Venus in Aquarius
I've really been living in the Venus in Aquarius mode and discovered a couple of observations. What is right for us is not right for society, so it feels like the heart splits into two and doesn't feel satisfied. Why are we like this? Childhood trauma and filling our love with the love we never had as a child or just a real desire for pleasure. A Venus in Aquarius has a free heart. It wants to love and be loved with no boundaries. In modern day society it is never happy and our hearts do not like to be ignored.
More than anything the Venus in Aquarius is the player's player until we find the love of our life, we out here playing. Alexa, play Big Pun Still not a player.

Holy WarGames Batman!
You can never say that you don’t get your money’s worth when it comes to a NXT:TakeOver PPV and WarGames was no exception!
Whether it be Io Shirai flying off the top of the cage with a garbage can over her head or Pat McAfee doing a swanton bomb from the heavens, this one was another classic from NXT. Plus, Tommaso Ciampa and Timothy Thatcher put together one brutal war for themselves too. Johnny Gargano became the first 3-time North American Champion, uncovering his new Scream partner in Austin Theory. You know it’s a really good PPV when an above average strap match between Dexter Lumis and Cameron Grimes is probably the low man on the totem pole. Grimes continues to get better each and every week with his versatility and strange personality. He reminds me of a bigger Buzz Sawyer.
Injuries? Sure, got them too! Candice LeRae’s broken wrist and Gargano’s split mouth complete with stitches top the charts.
At the end of the day, Raquel Gonzalez gets elevated into the NXT Women’s Championship picture by pinning Shirai. The Undisputed Era remain kings of the WarGames cage. McAfee proves he’s one tough SOB too!
In the end, WarGames is your Star of the Week!

Tommaso Ciampa defeated Dexter Lumis

It’s only a matter of time before we get two-straps Asuka!

— WWE (@WWE) December 8, 2020
The Hardy Bros? Hilarious! Riddle’s growing on me. His in-ring work is unquestioned. His antics outside it are becoming funnier each week.
The only RECKONING in RETRIBUTION should be taking the masks off and clearing them of the silly names. It’s Mia Yim. It’s Mia Yim. It’s Mia Yim already!
And like that, business is back in motion! @CedricAlexander picks up the win, and leaves #TheNewDay with a statement. #WWERaw pic.twitter.com/tCPwbwufIJ
— WWE (@WWE) December 8, 2020
Cedric Alexander is playing The Hurt Business perfectly. He’s a main event player and is proving it each and every week with back-to-back singles victories over The New Day. How long is it before he says I want a shot at Bobby Lashley’s US Title too?
Is it me or are we headed for a screwjob by The Miz and Morrison on AJ Styles in his upcoming WWE Championship match with Drew McIntyre? Just a gut feeling here.
Things have EXPLODED backstage between @DMcIntyreWWE & @WWESheamus on #WWERaw!!! … Or have they? pic.twitter.com/Kkvj1NBR6N
— WWE (@WWE) December 8, 2020
Having Drew McIntyre and Sheamus fight it out in the back after an inadvertent brogue kick to the WWE Champion led to a loss in the ring was beautiful. Fight each other. Beat up an unsuspecting bystander. Go get a pint.
Really missed Alexa Bliss this week. Sure, Bray Wyatt, it’s for her own safety. But it’s definitely not as much fun without Miss Bliss.

Didn’t love the no-contest ending with Wyatt and Randy Orton. We get it, The Fiend is different but the ending just fell flat for me.

It’s a week of returns for NXT. And that’s bad news (sorry Wade Barrett) for the men’s roster as Karrion Kross leads the list of returning superstars. I give credit to Damian Priest for stepping up to the challenge, but that’s a challenge with Kross and Scarlett that he’s going to lose. Kross and his NXT Championship that he gave up due to injury will meet again soon I’m sure.
Back too is Drake Maverick, Malcolm Bivens with Tyler Rust, Isaiah “Swerve” Scott, Austin Theory and the NXT Champion Finn Balor. It remains to be seen who will face Balor at New Year’s Evil on January 6th, but it seems everyone from Pete Dunne to Kross to Priest to a whole host of others are in the mix.
“The Way” in-ring promo just went on too long and was too forced I thought. Theory and Indie Hartwell just felt like 3rd and 4th wheels out there as they just can’t match LeRae and Gargano on the mic.

