I think it's really disappointing that instead of deconstructing Batman in a new way (Alfred is dead and Bruce isn't rich anymore, so now he has to do all the mature and traditionally female everyday tasks like cooking, cleaning and taking care of your family members by himself for the first time in...ever. In a way destroying the image of the cool and edgy Batman who usually didn't have take care of these pesky tasks because another, more mature and motherly character like Alfred or aunt Harriet was doing it for him) Bruce is still being deconstructed in a way we've seen for over a decade at this point: Is he turning insane, is he better off alone and will DC push him to the point where he'll start killing (the Joker)?

The potential to do something new is there, but it's not really being used.

re: last rb I think we should genuinely reject (or at least explore realistically) the idea of Alfred as Bruce's father that has been so heavily pushed in modern comics, I really like the version where Alfred is hired after Dick is taken in (for obvious reasons) but even following modern canon where Alfred has custody of Bruce as a child, where is the nanny or au pair that every rich kid on the East Coast has

that man is a butler and butlers do not do child rearing, Martha might not even have done any child rearing while she was alive or at least it would have been considered very modern and down-to-earth of her to take care of the kid herself like they weren't billionaires who pay people to do those things for them

even if Bruce is a sad little boy who's extended family doesn't want to take care of him (RIP Aunt Agatha) Alfred Pennyworth is not going to be raising that child himself, butlers are chiefs of the entire household staff and the Wayne Estate still has to be taken care of, where is Bruce's nanny?!
