Tumblr media
Understanding Your Airport Transportation Options
Salt Lake City offers a range of transportation options to suit different preferences, budgets, and travel needs. Here’s an overview of the most popular choices:
1. Airport Shuttles
Airport shuttles are a widely used option for travelers seeking a cost-effective and convenient way to reach their destination. Shuttle services typically operate on a fixed schedule, picking up passengers from the airport and dropping them off at various locations, such as hotels, business districts, or other key areas in Salt Lake City. Shuttles can be shared with other travelers, which helps keep costs down. This option is ideal for those who want a balance of affordability and convenience.
2. Ride-Sharing Services
Ride-sharing services like Uber and Lyft have become increasingly popular for airport transportation. These services allow you to request a ride using a mobile app, providing you with real-time information about your driver and vehicle. Ride-sharing offers a range of vehicle options, from standard rides to more luxurious choices. The flexibility, convenience, and ease of payment make ride-sharing an attractive option for many travelers. However, surge pricing during peak times can affect the cost.
3. Taxis
Taxis are another common choice for airport transportation. You can find taxis readily available at designated pick-up areas outside the terminal. Taxis offer the advantage of direct, private transportation to your destination. While taxis provide a straightforward and reliable option, they can sometimes be more expensive than other choices, especially during high-demand periods. It's important to confirm the fare estimate before starting your trip.
4. Rental Cars
For travelers who prefer the freedom to explore Salt Lake City and its surroundings at their own pace, renting a car is a great option. Salt Lake City International Airport has several rental car agencies located on-site, making it easy to pick up and drop off your vehicle. Renting a car provides flexibility and independence but requires you to navigate local traffic and parking. It’s important to book your rental car in advance to secure the best rates and availability.
5. Public Transit
Salt Lake City’s public transit system, including buses and the TRAX light rail, offers an affordable way to get around. The TRAX light rail connects the airport to various parts of the city, including downtown and residential neighborhoods. Public transit is a budget-friendly option but may involve transfers and longer travel times compared to other transportation methods. It’s a good choice for travelers who are comfortable navigating public transit systems.
6. Private Car Services
For those seeking a more luxurious and personalized transportation experience, private car services offer a high level of comfort and convenience. Private car services can be pre-booked and provide amenities such as spacious seating, climate control, and professional drivers. This option is ideal for business travelers or anyone who wants to enjoy a more upscale travel experience.
Factors to Consider When Choosing Airport Transportation
Selecting the right airport transportation involves evaluating several key factors to ensure that it aligns with your specific needs and preferences. Here are some important considerations:
1. Purpose of Travel
Understanding the purpose of your trip can help determine the most suitable transportation option. For business travel, you may prioritize convenience and comfort, making private car services or ride-sharing ideal. For leisure travel, you might focus on affordability and flexibility, making shuttles or public transit more appropriate.
2. Group Size
The size of your travel group plays a significant role in choosing the right transportation. For solo travelers or couples, ride-sharing services and taxis may suffice. For larger groups, consider options like airport shuttles, charter buses, or multiple rental cars to accommodate everyone comfortably.
3. Budget
Your budget will influence your choice of transportation. Compare the costs of different options, including shuttles, ride-sharing, taxis, and rental cars. While some options may be more economical, others may offer additional comfort or convenience. Select the option that best fits your budget without compromising on quality.
4. Comfort and Amenities
Consider the level of comfort and amenities provided by each transportation option. For longer trips or special occasions, you may prefer services that offer additional comforts such as spacious seating, climate control, or refreshments. Evaluate what is included in each option and choose based on your preferences.
5. Reliability and Safety
Reliability and safety are crucial when selecting airport transportation. Look for services with positive reviews and a good track record of punctuality and safety. Ensure that the service provider adheres to safety regulations and maintains well-kept vehicles.
6. Convenience
Convenience factors include ease of booking, availability, and proximity to your location. Some services offer online reservations, real-time tracking, and flexible scheduling, which can add to your convenience. Choose the option that provides the best balance of ease and accessibility.
Tips for a Smooth Airport Transportation Experience
To ensure a smooth and hassle-free airport transportation experience, follow these tips:
1. Plan Ahead
Advance planning is essential for a stress-free journey. Research your transportation options, make reservations or bookings as needed, and familiarize yourself with schedules and routes. Planning ahead helps you avoid last-minute complications and ensures a more organized travel experience.
