Each Other's Clothes [Aiyusa]

I got lazy and didn't shade this one, but there's a big chance that I will when I get more energy. I fell in love with the idea of them in each other's outfits, Ai being all dramatic and wanting to dance while Playmaker balances on the D-board... <3

Okay, but one of the things that makes me the most insane about Yusaku and Ai's relationship is the whole tragic hero and villain story they have going on by the end. Like, Playmaker is the hero of Link VRAINS, but he never meant to be or asked to be a hero. At the end of each season, while he manages to save the day, he never accomplishes the main personal goal he sets out to (i.e. season 1 ends with Revolver rejecting his offer of friendship despite Yusaku's insistence on "saving" him since the beginning, season 2 ends with him being forced to kill all the other Ignis to end the conflict rather than achieving the coexistence he was hoping for), culminating in him having to defeat and kill the person closest to him, his dear partner, by the end. Meanwhile, Ai is forced to become the villain because he knows he will continue to be viewed that way for wanting to live alongside humanity as himself, which will lead to Yusaku's tragic death. He believes that the only way to not lose the last person he cares about is to be the monster the hero must kill in order to protect him so the hero won't die protecting him instead..... By the end, when they fight each other, it is not out of hate, but out of love, because more than anything, they just want to stand side by side together and are only on opposite sides due to them both wanting to save each other more than anything. And then the end culminates in Ai professing his love not for the hero Playmaker, but the human Yusaku.... Agh, my heart....

I made this for @queerlyyoursygo and it turns out it is during @aiyusamonth

I think of them as a relationship with asexual, demiromantic, and nonbinary or agender elements, and I wanted to express some of those here. I like that the shape of the relationship changes and Ai's literal shape changes, and I like the hope of 'Yusaku finds Ai and they just keep going forward Together.' I never draw Yusaku in his school uniform because I always imagine him having finished and continued working on what the new shape of the world would be along with Ai.

Anyway, I love them.
