after many, many, MANY hours, i have finally completed persona 5 royal and am now presenting my thoughts. overall i think i have to rate it a 4.5/10, with a note that rather than being generally mid, it swings so wildly between the good and the bad that it evens out just below average for me

spoilers for ALL of the game under the cut including 3rd semester

the good:

this game is STYLISH. that is probably the first thing everyone says about this game but it's true and it has to be said. everything from the hud to the settings menu is themed, it's slick and fun and just really well done

the music slaps. again, gets said a lot, but has to be acknowledged. so good

in theory the gameplay loop is fun. the swapping between dungeon crawling in the palaces and the daily social links is interesting, and for the first good 40 hours of the game or so i found it really addictive and well balanced (yes in spite of the tutorial)

the characters were (mostly) likeable and there were some good social link stories- notable mentions include futaba, sojiro and yoshida

i loved walking around tokyo, it felt very immersive. i used to travel to shibuya all the time for work and it was a lot of fun recognising the spots and even the way you walk out of the train station!

the bad:

IT'S TOO LONG. it's just too long. my save file is at 119 hours after completing the game. i spread this out over an irl year of playing the game. i was still so burnt out when i got to the end my main emotion was RELIEF. you could cut this game down to like half of this run time and it would only benefit it. there is so dialogue spent just repeating points you already know, or scenes that you have to play on a regular basis (eg me spamming through doing affinity readings or kawakami making coffee or WHATEVER), and it is not to the benefit of the game at all

the excessive length also makes other parts of the game that would otherwise be forgivable into absolute slogs. stuff like the combat being mostly way too easy (with the exception of random frustration spikes like okumura), or the fact that so many of the confidants follow the exact same pattern down to which rank you’re going to be asked to arbitrarily go to mementos to solve their problem- these would be much less annoying if i didnt have to do it SO MUCH AGAIN AND AGAIN

on that note oh my god mementos. i fucking hate mementos. most boring content in existence and when i found out they made more of it in the third semester i screamed out loud

ren/akira/joker as a self-insert main character did not work for me and that negatively impacted just about every character relationship with him for me (especially the romances) because it just felt like there was nothing for people to connect to. he’s just so… nothing, but at the same time wasn't enough of a blank slate for me to feel like i could fully project onto him as a self-insert

i think joker could have worked better for me if they either a) made him a more defined character (my preference), OR if they insist on sticking with a self-insert, make the dialogue options were varied. i don’t expect branching options but i do appreciate it when you at least pretend to give me some agency about the replies my character gives, it can mean a lot in a roleplaying game to actually feel like you're, yknow, roleplaying

i generally like the bombastic wild designs persona has for enemies and stuff but i really struggle to take some of the characters seriously when their masks look like this

IN PARTICULAR why is futaba's whole metaverse outfit so ugly. do my girl justice

akechi is a character who i feel will make for very compelling fanfiction but unfortunately i found his actual canon depiction underwhelming

the entire way they handled kawakami as a confidant and the fact you can choose her as a romance option. INSANELY uncomfortable and negates the point of her entire story arc about deciding to care about her students again and not get extorted anymore, but then you as the player character can date her, can continue to get her to do your manual labour for you and give you massages, which you're heavily incentivised to do because it's so useful as a gameplay mechanic. it is SO UNCOMFORTABLE

maybe i'll make a separate post breaking down my thoughts about each confidant because i have other issues with other peoples arcs but kawakami was the most egregious. as if people havent heard me rant enough already

in general that thing of the game undermining its own messages for the sake of either very bad comedy or fanservice is a reoccuring issue. unfortunately very anime in that sense. as well as kawakami: - you spend the entire first dungeon of the game talking about how shitty this perverted teacher is for his treatment of ann and trying to assault her and then i have to spend the rest of the game sitting through MULTIPLE fanservice jokes about ann (this underage girl btw) being really Hot and Sexy and forcing her to strip for yusuke - ryuji risked his life to save the others and then the girls... beat him up for it? it was clearly meant for comedy, but god did it land flat - the game proves over and over again that the police and justice system is corrupt and ineffective but they never actually seem to... want to do anything about it? makoto literally says she's going to become a cop at the end of her confidant arc!!! girl!!!

