Man, it’s cringe to actually think that Alden Greene deserved a redemption arc. Don’t you agree that it’s cringe to think that this character who did unforgivable things deserved a redemption arc?

Headcanon ideas about the Green family (separately plz):
1. How Scott’s relationship with his family (mainly his father and brother) would be after he got out of jail.
2. How Scott, Paul, and Oliver would be after the death of Alden (he died in Case 58; The Sting of Death in Pacific Bay).
Well, this is a blast from the past! Let me see what I can come up with after refreshing myself with Family Blood…
How Scott’s relationship with his family (mainly his father and brother) would be after he got out of jail.
Hard to say. Paul didn’t strike me as much of a family man, so it wouldn't surprise me if he and Scott had a non-existent relationship after Scott was imprisoned for 20 years. Then again, if he’s anything like Alden, who was going to build a house for Scott to live in after his release, Paul might put on a convincing act for others to make it seem like he loves his son despite him killing Aileen.
For Oliver, given that he was a baby when Scott was arrested, he wouldn't have a preexisting relationship with his brother. However, I did get the impression that Scott genuinely loves his baby brother, so I can see him trying to maintain a good relationship with Oliver even while in prison. But that depends on whether Paul allows Oliver to visit his brother. There would also be the fact that Scott killed Oliver’s mother, and while Oliver wouldn't remember Aileen due to being a baby at the time of the murder, he could resent his brother for taking away his chance to grow up with Aileen in his life even if she wasn’t the picture-perfect mother.
How Scott, Paul, and Oliver would be after the death of Alden (he died in Case 58; The Sting of Death in Pacific Bay).
Scott: He’d be sad since he would have good memories with Alden from his childhood despite all the bad things Alden did in Grimsborough and Pacific Bay. He would mourn the loss of the grandfather he loved but not of the madman who killed two people for his personal gain. And given that he would still be in prison when Alden died, he probably grieved alone and wasn’t able to attend the funeral.
Paul: He would mourn the loss of his father, but he would try to put on a brave face and seem strong while in the presence of others. But in private, he would let himself let go. I could see Alden having raised Paul to think it's wrong for men to cry, so Paul wouldn't allow himself to be seen crying over his father’s death, not even at the funeral. And while he might hate Alden for what he did when he was still alive (unless Paul was in the Crimson Order too, but that’s just a thought I had), he still looked up to the man for a long time, and it's hard to forget that.
Oliver: Since he would be a toddler at most when Alden died, he wouldn’t truly understand what it meant for his grandfather to be dead. He would be sad, given he would see other people being sad, but he wouldn’t know why. When he gets older, he would wonder what it would have been like to know Alden, but he won't miss him since it's hard to miss someone you never knew… And with the stories he would grow up hearing, like his grandfather being a famous CEO, killing two people, being a member of the Crimson Order and then dying in Pacific Bay, he’d probably have mixed views on Alden.
Thanks for the ask! I never thought about these three after Family Blood, so it was interesting to consider how they would act in these situations.

The Man Behind the Park
Mare Island’s Alden Park is famous for the many trees from around the world that are planted there because of the happy coincidence of Rear Admiral James Alden’s botanical interests and his service as the Commandant of Mare Island Naval Shipyard from 1868 to 1869. It was because of this interest that Alden requested ship captains to bring him trees from around the Pacific for planting on the once barren island. RADM Alden had a distinguished naval career, and he was no stranger to the West Coast and the North Bay. He served in the Mexican American War in the 1840’s and he led a hydrographic survey party of Mare Island and the North Bay in the 1850’s. With the outbreak of the Civil War was involved in a couple of watershed events prior to continuing his navy service which included his tour of duty as Mare Island’s commandant before ultimately retiring as the Commander of the United States European Fleet in 1873. Alden’s Civil War service involved him in a couple of ignominious Civil War events.