2. Verify Schedules and Availability
Check the schedules and availability of your chosen transportation service, especially if you’re using shuttles or public transit. Services may have limited hours or run less frequently during off-peak times. Being aware of the schedule helps you avoid delays and ensures that you’re prepared for any potential changes.
3. Communicate Special Needs
If you have any special needs or requirements, such as accessibility services or extra luggage, communicate these in advance with your transportation provider. Most services can accommodate special requests, but advance notice ensures that appropriate arrangements are made.
4. Keep Important Information Handy
Keep essential information such as your flight details, booking confirmations, and contact numbers for your transportation provider readily accessible. Having this information on hand helps you stay organized and quickly address any issues that may arise.
5. Allow Extra Time
Allow extra time for potential delays, such as traffic or security checks. Arriving at the airport with sufficient time helps reduce stress and ensures that you’re not rushed. It’s better to have a little extra time than to risk missing your flight.
6. Use Mobile Apps and Tools
Utilize mobile apps and tools to streamline your transportation experience. Apps for ride-sharing services provide real-time updates on your driver’s location and estimated arrival time. Public transit apps can help you navigate schedules and routes. GPS navigation can assist you in finding the quickest route to your destination.
Conclusion
Navigating airport transportation in Salt Lake City can be a straightforward and enjoyable experience with the right planning and information. By understanding the various transportation options available and considering factors such as purpose of travel, group size, budget, comfort, reliability, and convenience, you can make an informed decision that enhances your overall travel experience.
Whether you choose an airport shuttle, ride-sharing service, taxi, rental car, public transit, or private car service, each option offers its own set of benefits to suit different needs and preferences. Plan ahead, check schedules, communicate special needs, and keep important information handy to ensure a smooth and stress-free journey.
With the right transportation strategy, you can focus on enjoying your time in Salt Lake City and making the most of your trip, whether for business or leisure.

At the salt lake city airport, they put a decal of the transgender symbol in the corner of the accessible/family bathrooms. Not even consistently. Sometimes it was the top left, and sometimes it was the bottom right. And that is just what I saw. If you are going to prevent us from using the bathrooms that align with our gender, at least use consistent signage please.

For travelers arriving or departing from Salt Lake City International Airport, the right transportation choice can make a world of difference in terms of convenience, comfort, and efficiency. This comprehensive guide will explore the best transportation services available in Salt Lake City, Utah, offering insights into various options, their benefits, and tips for making the most of your travel.
Tumblr media
Overview of Transportation Options
Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) serves as a major gateway for travelers to and from the region. The airport is well-equipped with a range of transportation options designed to cater to different needs and preferences. Whether you are seeking a quick transfer, a luxurious ride, or an economical solution, Salt Lake City offers several choices to suit your requirements.
Airport Shuttles
Airport shuttles provide a convenient and cost-effective way to travel to and from Salt Lake City International Airport. They are particularly popular for their affordability and ease of use.
Shared Shuttle Services: Shared shuttles are an excellent option for budget-conscious travelers. These services involve sharing the ride with other passengers, which helps reduce the cost. Shared shuttles operate on a fixed schedule and may require reservations in advance. They typically offer pickups and drop-offs at multiple locations, including hotels and residential areas.
Private Shuttle Services: For those seeking a more personalized experience, private shuttles offer exclusive transportation. This option is ideal for individuals or groups who prefer direct service with no stops along the way. Private shuttles provide greater flexibility in terms of scheduling and pickup/drop-off locations.
Ride-Sharing Services
Ride-sharing services have become a popular choice for airport transportation due to their convenience and ease of use.
Major Ride-Sharing Apps: Services like Uber and Lyft are widely available in Salt Lake City. These apps allow travelers to book a ride quickly from their smartphones, with real-time tracking and various vehicle options to choose from. Ride-sharing services offer different tiers, including standard, premium, and larger vehicles for groups.
Pricing and Surge Factors: The cost of ride-sharing services can fluctuate based on factors such as demand, time of day, and distance. During peak travel times or high-demand periods, surge pricing may apply. It’s advisable to check the app for estimated fares and be aware of potential additional charges.
Taxi Services
Taxis are a traditional and reliable option for airport transportation.
Airport Taxi Stands: Taxis are readily available at designated stands at Salt Lake City International Airport. They provide a straightforward way to get to your destination, with fares typically determined by a meter. Taxi drivers are familiar with local routes and traffic conditions, ensuring a timely arrival.
