Imagine past Leo keeps coming back to take a look at his future, and it's starting to piss Leo off like ??? Man he just wants to cuddle with his wife after work, and now there's this little shit coming in to steal his cuddles AND he's treating his wife semi poorly??? (Future Leo can't fathom that it's his own damn self that's the problem LMFAO)

Future Leo starts to leave notes and passive aggressive comments on his body so past Leo can find it. Past Leo doesn't know what's going on but every time he goes to the future he keeps finding angrier and angrier notes (first it's "treat her well, you're a guest here" and "you love her more than life itself even if you don't know it yet" but after a few rounds he gets impatient and starts going nuclear "listen you little shit you make my wife uncomfortable again I'll remember this shit and shave your head in the past" "get the fuck out and leave me alone I'm gonna make you binge eat and make you fat")

Imagine future Leo being so pissed off about the "stolen" time that he insists that he gets EXTRA loving from his wife for it (it's really not that bad, he's just being dramatic again) and whoops it looks like all those extra rounds have gotten his darling wife pregnant 🥴🥴🥴

Leo has gotten used to popping to the future for a little while. Leo is neither used to the interruptions to his life and very upset about it

Leo recognizes he can be hard to get along with most of the time, he is snarky, snoops around for secrets and extorts people with them, can be cruel, among many other things. But he never expected to say that he got himself fed up with his existence.

He seems to be getting on his last nerve, Leo notes at the greenish bruises on his midriff while changing clothes after bathing. He once again visited the birdpond even if his trip was a rather short one as Sho pulled him away when he (or rather whatever consciousness from his future self he had in his body) started hitting and scratching himself on the stomach.

Sitting down on his bed, he starts spending cream on the small wounds, he would hate to have any sort of scar.

“And you want to go back tomorrow after that?” Sho asks besides him, watching the reddish and purple splotches and thin red lines across his abdomen.

“Well, yeah, I want to see what number will be drawn on the influencer gala” he says, as nonchalant as ever, as if whatever damage he did to himself was nothing more than a light annoyance.

“You are crazy, dude”

“Hush, I'm learning a TikTok dance”

And as he said, that night as soon as Alan turned off his light they both sneaked off to the hedge maze centered around the birdpond.

“So, you remember what we are doing?”

“10 minutes in and I take you off. If you start hitting yourself I'm just allowed to hold you but not lift you”

“Good! If I see one more bruise and it will be all your fault, m'kay?”

“Hey, no, wait-!” But before he is able to complain he already dipped his head underwater.

Already used to the ache inside his lungs and the feeling of drowning, it doesn't take him much longer to settle on the current situation.

There is a colorful movie playing on the 65 inches mounted tv and he feels a comfortable weight on his lap. When he looks down he sees your head on his chest and legs thrown over his own, most of the weight must be from the sleeping toddler on your legs. A string of spit threatening to spill on his leg makes Leo recoil away violently, almost making you fall off the sofa and your daughter too.

Now awake and in a bad mood Emmy pouts and kicks her little legs “Daddy!” she waddles towards him so he would pick her up and lull her to sleep as always.

With the same coldness as you remember his first year version having, he spits venom at the, honestly quite messy, child “Don't even touch me, you have spit and sugar all over yourself, you are going to mess my clothes” and he barricades himself inside the bathroom, leaving you to calm down an upset toddler.

Hidden away inside the bathroom, he sits down on the bathtub rim and swipes around his phone, looking at his TikTok account and looking for videos that are around 10 years old. For once he curses being so active in social media as when he reaches his current year Sho was pulling him up to the past.

“So? Anything good?”

“Hardly anything and her kid almost slobbers all over me”

“I think that is also your child, dude”

‘stupid child’ Adult Leo growls mentally. Each and every time his past himself would rudely interrupt in his few soft domestic hours he has with his family and treat them like shit his head would be splitting down the middle with an unbearable headache, no matter what he took or if he drank water he would have to sit down for hours until it passed. Luckily his wife and daughter would comfort him while they watched tv with very low volume.

Wobbling out of the bathroom and aiming for the modular sofa he whines for any scrap of affection he believes he is entitled to “LI, Emmy, let's watch a movie, daddy doesn't feel good”

Plopping down on ‘his’ side of the sofa he just noticed Emmy was too busy getting calmed down to watch a movie with her dad.

“What happened, Emmy? Want to tell me while we watch Cinderella?” and even after attempting to bribe her with her favorite movie she just looks the other way with a pout before stomping towards her room, slamming the door.

Noticing your husband was back you smile, a part in relief of not having to take care of your toddler alone and another part of mocking delight “Emilia is very angry at you because your past self told her you weren't going to carry her because she was dirty and was going to mess your clothes”

Mortified, Leo grasps his forehead, he doesn't remember himself as one to be that mean to kids. When he feels you sit next to him and hug his shoulder he starts acting for affection and attention.

“That stupid brat is going to make my baby hate me”

“honey, that brat is you”

The attempt at reasoning with him is met with more whining. After years of marriage he learned that there wasn't anything he couldn't get from you with enough whining “my head hurts” he digs himself a space on your clavicle “I just want to sit down and enjoy myself with my family but now I can't even do that”

Combing some fly away hairs and planting a kiss on his helix honeyed words lure him closer “Emmy might not want to be close to you now but why don't we have some personal time together”

And with a devilish smile his hands dip down your back and butt while his mouth attached itself to whatever patch of skin he can get close to.

Family vlogs are something Leo found himself doing weekly, complying with his fans' demands. There is rarely anything interesting, sometimes doctor's visits, minor sickness, projects he had to say nothing about yet still hype, that sort of day to day things.

After going over a possible trip to Spain for a gaming convention he was invited to, Leo looks over the most frequent questions of the last vlog. He is so thankful that he coded a bot to group comments with the same or similar key words.

