This may be my favorite clue reaction in the game lol (”Pazu-who?” is up there, along with Salim’s response to Jason looking at Hodgson’s locket). Full interaction that includes a little more dialogue linked in the x’s above. Just fun 💀

I’ll hide some extra nerding about Jason and Hamlet under the cut (tw just in case for death/mortality). tl;dr Jason knows Hamlet but not Buffy and I love him lol

First of all, this man doesn’t get Nick’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer/pop culture reference (the show wasn’t new in 2003 - funnily enough, it ended its run just 10 days before the events of HoA), but remembers “Alas, poor Yorick!” (“Hey, Yorick”). 😂 I dunno! This reference was just very unexpected to me coming from Jason but in a delightful way. Maybe he remembers it from school or is a lowkey fan of the Bard or maybe Mirene is reading too much into things again it’s just a word omg

I’m also tickled that this moment is so surprisingly lighthearted for the situation he and Nick have found themselves in, though to be fair, Jason hasn’t seen the creatures yet and doesn’t know Joey is dead or what happened to everyone else. But anyway, love it. 

The timing being early in the game is nice, with death increasingly around the corner. The Yorick speech occurs when Hamlet, realizing he’s viewing the skull of his former court jester, stops to consider death, and that everyone great or small will become dust someday or a skull like Yorick. Face-to-face with his own mortality! And just before all the mass death starts to go down in the rest of the Act. In HoA, there’s still a good chunk of time before the first possible death, and it’s not even Jason (nor does Jason have the same fate as the skull with the “vampire”/teeth thing as far as we know), but I digress. Just nice and foreboding, even for a soldier like Jason who’s seen a lot of death and probably had some close calls

Anyway, a revenge story about a 30-ish-year-old who is pretty discontented with life in his home country...! 😁

Also, the Curator probably loves Hamlet - “So. Much. Death.” Is that why he keeps his own Yorick on his desk?  💀