— WWE (@WWE) December 10, 2020
Raquel Gonzalez looks the part of a big-time player and is finding her way into the spotlight. Funny that just one year ago, we were saying the same things about Rhea Ripley and then the pandemic hit. I’m not sure if Gonzalez is ready for the NXT Women’s Title just yet, but it would be intriguing to see her as champ and how LeRae would react to it.

Suddenly, the tag team division is very competive and we haven’t seen Breezango lately. Kudos to the Grizzled Young Veterans and Imperium for stepping it up a notch.

— WWE on FOX (@WWEonFOX) December 12, 2020
Loved that the contract signing between Sasha Banks and Carmella to open the show DIDN’T take place in the ring. Something a little different was a bit refreshing having Carmella backstage. Plus, we get a main event title match out of it too! Poor Sommelier!
No surprise that we’re getting a tag team title defense for The Street Profits against Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode after Ziggler pinned Montez Ford Friday night. Good match to advance the feud and set up the title match coming up this Friday night.
Hated the countout victory by Sami Zayn over Big E in a non-title Intercontinental Championship Match. It did nothing for either guy. I like Zayn but here’s hoping this is the start of something big for Big E, pun intended. If you’re going to break him away from The New Day, there has to be a point. First, the I-C Title? Then, maybe a challenge for the Universal Championship down the road too?

Kevin Owens vs. Roman Reigns is going to be one insane TLC match. Owens promo was one of his best. Surrounded by his “friends” chair, table and ladder, KO hit hard on his family and just how good Reigns is but that he still vows to get back his Universal Championship. Reigns is so good, just being backstage looking so smug while Jey Uso attacks Owens is priceless. Having Paul Heyman remind him that everything is done on his time instead of running into the ring to fight KO reminds us that less is more. Then, it all turns personal when Reigns finds Owens in the back, beats him down and reminds the Owens family that he’s the one that puts food on the table and that he could take it off theirs. Delicious and well placed right in the middle of the show while the ladies take the main event.
Natalya & Billie Kay. What a waste! We will, though, take a Riott Squad victory anytime we can get it.
Chad Gable is sounding more and more like Kurt Angle and I dig it! I’m hoping Otis is not the only one to join Gable’s training group. Not a bad first pairing either, even in defeat to Cesaro & Shinsuke Nakamura.

Carmella’s entrance – absolute smoke show! WOW! The trash talk during the match brought back a little old school feel to it. Carmella was pretty good before but she’s taking it to another level with this latest reincarnation. That was a really good match before the DQ ending. The WWE is relying too much on the DQ finish these days. The aftermath of the match – OMG! Smashing bottles over Banks while sipping champagne – very heelish! Looks like we’ll get round 2 at TLC as scheduled.

SmackDown hands down with the best show of the week!
Parting shots:
Having the WWE ThunderDome travel from Orlando to Tampa had little effect on SmackDown. Moving from the basketball arena to the spacious home of the Tampa Bay Rays, I thought the WWE would use some of that space to its advantage. There may be more screens, but maybe down the road we’ll see some additions but it’s first show in Tampa didn’t look a whole lot different than the last show in Orlando.
TLC PPV – Updated Card
WWE Championship: Drew McIntyre vs. AJ Styles
Universal Championship TLC Match: Roman Reigns vs. Kevin Owens
SmackDown Women’s Championship Match: Sasha Banks vs. Carmella
The Fiend vs. Randy Orton
WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship: Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler vs. Asuka & Lana
RAW Tag Team Championship Match: The New Day vs. Cedric Alexander & Shelton Benjamin
Coming up this week:
RAW: Firefly Fun House at WWE ThunderDome
NXT: KUSHIDA & Leon Ruff vs. Johnny Gargano & Austin Theory
SMACKDOWN (on FS1): SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match: The Street Profits vs. Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode Bianca Belair vs. Bayley

