hello, nice to meet you!
i'm back at the top after rambeling about how i got into drarry, and so here is the fic rec: "genesis (you don't know what it means to win)" by crossourbridges on ao3. you don't have to read the rest if you don't want to.
i also got into drarry 20 years late, but let me tell you another secret: i've never read a page of a harry potter book in my life.
all my knowledge about it is from a friend that i like to listen to her obseasions and pick the ones i wanna get into (while i still enjoy hearing about the ones i don't). one time though she sat me down and we watched the movies, like 1-5 and i got bored at some point so we left it, but one thing that stayed with me was the character of draco.
i saw a sad, hhhhorney loser who just craves attention from EVERYONE, every gender, every house, the poor dude just needs to get layed, but without knowing the canon i'm pretty sure he never will.
that was a couple of years ago, and recently i suddenly remembered him bc i noticed i enjoy ships that are "a harmless prick loser and the misfourtunate everyman that the prick fell in love with, who is actually just insane enough himself to slowly but surly love the prick back".
and so i was like "i'm sure draco and harry are a ship. i wonder what their fanfics are like" and now for weeks i've been in this rabbithole of PROFOUND SHIT THAT MADE ME BELIEVE IN LOVE FOR A HOT SECOND, so yea. this is the reason i'm reccomending you this one. it's one of those stories that are the perfect length and much too short at the same time.
i hope you enjoy :)
first off, thank you so much for the fic rec! i will definitely check it out.
the journey of you becoming a drarry fan is a hilarious read, i'm so happy you shared it with me! hats off to you for being that friend who enjoys hearing about others' obsessions. we need more like you in the world. it's amazing that you absorbed just enough from her all those years ago to have the instinct to say AHA!! i bet people love making these two losers kiss! and u were right.
my turn! let me ramble (for even longer than you did) abt how i happened to the same drarry pit of "profound shit that made me believe in love for a hot second" with you. so on the contrary, i've always been a big HP fan, in the sense that i grew up with the book series and watched the movies. the books are why i became a big reader when i was a kid. i've always been a shipper, i always knew drarry existed, and many of my close friends were obsessed with it throughout the years--like losing weight because they were reading so much fic in bed their muscles atrophied kind of obsessiveness. for some reason, i never engaged. i was like yeah, obviously there's good stuff there, but i'm just not going to dip in.
then one day a few months ago (oct 2023 to be exact), i was bored at work and saw a thread on my home page titled something along the lines of 'absolute favourite fic regardless of fandom'. i was curious and maybe just itching for something fun to read so i clicked in and a highly upvoted reply caught my eye. the user's fav fic was the HP rewrite Mirror of Ecidyrue series by starbrigid. i was honestly really bored, and a draco POV retelling sounded fun, so i dove straight in.
i loved it, and holy shit it was long. i think the entire fic is longer than the og books? but yeah basically i rly enjoyed it, and i read it fast, finishing in only a week or so. i think ever since the transphobia bs happened i distanced myself from everything related to the franchise--i used to reread the books every few years, and i had stopped doing that. reading that fic made me realize how much i missed the world and characters, and how i could have it all again without shame by reading fic! i mean, starbrigid had basically rewritten the entire series and added their own interesting lore and worldbuilding, and that was even better than going back to reread the books like i used to. i also really enjoyed draco pov… i knew i definitely wanted more of that.
and so i went into the ao3 drarry tag to find more content, because i'd heard years ago from my obsessed friends that there was a goldmine of good HP fic there, and i never resurfaced lol. i feel like once u go in u can't ever get out cause it's a good ship and the writers are so talented, and there's YEARS, decades of content to catch up on. i remember also thinking that i'd be satisfied just reading and eating it all up (whereas i'm usually pretty active in making fanart when i join a fandom), but um, a few weeks ago i was like kinda like hmm i wanna see what MY brand of drarry looks like. so now im here posting art of it!
they are thankfully super fun to draw. i'm just having fun here, but i do have a small goal - i wanna draw fic fanart to sort of… give back some joy and show gratitude towards my fav writers. other than that, i'm here to chill and look at pictures and words of them making out.

Sylvester the Cat x Toon!Reader || Drabble
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Plot: I'm just experimenting with the Looney Tune idea so possibly enjoy some cute Sylvester Jr wanting you to be his new other parent.
Warnings: Toon violence?
You're just tying up the ends of Wile E's bandages into a tight little knot, prompting a wince from the coyote and a little board sign saying 'Ouch!'. Immediately you wince, stepping back. "Ohh... sorry, Wile E... I'm not exactly certified... " Daffy made you do this job, seeing as you're worse at sports then any of them- and that's saying something.
His head falls forward slightly and his ears wilt as you step back.
"Okay! Who's nex- " Turning around - picking up some more bandages and band aids in one fist, and an industrial sized tube of Acme branded antiseptic cream tucked under your other arm, - you look about for your next patient.
- And droop as soon as you see what kind if work load is waiting for you. It looks like every toon you know is lined up for medical attention!
The bandages and band aids slip out of your hands and scatter across the floor. "Oh boy." Quickly taking a deep breath to refresh yourself, you perk right up in order to get to it. Okay! "Sly! You're first, what's wro- Uh, hah. Nevermind."
Looking at him... maybe you don't have to ask...
Tweety flies through the giant gaping hole in Sylvester's tummy and the cat gives great sigh, slumping forward. "Why are the only times he's in there are when he can get out!!"
"I know, I know, woe is you. Sit down." You have no time for sympathies right now, you can allocate Sly only 2 minutes- and that's because you like him. The other patients coming get only one. "Okay, Sly!... um... " Oh brother you're stuck. Why do you do with an ailment like this?? Sylvester patiently sits, waiting for you to finish as you set your paws on your hips with a huff... wondering where exactly to go from here. Hm. "Do you maybe... know where your insides... are? Like, presently?"
"Uhh, they were... disintegrated... "
You two share a concerned look. "Maybe... spackle?- "
Just as Sylvester is gulping down his fear at your crazy suggestion, a certain black and white kitten comes speeding out of the crowd at the two of you. "FATHER!" Sylvester Junior stops at his fathers side, eyes wide with worry. "Father! Is he okay, Y/N??"
As you start rifling through your medical kit for something actually useful, you waive a dismissive paw at the kitten. "Oh, don't worry SJ. Your dad has recovered from worse- you know that."
Oh- that gives you an idea! It may not be strictly medical... or orthodox in the least, but its worth a try! Come on- you guys are toons. Straightening up, you look to the court; Searching for the little yellow speck you know is flying around somewhere.
Sylvester Jr nods slowly, pouting. His eyes are big, and round, and adorably full of worry. "Do you think I can sit on his lap safely, Y/N?"
Oh he's just the cutest. You turn back to your patient and raise your brows at him. "Can he?"
Sly perks up at the chance to get some much needed affection - rather then shameful berating, - from his rugrat. "Of course he can- come on, son- oww... " Unfortunately Sylvester Junior throws caution to the wind, and launches his little body at his father- almost going all the way through and causing you to seriously wince, but luckily Sylvester has a good grip on him and sets him in his lap rather then inside the cavern that was his belly. "Aghhh... thanks, son... I feel a lot better now... oof!- "
Sylvester Junior has thrown his arms around his father, and your heart leaps at the adorable scene...
Except- you wouldn't have, if you had heard what was really going on in that hug.
Sylvester's eyes widen and he deadpans at his son, hearing the words that come out in a rushed, hoarse whisper as soon as the hug he thought was genuine closes around his neck. Of course... this is his son, after all...
