Imperial Era Star Wars Hunger Games AU

the Empire puts on the Hunger Games annually on Empire Day to target and kidnap Force-sensitives in a way that doesn't draw attention to their abilities and also puts on a spectacle to keep the people in line

Luke Skywalker is the Arkanis Sector's youngest-possible tribute, with Ben Kenobi as his Victor Mentor (Obi-Wan Kenobi was a Jedi initiate before the Empire rose who tried to disappear into the Outer Rim under a new name, only to be caught up in the Hunger Games along with several of his charges, including Anakin; he met, fell in love with, and lost Satine, the tribute from Kalevala in his Games)

Luke has secretly been training with Ben, who 'lost' Anakin during his first year as Mentor (completely unaware that the Empire snatched up Anakin's 'body' and twisted him into the Emperor's cyborg attack dog, Darth Vader) and took on the child Anakin's slightly-older fiancee died giving birth to (after smuggling the less-recognizable twin to his friend in another district), to try to revive the lost Jedi Order

Han Solo is Corellia's oldest-possible tribute; Chewbacca is Kashyyk's tribute (the eligibility ages are roughly scaled by species)

Chewie and Han saved each other's lives during an 'accident' during Training, leading them to forge a deep Alliance early

Leia is the daughter of the Mayors of Alderaan, who have gotten...a little too blatant about their stance on the Empire, so she was 'randomly chosen' as tribute to keep her parents in line

Leia was officially in training to take up her parents' mantle as Mayor, but unofficially had already started her training as a Rebel Agent as well

what the Empire doesn't realize, however, is that the Rebel Alliance is finally ready to start moving openly against them

(say hello to Mandalorian Space as District Thirteen everyone, secretly recovering from the Dral'han in their bio-domes and bunkers)

so the Rebellion decides to use the games as a rallying point: Leia knows she just needs to stay alive long enough for the Alliance to find the Arena and make their Open Declaration of War by rescuing the children of the galaxy the Empire had chosen to sacrifice for entertainment

the four of them forge an Alliance that quickly grows into actual friendship

unfortunately, just as they are about to be rescued, the Empire catches wind of the Rebellion's plans

they nuke Alderaan in retaliation, and deploy Darth Vader to wipe out the Arena

Ben, as part of the team Bail prepared to rescue the children, gives his life to hold off Vader to allow them to escape

on their way out, Luke manages to get a single shot off at the known weakness of the hovercraft aircarrier the Empire was using as a mobile nuclear weapons platform, destroying it and buying the Alliance time to rework and launch their plans after Alderaan's loss

- It is October - November of what I assume 2020 (movie got Covided).

- Picture of Cougar in Mav’s locker.

- Talk to me Goose/Dad is said 3 times, once in the Darkstar, once on the aircarrier, and when Rooster says Dad instead of Goose in the canyon.

- The test ship reached Mach 10.4 before going kaboom.

- The cafe in the town Mav lands is called Cecil’s Cafe.

- Mav got sent to the Mojave Desert 3 years pre-movie.

- Bradleys car thingy is a Ford.

- Jake canonically calls Mav pops I thought that was fanon.

- The awkward energy around Sereshaw when they’re first introduced together is not my imagination.