“No. Fucking. Way.”
“Yes fucking way! Ain’t she beautiful?” Bucky beamed, running his hands gingerly over the door of his new ride. An old muscle car, a sleek black with a few scratches and dents, but proudly glinting in the moonlight.
You let out a low whistle, glancing up at Bucky as you crouched beside the car for a better look. “Gorgeous. She got a name?”
“I was debatin’ Grace, but now I’m thinkin’ she’s more of an April. What do you think?”
You would have teased him, but this was genuinely the happiest you’d seen him in a long time. Alight eyes were crinkled at the corners and his grin was one of the largest you’d ever seen, and heck, you wondered why he couldn’t be like this more often.
“Shits, that’s perfect.”
You sent him a pair of finger-guns when he opened the door for you and he rolled his eyes in feigned exasperation, smile still stretched over his lips.
In an empty threat, he replied, “Say shit one more time in plural and you’re walking there on your own.”
“Well, God forbid a girl has funs,” you joked only to be met with a groan of annoyance. “Oh, calm down.”
Once in the car, you immediately went to set your feet on the dashboard, legs crossed at the ankle, but received a deadly glare. You slowly lowered your feet, never breaking eye contact with him even as your features twisted in playful fear.
As you tugged your seatbelt on, you asked, “When’d you get her?”
“Two days ago. Couldn’t afford the payments on the other one. Sold it to some frat guys ages ago and took whatever was left after payin’ off the bank to get this one.” He sighed contentedly as he turned the key in the ignition so the engine roared to life. “DMV shit got delayed. She’s probably, like, a third-hand vehicle and needs the upholstery totally ripped up and replaced– but I think she’s pretty great.”
With a soft sound of disagreement, you shook your head. “She’s a ten out of ten, no need for anything. I’m happy for you.”
You tucked your hands behind your head, leaning back into the worn out leather seats which had turned soft over years of use, and a soft sigh of comfort left your lips to prove your point.
“How are your classes going?” he asked after a moment, still smiling softly at your previous statement.
“Getting fingered by Wolverine would be less painful,” you replied casually so Bucky choked and coughed on an inhale. You laughed quietly. “How’s engineering going?”
The indicator made a clicking noise you thought must have sounded less out of tune years ago as he took a left turn. “Shitty. Fuckin’ hate it.”
Eyebrows furrowed, you tilted your head with an agape mouth. “Shitty? Two days ago it was the shit, you said you loved it, that you elected to major in it.”
He gave you a tight-lipped smile and half a shrug and, immediately, you knew something was wrong. While you and Bucky didn’t often discuss your respective career choices and plans for the future, each time you did manage a conversation adjacent, he’d mentioned it was something he’d wanted to do– hell, had he not mentioned it, the number of shitty jokes and puns he made in its reference would have convinced you alone.
“Didn’t want to at first. But Becca advertised wanting to go into journalism all throughout high school and it’s not– it’s not a traditionally lucrative job, at least for the first few years.” He shrugged again, this time in a bit of insecurity, nervousness, but his eyes remained trained on the road. “Figured one of us should be able to embrace that nontraditional job so I picked up something more secure. Something secure because things at home are, you know…”
He had trailed off, but you knew what he meant. Money was a sensitive topic for both, Rebecca and Bucky and, although they could never be ashamed of their family, their pride kept them from asking for help from you despite your continued offering.
“Anyway, she ended up choosing poli-sci for law school for the same reason, so that was pretty ironic,” he grinned and you could see it didn’t reach his eyes, maybe hurting his cheeks as much as it hurt you just to see it.
You remained silent and your teeth wreaked havoc on your lower lip as he continued, “Can’t do anything about it now, though. But, if I could, I’d change my choices in an instant.”
Toying with your fingers in your lap, you asked, “What would you major in instead?”
“I don’t know, it’s kind of stupid really–“
“Didn’t you wanna write?” you added softly, eliciting a look of surprise from him.
He glanced at you quickly. “How’d you know?”
“You were always writing in high school. I saw you with your little notebook every lunch, Bucky,” you laughed, images of an acne-covered Bucky with shoulder-length hair bent over a tiny journal, scribbling for the life of him.
He groaned in embarrassment, a light pink dusting over his cheeks. “I can’t believe you noticed that, Christ. The emo phase was strong.”
“Well, if it helps, I think you’d be a kick-ass writer. I’d be first in line to buy your book. Wouldn’t even sell it on eBay after getting you to sign it.”
He fell silent at that, choosing to bite his lip in place of a response. You’d begun to wonder if you’d said something wrong when he whispered, “Thanks, Mario.”
You didn’t say much more, only turning to look out the window. It wasn’t too long before you heard him chuckle to himself but before you could ask him what he was laughing about, he spoke up, “This is so sad. Alexa, play Despacito.”
You snorted. Fuckin’ dork.
Bucky was leaned against the door of his car as he waited with you until your date for the evening arrived, keeping you engrossed in the utterly ridiculous nonsense you both spoke about.
“I’m just saying, if you made coffee with Gatorade and injected it into your bloodstream, you’re basically God. Like, who the fuck would need heroin then?” you tried explaining for the fifth time, unable to keep the smile off your face. You had your arms crossed over your chest in an effort to keep yourself warm whilst Bucky’s hands were shoved into the pockets of his sweatpants.
“Gatorade is for cowards, we use only Red Bull in this holy house– it actually does something. How about if you mixed vodka, ground espresso beans, and protein powder, then snorted it–”
You clicked your tongue. “Intravenous is more effective–”
“Didn’t realize the offer of a date included you, James.”
In a bit of a laborious task, you looked away from Bucky to the guy who came to a stop before you. Dark hair gelled back and darkness which wasn’t hidden by his glasses surrounding deep hazel eyes, he wore a simple black sweater over a pale blue t-shirt. “But I’m not complaining. Love me some three-way action.”
“Tony,” Bucky sighed, smiling nonetheless. “This is–“
“Mario? I figured.” Tony flashed a quick smile at you.
Immediately you could hear loud sniggering from beside you, making you spin to face him in annoyance. “You have got to stop doing that! What the fuck?” you exclaimed, punching a laughing Bucky on the shoulder as he feebly tried to defend himself.