"How am I doing, Father?? Is Y/N looking?? I've been told that other cats become more inclined to date a cat who's good with children!, and since you're hopeless at that, I've elected myself, your darling baby son, to help you! So, are they looking father??"
"Junior!"
"Yes father???"
"I do not need your help to woo anyone, and I'm working on Y/N... " Sly tries to assure Jr, not sounding totally sure as his eyes fall downcast. "Its, uh, just a slow process, is all... " After a moment, he proudly lifts his chin, and he would puff out his chest, if... you know.. it was there... "I got your mother on my own, didn't I??"
Sylvester's proud moment is cut off quickly as his son pulls away from him to give a very deadpanned, sassy expression at the mention of his absentee mother cat. "And where is she, may I ask, father??"
A loud 'Aha!' comes from you a few feet away as you jump up, and grab something right out of the air.
Deeply rolling his eyes, irritation flickering inside him at the antics of his son, Sylvester Sr plonks him down on the bench beside him, angrily crossing his arms. Jr follows suit, looking like an exact replica of his father... except, smaller.
Blinking blankly around to see the two, with Tweety now wriggling around in your paws, you giggle at the sight. "What happened to you two? You were having such a heart warming father-son moment a second ago!"
"I'm full of shame, Y/N. Oh woe... "Sylvester Jr sighs, shaking his head as Sr turns his head slowly to look at him. "How am I to face my friends at the playground... My father- a loser!"
Sylvester pointedly looks away, angry eyes pointing towards the court. "My son... a spoiled brat. How am I ever to show my face in society, again?" An even heavier sigh comes out of Sylvester Jr at that remark, and Sylvester Sr immediately jumps up from the bench, pointing a stern finger at his son. "Oh no ya don't- Don't you dare get out that bag!!"
"But Father! I'm full of shame!" Sylvester Jr whines, holding the paper bag in his lap as you watch the two in wonderment. How they can bicker like this, and still have such an adorable, open relationship you have no clue - some kids are too scared to talk back to their fathers, - but the state of these two's relationship is truly, really endearing to you.
Oh how you love Sly... You catch yourself swooning at the thought of him, and immediately stop yourself. Stop it, Y/N! This is not the time for that. Taking a deep breath, you shake yourself. Okay, back to the task at hand.
Meanwhile, Sylvester snatches the paper bag away from Jr. "Oh, cut that out, wouldja?!"
While there's a pause in the argument, you jump and take your chance to hold up Tweety in front of Sylvester's face- his pupils shrinking at the sight and his teeth growing sharper, somehow.
"Oh no oh no- You mean old puddy tads- using me like this!" Tweety exclaims, wings pressed firmly to your paws and pushing, struggling to wiggle up and out of your tight grip. Yeah yeah, you think. Tell it to the choir.
Hopefully when I let Tweety go, Sly will give chase... and be all better!
Heh... isn't that how it works? It is, right? He'll 'perk right up'! you could say.
"Alright... here goes nothing!" You squeak, closing your eyes and letting Tweety go, hoping to god that Sylvester doesn't trample you in his endeavour to snatch his favourite little yellow bird.
Feeling a wind blow against you side and ruffling your fur as Sylvester springs to action, you slowly crack your eyes open again- first seeing Sylvester Jr as he still sits on the bench in front of you swinging his legs over the side of the bench, before peaking over your shoulder, and... "Yes!" You cry out as soon as your keen feline eyes catch sight of Sylvester looking good as new again on the court, chasing Tweety through the still-roaring basketball game. Clasping your hands together, your tail wiggles excitedly behind your back. "It worked!"
"What?" Sylvester hears your cheering and immediately halts in his tracks, looking at you then down at himself- a big, toothy smile spreading across his face when he see's he's all better. "Y/N! You did it! Thanks!"
"Of course!" You call back, then point at the scoreboard and wink. "Now kick those Monstar's butts for me!"
The green Monstar turns a squinty looking evil eye on you at hearing your words but you don't care- you're far too busy burning the image of Sly giving you a thumbs up into your mind.
"Heheh, no problem... " That trademark evil grin slips across Sly's face again as he rubs his paws together, turning his attention back to the game as you sigh, paws on your hips; Happy with your job well done.
"Uh, hello??" Someone speaks up from behind you, and you jump, suddenly remembering the mile long line of toons that still need medical attention.
Ohhh... great. You slowly turn around, seeing Elmer giving you angry eyes and quickly look extremely apologetic, paws awkwardly behind your back and spine as straight as a plank. Oops!
You might seem help... you think you tilting your head to see the rest of the long... long, l o n g line. "Uhh... SJ? You wanna help me play nurse, maybe?"
"Oh, yes Y/N!" He exclaims enthusiastically, hopping off the bench and taking up your medical kit in his short little arms- which is way too big for him. You giggle and take it from the kitten, patting his head. "I'll be happy to be your assistant!"
Fist bumping each other, you wink. "That's the kinda attitude I like to see! Lets go."
~
A couple hours and countless injuries later and the game is coming to a nail chewing close. Truly, this is a new level of anxiety you're feeling as you leave Sylvester Junior, now exhausted and up past his bedtime, curled in Granny's lap with a blanket strewn over him. Then you sit back down to watch the game beside a very injured Sly, as Witch Hazel defibrillates Taz.
If Michael doesn't make this shot - with but seven seconds to go, - he has to move to Moron Mountain in your place. You all dragged him here for help and now h's the one with everything on the line.
You cant help but feel a massive load of guilt.
"Oh I cant watch!" You squeak suddenly amongst the thunderous sounds of the audience at 4 seconds, and cover your eyes. "Tell me when its over!"
.
.
.
3 seconds later, the buzzer screeches and you hear the toons around you cheering, and peak out nervously from beyond your paws. ... What happened?
Your gaze flickers to the score board.
Oh my god. A deep, relieved breath comes out of you. "We won!?"
"We won!" Sylvester concurs, jumping up from the bench and throwing a fist into the air. Then he puts his paws on your arms and beams down at you. "We're not gonna be slaves!!"
You wonder what you could say in response, but the one thing your body is telling to you to do is throw your arms around him- so you do. And he doesn't think twice before squeezing you back, picking you up and swinging you around.
Then the world comes crashing down around Sly, as his son opens his eyes to see the scene- and gasps. The kitten sits up quickly in Granny's lap and points. "Oh, father! You did it! I knew you could do it!"
Immediately Sylvester puts you down, his paws retreating from you and a definite sense of nervousness - and maybe embarrassment? - settles over him. You raise your brows, confused, but still swimming in the joy of the game being won and just tilt your head as you confusedly smile. "What did he do??"
Sly Jr doesn't even think a second before gleefully elaborating- despite his father very nearly shaking his soul free waving his hands at him in a doomed endeavour to shut his son up. "No- stop, Junior!- "
"Asked you out! Didn't he?" As the wide eyed bewilderment on your face and the utter horror on Sylvester's dawns on Jr, his shoulders drop and he turns disappointedly at his dad. "Didn't you?"
"No!"
"Oh, father!- "
Sylvester Sr's tail, shoulders, and head slump forward as he turns his kitten around so he faces away from the two of you, embarrassment replaced by exasperation. "You're tired, son. Go to sleep. Night night, sleep tight, sweet dreams, don't let the bed bugs bite and we'll talk in the morning." Then he slowly, meekly turns back to you.
