Finished watching Pokemón Movie: I Choose You!
And I loved it. ♥
Tumblr media
As people know, I spoiled myself on the movie back when it had pre-screening in France during July, so I didn’t go totally blind on this movie. And y’know, it didn’t matter much, because I still managed to enjoy it (it probably managed to make me enjoy it way more than without reading spoilers), and aside from pacing problems and me not really liking Rocket Gang’s appearance in this movie, I’ll definitely rewatch this movie again. And I totally recommend it. Most important question from you guys is probably the following: did I cry? The answer? Hell yeah!

Whenever I’ve tried watching either 4kids or TPCI dub of the Pokeani Series, I never really found myself liking how Ash Ketchum’s voice sounded like compared to Rica Matsumoto’s work as Satoshi. But I have to go back with my words now. I think Sarah Natochenny totally nailed it in this movie.
The Youtube Link I watched the movie from just stopped working (or it stopped the moment I clicked the link so I got DARN lucky), so I can’t provide any more screenshots except from few scenes. But my god I loved Pikachu in this movie, I grew to like Verity quite a bit, and I’m still laughing at Bonji being Dr. Eggman (since it’s Mike Pollock) in my head :D I just kept picturing a happy evil Doctor fanboying about Ho-oh. Thanks Sonic Fan in my head. You ruined that character for me. XD

But this scene! Good lord let me tell you, I cried so god damn much I literarily started to have a headache. The emotions, the way Ash forced Pikachu to go into the ball to save him! I freaking loved how they did this scene!
I don’t care if people find Pikachu talking human language odd, to me it felt more like Ash understanding what Pikachu is saying, rather than Pikachu actually saying the lines. I know the lipsync would sort of suggest real human language, but I don’t see it as such. Either way, it was an emotional moment, and I bursted to tears at that scene. The way Pikachu reacts to Ash’s death after coming out of the ball ;_; Oh my god.
As much as I loved the movie thou, I have few gripes. Main gripe being what I mentioned before, the pacing. I don’t know if it was because of the TV format by Disney XD, but often times some scenes jumped to other scene so abruptly that I got confused for a moment. And that happened quite a bit throughout the movie. However, the scenery was beautiful, and animation was the most gorgeus thing I’ve yet seen in Pokemon movies. It’s clear they put a lot of love into this. Great celebration for 20th anniversary in my honest opinion.
There’s probably a lot of scenes i’d love to talk about, but I’m not sure how to talk of them really. So if you got questions or just wanna chat, send an ask or hit a message! I’m happy to talk about the movie! :)

This movie is gorgeus, and so far I'm not annoyed by the voices at all! Let's see how it evolves :D

So I rewatched I Choose You/Kimi ni Kimeta, this time in japanese. The subtitles were horrible and definitely seemed to be translated from spanish subtitles, but anyway. I still find the plot kind of a mess? But I did enjoy it. I cried at Butterfree scene, and I still cry at the end when Pikachu “talks“. Ohtani, you nailed it ;A; Just listen to it! And having the original soundtrack remasters made it a better experience to me. Made it feel more nostalgic, even if it really isn’t one for me.
Now I kinda should go back to watching the Johto episodes in dub, but I feel lazy. :’D