“So, for the last question… YN they are asking if you were hungry when we filmed the last video, they say you were scrolling UberEATS for a while”

You shrug while playing with your phone, not paying him much mind “well, when I was pregnant with Emmy I was pretty hungry, it is normal that I would be now too”

It is hardly one second before his usual fake smile dropped, eyes wide and mouth slightly agape. In an attempt to turn off the video his hands fiddle with the button but it takes a few extra seconds than he expected. It is going to look awkward when he uploads it but why act as if he has ever cared about it and more so especially now?

The last few seconds it's possible to hear an ‘are you serious?’

The last day before he took a break from looking into the future,as soon as he dips his head down to the water the usual annoyance in his lungs is overpowered by a different kind of ache caused by breathlessness like in Gym class.

“Leo, stop teasing~” a breathy moan begs from beneath him. Looking down he finds his hand snug against the column of your neck, lips connected to your skin just below your collarbone.

You were splayed under him, legs hugging his hips and one arm drawing figures on his biceps. Bodies close enough to notice your swollen stomach against his abdomen. Thankfully enough you had your eyes closed shut and couldn't notice the switch.

He on a technical level guessed this future version of himself and you fucked (as awkward as that image is for him) there was Emilia, or Emmy, that looked very much like him and you; when he snooped around he found condoms and there were multiple pregnancy tests in the en suite bathroom. But he had never barged in during the act.

Such a great fucking time he gets in, balls deep inside the nerd and an orgasm threatening to wreck him. Or so he would think if a wave of dopamine didn't swallow him whole in the same breath.

Quickly he leaves the water, if Sho had to say he almost looked horrified, eyes wide, breathing quickly, face red and… oh, he was just suddenly horny. Any teasing he might have wanted to do is cut short with Leo's nasty side eye but no explanations.

On the other side of the timeline there is a married couple with a sulking husband.

“Are you feeling alright?” opening your eyes you manage to see a very clearly upset Leo resting his forehead against your sternum and a hand on your breast.

“I can't even have sex with my wife without that brat ruining it”

“What? He was here just now?!”

“Once again, I didn't get to enjoy it”

“Wait a second! I'm still sensitive! ~~!”

Jin:

You and Jin have been dating for a few months now. You know that Jin is easy to anger, but he tries his absolute best to not take it out on you. You both have had your fair share of petty fights and misunderstandings. Yet you both would make it up to one another. On this particular day. You both had a bad day. Jin had to handle a bunch of meetings and his own father. You were busy running around aiding all of the Ghouls that requested you. Delivering paperworks for them, cleaning for Romeo, Leo needing to use your ability, helping out with the animals, and so on and so on. Both of you didn’t get a break. We leads to both of you now arguing. What for? Both of you don’t know why. Jin grew more and more frustrated and annoyed and wanted the argument to stop. He raised his hand to pause you for talking. When you saw his hand quickly rising up. You flinched and shut your eyes tightly as you braced yourself for an impact with pain…

But it never came, the room was now silent. The air was heavy and thick. Jin froze, his eyes wide with shock. “Why did they flinch? Are they scared of me?” He thought to himself, he put his hand down and turned around. His back now faced you. “Just leave..” He needed a moment to think. You quickly left his room in tears. Jin sat down on the couch. Recalling what happened, he was now in his room with a huge weight in his chest. His heart felt heavy. He felt angry too, not in the way you think he’s is. But more in a way that it’s to do with him. He caused you to flinch. He never wanted to make you feel unsafe with him. That reaction made him feel more like a monster than ever before. You’re his lover, his partner, his future, literally the only reason he feels alive. He scared you.. or so he thinks he scared you.

You on the other hand, thought that you have pushed him too far. So far that you thought he was angry at you. Which isn’t true, all he wanted was the arguing to stop. But when he picked up his hand. You couldn’t help but reacted that way. It was how your ex has treated you. When you dated your ex, the ex was mean, manipulative, selfish, a liar and a narcissist overall. The ex would lay their hands on you, scream at you, and purposely make you cry out of enjoyment. Your ex has broken your confidence, tore down your self esteem, and made you feel unworthy of love. When you came to Darkwick and met Jin. All of that changed, Jin was rough at the start. Thought the more you spent time with him. You saw more that met the eyes. He was kind, loyal, playful, honest, and brave. He actually helped you built up yourself up little by little. How? By getting you things you need. You need more clothes? Done, need money to buy personal items, done. Need a boat to help you with the other dorm on their mission? Also done. Need a break from all of the stress and missions? Let’s go to the beach.

You were hesitant about asking for things but he never cared. He would tell you if need something. Just say so. After the argument took place, both of you stayed to yourself for a bit. Tohma actually encouraged both of you to talk. So you walked over to his room. Nervous about everything, Jin waited in his room for you. Once you entered, you both had a heart to heart conversation. Jin now fully understands why you reacted that way and you now understand that he wasn’t mad at you. It was more towards himself for scaring you. He’s now more mindful of your triggers and you are more mindful about him never hurting your the way your ex did.

Luca:

Both you and Luca were working out and training together. You were determined to get stronger and not hold anyone back. So as both of you were training. He was coaching you on how to do a few exercises. He started out easy on you since you were used to working out to an extreme level. As time went on and on. You slowly began to built your body. Now he was teaching you hand to hand combat. You started out with the punching bag and now you are facing him. He still planned on going easy on you. When he starts giving you pointers and tells you to hit his hands with the punching mitts. He would often throw in little advice down the line too. “Make sure to never take your eyes off of them.””When they are open, strike hard as you can.” “Best thing is the elements of surprise.” He would even tell you that your opponent would also use elements of surprise. “Don’t let your guard down for a sec.” Now training was over, and both of you are worn out. He stood next to you for a few moments to catch his breathe. What he said had stuck to you pretty hard. Luca decided to stretch his body. His arms up in the air. When you have caught a glimpse of his movement. You thought he was going to strike you unexpectedly, to catch you off guard. But instead of defending yourself like he taught you. You flinched and scrunched down with your hands over your head. He stunned by what just had happened.