And you're practically glowing. "Sly... what's he talking about?"
"Father likes you!- " Sylvester Jr tries to speak up again, turning his head but Sr twists his head carefully back, a reprimanding tone in his voice.
"Sleep! Hah hah... " Sylvester (Sr) turns back to you, arms held carefully behind his back as he chuckles nervously. "My son is... troubled... a little- "He point at his head and swirls his finger; A gesture reading 'Loopy'. As soon as the meaning behind that word and his gesture occurs to you, you visibly droop. Oh. Okay... I guess SJ was just messing with us... Sly watches this reaction, and his ears perk up quickly; Sensing some dissappintment. "I mean, uh... unless you liked the i-idea?"
You peak up at him again from the floor, seeing his face slowly going red. "... D-do you?"
"Wha- I asked first! You answer the question."
"Hey." Setting your fists to your hips, you look stubbornly at him. "You were just taking it all back! So you tell the truth. Which is it??"
"Yeah- but I asked the question first!"
"Sylvester James Pussycat Senior!"
"Pfft... if you think pulling full name on me is going to change anything... " He rolls his eyes, crossing his arms. "You've got another thing comin'!"
Your eyes narrow, and so do his, before suddenly Taz jumps up from the bench he was resting on and ZOOMS past Sly so fast and so hazardously, that he's caught off guard and jumps forward with a yelp- accidentally knocking you.
"Oh!-"
"H-hold on, I got ya!!" Sylvester's eyes widen to the size of dinner plates and he grabs you just before gravity manages to drag you down to the ground; Pulling you back up to your feet- which just so happens to bring you two extremely close together.
Two sets of eyes widen and faces go red.
Everything seems to go a little quieter around you, the deafening sounds of the auditorium seeming to get plunged under water as the crazy all just slows down for just a moment. Enough for you to enjoy the few seconds you foreseeably get before he jumps back like someone sprayed him.
But to your surprise, he doesn't move. Just stands there and looks shocked... but does not move even an inch away from you. Doesn't even let go of you.
Finally, after a few good moments, you sigh and give in. "... Sly, would you like to go out sometime with me?"
"Ah... " His ears flatten against his head as he looks bashful, with a cute little smile that makes your stomach do backflips as he curls his tail around yours. "Yes, I'd like that very much."
You lean up and give him a feather light kiss on the cheeks- and he goes even redder.

Hi! I just read your fics about bakugou and hinata, and It's super cute + antimainstream!! Can I request lee Kageyama, with ler / lers from BNHA (your choice) probably make it a sequel it'll be cutee <3
Ahhh yesss!! I think that'll be perfect! x3
⚠️ A bit of swearing ⚠️
Sequel to "Who are you?"
Lee Kageyama! Ler Deku! Ler Bakugou!
It had been about a week since the strange encounter with the scary dude that came from a portal. But Hinata was able to shrug it off, though it still lingered in the back of his mind during practices. He was yelled at by Kageyama a couple of times because he wasn't timing his jumps properly.
"Oi Hinata! are you even listening to me??" the tall setter asked angrily. The short spiker squeaked and stumbled back a bit lost in thought. "O-oh umm yes?" he answered but it didn't sound at all convincing.
The black haired boy just sighed. "Did something happen when you were cleaning up the equipment last week?" he asked. Hinata's eyes widened why would he ask if something happened last week... "No nothing happened why?". Kageyama looked to the side "Nothing just wondering because your not playing like how you usually do that's all".
Apon hearing that Hinata smirked "Ohhh are you worried about me~?". The setter just made an incoherent noise and failed to serve the ball and it hit him on the head. You could hear Nishinoya's and Tanaka's laughter from the other side of the court. "W-what!? N-no I was merely just asking since you are not acting like yourself and wondered if last week caused it" he turned away getting red in the cheeks. "Oh! well I'm fine! thanks anyway" the redhead said in a cheerful voice.
"Hey! everyone it's time to see who cleans the equipment this time!" Diachi yelled. They were going to have a round of rock, paper, scissors to declare the loser. Who will be the loser?
To Kageyama's surprise he lost at rock, paper, scissors and had to clean up the equipment this time. Even though he didn't want to clean up he was still curious on what happened to Hinata. Suga came over and put his hand on his shoulder.
"You going to be good putting everything away?" he asked. The setter looked up at him and nodded, his face saying of course I can do this. The gray haired boy smiled and left for the locker room along with everyone else. Soon everyone had left making the court room feel echoey with each step he took. With that Kageyama started to take the volleyball net down getting it off the hook. The room was quite and relaxing without all the noise bouncing off the walls and he could finally think. He was going over to take the other side of the net down when all of a sudden he heard something. Looking around him he didn't see anything unusual, so what was it?
Then what felt like something fell from the sky fell on him and it was very heavy.
"Ouch! what the hell Deku!? did you really have to push me in that damn portal!" a loud angry voice said. "A-ah! I'm sorry Kacchan!! I kinda slipped heh" replied a shaky voice.
Kageyama's senses were coming back to him and he saw two figures on top of him. He blinked "U-umm can you guys get off of me please?". The two figures turned around "O-oh! I'm sorry! the boy with the green hair said getting off rather quickly and making weird hand gestures. The other also got off but stared at him "Tch who are you?" the blonde guy scoffed.
"Kacchan! don't be rude we have to introduce ourselves first, sorry about him I'm Midoriya and that guy over there is Bakugou" Deku said with a smile. The kurasuno player looked up at them "Uhh I'm Kageyama" he replied. To make this less akward he decided to get up of the floor but he couldn't. It appears when those two fell on him it caused the volleyball net to get tangled around him making him trapped.
"Hey umm guys I'm stuck..." Izuku panicked "Oh no! I guess that's our fault here we'll help you!" he said rushing over to his side to help untangle him. Bakugou knelt down behind him and was gonna try and rip it off of him grabbing the net on both his of his sides. But before he tried anything he heard a strangled noise come from the black haired boy's mouth. He turned his head towards the UA student "H-hey careful where you put your hands". Bakugou smirked and squeezed his sides a few times.
"Hnngh! Nhg w-what are you doing?" squeaked the poor setter. Bakugou didn't say anything he just kept wiggling his fingers up his sides. It made him wiggle and squirm, giggles making their way out of his mouth.
"Kacchan what ever you are doing is making it harder for me to undo the knots! Can you please stay still?" asked the greenette.
"Ihihihim trihihiying!! buhuhut Ihihit tihickles!" giggled the usually grumpy looking volleyball player. "Pff I think he likes it he hasn't even asked for me to stop" Bakugou grinned. "I-I doHOho nahahat!!" he laughed with heavy blush dusted on his cheeks. And if things weren't as bad now they certainly would get worse soon. Midoriya decided to untangle the net at his stomach and tried grabbing it but failed because of his squirming and instead accidentally clawed his belly. This caused Kageyama to squeal and arch his back. "Hey keep still or I can't untangle it!" Deku yelled. "Nahahaht there!!!" the setter squawked trying to get away but realized he couldn't.
Not far away a certain someone was rushing back to the volleyball court room
Idiot, idiot, idiot! how could you forget your bag! Hinata thought to himself as he ran like the wind back to the locker rooms. But he stopped in front of the doors because he heard loud racquet coming from inside. Curious he opened the door a bit and peaked inside, the redhead couldn't believe what he was seeing!? was the Kageyama Tobio laughing on the floor. He grinned seeing the grumpy guy smile for once but his face quickly turned pale. He recognized the people with him it was Katsuki and the other was Deku? Why are they here? he thought. Well he certainly didn't want to get involved with whatever they were doing so he decided to go home and get his bag tomorrow.