As the Nation sat on the precipice of our bloodiest war, concern grew in the Capital over the fate of warships in the Gosport Navy Yard (today known as the Norfolk Naval Shipyard) in Virginia. Virginia was a slave state and was clearly about to join the Confederacy. Our soon to be Union Navy consisted of 90 ships, only half of which were in commission, and those were scattered around the world. Several of these vital warships were stuck in the Gosport Navy Yard and it was clear that work was being delayed by southern sympathizers to keep those ships in the yard and out of Union hands if war broke out. President Lincoln and Secretary of the Navy, Gideon Wells, were intimately involved in the crisis and decided to act when, in response to a request to rapidly complete work on the 40-gun steam sloop, Merrimac, so that she could sortie (basically to get her out of rebel hands). The yard responded that she was so torn apart it would require at least a month for her to be put in condition to leave the shipyard. Alarmed by what was felt to be obvious intent to delay the ship based on the response, they sent the navy engineer, Benjamin Isherwood, and a line officer, James Alden, to Gosport to remove the Merrimac to safety. Isherwood was successful in hiring local workers to have the Merrimac’s boilers reinstalled and the ship was ready to leave within 4 days. All that remained was for the line officer, Alden, to captain the ship to safety, but there was a problem.
Despite the orders of the Secretary of the Navy, the Commandant of the Gosport Navy Yard, Commodore Charles Stewart McCauley, equivocated refusing to allow the Merrimac to leave. Worried over the lack of a proper Navy crew (Isherwood had hired local personnel to man the ship), and her ability to get by barricades erected downstream on the Elizabeth River, he believed the Merrimac (and another ship she planned to tow out of the yard) would be destroyed by the rebels. Isherwood was furious and appealed unsuccessfully several times to the Commandant of the Yard to allow the ships to get underway. Unable to get the Commandant's approval to sail, Isherwood then appealed directly to James Alden to sail the Merrimac away under the authority of the Secretary of the Navy, but Alden would not agree to disobey the Commandant. Unable to sail, and as passions escalated, it became evident they had no choice, but to get out of Virginia. Both Isherwood and Alden were lucky to escape Southern sympathizers’ intent on capturing them, while the Commandant of the Yard ordered the facilities and ships burned to keep them out of the hands of the rebels. Both James Alden and Charles Stewart McCauley suffered public outrage over their conduct for not removing Merrimac from the shipyard before it was too late. Merrimac was sunk at the dock and her topsides burned, but her war was not over.
The rebels raised Merrimac and rebuilt her as an ironclad ram rechristened the CSS Virginia. She then set about destroying the Union blockade in Hampton Roads that was seriously impeding their war effort. Virginia was easily able to sink two of the wooden Union ships and ran one aground before the Union responded by building the ironclad, MONITOR. The two iron clads then famously clashed on March 9, 1862, where they fought each other to a draw and forever changed naval warfare.
Then two years later RADM Alden once again distinguished himself in a somewhat unfavorable way. By that point in the war the Union Plan to strangle the South with a naval blockade was in full swing. Then the Union Fleet moved to capture the South’s last major port at Mobile Bay, Alabama. It was ADM Farragut’s plan as the fleet commander to run his fleet under the guns of Fort Morgan rather than attempting to reduce the fort first. To do so the fleet must transit the narrow channel in front of the fort as quickly as possible or risk being destroyed by the fort’s guns. As the Union Fleet attempted to run that gauntlet a Union monitor struck a mine (called a torpedo back then) and sank in seconds. In response to that sinking RADM Alden, whose warship USS Brooklyn was behind the monitor, reversed engines slowing and turning trapping the rest of the fleet in column under the rebel guns. It was to him that ADM Farragut exclaimed one of the most famous phrases in naval history “Damn the torpedoes full speed ahead.” Alden ordered his ship forward and the US fleet entered the bay defeating the confederate ships located within.
