Just used my shower chair for the first time after hanging it up (post hair trim shower & too hot for a bath).

The set up works well, though I may need the spouse's assistance on bad upper body days. I also love the stick-on shower head holder at the lower level (bought for sitting migraine therapy before the chair). The shower head pretty much lives there because it works so well for the kids & I.

WIP Wednesday

Have I finished my reorganization? *shifty eyes* No, but! See... *shuffles feet* I got distracted by the shiny dopamine and... well... I’m still working on it. 😝 Have some more orb WIP!

I'm working on how to display it... and this is still definitely a rough/1st draft, though the only one that will weigh this much (2.52 lb. / 1.14 kg)... and yeah, I've got plans for at least one more (I want to be able to make a mold of it so I can also make bookends) and already have an aluminum foil core ready.

I know "they” say “the DA fandom is dying” because it’s been so long since the last game was released but... y’all... Y’all are putting out so much great fanart and fanfic and screenshots and fanvids and the volume is simply astounding.

I read fast... I read A LOT... and I can’t keep up with just the Solasmancing side of the fandom.

I think “they” are full of shit.

On Commenting

I used to be one of those readers who just left Kudos on fics and very, VERY rarely commented.

Then, because of some of the posts I’ve seen here (and on Twitter), I started trying to at least leave a heart, or other, emoji comment on chapter updates for fics I subscribe to; sometimes using gifs, occasionally leaving longer comments, and commenting on one-shots.

I'm still mostly at that point but, thinking about those posts more, I am starting to try to leave comments on multi-chapter fics as I go (struggling, but trying); even if some of the chapter comments I leave are “just heart emojis,” when my spoons are low or I have no words (I’m not usually good with words). The feedback from writers has been, honestly, both heartwarming & heartbreaking.

Fanfic writers, of every caliber, are sharing a gift with us every time they post. And they are so appreciative of, what feels to me like, tiny crumbs of feedback. It blows my mind a little.

I mean, long comments filled with “I loved x” or “that phrasing there was so amazing” or “so and so tied back to y chapters and xyz and I can’t believe...” have got to be even better to receive, so if you can do that... please do.

But I’ve seen, firsthand, that even tiny, consistent, comments can make a big impact on someone’s day.

So toss a heart to your writers.

If you’re reading on your phone/tablet, emojis are on your keyboard. If you’re on a PC, you can insert a ♥ heart by holding down the Alt button and the 3 on the NumPad, on a Mac it’s Option and 2661. Or you can keep a tab open to Emojipedia and their thousands of emojis.

I think I have one, maybe two, CoX friends still around who might remember Smersh, Spring, & their offsprings' back stories.

Aisteach's Family's Yule Traditions

On the day of the longest night of the year, if a work day, I request an early departure from work because the sun sets before the end of my work day.

A duck is cooked on the rotisserie (we used to do a duck, duck, goose rotation until we realized that everyone preferred the duck. 😊) and a cake is baked ahead of time (always round w/yellow frosting).

At sunset, we turn off all the electric lights and appliances in the house; excepting the rotisserie, fridge, and heating. I have a collection of oil lamps that we use for light, along with a bunch of candles on the dining room table.

Potatoes & yams are wrapped in foil & baked in the fireplace (I really preferred when we had a woodstove & I could do some rudimentary cooking on top). Some years those potatoes are then mashed, sometimes we just eat them as is.

When the food is all cooked we, of course, feast.

After the feast, we exchange gifts. I still think the year we all got legos was the best, but there's always a "family gift" that is also an activity of some sort that we can do together.... which we then proceed to do.

Once the feast has been digested, we heat up milk in a kettle, for hot cocoa, & cook popcorn (both at the fireplace) and snuggle down in the livingroom with new books (everyone gets at least one) until bedtime.

The next morning, at sunrise, the kids run around the house, turning on all the lights, and yelling/singing to welcome back the sun & we have Solstice cake for breakfast.

On the 24th, we go out to dinner with my mom (missed last year, of course, & this year will be at her house) and exchange gifts with her.