For what seemed to be hours
"Nahahahahahah!!! S-stohop!!! P-plehehehese?! Ihihiihi cahahan't tahahake Ihihit!!!" Yelled poor Kageyama with tears of mirth running down his flushed cheeks.
"Aha! I got it" Deku shouted. And with that the setter felt the net start to loosen and fall off but the tickles didn't stop. Kageyama felt like he'd been laughing forever and he was starting to get tired. "Ok Kacchan that's enough" Midoriya said putting a hand on his shoulder. Bakugou stopped and got up "I still say you enjoyed it" he smirked. The giggly setter curled in on himself hugging his stomach and sides.
"Sorry about getting you tangled up Kageyama" apologized Midoriya.
"It's f-fine" he said still breathless
"Oi Deku, we need to get going" Bakugou said. Deku nodded "Oh yes we do" he took the remote out his pocket and pressed the button creating a portal. "I guess this is goodbye than" Midoriya said. Bakugou didn't say anything just stared at Kageyama. But deep down Kageyama knew that was his way of saying goodbye. Then they both went into the portal disappearing almost instantly.
Leaving Kageyama to sigh to himself.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tiny bonus: If Hinata didn't go home ;3
Hinata decides to come through the door to find Kageyama still on the floor. Noticing his presence he turned his head and his eyes widened.
"What are you doing here carrot head?" he stared at him.
"I-I forgot my bag" Hinata said in a shaky voice fearing that Kageyama would bonk him on the head but he didn't. So he went ahead and got his bag from the locker room. When he came back the setter stopped him right in his tracks.
"Hey did you see anything?" he asked
"U-umm no w-what do mean?" the spiker said
"Mm...ok"
"Totally didn't see you laughing helplessly on the floor :v" the short redhead grinned.
"Hi-na-ta..." Kageyama mouthed
"H-huh?"
"Are you even fully aware that you just said that out loud..."
Hinata paled. And gulped something told him that he should run for his life. That he did with the king of the courts loud thundering footsteps close behind him.
midnight run
Pairing: kim sunwoo x reader
Request: hi! can I get request midnight convenience store run fluff with sunwoo from the boyz please?
“Ah, I don’t feel like getting up.”
“I don’t feel like moving at all.”
You and Sunwoo have been staring at the ceiling for the past hour, too exhausted and lazy to even move a muscle or do anything productive.
After his practice finished for the day, Sunwoo immediately rushed to get his things together. The members didn’t even get to say their goodbyes before he was out the door to head over to your place. He used the spare key to enter, only to see you laying on the floor. Without any questions as to why, he joined you.
“What time is it?”
“Five minutes from when you last asked,” You replied, glancing at him. You chuckled when you saw the glare on his face. “It’s midnight.”
Sunwoo went quiet.
“Should we go do something then?”
“Do we have to?”
“No, but I kinda want to do a midnight convenience store run right now, if you’re up for it? You know, like how all the cool kids do.”
You couldn’t help but laugh as he wiggled his eyebrows, wearing a smug smile.
“Yeah, okay. As if you’re cool.”
“Hey!”
“But I wouldn’t mind. Let’s do it.”
He pouted, not being able to let the uncool comment you made towards him. You rolled your eyes, chuckling and shaking your head as you helped each other get up. Grabbing the hoodie off the kitchen chair on your way out, you and Sunwoo were off into the cold, winter night.
It was calm and quiet, bringing peace to those who still wandered under its lit sky. A small breeze created a chill here and there, making you stuff your hands in your pockets in hopes of getting little warmth. Looking up at the sky brought a sense of peace and you couldn’t help but to bask in it.
With your mind distracted, Sunwoo looped your arms together and pulled you along. You and your innocent mind of yours brought him trouble when you walked into too many poles. Though, he found it endearing when you were lost in your own little world.
“There it is,” Sunwoo said, bringing you out of your distracted state. Your eyes traveled to the brightly convenience store and you turned to him with a smile. Suddenly, you were filled with a burst of energy.
“Let’s go!”
“Hey, wait!” He didn’t have the chance to complain about your fast pace before you were pulling him towards the store.
Moments later, he found himself standing in front of the sweets section. He glanced over at you and fondly smiled at the way your eyes lit up at the sight of the desserts. You were mumbling to yourself about which to choose from since there were so many choices to pick from.
“Y/N.” He gently placed his hand on your lower back, starling you as you looked at him. He chuckled. “It’s my treat tonight, so pick out whatever you’d like.”
“I have never loved you more than I do at this moment.” You threw yourself at him, wrapping your arms around his neck. Rolling his eyes, he accepted your hug.
“Yeah, yeah. Choose before I change my mind.”
You immediately let him go, which brought a wave of coldness. He hid his disappointment and joined you in picking out sweets to eat. There truly were so many to try out. They looked so good.
The both of you decided to choose two for tonight, then made a promise to come back another night to get more. You left the dessert section and wandered around the store to pick up drinks, chips and anything that could make great late-night snacks.
“Okay, okay, but what about-” You paused to take a snack off the shelf to show Sunwoo.
“Strawberry flavored shrimp? Really, Y/N?”
You shrugged, innocently looking at the package.
“Why not? Don’t you want to be adventurous?”
“And ruin my taste buds permanently? No, thank you. There is still a lot of food I would like to enjoy until I’m old and grey.” Sunwoo stuck his tongue out at you as he passed you.
“Boo. Lame.”
He stopped walking. “Just get the small version and let’s go.”
“Yay!”
“But don’t come crying to me when you realize how gross it turned out to be.”
“It’ll be fine, no worries!”
“Uh huh.”
After choosing everything the both of you wanted, you were on your way to the register when a brilliant idea came to mind. You grinned as you twirled on your heel to face Sunwoo. Because he wasn’t paying attention, he bumped into you, almost spilling everything.
He frowned while you giggled.
“Bet on those?” You pointed to your favorite chips. He looked between the chips and you.
“Why? Don’t you have enough at home?”
You pouted. “What’s 1 more? Or 10 more?”
“You don’t need 10 bags, Y/N.”
“Oh, but I surely think I do.”
You grinned, extending your hand out for him to shake. He took a moment to consider his options. Begrudgingly, he took it as he wondered why you could possibly want so many. It was probably just because or you didn’t want to pay for them due to you being a broke college student. Must be the latter.
“Rock, paper, scissors, shoot!”
“Aha! I won! You have to pay up.”
He let out a sigh, but of course held up the deal.
Alas, as promised, Sunwoo paid for everything. He watched as the price racked up so easily with the amount of food you both gathered. Though, he supposed it was worth it if it meant making you happy.
“Sunwoo, can we get-”
“No.”
“How about-”
“We have it at home.”
You frowned, stomping down your foot. “But you don’t even know what I was going to say!”
“If it’s not at your place, then it’s at mine.”
“But Sunwoo.”
“You have to finish everything first before you buy more stuff, bub.”
“Lame.”
He chuckled, rolling his eyes. Then, he paid and gathered up everything before bidding the cashier a farewell. You walked over to him and tried to carry a bag when he pulled it away from you. He gave you a frown.
“What do you think you’re doing?”
“Helping you?”
“No, I’ve got this.”
“All right, all right,” You chuckled, letting it go. Then, you were heading home.
“Say, why don’t we go back tomorrow?”
