but I’m guessing you already knew that. We’ve all been checking her out” the man said, staring at you and pointing at the group of men all staring at you as you push the little on the swing. “What?” he said looking around at all the men staring at you like a piece of meat. OH FUCK NO. He didn’t even notice how good you looked in that outfit. WHY WERE THERE SO MANY MEN HERE WTF. You bent over to tie the little one’s shoes putting your whole ass on display. He would almost hear the men gasp and whisper disgusting things about you to each other. Little explosion started in his hands. Calm down. The man walked away at that point seeing how angry he looked. He walked over to you and grabbed you by the wrist, “Lets go” he said almost growling. “Yeah, is everything okay?” you say confused. “Fucking extras..” he said looking around letting go of your wrist. You grab the little one and call out to the bigger that they’re leaving. The whole car ride was awkward. He kept looking at you from time to time and scuffing. What’s up with the mental gymnastics?. What happened? Did the guy say something about you? You barely talked to him. The next few weeks were filled with laughs, cuddles and love while you were in the Bakugou home from the little one and occasional engagement from the older one. Bakugou wanted to make you feel more at home so he would buy flowers and candles and put them around the apartment. It was a nice thought.
One day you can hear him stirring and cursing under his breath in his office when you walk by. “Are you coming to watch the movie with us daddy” said the little one as he came into the office. “Nah. You guys can watch it. I’ll sit this one out” he said turning around in his computer chair to look at him. “No, I really want you to. We have to watch it like a family.” he looks up at him and attempts to do the world’s best puppy dog face. “I don’t think so” he twirls in his computer chair back to the computer. “I think It'll make Y/N pretty happy.” he says squinting at him. “Right Y/N?” Manipulative little brat “It would make me very happy” you straighten your back as you hear your name. “Okay” he says standing up from his chair walking behind you as you go to put on a movie while sitting on the couch. The little one was firmly placed on your lap while the older one was on the other side of the coach on their phone. Bakugou sat next to you placing his arm above the coach behind you. 30 minutes into the movie both Bakugou and the little one were snoring. The little one now wrapped around your chest drooling on your collarbone and bakugou knocked out on your shoulder. This felt nice. You continued and watched the movie trying your hardest not to laugh loud enough for both of them to wake up. Once the movie ended it was already dark out so you decided to shift your way out of bakugou’s grasp now firmly wrapped around your waist and bring the little one to bed. The older one watching your every move.
You’re about to wake up bakugou still knocked out on the couch when you hear, “You’re not our mom you know”. You turn around to see the older one standing there, arms crossed. “I didn’t think I was honey” you say softly walking over him. He steps back and stares at you. “Y-You’re acting like-like our mom used to” he said in almost a whisper. “I’m not here to replace your mom my love. I’m just here to make your family’s life a little easier. I’m sorry if I’m stepping on anyone toes.” He huffed in response. “I just miss her sometimes and you kinda..” He stops himself. You sit down in one of the stools in front of him. “I’m here if you wanna talk about it” you say looking at him. You were unsure about what happened to their mom. Bakugou never mentioned her and neither did the kids. It was almost like she didn’t exist until now. “She left us a while ago. She told us she was coming back for us but she never did. I-I don’t know why” he looked like he was going to cry. You jumped out of your seat to hug him but he rejected it, pushing your arms away. “I can’t trust you. You’re going to leave just like her” he said as he ran to his room and slammed the door. You didn’t want to leave him like this. You couldn’t leave him like this. You waited a while and decided to make him his favorite meal, spicy ramen. You go in front of the door and knock, “I left some spicy ramen in front of the door. I figured you were hungry” you say leaning against the door. No answer. You can hear the door slowly creak open as you walk away and you smile.
You walk away going downstairs to clean up the mess you made. “Hey” a voice says from the couch. Bakugou stretches his huge muscles and it makes your knees feel a little weak. “Hey sleepy head” you say lovingly. “How long was I out?” he said looking for a clock. “I’m not sure, A while I guess. I finished watching the movie a while ago” you said scrubbing the dish. “Oh” he said in a raspy voice. “Anything happened?” he said, reading your tense body language. “Liam brought up his mom” you said biting your bottom lip not meeting his eyes. “Oh fuck, that agan” he says wiping his mouth with his hand then rubbing his neck. “Yeah, he was pretty upset. Do you mind if I sleep over. I’ll sleep on the couch if anything. I want to make him his favorite breakfast in the morning.” you look up at Bakugou almost with tears in your eyes. She really likes my kids, wow. “U-Um yeah, you can sleep over whenever you like. We have an extra bedroom. I kinda like it better than you going home.” he says looking for your reaction. “I really only use my place to sleep and come back here anyways” you say giggling. “Then you should just move here” he says.
You both stare at each other. “Yeah, I think I’d like that,” you said trying to conceal your smile.

TBZ reactions to their s/o being shy and having an rbf in public but really talkative around ppl they know
requested by: @dalivanmagritte
i’m reallly sorry this took me so long to post! T__T I thought I’d be able to finish it in one day,,, but that unfortunately was not true. I hope you enjoy! <3
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sangyeon:
would be so used to you being super talkative and fun that whenever you were both in public he was surprised by how scary you could look when not smiling. like he’d look over and see you zoning out bc you felt really uncomfortable around strangers and he’d be like “shoot i need to go talk to her before someone thinks she’s plotting murder” so he’d rush over and be like “whatta thinking about that makes you look so grim?” and you’d be like “oh i was just wondering if I should wash my clothes when I get home or wait until tomorrow” and he’d like blink--- and then shake his head wondering how you can be so different around strangers than you were when you were around ppl you were comfortable with. he likes to stay near you most as much as possible in public bc he knows it makes you more comfortable.
Jacob:
the first time you met he was like “oh she’s scary!!” and then his friend introduced you to each other and you became friends and then he completely forgot about ever thinking you were scary bc you were so talkative and silly around your friends. but then after you started dating you went out together and he left for a moment and you started to feel really uncomfortable around all the ppl there and so you stopped smiling and looking around with interested and just sat there with a serious face avoiding all eye contact and when he came back he had a flashback of first meeting you and was like “ummm hey” and you looked up and smiled and looked like your usual self that he was use to and he was like “you look mad scary when you’re not smiling” and you laugh and you’re like “I know. It keeps the weirdos away” you don’t spend that much time around ppl you don’t know after you started dating him though, so it’s all good
Younghoon:
I mean, he sort of has an rbf too so you’ll would connect over that, like the first time you met you were at the library studying and you both looked so scary everyone avoided y’all so you started sitting at the same table so others could sit together away from y’all and then one day something funny happened and you both laughed and you both looked so pretty smiling that everyone in the library was like *mouth drops open* anyways, you and younghoon kinda start liking each other bc you’re always together at the library so you start dating and you’re so happy together you forget how scary you both look until you go out into public alone and look like murder is on your mind. You have a picture of each other smiling as your lock screens so you remember to smile and not scare ppl in public.
Hyunjae:
he’d tease you a lot lol. he knew you for a long time so he kinda got used to your rbf when you were around unfamiliar ppl so he teases you so you smile and look cute again. and he knows you could talk for hours once you're around ppl you like, and he loves that more than anything. he actually realized he was in love with you while watching you zone out across the room. like he always thought “where would this girl be without me” and then suddenly he was like “wait--- i need her more than she needs me” but he just loves seeing you looking all scary in public and ppl lowkey being afraid of you and so you approaches you all coolly and is like “YAH!!” right in front of your face and everyone is like “this dude is gonna get socked in the nose for that” and then you just smile and he’s like “yes. mission accomplished” and everyone’s like “hold on she looks really friendly when she’s smiling!” but they never get a chance to talk with you once hyunjae is around bc he keeps you all to himself knowing you feel more comfortable and happy that way and he loves listening to you talk.
Juyeon:
legit thought you hated him at first and was like “shoot i made this girl hate me and idek what i did” and then one of your friends walks up and you start smiling and he’s like “oh. that girl is beautiful! and she looks really friendly once she smiles” so he tries to get to know you and you instantly like him so you begin talking freely with him and he’s like so whipped for you whenever you smile which is often when you’re talking. so he just listens and listens while you go on and on. and he just loves that he won your trust. he wonders how he could ever think you were scary until you’re left in the corner of the room by yourself and you feel afraid around a lot of strangers so you stop smiling and talking and avoid ppl and he’s like “sjkfjskdksjdkjksjdk I need to go talk be with her rn so she’s happy again” and basically that’s how you start dating. while you guys are dating it’s pretty much the same thing-- he loves listening to you talk and he loves more than anything that you’re comfortable around him.
Kevin:
you were at the library and you zoned out and you were staring all scarily in the same direction kevin was sitting in and he *that meme of the kid holding the cup and who keeps looking sideways at the camera* like he really thinks you’re gonna approach him about something he never did. so he goes over to you and he’s like “are you ok?” and you jerk out of your daydream to see this really cute guy looking at you worriedly and slightly scared and you’re like “ohhh ummm yeahhh why do you aks tho???” and you smile a little bc gosh he’s cute and he’s like “gosh she’s cute” and he’s like “oh nothin” and uses a cheesy pickup line to get your number and you start dating/ become bffs and he lowkey loves that you look so scary when you’re around other ppl but then open up like a flower in the sunshine with him and you and him laugh and talk like there’s no tomorrow whenever you’re together bc you’re both pretty talkative. y’all are inseparable! but like he picks up the habit of looking scary and avoiding eye contact with ppl bc of you and his friends are like “?????” but he doesn't even realize how much he’s been influenced by you.
Chanhee:
he meets you through mutual friends and they warn him like “yeahhh she looks really scary around ppl she doesn’t know but be warned, she’s SUPER talkative once you get to know her” and chanhee’s like “scary around ppl you don’t know? a girl after my own heart” and so you immediately click like---yeahh bffs! you both look scary in public tbh, but when you’re alone you just talk and talk and he just listens with heart eyes bc he loves listening. and you always look so happy when you’re with him or your friends and he’s just like “ahhhhhhh she’s so cute!!!” even when you look like you want to murder someone out in public. you’ll both just glare at ppl together when out in public sometimes even though you’re happy together, just to annoy your friends lol. chanhee never judges you or forces you to talk with ppl when you’re feeling uncomfortable. he 100% understands and instead of saying things like “you should just tryyyy to talk to someone new!!!” he’d be like “what? you’re feeling uncomfortable? mmkay, let’s go...rn!” and y’all would leave-- doesn’t even matter where you were at.
Changmin:
would be like “??????” the first time you felt comfortable enough around him to open up. he thought your gloomy face and quiet personality was who you always were and he was starting to fall in love with that part of you when you burst open like the sunshine and just talked and laughed freely. and then you’re like “oh,,, i’m sorry. did i startle you?” and he’d be like *shocked pikachu face* “oh my goodness no! your laugh is ADORABLE!!!!” and then he’d constantly do things to make you smile and laugh and bring up topics he knew you could talk about for days bc he’s just so in love with you. every part of your personality is endearing to him. he’d tease you after you’d been dating for a while and he knew the limit to which he could tease you without going too far. he’d pretend not to know you and look all scared if he ”happened” to end up standing next to you and like jokingly make a “help me” face to his friends and then someone would notice and start to walk up to him to rescue him from the scary quiet girl and then he’d start laughing and hold your hand while you rolled your eyes.
Haknyeon:
confused. how could you be so different around strangers than when you were with him? even with your friends your social battery would run out soon. but when you were with him?? you had no limit to your energy and excitement and you showed your happiness so easily to him whereas with others you looked scared and skeptical even if you were happy. he worried about you a lot at the beginning of your relationship,,, like you’d be standing there zoning out, not talking to anyone, and he’d be like “gosh, is she ok???? did someone say something upsetting to her????? did she receive bad news????” and he’d rush over to you as soon as he could whenever he saw you starting to look abandoned and sad out in public. after dating for a while you learned to just constantly hang on to his arm bc he protected you from strangers trying to converse with you. when you two were alone you both talked a lot but you laughed even more, like you would have deep meaningful conversations and then just switch to telling the lamest jokes and rolling on the floor dying with laughter and then he’d just look at you while you were smiling and wiping away tears from laughing and he’d smile thinking he was the luckiest guy in the world to have you--- all to himself!
Sunwoo:
wouldn’t even be surprised the first time you hung out together and you really opened up. like he could tell there was a lot more to you than your quietness and rbf. when you first started dating some ppl that knew you both would be like “she looks scary af. what if she’s really boring and like,,, mean??” and he’d *cue the tongue in the cheek thing* “shut up”. once you two were dating for a while he would get so used to your talkative bright personality that when ppl are like “ohhh! you’re dating y/n! the really quiet girl?” he’d be like “who tf are you talking about! I’m dating y/n” and they’d be like *confusion*. he knows your quiet personality in public is a part of who you are and he respects that, but like he doesn’t really even remember that part of you, bc most of your time together is spent alone and he knows that’s when you’re most comfortable and your true self. absolutely HATES when ppl misunderstand you and then hold that against you. you don’t really care but he gets really protective over you.