Booking and Payment: Taxis can be hailed directly at the airport or booked in advance through various services. Payment methods usually include both cash and credit card options. Be sure to confirm payment preferences with the driver before starting your journey.
Car Rentals
Renting a car offers flexibility and independence, making it a popular choice for travelers who wish to explore Salt Lake City and its surroundings.
Rental Car Agencies: Salt Lake City International Airport hosts several car rental agencies, providing a range of vehicle options to suit different needs. From compact cars to SUVs, you can select a vehicle based on your preferences and requirements.
Advance Booking: To secure the best rates and ensure vehicle availability, it’s recommended to book your rental car in advance. Most agencies offer online reservations, and booking early can help you avoid higher prices and last-minute shortages.
Public Transportation
Public transportation offers an economical way to travel to and from the airport.
TRAX Light Rail: The TRAX light rail system connects Salt Lake City International Airport with downtown Salt Lake City and other key areas. The airport TRAX station is conveniently located near the terminal, providing a cost-effective and efficient mode of transport.
Bus Services: Several bus routes serve Salt Lake City International Airport, connecting it with various parts of the city and surrounding regions. Public buses are a budget-friendly option but may involve transfers and longer travel times compared to other transportation methods.
Choosing the Right Transportation Service
Selecting the best transportation service depends on several factors, including your budget, schedule, and preferences. Here are some considerations to help you make an informed choice:
Convenience
Direct vs. Shared Services: If convenience is a priority, consider options that provide direct, non-stop service, such as private shuttles or ride-sharing services. Shared shuttles and public transportation may involve multiple stops or transfers, which can extend travel time.
Pickup and Drop-Off Locations: Ensure that the transportation service you choose offers convenient pickup and drop-off locations. For instance, door-to-door services can save time and hassle compared to options requiring travel to designated terminals or stations.
Cost
Budget-Friendly Options: For those looking to save money, shared shuttles and public transportation are cost-effective choices. These options provide basic transportation at a lower price, though they may lack the convenience of direct or private services.
Premium Choices: If you prefer a more comfortable or luxurious experience, consider ride-sharing services or private shuttles. These options typically come at a higher cost but offer enhanced comfort, privacy, and flexibility.
Travel Time
Efficiency: Evaluate the travel time associated with each transportation option. Direct services, such as private shuttles and ride-sharing, usually offer faster transit compared to options involving multiple stops or transfers.
Peak Hours: Be mindful of peak travel times and potential delays. During busy periods, such as rush hours or holiday seasons, traffic congestion and higher demand can affect travel times. Plan accordingly to avoid unnecessary delays.
Tips for a Smooth Transportation Experience
Ensuring a smooth airport transportation experience involves planning and preparation. Consider these tips to make your journey as hassle-free as possible:
Plan Ahead
Research and Compare: Research the various transportation options available and compare their features, costs, and reviews. This will help you select the service that best meets your needs and preferences.
Book in Advance: For services that require reservations, such as shuttles or rental cars, book in advance to secure your spot and avoid last-minute stress. Early booking often results in better rates and availability.
Arrive Prepared
Know Your Terminal: Familiarize yourself with the layout of Salt Lake City International Airport and the location of transportation services. This will help you navigate the airport more efficiently and locate your chosen transportation option with ease.
Have Documentation Ready: Keep your travel documents, identification, and reservation confirmations readily accessible. This will streamline the check-in process for rental cars, shuttles, and ride-sharing services.
Stay Informed
Monitor Flight Status: Stay updated on your flight status for any delays or changes. This will allow you to adjust your transportation plans as needed and minimize waiting time at the airport.
Check Traffic Conditions: If using ride-sharing services or taxis, check traffic conditions before departure. This can help you anticipate potential delays and plan your journey accordingly.
Be Flexible
Allow Extra Time: Arrive at the airport or your transportation pickup location with ample time to spare. Allowing extra time ensures that you can handle any unexpected issues or delays without feeling rushed.
Prepare for Variability: Be prepared for potential variability in transportation times due to factors such as weather, traffic, or high demand. Flexibility and patience will help you manage any disruptions more effectively.
Special Considerations for Different Travelers
Different travelers may have specific needs or preferences when it comes to salt lake city utah airport transportation. Here are some additional considerations:
Business Travelers
Professional Service: Business travelers may prefer premium transportation options, such as private shuttles or ride-sharing services, to ensure a comfortable and efficient experience.