“For what exactly? We have enough to last us a week.”
“Jeez, take my subtle hint of wanting to hang out with you already!”
“Could’ve just said so without the roundabout way, loser.”
“That’s it! You’re not getting any of my chocolate milk!”
“Hey, wait! That’s unfair, Y/N!”
Okay. Time for me to make my own contribution to @meowthefluffy Lust au. Please enjoy.
Inspired by the Jennie meme animatic.
“Hey Ro,” Virgil greeted as he walked into the room.
Roman’s heart was racing. Why was Virgil here? Now of all times?
“Virge? What brings you here?” he asked casually praying he’d locked the closet door sufficiently.
“I think I accidently left my hoody here when we watched movies the other day,” Virgil explained as he looked under the bed.
Roman’s heart was pounding. Please God, don’t let him mention the box.
The box held… small little treasures. A nearly empty bottle of dark purple nail polish, a hairclip, a pen. Silly things that got misplaced all the time. He hadn’t been able to help himself but collect those little memento’s.
As Virgil kept looking under the bed, Roman shot a glare at the mirror. He’d known that taking the hoodie was one step too far. But until just now he’d been unable to care. Putting the hoodie on had been… Well…
His reflection shifted to one of Lust nestled comfortably in his love’s hoodie. The airheaded Virgil clone behind him embracing him in a hug, notably hoodyless, much like the Virgil who was muttering curses underneath his breath.
Lust smirked knowingly and glanced in the direction of the real Virgil with a fond expression. Roman followed his gaze and looked away real fast. He did not want to get caught staring.
“I didn’t find it in here,” he answered truthfully. He had found it in Virgil’s room when he’d entered earlier and found it without it’s inhabitant but with that signature hoodie laying out in the open. In a moment when he’d been wondering what it would be like to be surrounded by the warmth and Virgil’s smell. He had planned on bringing it back before it was missed. But then he’d been comfortable and thinking about falling asleep in Virgil’s arms… And then he’d woken up to a knock on his door, which brought them right back here.
“I swear if this is Remus’ idea of a prank I’ll kick… Never mind he’d probably only enjoy that.” Virgil sighed frustrated as he got back up. Roman felt a pang of guilt in his heart when he saw how upset the situation made Virgil. It was not worth keeping the hoodie.
“Wait a minute… my clothes never stray. Maybe one of my little friends put your hoodie in my closet,” he suggested as he walked over to the wardrobe where he’d quickly hidden the ‘borrowed’ garment. It was true. In the event of untidyness on his part there were usually several woodland critters who ensured the room stayed clean.
“Of course you have animal sidekicks,” Virgil sighed. Amused and hopeful.
Roman could see Lust’s displeased pout. He knew what he’d say later. He’d gotten more and more aggressive about his inactions. Hence the… Stealing.
It was getting out of hand. He had worked too hard for Virgil to be his friend. He’d even call them best friends at this point, relying on each other to complain and joke about the others. Able to tease and mock without any bitterness. He did not want to risk that. And at the same time… Lust screamed at him to just ruin that friendship. Promising that anything was better than this useless pining.
Roman refused though. He’d deal. They had a good thing going. It didn’t matter what he whished for, he should be grateful for what he had after how poorly he’d treated Virgil in the past so he wouldn’t have to deal with his hopeless crush on him.
He opened the closet door. “Aha!” he exclaimed as he took out the hoodie with a flourish.
“Victory is ours!” he jested as he turned to Virgil who stood there with crossed arms. His friend/crush/love of his life rolled his eyes with a fond smile and reached out his hand.
Roman handed the hoodie over and watched with a small pang of regret as Virgil once again hid away his form in his hoodie. Such a shame.
“Ro… Why does my hoodie smell like roses?”
Roman was torn between regular panic and gay panic.
On the one hand, his scent lingered in Virgil’s hoodie. On the other, Virgil thought he smelled like roses. Holly!!!
“Okay… Don’t be mad…” he started as he scrambled for an excuse.
“I’m making no promises…” Virgil said slowly in a low voice that made Roman’s hairs stand on end.
“Well… I… I was looking for you earlier and… You weren’t in your room, but I saw your hoodie just lying there and I got curious…”
Virgil raised a brow.
“Well… I wondered why you always wear a hoodie, no matter the weather. So… I thought I’ll try it on and then put it back. But… Then I got… Anxious about you walking in on me trying it and for some reason my brain concluded that steal borrowing was a good plan?”
He felt terrible. Using Virgil’s room characteristics as an excuse. But the alternative was telling him about Lust. And there was simply no way. Who knows what would happen if any of the others found out.
“So?”
Roman blinked in confusion. “Um… So what?”
Virgil smirked. “Has his highness decided hoodies are acceptable clothing items?”
Honestly? “Well… I suppose there is something to be said for it… Don’t worry though. I won’t be taking your stuff ever again,” he swore.
“Good,” Virgil nodded before leaving the room without another word.
“Good job. Now he’ll never be with you and you can’t even pretend for a minute!” Lust pouted.
Roman sighed and walked to his desk. He was not going to put up with this today.
An hour later though there was a knock on his door.
When he opened it he got a face full of soft fabric.
“Move loser, we are watching Steven universe. Dress code is hoodies and sweatpants.”
Roman automatically stepped aside and let Virgil walk through. When he turned around, pulling the soft fabric from his face , he could see Virgil lay out pillows and blankets and snacks. He was beyond confused. He looked at the fabric that had been tossed at his face and his eyes widened.
It was a gorgeous hoodie tailored exactly to his taste in red, gold and white and with a matching pair of red and gold sweatpants.
“Go get dressed dude!” Virgil commanded as if this wasn’t the nicest thing he could’ve done.
“I know it’s too big, but it’s not my fault you are a midget. Besides, oversized hoodies are the best.”
Roman smiled gently and did as instructed. Ten minutes later they were both under a blanket watching the intro play. Virgil was sitting so close Roman feared he could hear his heart pounding. And then he leaned into him. Without thinking Roman wrapped an arm around him so he’d be more comfortable.
“You tell the others about this, I’ll just deny it,” Virgil warned. “I have a reputation.”
Roman smiled. “Of course,” he nodded.
“S’ your own fault for smelling good,” Virgil added so quietly that Roman was sure he imagined it.
He just relaxed and allowed himself to take in Virgil’s entire presence.
And for the rest of the night, he allowed himself to pretend that Virgil was hoping for more just as much as he was.
1. if you could live in a fictional world, which one would you live in?
2. it's the zombie apocalypse !! (of course there's gonna be a zombie apocalypse question, thisis me we're asking) which one of my tumblr moots would you want to help you survive? other than me, of course, that'd be cheating.
3. what was your favorite childhood snack?
4. which marvel character is your favorite? talk to me about your fav marvel movie, your least fav marvel movie / show, and what you think about marvel's time traveling concept.
5. what are some of the worst movies you've watched?
6. what do you think is the best thing you've ever written? ik it's hard to choose, all your writing's amazing.
7. what kind of superpower would you want? do you think you'd make a good superhero?
8. what are some deal-breakers for you when it comes to relationships, whether it be romantic or platonic?
9. rant to me about a show you're watching <3
10. any advice for the kids who are pursuing the stem branch? aka me #lolzies
im gonna stop at 10 qs but !!! happy 2k to user @/gyukult aha :fboi:
:( you’re too nice husna even though i hate you and bash on you everyday
f-fun? i hope so.... or else i’m going into this and crying because your questions stress me out. just kidding or whatever is that how people tell jokes
i answered them below the read more bc it got long LOL
ask me questions for my 2k q&a!!