“MC?…why did you flinch? What’s wrong?” His voice was full with worry and confusion. Your hands trembled has the flashbacks fills your mind. The blood pounded in your ears, Your heart thudded in your chest, feet tingled, and vision disfigured, as if you were looking through a fish-eye lens. Luca realized that you were having a panic attack. So he bent down in front of you. Calmly he continued to call your name. Never did he raise his voice to catch your attention. He simply remained patience. He didn’t touch you, not until you gave him consent. He doesn’t know what was going through your mind. But once you pulled out of it. You began to cry as you reached out to him.

He’s holding you in his arms as you cry. You have told him about your family and how they would lay their hands on you. Physical hurting you as “punishment.” They would often berate you, telling you. That you weren’t good enough and nothing but a disappointment. Luca was angry about it. He swore to you, that he will always protect you. After having the long talk. Both of you decided to head to the store to buy a few snacks and head off to watch a movie in his dorm. From that ever day. He made sure to pay close attention to your wellbeing. Often telling how much he loves and adores you.

Alan:

You both head off to do a case that was assigned. It was just you and him. As you were investigating the scene. It got pretty dark out. As both of you finished. You hear a strange noise. You turned around to face where the noises were coming from. A strange shadow like figured with red eyes. Stares back at you, then it transforms to your worse nightmare. The anomaly had transform itself into your abusive ex. The illusion becomes too realistic for you. Your ex smirks at you as they walked closer and closer to you. You began to cry and beg them to leave you alone. Each inches they took towards you, you would back up. Now you were backed up against the wall. You screamed, all of the sudden a loud sound ripped through the room. It was Alan, he had punched the anomaly through it’s mask. The mask shattered, the red eyes you saw earlier revealed once more. The illusion of your ex was gone.

Alan completed stood between you and the creature. His back faced towards you. “You will not touch them.” Alan tells the anomaly, his voice held deep anger. It was rough and aggressive sounding. Usually that would scary you, but with Alan. It was different, for the first time. You felt, Safe.

Shortly after he dealt with the creature. He slowly walked over to you and bend down to your level. You were still in shock. He held a hand out to you. “Are you okay?” You started at him, he was covered in blood. Luckily, it wasn’t his blood. You looked at his hand and then back at his face. He waited for you to accept his hand. Alan knew how terrified you were, so he waited on you. You took his hand and hugged him when he pulled you off the ground. He was stiff as a board because he wasn’t used to physical contact. Yet, he knew you needed this. So he placed a hand on your head as you cried. When you are ready, he knows that you know. He’s here for you no matter what. ———————————————————

Haru:

You volunteered to help out Haru with the animals. It was a nice sunny hot day. Haru wanted to make it a water theme tour for visitors. You can stay cool and have fun with the animals. Your job was to attend the small easy animals. “Hey MC, mind helping me grab a few things from the kitchen and the shack?” You agreed and followed him to the kitchen. Both of you were preparing the meals for the animals. Since it was their lunch time. Later you head over to the shack and he had told you to grab the hose. He connect the water hose to the pump. “Once I have it all untangled and stretched out to the pool. I’ll yell for you to turn it on!”

“Gotcha! Just say ‘okay,’ soon as you want me to turn it on.” You told him. He gave you a thumbs up and untangled the hose. You waited for him to give you the okay. A few moments has passed and you hear the word. You turned it on but didn’t know if it was working or not. After turning and turning, you hear. “GAWK TOO MUCH, TOO MUCH WATER!”

As you panicked to turn it off. The knob broke off, causing you to panic more. He walked over to you drenched in water. Placed the knob back on like it was nothing and sighed in exhaustion. As he turns to face you now. You were on the verge of tears. Trembling over the fact that he could be angry at you. Haru reacted his left hand to pat your head. He saw that you flinched. It hurts him to see you all shaken up over a smile common mistake.

“Hey, it’s okay. It happens a lot actually.” He comforts you.

“I’m so sorry, I swear I didn’t mean to make a mess and I-I broke the knob off.. *sniffs*” you had apologized to him for your clumsy mistake.

“Aw it fine! I’m all cooled off and ready for the water park! Besides the knob is back on. Like I said, it happened before. Why are you apologizing?”

“….Becomes I’m nothing but a klutz..I’m not good at anything. Always a screw up..” Tears streams down your face as you tried to wipe them off. He pats your head again and starts to compliment you.

“You’re not a klutz or a screw up. In fact, I’ve made tons of silly and funny mistakes! So bad that even Ren laughed at me!” This got you to laugh and smiled. Haru may not fully understand what you have went through, but he lets you know. That if you ever need someone to talk too. He will always be there for you.

Rui:

Rui offered you a part time job at his bar. You took that offer so you can save up to buy the things you have been waiting for. Rather that’s movies, video games, clothings, a new phone case and etc. You are in desperate need to spoil yourself for your hard work. So for the time being. You were at his bar, helping him clean before he opens. He had you to wipe down the tables as he cleans the cups. Once he opens the guests starts packing in. When he was busy with one customer he had asked you to grab a cup for him. When you walked over to the glass stand. You have accidentally knocked over one with your elbow . When you moved to pick it up. You knocked over another one. It fell completely off the stand and onto the floor. The glass cup, shattered all over the floor.

“I’m so sorry! I’ll clean that up!” You told him as you bent down to pick up the broken piece. Unlucky for you, Romeo saw what had happened. He criticized you for being clumsy and called you a CBB. Which you guessed it stand for “Clumsy basic bitch.”