Efficiency and Reliability: For those with tight schedules, reliable and efficient transportation is essential. Opt for services that offer timely pickups and direct routes to minimize travel time.
Families and Groups
Space and Comfort: Families and groups may require transportation options with ample space and comfort, such as larger vehicles or private shuttles. Ensure that the chosen option can accommodate everyone and their luggage.
Group Booking: When traveling with a group, consider booking transportation in advance to secure a vehicle that meets your needs. Some services may offer group rates or special arrangements.
International Travelers
Language and Currency: International travelers may benefit from transportation services that offer multilingual support and flexible payment options. Ensure that you understand the payment methods accepted and any additional requirements.

I've been trying to get my family to do a day of just exploring the city with me, and I know easy public transport might be a factor in convincing them
The RTD offers regional trains to the airport and Aurora and light rail in the downtown, additionally there is amtrak to The Bay Area, Reno, Salt Lake and Chicago, I think there is also some sort of train to a ski resort but I don't know which one

What's Coming is Pretty Unbelieveable
Dec. 16, 2023
Seeing a lot of trails lately? You're not alone. The mass exodus is underway. Look at the trails and see the twisting, breaking, and curving. The grids are more pronounced than we've seen in about a decade, since we started saturating the west with orgonite. They are desperately making the great escape before the OR shift.
The gifting of Denver, Albuquerque, and Tucson just two months ago, preceding the rainy season in the west, looks like its about to give us the reward. What's coming is so over the top that even the mainstream media can't pretend it's not going to happen, but you won't get the real reason from them.
The door has been opened once again for a proper jet stream from west to east across the continent by the neutralization of DOR sources (cell towers) throughout the country. With last year's gifting of Salt Lake City bringing about record snowfall in California, Utah and other places in the west, and now the Denver expedition finally under our belt, we are about to see something crazy.
They call it climate change. So do I, but I also call it geo-restoration. The climate is indeed changing, but how could this be a bad thing when it's actually correcting? The people at the top of the weather media know about our work, but I doubt the low level meteorologists do. It's just as confounding to them today as it was when Wilhelm Reich first began ORizing the atmosphere, with the same results in the weather and repelling of the inter-dimensional parasites.
This transmutation was the most drawn out and extreme we've seen. Many people are already becoming discouraged about the trails in the sky, not understanding what they're seeing. I am not discouraged, although I had to observe it for the last few weeks to really understand what was going on. The same conditions are happening throughout the US and it's because of the huge energy shift underway after distributing a record 700 towerbusters into the environment in one gifting expedition.
I admit it's been boring for me watching the sky lately. I don't care about "chemtrails" and the craft flying through don't bother me. I see it for what it is, inter-dimensional transport beyond human understanding, which leaves a visible cue to how well the travel is going.
Based on today's performance and what I've seen over the past weeks, it's not going well for them. They are getting in whatever last "flights" they can before all you'll see in the news is "flight cancellations." Yes, we travel on these things as well and they are not planes as we know them. The show begins when you enter the holodeck, or "airport." But that's a discussion for another day. For now, please enjoy the massive failures in their navigation pictured above and check out your own sky for the same.
The near future looks like this. This is not good for them.

In this comprehensive guide, we'll explore the best options for Salt Lake City airport transportation, highlighting the benefits, features, and considerations for each mode of transport. Whether you're a business traveler, a family on vacation, or a solo adventurer, this article will provide you with the information you need to make an informed decision and enjoy a hassle-free airport transfer experience.
Tumblr media
Taxi and Rideshare Services
One of the most convenient and widely-used options for Salt Lake City airport transportation is taking a taxi or utilizing a rideshare service like Uber or Lyft. These services offer door-to-door transportation, allowing you to quickly and easily get from the airport to your final destination.
Taxis in Salt Lake City are readily available at the airport, with designated taxi stands and pickup areas located just outside the terminals. Rideshare services like Uber and Lyft also have a strong presence at the airport, with designated pickup and drop-off zones for their drivers.
The advantages of using taxi or rideshare services include:
Immediate availability: You can typically hail a taxi or request a rideshare as soon as you arrive at the airport.
Personalized service: Enjoy a private ride tailored to your specific needs and preferences.
Ease of use: Simply request your ride through a mobile app or by flagging down a taxi.