As for Isherwood, he escaped the controversy over the attempt to remove Merrimac from the Gosport Shipyard and he became the Chief Engineer of the Navy. Isherwood went on to oversee tremendous technological innovation and a huge naval buildup, but he would face a turn of fortune following the end of the war. After the Civil War the Navy was evolving, but it was still dominated by line officers bred under the increasingly obsolete culture of sail even though naval ships were increasingly powered by machinery that those line officers knew little about. In the rank conscious navy low ranking engineering personnel carried little authority despite their critical role. Isherwood sought to correct that imbalance by increasing the rank and status of engineering officers but soon ran afoul of the entrenched naval bureaucracy. Isherwood eventually was essentially banished by those traditionalists to Mare Island for his enthusiastic promotion of increased status of the engineer. True to his nature, rather than brood about the rough hand he had been dealt, Isherwood used his time at Mare Island to develop, test and establish a new standard for propellers for our navy, but that is another story for another time.

High energy celebrations and ritual
Astral projection/travel
Divinations
Cord cuttings
Create a Brigid’s Cross
Gardening (best time to start to plant seeds)
Make resolution(s) and goal(s) for the year ahead (I'll fight to the DEATH about my personal opinion that this is a better time for resolutions than New Years itself. Best time for renewal and goal setting)
Ritual to say farewell to winter
Make bread
Spring clean! It’s the best time for it
Low energy celebrations
Starting a manifestation journal
Burning a bay leaf with manifestation on it
Planning in your planner
Lighting a candle in honour
Make a cup of tea
Practice self care
No spoon celebrations
Prayer
Putting on sun lamp
Greet the sun at sunrise
Rest
How you celebrate the holiday does not matter. You can choose to do any activity that feels right. These are only suggestions and remember that you're enough no matter what.
Also please note some stuff is UPG. A great book is Year of the Witch by Temperance Alden for honouring the celebrations and if you wanted to work more seasonally. It's not wiccan based and has plenty of resources for every witch.

KOTLC INFECTION AU I MADE EARLIER THIS YEAR (i think)
HISTORY/SUMMARY + NOTES:
The infection started with an experiment gone wrong in Kelsers lab. He is the first one to get infected. In hopes to not infect and hurt his family, he ran away into the Wandering Woods. He goes missing for several months. After a bit, someone visited the woods and happened to come by Kelser. But... He wasn't Kelser anymore. He was a hungry and contorted monster. And he's starving... That's how the infection spreads. As said in the canon, most minds break of they commit some form of violence. A lot of elves come and gone just from defending themselves, but some elves (such as The Neverseen, Fitz, and Tam) have a stronger will and are used to violence, hence their minds being harder to shatter. They can fight back easily with their strong minds. The other elves are stronger than the others, and their guilty mind set slower (though, these sorts of elves aren't stronger than the previously mentioned ones). The council, despite the many pleas, are completely silent. They aren't responding or acting out on the situation. This is leading some people to join the Neverseen, just so they can have protection. Though, the Neverseen only take a few people. The Black Swan has been silent as well. No one is answering their imparters. The abilities are useless against the infected, no matter how rare or powerful your ability may be. The infected aren't affected by any ability. Note, Mysterium is currently under quarantine, the only decision the council has made that the public now about. All of the people there are infected. You see, the explosion from the chemicals released into the whole of Mysterium. The virus is technically airborne, but since Mysterium has been under confinement, the virus can only be spread through biting. All of the people in Mysterium are in stage 4, the bubble trapping the gas inside Mysterium is keeping them from rotting. This just makes them more hostile and hungry. Alden and Elwin are assigned to observe and study them, though, they find it hard, considering they cannot come inside without becoming infected or eaten.
Stage one:
—Bloody nose
—Weaker immune system
—Nausea
—Exposed wound not easily fixed with any elixirs or potions
—Shock
—Panic
—Sudden pang of hunger
—Abilities getting weaker
Patient will experience the symptoms the moment they're bitten by an infected one. If they aren't eaten, of course. An infected one usually takes a single bite out of an elf, tearing of their flesh (stage 3-4), but, if you catch them in the early stages, it'll only be a bite mark. They will start getting hungry, despite if they already ate. Normal elvin food should keep them at bay. For now at least
(Duration 1 week)
Stage 2:
—Getting sicker more
—Vomits often
—Snaps a bit easily
—Hunger really starts seeping in.