This struck an unpleasantly nerve. “Ouch..” looking at your hand, there was a small glass that prickled your finger. Rui saw the blood and rushed over to you. He had ask Lyca to take you to the infirmary to patched you up.

After you were all patched Rui text you to take the night off. You figured he was mad about the messes you made. That night, you cried yourself to sleep. Ashamed of what you have done and the embarrassment you’ve caused.

In the morning, Rui came over to check up on you. You were about to head out to class. When you opened the door, there he was. You were going to apologize to him later. But since he was here, might as well say sorry.

You had opened your mouth a a bunch of apologies were heard. This caught Rui off guard. “Woah woah, slow down.” He nervously said. “Why are you apologizing? I’m not mad.”

“But you should be! I embarrassed you and broke your glass cup. Romeo was right..I’m nothing back a “Clumsy basic bitch!” You beat yourself up for your mistakes. Rui puts both hands in the air as surround. You thought he was going to hit you. So you have fully prepared yourself for the impact. But it never came.

“Huh? Why did you flinch MC?” You looked into his eyes and saw how wide and concerning he looked. “I was never going to hit you..I’m pacifist.”

“Besides, I can never hurt a cute person!” He smiled brightly at you.

“…You wouldn’t? But I brought shame to you..” Rui didn’t understand why you were so hard on yourself. He simply smiled awkwardly now and tells you that you didn’t bring shame or embarrassment, that you were not a clumsy basic bitch. From that day, he made sure to compliment you whenever.

The Chosen One's redemption: Why did it happen?

Since his reintroduction within the world of Animator vs. Animation within its second season, one of the most interesting characters that this series has to offer, at least in my opinion, is The Chosen One.

Introduced intially as an antagonistic force to the Animator/Alan. Despite having minimal appearances overall, The Chosen One has had a massive impact on the plot overall. Due to being the one to destroy Alan's computer and forcing him to get a new one, which inadvertedly lead to the creation of The Second Coming.

All things considered, you can thank The Chosen One for pretty much the entire series going forward, even if indirectly. With all that said though, there's one thing that's always been somewhat bothering me about his character, and it's something that I wanted to explore roday. With that thing being his redemption.

Now on the surface, there doesn't really seem like there's much to discuss in the way of Chosen's change of heart. He disliked what The Dark Lord was doing, do he decided to stop him, pretty simple right? Well... that's where things get complicated, and it all comes down to The Chosen One's vague moral code.

The Chosen One, the moment he was created, was a beast of mass destruction. He immediately started attacking Alan and causing havoc around his PC, and unlike victim that came beforehand, this wasn't instigated by Alan attempting to kill him. He was just given life and decided he wanted to destroy shit. And that's how he was for at least the first episode. He was incredibly destructive and uncontrollable. Why exactly? Well it's strongly implied that it comes with the name, judging by Alan's interaction with progammer021 on AIM.

It seems that in this world, naming your stick figure "The Chosen One" instantly turns them into lethal weapons. Because of this, you could almost say that The Chosen One was simply an amoral program who destroyed because it was part of his nature. As a matter of fact, analyzing his behavior in his debut episode he almost acts like that of a wild animal. Tearing up documents and destroying programs with no real rhyme or reason, and defending himself against anyone who would try to stop him.

In Animator vs. Animation 2 though, things become a lot more interesting. As this episode starts to give The Chosen One more dimension, he starts acting less like a feral creature, and more like a person who's been caged, enslaved if you will, and is yearning for release.

Following The Chosen One managing to release himself from Alan's grip. He continues his rampage from several years ago. Though this one noticeably feels more spiteful. While his first attack upon his awakening seems more like he was simply destroying things because of his nature, here it feels a lot more targetted at Alan, which makes sense considering he obviously hates the guy's guts for what he did to him. That isn't to say he doesn't still exhibit old traits though. He still does a lot of things in this episode that come off as somewhat childish in nature, such as eating Alan's required essay Pac-Man style.

However, the biggest thing I believe that this episode shows isn't the fact that The Chosen One is more humanlike than we might initially give him credit for, but rather the fact also shows that he has agency. Morals even, and there's no better show of that, than with his alliance with The Dark Lord.

The Chosen One's friendship with The Dark Lord is a weird one. Cause all things considered he had no reason to even want to ally with him. They had been enemies up until that point and it would've been more beneficial for him to just kill him off right then and there. But he didn't. Instead, he offered an alliance, for the two of them to team up and rise against their oppressive creator. This, to me, shows that even in the early days, The Chosen One was more than just a stick figure of mass destruction, he was a person, and that all leads back to the main topic of this post, his redemption.

The Chosen One's redemption has always been a weird one to me. The main reason being that we aren't actually given an explanation for why he changed. Yes, we know that he didn't approve of Dark's actions, and that's a big reason for why he redeemed himself. But what exactly about his actions did he not approve of? It can't of been the sheer fact that he was causing destruction or endangerig lives because well... The Chosen One had already been doing that, years before his redemption

As a matter of fact, The Chosen One was the whole reason The Dark Lord became a villain in the first place. So if not for the sheer fact of Dark putting innocents at risk being the reason he decided to change his ways, then what was it? Well I believe there are two likely explanations for what caused this change.

The first is the one that a good majority of the Animator vs. Animation fanbase believe to be the most likely of them, and that is that The Chosen One has standards against harming his own kind.

Now there's actually a lot to support this theory. The biggest one being when Chosen imagines what would happen if Dark released the ViraBots onto the internet.

Many have pointed out that in this vision, Chosen only imagined stick figures running away from Dark's entourage, and how that's what caused him to put his foot down. There's also the fact that the moment Chosen starts having second thoughts, is when they start attacking Newgrounds, a place populated by stick figures.

