On the whole, KHUFIYA is a well-made gripping saga.
Tumblr media
Khufiya Review {3.5/5} & Review Rating
KHUFIYA is the story of a mole in India’s intelligence agency. The year is 2004. Krishna Mehra (Tabu) works for the Research & Analysis Wing (RAW) and is based in Dhaka. She comes across Heena Rehman (Azmeri Haque), who offers to spy for India in exchange for money, which she desperately needs for her father’s illness. Krishna agrees and while working with her, both fall in love. Unknown to Krishna, Heena is sent on a mission to eliminate Brigadier Mirza (Shataf Figar). Before she can do so, Mirza is informed of the plan. He eliminates Heena. A few months later, Krishna's boss Jeev (Ashish Vidyarthi) learns that Ravi Mohan (Ali Fazal), an employee at RAW, told Bangladesh about Heena's involvement, leading to her death. His office is bugged and that's when the RAW finds out the truth about Ravi. But to gather more evidence, his house too is riddled with surveillance cameras. Krishna, too, is made a part of this operation which she names 'Brutus'. While spying on them, Krishna learns about Ravi's bond with his wife Charu (Wamiqa Gabbi), son Kunal (Swastik Tiwari) and Ravi's mother Lalita (Navnindra Behl). At the same time, Krishna also gets the shock of her life when she finds out who Ravi is actually working for. What happens next forms the rest of the film.
Tumblr media
KHUFIYA is based on the book 'Escape To Nowhere' by Amar Bhushan. The story is one of the strengths of the film as it's very arresting. Rohan Narula and Vishal Bhardwaj's screenplay does justice to the superb plot in hand. The focus is chiefly on the characters and the madness that ensues in their lives. Vishal Bhardwaj's dialogues are sharp and well-worded.Vishal Bhardwaj's direction is exemplary and this is one of his best works. We have seen films in this zone like PARMANU (2018), RAAZI (2018), BABY (2015) or even in Hollywood like MUNICH to name a few. Thanks to his execution, one doesn't think of these films or draw parallels with them. Not a single moment is boring as a lot is happening. A few twists are unexpected and will leave audiences amazed. At the same time, the way the equation between certain characters changes is seen to be believed. On the flipside, a few developments are confusing. It also takes a while to realize that the flashback has commenced or ended. A simple text like 'Dhaka - 6 months ago' would have been helpful. Secondly, the way our agencies are able to hoodwink foreign officials in multiple places is a bit hard to digest. The climax is gripping but could have been more nail-biting.KHUFIYA begins with a very memorable scene and sets the tone. If you feel the film will drop as the makers would take their time to introduce characters, you are mistaken. The makers waste no time in explaining the situation of Ravi. A few scenes that stand out are Krishna and her team bugging Ravi's house, Charu dancing to 'Yeh Jawani Hai Diwani', Krishna's son blasting her mother, and what could be said as the interval point. In the second half, the scene where Ravi argues with his mother is funny. The pre-climax and climax are too good.
Tumblr media
Speaking of performances, Tabu yet again gets to play a meaty role and she makes good use of it. There's no false note in her act and as always, it’s a pleasure to see her in such challenging parts. Wamiqa Gabbi once again hits the ball out of the park after her acts in JUBILEE and CHARLIE CHOPRA & THE MYSTERY OF THE SOLANG VALLEY. She is fully convincing as the bored housewife who is at heart a filmy bug and a devastated mother who has lost the will to live. Here's hoping she continues her great work as a talent like hers is rare. Azmeri Haque is the surprise of the film. She's sure to become a talking point after the film's release. Ali Fazal gets a bit overshadowed but leaves a mark nevertheless. Navnindra Behl is a bigger surprise of the film. See it to believe it! Shataf Figar and Ashish Vidyarthi are decent. Atul Kulkarni (Shashank) is fine in a special appearance. Swastik Tiwari, Lalit Parimoo (Home Minister Naren Mishra), Rahul Vohra (Wasan), Disney James (Kutty), Jan Graveson (Rachel Mcclane), Meet Vohra (Vikram; Krishna's son), Virendra Vashisht (Sardar old man in RAW), Shashi Bhushan (Michael; who is spying from milk centre), Geeta (Priyanka Setia; Michael's associate), Alexx O Nell (Dr David Langley) and Monica Rae (Langley's wife) are fine in small roles. Rahul Ram (Yaar Jogiya) is superb.Vishal Bhardwaj's music doesn't have a shelf life but is well woven into the narrative. 'Mat Aana' is the best of the lot followed by 'Bujhee Bujhee' and 'Mann Na Rangaave'. 'Tanhaai Hai' and 'Naa Hosh Chaley' are okay. Vishal Bhardwaj's background score adds to the thrill and mystery.Farhad Ahmed Dehlvi's cinematography is commendable. The locales of Alberta are well captured. T P Abid's production design is detailed. Karishma Sharma's costumes are realistic. The same applies to Harpal Singh's stunts. A Sreekar Prasad's editing is razor sharp. On the whole, KHUFIYA is a well-made gripping saga. It works big time due to the intriguing plot, tight screenplay, twists and turns and exemplary performances by Tabu and Wamiqa Gabbi. #KHUFIYA #wellmade #gripping #saga Read the full article

there's a new D Listed article about Hammer and Death on the Nile. It mentions the comments his fans are leaving on social media and it's absolutely hilarious. I hope his fans are happy for making him seem like even more of a joke!
