I need a place to put my Another Eden lore dropping, time shattering posts at. All content is potentially spoilery for readers.
So first: Main character is Aldo/Sorrik/Kyros/Eden(but not really)
Prof. Chronos had a wife and two children. I literally forgot their moms name sorry, I think it was Mika(Wrong, Madoka Magica). Then, an experiment went wrong when Prof was trying to undo the Xeno Prisim issues with space time, but had sent him and the family back in time. Some time before, they had a cat named Kyros.
In 300 AD, Sorrik somehow found a wormhole and wandered away from a child in Baruoki, while Aldo/Sorrik heard the cries for the cat. In this, Sorrik was transported and became Kyros.
After the family split up, the father went to the far past, like I think 1100 BCE or smth. Both Kyros & Feinne/Cecile need up in 300AD, and Eden, the real one, had been dropped off in the void to become Chronos Manual or smth.
Madoka who? Dunno who you’re talking about.
SO. The Beast King Guildna jus was in the Moonlight Forest one day and found baby Feinne/Cecile. Some time after Guildna left and the gramps & mayor of Baruoki came in, The power of some green gem or whatever convoluted name reacted and yielding to the power of Feinne wanting company, transformed Sorrik/Kyros, who is a cat, into a human boy in the likeness of Eden.
After, both were named Feinne and Aldo respectively.
Alright! All the lore behind this convoluted start of a mes wrapped up, I’m going to collapse and ignore my Tumblr again due to this annoying mess of a somewhat compelling story that both itches and jabs my brain both pleasurably and not.

Another Eden giving me the other side of hope that so many rpgs are scared of omg
Wander in the Binding Night Spoilers under the cut
The way Nona is dealing with what her mother has become, and Aldo’s reaction to it is so refreshing, especially for a jrpg like this!
Normally characters in a setting where Mom Has Become A Universe Destroying Monster are full of hope, and all “we’ll find a way to save her AND the universe! it’ll be okay” or if they lose faith, their friends boost them with the message.
Instead, Nona immediately recognizes that if she holds on to any hope that her mother is still in there, she just won’t be able to kill her if it comes down to that, even if that means the whole universe dies. And she recognizes there’s a very good chance that that’s the scenario they’re looking at. So she says “No, if there was anything left of my mother in there, she would never. She’s not mom anymore. And if i think of it like this I can do what needs to be done.”
Aldo meanwhile, ever the supportive friend, at first goes “no wait, there’s still hope” because usually that is what you do in this scenario. But instead Nona chastises him for not catching on and putting more psychological and emotional strain on her, and he listens.
He doesn’t like it, but he gets that she can’t afford to have hope about her mom still being alive in some way. She can’t handle the thought of her mother being aware of what’s happening and yet either unable or unwilling to stop herself. And she definitely won’t be able to handle killing her mother if that hope doesn’t pan out.
But that’s okay because Aldo can quietly have hope for Nona, instead of pushing it on her. He can keep eyes out for actual signs that her mother isn’t beyond saving, and if a path opens up, Nona can get herself some fresh new hope from her friend.
There probably is a speech from Aldo forthcoming about how it’s clear to him Nona’s mom still exists and there must be a way to save her, but that speech will come from a place of hope backed by hard evidence, and respect for Nona’s situation. Instead of being recklessly flung in her face.
So few pieces of media talk about how hope can be a double-edged and dangerous thing! Or about how there’s a time and place for pure faith-based optimism! And if you know you emotionally cannot handle having hope it’s fine to let other people hold onto it for you until its safe to take it back!! Sometimes it’s good to be wary of false hope if the consequences are that the entire time layer and everyone who has ever lived in all of history rots away!!!
#another eden#nona#aldo#this game is sometimes so simple and tropey#and other times the most nuanced and realistic take on the human condition#it’s such a fucking rollercoaster i adore it