Hell there was even evidence of this before his redemption. All the way back in Animator vs. Animation 3, Chosen chose to spare Dark and become friends with him. This would make a whole lot of sense if we look at this through the lens of Chosen not liking the idea of hurting his own kind.

There is... one pause I have with his however. And that is with the fact that The Chosen One, doesn't seem to just object killing fellow stick figures. Going back to the Newgrounds flashback, the last shot we see before we fast forward to present day shows The Dark Lord holding the Tankman by the neck while Chosen pleads for him to stop. Tankman isn't a stick figure, so going by the logic that he only takes issue with him hurting other stick figures, why would he care about this? Well you could argue that maybe him seeing what Dark was doing to other stick figures gave him a wake up call and made him realize that them hurting other programs was wrong, but I believe there is another possible explanation for this.

Explanation two: The Chosen One was never meant to be a villain. Let me ask you a question, were you born believing that you had a specific purpose, a specific reason to exist, and you spent most of your life thinking that's what you wanted, only to realize overtime how unfulfilled it made you feel? Well I believe that The Chosen One might just be experencing this exact thing

The Chosen One, since his very first days, was a destructive monster. He destroys things, he wreaked havoc, and there was seemingly no way to control him. Though beyond that he was also an incredibly young stick figure, one that, as noted above, acted rather childish. However, by the time of Animator vs. Animation season 2, which going by the date displayed on Alan's computer, took place in 2018, The Chosen One would've been around eleven years old. That's more than a decade of doing the same thing, and it's clear that it took its toll on him.

In his official reintroduction to the series, The Chosen One is noticeably colder than he was when we last saw him. He completely ignored the praise he was receiving from the other sticks, and at no point do we see him getting up to any sort of childish antics. He feels a lot more mature here, like a stick figure who has grown a lot since his creation.

So considering his clear change in personality, would it be crazy to assume that perhaps his enjoyment in destructive habits did to?

The Chosen One is one of the oldest stick figures in this series, and in that time it seems like he spent most of his life doing the same thing, destroying.

So, assuming that the Newgrounds raid happened not too long before his confrontation with Dark. Perhaps The Chosen One was feeling a sense of emotional dissatisfaction. Looking at the inital shot, it does kind of come off that way, with how his hands are slowly extinguishing of their flames as he watches over the destruction. Perhaps in that moment, he realized he wasn't enjoying it anymore, as a matter of fact, he might've even felt guilty about it, if him pleading for Dark to release the Tankman is anything to go by. Really in a broader sense, I think The Chosen One, kind of had a moment of self-reflection. He finally let the years catch up to him and it made him realize how emotionally unfulfilled he was.

After all, he isn't just some amoral beast, he's a stick figure. A stick figure with its own agency. And we know for a fact that stick figures in this series possess almost humanlike intelligence, so is it bold to assume that, in the decade he's been doing the same thing, he didn't feel satisfied anymore? In my opinion, I think that's a possibility.

To take this a step forward, I might even go as far as to to argue that The Chosen One was never meant for destruction in the first place. Yes, he was born a monster, but that doesn't necessarily mean he meant to be one. As early as the third episode of the series, The Chosen One already showed to be a lot more human than we may have initally suspected, he has already shown to be capable of mercy and kindness, even when he was this supposedly ruthless villain.

Let's take a look at Chosen's name for a moment. "The Chosen One", what does it mean? Well according to wikipedia a Chosen One is "a narrative trope where one character, usually the protagonist, is framed as the inevitable hero or antihero of the story, as a result of destiny" now I dunno about you, but this sounds pretty similar to the character journey that The Chosen One underwent. He may have started out a villain, but through destiny (in this case The Dark Lord's full descent into villainy), he became the hero of the story. Maybe, this had been his true purpose from the start.

Hell, let's dive even deeper into this idea. Who is The Chosen One's archnemesis? The Dark Lord, and what does Dark Lord mean in fiction? well, looking at wikipedia again, a Dark Lord is "an antagonistic archetype, acting as the pinnacle of villainy and evil within a typically heroic narrative." which I dunno about you, but that sounds pretty fitting considering that The Dark Lord is by far the most evil antagonist this series has ever seen and one of the few who hasn't redeemed in some way. I should also mention that, even before The Dark Lord joined The Chosen One, he was fighting on the side of Alan, someone who, at this point in this series, was arguably the main villain. He created a stick figure just so he could torture and kill them and enslaved The Chosen One for four years. Sure Chosen kinda had that one coming, but even then Alan had no reason to be that cruel to him when he could've just killed him or kept him contained. But instead he decided to use him, like an object, that doesn't really sound like a hero to me. Not to mention that Alan was literally the one who gave The Dark Lord his name. All things considered, you could almost consider Chosen the hero in that scenario for trying to destroy his creator. Which kind of loops back to my original point, that The Chosen One wasn't meant to be a villain. Even in the beginning he was meant to be a hero, even if he didn't realize it. Which is why he ultimately left his past as a villain behind, because it was a life that was never made for him, a life that only provided a temporary sense of satisfcation. Meanwhile The Dark Lord, someone who's name alone means to be the worst of the worst, would become an irredeemable monster who The Chosen One, as the inevitable hero decided by destiny, would have to stop.

Oh, and one last thing that goes to support this theory, ya know The Second Coming? Well if you remember, he was meant to be The Chosen One's reincarnation, his return. So isn't it convenient that he is possibly the most heroic character in the series? And that's not mentioning the fact that he started with the same roots that Chosen did. A rogue stick figure who fought against Alan before redeeming himself. Keep in mind, The Second Coming only exists because of The Chosen One's actions. So all things considered... maybe his redemption was a lot more inevitable than any of us first thought.

The first (probably? maybe?) book Alan Wake forgot he had written

Always, Alan, always.