their solution to the justice system being shit is to get people to confess to their crimes and Feel Bad, where the villains then proceed to.... be handled under the same justice system we have i guess? as though the issue here was just the fact that bad guys wouldn't confess, and we don't need to look at, hey, why do these people commit the crimes they do, how do we handle punishment vs rehabilitation, etc.

it's weird because they do sort of dance around this topic sometimes (like with akechi's fucked up upbringing) but it always feels like they're scared of diving too deep into it. i don't expect a full marxist re-examining of society from highschoolers but idk man, for SUCH a long game i feel like it was a weirdly shallow reading of the societal issues around authority and crime

Okay! I think I have a general idea of how Akira and Shigeru’s powers work in the Metaverse, and no, they do not have personas (yet 👀)

So basically Igor and the Velvet Room let the two have a tiny fraction of their godly powers, and that basically translates to the equal amount of power nerfed level 99 persona would have, the two are powerful as hell.

Shigeru and Akira’s powers are basically light and dark, as well as some other powers their God forms have, like Shigeru can use the 7 deadly sins as watered down status ailments/physical attacks, and Akira can use almighty attacks.

Shigeru actually likes making light constructs, if you remember me saying a while back that Shigeru could summon a bird construct, that’s basically it, they summon a light construct of a bird, and Shigeru sends it to help the pt’s sometimes when the two are at too far of a distance.

Akira can work with shadows, like darkness, not Shadows lol, his attacks are more brunt force and power house, while Shigeru’s are more accurate and more hits he gets in.

I’m really bouncing around here because It’s really hard to explain how their powers work for me, but just imagine persona 5 mechanics but they got nothin to summon.

And also, Shigeru 100% awakens to a persona when they go face to face with their godly counterpart in the final battle. Idk when Akira awakens to his…probably either in Shido’s palace or Maruki’s. But Shigeru awakens to theirs because they come to terms with what they did and admit to it, and they finally become “Shigeru Ochida” instead of “Yaldabaoth”

Akira’s is similar, he comes to terms with the fact that he’s his own person now, and is not just a part of Ren, but is Akira Amano instead, and learns to accept that.

Shigeru is also the navi for the duo, and he’s JUST like Akechi during 3rd semester, constantly making sarcastic remarks, insulting Akira whenever he gets knocked down or affected with an ailment (“Did you REALLY just get knocked out?! I KNOW you did not just leave this fight to me asshole! Did you even SEE that Shadow RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOUR EYES?!”) Akira can get a bit emotional about this, but he refuses to cry about it.

also you’ve probably noticed by now, that i ship these two fucking losers around 75%, I’m a sucker for dumbasses who are forced to work together, and besides, they are forced to share a braincell the moment they go in a 5 mile radius of each other, what’s not to love? If you don’t like that, tell me and I’ll 100% stop talking about them that way 👌 (that sounded sarcastic/rude whenever i say it in my head😔)

Persona 5 fanfic idea

So Ren (or Akira which ever u choose) doesn’t become a phantom thief. Perhaps he dropped his phone on the first day or something but he doesn’t become a thief while the others still do.

Now the group doesn’t have anything against Ren. Like yeah he’s got a record but while he’s been here he hasn’t caused any trouble and Ann even says that he just kinda sticks to himself and keeps his head down so they never decide to go after him saying that he deserves a change to change for himself.

Anyway skipping to when the principal has to die. Shido gives Akechi the order and tells him to make sure it’s not linked back to the mental shutdowns for whatever fucking reason idk. So Akechi starts looking into ways to do that and is like “hey, there a kid at that school with an assault charge. Let’s just have that kid do it than ‘commit suicide’ in police custody.” This works out even better bc Ren decided not to go on the school trip (he’s not treated well by this classmates)

So Akechi finds Ren’s shadow, turns him psychotic, tells him what to do and waits for the kid to get caught…

… only he never does…

Ren gets away with it. And hasn’t seemed to of had a mental shutdown which normal happened to shadows when the effects of psychotic runs out. So, not wanting a loose end running around, Akechi goes to find Ren’s shadow only to find a palace has appeared overnight.