1. hm. like based off a movie or whatever? i wanna live in the marvel cinematic universe. do you think bucky or steve will notice me? also, wouldn’t it be so interesting to live in a world where there’s these people that call themselves ‘the Avengers’ and dress in colorful spandex or weird robotic armor? (i hope i answered this right.)
2. hm. can i be honest? the rest of gta are a bunch of weaklings and i don’t think any of them could help me survive. they might kill me first actually and it be by accident. if i had to give an answer, jae.
3. i used to live in an area where there were corner stores, and back in the day, snacks were like 25cents a pop but that’s another story for another time. i used to eat a lot of Little Debbies snacks so I would eat like those oatmeal creme pies, the cosmo brownies and the zebra cakes !!!
4. steve rogers but,, you knew that. class A hottie amirite i honestly feel like i’d have to go back and rewatch all those movies a second time (the last time i did that was before infinity war) but i honestly did really like infinity war & end game? i think watching all those movies throughout all those years and then seeing those two movies it just .... hit different. like i think if you didn’t watch any marvel movies and just watched those two, it wouldn’t feel the same way it hit us??? (remember, peter,,, with,,,, tony....) UGH I HATED CAPTAIN MARVEL !!! DID THEY ONLY MAKE THAT MOVIE JUST TO FULFILL THE “FEMALE EMPOWERMENT” AGENDA AND THEN DIDN’T THINK OF HTE PLOT!?!?!?!??!?! I’ M SO MA D?!!?!/ honestly. i’m not sure. i think i’m not the type to pick out a lot of stuff in films but at the same time...... i notice..... a lot of gaps in between things yet at the same time i never care enough to speak up about it? but maybe i can pick your brain on it another day. :D
5. sierra burgess is a loser. to all the boys i’ve loved 3. f9. wonder woman 1984. captain marvel. the new adaption for mulan. tall girl. i probably had way more honestly because you know how i love watching bad movies to give them the benefit of the doubt then being disappointed.
6. this is hard !! but i’m torn between after midnight and hello. i say after midnight because it’s out of my comfort zone to write anything fwd (it’s honestly kind of hard) but i managed to push through that and made it work! and i say hello because it’s one of my first long length fics and it just. i love the meaning behind it and it always has a place in my heart. :(
7. i think i wouldn’t make a good superhero tbh LOL i’m like an anti-hero or something LMFAO but if i were to have a superpower, probably super strength. no reason. just wanna throw stuff around.
8. i’m really big on honesty and respect. if my feet stinks, please tell me. but also there’s just something about respect from both friends and a significant other that i prioritize!! some things about a person’s personality can’t be forced to change, and that’s fine, but if they can’t be at least honest or respectful towards me, which btw is the bare minimum, consider yourself cut off.
9. !!! i’m only watching kitchen nightmares rn !! LMFAO but honestly i get so mad when people waste gordon’s time or act like he’s here for himself when they’re the ones who asked to be on the show??/ like hello did you forget you wrote into the show so you could be helped??? hello???? also i can’t help but wonder like how much time did he spend away from family bc of shows like these only to have ungrateful bitches out here smfh
10. LOL STEM !! i love stem even though i hate it. i think something to keep in mind is that there’s an end goal to this. throughout the ride, you’re gonna feel discouraged and feel like this isn’t for anything. but remember why you did it in the first place. and is it worth it? because that’s how i felt often but i remember taking those trips to job-site tours to see construction in progress, and i’m like yeah. this is why. i like this. i wanna work in this in the future. and i think it’s easy to forget what you’re working for during the obstacles because your head is only wrapped around that and whatever is in the moment, but just remember to step back, breathe and try to remember what you’re in this for !!
and even if you’re not 100% solid in what you like, don’t forget to try out different things even if they’re not pertaining to your major. you’re young, you have time to figure things out, and when you discover you don’t like something, great! that scratches off one thing on your list. now you’re one step closer to finding something you like.
HOW DO I HANUKKAH?! (Part 2)
Stark’s Christmas Party and The Hanukkah Getaway.
Natasha Romanoff X reader
Modern AU
Words: 1,162
Warnings: Hurt animal, fire? maybe.
Request: Nope.
Summary: You have to spend the weekend with your idiot friends, after Starks party. Luckily you love them, and your girlfriends there to help you through it.
A/N: It’s finally here! Sorry, it’s a lil behind. I had no clue what to do for this. So, here. Have this mess. Hope you, at least somewhat, like it!
Tumblr media
(Not My GIF)
***
A bad as you first expected Starks annual Christmas party to be. It was quite enjoyable, really.
Right now, you were looking for Natasha, who had stepped away for a breath of fresh air. Spotting her standing on the balcony, with her arms hanging over the railing, you pushed open the door.
“Hey, pretty lady.”
“Hey, yourself,” Natasha smirked over her shoulder.
“What are you doing out here?” she asked as you wrapped your arms around her, pulling her so that her back was connected to your front.
“Just looking for my beautiful girlfriend.”
“Hmm? Sorry, I haven’t seen her.”
“Really are you sure?” you prompted Natasha. Who only gave you a nod of confirmation in return. “Well, if you spot her, you won’t be able to miss her... she’s beautiful, inside and out. Got stunning, sort red hair. Almost like its pure love growing from her. A husky voice, that sounds better than any music, that has- Or will ever be played. Eyes greener than grass in the summer, they sparkle just like the sun shines off of snowflakes.”
Natasha turned around to wrap her arms around your neck, watching you intently as you continued, “She’s got a body to absolutely die for. But still, to this day, I have never seen her look better than when she wears one of my hoodies, that go down to her mid-thigh. Lucious, full lips, that tell me they love me, with every chance they get-”
If Natasha hadn’t cut you off, you could have continued for hours. Just describing Natasha, telling her how much you love her.
“Do you really think that much of me?” Natasha asked in a small voice. Hardly believing that anyone, let alone you, think of her so highly.
“I do. That and so much more. I could go on forever.”
At this, tears began welling up in her eyes. She moved to lean her head back so that her mascara wouldn’t run.
“Oh, no, baby. Did I say something wrong?” you rushed out.
“No.” She shook her head with a sniffle. Turning to look back at you, the tears subsiding, as she wiped underneath her eyes. “You didn’t say anything wrong. I just love you. So much.”
“I love you so much, too, baby.”
Natasha smiled that beautiful smile at you. Kissing you once on the lips, before, before you both made your way back to the still booming office party.
***
Not even a week later, you were staying at a lodge in the middle of nowhere, along with your friends, to celebrate Hanukkah for the long weekend.
You should be relaxing, eating some delicious food. Or spending some time with your girlfriend. But no! Here you were, chasing your friend around the lodge, frost coated grass crunching underfoot, as you did.
“God damn, he’s a fast fucker,” you panted, holding onto your bent knees, as you sucked in deep breaths.
“Why are you chasing Pietro, now?” Looking over your shoulder, you saw Natasha walking your way.
“No reason.”
“Aha, I’m sure gonna believe that.”
Hoping to distract her by changing the topic, you asked, “What are you doing out here, anyway?”
“I came to get you,” she said, wrapping her arms around your shoulders, pressing a kiss to your lips, “There’s been a blizzard warning, it’s supposed to hit within the next couple days.”
“So you came out to get me now?” you asked, raising your eyebrow at the woman.
Natasha nodded her head, giving you a few more kisses, “And dinners almost ready.”
