Mizutsuki Sui and Irakusa Achlys

Here is the first batch of name changes! We've got the childhood friend, Mizutsuki Sui (formerly Mizunami Haruto) and the brooding Irakusa Achlys (Formerly Irakusa Akuros)

I'll put the name etymology under the cut for those who are interested ^-^

Mizutsuki uses the kanji 水(mizu) "water" and 月(tsuki) "moon" Sui uses the on'yomi reading of the kanji 水(sui) "water" Additionally, the name for the moon jellyfish in kanji can be written as 水水月.

Irakusa uses the kanji spelling of the stinging nettle 刺草(irakusa), which is the English namesake of the Chrysaora achlyos (Black Sea Nettle) Achlys (アキリス) is the Greek personification of sorrow as well as the "Mist" blinding mortal eyes upon death, as well as the namesake for the scientific name of the Black Sea Nettle.

Students across the nation in all 50 states looked up at their class projector screen this year and witnessed what some describe as “alien-like life decked out in discoware grooving across the dance floor!”

While kids have access to a lot of interesting content these days, it's not often a student can watch microscopic life magnified and projected over the internet by plankton experts. The featured plankton was collected from surface waters just off of San Francisco, and shared nationwide as part of the celebration of NOAA’s National Marine Sanctuary System’s 50th anniversary.

What's going on in this clip?

This tiny free-swimming jellyfish larva is called an ephyra. As it feeds and grows it will develop the stinging tentacles of an adult jellyfish. Visual description: Translucent, microscopic living organism pulses several times.

Drew a Katsuo in hakama (with ref!). It's surprisingly fun..... All the pleats..... the pocket-like opening.... hehe (I also think I've finally found a style for the hikurage, hehe. The wikipedia image kinda stinks ngl)

Also drew a quick Akuros in miko uniform!... equally cute

Irakusa, Akuros

This is Irakusa, Akuros (刺草 アクロス), the jerk of the jellyfish otome game :). I’m very excited to show him off, ehe. Pronouns are he/him........ I’m considering she/her pronouns as well but I’m not sure if it’ll work out. So for now, I’m just sticking with he/him

Irakusa consists of 刺草 (irakusa)- literally “Nettle” in japanese

Akurosconsists of the katakana アクロス, which sounds similar to his species name, C. achylos. "クロ" is also the word for black, a nod to the species' common name the black sea nettle.

He is secretly a big fan of a certain kid’s show in-universe. One of the other characters is actually into it too, but he doesn’t engage in fear of looking like an idiot

He claims that there are jellyfishes he wishes to kill, and tirelessly spends his time tracking them down. He has no leads though, unfortunately.

And, for the first time, I actually have the human form prepared now as well :)!

Human Notes:

i still haven’t hashed out how he’d wear the human uniform- mostly because I’ll prepare a more jellyfish-like uniform for everyone later haha. The Gakuten is certainly a good look tho :>

His hair is dual coloured- black and strawberry blonde (I am a huge sucker for pink)

He also wears a pink scrunchie :)

That cheek scar doesn’t really have any edgy meaning- he had a cut and picked at the scab too early (even though his parents TOLD him not to lmao)

i haven’t drawn a full-body for him yet, but his pant legs are long. He refuses to get them hemmed (think: Chili Pokemon’s pant legs)

I have. Very little data atm so I gotta get this post out fast but.

I was watching a lil presentation on Baja California and I'm disappointed that I didn't hear the Black Sea Nettle come up- mostly because they were talking about species that were successfully brought back from endangerment status (Elephant Seals, some kind of bird, and Grey Whales).

Which unfortunately does not include the Black Sea Nettle as it actively benefits from global warming and ocean acidification and stuff.

Akuros is more or less self conscious about the fact that he's sort of a pest (to humans, but not to me I know better than that) and doesn't get to be in the cool presentation about Baja California.