Bc u see unknown to Akechi is that bc Ren is a wildcard he is rather powerful in the metaverse, even if he’s not a persona user. That natural power plus the power up given by being turned psychotic, made him powerful enough to not only avoid a mental shut down but form a palace in a day.

While at first this seems like a problem Akechi finds out that this can actually work in his favour. U see he has a certain level of control over the shadows he turns psychotic and while Ren has shaken most of that control by now, there is enough there that Akechi can still manipulate him into doing his bidding. 

So now Akechi has the perfect follower. Someone that will do whatever he needs to without any idea of y he’s doing it and no connection back to him in the real world.

Bc of this Akechi forces Ren to help him with many things. Information gathering, stealing, other murders and Ren can’t stop it. At this point whenever Akechi gives him an order he’s basically not in control of himself.

And so after awhile Ren gets desperate. He desperately wants to stop doing this, to stop hurting people but he doesn’t even know y he’s doing it so he turns to the only people he thinks could help. The Phantom Thieves. Lucky for him the girl that sits in front of him just so happens to be one of them, not that she knows he knows but it’s not that hard to figure out when she talks to her cat so much. 

I like to think that his palace is a prison but it’s been overthrown by the inmates with shadow!Ren as their leader. Perhaps when the team first meet Shadow!ren he said something only the lines of “he said u would come” tipping them off that something else is at play. During the mission they figure out Ren is getting orders from someone else but don’t know who. It isn’t until after they defeat Shadow!ren tho do they learn that he was being controlled by the black mask.

I also like to think that in his calling card it calls him ‘prisoner of fate.’ And basically says that something is controlling him and they r going to steal his treasure to ‘free him from his fate’

After being freed it’s only bc of the reassurance of the thieves that someone else was controlling him and his actions weren’t his own that he doesn’t turn himself in. Bc even they r like- yeah I don’t deserve to go to prison for this u did nothing wrong.

for one I'm a believer that at least the main cast of 4 & 5 are like Poly and have different relationships within that, so I'll write within those relationships, but also somewhere it's one-off

when it comes to the adults that you can romance in these games, they will be minimal to non romantically, and when it comes to some characters (cough* Futaba) they will be treated as the same age as the main cast (as I put it with my friend about Futaba. "Well, she is 15 at the start of the game Yusuke is 17. Which yes weird for high schoolers and middle schoolers to date but we also don't have the same kind of school structure that Japan has to where Futaba would be either in high school or just about to join the next semester after Joker leaves. Not to mention we can't make age arguments in a game where you can date your teacher, a drunk, and a doctor who all use mc for info or money. This is just simply them like holding hands lol. Knowing their characters they wouldn't even think of any actual romantic aspects till there in their 20s" to which he replied "Plus Yusuke is gay as fuck")

I really like these questions, so I wanted to take the time to answer them! 

1. Favorite line: 

I think this is really hard to narrow down but I love some of the lines that characters say before getting their awakening cutscenes like Ryuji’s “Stop looking down on me with that stupid smile on your face!” and and Sumire’s “You’re telling me I’m not cutting it? As if I don’t know that better than anyone!” 

I also really love both the engine room scene and Yusuke’s awakening so so much 

Least Favorite: 

My least favorite scene is probably Morgana’s argument with the thieves and the subsequent scene in Mementos with him. It’s such petty drama that could have been resolved 5 times over before that point because the phantom thieves ask him to tell them what’s wrong several times before he runs off. Not to mention that it makes Haru look....kinda stupid given that she tells the phantom thieves that she cannot join them because they aren’t helping Morgana when Morgana is repeatedly and outwardly antagonizing them every time they try to meet him halfway 

2. Favorite Character: I think Goro is one of my characters of all time but I’m also very partial to Sumire and Yusuke. I like most the Phantom Thieves ^^

Least Favorite: Makoto or Mishima for sure. Makoto for being a cop but Mishima just commits the cardinal sin of character that is so deeply annoying