You hummed. “I think there are more reasons than that.”
“What? Can’t I miss my girlfriend?”
“Of course you can,” you cooed, leaning in to give her a long kiss. That is before:
“Hey, losers! Food’s ready!” Pietro called.
“I’m going to kill him.”
“I’ll help.”
***
“Hey, Y/N?”
“Yeah, Steve? What’s up?” you asked looking up from the book you were reading. Noting that he was clad in his winter clothing, still covered in flakes of snow.
“Have you seen Natasha?”
“No.” You shook your head. “I haven't seen her since this morning. Maybe Wanda knows where she is.”
“No,” he told you, “I mean, have you seen Natasha?”
“What is she doing?”
Steve nodded behind him, towards the open bedroom door, wanting you to follow him, “Come on, I’ll show you.”
You followed Steve throughout the homely, snow-capped lodge, wondering what Natasha could be doing, for Steve to come to fetch you. You were stood in the living room doorway when you saw exactly what Steve was talking about.
Huddled around the coffee table were Carol and Wanda, watching something intently, as Bucky packed up the first aid kit. And lastly, your beautiful, red-headed girlfriend, petting a slow blinking dove, with a bandaged wing, on its small head.
“What the fuck?” you ashed the room, drawing everyone's attention to yourself.
“We saved a bird, baby,” Natasha beamed at you.
“Yeah, I see that.” You took a step closer to the scene. “I thought you were scared of birds?”
“Not when they need help, I’m not.”
“You are amazing.” You smiled at her. “But, how? I mean it’s almost blizzarding out there.”
“We heard it calling for help, so we sent Steve out to get it,” Wanda explained.
“Right... so, I guess we’re taking care of a bird then.”
“Got the box!” Pietro announced, jogging into the room, with a shoebox in hand.
“Hey, maybe we should call it ‘Nike’?” Steve suggested beside you.
You scrunched your eyebrows in confusion. “Like the Greek Goddess?”
“No. Like the shoes.” He pointed at the brand covering the box the dove was now settled in.
“My way is so much cooler.”
***
“I know not of what we’re doing, or why we’re doing it. All I do know is that we’re gonna set a candle on fire!” you said walking up to the small crowd, that is your friends, surrounding the menorah.
“Well, there is a story behind it,” Wanda said, “But pretty much, yeah.”
“Y/N, we told you the story. Remember?” Natasha asked.
“Oh! The oil story.”
“There you go. Your so smart,” Pietro sassed you.
Pointing at the lit menorah, never once taking your eyes off of the man in front of you, “Those are some brave words, from a man in flam distance.”
“Okay, you are not allowed to go within three feet of the menorah, ever again,” Natasha told you, as she pushed you away from the candles.
“Awww!”
***
Later that night, you watched as Natasha undressed and changed into her sleep clothes (A pair of short shorts, that should be classed as underwear more than shorts. And an oversized, graphic t-shirt that she stole from you).
“Hey, babe?”
“Yeah?”
“You wanna do the dance with no pants?” You smirked at her.
“... why am I with you?”
“So, is that a... n-?”
“Yes. That’s a yes. Take your pants off,” Natasha ordered, before straddling your laughing body.
Rough translation of Miracle Queen dialogue (sorry if I missed something).
The ep starts with Marinette saying that one Has to always be ready
Then Hawkmoth gives Chloe the miraculous box and orders her to use it “reasonably”
Then Chloe orders the wasps to sting everyone
Marinette monoluges offscreen while ppl get stung about love and sacrifice, and finding your own destiny (I kind of do not like the sudden narration they introduced in the finale)
Marinette pulls away from Luka and says she doesn’t know why she acted like that. He asks if she’s okay and she says yes, thank you. Then she asks if he has found the perfect melody. He says yes and asks if she wants to listen. Marinette hesitates, and Luka asks if she’s thinking about Adrien.
Then the wasps come, Luka protects Marinette, she cries “oh no not them again”, Tikki time to hide, and then she transforms and jumps into the river.
Adrien pushes Kagami away and babbles “no, yes, no”. He thought things would be different (either he thinks about her “not like that” or he thought he would feel different about kissing her).
Kagami asks if he doesn’t feel good in her company, and he says that he feels good, but “it seems he’s not ready”. Kagami asks when will he be ready and when he doesn’t answer she says his hesitance hurts her. Then the wasps come. Kagami cries “No” and pushes him out of the way.
Adrien runs [and apparently Andree the ice cream man now knows Chat’s identity, because Adrien jumps into the river BEFORE the bridge xD] and transforms
Chloe: Ppl of Paris, listen to the first order of the Miracle Queen. And then she outs other miraculous holders (HOLY CRAP) – she says that previous miraculous holders should come to her – and only those who have wielded a miraculous come! [“talisman” is apparently a miraculous in Ukrainian dub]
 ***
Hawkmoth: you won’t hide anything from me
Then Chloe comments on who comes – “nerd Max”, pseudo reporter, dj tupac. What did Ladybug think choosing you?! Ah, and Kim, I could have expected that.
Luka joins them. Chloe: I don’t know him but he must take his clothes from a dumster (trashy clothes)
Kagami comes. Chloe: Oh, no, not her. This is a ridiculous choice. Simply ridiculous. But oh well, take your miraculouses.
Nino and Kagami do not take a miraculous. Hawkmoth is surprised – “why won’t they take a miraculous”? Chloe: ah, prolly they were stupid and lost their miraculous.
Hawkmoth: they lost them or someone else has them (spoiler alert – they’re not – Master Fu has turtle, LB has dragon)
Chloe orders those who has the miraculous to transform, then says they’re her royal guard now. “Ladybug, Chat Noir, I will use your armor/weapon to destroy you. You will regret you didn’t want me anymore.”
 ***
Hawkmoth joins Mayura on the roof. “It’s time to deal with the old fool”.
Mayura: faints.
Hawkmoth: Mayura.
Mayura: I’m fine lol
Hawkmoth: I never wanted this to be part of my plan. I’m sorry, but I need you again.
Mayura: don’t guilt yourself. From the first day I knew I’d do anything for you [WHAAAAA???] She summons the sentimonster. They tell it to destroy the shield.
 ***
LB and CN meet under water. CN asks who has the dragon miraculous now, but LB says she didn’t give it to anyone yet.
LB: Master FU is missing, I’m sure something bad happened to him.
CN: checks, UR right LB, Hawkmoth has Fu trapped and he has the miraculouses. That’s a catastrophe
LB: That’s my fault. I didn’t detransform when I went to him. Cry cry
CN: Hey, we need to get to master Fu, before the sentimonster ruins the shield. That’s something only Ladybug can do
LB: hugs him. Thank you Chat, you always have help me
CN: always LB
LB: already has a plan. First we go after Miracle Queen to get other holders out of her control, then we go after Mayura and Hawkmoth to free master Fu. But first we need to deal with the wasps, if they sting us, all is over.
CN: we’ll do what we can
LB: we can do more! activates dragon miraculous
CN: no, it’s dangerous, you’ve already used the water power
LB: we have no choice
Longg: I’m ready to fight Ladybug!
They get out of water, drop the water power, LB joins dragon and ladybug, then summons water dragon to push away the wasps.
Chloe: Ladybug!
LB: It’s Dragonbug for you!
 ***
Hawkmoth: More power won’t help you. In a few moments the shield will be down and I will make the guardian to tell me your identities.
Master fu: Don’t listen to him. You are strong enough to deal with this. Just work together.
