The funds raised at the event remain a vital lifeline sustaining the prevention, care, and advocacy programs GMHC provides for the thousands of individuals and families affected by the disease in the tri-state area. The proceeds also benefit several HIV/AIDS service organizations that are able to participate as teams and raise funds through the Community Partnership Program (CPP). More than 1.1 MILLION people in the United States are living with HIV/AIDS. In New York City, there are more than 125,000 people living with HIV/AIDS. African Americans account for a higher proportion of new HIV diagnoses and people living with HIV, compared to other races/ethnicities. In 2017, African Americans accounted for 13% of the US population but 43% (16,694) of the 38,739 new HIV diagnoses in the United States and dependent areas. 34 years ago I was born with HIV and still am fighting this disease today, it will be 20 years since I lost my mom because of her health problems, not only this is for me and her, but everyone else who is still fighting to stay alive and to raise money to end aids, Wearing red ranger cosplay means so much for me, I watched power rangers when I was in the hospital trying to fight off against my disease and also fighting to stay healthy. I automatically fell in love with the show and thanks to my mom, I never missed any episodes.