Another Eden's "Gender Unknown" 5★s: Ciel and Clarte
Ciel and Clarte are the only 5★ characters in the game listed as having 'unknown' gender, despite both being referred to with he/him in English.
Ciel
Ciel's quests involve many scenes where he is assumed to be a girl. Even Aldo thinks that he's a girl until the first time he says that he's a boy. Some of Himmel!Ciel's fans argue about what gender he is.
Ciel does not express much discomfort with being misgendered. Both Ciel and Himmel!Ciel say that they don't care about the concept of gender. Ciel is only once upset by someone refusing to believe that he is a boy after saying so.
Ciel's event quest, Foreign Skies and the Ship to Freedom, has themes of the oppression queer people face. A vague description to avoid spoilers would be that Ciel's parents and older sisters grew up in a highly oppressive environment that punished deviance from the norm, and wanted Ciel to live without bearing that past. His family and family friends are described as "eccentric" by the narration, and "loonies" by the antagonists.
I interpret Ciel's 'unknown' gender as representing how crossdressing can be a genderqueer act, and that while he identifies as a boy he isn't upset by being assumed to be a girl, implying he is not attached to being cis or binary.
Clarte
Clarte's ENG voice actor is a man, and their JP voice actor is a woman. While the actress is said to be 'typecasted as young men', her performance for Clarte is sometimes ambiguous.
Clarte's TVTropes.org entry for 'ambiguous gender' says that some of their sprite's stock animation rigs are ones used mostly or only otherwise by female characters. I don't have any recorded, but I can remember seeing them have animations used more often by women than men.
The strongest lore about Clarte being nonbinary are heavy spoilers for the final chapter of Mythos: Song of Sword and Wings of Lost Paradise. I will stay as vague as possible but it will be below the cut nonetheless.
The English localization uses he/him for Clarte, and I'm a bit disappointed that this is the case as their lore would make they/them most accurate.
However, I don't believe it to be malicious. I'm assuming that as the story released in parts, the people translating/writing the early story didn't know Clarte was explicitly implied to be nonbinary by their lore. There's a line in Ciel's event story where his mother refers to him with she/her. Localization teams being split from the writers and/or being outsourced leads to mistakes. Another Eden also just has poor proofreading with occasional typos and spelling errors being normal.
The fun interpretation of this would be that Clarte is nonbinary and transmasculine, choosing to go by he/him despite having no assigned gender. Being referred to with he/him doesn't mean that the EN localization suddenly decided that Clarte is a cis male, just that they go by he/him. I personally am going to use they/him.
Most basically, Clarte was "made" for a purpose. The purpose was not related to emulating humans, so they very likely have no genitals at all, as there would be no reason for them to have any. Thus, they have no sex, and no way to be cis.
TVTropes says that NPCs from where Clarte is from express "confusion over what Clarte's gender is", and that they were supposed to "be neither male nor female".
I have found the NPC that says Clarte has no gender, and while it's worded differently from the TVTropes, it says the same thing: that Clarte has no gender.

It's been a week since the release of the Octopath × Another Eden crossover! Here are my mini-reviews of their plots, which means spoilers for the crossover (none for the Octopath games as far as I could tell). I'll go in Octopath's (technically) chronological order so it'll be CotC, then OT, then OT 2.
I hope you enjoy!
tldr: It was nice :)
Future - Dressed in Fame (Tithi, Nicola + Suzette)
Can't believe they took two people from a fantasy renaissance era and made them a tiktok dancer and a video essayist youtuber.
Granted it was in a simulation to try and create an algorithm for harvesting fame but even after stopping that these two still wanted to actually become streamers/youtubers with their new friend.
A very fun story! Tithi and Nicola and Aldo being unfamiliar about about the modern times and video technology and things like that ends up with some silly moments where they just stop and ask "What does this even mean???".
Shout out to Nicola for being the "brains" of the group and also referencing her Thief job by stealthily stealing the cursed ring. Very cool.
Present - Some Small Power (Cyrus, Olberic, H'aanit + Shion)
My favorite! The final boss is also technically not the main villain himself but a poor animal he ends up controlling.
I really liked how this story incorporated Olberic and H'aanit. Olberic's stance on fighting to protect the peace and H'annit's on how nature must be respected but also cared for are well done and I liked it a lot! Cyrus is Cyrus, he's very silly and I love him. Shion didn't show up much but it was nice to see him when he did.
Also I like how it ties into the Octopath novel and minor lore a bit! It's just small bits like the year and Cyrus' dynamic with H'aanit as far as I could tell but it was lovely to see!
Also I really like this moment from the very beginning of this story:
Olberic: ...Did that person just appear out of thin air?
Cyrus: I'd say it was more like a distortion of some sort. That solves the mystery of how we came to be here, then.
H'aanit: It most certainly doth not!
Antiquity - The Sickness Wealth Brings (Partitio, Castti, Temenos + Shanie)
Partitio once again woke up and chose violence because of someone's abhorrent actions
And even after the boss battle, when the villain ends up with amnesia after loosing his cursed ring, Partitio goes "Great, you're back to normal! I'm still holding you accountable for all of this."
Nothing much to say here really. Solid story, solid characterization, Shanie and Castti's friendship was cute and I really liked Temenos here.
Journey's End (Final Chapter)
They called a dungeon "Journey's End" and it has an abandoned train stop theme. Absolute peak.
Can't believe I encountered another character who played a false role for decades to hopefully save people from a tragic fate and couldn't reveal the truth. I'm bummed Odysso never got to see his sister again and that he passed away when his mission was complete, but at least he left his finished journal for his old friend and Aldo and was able to move on more-or-less peacefully. The toast Aldo and the friend made in Odysso's name also hurt my heart. Heartbreaking, bittersweet and a nice conclusion to the story.
#I have many problems with Octopath CotC and some with Another Eden as well so I'm very happy with how Octolight Conductors ended up!#If you play Another Eden but haven't played the crossover or the Octopath games please do!#octopath traveler#octopath traveler 2#octopath cotc#another eden