“My name’s Y/N, not Mario,” you stated to clear the confusion, rolling your eyes at Bucky who burst out laughing again, clearly showing no remorse.
He looked from his watch to you, not fazed by your exchange with Bucky. “Ah, I see. Well, shall we get going? Game’s about to start.”
“See ya later, Mario. Have a good time, guys.” Bucky ruffled your hair as you tried to swat his hand away, taking a step towards Tony as he looked at you with a small smile on his face. “I’ll be on the other side of the court if you need me.”
“D’you want to get some food during halftime or before the first quarter?” Tony asked once Bucky waved a goodbye and jogged to join his friends.
“Halftime sounds good, I think the game’s about to start,” you answered, sending him a half smile.
He only nodded and adjusted his glasses, beckoning for you to join him.
You both made small talk and it turned out he wasn’t nearly half as bad as Peter. He rarely spoke of himself and only mentioned he would be looking for a sustainable source of energy in the future, something about wanting to lessen the environmental burden of current energy dependencies.
It started out well enough, the both of you commenting on the players who you knew. You waved at Sam from your place on the bleachers and he shot you a wink in response
“Sam’s starting tonight and it’s against the Gotham Jokers. S’why Bucky and everyone else is here,” you explained, leaning forward to rest your elbows on your knees.
“Wilson? Number seven? He’s your friend?” Tony asked, squinting at the ball as it was tossed into the air, soon taken by one of the Jokers.
You didn’t bother sparing him a glance as you watched Sam quickly steal the ball back and passing it to Rhodey. “Yeah. Why d’you sound so surprised?”
“Think he’s a bit overrated, that’s all,” Tony mumbled, making you reel back and stare at him disbelievingly. “Got the whole school worshipping the ground he walks on.”
“Captain of the team, MVP last season. He got scholarships to three different prestigious universities, too,” you recited, jumping to your feet as Sam made a shot from the three point line, the ball going in effortlessly with a swish. You looked over your shoulder to raise an eyebrow at Tony, “Still think he’s overrated?”
He only shrugged. “Guess not.”
The next few minutes flew by quickly, Tony progressively getting more invested in the game as it went on. He occasionally let out a cheer when you did, but other than that, he was more observant than anything.
But just as the Jokers were about to pass the ball, Tony jumped to his feet with a scowl, “Double dribble! Double fucking dribble! He stopped! What the fuck, why isn’t anyone calling that out?”
“Tony, he didn’t hold it. There was no double dribble,” you urged as the people surrounding you turned to glare at you both.
“Jesus fuck, this entire crowd is ignorant. Uneducated,” he stated angrily, sitting down in a huff.
You patted him on the back in attempted consolation, but he only ignored you, continuing to glower ahead.
Everything was fine and dandy until the Jokers’ defense pushed one of your team’s players when the referee wasn’t watching. In Tony’s defense, everybody reacted loudly to that. But no one had the passion Tony had when he leapt up like a fucking Jack in the Box, fists thrown in the air. “What the fuck!?” he screamed to no one in particular.
“Yeah, what the fuck!?” you echoed, cupping your hands around your mouth.
“You fucking blind ass, stupid piece of shit, punkass bitch!” he raged, pupils dilated and eyebrows furrowed.
“Okay, never mind.” You promptly sat down, trying to pull Tony with you but he shook you off fervently. You thought he resembled the fucking Tasmanian Devil from Looney Toons.
“That was a foul! Why don’t you use your fucking whistle, you trick ass little bitch?! Try blowing something other than your own dick for once!” he screamed at the referee, shaking his arms around wildly.
“Jesus Christ,” you whispered, putting your head in your hands as he ranted on and on for another ten seconds before finally sitting down, cursing steadily to himself.
When your team made an effortless basket, you prayed it would calm Tony down. And to some extent it did work and he kept quiet until the first quarter was up, only rolling his eyes when people turned to look at him.
Ignoring them from that moment on, he tilted his head as he watched Sam send a wink to a girl who only rolled her eyes playfully in response. “Who’s that?”
“Sam.”
“I know that’s Sam, I’m asking who the girl is.”
“Sam’s girlfriend, Sam,” you replied as you laughed at his expression of confusion.
“Sam has a girlfriend… named Sam?” You nodded as he sighed, smiling despite himself. “Fuck, what would their couple name be?”
“Well, they’re Sam and Sam. Or as I like to call them,” you dropped your voice as he raised an amused eyebrow, “Sam.”
“That’s so fucking creative, how did you ever think of that name?” he asked, a smile on his face that made him look ten times less stressed than he’d been mere moments ago.
You actually didn’t mind Tony at that moment. You might have even considered him to be fun.
That was until the next quarter started and the referee called a foul on Sam for apparently no reason and Tony was back on his feet, face red like one of those ugly Angry Birds. He then started in a shrieking voice, “Oh, so now you want to blow that whistle, you piece of utter shi–“
Tony gave you a ride back to your apartment after the game which had ended much later than you thought it would. You knew Bucky had left after the third quarter when he sent you a text saying he needed to get up early for his shift, but he asked you to call him when you got home safe.
You wondered if he was still awake but, as you’d promised, you called him the moment you crossed the building threshold.
“Hello?” his rasped in an infinitely exhausted voice– you instantly regretted calling him.
“Hey, fuck, sorry. I didn’t think you’d be asleep. I’ll talk to you tomorrow, get some rest,” you said hurriedly, guilt seeping through your words.
“No, no, it’s fine,” he paused and you could hear him yawn despite the muffling over the line. “Is everything fine, baby?”
“Yeah everything’s– wait, what did you just call me?” you asked as you bit your tongue and your eyebrows shot up in surprise.
The silence you were met with was quickly followed by a string of curses, presumably since he perceived what he’d said. His voice was clearer as he replied, “Shit. Sorry, Mario. It just slipped out. I’m, like, half dead. Is everything alright?”
“Yeah. Just called to talk about the king of anger paralysis, clone of Charlie Sheen, Tasmanian Devil embodiment–”
Bucky cut you off with a sigh. “Tony?”
“Oh, yes. Wanna hear all about my super great time with dear Squidward or should I save it for tomorrow?” you asked as you jogged up the stairs to your apartment.
You could hear rustling on the other end before he yawned once again, saying lightly, “I’m ready. Go on for as long as you want.”
“It all started when he called the referee a ‘fucking blind ass, stupid piece of shit, punkass bitch.’”
Bucky sighed. “Oh, shits.”