4. I haven’t paused the game but I will let the menus sit open to hear him make his little anime boy noises 

5. I think despite being bisexual Ann gets the most women, but if we’re talking who I think is exclusively attracted to their same gender it’s Futaba because everyone else is bi to me 

6. I did! Her scenes in the third semester brought me very close to crying

7. Favorite: most Akechi, Akira or Ann ships 

Least favorite: I like Shuake but I’m gonna say shuake because a lot of shuake fans make the entire game about the ship which spoils it for me. I’m also gonna say Shutaba, Shumako and Yutaba

8. Best Phantom thief outfit is a tie between Sumire and Yusuke for me! They’re both exuding gender 

Worst: Makoto’s, it’s def an eyesore

9. I think it’s not that Haru had too little screentime it’s that her introduction was entirely overshadowed by Morgana (who’s arc was bad) and then she wasn’t developed much beyond her relationship with her dad after that 

10. Favorite social link is probably a tie between Haru, Yusuke and Futaba’s, all really solid character arcs that are explored with a so much depth they could probably make a visual novel of each independent arc 

Least favorite: Hot take...Akechi’s because on their own it’s mismatched scenes and the game itself is really where the meat of his arc is, and Makoto’s for having the whole thing support her profiling someone and then being a cop. Ohya too for being all tell and no show 

11. Best Confidant: Tie between Hifumi and Iwai 

Worst: Ohya or Mishima 

12. I have a big preference for Royal for having an overall tighter story and making Akechi a manual confidant, really adds to his main plot even if I think that on its own his social link is just okay

14. The entire Kaneshiro arc. It’s only there to put Makoto on the team and literally nothing would change if Kaneshiro was a shadow in mementos 

15: Best line: I really love most of the royal trio’s dialog, as well as Maruki’s. One of Maruki’s lines that most sticks out to me is “I must have always been afraid that you and I wouldn’t wish for the same reality” 

Worst: Literally all of the dialog in the okumura arc. They would not fucking say that 

16. Akira. I don’t care if Ren is the name that Atlus picked, this man is Akira to me 

17. Best Palace: Madarame, Sae, Shido and Maruki are all tied for me 

Worst: I think the Okumura arc sucks but honestly the spaceship being a monument to greed is pretty cool! The worst palace is probably Kaneshiro’s for being just kinda unimaginative and boring 

18. Best Palace theme: Gentle Madman, Ark, Price and the alternate version of A Woman are all pretty great to me 

Worst: Sweatshop, Days When Mother Was There

21. It was so so good! I love how he takes similar actions to the Phantom Thieves and puts their actions in a legit moral gray because if what he’s doing negates the free will of others and the thieves have regarded that as a bad thing...what does that say about them?

23. I think that the one thing he wanted more than anything was to be loved, so perhaps that’s why he has the princely persona in the bad ending because he believes so deeply that nobody will love him as he is

Analyzing Persona 5 Characters Dancing Styles

I love both dancing and the Persona series so imagine my delight at knowing there are dancing games. Anyway, through the years of watching the dances, I’ve come to notice how much characterization is packed into them, whether it’s the style of dance or just how the moves are performed.

I plan on going over every game, I just wanted to split them up in different posts because these bad boys are gonna get really fucking long.

Anywho, let’s get on with the show, shall we?

(also, I will only be covering characters who are playable, so no velvet room attendants i’m afraid)

Akira/Ren

First watching his dances, he is very showy. He does drag turns, big spins, and kicks at the camera. It’s confident, it’s cocky, and most of the moves look like things he would do in the Metaverse. Yet, as he is our player character, there’s a sense of simplicity in his style. It’s very much jazz, but more specifically the kind you would see on Broadway. I can see his moves being used in Newsies. Jazz is one of the most common styles of dance, so him using it makes sense as it’s not as complex as other characters. However, him using specifically a more Broadway style of jazz is very telling for what character we do get from him. Joker is a showman at heart, so why wouldn’t we get a more Broadway jazzy style? On top of that, when he dances with others, he adjusts his style to match theirs. It’s very reminiscent of him adjusting his personality to fit whoever he’s around. He matches well with all of them, and it subtly shows how much of a leader Joker really is.