—Though hungry, they WILL still try to control themselves
—Starts to get a bit more aggressive, but not much
—Paler skin
—Less vibrant eyes
—Panic attacks
—Less energetic
—Wound starts to itch and become more bruised and bloody
—Ability almost useless
In stage 2, noticeable differences can be made. The infected elf will get more and more sickly ad the days go by. You can still approach the elf at this stage, but they'll most likely already be a little violent at this stage. Normal food still tastes the same, but they can't get full.
(Duration: 1 week)
Stage 3:
—More hostile
—More distant towards friends and family
—Can and will bitr your face off
—Almost gray iris, Bloodshot sclera
—Body part where the infected took a bite will start to contort
—Hungry constantly. Starting to crave meat
—Vision starts to blur
—Cannot think straight most of the time
—Ability not workingp
At this stage, their hunger is starting to become stronger. Their starting to become desperate for food. Their sanity is lowering, but they still have enough to distance themsleves from their loved ones. It is recommended to isolate the elf if they are in this stage, as if they're an elf who gets mad easily, they WILL not hesitate to jump at you.
STAGE 4:
—Now very hostile
—Blindness
—Starving
—Will eat itself if not fed
—Wound opens up, revealing bare bone
—Acidic saliva (can infect)
—No sanity, Mind shattered
—Ability gone
—Cannibalism
—Increased stamina and agility
In stage 4, their ability/abilities are completely gone and they will attack literally anyone they see and come in contact in. Their wound starts to open, revealing their bone. These are no longer your loved ones. They're gone. This isn't them anymore. RUN.
A note to telepaths and empaths!!
During stage one, their mind and emotions are a bit haywires. If you probe their mind, it'll be panicked and they'll be craving something to eat a lot. If you sense their emotions, it'll be anxious and shock.
During stage two, their mind starts to get foggy and blurry. Their emotions start to become stronger. If you read their mind, you'll see their cravings start to show. If you sense their emotions, you'll feel the anxiousness and the aggressiveness.
During stage three... You are no longer able to probe their mind. Empaths will become weak within 10 feet of an infected one. They'll become overwhelmed with how much aggression can be sensed. Telepaths are no longer able to read and probe their minds. They're too aggresive. You will die if you approach. If you ARE able to push through the barriers, you'll be overwhelmed. There is nothing to be saved. Get out of their minds
During stage four... Don't. Just don't.

SPOILERS FOR S1 AND S2 OF CRIMINAL CASE
July 30, 2030
T.I.M.E HQ
Cafeteria
"Deraila and Amy seem awfully down today" Marina noted seeing the two with their heads down, drinking their coffee together in silence. Orlando walks in and sees the situation. “Oh my…” He notices the shirt that Deraila is wearing. It was a Hawaiian button-up but not one of her usual ones. “That shirt carries quite the history to it. A heavy history about a broken man. A broken family.” Raising an eyebrow, Marina asks “How so?” He gives a bit of a shocked look. “In the 4 years you've known Amy and the possibly more that you’ve known Deraila, they haven't told you about their old partner they used to share?”
