Continuing my review and summarization of Project 2025, Chapter 19 covers the Dept of Transportation.

1. Use private financing to construct infrastructure. In exchange for providing the financing, the private partner retains the right to operate the asset 

2. Remove regulatory barriers by focusing on updating vehicle standards 

3. One reason for the high numbers of injuries on American roadways is that national fuel economy standards raise the price of cars, disincentivizing people from purchasing newer, safer vehicles. NB: The primary causes of auto accidents are distracted driving, driving under the influence (40% of fatalities and costing $51 billion/year), and speeding which are likely to continue to occur even with new cars.

4. Remove Biden’s fuel economy requirements while blaming him for “hundreds of additional fatalities and thousands of additional injuries on U.S. highways” because people are driving old cars.

5. Get rid of DEI practices 

6. Continue the four US airlines near monopoly on flight, stating it will reduce the price of air travel. NB: anyone who’s traveled recently knows all too well the high ticket prices and surcharges on baggage, and poor—if any—meals available in flight.

6. Decrease the flight hours required for copilots to be certified

7. Get rid of the Essential Air Service program that subsidized slights to 200 small airports that are not commercially viable. 

8. Replace conventional control towers with high-resolution digital remote cameras

9. Unite the Coast Guard and the Merchant Marine in one department

There were over 500 near-misses by major commercial airlines last year. Every one of these misses could’ve been the next airline crash disaster killing hundreds of passengers. One of the problems is that air traffic controllers are working 10 hour shifts, 6 days a week, with mandatory overtime. And the problem is getting worse as the airline industry loses more air traffic controllers each year than it’s training to replace them. Congress can take a huge step forward in restoring public safety for travelers, workers, and the public at large by reauthorizing the Federal Aviation Administration now. The good news is that in August of last year, the House passed the Securing Growth and Robust Leadership in American Aviation Act -- the bipartisan legislation to restore and improve important aviation safety and infrastructure programs. Since then the Senate has passed a budget for training 3,000 more air traffic controllers over the next 5 years, but that’s not good enough. It doesn’t address the working conditions and other safety issues, and that means it won’t go far enough to improve safety and make it safer to fly. I’m writing to urge you to please co-sponsor and pass the Securing Growth and Robust Leadership in American Aviation Act to reauthorize the Federal Aviation Administration with maximum staffing for air traffic controllers now.

During a flight over Canada, heading west, a series of lights appeared intermittently in the sky. They formed what seemed to be a triangular formation, sometimes appearing equilateral, other times isosceles. At one point, multiple lights briefly formed a symmetrical kite-like shape before reverting to the larger triangle. Observed between 30,000 to 36,000 feet, the lights varied in brightness, sometimes shining brightly and other times dimming. Despite the aircraft’s movement towards them, the lights remained stationary on the distant horizon, never approaching closer. This occurred before midnight. Here is the original statement posted on Reddit by user u/Dekushrubs ”I saw these lights randomly appearing and disappearing for most of the flight. We were over Canada flying west. There appeared to be a triangle formation that sometimes looked to be equilateral and other times isosceles. There was a moment where multiple lights seemed to form a symmetrical kite looking shape for a few seconds then faded into a larger triangle. We were up between 30000 to 36000 feet when we saw them. The lights would be very bright sometimes and then very dim at other times. They were not close to us, they seemed to be quite far away in the distant horizon and never seemed to get closer as we flew towards them.