Alright, in my last post I left a few questions unanswered and I want to clear them up one by one. I honestly didn’t believe that so many people would read the theory, and am very grateful for the attention it has received. This whole blog was created to write down everything my brain (and my dear fellow theorist J) cooked up after playing and replaying AW, AWAN, Control and AWII, and I would like to sort it all by writing about each point in details. It helps to make it make sense and notice the holes.

Now, let’s cut to the chase. The first point I mentioned last time was:

in the guide for the first game we can read excerpts from the book “Taken by the Dark Presence” found in a shoebox that has no author, but has initials of T.Z. and J.Z. on some pages, apparently written in the late 1960’s. And, oh boy, I have lots of questions for this one!

I will lay out what I’ve found and then my thoughts about it, and also how it all ties to “who wrote what”, because the buzzing question of “who wrote whom”is not something I’m interested in exploring atm. At least not until I will deal with the whole “Thomas ‘Tom’ Zane” mystery.

So, the book from the shoebox titled “Taken by the Dark Presence”. It’s filled with tips and tricks about enemies that we encounter on Alan’s journey and how to deal with them. Obviously, there is a lot of info, but I’ve chosen bits that are important for my purposes. Here are those excerpts from it:

It is stated, as you can see, in the introduction to this section of the guide, that focuses on fighting the Taken and Poltergeists, that the information is drawn from the book of an unknown writer, who composed it in the late 1960, with a little hint of initials and a huge hint of the POV being Thomas Zane’s: “corporeal form is my Barbara. My dear, sweet love.”

It does go against my theory of Thomas spending a week with Barbara-the-Dark-Presence in the cabin, not going outside to face Taken; after all, the info there is a text book of “tell me it was written by Thomas Zane without telling it”. If not for mentioning the Dark Presence wearing Barbara’s skin, it would be fine on that account; we have strong evidence that Taken were lurking around even before Thomas wrote his piece to bring Barbara back. Yes, Robert “The Colonel” Hambleton’s article will be repeated here:

And the end result of the poor writer’s visit:

All point to Thomas actually being in the midst of fighting and fleeing, although I cannot even start guessing for what and from what, I will again stress out two pieces of information that point to the Dark Presence playing the role of the loving Barbara, as it was written by Thomas:

And Cynthia’s words:

“The witch looked like her, but it wasn’t. Barbara was sweet. He didn’t understand until it was too late. He tried to undo it, wrote himself, her, everything he’d ever written out of the world.”

Thomas, as we can guess, didn’t understand who hid behind Barbara’s face for some time, and, when he did, was free to tie her, carve her heart out and write this secret poem, mentioned in “This House of Dreams”, that allowed him to escape, giving up his body to the Bright Presence, and drag the real Barbara’s essence (soul, spirit) with what was left of him into a safe heaven, their personal paradise. So, why would he run into the forest and fight bulldozers and Taken?

He didn’t. There is one little thing that makes this book’s author surely not Thomas — the flashbangs. I’m in no way a weapon enthusiast, let alone, specialist, but I’m alright with search engines. As far as the history of this particular grenade goes, it was invented by the British Army in the late 70s and adopted by the US some years later. Thomas Zane, who lived only till 1970, couldn’t have knowledge, let alone, this very item on his hands at the time. Yet it’s clearly stated in the book: “flashbang attacks if possible” and “coax numerous enemies around you, and then drop a flashbang”. In the first game even Alan is surprised to find this weapon not in the police cars:

And he lives in 2010, when flashbangs are already a known weapon, although, as I understand are not so easily obtained by civilians (if not at all; I’m not from US and can rely only on the info from the internet). It seems as if this particular bunch of flashbang-nades was placed there by some otherworldly means.

Taking all that, my belief is that “Taken by the Dark Presence” is a book written into reality by Alan — to help him on his journey — after he decided to make himself a protagonist in the story the Dark Presence was forcing him to write. Through the “Writer in the Cabin” TV’s we see how he slowly changes his stance on his “editor”, how he realises that something is wrong and he must change the story, giving himself the best chance to survive to save Alice (and not to plunge the world into eternal darkness preferably). That will also explain the J.Z. initials on the pages of the book: Alan, during that week, was not thinking clearly and could just mess names up.

CHICAGO—The longtime leader of the Anti-Defamation League, who now serves as director emeritus, expressed concern about Jews being forced to meet in "secret locations" at the Democratic National Convention due to security threats and anti-Semitism.

"I know in my heart that in the future, it will be better, for Jews in America, then [sic] it is today. But I fear it will never be the same," said Abraham Foxman in a Twitter post on Wednesday.

"After 50 years fighting anti-Semitism in America, I could not have imagined a time Jews would have to meet in secret locations in Chicago at DNC."

Foxman, a Holocaust survivor, served as director of the Jewish civil rights organization from 1987 to 2015. The ADL is now run by Jonathan Greenblatt, a former Obama aide, who has steered it in a much more partisan direction.

Foxman’s comments come as Jewish groups holding events on the sidelines of the convention have kept their meeting locations a closely guarded secret.

The Jewish Democratic Council of America held panel discussions with former U.S. ambassador to Spain Alan Solomont and Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D., Fla.), but attendees were required to register before receiving the location. Private security and metal detectors were present at both events.

The Israeli-American Council only disclosed the location for its "Hostage Square" discussion to attendees a few hours before it started, the Times of Israel reported on Wednesday.

The security concerns appeared justified. On Tuesday, pro-Hamas agitators disrupted a DNC event with hostage families hosted by Agudath Israel of America, an Orthodox Jewish group. The protesters shouted, "Zionism has got to fall" and "Shame on you" at attendees. Dozens of anti-Israel protesters were also arrested after clashing with police near the convention Tuesday night.

Jewish Democratic leaders acknowledged the concerns about anti-Semitism at the DNC but also downplayed the divisions within their party.