However, it's important to note that taxi and rideshare fares can vary depending on the time of day, traffic conditions, and distance traveled. Be sure to research and compare rates before making your decision.
Shuttle Services
Another popular option for Salt Lake City airport transportation is the use of shuttle services. These shared-ride services transport passengers from the airport to various locations, making it a cost-effective solution for those traveling to nearby hotels, conference centers, or other popular destinations.
Shuttle services in Salt Lake City often have designated pickup and drop-off areas at the airport, making it easy to locate and board the shuttle. Many shuttle providers also offer online booking and reservation systems, allowing you to pre-arrange your transportation and ensure a hassle-free experience.
The advantages of using a shuttle service include:
Cost-effectiveness: Shared-ride shuttles typically offer more affordable fares compared to private transportation.
Convenience: Shuttle services have set routes and schedules, making it easy to plan your travel.
Luggage assistance: Shuttle drivers are often available to help with loading and unloading your luggage.
However, it's important to note that shuttle services may have longer travel times as they make multiple stops to accommodate other passengers. Additionally, the availability and schedules of shuttle services may vary, so it's important to research and book in advance.
Private Car Service
For those seeking a more luxurious and personalized airport transportation experience, private car services, such as limousines or town cars, are an excellent option in Salt Lake City. These services provide a private, chauffeured ride from the airport to your desired location, ensuring a comfortable and stress-free journey.
Private car services often offer a range of vehicle options, from sleek sedans to spacious SUVs or limousines, to cater to your specific needs and preferences. Additionally, many providers offer amenities such as complimentary refreshments, Wi-Fi, and even entertainment systems to enhance your travel experience.
The advantages of using a private car service include:
Personalized attention: Enjoy a one-on-one experience with a professional driver who can cater to your specific needs.
Increased comfort and luxury: Travel in style and comfort with premium vehicles and amenities.
Time-saving: Bypass the hassle of public transportation or shared rides, and arrive at your destination efficiently.
While private car services may come with a higher price tag, the level of comfort, convenience, and personalized attention they provide can make them a worthwhile investment for those seeking a premium airport transportation experience.
Public Transportation
For those looking for a more budget-friendly option, Salt Lake City's public transportation system can be a viable choice for airport transportation. The city's light rail system, known as TRAX, operates a dedicated line that connects the airport to various destinations throughout the city.
The TRAX light rail system offers a reliable and cost-effective way to reach your final destination from the airport. Tickets can be purchased at the airport station or through mobile apps, and the journey typically takes around 20-30 minutes, depending on your final stop.
The advantages of using public transportation for Salt Lake City airport transfers include:
Affordability: TRAX fares are significantly lower than private transportation options.
Accessibility: The light rail system has multiple stations throughout the city, making it easy to reach your final destination.
Sustainability: Opting for public transportation reduces your carbon footprint and supports the city's environmental initiatives.
However, it's important to note that public transportation may not be the most convenient option, especially if you have heavy luggage or are traveling with a group. Additionally, the travel time may be longer compared to private transportation options.
Conclusion
Salt Lake City's diverse range of airport transportation options ensures that travelers can choose the mode that best suits their needs, preferences, and budget. From the convenience of taxi and rideshare services to the luxury of private car transfers, and the cost-effectiveness of shuttle services and public transportation, the city offers a solution for every traveler.
Regardless of your choice, the key to a hassle-free Salt Lake City airport transfer experience is to research your options, compare prices and services, and make a decision that aligns with your travel requirements. By planning ahead and utilizing the transportation services available, you can focus on the exciting aspects of your journey and arrive at your destination with ease and confidence.

Closest Airport To Grand Canyon
The Grand Canyon is one of the most iconic and spectacular natural wonders in the world, attracting millions of visitors each year. Located in Arizona, this vast and awe-inspiring canyon stretches for 277 miles and reaches depths of over a mile. It is a must-visit destination for anyone looking to experience the grandeur of nature and witness the stunning geological formations that have been shaped over millions of years.
For those planning a trip to the Closest Airport To Grand Canyon, one of the first things to consider is the closest airport to this magnificent landmark. The main airport serving the Grand Canyon is the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, located approximately 231 miles away. This bustling airport is the largest and busiest in Arizona, with flights arriving and departing from all major domestic and international destinations.
From Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, visitors can choose to rent a car or book a shuttle service to reach the Grand Canyon. The drive takes around 3.5 to 4 hours, depending on traffic and weather conditions. The route is relatively straightforward, taking travelers through scenic landscapes and small towns, making for a pleasant and enjoyable journey. For those who prefer not to drive, there are numerous shuttle services available, offering affordable and convenient transportation to the Grand Canyon.
Another option for those flying into Phoenix is to take a connecting flight to Flagstaff Pulliam Airport, located approximately 81 miles from the Grand Canyon's South Rim. This airport offers daily flights from Phoenix and serves as a convenient option for those looking to get closer to the Grand Canyon without a long drive. From Flagstaff, travelers can rent a car, take a shuttle, or even hop on the Grand Canyon Railway, which takes passengers directly to the Grand Canyon Village.
For those looking to explore the less-visited but equally stunning North Rim of the Grand Canyon, the closest airport would be St. George Regional Airport in Utah. This airport is approximately 175 miles away from the North Rim, and flights are available from Salt Lake City, Denver, and Los Angeles. From St. George, visitors can rent a car or book a shuttle to reach the North Rim, which offers a more secluded and peaceful experience compared to the bustling South Rim.

2024 Sundance Film Festival Buzz
Tumblr media
We made it! We are finally at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.
We are about four days into the festival which runs from January 18th to the 28th. Even though it is early in the festival, there is already a lot of buzz. In case you don’t know what I mean by that, buzz refers to what everyone is talking about, what they are all excited about, and what they are all thinking about! This could be about the films, the different events, the celebrities, etc.
No matter where you go you hear buzz. People are talking buzz on buses, in ticket lines, at restaurants, coffee shops, and basically anywhere you can think of.
Many films are getting a good amount of buzz with some even getting picked up by major studios and streaming services.
On January 19th Variety posted that one of the first festival sales had occurred. This was the Netflix purchase of the documentary, Ibelin. This film is about a Norwegian gamer, Mats Steen, who at 25 years old died of a degenerative muscle disease. His parents, sad because they felt their son did not have many friends due to his illness, learned through condolences from Mats’ fellow gamers that he had friends from all around the world.
Channel 4 News San Antonio also announced that Hit Man was bought by Netflix as well. The rom-com film, directed by native Texan Richard Linklater, was inspired by a true story about a man that goes undercover as a hit man. Things soon become complicated as a potential client is a woman in distress.
I have also heard some buzz about Freaky Tales by multiple people on buses and in lines, etc. Basically, they are saying that the film is not living up to all the hype that it was given. After initially reading about this film, I really wanted to see it but couldn’t seem to procure a ticket for it. However, when I went in person to waitlist for the film, I was lucky enough to be gifted a ticket for it. After seeing it, although I did enjoy it, I unfortunately tend to agree with this buzz that the hype surrounding Freaky Tales seems to have been unjustified.
I also heard a lot of buzz about DiDi, Presence, and Krazy House.
For DiDi they stated it is a great film and a must watch at Sundance this year. I am hoping I still have a shot at getting a ticket for it.
For Presence, the buzz is that it is also a great film, but it is so scary that it is causing some people to have to walk out of the theater. I have not seen this one yet and I am not sure if I am up to being scared like that.
I have seen Krazy House, and I do agree that it is a great film. It is so funny and there is never a dull moment even during the violent killings. They land perfect jokes that make everyone laugh.
Before the premiere of the Greatest Night in Pop at the Eccles, everyone was very excited to see the film. There was a lot of good buzz leading up to it and it did not disappoint. Afterwards there was a Q&A session that included the director, Bao Nguyen, producer, Julia Nottingham, as well as Lionel Ritchie. It was cool. One of the questions asked was how Dan Aykroyd qualified to be in the group. You just have to remember he was one of the Blues Brothers.
In addition to hearing buzz, I have also seen buzz posted online. One item that I found interesting involves the discreet transportation arrangements for celebrities. I saw this on ABC4 Salt Lake City. In this report it explains how some celebrities try to maintain their privacy when arriving at the Sundance Film Festival. They do this by flying into Heber Valley airport which only accepts small private planes. By flying into Heber Valley, celebrities can avoid the paparazzi. It is worth noting that the number of arrivals increases during Sundance from ten to fifty a day. Tight airport security helps keep VIP arrivals under wraps. One can only imagine who is on these flights. As much as I would love to get a glimpse of them now and again, I can understand they want to maintain some privacy. As Wendy Swann who is one of the transportation providers stated in the article, “They’re normal, everyday people that have a job to do, like everyone else.”