Eric:
would think it was SO cute! he would coo and tease you gently when you were in public together making you crack a smile. when you started dating and he saw that you matched his energy he would be ecstatic! like he could not wait until you were home and in your comfort zone so you could be crazy together and laugh and talk for hours. sometimes in public old ladies would be like “deary,, you must remember to smile sometimes for your pretty bf here” and Eric would be like “????” “she does, but only when we’re alone” and then he would like flirtatiously smile at you causing you to blush and causing the old lady to feel kinda uncomfortable (as she should) literally does not phase him at all that you’re so different around strangers. like he doesn’t understand it, but he doesn’t think it’s weird either. if you’re standing there like “ughhh i hate ppl” written all over your face you’ll just smile to himself bc yeahh he just thinks it’s cute that you’re that way (idek) and then when someone tries to talk with you and he’s around he’ll swoop over and be like “hi. I’m her bf and spokesperson, how can I help”

『© do not steal/repost my work w/o permission』
『♡』 chapter two: study date minus the date
The day seemed to drag on as you daydreamed about what your meeting with Yoriichi would be like. You imagined it would probably be mundane and straight to the point, but then your mind took a rather more--romantically expressive turn. The cliche trope of your hands touching. The longing puppy love looks when the other wasn't looking and then him tucking your hair behind your ear before leaning down to--
"Earth to [name]." A high pitched voice called out as they waved their dainty hand in front of your face. You blinked back a couple of times before reality hit you again. You were still sitting in your chemistry class with your friends who were your current groupmates working on another boring lab.
"Were you even listening to the professor? You need to record the weight every trial, meaning we are not doodling hearts and stars." You looked at the ravenette in a dazed fashion before gazing down at your lab and sure enough your bottom half of the page was covered in little hearts and stars. Your eyes squinted at the "YT + [your initials]" in a tiny heart.
"Did you seriously write your initials with his?" Shinobu's breath was creeping at the crook of your neck and you quickly covered your page embarrassed you would let your guard down so easily. Your cheeks were now pink with agitation as your friend laughed at you.
"Shut up." You mumbled putting your head on the lab table.
"Aw, do you have a crush [name]? That is so cute!" Mitsuri gushed at you.
"Kill me."
"Yes, and it’s on that cute guy with the long hair we saw at the cafe that one time.” Shinobu sang much to your annoyance.
”Oh, the one with the red at the ends?”
”That’s the one.”
”How do you even know that?” You winced at them, wondering how in the world they knew about him.
Shinobu gave you a knowing look as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. “We literally saw you staring at him last week when we were on break and then he caught you.”
You were visibly ashamed. “I-I wasn’t staring!”
“You totally were.”
“Was not.”
”Was too.”
You rolled your eyes as you groaned. Once Shinobu and Mitsuri knew you had a crush on someone it was game over. They would ask you for updates all the time. There was really no escaping their torture. They would want to know every detail because it was rare for you to have crushes. You were a very picky person when it came to liking someone. You sometimes would question why you had such high standards for men, but it has helped you waste less time on the ones that weren’t worth it.
”Soooo,” Shinobu had her finger intertwined under her chin as her elbows rested on the table. Her mischievous smile was really starting to irk you. You ignored her and began to record the weight on the scale and then erased your little doodles.
”C’mon, [name]. Please tell us more about him!” Mitsuri’s eyes were practically twinkling as she gave you her best puppy dog eyes. You sighed as you placed your mechanical pencil down.
”His name is Yoriichi Tsugikuni. He is in my Western Civ class and we got partnered up for a research project. I am meeting him at 3:15 today in that little cafe that’s right across campus.” Your voice was monotone and even as you spoke, but the girls were practically squealing with joy.
“Oh my God! You’re seeing him today? By yourself?!” Mitsuri was covering her mouth to hide her excitement but failed. She looked like she was going to start foaming at the mouth any moment now.
"You have to update us every fifteen minutes." Shinobu stated as she began another trial with a conniving grin on her face. Her ability to multi task was beyond you. She was stellar at almost anything she did. Chem, bio, anatomy you name it. You expected nothing less from a pre-med major.
"Yes, yes. Your wish is my command." You said sarcastically as you leaned your chin on your palm. You really couldn't wait for you to enjoy a coffee with Yoriichi in a little cafe. It almost felt like a study date, but like not.
"Are you thinking about how your date is gonna go?" The ravenette teases as she squeezes the pipette into the beaker. You inhale deeply before letting out, causing Mitsuri to giggle.
"It's not a date. We're literally doing a project together."
"So, then why is it off campus in that cute little coffee shop where couples only go to? Hm?"
You were really starting to become vexed by Shinobu's singsongy voice that had an underlying mischevious tone. You grimaced at her. "How should I know? I've never been."
"Ooo! That'll really set the mood for the both of you." You looked over at Mitsuri who was supposed to be recording observations but was instead gushing for the nonexistent budding romance between you and your history partner.
"Honestly, if I have to hear one more word about this I am not going to update either of you on anything that happens." Their faces dropped in unison. "And," you lifted your finger for emphasis that you were indeed being serious. "I will no longer participate in movie nights."
By this time, they looked utterly defeated. "Alright." Shinobu began.
"We'll stop." The rosette sitting beside her finished. You smiled triumphiantly to yourself as you scribbled down the weight you saw on the scale. If hadn't put your foot down when you did they would've never stopped nagging you about your newly found crush. Well, you didn't consider it a crush quite yet. He was just a very good looking guy who happened to sit next to you in class that you just happened to have a research project with. Shout out to Professor Garrison for that.
"So you'll update us?" Shinobu's smile was unchanging. She really does not give up, does she?
"Shinobu..." Mitsuri whispered at her. Her voice was filled with concern. She didn't want your mutual friend ruining anything by trying to poke her head in your business some more when you had clearly drawn a boundary.
"It's okay, Mitsuri. Yes, I will update you, but you need to be more tame or else I will revoke your update priviledges. Got it?"
"Got it!" They exclaimed in unison causing the class and the professor to look in your direction. They went back to doing their original task ignoring the blantantly annoyed looks and whispers about how rowdy you guys get from time to time.
"So, anyways, Mitsuri. Did you record the color change?" Shinobu's voice was drowned out by the loud thoughts in your mind. The rest of class seemed to pass as slow as ever and you were checking your phone way too often for your liking, so you placed it a few feet away from you to avoid it from distracting you.
Bzz.
Your phone lit up and his name was on your text message notifications. You held your breath for a moment and unbeknowst to you it caught Shinobu's eye. She didn't say anything and instead went back to continuing your shared lab.
『Hey are we still on for today @ around 3:15?』
You hadn't noticed your face light up as you unlocked your phone to reply.
『Yeah, I'm about to get out of my class soon. So I'll see you then』
Your two girlfriends wanted oh, so badly, to shriek with excitement, but they didn't want any backlash from you. Because you definitely would punish them in the form of silent treatment. You were notorious for going on days being totally radio silent any time someone had crossed a line you clearly set. That was your personal rule and you were not going to budge on it.
『Great, you know where it is right?』
『It's between that bike repair shop and the 7/11, right?』
『That's the one』
『Perfect, see you soon :)』
『*Yoriichi liked your message*』
You grimaced in annoyance. Why do men have to be so simple. Not that it was a big deal or anything but you would've appreciated an actual response back. With, you know, words.
"Are you almost done, Shinobu?" You asked, not looking up from your phone. You couldn't exactly hide your disappointment, but what did you actually expect? You barely knew each other, so it wasn't something that should've surprised you. No expectations equals no disappointment. You made a mental note of that.
"Mhm, just record this last trial and we should be good to turn it in."
You set your phone down and began to write down the last weight and the three of you shuffled around for a bit trying to copy all your notes on one lab to turn in for the day. As you were all making your way out, you handed your assignments in to your professor but he managed to stop you all before you headed out.
"Let's remember to keep our voices down as other students are working. Okay, ladies?" Your chem professor gave you all a knowing look. You raised your eyebrows at them as they smiled back not wanting to laugh, but instead gave him a "Yes, sir." in response.
"Why does nobody in our class have a personality." You laughed as you adjusted the strap of your bag.
"No, like literally. They're so quiet all the time it kind of drives me cra--Hey isn't that--?" Shinobu gaze is now across the hall and you follow it. It was no mistaking that it was Yoriichi sitting adjacent to where the three of you stood, reading his book with his legs spread out. He was incredibly fixated on it, not paying even the least bit of attention to anything or anyone else around him. His eyes instantaneously fluttered to your gaze and he raised his eyebrows at you, showing that he were surprised to see you there and raised his hand to wave to you.
"I'll see you guys later?" You said as you waved back not even looking at them. They agreed, trying to conceal their giggles but failed miserably as they walked away. You stepped forward as he started to put his book away in his backpack and stood up.
"Hey, I've never seen you around here after my chem class. Do you usually sit here?" Lie. A complete and utter lie that just fell from your lips and into the air. Nearly everday that you would come out of your class, you would see him sitting there in the same spot reading a book that he never seemed to take his eyes off of. You obviously avoided staring at him for too long because then your cover would be blown.
He smiled softly. It was the first time you had the pleasure of seeing it. It made you feel--warm. "Hey, yeah, I'm usually in this same spot for a bit before I go home."
"Oh, nice. Do you have anything else you need to do?"
"No, I'm completely done for the day actually. Did you need to do anything?"
"Nope, I just suggested 3:15 because I usually hang with my friends for a bit before I head back to my apartment."
"Oh, you live on campus?" You smiled a little more when he asked because let's face it, you weren't going to want to talk about your research project the whole time. Leaving room for more casual conversation was more of the path you wanted to go down.
"Yeah, that's how I know where that coffee shop you were talking about is. It's like a few blocks down from my place."
"Oh right," He looked at his watch to check the time. "we should get to the coffee shop. But it must be nice living so close to campus, no?"
"Right, the project." You sighed as you followed his lead, beginning your walk off campus."Yeah, you would think so right? But just knowing you live here out of convenience to go to class is so..."
"Debilitating?" He finished for you with a small smile. Ugh, he was just too cute for words.
"Yes. Very much, yes."
He chuckled at how easily you seemed to agree. "That's why I live a few miles away. I can't stand waking up knowing I am just a two minute walk away from campus."
"Oh, so you keep business and pleasure separate, huh?" It just slipped. You hadn't meant to say it and now that you did you felt like you were being too much too fast.
But instead of you expecting him to be awkward, he just laughed. "Yeah, something like that."
He just never failed to amaze you. His laugh, his smile, his cute boyish charm and the way that he was so intoxicating with you barely knowing him. The thrill laid in how you didn't know him. His enigmatic energy was always surging just tugging at your heart strings and you were begging for more.
"Oh we're already here." You said as you pulled yourself out of your thoughts. You felt like he could almost read your mind and it made you want to avoid any embarrassing intrusive thoughts. He held out the door for you and you quietly thanked him as the aroma of coffee filled your senses.
"I really enjoy coming here. Their coffee is amazing and their almond croissants are so good." He seemed to speaking absent mindedly to you as he shoved his hands in his hoodie pockets. You mentally noted that he was not only an avid coffee drinker but he also loved almond croissants. Not like it mattered necessarily, but still. He was too intriguing for you to not want to learn more about him. I mean for God's sake look at him. You were so consumed by your own thoughts you failed to realize that he was waiting for you to respond. His eyebrow now quirked at you with the crack of an amused smirk on his face.
"You good?"
"Huh?" You blinked back a couple of times and readjusted your eyes. You hadn't noticed that you had been staring at him, again. Your heart thumped out of your chest as you laughed nervously. "Yeah, my bad. So the almond croissants?"
He chuckled at you and then looked at the pastries sitting in the little glass display as he licked his lips. He was trying to decide whether or not he should play along with you. "Yeah, we should get one."
"We?"
Don't start panicking now [name]. Act cool.
"Yeah, on me. That okay, with you?" He asked coolly. You couldn't tell what on earth he was thinking when he looked at you, but the way he maroon eyes were glancing down at you. You could've melted on the floor right then and there.
"Sure. You're buying the coffee too, right?" Smooth. Almost too smooth. You weren’t expecting your voice to come out so suave and calm, but you thanked the Lord for it.
His smile getting bigger as he peered at you. “Getting greedy, huh?”
Oh. My. God. Your heart equals now imploded. There was no way it was humanly possible to be that attractive, but here he was doing just that. You wanted to slap yourself from the internal fangirling you had been doing all day but you couldn’t help yourself. Wait, did he just flirt with you?
Your eyes still on his as you spoke and bit back a smile. “More like you’re getting a little cheap, no?”
His jaw went a little aslack at your comeback, but he was enjoying himself with you. “Never that. Like I said it’s on me, so get whatever you feel like.”
”That’s a little more like it.” Where in the hell was this newfound confidence coming from? Not more than several hours ago were you dying inside at the thought of interacting with him and now you’re exchanging flirty (kinda) banter? Not that you were complaining at all. But the more time that passed as you two were hanging out, the looser and more comfortable you felt.
“I didn’t know you were such the conversationalist. You seem so taciturn in class.” He doesn’t break eye contact with you. His smile is gleaming, boyish but not innocent. There’s a hint of mischief behind it and you wanted to unfold it.