A fun thing I noticed while watching his “Wake Up, Get Up, Get Out There” dance is that he starts off his dance very closed off, even doing his noticeable habits (rubbing his neck, hands in pockets, etc.). As the song picks up, he gets more and more relaxed, more confident in his dancing and his moves show it, being big and eye-catching. It’s kind of like a mini character ark in a dance.

Morgana

It’s really hard to see his dancing, as most of your focus goes to his head. But as I look closer, it feels a lot like how you would see someone dance on the street. Out of all the mascot characters, his dance style feels the most human-like, as ironic as it is. It feels like he’s trying to do moves he’s seen humans dance, but due to his autonomy it just looks a little silly. Reminds me a bit of his desire to be human but everytime he tries it’s a little silly and not quite right. Also it’s very cutesy, though that’s probably more to due with his status as a mascot more than anything.

When he dances with others, it feels like he does his best to keep up. Again, hard to see how much the moves match, but he always dances like he wants to fit in, which is very character accurate.

Nothing I really noticed but his moves kind of remind me of Junpei’s, which is random but Magicians got to stick together!

Ryuji

Ryuji’s dancing is exactly like his personality; it’s big, it’s loud, and it’s fun as hell. Ryuji takes dancing like it’s exercise, with him running around stage and doing a lot of fast leg movements. He also combines popular dance moves, like the whip. All in all, his style is all over the place. It’s like a toddler’s finger painting. The only things I can really place is some shuffling and street dance, which both work. Ryuji is the most street smart of the group, and is the one who goes out into town the most barring Ann (and Joker but I don’t count him with these kind of things). Street dance is exactly what it sounds like, dances on the street, which Ryuji is probably exposed to.

While fine on his own, Ryuji shines when he dances with others. Everytime he’s paired with someone, he acts as a hypeman. It really showcases his role as the heart of the team and how much he cares for his friends. However, his style really matches up with Futaba, as whenever they partner, they basically are on the same wavelength with their moves. It’s honestly really fun to watch and showcases their dynamic very well. Him and Ann also work especially well together, again showcasing their close bond.

One thing I find myself thinking is that they’re in a dreamworld, being able to dance based on their imagination. Ryuji having a ton of leg moves and runs in his routines makes sense, as his leg probably has it’s whole mobility back and doesn’t hurt on top of that. Why wouldn’t he do the things he couldn’t do anymore?

Ann

Ann’s style is extremely performance based. She’s putting on a show for people, which of course she’s used to. She uses a lot of waacking and voguing, with some hints of jazz. I find it interesting that her style is more Americanized than everyone else. I also find that her style is very sexual, tying into her reclaiming her sexuality (and how the game sexualizes her)

When she dances with other people, the biggest thing of note is that she seems happy. She works the best with Ryuji but style wise she fits Joker’s style the most. Nothing else much to note.

Nothing really of note in patterns, but I just love how waacking and voguing, two styles created and used mostly by the LGBTQ+ communities, is her main style. Bi Queen ❤️.

Yusuke

The main thing with his dance style is that it’s very picture-esc, where you could snap a picture at any time and get a beautiful pose. No doubt Yusuke made it that way on purpose. Style wise, it’s so very modern and contemporary with a slight hint of Faussi. He strives to tell a story with his dances, to push the emotion he wants to portray. Out of all of the thieves, he’s one who’s most expressive in this aspect of dance. It also is very fluid, a lot of his moves are continuous, flowing from one to next smoothly. It makes for when there is sharp movement stand out more, which again pushes the emotion.

When Yusuke dances with others, he stops focusing on his own moves. He pauses and watches the other person dancing, especially with Ann and Joker. Style wise, he and Futaba work the best together. They both work extremely well together, and have an extremely fun dynamic which shows through their duets.

I really have nothing extra to note but man it’s just so dramatic, I love watching his dances so much.

Makoto

Makoto’s dance style is very, very sharp. Every move is precise, every move is hard and has weight behind it. It has hints of hip-hop, but very very sharp hip hop. It seems she’s incorporating aikido poses into her dance, which makes her the fighter-dancer of this game. Every game has one. It matches really well, and honestly this couldn’t match her more.

