Two Jewish Stanford University mental health counselors are filing a complaint with the Department of Education after the school’s diversity programming portrayed Jews as contributing to systemic racism.

Attorneys from the Louis D. Brandeis Center — which exists to protect the rights of the Jewish people — are representing Ronald Albucher and Sheila Levin.

According to the complaint, the school’s “Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion” committee hosts “weekly seminars and racially segregated affinity groups.” A program offered by the Counseling & Psychological Services office “has maligned and marginalized Jews, by castigating them as powerful and privileged perpetrators who contribute to systemic racism.”

The statement of facts explains that in January 2020, staff were told to read "White Fragility," by Robin DiAngelo. During discussion time, the office created a “structured space for white staff” to “process reaction to 'White Fragility'.” As there was no group specifically for Jews, the two counselors were “expected to join the white affinity group” and “pressured to accept the anti-Semitic stereotypes promoted by the DEI program, namely, that Jews are rich, white and powerful.”

At one particular May 2020 virtual meeting, staff including Albucher and Levin discussed a racist Zoom bombing that had occurred days earlier. Although “DEI committee members addressed the racist and anti-Black content,” they did not mention “anti-Semitism or the anti-Semitic images of swastikas that were displayed during the zoombombing [sic] attack.” When Albucher attempted to express concern about the committee’s choice to ignore anti-Semitism, he was reportedly accused of “trying to derail the agenda’s focus on anti-Black racism.”

The main focus was to build the trust & respect of one man, Alf Jaques, and portray his art, his craft, his way of life, as nostalgic and true to form as possible. This is a gift to history and will live on for many sticks to come. Frame Line Productions & Stylin’ Strings Productions went behind the scenes on the Onondago Reservation to document a living legend while building the first steps toward a life long friendship.

We had a third day in the #swabianalb Alb UNESCO #geopark today. Our first stop #steinheimamalbuch #meteorcrater (pics 5-10). At the crater we first climbed to its rim for a view which was obscured by fog. We then visited the museum which was kindly opened specially for us. In the museum we learnt how 15 million years ago 2 meteors hit Germany. The smaller meteor created the Steinheim am Albuch crater, while the larger meteor created the Nördlinger Ries crater. When the Steinheim meteor hit the ground creating the crater, the meteor evaporated and compressed the bedrock which rebounded forming a dome in the centre of the crater. The meteors killed all life in a 300km radius, but life soon recovered and a lake formed in the Steinheim crater with the rebounded dome being an island (pic 8). This lake existed for 1 million years and many fossils have been preserved in it, including ancestral elephants, hedgehogs, hares, martens, bear-dogs, sabre tooth cats, horses, fish and snails. In many ways snails have been the most interesting fossils, because they have been shown evolving into new species in an evolutionary arms race with fish (pic 9). After the museum we visited the fossil quarry where we were lucky enough to bump into a geologist from Stuttgart University who showed us around (pic 10). Our next stop was the town of Aalen that lends its name to the Aalenian age of the #jurassic. Here we visited both the excellent museum seeing some beautiful #ammonites (pics 1-2), and the #TieferStollen #ironmine where we rode a train 400m into the mountain. The iron ore is mined from Jurassic near shore sediments that contain Fe oolites that were concentrated in dunes, these sediments also contain abundant fossils.