You scoffed at him. “I could say the same for you.” You looked over at the blank faced barista who hasn’t bothered asking what you wanted. “I’ll have the hazelnut coffee and an almond croissant, please.
”Make that two.” He interjected as he pulled out his wallet and handed her his card. She looked him up and down as she took it from her while she smacked on her gum. Without a word she hands him back his receipt and card and blows a bubble and popping it loudly.
”Thanks, man.” Yoriichi smiled as he took it out of their hands. The dark haired male’s green eyes bored into his muttered a “whatever.” and turned to service the next customer in line.
You raised an eyebrow as you followed him to the table you guys were going to situate yourself at. “Man?”
”Yeah, that’s my cousin, Muichiro. He’s a freshmen in high school and his twin brother, Yuichiro works in the back. His baking skills are amazing.” He replied, taking his bag off and sliding into the booth and you did the same on the opposite side.
“Both your cousins work here?”
“Yeah, it’s family owned.” He took out his pine green hydro flask, unscrewing it cap and taking a long swig of it before setting it down. The look on your face was incredulous and it almost made him spit his drink out.
“What?” He asked as he screwed the top back on. The smile he had on the moment he walked in here with seemed to be plastered on his face. It never once left his smooth visage.
“Your family owns this place?” Your voice carried throughout the cafe causing Muichiro to roll his eyes.
“Yup, it’ll be 40 years this upcoming Friday.” He sighed, cheek in palm as he looked out the window.
“No way.” You were blown away by not only how he just effortlessly looked like a model, but also how much you were learning from him in the span of an hour. It made you feel kind of special that he chose to take you here and tell you about his family’s owned cafe.
“He definitely could’ve taken you anywhere else, but he chose here.” Shinobu’s irksome voice rang through your head but you shook it off. God, she was so annoying even when she wasn’t even there.
“Is that why you don’t live on campus?” You asked but it came out more as teasing. His eyes were narrower as he shifted them to look at you. The familiar feeling of your heart sinking to your stomach washed over you.
“Something like that.” He immediately perked up and opened his laptop and took out his notebook. “We should get started.”
”Y-yeah. We should.” You agreed, opening your own laptop and notes. He continued on like nothing had happened. Well, nothing really did happen but there was a brief moment where when he paused to look at you, it was the same guarded expression he always had when he caught you staring. It almost felt like you stepped over the line but you hadn’t said anything wrong or pried. It was a simple question similar to the one he had asked you before, so why was he suddenly so defensive when you asked?
The question lingered in your head as you listened to him talked about how globalization reached the east.
“Are you okay?” He inquired abruptly, pulling you out of your thoughts. You reflexively straighten your back and stretch your arms in front of you as you sip at your coffee but it was gone the moment it touches your lips.
”Yeah, I’m good.” You replied smiling at him as you set your cup down. “Can’t believe this is gone already.”
”It’s pretty good, right? I usually get the blonde roast bu--"
"Muichiro, how many times do I have to tell you you need to be nicer to customers? You know like ask them how they are and how you can help them?" The voice echoed throughout the empty cafe earning a chuckle from Yoriichi as he tucked the wisps of hair behind his ear. You noticed an older handsome gentleman rubbing his temples at the boy with long dark hair who you mistaked for a girl earlier. His mint green eyes just stared at him blankly before he sighed.
"Alright, dad. I'll be nicer to customers and ask them stupid things like what they want, okay?" He put his hand on his father's shoulder and the man lightened up a little as he patted his son's head. He thanked him and noticed you and Yoriichi staring at their sort-of heartfelt moment.
"Yoriichi, my boy! How have you been?" He called out excitedly as he waved at him. Now it was Yoriichi's turn to sigh. You laughed at him watching him instantly regret every life decision that as led him up to this point.
"Uncle?"
"Yes." His head was now hanging in embarrassment. You smiled at him and look over at his uncle approaching you two.
"Well, he's coming this way."
His body jolted upward and he had to suppress the groan that threatened to release when he felt a pair of hands grip either sides of his shoulders.
"You embarrassed of me or somethin'?" His uncle chuckled at him when he replied with a muffled "No, uncle." and then looked over at you. His thick eyebrows raised at you and gave you a warm, toothy grin. "Who's lady friend, Yoriichi?"
"[last name] [first name]. It's nice to meet you, sir." You stood up and bowed at him. He laughed at you and shook his head.
"Oh please, sit down. There is no need to be so formal." He stuck out his hand to shake yours making you blush at his words but you shook it anyway. Yoriichi gave you an apologetic look but it only made you smile bigger as you sat back down.
"So, are you coming this friday to the anniversary?"
"Do I even have choice, Uncle Keshi?" Yoriichi looked dejected at this point and his uncle frowned at his inflated state.
"Oh, come now, Yoriichi don't be like that. It's suppose to be a fun event." He pinched his cheek making Yoriichi look even more miserable.
"Yeah, I don't really enjoy you and the other uncles getting drunk and dancing until one of you guys throw up. I always have to clean it up because everyone else just walks around it." He muttered, fidgeting with his pen.
"Well, you can invite [name] and I'm sure you two will have a blast." Uncle Keshi smiled and winked at you. You didn't really notice until now, but he was actually a lot more handsome up close. His hair was in a knot with loose strands pinned back with bobby pins in a slapdash manner and the scruff on his face looked like he hadn't shaved a few days, but it made him look dashing. If you hadn't known any better you would've thought that he was Yoriichi's dad. They were practically twins but rather than having red toned ends, they were a minty green and his eyes matched. You wondered if he had done that on purpose.
"I don't think [name] would enjoy cleaning vomit with me." Yoriichi shot his uncle a glare, but his uncle only pressed the matter.
"So, it's settled you'll come [name]?" His smile gleamed at you and you have never felt so compelled to say yes.
"Um," You looked over at your poor, poor classmate who was so desperately wanting to escape. "I mean I would have to look at my schedule--"
"Great! We'll see you at 7 then." Uncle Keshi exclaimed clapping his hands together and then pulled out his notebook and pen from the pocket of his apron. You noticed how he cuffed his sleeves that revealed what looked like a tattoo sleeve of dragon scales on either side."You like mackerel, right?"
"I guess--"
"Good choice. His Uncle Tanjuro makes the best grilled mackerel." He scribbled on the flimsy paper and then shoved it back into his apron and put his pen between his ear. He hadn't noticed your obvious staring thankfully and held out his hands once more to send himself off.
"I gotta get back to work, but it was nice meeting you [name]. I'll be expecting you." He shook your hand before disappearing off into the kitchen.
You heard Yoriichi groan softly in annoyance as he put his head between his elbows and sulked into the table.
"Are you alright?" You asked leaning down. He lifted his head from his position to face you but you hadn't realized that you leaned down too much because you found yourself almost nose-to-nose with him. His breath slightly brushing against the top of your lip and you felt yourself in some sort of daze. He was unmoving to your surprise. His maroon eyes were only gazing into your own [e/c] hues for a moment and you noticed something peaking out from the collar of his hoodie. Something dark that resembled the dragon scale tattoos like his uncle, but before you could get a real look at it he had already straightened himself out.
"I'm really sorry about my Uncle Keshi. He's such a pain sometimes and acts like a teenager." Yoriichi said in a nonchalant tone. Meanwhile, you had completely forgot to breathe and your cheeks were probably heating up from the sudden closeness.
You let out a small exhale and smiled at him. "I don't mind really. It's nice of him to invite me."
"Trust me. You don't want to come. For as long as I can remember, these anniversaries are nothing but an excuse to get drunk and sing obnoxiously loud while the kids have to clean up after their sloppy drunk parents and relatives. Not exactly anyone's idea of fun."
"You really don't wanna go to this party, do you?" You leaned on your elbow on the table with your chin in your palm now. He mimicked your gesture looking a little more cheerful.
"No, I really don't. And trust me when I say you'll just end up being the janitor at the end of the night."
"I wouldn't mind if you were there." Did something possess you? No, like really did Shinobu somehow crawl into your body and do all the talking for you because you were really beginning to feel like that was the case.
He didn't break eye contact with you, he merely had an amused look on his face. "Really?"
"I mean it could be fun, right?"
"Not at all." He laughed lightly. "But maybe you could make it interesting."
You gulped dryily now. It was odd how you felt calm like this. Usually, if someone decent looking was speaking to you your heart would be pounding through your chest and making your words tremble. Kind of like how when you do those shitty presentations for class that no one listens to.
"So you approve?" You cock an eyebrow at him. He sighed knowing that you were probably not going to take no for answer, but hell, what did he know about you? He only knew you as the girl who he sat down next to in his Western Civ class who minded her own business. It almost felt like he was taking a chance on you.
"If you really want to. But I'm warning you, not only will there be singing there is going to be dancing and they will more likely than not making you join them."
You frowned at him. "But, I am a terrible dancer."
He put his hands out in the air. "Hey, I'm just letting you know. You wanna come, you gotta pay the price of being a dancer for the night."
You exhaled loudly earning a winning smile from him. "Fine. I'll dance."
"Then, you can come. I'll be busy in the back getting helping my cousins and uncles chef it up."
"You cook?"
"Do I not look it?" His expression was playful yet challenging. It had you wondering what you did to deserve such heavenliness.
"I mean, I don't know very many men that cook." You shrugged. Which was pretty true. It was very hard to find a man in Japan who wasn't an asshole who thought that a girlfriend was a mom that they could bang.
"Well, in our family the men cook. It's tradition. Men are the protectors and providers for the home so it only makes sense for us that we hold down the fort."
"So, am I to expect gourmet meals this Friday?" You were beginning to get more and more excited as the thought was registering in your mind. You were really entering his world and he was willingly letting you with little to no resistance.
"Let's just say you'll be thoroughly impressed." He replied twirling his pen between his fingers and then pointed the tip down to his notebook. "But we should probably get through this before we get ahead of ourselves."
You felt the corners of you lips curve up and nodded your head to agree with him. "Yeah, let's get our outline together."

“Good morning!”
The egg hit the counter with more force than intended, enough to be smashed completely and leave your hand a sticky mess.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to sneak up on you.” You heard from behind you accompanied by a giggle.
You turned around, smiling and trying your best to play it cool. The devastatingly cute prince had not just seen you smash an egg on the counter. And he definitely didn't notice how you were hiding your egg covered hand behind your back. Hopefully. At least that’s what you told yourself for the sake of your sanity.
You’d been jumpy for a reason. You knew he would be there again today, and you still didn’t quite know what to do about it or how to act around the guy. Sure he was funny and cute and honestly quite pleasant to be around but he was still very much the prince.
“I’m okay! Good morning to you as well.” You bowed to him before quickly finding something to clean the raw egg off your hand and work table.
Luckily he didn’t comment on your little egg mishap any further. Instead he rounded the table until he was standing on the other side of it and he pulled up a stool and sat down the same way he had the day before, elbow on the table, with his chin resting on his hands looking at you expectantly.
“So? Fruit tart?”
“Yes, fruit tart. Shall we get started?” He quickly nodded. “Would you like me to only show you how I make it or do you want to do some of it too?”
“Oh, uh, I hadn’t really thought about that… Can I just jump in if there's something that looks easy?”
A smile spread across your lips. You’d almost forgotten in the short 24 hours you hadn’t seen him just how non-aristocratic the man acted, but what a relief it was.
“Yes, if that’s what you’d like. Let’s get started? The first thing we need to make is the tart dough.”
As you started to gather your ingredients you found it more and more difficult to focus. He wasn’t wearing pajamas anymore, he was wearing what the princes usually wear. It was very attractive. He looked, well, like a damn prince. And you were expected to just act normal? When he strolled into your bakery looking that good?? It felt very unfair. He was just wearing a thin white cotton shirt and black pants but you couldn’t help but ogle him when he wasn’t looking. His broad back, the swell of his chest, it was too much to handle. Combined with the messy head of hair and lazy smile, it had you weak in the knees.
You combined your flour, sugar, and butter and started to add your water with shaky hands, before beginning to knead it.
“Can I do that?” He asked as he got up and walked over to your side of the table.
You nodded and handed him the dough and watched as he started to clumsily smack it against the table. That was when you noticed his hands, and how pretty they were. They were slender but not bony, and you found your mind wandering off, wondering how they would feel holding yours. They were probably so soft. The mole on his thumb was so cute.
“Don’t do too much, or else the dough will get tough.” You said quickly as you snapped back to reality, reaching for the dough and he let go of it. You internally cursed yourself for getting carried away daydreaming about the man’s hands of all things.
He stayed standing next to you, watching you, as you started to roll the ball of dough out into a big enough circle to fill your tart pan. You picked it up and started to press it into the edges and the whole time you were incredibly aware of his eyes on you. You almost wished he would do something embarrassing again so you could stop being so nervous.
“You’re so quiet today.”
“People tend to like me better when I talk less.”
You frowned. “I liked talking with you yesterday.”
You could’ve sworn you saw the man blush, but you pushed the thought aside, not wanting to think about that while you had a task to complete. It would be all too embarrassing if you messed up a mere fruit tart just because there was a pretty boy distracting you.
And he couldn’t actually be blushing at that. Right?
