ALICENT IS A LESBIAN

Nothing in the show provides any evidence that she's bisexual. If you want your bisexual representation, Rhaenyra is right there! Alicent is 100% a lesbian though. She expresses NO interest in men (her reactions to men range between indifference and disgust). She spends her entire adult life revolving all her energy around her delusionship with Rhaenyra. Regarding 'Alicole': she's a lesbian and their relationship only works bc they're friends and she needs him, as a man, to protect her. She finds herself manipulated by every man in her life in this patriarchal society. Her husband won't defend her, her father will marry her off despite her only being a child. Any instances of her 'flirting' with Cole is her desperately trying to stay alive. No one cares about what she wants or how she feels. Men all use her for their own motivations. Hence her interactions with Cole and Larys, trying to do the same thing (except her motivation is far more noble: her and her children staying alive). If Criston does have feelings for her, she thinks she might as well use that to her advantage. She is not attracted to him whatsoever. She's keeping him around because he's her ally, she is not in love or lusting after him.

If she ever is able to recognise her feelings of romantic love or lust, it'll be for Rhaenyra. No one else.

It's so funny bc I thought I was DONE with GoT/ASOIAF (at least until TWoW came out), and Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik had to center the Dance around a Yuri fallout basically, and my content-starved queer heart couldn't resist that shit.

You give me a princess who struggles with gender roles, more specifically, the ones that are set to her as a woman and the ones set to her by being heir to the throne. A woman who's walking the line between her duties. She is a woman with no true freedom, even though she's a Princess and next in line for the throne, always having to live up to the expectations set by the men around her.

Then, you have her former "best friend," who's been groomed by both her father and the King used as a pawn in political games, and ended up isolated as a result. She's also an extremely religious woman who's been repressing her true desires before she even realized what those desires really were. She's a woman with no true agency, even though she's Queen.

And to top it all off, they had a great relationship. They were there for each other. They confided in each other. And then, their relationship fell apart because of the ambition of the men who were supposed to have their best interests at heart but only had theirs guiding their actions.

They grow apart and are pitted against each other. Each of them defends their family fiercely, which, of course, causes conflict because, again, the men who should be taking care of them are selfish bastards. Then, for the briefest of moments, they manage to get close again. Not like before, because too much has gone down between them. But, of fucking course, Viserys has to die, but not before speaking about an ambiguous prophecy about who's to sit on the Iron Throne (too many Aegons, man), and of fucking course that opens the gates to a civil war, which, of course, takes 0.1 seconds to go from bad to worse and then all Hell breaks loose, making it impossible for these two women, who had once been the closest two people could be, ever to reconcile.

So yeah, Condal and Sapochnik have me hooked on toxic, doomed-by-the-narrative Yuri.

I'm just here for the ride.

While I'm not a fan of Alicole, definitely took me off guard the first time around admittedly, I will say at least Alicent got to experience an orgasm for the first time so good for her.

BUT I am still of the belief our favorite Greens Queen is a repressed lesbian who has the hots for Rhaenyra and so I have this headcannon that the reason she got with Criston Cole in the first place is that it's her own twisted way of being with Rhaenyra.

Cole fucked Rhaenyra, now Alicent is fucking Cole, therefore Alicent got to fuck Rhaenyra

(it's similar to how Blitz from Helluva Boss hooked up with Chaz since he was an ex of both Moxie and Millie whom Blitz definitely wants to have a three-way with but that's probably the closest he'll ever get to making that fantasy into a reality)

And this can be chalked up to internalized homophobia or compulsory heterosexuality or some other third thing, but yeah that's what I think.
