Steeplebush (Spiraea tomentosa) in Algonquin Provincial Park. Many Bees and Flower Flies visit the flowers of this beautiful plant which often grows in wet conditions such as this one photographed at the edge of Peck Lake. Mink Frog (Lithobates septentrionalis) in Algonquin Provincial Park, July 2017. Mink Frogs get their common name from their musky skin secretions which apparently make them smell like a Mink. Mink Frogs lay their eggs beneath the surface of cold permanent lakes, ponds, or slow streams.