“I expected you to be stuck up, but you aren’t at all. That was a big relief. And I think you’re kind of funny. And like I said yesterday, it can get lonely here so I’m happy to have some company.”
“You can still ask me to leave any time if I’m getting bothersome, I’ll understand.”
You looked up to meet eyes with him and gave him a small smile. You didn’t quite understand why he said such things but you very much felt the need to comfort the guy anyway.
“You aren’t bothersome. It’s nice to have someone to talk to here.”
“Thank you, I appreciate that a lot.”
He was looking down at the table now, and this time you knew he was blushing. His pink cheeks had pulled up into a small smile. Cute.
“Is that ready to bake?” He asked when he saw that you were done touching the dough.
You nodded, and before you could react he picked up the pan and walked it over to the oven before putting it inside and closing the door.
It wasn’t on purpose that you were being so quiet now. You were getting quite flustered and didn’t want to say anything embarrassing. He was the prince, you couldn’t exactly explain to him that you were having trouble focusing because of how attractive he was.
“So? What now?”
You were quickly brought back to reality by his words and realized you’d been staring at him the whole time. Like a weirdo. You could only pray that he wasn’t catching on to your odd behavior.
“The filling!” You said, a bit too loudly, as you shook yourself out of your thoughts.
You started grabbing ingredients again, keeping your eyes anywhere but on him. Once you had everything gathered, you combined the egg, sugar, and starch and handed the bowl to him.
“Do you want to mix it?”
He nodded with an adorably excited look on his face as he took the bowl from you and started to whisk the mixture together. In the meantime you began to heat up your fruit puree, and by the time it was warm enough you took the bowl from him and started to temper the egg mixture into the hot fruit. You put it back on the heat for a little while longer to make sure it got thick enough and by the time it was done it was time to take the crust out of the oven as well.
The whole time you carefully poured the filling into the crust you knew his eyes were on you but you couldn’t bring yourself to acknowledge him, out of fear of what you might do to embarrass yourself if you did. It was too quiet for too long. You still hadn’t spoken when you started to gather various fruits to start chopping up to put on top of the tart.
“I can leave if you really don’t want me here, you don’t have to lie and tell me it’s okay just because I’m the prince, I can tell I’m bothering you.” He mumbled and you finally brought yourself to look him in the eyes.
He looked upset. Your heart ached. You realized just how cold your actions must’ve come across to him, even though you hadn’t meant it that way at all.
“No! I promise you aren’t bothering me, really, I just… I’m not used to having someone back here with me watching me, especially someone like you.”
Much to your disappointment this didn’t seem to cheer him up, his face remained just as sad as it had looked a second ago.
“Someone like me?”
“You know, royalty. I work for your family after all, so it’s a bit nerve wracking for you to watch everything I do.”
“Oh…” His face softened a bit, and it seemed to you that he genuinely hadn’t considered that yet. “I’m sorry, but you really don’t have to be nervous, I won’t mind even if you mess something up. I promise I’m nice.”
You couldn’t help but smile at his words. He was a nice person, you knew that much already, if anything he could stand to be a bit more sure of himself. You felt bad that you’d hurt his feelings so easily by making him think he was being a nuisance.
“You are really nice, I can tell that much, I guess I just don’t really know you yet.”
“Well then what would you like to know about me? Ask away, I’m an open book.”
You looked at him with one eyebrow raised, wondering what you could even ask someone like him.
“Well, what’s it like being the prince?”
He frowned, obviously disappointed with your question. “Not great. Next question.”
Not great?
“Well what’s something you do like about it?”
He tilted his head to the side and pushed out his bottom lip a bit as he thought of an answer. You wondered if he did this on purpose, if he knew how adorable he was and liked to see you get all riled up because of him, but he seemed too oblivious for that to be the case.
After a few seconds his lips formed a wide grin and his eyes met yours. “The food.” He said.
That time you knew he saw you blush, and you even had to cover your mouth as a surprised laugh rolled off your lips.
“I’m just being honest, I don’t care about power and titles and all that, and I don’t need to live in a castle to be happy. I’m a simple man. But the food is a really nice bonus.”
“The cooks are really talented, I can see why you like that so much.” You said, now focusing back on the fruit you were chopping up.
“You too though, and sweets are my favorite.” He said, picking up a piece of strawberry you had just chopped to put on the tart and popping it into his mouth instead.
Your eyes traveled from his hand, as it grabbed the piece of fruit, to his face as he brought it to his perfectly smooth, pink, lips. You watched his face as he ate the strawberry, not realizing that you were once again staring.
“Is there something on my face?” He asked, with the cutest look of confusion on his face.
Somehow, you felt yourself blush even harder at that. “No, sorry, I just spaced out for a second.” You lied.
“Why is your face so red?”
“Is it?” You tried your best to act casual, quickly changing the subject. “So what do princes do in their free time?”
He made that same face again, the little pout that showed you he was thinking of an answer.
“Well, I like to get out of the palace. Take my horse out into the woods or through town, anything to get out and feel some fresh air and not be bothered. Or go on a walk through the gardens. I’ve seen you there a few times, by the way, reading.”
“Oh…” You didn’t quite know how to respond. You must’ve been so caught up in your books that you’d never noticed when he was there.
“I sometimes wondered who you were, but I didn’t want to bother you since you always seemed so invested in what you were doing.”
You felt another twinge of embarrassment, thinking about the romance novels you would sometimes spend hours totally consumed in.
“Well, next time you should come say hello if you see me.”
His cheeks and ears started to look like they were turning pink again, although you couldn’t understand why. He had looked down at the table, and one hand was scratching the back of his neck. He had paused. He almost looked a bit nervous.
“Y/n?”
“Yeah?”
“Can we be friends?”
His eyes finally looked up to meet yours and the pout on his face as he nervously waited for your response made you feel crazy. There was no way in hell you could look back at him when he looked like that and say no.
You put a small smile to your lips and nodded, and to your relief his face immediately lit up into a wide smile.
“Thank you, Creampuff.”
You rolled your eyes at the nickname.
“I have to come up with a stupid name for you too now that we’re friends you know.”
“Well, then I am greatly looking forward to what you can come up with.“ He said grinning, and taking another piece of fruit you’d just carefully sliced.
“If you eat all my fruit before it can go on top it’s not going to be much of a fruit tart!”
He was giggling hysterically now, making a show of it, grabbing several more pieces of fruit and holding them up in the air, out of your reach..
“That’s okay, the topping is the best part anyway.” He snickered as he brought another piece of your oh so painstakingly chopped fruit to his lips.
Was it a good idea to befriend the prince? Probably not, however you didn’t want to think too hard about that since it was too late now anyway.
You had a fruit tart to finish, so you dragged your mind back to the task at hand.
“Baekhyun, do you want to put the fruit on top? Or are you just going to eat all of it as is?” You teased, gesturing towards your still naked tart with the pile of chopped fruit next to it.
“Okay okay I guess I can put some on top too.”
You watched as he started arranging the variously shaped fruit pieces atop the tart, and you once again marveled at his hands.
“So do I get help, or do I have to figure this part out myself? You always make them look so pretty, I don’t think I have the same artistic touch you do.”
You smiled at the compliment, more than you probably should have. Something about this guy enjoying your work so much was just too good to be true.
You felt silly. So silly. Has it really been so long since you’d had an interaction with a cute boy that you simply couldn’t handle yourself? He had to notice by now. It had to be painfully obvious why you were so flustered, right?
At that point you were openly staring. Luckily for you, he was actually pretty focused on making the tart look nice, so he didn’t seem to notice your eyes on him. His fingers had a slight sheen to them from the juices from the fruit and it took everything in you to not grab his pretty hands and lick them clean yourself.
“So? Y/n?”
You hadn’t even answered his question yet and you were already off in a little daydream about him.
You were crazy. You took a deep breath, recomposing yourself for the nth time.
“I’d like to see what you come up with.” You said, trying to sound as playful as you possible with how hard your heart was beating.
He gave you a smirk that told you he had accepted your challenge. His focus went back to the table and he started carefully arranging and rearranging his work.
Then, he was finished. The last of the fruit had been placed atop the cream filled crust. It actually looked okay, you were even slightly impressed with his artistic vision.
“How did I do?” You heard his ask as he set down his finished creation and looked at you with a pleased grin. He took his bottom lip between his perfect teeth, looking at you with those familiar puppy eyes and you wanted to scream at how cute he looked right then.
“It looks really nice. Not how I would’ve done it, but pretty.”
“Well if I did it exactly how you do it I would just be copying you and you wanted to see what I could do so how could I possibly even think to do something so unoriginal?” He looked very pleased with your response.
“You wouldn’t be able to make it look like mine even if you did try to. You just don’t have that special touch.” You responded, surprising yourself with your teasing tone.
Baekhyun perked up at your words, raising an eyebrow at you.
“What? You said it yourself earlier.” He really had. But you knew he was ready to fight you about it now anyway.
“I just need more chances to prove myself, but I think I did pretty damn good just now for someone who hasn’t prepared his own food in his life ever.”
“You’re so spoiled.” You giggled, plucking a piece of fruit off the tart and placing it between your lips, keeping your eyes locked with his. You weren’t sure where this new surge of confidence was coming from, but you decided to just go with it.
“Hey! I can’t help who I was born as!”
“That doesn’t mean you aren’t still spoiled.”
“You’re so mean to me.” He whined, obviously just trying to get a rise out of you. Unfortunately it worked very well for him. His little pout when he pushed out his bottom lip and furrowed his brows ever so slightly, was almost too cute to handle.
“Yeah, but you’re still here with me for some reason. Now are you finally going to eat your tart?”
He’d once again gone all bashful on you, acting like you were somehow the one in charge here when his family basically owned you.
“Can you cut it?” The words rolled off his lips softly.
You nodded, grabbing the sharpest knife you had, and started cutting the tart into slices.
It immediately felt wrong. You realized you’d fucked up.
The filling was still too warm to cut. It wasn’t fully set. It would start oozing into a big puddle of fruit goo as soon as you’d touch it.
It was so obvious. Of course you shouldn’t have cut into it already. Of course it wasn’t ready yet. You knew that, but your mind had been elsewhere. It was a dumb, dumb mistake and you felt it start to chip away at the last bit of sanity you had left.
You closed your eyes, clenching your jaw as you made a second cut, but you knew you were only making matters worse. It was already ruined. You put your knife down and squeezed your eyes shut, trying to fight the tightness in your chest and the tears that were building in your eyes.
“Creampuff?”
The nickname just made it hurt more. The way he said it so softly was too cruel. You failed to suppress the sob that wracked through you and the tears flowed freely down your cheeks, which were now deeply tinted with your embarrassment.
“I’m sorry.” You choked out. “I messed it up. It’s ruined.”
“Huh?” The look on his face as he watched you cry could only be described as a combination of worry and panic.
He didn’t get it. It still looked fine. Before you could stop him he picked up a piece and you watched as the beautiful and delicious little project you’d spent all morning working on with him fell apart. His carefully arranged fruit topping was destroyed as the filing slowly sagged into the missing gap and his slice turned into a messy glob.
“Where are the spoons?”
You looked at him like he was crazy.
You watched as he picked up the two forks on the table. “I don’t think a fork is going to work for this, can you give me a spoon please?”
You were a wreck. You were crying, sobbing even, and here he was asking you for a spoon so he could try at least one pathetic bite of your fruit tart turned pudding mess.
“Y/n?” It was barely a whisper this time. “Why are you crying? I said it’s okay even if you mess up. I’m not mad at you.”
Swallowing your tears, you reached into a nearby drawer, grabbed hastily at its contents, and shoved a spoon into his hand.
It was huge. The kind of spoon that was usually used for mixing large salads. You didn’t even understand why you had such a monstrosity in your little bakery.
Baekhyun stared at the ridiculous instrument you had just thrust into his unsuspecting palm as you let out a few more sniffles.
Then he let out a loud laugh. “This thing?!” He thought it was hilarious. “Are you trying to fatten me up? You know my mom always told me that my good looks were the only good thing I have going for me, don’t go ruining that now. I can’t afford to get chubby.”
You let out a whine and opened the drawer again, this time paying better attention to what you were grabbing. You pulled out two normal sized spoons.
He watched as you set them down on the table and frowned when he saw how upset you still looked, despite his joking around. You didn’t touch your spoon, still too upset to want to try a bite of your mistake. He didn’t seem to care though, immediately scooping up a spoonful and taking a large bite.
He let out a pleased hum as he finished his bite. “I don’t understand why you’re so upset, this is still pretty amazing if you ask me, thank you so much for letting me make it with you.”
He genuinely seemed to not mind. He kept happily eating it. But you didn’t feel any better. This was your job, your thing, and he’d seen you make such a stupid mistake, and on just the second day he’d met you. It was embarrassing more than anything else. What if he thinks you’re bad at your job?
“I’m sorry.” You let out again quietly and this time he didn’t tease you or make a dumb joke. He looked concerned. When you felt a tear roll down your cheek, he looked scared.
“Why are you still crying?” He put his spoon down. He was rounding the table to walk to the other side, to where you were standing. Once he was standing directly in front of you he froze. He’d lifted one arm slightly, as if he was reaching out for you, but it quickly dropped to his side again. You took a shaky step back but he moved with you.