I'm one of those socially anxious people who hem & haw & type & delete &... well... I've finally gotten better at leaving comments on fic I read, even older fics, but I'd definitely feel weird leaving replies on old comments... and then I'd feel bad replying to new comments but not old ones... so... no? *cringes*

If I ever post another story, I'll try to be better about it. 💖

What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

Of the two posted, Sam's Thoughts is unrequited so...

Of all of 'em, Book 2 of the CoX series, Decisions... Ain't nobody happy in that one yet; broken hearts, unrequited romances, & UST every where you look.

Of the two posted, The Darkest Hour is the only other option so... *snickers* It also ends on a hopeful note.

Of all of 'em, Book 6: Post-Script is the HEA epilogue.

Written notes for? Yes. Outlined? Sorta. Actually written? No.

If I have, my brain has helpfully forgotten it.

Nope. Not that I wouldn't try, but I've other challenges.

The CoX series... not a single "Book" is complete, despite having to be broken into six "Books" for processing ability.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

Depends on the language. Fictional ones, provided there’s a halfway decent and/or reputable source for translation, are fine. Real languages? I’m more leery if I don’t speak them for the simple fact that I would hate to get it wrong. Real people speak real languages, they aren’t a plot device.

What was the first fandom you wrote for?

🤔... 🤔... I honestly don't remember. I'm pretty sure I wrote stories for My Little Pony (original) & Thundercats as a kid... could have been my strangest crossover. 🤔

What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

There was a chapter of Book 3: Exploring that my friend, Emily, & I co-wrote via email called A friend is a shelter from the storm. It felt like magic... and I still love it.

I have driven through Salt Lake City & Milwaukee, though I don’t believe I’ve actually stopped in them. Never set eyes on Madison.

I’ve lived up & down the west coast mostly; though I spent a bit of time in Florida & the Carolinas, and was stationed briefly in Illinois & Hawaii. My most embarrassing ex was from the greater Pittsburgh area... probably explains that black hole... purged.

What are you currently watching: I had a bunch of Curiosity Stream documentaries on in the background over the weekend. The jaguar one reused a LOT of footage (even the cowboy/cattle stuff).

What are you currently reading: The same thing I read every week, Pinky... lots & lots of fanfic (mostly Solasmancing). Finished my semi-annual reread of Meet the Family (no longer online modern au) & a certain cute comic made me (twist my arm, ow... quit it... 🤭) start in on Thick as Thieves by @blarfkey again.

What are you currently craving: actual, restful, sleep... and coworkers that once again understood the value of paperwork (take only the file you need & put it back when you're done)... I used to have a division manager that understood & enforced compliance... it was lovely.

Okay... more seriously. The Urban Dictionary defines a "Comfort Character" as:

A comfort character is when a character, which can be from a TV show, game, book etc makes you feel safe and happy when upset, sad, down etc.

... in which case, I needed to dig a little deeper. 🤔

1. Tigger. From a very young age, Tigger has been my 'go to' when I need a cheer up. He was also my first tattoo. 😁

2. Nine. Eccleston was Fantastic!... and robbed. He's second only to Pertwee (Three) in my personal Doctor rankings & never fails to make me smile.

3. Benjamin Franklin "Hawkeye" Pierce. Hawkeye, my sarcastic, alcoholic, maudlin, cynical, yet somehow hopeful, beloved.

With an honorary mention to my own OC, Tatyana Olien Korsakova (née Stepanova). She is, emotionally, one of the strongest people I can imagine. When life kicks her, she buckles down and bears it.

Face claim Olesya Sudzilovskaya. Yevgeny’s face is Arnold Vosloo here, but le spouse switches it up sometimes.  😊

Went to work. Office thermostat at 84 F at 07:45. (Broken A/C, steel building, doors on one side, no windows... though it does have a white roof)

Boss still up at parent location for weekly meeting. Shop helper called in for "household issues."

We are now closed for the health & safety of our employees.

Informed parent location; did not ask. Went home. F that.

If I'd been AMAB, my parents would have named me Keith Thomas. My male parental unit really wanted a Katie and would have settled for K.T., apparently. *shudders*

When I changed my name, my first choice was Eleanor Éabha; Eleanor Roosevelt being one of my favorites and my initials would have been E.É.K. 😉 but when my spouse helped me try it on, it didn't track... Tatyana did, so my initials are T.S.K. instead. 😁
