ALSO ik you like the AIB show, but are you aware there's an anime and manga, and what's your opinion on them both? (personally i like the show MUCH more than the anime or manga)

the way you just asked me the money question omg ily

i haven't watched the anime but i've read the manga, and i also prefer the LVA (live-action). there's so many aspects which were artfully expanded on that make it so chef's kiss.

randomly, here are some points that really stood out to me:

the aging up of characters made it so much more realistic and gripping!! it's hard to believe highschoolers would be aceing these games, so the casting was also perfect. kento yamazaki and tao tsuchiya's performances and chemistry works as usual.

inserting arisu into games that he didn't participate in, in the manga. the distance highway game excelled in showing his developing philosophy of wanting everyone to live and no one left behind. as he delivers the motorcycle to the bus, running with his sore legs and that furrow in his brows, his determination really endears itself to the audience in a way that the inner dialogue on a manga panel sometimes falls short of.

additionally, the man in the bus being the one to later help kuzuryuu just clicked. it cemented that compassion that has been present to both the LVA and manga's core. the kindness that he gave, saved him and so many others in their darkest moments. the manga version has kuzuryuu opting to end his life because of one of the participant's response to the distance game, which he made — i feel that this is less impactful.

chota's backstory being changed to his mother being in a cult, which turned out to be a prostitution scheme. it added so much to his scenes with shibuki. ive got a draft post analysing him and shibuki's relationship just because it fucked me up so bad.

this isn't to discount the manga entirely. they're two different mediums with different strengths and weaknesses. for example, the panels that showed the immigration into the borderlands are just insanely beautiful and cool.

i will be doing an in depth analysis of aib LVA vs manga through each episode, but it's still definitely in its fledgling stages. i have so many thoughts, if you can tell 😭😭

- They finish the game and Hatter gives Chishiya a ride back to the Beach (Hatter blasts very unnecessarily loud music in the car whilst Chishiya sinks even more lower in his seat since he’s so done)

- Akane slightly realises how they have the same interests even though Ann only said one sentence about her background