That’s all the buzz I have! Until next time!

America Stares Down a Trump-Biden Repeat in Disbelief and Denial (NYT) President Biden is cruising to the Democratic nomination. Former President Donald J. Trump could begin to wrap up his party’s nod within days. America’s response: This can’t be real. Even as both men stroll toward likely summer coronations and a fall rematch, an undercurrent of disbelief is coursing through the country. Many Republicans view Mr. Biden as so politically and physically weak that they think his party will replace him. Many Democrats can’t fathom that Mr. Trump could win another nomination while he is facing 91 felony counts and four criminal trials. This incredulity—ranging from casual doubtfulness to conspiratorial denial—has lurked beneath a year of polling showing a deeply gloomy public mood, and has emerged in dozens of interviews over the past two weeks as well as recent declarations from candidates and political commentators. “People in both parties really dislike the likely nominee of the other,” said Charles Franklin, the director of the Marquette Law School Poll. He said he had heard enough people suggesting that Mr. Trump and Mr. Biden would be displaced that he included a question about it on polls he is conducting this month. “Voters who think, ‘Goodness please, let’s not have a rerun of 2020,’ will realize that we are tuning in to another episode,” Mr. Franklin said. “Same characters, similar plotline. Get used to it.”
A thaw is coming (AP) Two weeks of storms that have turned roads into icy death traps, frozen people to death from Oregon to Tennessee and caused power outages that could take weeks to fix continued to sock both coasts with another round of weather chaos on Friday. The rain, snow, wind and bitterly cold temperatures have been blamed for at least 55 deaths in the U.S. over the past two weeks as a series of storms moved across the country. Schools and roads have closed, and air traffic has been snarled. There is hope. The forecast for next week calls for above average temperatures across almost the whole country, according to the National Weather Service.
America’s southern border has become a global crossroads (Economist) Last year seems to have set records for the number of migrants apprehended at the southern border, and the diversity of the immigrants reflects a big change in who is crossing over. In fiscal year 2023, for the first time, migrants from places beyond Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras made up more than half of all those apprehended at the border. Venezuelans are the largest part of this group. But last year 43,000 Russians, 42,000 Indians and 24,000 Chinese also made the crossing—up from 4,100, 2,600 and 450, respectively, in 2021. America’s northern border has proved porous, too. In total some 40,000 Indian and Chinese migrants came south from Canada last year.
Will Passports Be Replaced by Biometrics? (NYT) In the year ahead, the use of biometrics—an individual’s unique physical identifiers, such as fingerprints and faces—will be expanded at airports in the United States and abroad, a shift to enhance security, replace physical identification such as passports and driver’s licenses, and reduce the amount of time required by travelers to pass through airports. Biometric technology will be seen everywhere from bag drops at the check-in counters to domestic security screening. In the United States, the Transportation Security Administration is expanding its program allowing passengers to opt in for a security screening relying on a facial recognition match with their physical identification—a photo taken in real time is compared against a scan of a license or passport and assists the T.S.A. officer in verifying a traveler’s identity. This program is currently available at 30 airports nationwide, including Salt Lake City International Airport and Denver International Airport; the T.S.A. said it will expand to more than 400 airports in the coming years. Internationally, Singapore’s Changi Airport plans to adopt facial recognition technology for departing passengers, no longer requiring them to show their passports.
Grim realization sets in over state of Ukraine war as funding fight continues in Washington (CNN) As President Joe Biden continues to urge top lawmakers to approve his $60 billion aid request for Ukraine, a grim realization has settled in for the administration that this is likely the last chance for any new US military funding to flow to the war-torn country before the 2024 presidential election. Lawmakers have conveyed as much directly to the White House, a US official told CNN. Biden met with House and Senate lawmakers at the White House on Wednesday to outline what is at stake for Ukraine. But House Speaker Mike Johnson, who along with other House Republicans has tied additional Ukraine funding to a broader immigration deal, said afterward that continuing to fund Ukraine risked turning it into a quagmire for the US akin to its two-decade war in Afghanistan. “We cannot spend billions of dollars without a clear strategy articulated and I told the president in the meeting today again, as I’ve been saying repeatedly, ‘Sir, you have to articulate what the strategy is. What is the endgame?’” Johnson said.