When she dances with others, it’s like she takes control of the stage. Like she’ll do things her way and if they do something that she doesn’t agree with, she stops them and they do something else that matches the song better. As the team's planner, it makes complete sense. She’s fun to contrast with Haru, who’s style is almost the complete opposite.

What I noticed is while she’s giving it her all, she doesn’t seem to lose herself in it. Like she enjoys dancing, but she knows it’s not what she wants to really do, if that makes sense? I hope it does.

Futaba

Out of all the styles I would expect, tap of all things is not one of them. Of course, it’s not full on tap, but tap? Damn. Anyway, other than the tap, Futaba is literally a wildcard. Her moves are all over the place, and seem inspired by something like Love Life. It’s a fun mix-match of moves that leave you guessing what the next one is.

When she’s dancing with others, she seems a bit nervous but then goes wild. She’s basically another hype man, which makes her dances with Ryuji so fun to watch as they play off each other perfectly (my favorite example is when they literally have a headbang battle). As the support member, it makes sense how much she hyped up other characters.

I noticed she always seems nervous, before and after the dance. If you pick her, she can go “DHDJJD OK!” as if she wasn’t ready. In the huge group number, she goes the wrong way and has to book it back. I love how much it works for her, and love that they put this in for her.

Haru

Traditional ballet, specifically point. Like holy shit, these dances are the hardest out of every dance in the series. Point is the typical upper class dance classes, and traditionally very feminine. It’s likely her father forced her to learn the style (if I’m wrong you can let me know), whether to have something over other’s kids or just because he felt it was required.

Haru always stands out when she dances with others due to how much she sticks to her style. With some, it’s a very interesting contrast, and with others it even works out well. The only one who matches is Joker, due to him always matching everyone, and maybe Yusuke, which makes sense due to them being very similar (and being a dynamic that’s never capitalized on, Atlas we need the “shitty fathers club” to interact more)

I’ve noticed that Haru dances to songs that aren’t traditionally ballet songs, especially the “Will Power” remix (in her father’s palace no less). That feels like her way of claiming the dance style back for her own. She also does some moves that aren’t extremely ballet like, but feel very Haru like (if that makes sense lmao)

Akechi

He has about the same style as Joker, except his is more attention seeking, or attention seeking in a different way? Like while Joker is all “look at this cool shit I can do”, Akechi’s is more “Everyone! Look at me!” Joker’s is effortlessly attention grabbing while Akechi’s is very forced. Then around the middle of the song, he goes berserk. His moves are less thought, messier, and just generally crazy.

When he dances with others, he gets pissed to share the spotlight, Joker especially. With Joker, their similarities in dance style becomes even more apparent. I cannot stress how much their dynamic is shown in this mini duet, it’s so good.

Like Adachi’s and Shinjiro’s (I’ll get to Shinjiro later, Adachi’s is a maybe), Akechi’s dance is his story throughout the game. Starting from the charming detective prince to the broken and angry child. I love watching it so much.

Bonus! My personal ranking on how good I think they are as dancers!

Updated thoughts on where I’m at with “Persona 5″ (palace 3, I just need to send the calling card out):

1) My party rankings: Morgana > Makoto > Ryuji > Ann > Yusuke

Morgana is my prime healer, so he’s at the top of my list. Makoto is a great all-around character (her “nuke everybody” skill really comes in clutch). Ryuji is great at offense.

Ann...she’s fine but I feel like I’d rather have Ryuji or Makoto on my team. She’s great as a backup.

Yusuke, I hate to say this, is my least favorite mainly because he tends to die/get critically injured. I don’t know why this keeps happening since no matter how much I upgrade Yusuke, he gets his ass beat.

2) Not the biggest fan of how the game approaches the female characters. There’s this uncomfortable feeling of oversexualization, which stands out since the same can’t be said about the male characters. 