Amy speaks up clearly irritated “Orlando, if you want to talk about The Knight Family don't do it around me and Deraila. 15 years might have passed since the entire family’s death but it weighs just about heavy as it did back then”. Deralia speaks up clearly depressed “It's fine Amy. Orlando can talk about them. It's not the most traumatizing thing I’ve witnessed in my life…”
Orlando with a bit of a heavy sadness in his voice “it is not. Ive looked at their history over the at this point in time, almost 20 years of police work, but it is…” he swallows thickly “certaintly up there. Along with witnessing multiple attempts of suicide, one of which was successful…” He looks like he is wavering. “Her partner at the time during their first years, h-had…” it seems like he’s struggling to get the appropriate words out. He keeps clearing his throat. Deraila interrupts him, speaking in a monotone voice. “Me and Jones had witnessed the suicide of our Chief at the time…”
She stands up from their bench and grabs them all some coffee. “Let me tell you a story… When I first joined the Pacific Bay team, I had just got off from Grimsbourgh, my home town and Amy was just a junior officer when we met. We both met who we knew as our senior and the original owner of this shirt, Frank Knight.” Amy nods, a solemn look on her face. Deraila took a staggered breath. “He wasn’t a good man… but dammit he wasn't a bad one either. He was broken… broken in many ways and regretted so many things…” They take a sip of his coffee. The room is filled with silence. Amy broke the silence after a few minutes.“He… despite his actions in the end almost treated me like his own kid…” Deraila had a increased frustration in their voice as they spoke “He just wanted his damned family back. And gods whe he started emptying out his heart about his past-” Amy completed their sentence “Some of his behaviors and actions made so much more sense” "the one thing I won't ever let him down on if he was alive was the murder of Danny Moto… he was just a kid when frank killed him. Sure yeah, Frank's guilt about the incident weighed heavy on his shoulders, and if there ever such thing as a afterlife, it probably still does weight heavy on him, despite what Erikah Mabayo said."
A heavy silence came into the room. Deraila's grip on her mug white-knuckled as her frustration as memories started flooding into their head. "To make matters worse for him around this time, his daughter was in a coma and he and his wife Karen Knight had just reunited. But that was short lived because of those fucking bastards Albert Tesla and Alden fucking Greene!!!" The volume of Deraila's voice had risen exponentially. The other members on the team looked on in shock as they see how angry Deraila seems. Amy placed a hand on their shoulder. "They dangled the promise of them being a whole family again. Nothing pisses me off then an empty promise. especially one that puts loved ones in a choke hold when it was just a scheme for something else!" Marina and Orlando look on in absolute shock. They haven't ever seen Deraila this angry. "TESLA HAD THE FUCKING GALL AFTER SENDING SOMEONE TO KILL FRANK TO TRY AND BAIT US AND KEEP THE UTOPIA OPEN BY USING THE KNIGHT FAMILY!" Deraila sends one of her fists flying through a wall. after that, she breaks down into tears. Amy looked like she was about to go into tears as well, remembering the happy faces of the complete Knight Family in the utopia. It was a first for Marina and Orlando to see Amy like this.
Sobbing between Amy and Deraila were the only things heard for just a few moments as those hours repeated in their heads. The desperation for answers from the suspects and their coworkers. The search for clues and the skull rattling laughter from Tesla mocking them. The adrenaline spike from the tension. Then came the bitter-sweet ending… Those smiles… the smiles of Laura and Daisy that they have only seen once but damn will they never forget them. The smiles of Frank and Karen, a broken couple that has been broken apart due to their grief but reunited for their bedridden daughter. In death, this family was reunited…
But Deraila and Amy can't help but weep at their deaths. After 15 years… they still couldn't help but cry for a family they barely knew. Yet somehow they loved the family all the same.
"I-I think I'm gonna head home after repairing this," Deraila said as she pulled her fist out of the wall, her hand a little bloody. Amy nods and says the same thing. Orlando, Marina, and Jack stand there in silence as their teammates walk off, wondering what they could possibly do to help…

Who is your favorite CC character?
Oh, this is easy. Karen Knight and Tony Marconi, ofc. But, it isnt just because theyre cool ass characters who serve as good antagonists, but its because of their characterization and how a lot of their actions aren't out of a place of malice, but out of a place to protect their families. (spoilers for the first game, pacific bay and conspiracy under the cut!)