OMG, the cringe is next level. Karma came for Armie with no mercy. He loathed those fans and now they are all he has left.
Death On The Nile is out on February 11th only in theatres and a new special look trailer has been released, as have character posters for all the major players–EXCEPT ONE! You guessed it, alleged predator and abuser, Armie Hammer, is noticeably missing from the character posters, despite being part of the main cast and playing Gal Gadot‘s newly married husband. But apart from that screen-grab from the trailer above, he’s been erased from most of the movie’s marketing.
Armie Hammer is experiencing what the people in Avenger’s Infinity War did when Thanos snapped and they started evaporating because he’s nowhere to be found. Last year, multiple women came forward with allegations that Armie was abusive, talked about eating their ribs, ignored safe words, branded an ex of his, and was an all-around psychotic creep. Armie went to rehab for several months for his sex issues anyway, but not before he got dropped from his talent agency and dropped from movies. And since I’m assuming they can’t recut DOTN to not include him, he’s being hidden somewhere in the back.
DOTN is based on the 1937 Agatha Christie novel of the same name and is the sequel to 2017’s Murder On the Orient Express also directed by Kenneth Branagh who also stars as Hercule Poirot, in the films. It follows the murder mystery of a newlywed trip in Egypt gone south and also stars Tom Bateman, Annette Bening, Russell Brand, Ali Fazal, Dawn French, Rose Leslie, Emma Mackey, Sophie Okonedo, Jennifer Saunders, and Letitia Wright. The character posters are out and they give each character a label like Annette Bening is “The Mother” and Letitia is “The Vector Of Infection.” Just kidding! Letitia is actually playing “The Manager.” Here are the posters and no, there’s no poster for Armie:
If you scroll through the comments section of that post, you’ll see people are quite mad about it. The Armie fans (or Armie himself since he has the time) came out in droves:
“WE NEED ARMIE HAMMER IN PROMO!! He deserves to be involved in promoting the film.”
“I hope you will correct this injustice and will include Armie Hammer in the upcoming promo. He hasn’t been charged with any crime, he is innocent and he is an essential part of this cast.”
“WE’RE ONLY HERE FOR ARMIE.”
“Excited to see Armie Hammer!”
“The only reason I’d see this movie is for Armie, y’all are sleeping on this.”

DEATH OF #AISHA
"O Allah! Curse the two Idols of Quraish and their two Jibt & Taghoot, their two accusers and *their two Daughters.....