A Glimpse of Our Connected Tech Future, Courtesy of CES 2020
LAS VEGAS — Like it or not, the future is connected.
Your next car will probably connect to the internet. So will your TV and doorknobs. One day, you may even adopt a robot companion capable of analyzing its environment and reacting to your actions in real time.
That future, or at least a glimmer of it, was on display at CES, the giant consumer electronics trade show that attracted more than 170,000 attendees here this week.
This year’s annual event — the first one took place in 1967 — featured more than 4,500 exhibitors, including tech companies big and small from all over the world, and sprawled across 2.9 million square feet at the Las Vegas Convention Center, the Wynn casino, the Venetian and a handful of other venues around town.
The conference was a window into where the industry is pouring huge amounts of resources and investment, hoping that the year’s hottest tech trends — like artificially intelligent virtual assistants, connected cars and foldable screens — will become everyday fixtures in our lives.
The enormous conference was also an opportunity for tech observers to make predictions about the innovations that might become popular and the gadgets that will probably flop in the coming years.
Among the questionable tech trends were foldable screens, demonstrated by TCL, Lenovo and Dell, among others. Lenovo showed its ThinkPad X1 Fold, a Windows foldable tablet. Unfolded, it measured about 13 diagonal inches, and folded up, it looked compact like a book.
That may sound neat, but not everyone is optimistic about foldable screens. Frank Gillett, a technology analyst for Forrester Research, predicted that foldable devices would be unpopular, largely because of their high price tags and limited use cases.
Case in point: Samsung’s Galaxy Fold, its first foldable smartphone priced at nearly $2,000, was a failure after early reports of the device breaking after light use. Lenovo’s X1 Fold will cost about $2,500 when it arrives this year.
“Foldables — the pun is too tempting — will be a flop,” Mr. Gillett said.
Amazon and Google were among the biggest players at CES, each boasting about how awesome their personal assistants were.
Google said its virtual assistant is now used by more than 500 million people a month across more than 90 countries.
Last year, Amazon’s Alexa-powered Echo speakers dominated the global smart speaker market with about 25 percent of share, ahead of Baidu and Google, according to Canalys, a research firm. And the market for smart speakers keeps growing.
It is still unclear, however, whether consumers want to do much with virtual assistants as they continue to get smarter. Studies have shown that people mostly use Alexa and Google Assistant for basic tasks like playing music and checking the weather. Paying for gas (which Amazon wants you to do) sounds like a stretch.
Still, Dave Limp, Amazon’s head of hardware devices, was bullish. He said that even if Alexa users only occasionally used the assistant’s more advanced capabilities, that was still significant.
“Customers interact with Alexa billions of times a week,” he said. “Even one of many things that they’re doing can add up to be a pretty big thing.”
Self-driving cars are still far from fruition, but tech companies highlighted features that could help people drive more safely.
Samsung showed a car equipped with its Exynos Auto V9 computing processor, which can run applications on multiple screens and pull information from up to 12 cameras. The system was designed to simultaneously provide entertainment like videos to passengers in the back seat while providing safety-assistance apps to drivers, the company said.
Amazon also showed off its automotive prowess, displaying cars from Lamborghini and the auto start-up Rivian that now include Alexa personal-assistant capabilities.
New auto safety features may ultimately prove to be the most practical and useful things to come out of CES this year.
Safety-assistance apps that alert drivers to vehicles in their blind spots or help them park automatically should be a boon to consumers, said Carolina Milanesi, a technology analyst for Creative Strategies.
“We’re looking more at talking about safety and saving lives versus, ‘It’s super cool, your car comes to you when you call it,’” Ms. Milanesi said.