Ann’s whole character is that she’s seen only as as a sex object by Kamoshida and the student body. The story is technically fine since it’s about her standing up for herself and taking down her abuser...but the game undermines her story by having the heroes also objectify her (ex.: Yusuke forcing Ann to do nude modeling for him, Ryuji and Morgana trying to look up Ann’s skirt when she was sleeping). So, when the villains do it, it’s bad, but when the heroes do it, it’s good? 

Makoto’s character arc is a bit better, but still has some uncomfortable, skeevy undertones. If you fail palace 3, apparently Makoto will be forced to work as a prostitute or something. And then there’s the fact that the villain wants to keep Makoto’s sister as a slave (they don’t say “sex slave”, but the implication is there).

You know...I would’ve loved the option to customize Joker/Ren/Akira, especially being able to play as a female Joker. But now I’m wondering if that’d be a good idea considering this is how Atlus is treating their female characters.

3) I’m not 100% sold on the storyline just yet. Now that I have a better grasp of what’s going on, I’m not really feeling what the story is trying to do. I mean, yes, we are the Phantom Thieves. We’re a vigilante group that goes around “stealing” people’s hearts and making them change their ways. What I’m not convinced about is that we’re being treated like actual criminals.

Like...if we get caught, what the fuck are we gonna get charged with? “Joker, you’re under arrest for stealing the physical embodiment of the person’s desires. Also, apparently for trespassing as well since you entered the Upside Down through your iPhone without permission”. And the fact that everyone is going along with the “Phantom Thieves are actual criminals” perspective without questioning things is just baffling to me. 

This is lowkey reminding me of “Trauma Center”, another Atlus game. The story in that game was also pretty far-fetched and unbelievable, so that just might be Atlus’ way of writing stories. 

Also, maybe the story irks me in particular since I’m a lawyer-in-training. I’m just imagining myself in court defending the Phantom Thieves, yelling at the prosecution, “WHAT ARE THEY BEING CHARGED WITH?! THEY DIDN’T BREAK AN ACTUAL LAW!”

4) Palace 2 is definitely my favorite setting so far. Palace 1 began to annoy the shit out of me, especially with the music, while Palace 3 is just...okay. Palace 2 was very creative and I liked how the artist storyline meshed into the game

“I don’t wanna have to live in fear because I have to walk on eggshells around him. It’s not his fault this all happened, but— it’s his fault he keeps trying to hold in everything because I’m his daughter and he doesn’t think I’ll understand because I’m young and…” Akane raised her head. “I’m not some kid anymore! I’m not a baby! Let me help you guys, let me help him!”

Futaba bit her lip at the outburst. “Akane…”

“She’s right, you know.”

Everyone turned to the hallway entryway, seeing the former CEO of Madicce standing there with his eyes on the man laying in the girl’s arms. “Walking around on eggshells, living in fear— that’s no way to go about your life.” The eyes softened, and he turned his gaze to the carpet. “I’m the last one who should talk about that, of all things. I know what I’ve done, I know I can’t possibly make it up to all of you for last summer.”

Akira took a slow breath.

“But I know what it’s like to stand up to your father, even with the drastically different circumstances surrounding this situation. And I wish I got the support that I know you guys will give Akane when that time comes.” He looked Ren in the eyes. “If anyone has that power to make the impossible possible? It’s you kids.”

Ren never blinked, his voice steady. “…you have a lot of balls to face us after what happened.”

The CEO nodded slowly. “This is the least I can do for you all. My father caused this because of me; the notes, the fusion of the Metaverse and the human world- he’s creating a world of his own desires. Not for humanity, but for himself.” His jaw clenched. “…if I really had killed him years ago, then you wouldn’t be in this hell; you’d be enjoying your vacation with Hasegawa.”

Ryuji snorted. “Your old man’s a prick, but what he’s doing ain’t really your fault.”

“Maybe not,” Konoe murmured, “but it is my responsibility.”

Ann’s eyes softened; Konoe’s own gaze never wavered. “Let me do what I can to make sure you kids can fix this place, or whatever the hell it is you can do. Clearly we have to start at the wolf in the room.” He nodded to the unconscious Thief. “Let me at least get him comfortable and off the floor; don’t need you guys throwing out your backs for him.”