“I promise I’m not here to judge you, I just wanted some time with someone who’s nice to me for once. And the tart is still amazing. And I know everything else you make is amazing too, because I’ve been eating it for years.”
You made the mistake of looking up into his big brown eyes. His cute slightly droopy looking eyes that sat perfectly atop his smooth, round cheeks. The look he gave you was too sweet to bear. You let out another sob.
He turned towards the table. He grabbed your spoon, hastily taking a scoop and shoving it into your mouth before you even had time to react.
“See? It’s good. Really good. Who cares if it melted or whatever. That’s like, the least important part. It’s food. It’s supposed to taste good. And it tastes super fucking good.”
You chewed slowly as he spoke, still standing far too close for comfort. He watched as you ate with tear stained cheeks. When you swallowed his hand moved. He was reaching for your face. You felt his thumb lightly brush the corner of your mouth, removing the small drop of cream that had ended up there. He brought his finger back up to his lips and he licked off the bit of cream, eyes never leaving yours.
“Delicious.” He whispered.
Panic was setting in now. You couldn’t find it in yourself to cry anymore. You felt like you needed to escape. You couldn’t trust yourself to not make a fool of yourself right now, even more than you already had. The poor guy would probably never wanna come bake with you again. The thought of not spending time with him again like this hurt more than you expected it to.
You stared again, too taken aback by his actions to get any words out. He was closer now. You weren’t quite sure when he’d gotten so close, close enough that you could smell the lingering scent of sweet fruit on his breath.
He was right there, and he was staring right back at you, close enough to touch. Your mind was slowing down and you swore you saw his eyes flicker down to your lips, before he cleared his throat and took a step back.
“I’m sorry, I think I should go. The tart is amazing, really. Thank you again.”
He turned to leave, and the words left you before you had time to think about it. “Are you still going to come back?”
He turned back to look at you, a reassuring smile on his pretty face. “Of course, Creampuff.”

The Start of Something New // s.r.
spencer reid x reader
requested: nope! the first of seven (!!!) fics for my 2k writing challenge event!! I used the prompts “weddings” & “did you need something?”
summary: A wedding for a mutual friend might just be the start of something new for you.
word count: 2k
warnings: weddings, fluff
A/N: I LOVED writing this one so much! I’m kind of thinking about writing a second part to it, but i’m not sure yet. I’ve got a handful of other fics I’d rather get out beforehand. But if you want one, definitely let me know! I’d love to write more for spencer and I think it’d be really cute to show the progression of their relationship. Anyways, I hope you like this! & if you’d like to join the challenge, you can join up until this sunday!
“Oh wow, she looks gorgeous.” You whisper to Penelope, smiling when you catch sight of JJ’s smile.
She looks beyond happy to be marrying Will, and you couldn’t be happier for her. After what she’s been through, she deserves every moment of this.
“She does.” Penelope quietly coos, emotion overtaking her voice as she watches your guys’ friend.
“I can’t wait until your wedding day. I just know it’s going to be perfect.”
“My wedding day? Penelope, you’re dreaming.” You scoff, laughing at the idea. You couldn’t be any more single if you tried. Between this job and your deep-seated fear of abandonment, you have little ability to hold a relationship.
Sure, you’d love to have someone to come home to and to share yourself with, but the reality is that it’s not going to happen for a while. At least not until you do some serious work on yourself.
“I wouldn’t be so sure, muffin. I see the way you look at our young doctor.”
“Spencer?! No. You’re delusional now, Garcia.” You whisper-laugh, ignoring the light blush you can feel warming your cheeks.
“Am I though?” She retorts, giving you her knowing look before turning back to your friend as she makes her way down the aisle.
You shake your head, trying to ignore her as you turn your attention back to JJ, but you can’t help yourself from glancing towards Spencer.
You can’t deny that he’s cute in his own adorable way, but you wouldn’t say you're crushing on him or anything. He may fill your daydreams from time to time, but it doesn’t mean anything more than the fact that you spend a lot of time around him due to work and that you find him nice to look at.
Putting it out of your mind, you watch as JJ meets Will at the altar, both of them carrying bright smiles filled with love for the other. She really does deserve to be this happy.
It easily brings tears to your eyes as they say their vows, JJ herself getting watery eyes as Will slides the ring on her finger.
You can’t help but cheer as they’re finally allowed to kiss, both you and Penelope clinging to each other at the cuteness and overwhelming happiness of it all.
“Our girl is married, Penelope.” You sigh, pouting slightly although you couldn’t be happier.
“I know. It’s beautiful.”
“It really is. God, I’m so emotional right now.” You chuckle, carefully wiping at your watery eyes.
“How are you doing, momma?” Derek asks, his words directed at Penelope as he and Spencer join the two of you, his arm wrapping around her shoulders.
“We’re emotional.” She chuckles as she wipes at her eyes as well.
“We can see that.” Derek laughs, squeezing his arm around her, attempting to console her.
“Did you know, biologically the reason you are so emotional right now is due to your parasympathetic system?” Spencer starts, demonstrating his brilliance once again. You’re not complaining, though, as you actually enjoy hearing his random knowledge.
“Psychologically, however, your emotional state could be due to an unconscious perception of helplessness or it could be to show vulnerability, solicit sympathy, advertise trust, or the need for attachment.”
“Alright, mr. smarty-pants. Ladies in this state just want consolation, yeah?” Derek retorts, drawing a laugh from both you and Penelope.
“We’re fine. It’s just such a happy event.” You chuckle, wiping yet another stray tear from your eye.
“That it is, y/l/n. JJ deserves this.”
“She does. I’m actually going to go find her and congratulate her. If you’ll excuse me.” You smile, dipping out of the conversation.
~.~
You can’t help but smile as you look over the small crowd, all of them basking in the happiness of the night.
It’s been a couple hours now and you still can’t believe that one of your best friends is now married to the love of her life. She is definitely one of the lucky ones to have found such a love, and to have such a beautiful kid with him too. You can only hope that you’ll have this one day too.
Thinking about your own special day, you can’t help but recall your earlier conversation with Penelope. Are you really looking at Spencer that differently that others can notice?
Sure, Penelope seems to be more observant than others, but you must be looking at Spencer differently for her to even consider you liking him, right?
Let’s say that you did like him, it’s not like he feels the same back. You are just coworkers, teammates. Sure, you could be considered friends, but it’s not like you spend much time together outside of the office.
“Are you alright, y/n?” You hear Spencer ask, drawing you out of your thoughts.
“Hmm? Oh, yeah. Yeah.” You smile, nodding lightly as you take a sip of the champagne that Rossi brought out for the event. It’s honestly amazing how perfectly he put this together. You don’t think it could be better if anyone else did it.
“Are you sure? It’s just, you seem like you’re pretty distracted over here.”
“Yeah, I’m good. Just thinking about a few things. Nothing important, though.”
He nods lightly, clicking his tongue as he gently rocks back on his feet. You can’t help the little quirk of your lips, entranced by the fluffy-haired boy.
“I’m sorry, did you need something? Or were you just, uhm, checking on me?”
He laughs a bit, looking down at the ground as he attempts to hide a smile. Even now you can’t help but find him adorable. It’s just who he is.
“Sort of. I, uh, I was wondering if you’d like to dance? With me?” He questions, blushing lightly as he watches you for a reaction, finding himself relieved when a soft smile finds its place on your lips.
“I’d love to, Spence.”
At his smile, you feel your own lips quirking up more. You set your glass down, letting him lead you out to the makeshift dance floor, joining your teammates as they all dance with each other.
You see Penelope give you a smirk and you just roll your eyes, turning your attention to Spencer as he wraps his arm around you.
“You look really nice tonight, by the way.” He smiles as he spins you around to the music.
“Thank you! You look very nice yourself, Spence.”
At your compliment, you notice him flush, smiling giddily. He doesn’t say anything, however, and you take it as he’s just not sure what to say.
You dance to another song, smiling and laughing occasionally, before Rossi decides to cut in - which you happily let him do as he’s been a father figure for you since you joined the BAU.
“You know, you and Einstein look good together.” He starts, nodding towards Spencer who joined in a dance with Penelope.
“Do we?” You chuckle, smiling as he nods.
“The next wedding I put together better be yours, kid.”
You can’t help the small laugh that leaves your body as you shake your head.
“I’ll make sure to inform you whenever that may happen, Rossi. I think you’re good for another few years, though.”
“You better. Now let me show you how to dance, because watching you was an eyesore.” He jokes, earning a boisterous laugh from you as you slap his arm.
~.~
By the end of the night, you’ve spent far more time dancing than your feet would have liked, but you can’t complain. You managed to snag a dance with each of your teammates, including JJ, who couldn’t stop smiling.
You had indulged on Rossi’s phenomenal cooking, and you even happened to miraculously catch the bouquet - which had earned cheers and more teasing from the girls.
Now, at nearly 1 am, you were beyond ready to get home and go to bed. You had had a wonderful time, having a bunch of fun with everyone, but you were tired and there was no denying it.
“JJ!” You call, spotting her at the refreshments table grabbing a drink.
“Y/n! Hey, how are you?”
“Good. How are you, JJ? God, I can’t believe you’re married now. I’m so happy for you, though.” You smile, grabbing a small glass of water for yourself.
“Amazing. This has been so...perfect. I can’t believe Rossi did all of this for us.” She chuckles.
“I know, it’s been such a wonderful night. I think I’m going to head home though, okay? I’ve danced myself out.”
“Oh, absolutely! Get home and get some sleep. I am so glad you were able to spend the night with us and celebrate.”
“Of course, JJ! I wouldn’t have missed it. You have a good rest of the night, yeah? I’ll see you on Monday.” You beam, pulling her into a hug.
“See you on Monday. Good night, y/n.”
You hug her goodbye before making your way around to the rest of the team. You're wishing Penelope and Derek a good night when Spencer joins the three of you.
“Are you leaving?” He directs to you, noticing how you’re hugging Penelope.
“Yeah, I think so. I’m exhausted. I’ll see you on Monday, alright spence?”
“Wait, I-if you don’t mind, I think I’ll head out with you?” He suggests.
“Oh, sure. I’m just catching a cab, though.” You explain, wanting to make sure he wasn’t planning on just catching a ride with you.
“Perfect, I’ll join you.”
“O-okay . Well, I still need to find hotch and Rossi.”
“No problem. I’ll see you guys on Monday.” Spencer waves, wishing Derek and Penelope a goodnight.
“You too, pretty boy. Behave on the ride home, yeah?” Derek smirks, winking at the two of you.
You silently groan, rolling your eyes as Penelope smacks his arm but is laughing along with him.
Spencer nods awkwardly, looking more than confused, but he doesn’t say anything. Instead, he follows along behind you as you make your way through the small crowd to find hotch or Rossi.
“Spencer. Y/n. Are you heading out?” You hear hotch ask as you’re still trying to weave through the few guests still celebrating.
Pausing, you turn to find hotch and his guest - beth - smiling happily.
“Hotch. Yeah, We were actually trying to find you to say goodbye.” You smile, looking between him and Beth as she holds onto his arm gently.
“Ah, well I’ll see you both on Monday then. I’m glad you’ve stayed awhile.” He smiles, nodding politely at the both of you.
“Me too. It’s been wonderful, especially seeing JJ so happy. Rossi really did a wonderful job.”
“He certainly knows how to throw a celebration together. Have a good night, both of you.”
“You too, hotch. Beth, it’s been wonderful to meet you.” You smile, nodding politely as Spencer says his goodbyes.
You eventually find Rossi, wishing him a goodnight and talking for a few moments while Spencer finds Emily and JJ. Within a few minutes, though, you’re both making your way down Rossi’s driveway, laughing lightly as you stumble in your heels.
“Do you want to take those off?” Spencer questions, steadying you as you stumble a little more.
“When I get home. A cab should be here soon, Rossi called one for us.”
“Sounds good. Thank you for letting me catch a ride with you.”
“Anytime, Spence. Having you come with actually makes me feel safer taking a cab this late at night.”
“I’m glad?” He chuckles, not really sure what to say to that.
“You really do look nice tonight, y/n.” He compliments after a moment.
“Thank you. I don’t get to dress up often, but it’s kind of fun.”
“You’re good at it.” He mumbles, but you hear him, a shy smile finding its way onto your face.
All this time you thought that he couldn’t possibly like you as anything more than a friend, but here he is saying things like this. You can’t help but wonder if maybe he does like you.
As the cab pulls up, however, and he opens the door for you, helping you in before getting in himself, you don’t mind finding out if there is a possibility that you could be walking down the aisle soon enough. You especially don’t mind as he carefully interlinks your hands in the middle of the backseat, after motioning for you to rest your head on his shoulder upon seeing you yawn.
Maybe, just maybe, the rest of the team knows what they’re seeing between the two of you that you had failed to notice before now.

mama <3
Majima with a crush who has a personality that reminds him a lot of Makoto. Just overall the same innocence, softness, and fragility. 👁️👁️ Can't hold a grudge, can't hurt a fly, literally never gets angry, cries a lot, and is super caring of him 😭 They're in a "situationship" if u will, bc they're both clearly in love with one another BUT NO ONE IS SAYING ANYTHING ABOUT IT BC THEY BOTH HAVE TRASH EXPERIENCES WITH ROMANCE
"Goro, i got u this crucifix so the Lord can protect u on ur errands."