New Zealand Property Tech, Transitioning from Tech to Practicing Real Estate: An Interview with Alistair Helm
Alistair Helm has been a longtime property tech thought leader based out of New Zealand, with a deep resume that includes Properazzi, manning the helm at both Property Portal Watch and Realestate.co.nz, and head of product at Trade Me. We traded emails recently, and I learned he was working on getting his real estate license. I wanted to learn more, so conducted a short interview. Let’s get to it…
1. After more than a decade in the property portal space, you’re getting your real estate license in New Zealand — why? What’s been the most surprising part of that process?
Yes – in someways it seems very natural to practice real estate after all these years, and in other ways somewhat odd. I love the digital world and the property portal space, but I guess having been a part of building the two big players in the property portal space in NZ over a 10 year period there was not much space left for me to fill. Add to this, the fact that I am not someone that enjoys bureaucracy and process management in large organisations, I love the flexibility and agility of growing businesses and these two portals have become large and somewhat corporatised.
So I thought – what do I want to do that is still in real estate but that suits my age and future life? – I could try and start something new, as in a new real estate company shaking things up – some industry friends have encouraged me to start a whole new real estate business which whilst appealing, is probably not the best idea at this time after all I have never sat on ’that side of the table’, as an agent. So this has in someways lead me to actually enter this industry as an agent. I feel the need to practice the role so as to be in a better place to decide in a couple of years as to whether I try and start up a new real estate business that challenges the incumbents or whether I decide that actually being a real estate agent is a good place and financially rewarding. I happen to live in one of the most beautiful suburbs in Auckland, and where better to practice as an agent that in my neighbourhood?
I back myself to implement all the educational ideas that I have shared with agents across NZ over the past decade as to how to build a personal brand online and deliver prospects that find you rather than you finding them – that is my challenge.
I have completed my training which in NZ is a formal qualification administered by our Educational Standards organisation – it is a course that in full time study requires 3 months of work, I have done it part-time which has taken my 6 months. I have been amazed at how it has changed, I did complete the course back in 2005 when it was so very different, in those days the course lasted 2 weeks of half days and one single test at the end of the course – it was hard to fail! That has been the most surprising thing, just how high the bar has been raised by the new legislation that was introduced in 2008 which tightened up the whole industry and brought in a government authority to administer, police and certify the industry.
2. You’ve been covering the property tech space for many years, what trend or product are you most excited about over the next 12-24 months?
I have long considered the statement that ‘The disruptive tech that you think will impact the next few years, actually doesn’t or ends up taking much longer, and equally those things you think are pipe dreams actually come to market far faster and have more impact” – so with that as a primer here is my take.
I don’t believe the heart of real estate will change or be disrupted by new online only solutions (UK based initiatives – such as Purple Bricks etc), they will have a place but sub 10% of market, just as FSBO has always had a place. The big winners I see as the likes of Redfin (of which I have always been bullish and hugely respectful), to them I now add Compass, not for the tech, in my opinion their tech component is vapour ware, but for the PR and brand presence and rockstar operators they are employing – there is more to my comments and whilst not teasing a future Properazzi post I see Compass peaking soon but Redfin enduring.
The real tech play for me is OpenDoor and its competitors but again this operation will never be mainstream and will only work in the US to any scale, due to the archaic property records systems. In NZ by comparison the closing process takes literally minutes due to a fully digitised system that has been in operation for 10 years. OpenDoor meets a need and will succeed in specific markets at specific price points where homogeneity of property allows for incredibly accurate estimation of valuation and regular turnover. It will not scale more broadly, but undoubtedly efficiency of operation will create a very valuable business and a great customer experience.
My view of what I see as a significant game changer in respect of tech’s impact on this industry lies in the power of AI leveraged by Google or Amazon. The platform is the Amazon Echo and the Google Home, the threat is to Zillow in the case of the US / Rightmove & Zoopla in the case of the UK / REA & Domain the case of Australia and I could go on. The fact is property portals are vulnerable as they are but intermediaries and liable to disintermediation. Suffice to say (no pun intended) but a prospective buyer could ‘ask’ “hey Google” or “hey Alexa” are there any properties available for me to buy in Oak Hills, Portland. The results would be projected on a screen, any screen – TV or tablet directly sourced from MLS data or in non US markets the aggregation of agent listings online, the parsing of the phrase “available for me to buy” would use AI to establish capability of the consumer to buy and budget criteria. In this scenario, where is Zillow’s future or that of the other portals? – people are very close to trusting Google / Amazon. As to monetisation of this service – lead generation fees plus finance opportunities (think Amazon finance) will be the honey of attraction for Google/Amazon. Again more of this idea and proposition is a future Properazzi post.
3. What’s your most significant business focus for 2018?
My focus is to achieve my success in practicing real estate as an agent. I have a clear objective that within 3 years I will be the #1 agent in my hyper local areas of Devonport with a 15% share of the local market. To do this I will build my brand through a combination of digital platforms. Properazzi is the platform that establishes me as a property analyst and commentator on the market and the real estate industry, it gives me a media platform and online presence that is contextual to real estate at a high credible level. To this I am establishing myself as a unique and trusted expert in the hyperlocal property market of Devonport in which I am going to be starting work as a local agent, to support this I am launching a dedicated local property market website (www.devonportproperty.nz) – this will be a unique commentary and deep-data driven insight into the trends in the local market that will establish my brand as the agent in the market with the best insight into property trends. Added to this naturally I will have my own personal agent website which will be purely about me, my skills, capability, experience and personality – www.alistairhelm.co.nz – will be live when I get my license which should be by the end of March.
Thanks Alistair!