People love demonizing both of their actions, which pisses me off cus its always the same people who act as if characters like jones and frank are perfect people. like, i adore frank and actually have grown to like jones, but you cant sit there and act as if theyre perfect people and then demonize characters who did very similar things. For example, Karen. She did some obviously shitty things, dont get me wrong, but then you learn its because she wanted to get her dead daughters back. She organized a whole heist and held Andrea hostage to get Frank back because she wanted to power the supercomputer and get her family back with Frank. In grief, she decided that she'd rather be a criminal and have her family back then simply move on, as her daughters had been taken from her at such early ages. But, then, when its revealed Tesla n Alden were using her n wanted to destroy the world, she ended up ultimately sacrificing her LIFE to make sure pacific bay doesnt die because of her own personal mourning. THAT is a beautiful, complex character. and yet shes constantly shat on like shes the 'mail villain' of pacific bay when, really, shes far from it. Plus, the characters in the game - other then frank, of course - act like shes pure evil and that shes a demon at heart. which sucks. And then, Jones, when Zoe goes to prison (which i honestly think sucks n think she deserved way better), Jones wants to break her out of it to get her girlfriend back. Understandable. But to do this, he threatens Tony Marconi at gunpoint, and the only time he gives up is when Tony TACKLES HIM in self defence to get the gun away from him. Jones then screams revenge, and BREAKS INTO TONY'S HOUSE, after all is said and done. and yet, when this was discovered, he wasnt deemed as evil, instead he got a slap on the wrist by diane and he isnt shat on by the fandom as much as well. yea no so i get really annoyed at that. when people demonize characters like karen and then act like other characters are saints even though they did similar things. also i'm so sorry this ended up a huge rant UGEFWU

elsewhere on the internet: the internet
How Facebook Screwed Us All (Mother Jones, 2019)
First, starting in the 2000s, came the giant migration of advertising dollars from publishers to Facebook and Google. Today, the two control an estimated 58 percent of the US digital ad market, with Amazon, Microsoft, and the like dividing up the rest and publishers representing barely a rounding error. In large part as a result, there are now roughly 24,000 journalists working in America’s daily print newsrooms, down from some 56,000 in the early 2000s. And more and more of them work for hedge-fund owners who milk what remains of newspapers’ profits—mostly through layoffs—while further degrading coverage. Here in the Bay Area, all the daily papers except the San Francisco Chronicle are owned by one of these hedge funds, Alden Global Capital. There were once more than 1,000 journalists working for these papers, including 440 at the San Jose-based Mercury News, then one of the nation’s strongest regional outlets. Raising capital — especially at the scale that Reddit has — always leads to the bill coming due. Every time that Reddit has had to raise money, it has had to express how it will grow its userbase, its headcount, and its revenue. Every time that Reddit has taken on hundreds of millions of dollars of equity funding, it has promised these investors that Reddit will, as a result of the cash injection, become bigger and more fiscally valuable, and each raise has been paired with more promises about how much more Reddit can be worth. And now Reddit has put itself in a corner, promising shadowy organizations like Tencent that their money was well-spent.
Elon Musk broke Twitter, and he's breaking research communities, too. (Paul Musgrave, 2023)
The awful thing, of course, is that in lighting his own money on fire Elon has also decided to knock away the good part of Twitter. Twitter has, over the past decade, come to provide invisible but load-bearing supports for researchers and academics. It’s been a great way for those of us at out-of-the-way institutions to bring visibility to our arguments and research profile (and if you think Amherst isn’t out-of-the-way, just ask someone who’s Boston or New York-based to come out—a drive that we would do without thinking is a major imposition for those in the metropole). We know that scholarly conferences spur connections and research productivity; Twitter has been the conference bar or the post-panel chatter available 24/7 and across (most) borders. It’s accelerated research dissemination and it’s brought me and others into contact with people we otherwise never would have met. And it also connected us to editors and publishers in ways that did more to enrich and diversify the discourse than any number of assistant vice provosts for JEDI initiatives.