(Dua-e-Sanam e Quraish)
**********************************
Aisha died at her home in Medina on 17 Ramazan 58 AH (16 July 678). She was 67 years old. Some such as Sibt ibn al-Jawzi, Hakim Sanai, and Khwaja Mehboob Qasim Chishti Muhsarafee Qadiri say that she was murdered by #Muawiyah.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org › wiki
(Aisha - Wikipedia)
Incident:
"#Moaviya invited Ayesha for Dinner, and he got a ditch dug in the ground, filling it up with sharp knives and swords, with their blades facing upwards. According to Allama Ibn Khaldoon, Moaviya masked that ditch with lanky pieces of wood, and spread a carpet on top of it all to camouflage it. He placed a wooden chair over it for Ayesha to sit. No sooner Ayesha sat on the chair, the whole set up retrieved and she fell in the pit, injuring herself from head to toe, and breaking a lot of bones. To hide his felony, Moaviya got the ditched filled up with lime. That is how he murdered Ayesha; she was sixty four years old when Moaviya murdered her towards the end of 57 Hijri. This proves, without a doubt, that Moaviya was an enemy of Prophet Mohammed (pbuh), and he proved his enmity towards the Prophet (pbuh) by murdering his (pbuh) wife. The only reason that Moaviya performed this heinous act was that Ayesha stopped him from making fun of Islam from the pulpit of Masjid-e-Nabvi. This is why no one knows the exact location of Ayesha’s grave in Medina."
He killed the Mother of the Believers Ayesha in cold blood after ordering the killing of her brother Muhammad bin Abu Bakar. He was also responsible for the killings of many other companions of the Prophet (pbuh) including Hajar bin Adi and Ammar Yasir.
Following the death of Muhammad bin Abu Bakr the people of Egypt gave Bai'at to Muaweyah. It was following this (event) that Ummul Mu'mineen Ayesha would curse Moaviya and Amr bin Aas after every Namaz.

Sipah e Sahaba and other Wahabi scum have introduced Muaweyah as a companion of the Prophet (pbuh) using narrations fabricated by Moaviya and his filthy descendants.
One very clever move by the Wahabis was to declare Moaviya a scribe (Kaatib e Wahy) who wrote down the revelations of Allah's Messenger.
All praise be to Allah Ta'ala the leading Sunni scholars realising this conspiracy of the Wahabis, have declared all hadith praising Moaviya as fabricated.
Not a single hadith in praise of Moaviya is Sahih (authentic)
Many classical Sunni scholars whilst listing those individuals honored as writer of the revelation did not count Moaviya. For evidence see the following texts:

Actor Ali Fazal is all set to feature in a modern-day adaptation of Agatha Christie’s famous novel Death On The Nile.
The film will go on floors later this month. Filming will take place in London and parts of Europe.
Here are Ali Fazal's quotes about the movie:
On being part of such a major international project: "It feels good but I'm also a little nervous because I have to start the work now -- the preparation and everything."
On the official Agatha Christie Twitter account: "Agatha Christie has started following me on Twitter. I mean, the foundation obviously. This feels great!"
On the movie starting to shoot by the end of this month: "It's all very exciting. It's a big franchise. It is the second part to Murder On The Orient Express. Kenneth Branagh is directing it. He is a legendary director and actor." (He also said he is all set to fly out in a few days' time.)
On working with Gal Gadot: (Ali is excited but hasn’t met her yet.) "I haven’t met her. I have only sat down with my director. I went for costume trials."
On the big line-up of the film: "I never get intimidated by the cast. I am not playing an Indian in this film, so my biggest moment came when my look test worked and Kenneth really liked it. Some actors think they are good, still things don’t work out. We constantly need validation from other people. This was a good validation for me."
On his role in the film: "I play a pivotal role in the film. All the pivotal roles in Murder On The Orient Express were the suspects. This time also...,"(He trails off, keeping those who might not have read the book in suspense.)
On his mother being proud: "This film is close to my heart because my mother is a big Agatha Christie fan. She doesn’t read anymore, but I think she has read every single thing written by Agatha Christie. She is a big fan, and we have the entire collection at home in Lucknow."
On sharing the news about the casting with his mother: "She plays it down. When I first shared the news with her, she was like, 'Oh achha, do let me know when the shoot wraps up'. But mom is very proud of me. She is a very sweet person."

Review: DEATH ON THE NILE Does Better Justice to Agatha Christie than ORIENT EXPRESS
Tumblr media
I’ve been a Kenneth Branagh stan for quite some time, but I wasn’t really a fan of his Murder on the Orient Express. I couldn’t even tell you why since I saw it so long ago, I barely remember it. A period murder mystery should definitely be my kind of thing, and that definitely wasn’t, though I love the genre that has brought us Clue, and The Last of Sheila, and of course, most recently, Knives Out. They’re all great in their own respect, but it all leads back to author Agatha Christie and her character, Hercule Poirot
Branagh is back as Poirot for his second movie as the private detective, but first, we get a prologue, a flashback to Poirot’s time fighting in the French trenches during World War I, which essentially acts as an origin for the inspector’s famed moustache. (I wondered if Branagh was able to use Matthew Vaughn’s WWI trenches from The King’s Man when that movie was done.)