Hehe yesssss brain go brr. Also, as a note, I'm going to switch it from a crucifix to an amulet as I want everyone to enjoy these headcanons and I don't want it to just be specific to one religion. Amulet charms are a pretty common thing in Asia so hopefully that switch isn't too jarring for you (I have a couple of them myself, mostly for luck at school when I was still in college lol). Anyways, details below the cut!
It makes sense for Majima to have a partner that is actually the opposite of him. In fact, it suits him and he really likes it. Is he just projecting his feelings for Makoto? He'll never tell so don't ask.
Truthfully, he knows the answer is totally yes. Makoto wasn't his first love but it was definitely...something. Meeting you reminded him not necessarily of Makoto but the way it felt to actually feel something about someone else. Majima's no stranger to flashbacks or daydreams about what used to be Makoto but with you, it's different. You don't remind him of her; you remind him of fond memories.
Majima isn't great at hiding his curiosity and he starts coming onto you pretty quickly. It happens so fast that you both declare it to be a situationship more than anything, but anyone who has ever seen the two of you together can see right through your act. The truth is that both of you want to take the plunge but are just too shy to take the first step. The both of you find yourself in "No, YOU hang up first" situations way too often.
Eventually, Majima's feelings evolve from nostalgia to just having actual attachment to you. He's not getting a hit of what used to be anymore, now it's transformed into something he wants to happen. Because of this, he slowly starts opening up. He lets you baby him, he doesn't deflect as much when you ask how he's doing, he starts wishing you good mornings and good nights. It's surprising to him just as much as it is to you.
Majima knows you have your own history to deal with. Both of you actually feel a little relaxed knowing that there's a mutual understanding of what it's like to go through those difficult experiences. Slowly but surely, you find yourself no longer as lonely on those nights when the memories are just too heavy to bear. Instead, you find yourself sitting next to Majima, his arm wrapped around you, telling you he understands and for once it doesn't feel like a hollow statement said out of pity because you know it's true; he DOES understand.
Even though you don't have an official relationship label, the two of you have fallen into the habit of functioning like longtime lovers. It's the little things: good mornings and good nights, asking Majima if he's eaten yet, him asking you if you slept well. He comes to you on his hardest days, knowing he can be safe with you, that you'd never judge him, never yell at him.
On the flip side, he thinks it's totally adorable when you cry, which you do easily. It's not that you're actually sad, you just have a big heart. You see a mom and daughter out together and you get a little misty eyed at how cute they are. At a cat cafe, you cry from happiness. Sappy movies make you sob. Majima might tease you but in reality, he admires how tender your heart is. He thinks being vulnerable is actually the greatest strength of all.
Majima loves how doting you are. You're very much a look-both-ways-before-crossing-the-street person whereas Majima isn't and his heart skips a beat when you say things like "Watch your step" or "Be careful". No one's ever thought Majima was delicate by any means and because of it, he's felt he's had to appear invincible. Majima's always had something to lose but he never imagined he'd be something that someone else was afraid to lose. It warms his heart to the point he could cry but he won't, instead he'll just shower you with kisses.
One of Majima's favorite memories is when you gave him that protection amulet. At first, Majima was confused, saying "Oi, what's this 'bout?" but you insisted, saying "Goro, I got you this so I know you're protected wherever you go." and that's when Majima realized just how serious you were about him and how serious he was about you. Now, he carries the charm with him everywhere, feeling for it in his pocket whenever he feels unsteady or scared, knowing he's got you to fight for, to look after, to come back to.

I have a question for you! Just a simple one really. What's something that you know you do differently than most people? I'm curious because what you answer would be. (Or another question if you don't want to do this one: What are you most grateful for?) - ⚜️
Hmm, interesting questions! I'll answer them both for you!
Something I know I do differently from most people: It's hard to tell what's going on in everyone's mind or their daily life, so idk if these things are actually things that most people don't do lol, but I'll still say them
If I have a plate of food, I eat the parts I like the least first, and save my favorite for last
As for my writing, I think this is pretty different, but I write out a basic draft using bulletpoints first, then I go through and fill in with more details or rearrange some things. I can't write out a full story and post it like that, there's always something I have to change
I daydream everywhere. I used to go to this park when I was younger and at the time I was super obsessed with One Direction (lol) and I'd have very vivid daydreams while swinging on a swing, of a tour bus stopping by the park and the 1D boys coming out and inviting me on tour with them NFJEKAFJN
Even now though, I still daydream at work. I was laughing to myself because I fully pictured this cute scenario with Bakugou and I full on started giggling to myself 💀
Something I do different on tumblr: I'm nice (I hope). I've seen so many blogs who only care about their mutuals. Like they only do certain events for their mutuals and only act friendly towards them and I never understood that. It always discouraged me from even sending them an ask, even though I was on anon, because I felt like I didn't belong. I want to give love to everyone whether they're my moot or not, so I hope everyone feels welcome to speak to me on my blog! Let me know if there's anything I can do to make you feel more comfortable talking to me :D
These are probably all generic I'm sorry. I can't really think of anything more specific FJKEABF
AS FOR WHAT IM THANKFUL FOR;
I'm thankful firstly to God for getting me this far in everything; He's the one that pushed me to start this blog and actually share my writing with people. He brought me the most comfort after my aunt passed away last year, He brought my job opportunity to me at the most perfect moment, and He's helped me out of my most darkest days so definitely very thankful for Him.
I'm of course thankful for my parents who helped raise me (though I am very different from them) but they supported me financially and to this day my dad still helps me out whenever I need it
I'm thankful for my friends, especially my friend Tay who brought me back to my faith. Her and I were destined to meet NFEOAF and I can't wait to meet her in person one day! But also my friend Melissa, who has been with me since 10th grade and stayed by my side when I unfriended my ex-bff who we were mutual friends with. She supports me so much, no questions asked and I know she's someone I can go to for anything and she'll drop everything to help me out
I'm thankful to have a job and a decent income
Thankful to have a car so I don't have to ride a train for 2 hours to get to work
and lastly, IM THANKFUL FOR ALL OF YOU; this past year has been incredible because of you guys (especially this past week). I love how understanding you all are even though I'm sure it's frustrating that I have over 100 requests, but I keep doing events and other things in between, but I'm thankful you're all still around. I've been extra happy this week though because more of you are reaching out to me through my asks just to talk or to ask me questions like this and it makes me feel like we're all really close friends (even though I do already consider you all my friends. OR EVEN FAMILY, this blog is our own little family)
There we go. Thank you again for the questions, I love stuff like this <3

Huang Renjun catches a glimpse of your enchanting figure across the lecture hall and how you effortlessly slide into your usual seat near the front. The tap against the tiny turnout table with your pen, ruffling your hair to only have it fall back in place beautifully, and aura alone suffocates him.
In a three hundred person lecture, all he sees is you. The only person in the room who has his undivided attention and while it might be entirely infatuation by your attractiveness, the mutual friends you two share describe you having a heart of gold.
A heart that is impenetrable. Strong, sturdy, shining metal that no one has been able to get through, but Renjun thinks that it’s because you can tell someone is undeserving. Keen and observant eyes, it’s a good thing that his stares don’t linger for long.
As he walks down the descending steps to sit in the row behind you, he remembers a very drunk night over the past weekend and an idiotic bet that has him punching himself. He wishes that he never agreed, but the liquid pride in him could not bite his tongue.
“(Y/N)?” His friend scorns and Renjun slaps his forehead at the slip of your name. Truthfully, the alcohol is messing with his head and he’s saying things that are no longer in his control. But how could he have possibly let the one secret he holds to himself out into the small crowd.
He mumbles profanities underneath his breath, trying to limit light from hurting his blurry vision, and rubbing his throbbing temples. “Yes, (Y/N).” There is no confidence in his voice at the whisper of your name.
“Dude, (Y/N) is way out of your league.” The headache just doesn’t have an end. He knows this; there is no way you’d ever bat an eyelash at him first. Renjun just likes things that are impossible to him, a poor habit of his.
“I bet I could get (Y/N) to get with me first before you ever can.” Then, Renjun’s eyes shoot open wide and the view of the arrogance laughing in the dimness slowly boils his blood.
Renjun may seem like the weaker link to pick on, but he is not one to give up a fight. While his friend has an advantage, the last thing Renjun would want is for you to fall for a horrendous two faced personality.
He’ll charm your pants off and when he gets what he wants: the victory and your vulnerability, he’ll hurt you. Would you be able to see past his fake genuineness or actually fall for the person he plays so well? Renjun can’t let anyone hurt you if he can prevent it.
“I bet that I can get (Y/N) to fall in love with me.” Renjun stumbles to stand up proudly, making himself bolder and more intimidating. Nevertheless, the drowsiness intoxicates him and he can barely keep his line of vision focused.
He sees the disgusting smirk on his friend’s face and a hand extends out for Renjun to shake. “Okay. Let’s bet on it. If you can’t get (Y/N) to fall in love with you, they’ll be mine and you can’t speak to them ever again.”
“Nice use of claiming someone who barely knows you exist.” The alcohol didn’t take away Renjun’s sharp sarcasm and the constant rolling of his eyes.
Renjun truly has no confidence at the game he decided to engage in, his only motive is to protect you from a bad guy. He wouldn’t even know how to handle the potential chance that you could like him back, did you have the ability to do so?
He never had the intention to confess to you, his heart has been broken all too much already by unrequited loves from his past. And if he had to be honest with himself, his admiration for you has become so strong that even he’s afraid to be someone to taint it.
What are the odds that the entire row behind you is already filled? Renjun’s throat closes when he sees the empty seat right next to you and the professor starting up his presentation. Other students push past him to hurry into empty seats before lecture begins, and his own feet pick him up toward you.
Like a magnetic pull, you attract him with an inexplicable force so naturally. Clearing his throat, he swallows the anxiousness that blocks him from speaking.
“Is this seat taken?”
This is it. This is the first of many looks you two will share, and Renjun’s heart pounds at his chest to wait for your eyes to meet his own for more than a second.
As if the room falls silent and everything is in slow motion, Renjun captures the very image when you blink up at him with beautiful dazzling gentleness and the utter sugar of your lips curling upwards. And he’s stunned, hoping it doesn’t show on his face.
“No.” It’s a simple reply and nothing worth jumping out of joy about, but he tries so hard to hold back the growing smile of your acknowledgement. You are being polite, but something inside of him feels giddy and like static running through his veins.
“Thanks.” Dropping his bag, he enters the seat carefully and sits with his hands folded together on the tiny table.
You examine the attentive boy, as his focus is trained on the lecture slides and the unprepared professor messing with his mic. Chuckling, “you don’t take notes?”
Renjun is surprised at your sudden interaction, completely blindsided by your friendliness. He wasn’t sure how well that would have worked, but your curiosity speaks for you. “I actually forgot my laptop today.” The heavy device sits in his bag at his feet, but he doesn’t dare take it out after the lie.
The soft ‘oh’ that falls from your mouth is too cute and Renjun clears his throat to bring him back from his daydreams of you. Looking apologetic, he shrugs and pretends to gear his attention back to the professor, who finally starts the long awaited class.
“I can send you my notes for the day, if you’d like.” The kindness in your voice does not go unnoticed, in fact, it causes Renjun to hold onto it for a little longer to fuel his undying crush for you.
“I’d love that—” Perhaps he shouldn’t have used the word love for the strictly friendly gesture. “—you’re a lifesaver. Uh, how should I refer to you as?” Playing dumb is his only way to get to you, for now.
“(Y/N). And you?” You hand your phone toward him with social media popped up to input his user handle.
Renjun introduces himself as his sweaty fingers type, and he wonders if he should have polished up any photos that may have you steering away from him. However when he returns your device, the smile that lights up your face allows him to breathe easily.
“I knew you sounded familiar. You’re friends with Jaemin, right?” Your whisper grows soft as you multitask to make conversation and jot down a few important bullet points from the slides. Renjun tries hard to dissect the information as well, but the boring tone of his professor is nothing compared to his crush finally having conversation with him.
“We’re housemates along with two other people.” His body is able to relax now that he’s broken the wall of introductions. You carry yourself to be more intimidating than you actually are.
When he peeks back over at your concentrated expression, your lip is hidden by your top row of teeth and your quick eyes dart between the monitor and your page. How are you so good at literally everything?
“A small world.” He picks up your every word, “well Renjun, since this class has basically ruined my life, would it be too much to ask if you’re down to study with me?” And despite the fluorescent lights being absolutely dull, they still dust your eyes with an enticing glitter.
He must have been staring for too long because you start your sentence of doubt, but Renjun stammers over his response. The professor isn’t quite happy with the small overlap of chatter and shoots a glare at the two of you.
That’s definitely not a good way to start, but it’s memorable. Renjun motions for your pen, and scribbles in his own font the answer to your offer:
I’d love that :)
Then, his heart soars back into the clouds once again at the grin that settles and your written response:
Me too <3
How does one get someone to fall for them? If Renjun knew, he wouldn’t still be single and infatuated with someone too good for him. He wishes that it’s as simple as the myths make it out to be, where all Cupid had to do was draw his bow and launch a loving arrow that pierces through the heart — an instant love.