Princess Indigo premièred by Triple Threat Workshop for Kids at the Landis Theater in Vineland
By: Ricky Young-Howze
It was a very colorful night last night at the Landis Theater of Vineland as Triple Threat Workshop for Kids debuted Princess Indigo onstage for the first time. This staged reading of the play with music and lyrics by Dakota Mullins and a book by Caitlin Geisser teamed up with an epic group of Vineland kids to tell the story of one lonely color who feels awash and overwhelmed in the rainbow of her town.
This story follows the journey of Princess Indigo (played by Lena Dougherty) the heir to Huesville, a vibrant town full of color. For some reason all of these colors overwhelm Indigo and put her “in a Tizzy”. But why? Her best friend Winkle (played by Craig Mulhern) tries to help her find out. To make matters worse the Queen and King (played by Megan Castellane and Matthew Lischin respectively) put her in charge of the of the Independence Day Celebration and leave town for the week. Her best “friends” Goldie (played by Heather Raguckas) and Pearl (played by Julianna Giordano) along with the rest of the town have several ideas of how she should do that. Can Princess Indigo find out why she isn’t happy in Huesville and find a way to be happy while living in harmony with the rest of the colorful world around her?

The book by Caitlin Geisser takes us on a journey through a world of characters that has laid near and dear to her heart since she first wrote about them in kindergarten with her father’s help. So the story has been in a lifelong process of development that has culminated in this staged reading. They have workshopped this with the cast through rehearsals and made slight changes to scenes and songs. After this reading she and Mullins will go back to the drawing board and see what worked in front of the audience and what didn’t. I hope they don’t change the fun and cute tone. This is a wonderful story to us as a vehicle to discuss children with disabilities and invisible disabilities (a subject everyone should know is very dear to my heart). I also hope that they don’t change our main characters as they were brilliantly portrayed and translated by their respective actors. In fact if the entire show was those six actors playing all the parts I would have still loved it and cheered with gusto.