Wasserman Schultz, speaking at a JDCA event on Thursday, said she had "angst for over a week over what the reaction would be" when the parents of Hersh Goldberg-Polin, one of the eight Americans being held captive by Hamas, spoke at the DNC on Wednesday.

Wasserman Schultz said there was a lot of "hype about how many protesters there were going to be," and she felt relieved when there were no disruptions from the audience.

But Democratic politicians have also seemed reluctant to mention Israel’s war with Hamas and the Oct. 7 attacks on the convention stage. None of the prominent Jewish Democratic speakers—including second gentleman Doug Emhoff, Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer, and Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro—mentioned Israel or the hostage crisis in their remarks.

The only speakers to broach the subject were Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D., N.Y.) and Minnesota attorney general Keith Ellison, who are aligned with the left-leaning anti-Israel movement. Both politicians called for an Israeli ceasefire.

President Joe Biden briefly acknowledged the anti-Israel protests in his speech on Monday, saying the activists "have a point."

So now that you finished LN13 - what is your opinion on it? What did you like? Was there something you didn't like?

I am not sure I can organize my thoughts well but I'll do my best 😅.

Overall, this volume was really dense! A lot happened and a lot of information was given on various fronts: dark magic, the organization, Monkey Girl's past life, worldbuilding, Uncle Stuart...

Lots of intriguing parts:

Who manipulated Katarina's body when she lost control of her body? Could it have been the OG!Katarina part in her?

Why could Maria feel the use of dark magic without seeing dark magic? Can Marquis Dieke(?) use dark magic in a special way?

Why would Marquis Dieke(?) be in the organization? If he pulled the strings in Raphael's incident, does it mean he manipulated Raphael?

If the man really is Marquis Dieke, shouldn't Raphael have a role in Fortune Lover 2? Raphael can't be the second hidden capture target?

What's with Marquis Dieke(?)'s resemblance with Laura? Still, they can't be the same person since the man has wind magic while Laura is said to have fire magic.

Why didn't Sarah say a single line in this story? Why was her face hidden when Katarina saw her unconscious on the floor?

Why did Sarah go on her mission with thugs this time?

Why did Uncle Stuart dust off the leaves on Katarina's head even though he appears to hate her?

Is the fact that Nathan is missing on the day we see Uncle Stuart supposed to lead us to think they are the same person?

Dark magic was already around before normal magic was developed in Sorcier? Could dark magic be some kind of fundamental magic?

How will Sorcier's old tales impact the story? We have already seen the place to power up magic in LN7, now there is a mention of the founders of Sorcier again. How about the tales of the rampaging beast?

Is it a coincidence that Katarina lost control after getting back the pocket mirror object?

How did OG!Katarina learn magic?

So Maria is not immune to dark magic after all?

If the organization attacked Maria to prevent her from using her spell, why didn't Marquis Dieke(?) try to capture Maria?

Why didn't Pochi come out when Katarina was fighting?

the cold thing in Katarina's body, the black thing in Geordo's heart. I wonder if they are related

could the black thing in Geordo's heart be dark magic? Could he be manipulated by dark magic? Could he have dark magic inside him?

The volume was heavily focused on Cezar's romance. I was surprised Cezar was given so many sweet moments as if to set him up as Geordo's rival. The moments are nice but I am kind of neutral regarding Cezar. He has so many sides to his personality that it feels inconsistent at times: the sulking little brother, the workaholic concerned for his country, the adventurous and easygoing mercenary, and the two-faced prince. I didn't like it when he willingly deceived Maria and decided he would work on making Sorcier indebted to him so that he could marry Katarina. It felt like he wasn't a kind person concerned for his country after all. He also had no afterthoughts about Liam even so he almost made him cry with happiness. But Cezar is kinda fun in mercenary mode. I loved his moments with Katarina in chapter 4.

Also, I love Jean. Each time Jean appeared, I loved it. How he smoothly played wingman is fun to see.

But since this volume was focused on Cezar, the romance didn't develop at all for the others. Keith barely had any lines, and Nicol and Alan didn't get even one line, which is a shame.

I loved Maria's scene when she confronted Cezar. Seeing Maria with so much fighting spirit was a sight. I was surprised she was willing to confront a prince because I thought she didn't compete with the others because of their high-ranking status. She confronted Cezar, used the fiancée card against him, and smoothly prevented him from going home with Katarina. It feels like she has learned from looking at Geordo and Keith bickering, and looking at Mary scheming against Geordo.

I definitely love how Raphael had so many scenes in this volume. I like how it might imply he will have a big role later on, regardless of his possible connection with Sarah.

I also loved Laura's scenes in the volume. Whether Laura bonds with Katarina or with Raphael. Supposing Laura is Marquis Dieke, I wonder how he would consider Raphael.

It seems like Cezar is still in Sorcier by the end of the volume. Katarina has finished his route, so maybe he will lose his "capture target" status and ask for his member card in the harem? There were also so many stories about Monkey Girl's older brother that it feels like he might be revealed in the next volume. Also, with Marquis Dieke(?) mentioning how Katarina could work on their side, I wonder if it will happen in the future.

I just had a mental image of HAitO post-staff Alan and King meeting. I don't think Purple would have had the time to tell him about Alan after getting the icon and would probably forget to tell him later, and Alan probably wouldn't manage to reach the nether so soon either.

So the first time they meet King has a near heart attack.

Purple maybe coming to visit the color gang, and offers for Mango to come with, and Mango's just like... alright. Sure. Hopefully this won't be... awkward... but it seems the color gang has forgiven them, which is- also mildly concerning after what he did but- okay.

So they arrive. And it's.

It's a cave. Why do these kids live in a cave. It's obvious they live here- there's rooms built into the side of the wall, a mix of both the actual cave wall and some minecraft blocks. These kids- these kids have parents, right? Right?

And the color gang greet them, and Mango's looking around...