But playing Cupid himself is harder than anticipated. He has no handy tools to assist him with his goals. He just has himself, lacks luster and is invisible. Can he be more painfully boring?
And he looks at you with literal hearts in his eyes. An excitement that awaits him, the true meaning of a head turner. That is you. And all he can offer is his mere presence.
“So how did you and Jaemin meet?” Looking up from your blinding laptop screen, Renjun feels the light tap underneath the table from your foot. He chuckles at the subtly adorable affection, and your own way of showing it.
This has to be the third round of study sessions you two shared, and bit by bit, he falls more and more for you despite it needing to be the other way around. The captivating get-to-know you conversation of favorites all down to your aspirations and goals.
The intelligence of you, your wisdom, your perspective. While he did not have this insight before, knowing it now only makes you more alluring. He can’t believe you’re even sitting with him in his shared living room, just the two of you.
“We met at orientation. He’s persistent.” Renjun laughs lightly and you smile in return, nodding along with his statement.
“Wish I met you guys at orientation. I was never the one to reach out to people first until college forced me out of my shell.” He hopes his ears didn’t deceive him, but Renjun had to do a double take: you said you guys, which includes him, right? You wish you had met him earlier?
But the latter shocks him a bit. If he recalls your first meeting, you were the one curious enough to continue speaking to him. “I would have never guessed.”
“Really?” There is a notable light in your eyes as you tilt your head. “I don’t seem shy?”
“Not at all…” He has to stop himself from going on an incredible tangent about how greatly outspoken you are, it gives away too much on how observant he’s been.
“I’m good at hiding it then.” You examine the soft shade of pink on the tips of his ears and his averting shy gazes. “What are you good at hiding?”
Your question leaves him speechless and gripping at any ends of answers. There are a number of ways he can go about it, but the truth is not one of them.
What is he good at hiding? His unconditional affection for you. He’s good at concealing every heavy heart beat at your smallest actions. He’s good at keeping a regretful secret bet.
But as those options pop into his head, he doesn’t want to say any of them. So, he opts for a white lie instead and hopes that the hesitation doesn’t sell him out for being a nervous wreck.
“I’m good at hiding what I fear.” You blink at him, clearly intrigued to want to know more.
“You do seem pretty fearless, Huang Renjun.” There is a brief exchange of eye contact and Renjun swears that his pounding heart can be heard in the silence. A smirk on your lips as you return to your work, he’s warm inside from the usage of his full name. And you don’t even realize the effect you have over him.
“So, you and (Y/N) are close. How did that start?” Jaemin jumps onto Renjun’s neatly made bed. The covers are now ruffled and tossed from the impact.
Jaemin isn’t home very often, but in the rare times he has been, it’s always during the study sessions with you. The first time you came over, Jaemin tried not to talk up a storm from seeing a familiar face. He respects Renjun’s relationships, so he tried his best to keep from prying at the boy.
“You finally want to know?” Renjun scoffs lightheartedly, punching his housemate lightly on the shoulder as he swivels around in his chair. With an excited wide smile, Jaemin tugs at his friend’s arm as an endearing sign of persistence. “Okay, okay. We have the same class.”
“(Y/N) really approached you in a three hundred student lecture?” A tone of disbelief settles in Jaemin’s rhetorical question. He cocks an eyebrow, waiting for Renjun to tell some truth.
“Not exactly. I sat next to them and a conversation just happened.” Renjun shrugs as if it’s nothing big, as if it hadn’t been for your curiosity that started this blossoming relationship.
“Spare me the details.” Jaemin sits up to hold Renjun by his shoulders. The pressure feels oddly crushing, like a whole weight dropping on him. Jaemin stares him dead in the eyes. “What are your motives, Huang Renjun?”
His mouth hangs slightly open from the question. “I can’t be friends with (Y/N)?” Almost defensively, Renjun furrows his eyebrows at his friend, but he can tell Jaemin has caught onto his lie.
“I heard that you made a bet with a certain shithead.” Jaemin rolls his eyes at remembering their horrible mutual, a crime to even consider him as a friend. He drops his heavy hands from Renjun’s shoulders and falls back onto the mattress.
The alarming expression of grave danger, Renjun is screwed. He gulps the gathered saliva in the back of his mouth, searching for a plausible explanation. “I was drunk.” He slaps his forehead at the stupid reasoning as Jaemin shoots upright to begin scolding him.
“Let me explain,” Renjun covers his mouth to halt Jaemin’s excessive nagging. “I like (Y/N), that’s how the bet even came alive. I slipped up and then he was saying all this stuff about (Y/N) being out of my league.”
“Which is true.” Jaemin adds, quite muffled but doesn’t slip past Renjun.
Renjun glares and thanks him sarcastically. “I made the bet to protect (Y/N) from him. He was provoking me by saying that he can get (Y/N) first and since I was heavily intoxicated, I didn’t think before I spoke.”
Jaemin holds Renjun warmly, seeing that his friend needed a hug from the saddened memory. It’s all too obvious how regretful Renjun feels. “So I’m trying my best at carrying the bet because there’s too much at stake.”
A chill runs down his spine remembering the consequences. He just can’t fail. Jaemin pulls away and lightly pats Renjun’s hair. “Cupid has made you into a fool for your crush.”
“He’s made me into a bigger one for thinking I could get my crush to like me back.” Renjun sighs in defeat and groans loudly. Why does this frustrate him so much? Perhaps it’s the lack of ability to actually get someone to like him back.
Renjun has been single for his entire life, not by choice. He’s done the movie cliches of a confession: a bouquet of roses, a poster, a night under the stars. And not one has ever accepted his feelings. He doesn’t blame any of them since he still struggles with finding things to love about himself. What is there to love about him? He can’t seem to find any redeeming qualities worth mentioning.
But you. You, alone, is simply worth an honorable mention. And now that it’s been well over a month of your friendship, he can confirm that you’re everything he’s ever wanted and more.
“Why don’t you start by being (Y/N)’s friend first? Love doesn’t just happen in an instant, no offense to Cupid or anything. I mean.. isn’t it all just a myth anyways?” Jaemin picks Renjun’s falling chin and he can see the glossy eyes of sadness. They swim with frustration and guilt.
Like an epiphany, Jaemin gave Renjun a starting place. For weeks, Renjun racked his brain for an easy solution out of it all. In reality, he didn’t need any wicked form of magic for foul play. He just wants to be by your side for as long as you allow. And a part of him is scared for you to like him back.
You’ve always been too out of his reach. Standing on a pedestal, you’re something unattainable. It’s lucky that you even bat an eyelash at him. He’s admired you all too much, Renjun won’t actually know what to do if you ever did like him back.
This all stems from his inner insecurities, like a recurring thought: what is there to like about him? Or is he even good enough for you?
If someone had warned him that love could become this confusing, he would’ve sacrificed his heart for something less complicated. To feel. To love. Renjun wishes he can remove the love bow that pierced through his chest.
On a random Friday night, Renjun’s phone rings with an unexpected caller ID. He pauses the song he’s been listening to for the past hour to pick up.
“Renjun! I’m sad and drunk right now.” Your voice is incredibly slurred and he can barely hear you with the loud background noise. “Can you come pick me up?”
“Are you over on Third Ave. again?” He despises that place. A house on the corner of Third Avenue right off the interstate from campus that throws weekly parties. These parties are overcrowded with creeps and cheap booze. Unfortunately, you’re favorite place to run away to.
This isn’t his first time coming to get you. Over the past few months of your established friendship, you’ve sent him numerous amounts of drunk texts calling for him. This is the first time you actually called, preluding to a really rough night you’ve been having.
You sigh into the receiver, “you remembered.” like you’re on the verge of tears, he can hear the quiver in your tiny voice.
“I have your location, idiot.” Renjun smiles at your silly drunk reactions, finding you more enduring from the innocence. “I’ll be there in a blink.”
“Okay, I’ll close my eyes so I can open them to you.” You giggle before hanging up and Renjun can’t keep the widest grin off of his face. He’s rushing out his door, not wanting to wait another second to see you.
One thing Renjun realized after finally growing close enough to you is that through all his infatuation, you’re still a human. While he thinks of you in a sparkling cascading glitter waterfall, you’re made of the same softness that Renjun has. You’re not perfect and he needed to stop idolizing you as if you’re some shiny trophy.
No, he’s learned that he needed to love you for who you truly are. And the moment he broke down your layers, the glass tears that fell from your cheeks were real. The pain through your confident façade, Renjun needed to love you at your lowest.
He saw you for you, not the attractive person from his lecture he drooled months over. You are the exact reality that movies are afraid to portray. You’re courageous, chic, charming. But you’re also shy, soft spoken, and silly. You’re like waking up during dawn and marveling in the silence of a sleeping society. You’re also like smiles on a sunny day and living in the moment.
Renjun is lovestruck, wildly in love with all that you are. The only thing that brings down his spirits is the lingering bet he made several months ago and he hates how it’s always gnawing at him. It’s like an echo, bouncing off the walls of his mind. He can’t shake it off. Most of the time, he tries to focus the moment in front of him, but it has him tossing and turning in the middle of the night.
Without much surprise, you stand in front of the overflowing party house with eyes cutely squeezed shut. A friend by your side to wait with you. “Open your eyes.” Renjun yells as windows roll down and he double parks the car.
Your eyes gleam in the darkness and bidding your friend a quick goodbye, you jump into the familiar vehicle and embrace your good friend with a longing hug. Renjun chuckles at your adorable actions, patting your shoulder lightly. Despite the cheerful welcome, the mood immediately shifts when he hears your tiny sniffs and feels the tears on his shirt.
“C’mon, your favorite ice cream flavor is waiting for you at my place.” As he whispers positive affirmations, you can only cry harder into his chest. “You’re not feeling too good tonight, are you?”
It’s way too obvious of a question to ask, he knows. Truthfully, he didn’t know what to say and comforting is not his strongest skill without it turning it into a life lesson. He knows what you need, just someone to acknowledge how you’re feeling and to listen.
“I’m feeling the worst tonight. I don’t want to talk about it. Maybe later?” You pull away from his arms, even if he isn’t ready to let you go. He helps buckle your seatbelt and wipe any remaining wetness on your cheeks.
Your hand briefly touches Renjun’s which causes the boy to freeze at the sudden action. Your hazy smile is unclear, but you lean into him before he can process all the randomness. A kiss on his cheek, the most delicate feeling of lips on skin.
Renjun explodes inside, like hazardous fireworks on a cloudy night. He wants to enjoy it, but his circumstances make it difficult for him to. “Thanks for coming to get me.” Your body slumps back onto the seat, a pout on your lower lip. Renjun shifts awkwardly in his seat, buckling his seatbelt to begin the ride home. He can’t find the words to say.
You’re being too casual about what had just happened, as if you’re ignoring it all. Or you simply have no control over anything that you’re doing. “Let me tell you a secret, Injunie.” The sugarcoated nickname. You’re definitely too drunk at the moment, and whatever you do now will be long forgotten the next morning.
Renjun still doesn’t say anything, relishing in the kiss on the cheek just seconds ago. His fingers lightly touch his face, grazing upon the very part your lips came in contact with. He’s truly through the moon and— “I used to have the biggest crush on Jaemin.” Renjun abruptly steps on the brakes, whipping the both of you in your seats.
His heart is falling, it’s plummeting and he can’t do anything to save it. “I really didn’t expect such a surprised reaction.”
Renjun clears his throat. “I’m just caught off guard.” Not a lie, he really wasn’t expecting a confession and his heart to break right at this moment. “Why Jaemin?”
He knows why Jaemin. He’s a social butterfly with no caution to the wind and a heart made of pure kindness. A welcoming friendly figure that won’t hesitate to feed into someone’s need for words of affirmation. Not to mention, Jaemin has a good few inches above him and looks of a poster kpop idol. Of course, you liked Jaemin.
“He has such a good heart. I guess I just like guys who think of me first, as selfish as that sounds. I don’t prioritize myself, so it would be nice if someone else did.” You fiddle your thumbs and Renjun is impatiently tapping his fingers against the wheel.
The red traffic light before you enacts two different feelings. Renjun wants this ride to end as fast as possible. You want this ride to last forever.
“But, Jaemin is seeing someone.”
Your head ducks down and out the window at the shining streetlamps; you know very well about Jaemin’s love life. “I didn’t expect anything from him. I just liked him for him. He came to pick me up every time I would ask, I guess I have a thing for guys who do that.”
Renjun tightens his grip, heart pounding at your statement. You peer up to look at your friend in the lack of light. His glasses sit low on his nose bridge, a soft cotton shirt hugs his torso, and pajama pants that clad his legs. A mess bed of hair as the cherry on top.
After Jaemin, you swore to yourself that you wouldn’t fall for anyone so easily. All of that was thrown out the window the very first night Renjun came to your saving. Despite contrary belief, your heart is not as impenetrable as people make you out to be. And as tough as you can be, it was too hard not to be the slightest interested in him.