Decades later, Poirot is in a London nightclub listening to the dulcet tones of blues singer Salome Otterbourne (Sophie Okonedo) when he witnesses a meeting between besties Jacqueline de Bellefort (Emma Mackey) and billionaire heiress Linnet Ridgeway (Gal Gadot), the latter who graciously accepts an offer to dance by Jackie’s fiancé Simon Doyle (Armie Hammer), which ends up being a lot more risqué than Jackie expected. A few weeks later, Simon and Linnet are engaged to be married and having their wedding in Egypt, though the spurned Jackie still holds a grudge. Poirot himself is in Egypt, where he reconnects with his friend Bouc (Tom Bateman, the only other returnee from Orient Express), who is there with his mother (Annette Bening) for the big wedding.
Tumblr media
All the aforementioned end up on the riverboat Karnac, which Linnet has rented out for her lavish party for friends and other wedding guests, which not only brings together the key players but also a wide cadre of hanger-ons from Linet’s business manager cousin Katchadourian (Ali Fazal) and her doctor (Russell Brand), but all sorts of others who have every reason to want the money inherited by Doyle through his marriage to Linnet.
It’s a good hour before the first “death” as promised in the title, and after that, bodies start piling up, as Poirot tries to find the killer or killers. For some reason, the investigation portion of the film works better than it did in Orient Express, so that the languid pacing of the first hour starts to pay off. Granted, much of those pacing issues are due to the number of characters being introduced, but Branagh seems to have a better handle on Christie and her beloved character than he did first time around.
Although the cast for Orient Express was impressive, Branagh has the benefits of a skilled casting director to get great actors into all the key roles, including Gadot, who has already been attached to play Egyptian Queen Cleopatra. When you see her in Death on the Nile you’ll immediately know why. She’s quite good, but this, once again, is very much an ensemble piece with each of the actors getting enough screen time for you to determine whether you like them or not. I thought Sophie Okonedo was quite good, playing a bit more of a character than we’ve seen from her, and she’s well-paired with Letitia Wright as her niece/manager, Rosalie. I wasn’t familiar with Emma Mackey’s work, but she has a great role as the fly in the ointment of the Doyle wedding going off without a hitch. We even get to see Annete Bening in a rare ensemble role, playing Bouc’s clinging mother, and I actually liked Bateman quite a bit both in his scenes with her and with Branagh.
To address the Armie Hammer in the room, the disgraced actor’s role as the sleazy snake Simon Doyle seems to suit him, amongst a cast where all of them have some sort of issue or imperfection. In fact, even Gadot’s Linnet acts like a bit of a bitch at times. Probably the best bit of casting is reuniting comedy legends Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders (best known simply as French and Saunders), but they’re playing very different non-comedic roles here. Still, it’s wonderful to see them in a major movie together.
Tumblr media
More than anything else, Death on the Nile looks amazing, whether it’s the recreation of many Egyptian landmarks, the way Haris Zambarloukos’s camera bobs and weaves through the halls and stairwells of the Karnak, or just the many shots of the riverboat travelling down the Nile. It all just looks so beautiful thanks to a combination of production design, visual effects, and cinematography, although the latter’s camera calisthenics settle down for the movie’s second half, as Poirot goes into his interrogations, probably the enjoyable aspect of the film. After the big reveal of the killer, Branagh throws on an epilogue that’s probably as needless as the film’s prologue, though it does wrap things up in a nice bow.
What will be interesting to see is if the good karma Branagh has achieved with his autobiographical Belfast will carry over to the much bigger-budgeted Poirot mystery, especially since he was able to bring over many of his craft collaborators. I don’t see that happening, as Nile has the onus of being a sequel to a movie that received mixed reviews that was targeting an older demographic than the current critical pool.
Despite some pacing issues, Death on the Nile looks glorious, offers a great ensemble cast, and a final act that Agatha Christie fans should greatly admire. It’s good enough that I look forward with hopes that Branagh can play the role at least once more.
Rating: 7/10