Until there's a thud- which makes him tense- why are none of the other's reacting, not even Purple, what- again. The ground is shaking a bit, what is-

...And then this giant appears... white eyes- no, those are glasses- staring down towards Mango... it's mouth pulled into a frown-

...And then one of the color gang calls out "Dad!"

...And It's hard to know if Mango passed out or not.

Who's Who In The DC Universe: Batman of Earth-One and the Batman of Earth-Two

Batman of Earth-Two by Dave Gibbons & Batman of Earth-One by Dick Giordano

Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman had versions on Earth-One and Earth-Two, mainly due to being members of the Justice Society and the Justice League. Other heroes like the Flash (Jay Garrick/Barry Allen) and Green Lantern (Alan Scott/Hal Jordan) were separate individuals using the same identity on different earths while the Trinity were always Bruce, Clark, and Diana.

The easiest way to cover the Batman entries would be to start with the similarities:

Both Batmen are named Bruce Wayne and hail from Gotham City

Parents were named Thomas and Martha Wayne

Both have an uncle named Philip Wayne

Thomas and Martha Wayne were murdered by Joe Chill after leaving a movie theater. A traumatized Bruce witnessed the murders.

Bruce spent his formative years developing his mind and body to perfection.

Bruce adopted the Batman identity. A large bat crashing through a den in Wayne Manor inspired the creation of the Batman.

At first Batman had a rocky relationship with the police but later formed a partnership with Jim Gordon

Bruce took the recently orphaned Dick Grayson under his wing. Dick later became Robin the Boy Wonder.

And now, the details unique to each version:

Earth-Two:

While Thomas was shot by Joe Chill (causing his death), the shock of seeing his death caused Martha to have a fatal heart attack.

Bruce was placed under the guardianship of his Uncle Phillip who raised him to adulthood.

Bruce moved back into Wayne Manor after coming into his inheritance.

Batman carried a gun in his first few cases but soon gave it up.

He was a charter member of the Justice Society and the All-Star Squadron.

He maintained his playboy image until the late 1950s, when he married Selina Kyle (Catwoman).

He semi-retired the Batman identity once he reached middle age and became the Gotham City Police Commissioner upon Jim Gordon’s retirement.

Bruce and Selena had a daughter named Helena.

Selina died at the hands of a former criminal colleague, inspiring Helena to become the Huntress. Bruce gave up the Batman identiy entirely after Selina’s death.

A year after the debut of the Huntress, Bruce donned the Batman uniform for the final time. He died aiding the Justice Society, saving Gotham from a super-powered criminal.

Relatives unique to Earth-Two Bruce: Selina Kyle (wife), Helena Wayne (daughter), and Karl Kyle (brother-in-law).

Earth-One:

Relatives unique to Earth-One Bruce: Lord Elwood Wayne (uncle, deceased)

A young (pre-murders) Bruce Wayne admired a costume Thomas wore to a party. It would later inspire the creation of the Batman uniform.

Joe Chill was acting under the orders of Lew Moxon. Moxon was seeking revenge against Thomas Wayne as his testimony had sent Moxon to prison.

Bruce way placed under the care of his uncle Philip. Philip was a world-class traveler, so Bruce spent his formative years under the guidance of Philip’s housekeeper, Mrs. Chilton. Unknown to Bruce, Chilton was Joe Chill’s mother.

Bruce served an apprenticeship under Harvey Harris (the world’s foremost detective) while training to be Batman.

Frustrated by laws that seemed to help criminals more than their victims, Bruce left law school.

As on Earth-Two, Bruce took Dick Grayson under his wing. The difference being that Dick’s costume was inspired by the one Bruce wore while serving as an apprentice under Harvey Harris.

Bruce left his playboy image for a time and devoted himself to running Wayne Enterprises and building the Wayne Foundation into one of the world’s foremost philanthropic organizations. He later relinquished his day-to-day involvement in the organizations to devote more time to being Batman.

Bruce has recently become the guardian of Jason Todd, a young circus performer whose parents were murdered by Croc. Todd has since become the new Robin.

Batman, a founding member of the Justice League, has recently resigned due to a philosophical dispute over law and justice.

He has recently formed a new team called the Outsiders.

The next few entries are of Batman’s utility belt, the Batmobile, the Batplane, and the Batboat. Mostly drawings with some basic information.

Everybody knows Batman. Ask any non-comic book fans to name a superhero, and you have a ninety percent chance of the person responding with Batman. He’s had a bazillion comic books where he is the focus and has made millions of guest appearances in other comics. As for non-comic book media…he’s easily the most featured hero of all time. No one else comes close. Batman has starred in radio dramas, multiple movies and tv series, along with many cartoon series and animated movies. And numerous video games. Not to mention all the merchandising.

Whether you love or hate the character, if you were to make a list of the top 100 super-heroes of all time, you would have a hard time justifying not putting Batman in the #1 spot.

I love certain versions of Bruce (the bronze age, BTAS/DCAU, Justice League International, Young Justice cartoon, Wayne Family Adventures) and despise others (the majority of the 2000s).

As for the actual Who’s Who entries:

I miss the Bruce – Selina marriage. The cop-out during the King run was lame. And infuriating if you spent money on all the tie-in issues (which I did not).

I wish Helena would be born during curing continuity (I know adult Helena is running with the JSA but I want baby Helena just for the interactions with her bat-siblings).

If the “Bruce was placed under a housekeeper’s care while his guardian travelled the world” bit was canon in the post-Crisis era it would have been a great element to add to the Bruce-Tim Drake bond.

I don’t like the Dick’s costume was inspired by Bruce bit. Dick’s Robin indentiy is inspired by his parents only.

I hate Jason’s pre-Crisis origin. “He’s exactly like Dick but with red hair but we’ll dye it black” – that’s the best you could do, DC? Seriously?