Army called in to rescue about 600 Spanish motorists stuck in snow (Reuters) Army units were mobilised to help about 600 drivers who were stuck on a motorway in heavy snow as Storm Juan blanketed many parts of Spain, authorities said on Friday. Snowfalls left motorists stranded for hours on the N-122 road between Soria and Agreda in northern Spain so authorites said they had dispatched troops from a base in Zaragoza to help move the drivers. Miguel Ángel Clavero, of the civil protection force, said on Friday that in Aragon in eastern Spain a number of roads were left unpassable by the snowfall and Zaragoza airport was closed.
The Quiet Transformation of Occupied Ukraine (Foreign Affairs) While the West continues to squabble over providing further aid to Ukraine, Russia has been quietly consolidating its control over the territories it occupies in southeastern Ukraine. As the frontline stabilized in 2023, Russia remained in control of almost 18 percent of Ukrainian territory, including about 25,000 square miles of land seized since February 2022. All branches of the Russian government are involved in a costly and ambitious program to integrate these newly occupied territories into the Russian Federation—as Russia did with Crimea after it seized the peninsula in 2014. The Kremlin hopes to create facts on the ground that will be difficult for Ukraine to challenge, either by military force or in future peace talks. Russia ceremonially annexed four Ukrainian oblasts in September 2022, although its military is not in full control of any of these provinces. Since then, Russian officials have transformed the governance of the areas under its control, holding sham elections last September and appointing pro-Moscow officials at every level. An army of technocrats is overseeing the complete absorption of these territories, aligning their laws, regulations, and tax and banking systems with Russia, and getting rid of any traces of institutional ties to Ukraine.
Rifts emerge among top Israeli officials over how to handle the war against Hamas in Gaza (AP) A member of Israel’s War Cabinet cast doubt on the country’s strategy for releasing hostages held by Hamas, saying only a cease-fire can free them, as the prime minister rejected the United States’ calls to scale back its offensive. The comments by Gadi Eisenkot, a former army chief, marked the latest sign of disagreement among top Israeli officials over the direction of the war against Hamas, now in its fourth month. In his first public statements on the course of the war, Eisenkot said that claims the dozens of hostages could be freed by means other than a cease-fire amounted to spreading “illusions”—an implicit criticism of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who heads the five-member War Cabinet and who insists that pursuing the war will win their release. Eisenkot’s statements came as some relatives of hostages have intensified their protests, a sign of mounting frustration over the government’s seeming lack of progress toward a deal to release the remaining captives.
Women and children are the main victims of the Israel-Hamas war with 16,000 killed, UN says (AP) Women and children are the main victims in the Israel-Hamas war, with some 16,000 killed and an estimated two mothers losing their lives every hour since Hamas’ surprise attack on Israel, the United Nations agency promoting gender equality said Friday. As a result of the more than 100-day conflict, UN Women added, at least 3,000 women may have become widows and heads of households and at least 10,000 children may have lost their fathers. In a report released Friday, the agency pointed to the burden on women fleeing the fighting with children and being displaced again and again. Of the territory’s 2.3 million population, it said, 1.9 million are displaced and “close to one million are women and girls” seeking shelter and safety.
Europe is bearing the brunt of the Red Sea shipping disruptions (WSJ) Attacks by Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen have prompted carriers to make a long, expensive detour around Africa’s Cape of Good Hope, and some factories have halted production because of an absence of needed parts. Should the threat persist, economists think the decline in inflation that Europe enjoyed last year could slow down, pushing back a potential cut in key interest rates. Ships traveling through the Red Sea carry about 40% of the goods traded between Europe and Asia. The share of U.S. imports that use that route is comparatively small, and the Pacific offers an alternative for goods out of Asia. The Houthis say the assaults are a response to the Israel-Hamas war.
Ethnic killings in one Sudan city left up to 15,000 dead—UN report (Reuters) Between 10,000 and 15,000 people were killed in one city in Sudan’s West Darfur region last year in ethnic violence by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and allied Arab militia, according to a United Nations report seen by Reuters on Friday. The monitors also described as “credible” accusations that the United Arab Emirates had provided military support to the RSF “several times per week” via Amdjarass in northern Chad. A top Sudanese general accused the UAE in November of backing the RSF war effort. In a letter to the monitors, the UAE said 122 flights had delivered humanitarian aid to Amdjarass to help Sudanese fleeing the war. The United Nations says about 500,000 people have fled Sudan into eastern Chad, several hundred kilometers south of Amdjarass.
