Kim’s Mother immigrated from Shanghai to marry her Father, having her only a year into their marriage

Kim grew up excelling in sports, falling in love with physical activity. She did everything from Soccer to Gymnastics, championing in every single one

Her parents were very supportive, showing up to every game or match, cheering her on, and their relationship was always very strong

A month after graduation, Kim left home, and fell in love with traveling. She found her way all around the North East, trying every new food or activity that she stumbled across. Her love of adventure and travel still exists to this day.

Not long after leaving home she met a girl, and fell hard. She was everything Kim dreamed her to be; kind, compassionate, strong. Plus, she rode a motorcycle which was just a bonus

When a member of their biker club tragically died in an accident, Kim broke down. She turned to substances to deal with the grief, pushing away her now Ex-Girlfriend who, rightfully, wasn’t ready to put up with that

The breakup set Kim straight… for the most part. She won’t do anything hard, but she still has a beer and smokes a joint if it’s offered

She left the club not long after the break-up, deciding it was best to be solo for a while. She moved back up to Maine, getting a small one bedroom apartment, and working towards her Personal Trainer certification.

She loves the job, because she can make her own schedule, giving her the freedom to travel whenever she wants. Plus, she gets to stay active which, even now, is so important to her

Not long after getting her degree, she got a job at Masters. She’s a personal trainer specifically there for Rolfe and the Actors, but she’ll train anybody in the building if they’re willing to pay her— she’s only on salary for the Actors

Session 5: All about the memes

This week’s lecture we had a discussion on how relationship between teachers and students on social media affect classroom learning. 

We were given an article as soon as we divided ourselves into groups, we were to find out the conclusion on what the article said about social media and classroom relationships. After a few minutes, the whole class came together again and agreed that the articles endorsed a teacher-student relationship outside of classroom confinement as it encourages student participation. A fellow cohort mate also mentioned from his article that it would create a better learning and teaching experience for the student as they begin to humanise their teachers rather than treat them as authority figures. And after receiving a few more answers from a few other groups, Ms. Nabila then told us to give our take on what we think on the subject.

As someone who has taught and is currently a student, I feel that both the teachers and students should have their duty and personal life separated rather than keeping in touch with each other outside of classroom confinement. Giving my opinion from the perspective of a student, I personally would not want my teachers intruding my personal life as policing me outside classroom confinement as it would not only make me uncomfortable, it would also mean to me that a teacher is not playing their role properly as their niche only exist within the boundaries of a classroom. Now taking this from a teacher’s perspective, I would also encourage separating work life from personal life as students tend to leave me stressed(I kid you not, my first experience of being a teacher has left me traumatised). From that point, I would like to temporarily break away from such pressure to take a breather to relieve myself. In addition, separating both work and personal lives helps me retain or preserve the image and duty I have as a teacher from the student’s perspective. So you can pretty much say that I lead two different lives when I am working as well as when I am not. 

But ultimately, like how most of the class agreed, it depends on our level of maturity on how we separate both work and personal lives.

Moving on, the second half of the lecture, other than discussing the murderous tendencies of Ms. Nabila on how she strangled her puppy to death, the rest of the lecture consisted of us discussing and making memes(mostly on how Ms. Nabila killed her puppy). She started the discussion by introducing us to a website to make our own memes. She then had us to think about how we would integrate memes into the class and suggested that the class make their own memes and send them to her so she could display it to everyone. Little did she know, most of the memes were targeted at either her or the puppy she strangled and insta TEE TEE. 

To give my take on this session, integrating memes into lessons would be a splendid idea as they would make the lesson more humorous and memorable. The education system should consider updating their system as mere books and homework just makes us(most of us) feel like we are forcefully being fed with information. Students should not be suffering from learning as it should also be enjoyable and memorable.
