Vocals and Doubles

After playing back the recording, suggestions had been made within the group that it was an ideal time to double up on the diffierent sounds provided on the midi tracks in regards to creating a similar sound(Airmusictech,2018).

A vocalist from the group had agreed to perform and record their vocals as a cover with the lyrics to ‘Imagine’. After recording the vocals onto a mono track, the group had agreed to copy the track and paste it identically underneath to form a double for the vocals to give it more strength whilst played back with the other instrument tracks. 

A bass track and a Strings track was also added from the plugins selected by the group.

Plug-in Wednesday > AIR Music Technology Hybrid

This one is a synth I have yet to fully try and play around with, but I still wanted to write a bit about it.

For the past 5 days, I have been taking a Pro Tools training class and in there, the instructor showed us Hybrid.

Right away I was hooked on it, this version (rev 1) of the synth has over 800 something patches to choose from. One would think; with that many "presets" one could simply get lost, or say that some patches are a waste of space or useless. That is not the case here.

Hybrid seems to aim to be your number ONE choice of virtual instruments. I think "library" would fit better here as a name. Hybrid has (from what I was shown) presets for every genre of music, pianos, keys, basses, arpeggios etc.

One bad thing is that this is RTAS (or soon AAX) only, so it is meant to be ran alongside Pro Tools. Hybrid requires an iLok too.

I say bad because I have been a long time VST user, but since I now have better knowledge in Pro Tools, I hope to start using it myself soon.

One good thing ? a few hours later into my training I found out that one of the books came with a promo code for ONE free plug in, six to choose from.

Can you guess which one I chose ?

Version 2 of Hybrid should be out soon as I understand AIR is preparing to deliver all of their plugins in Native and HD AAX formats.

Rigging the Amp

To record the piano sound, the signal was sent to a re-amping box which was also connected to a Line amp(GAK,2018). Next to the amp, two microphones had been placed to record the playback coming through the amp. The SM57(Shure,2018) was positioned close the the amp of the speaker whilst the AKG414(Thomann,2018) was placed slightly further away from the amp and used as a room mic to emphasise more of an ambient sound when played back.

The Piano was recorded onto a mono track as it was played through the amp over the template of midi files. The piano sound was picked using the Xpand2(Airmusictech,2018) plugin provided on protools.