I do hope that she feels free to dig in and explores the interpersonal relationships of these characters more. I feel that the conflict and plot, while cute, was not as strong as the young actors yet and now is an opportunity to take already wonderful characters even farther.
The music and lyrics by Dakota Mullins led to some really great songs such as “Bluer Blues”, “A Trusty Friend”, and “Golden Opportunity”. Both were really good character moments and gave a song with a lot of “meat on the bone” for the young performers to really dig in and have fun with. I would say that I missed more songs that dove into the color puns and wordplay. With so few songs in this short play every song every one has got to count. I also would say that I missed a true “eleven o'clock” number where the entire ensemble got to shine and I had no choice but to clap. I feel like this is a “golden opportunity” to look back at the songs and make some already great songs even more spectacular.
The audience sat on the stage to make the performance more intimate.

Dougherty and Mulhern made me smile as Indigo and Winkle. It was great to see the chemistry between these true blue friends. Castellane and Lischin were wonderful as Queen and King I just wished that they had more to do because I found myself noticing what they were doing even when they were standing just offstage getting a “tan”. Raguckas and Giordano were wonderful as Goldie and Pearl. I totally believed them as a duo and were totally invested in their friendship and how they related to Indigo and Winkle, I would only love to see the conflict more developed between the four “friends” because they are the meat and potatoes of the entire story.
Of course I want to give a big shout out to an epic ensemble of young performers without whom this play would not have been possible. If the first six were the meat and potatoes then these guys and gals are the flavors and seasonings that made it a dish. These performers really stood out from the background and deserve the highest praise. Alison Burke, Calista Boxczyck, Kayla Cleary, Jared DeShields, Gianna Dotti, Alicia Ellis, Amanda Ellis, Sebastian Gonzalez, Madekyn Kavanagh, Rachel Lischin, Ferdinand Moscat, Aaliyah Ridgeway, Alana Sasdelli, Alexa St. Clair, Chloe Swift.
I would really love to see this play’s development in the future. I can see this show getting real polish and touring to schools all over. I expect great things from these two writers and all of the young performers that they worked with. I just with that I can be there to see these great things as they happen.
Princess Indigo was performed as a stage reading by the Triple Threat Workshop for Players at the Landis Theatre. You can go to their website here for more information about their upcoming productions.