Ever since your first meeting, Renjun has always been cool and collected. He’s a hothead at his best, but too playful for any serious damage. Renjun reminds you of yourself. Like a huge impenetrable wall built against any trouble to enter, he is as guarded as you are. He’s timid, and while you had tried your best to hide your own, Renjun simply embraces that part of him.
Renjun stayed after every tearful night. He’s helped you through every difficult study guide, if anything he saved your failing grade.
Renjun puts you first throughout anything; asking if you want the booth seat at restaurants, strategically walking on the outer side so you can avoid driving cars, always has your favorite snacks without you asking. Every tiny gesture, may you be slightly delusional, seemed as if he loved you. And if he did, you wouldn’t mind one bit because you wanted to love him back.
“What about you? We’ve never really talked about our love lives before.” You speak up in the silence, Rejun being awfully quiet tonight. He hopes you don’t blame him, but everything has been too overwhelming. He is no longer sure on what he wants to do or how to react.
“My love life is too sad to talk about.” He’s never wanted to talk about it with you, in case he’d slip up and say something too revealing. “It’s a long list of unrequited loves. I’ve given up on professing my feelings to someone at this point.”
“What would have to happen to get you to confess?” Your eyes coin a mischievous twinkle.
Renjun feels his palms grow sweaty, a bit nervous with this conversation topic.
“Something catastrophic.”
Something catastrophic did end up happening. Renjun wishes he could disappear, or if he runs away, would anyone notice?
He stands behind your fuming stance. In any other given situation, Renjun would be more than flattered that you’re standing up for him. However in this case, you’re making a fool out of yourself on his behalf.
“Oh, so you haven’t told (Y/N) about the bet?” Of all the nights Renjun decides to accompany you on a Friday evening, he runs until the one person he never wanted to come within ten feet to.
Truthfully, the night was going well. He ran into a few of his other acquaintances from his club, others from his classes. You held onto his arm the moment you two entered the party, afraid to lose this precious boy in the dense crowd. People walked by and expressed how cute you two looked together.
You poured him drinks that will make his head throb and you busted dance moves that made his heart throb. You were the epitome of a fun time, like an explosion of positive endorphins. Your toothy smiles. Your bright electrified eyes. Your sweet laughter. This was the last beautiful image he had of you before everything came falling apart.
“What bet?” You quickly turn around to face Renjun. His hand scratches the back of his neck and his gaze stays staring at his own feet. Your throat grows tight from Renjun’s hesitation.
“He made a bet with me that he could get you to fall in love with him.” Please stop talking, Renjun begs in his thoughts. He tightens his fist, unable to form words to speak. The thumping of the loud music makes it hard to focus.
“He—” Shaky voice and stuttering… even you are having doubts of Renjun’s character. “He wouldn’t do that.” Your eyes bounce between him and Renjun.
“I hate to be the one to break it to you, but you don't know him very well then.” Renjun’s arrogant friend crosses his arms coolly, a smug smirk unfolding on his face.
“It’s true, (Y/N). I did make the bet and I regret it every waking day.” Renjun finally speaks up, but you’re out the door before he can continue.
There isn’t another thought in his head when he’s running after you; you’re already so far down the road. The secret was bound to be revealed, but he wasn’t ready for it. He was never going to be ready for this day because his first mistake was making the bet to begin with.
He should have thought about you. He should have just swallowed his pride and talked his friend out of it. Was that a choice? Could he have just done that instead of letting it fester into such a problem?
Out of breath and out of mind, Renjun calls out your name. When you spin on your heels to walk toward him, his heart reaches for you. However, you push at his chest and he almost falls backwards.
You’re angry, more than angry. You’re upset. You have every right to be. “What were you thinking, Renjun?” There is a small crack in your voice and he can see your tear stained cheeks under the moonlight. “Am I even your friend? All this time… you had an agenda. Were your actions all fake, then? You wanted to manipulate me into falling in love with you?”
Your words are hitting like large bricks. You are questioning the past five months of your friendship and everything Renjun has ever done for you. A false reality, Renjun didn’t actually give a damn about you. He wanted to prove some odd male status. Could you be any more blind?
“Please let me explain… I was drunk out of my mind that night and the bet I made was stupid. It was before proper evaluation. Does it make it okay? No, I understand that.” Renjun speaks with his hands, clearly panicked and frazzled by the way they waved around in the air. “The bet… I did it to protect you from that guy. I didn’t want him to hurt you.”
“So you hurt me instead?” If someone were to listen closely, they would be able to hear the shattering of two hearts tonight. On this late evening, two hearts are broken under the moon and stars.
But it’s pitiful because the arrow that struck Renjun remains intact. He still loves you, which is why it pains him so much to where he can’t breathe. The information in his head is scattered, like an alarm blaring through his empty brain.
All he knows is that he loves you. You are the one thing he’s afraid of losing. From the first words you two exchanged, his fear that he hid all too well is and always will be losing you.
“That was not my intention ever. I never wanted to hurt you.” Renjun takes a step closer, but you take one back.
“Well you did because your little bet… it worked. I love you, Renjun, so congratulations.” There is bitterness and an inexplicable amount of heartbreak that lace your venomous confession.
All of his life, he thought that if one person liked him back, he’d be the happiest person in the world. Possibly confused at how to proceed with the information, but definitely glad that someone could see any redeeming characteristics in him.
But he feels all the opposite. Your confession keeps his heart broken. If anything, it puzzles him more. “How..? Why would you ever like me?” There were no tricks, no attempts at flirtation, nothing out of bounds of being your friend. He just had himself. And if anyone in the universe were to like him, he’d never expect it would be you.
You groan, growing more infuriated at Renjun. “Because you’re everything I wish I could be. You’re level-headed and insightful. You’re calm and cool, without any necessary arrogance. The way you make me feel… I feel important to you, at least, I thought I was.” Your voice continues to drop softer and softer, “how could I not like you?”
The butterflies could not come at a better time. Hearing you compliment him when he found it difficult to look past his own self deprecation, he’s beyond any levels of shock. Nevertheless, he feels apologetic and knew that this is all too good to be true.
“I’m sorry, (Y/N), for making that terrible bet. But, I need you to know one thing: our friendship was genuine. All I’ve ever wanted these past months is to make sure your sweet smile stays resting on your beautiful face.”
“Why? You didn’t know me! You used me for some … pride gamble. I was nothing to you the day you made that bet.” You shout harsh words at him, and Renjun can’t hold back any longer.
This is what he meant by something catastrophic. When he’s pushed to the edge of a cliff, all his buttons are pressed aggressively. Everything falling apart. The loose ends coming undone all too quickly to grapple. He never wanted it to come to this.
“That-That’s not true! I loved you long before that regretful night! You mean every single moment of happiness to me. You’re every ray of sunshine that kisses my skin, every blue sky that reminds me of good days. You mean everything to me.” Genuine words pour from his lips, hoping that you’ll understand what’s left of his heart.
“You’re confessing?” You gasp, practically dazed at the amount of metaphors he compared you to. “Something catastrophic.” A small moment of recollection and a mumble under your breath, you’re understanding what he meant by the phrase he used several nights ago.
“Yes because I can't lose you. I’m a mess of feelings at the moment, but I just know that I’m scared to wake up to days without you in them.” Renjun pleads, the night air causing goosebumps to rise on his arms. His eyes are full of melancholy and fear as he waits for your response.
And you want to forgive him, but would that mean your heart is being too easy? You feel lingering pain, but your eyes reflect Renjun. “To think I thought you were pretty fearless.” Scoffing, you roll your eyes at him and are completely unsure what to do next.
Nevertheless, you’ve wanted someone like Renjun at some point in your life. You hoped for better days and those didn’t start happening until you two met. Renjun went from being your distant study partner to being your number one person to call. He’s wiped more tears than any boy has.
The difference between Renjun and Jaemin is while Jaemin is known to have an extravagantly warm presence, Renjun’s is hidden underneath all the quietness. Like a breakthrough, getting through Renjun felt like getting through to yourself. You needed him to aid in your own self love.
All you’ve ever wanted is to be seen and Renjun saw you.
“I forgive you.” Renjun can finally breathe and rest his tense muscles. But when he reaches for your hand, you take it away. “But it doesn’t mean we are okay. I’ll approach you when I’m ready.”
It’s not easy to love as it’s not easy to pretend that everything can go back to normal after being hurt. You need him to understand that, would he wait for you? The many others before didn’t.
“Okay.” That is all he can say, in the midst of a defeat, he still wishes that you’d stay by his side. But he wrestles that desire with transparency and having organic feelings. Nonetheless, he values the latter. If you did really somehow manage to love him, you’ll come back when you’re ready. He knows. He understands. He sees you through and through.
And he watches you disappear back into the house to find a friend to drive you home. He loves you, but love can also be consequential.
It’s already midway into the school semester and not that Renjun is counting or anything, but it’s been practically a whole month since the night at the party. He’s done nothing, except sigh in despair and reminisce about the memories before they were ruined.
While Jaemin’s efforts to console him are much appreciated, it doesn’t do much for the fact that you haven’t acknowledged Renjun’s existence for a whole thirty days.
And although he’ll wait a lifetime for you, the question of when he should move on ponders his clouded thoughts. His intensively agonizing desire of wanting to be by your side has dwindled down now. Renjun just wants to see you happy.
“Hey Cupid,” It’s a newly despised nickname coined by the one and only person who knows how to push at Renjun’s buttons — Lee Haechan. Haechan knocks obnoxiously at his door and does not wait around to hear an answer, “get your sad face out here.”
“Go away, Haechan. I’m not in the mood.” As Renjun mindlessly skims over his calendar for important dates, he is pained by the reminder of your upcoming birthday. You had marked it yourself a while back and specifically told Renjun that his attendance is entirely mandatory.
Times have changed now, right? You’ve been radio silent for weeks and as much as he hates to say this to himself: you probably don’t remember making such an assertion. Why would you? You’re most likely not thinking about him anymore anyways and maybe that’s for the better.
“Hey! Lovestruck Asshole, I’m not going to tell you again. Get that arrow out of your ass and come outside now.” Just the demand alone in Haechan’s voice irritates Renjun enough to where he’s storming to open his door.
But what it reveals is not the smirk of his annoying housemate, instead, it is the image of the very first time Renjun ever laid eyes on you and the moment Cupid’s Arrow struck right through his heart. It’s a rush of nostalgia that surges through his veins.
You sit with a hand underneath your chin and elbow pressing into a flat surface for support. The dazed stare of daydream as you’re unaware of your surroundings, yet still waiting for something exciting to catch your attention. And just how lovely you look in the softest rose colored shirt and how your lips, still barely glistening from a quick swipe of your tongue, are slightly agape into an expressionless rest.
All before your eyes trail to the distraction of another body entering the room and for a brief second, make eye contact with Renjun as he’s all the more astonished by your grace. Then like a scene that’s imprinted in his head too clearly, your gaze drops back down to the floor and you’re back to your inner thoughts.
As if the pierced arrow in his heart is triggered, Renjun rediscovers the feelings of a newfound infatuation — a crush. Though baseless except in regards to physical attraction, he’s nonetheless amazed by how quickly you take his breath away… again.
Unlike the first memory, you actually speak to him as you’re now familiar with the starry eyed boy. “It’s been a while.”
The color in your voice that he’s missed hearing is pure music. He clears his throat as if he’s afraid of his own vocal chords breaking from nervousness.
“H-Hey, yeah. It’s been a while.” Renjun repeats dumbfounded that you’re even sitting in his shared living room.
“How have you been?” There you are being polite, but the giddiness still runs like static through his veins at being asked about his well being.
“Lost.” He blurts out the first word that comes to mind. Perhaps, he should stop using words with such heavy implications to friendly gestures. Your head immediately pops up and he scrambles to correct himself. “I mean I’ve been distracted lately.”
“Sadness really does take its course.” You tread lightly, testing the waters with a small grin. The atmosphere is oddly comforting, like feeling you can’t quite replace.
Renjun looks rather rough around the edges, but you don’t blame him since you did show up unannounced. However, the glint in his eyes is much of a delight to see. The way his small mouth curves into the tiniest smile and the gentleness in his regular cadence remind you of past long days full of laughter. The best part of them all — you spent them together.
“My birthday is coming up soon.” Jumping straight to the point of your visit, you stand up to approach him. “I plan to host a small party… and I remember saying a while back that your attendance is mandatory.”
Renjun catches his breath in his throat and he could run gleeful laps around the room if it isn’t for the poorly spaced complex. “So are you still down, Huang Renjun?”
“I’d love that.” He smiles greatly at your offer and as simple as that, your arms wrap around his torso into a long awaited embrace.
“Me too.” You mumble into his shirt and take a deep breath of his lavender scented detergent, “I’m ready. I’m ready to have you in my life. I’m ready to laugh with you. I’m ready to lay in your company. I’m ready to give you my heart.”
As you finish your last sentence, his arms wrap around you too and pull you into a tighter hold. “You have always had mine.”
Renjun can finally remove the arrow that unforgivingly stayed stuck in his heart for the longest time. Your reciprocated love fills up the hole that is left behind. He can now love you with a full and whole heart.
