I'm just hoping he is some flavor of gay and the whole "religious trauma interlude" isn't just to persuade the fanbase to like the themes of the album because 90% of the fanbase are in some way lgbtqia+

idk i feel like him being some flavor of gay would explain why he feels so victimized by christianity as an institution on a personal level bc to be honest, he's kind of a traditionalist in his relationships outside his masochistic streak (he gets promise rings in his relationships when they get serious enough for his liking. who fucking does that unless you're raised religious).

he discusses his views on religion a little in his book, and says it quite bluntly before going onto tangents about feeling weird about people seeing christianity as factual and ghost stories for some reason: "I think religion is a distraction from God.” it's a pretty agnostic pov to have bc it recognizes the structural problem of organized religion, but still allows for personal belief in it.

awsten discusses mostly in the passage after about losing faith in religious institutions because of the gradual realization of the self serving nature of them.

it's kinda ironic really how intellectual property does a bad job at expressing this statement in relation to religious trauma and sexuality even though it has like an hour to do it. it will flip flop between being hamfisted about religious references and sex to being very vague about any emotions about in between. awsten claims that this album explores hypersexuality but the lyrics presented are. extremely tame and consumable like any other pop song you could pick out.

as i said before, awsten is fairly traditional in his relationships with each blonde woman with different lip filler he keeps dating and religious yet supportive parents. even in a religious setting, he would kind of have the upper hand since he's a guy.

but the parts where he deviates are specifically associated with like queerness and stuff; the way he dresses, the way he is emasculated by others, idk maybe the fact he experiences homophobia to this day despite only claiming to be straight. all of that hate roots from the institutions of religion and not the teachings themselves, which. yeah probably has to be a weight to carry on you - iz

i lied, put your clothes back on. i want to talk about how social media has completely ruined the music scene to the point that bands are not recognized for their actual musical talent anymore but are instead made popular by how well they can work the algorithm to make the most viral video possible. no i dont want to guess who your drummer is, go make actual fucking music. and on that note, while people making singles for the sole purpose of getting incredibly popular and neglecting the rest of the album has been a thing for a while, it feels as though people are now not even bothering to make the entire single good; they only give a fuck about that little ten second clip that’ll get all popular on tiktok or whatever the fuck