Chat and LB: we can do this. As always.
CN to HM: you don’t scare us. We’re a team.
LB: it’s not your lucky day, Hawkmoth.
HM: Time to act my Queen
Chloe: Fight them my minions
LB: Snake is the most dangerous. Take care of him Chat
Chat holds him still.
LN: seems like you’re locked, but I’m not. Takes away Luka’s bracelet. [SMART GIRL]
Chloe: loser
LB: Chat Noir, your turn. Throws him the snake miraculous.
Chat: Sass, Plagg, merge!
Chat: Dragonbug, it’s an illusion.
Kim:  makes LB’s yoyo useless.
LB: No. Wasps: sting sting
Chat: second chance. Dragonbug, it’s a mirage. Second chance [You get it now, right?]
Chat: Dragonbug, a hole – there!
Chloe: Haha, pitiful. You really think I- gets the frog in da face. Puff the wasps go.
LB: Long, Tikki, divide.
CN: Sass, Plagg, divide.
LB: Time to deevilize. Bbye butterfly
 ***
CN: See, it’s not your day, Hawkmoth
Hawkmoth: AHA
LB: Hawkmoth is our enemy, Chloe. We can’t allow him to have the miraculous box.
Chloe: I won’t talk to you. How many times have I asked you for my miraculous, huh? Hawkmoth is not my enemy, but yours. And the miraculous box is MINE!
LB: Chloe, don’t do this.
Chloe: Watch me, I’m gonna become the mightiest miraculous holder in the history.
HM: Hahaha, I don’t need more proof. I knew you were one of us, Chloe Bourgeois.
Chloe: Hahaha, what ru waiting for, transform me now!
Kwamis: You don’t know our names. And you haven’t said the right words either. And you could ask nicely.
Chloe: I’m your queen. Miracle Queen. I order you to tell me what I have to do next!
Hawkmoth: You can’t do anything. I already won. The shield will fall and the guardian will be in my hands. Your friends won’t help you. You’re alone now. Check mate, Ladybug!
LB: I have one more move, Hawkmoth. Lucky Charm! A charm? What am I supposed to do with it?
HM: Hahahaha, you won’t do anything, my plan is perfect. You can’t stop me.
LB: I don’t have any ideas.
CN: Think, you can do everything!
LB: Sorry, I don’t know what to do. I put mastrer Fu in this position.
CN:  Ladybug, no.
LB: It’s because of me Hawkmoth took the miraculous box. I’m the worst Ladybug ever.
Fu: Ladybug, you’re the best miraculous holder I’ve ever met. Yes, you’ve made a mistake. But you fixed it with your actions.
LB: But I don’t know what to do, Master
Fu: You have all the keys and you will become the greatest guardian.
HM: WHAT?
Kwamis: Master, No! Don’t do this!
Fu: I renounce the miraculous box and declare Ladybug the next guardian!
HM: No!
Chloe: No! That’s my box, mine! I’m the guardian, I’m the Queen. Hawkmoth, do something!
HM:  I’m disappointed. (runs away with Mayura)
CN: I will go after them, you go after the box.
LB: Sorry, Chloe, but this belongs to me.
Chloe: I don’t need your stupid miraculous. You’ll see, and Paris will see. I’m going to leave for New York with my mom, and I’m going to be the only owner of the comb. Without you and your stupid losers you call friends.
LB: Sorry, Chloe, but I can’t let you do that.
Chloe: oh yeah? Well, I don’t like you anymore Ladybug. You don’t deserve to breathe the same air as me!
CN: Sorry, I couldn’t find them
 ***
LB: Master Fu, Master Fu, wake up!
Gabriel: Oh, my Nathalie. I’m so sorry. I lost again and you used up all your strength. For nothing.
Nathalie: No, not for nothing, the previous guardian had the miraculous book deciphered, now we can fix the peacock miraculous.
 ***
LB: Master Fu?
Fu: these are nice costumes. Who are you?
CN: he lost his memory?
Wayzz: That’s the fate of guardians once they renounce the box. All their personal memories were kept in the miraculous.
LB: It’s okay, we’re your friends, sir.
Fu: Ah, nice to meet you!
Wayzz: Good luck, Master.
CN: Wait, you haven’t cast the cure yet!
LB: Miraculous Ladybug! Master Fu do you remember me now?
Fu: Sorry to disappoint, miss, but I see you for the first time in my life.
CN: The thing that happened to him was because of Chloe.
LB: My cure didn’t change anything.
Fu: It’s a shame you threw away such a nice charm, I’d use it for my key. Here.
 ***
Chloe: Mom, I expect Jean Something to finish packing our suitcases, we’re leaving now! Wha?
Andre: Your mom changed her mind.
Audrey: It was a mistake, but everyone makes mistakes sometimes.
Andre: Ah, my queen!
Chloe: Yuk, that’s disgusting. I order you to fight again!
 ***
Marinette reading Fu’s letter: When we grow up, we find out that life doesn’t always give us what we expected. I’d like to tell you everything myself, but if you’re reading this, it means I’ve lost my memory. You don’t have to be scared or sad, as I’ve learned at the beginning of my way loss is just a part of life. But it’s not important that life doesn’t give us what we expect. Because the biggest gift is the life itself.
 ***
Fu: I see you for the first time, but my heart beats so quick as if I’ve always known you.
Marianne: You should always believe your heart [Gee, I wonder what LB would say to that…]
Marinette: A gift, for the travel.
Fu: Thank you, miss. I will never forget you.
 ***
At the bank, Fu’s voice: Even if life doesn’t give us what we expect, the biggest gift is life itself.
Luka: You okay?
Marinette: How’s that melody? Can I listen to it?
Luka: You want to listen?
Marinette: Mhm.
 ***
Gabriel holding the peacock miraculous in a gloved hand: Just as good as new.
THE END
Hope you enjoyed it!
Remoras Full Chapter XVII: Starry Night
What a wonderful thing humanity was! Such a grounded reality, where a human could look down and see dirt. Upward, that same human could see the sky. Beautiful and mystifying, day and night. Many sights awaited humanity, and even without sight, there was always something new to learn just around the corner.
That was why I was so glad to be human.
Many a day was spent on two legs, one foot in front of the other and a prayer every now and then. Such steps brought me to places with dirt roads, brick roads, sand, and roads with black, pressed stone and strange objects scattered around. Every road, every pathway, had such interesting things to see. Strange and beautiful sights to learn more about; tall brick and stone buildings. Straw and wood, ceramic tiles. Little signs written in languages I didn’t know, but would loved to have learned. Yet I never did. I continued to walk.
Each place I passed through had their own smells, aromas. Foul and sweet scents alike. I passed through gardens with beautiful shapes of petaled plants in colors I didn’t know the names of. Bright and dim alike, twists and turns. Little creatures which flew and crawled onto those plants. Moments would pass where I wondered if I could learn to be one of those little creatures, if I wasn’t already human. Learning all I could about what I was, that brought me greater fulfillment than anything else I took in.
Where I found myself was in a land of layered frost and soft, dew-filled grass. There were little bodies of water scattered about and the silhouette of a shimmering star in the sky. Deep breaths escaped from my mouth, and the rigid air drew its way in.
“Amen,” I whisked the word into the air once the image of a long, metallic structure came into view. Its doors were open and my sense of wonder took over as one step over the other, I found my way inside.
One step, then the next. That same process, repeated, until I found a room in which humans dwelt. My eyes orbited those still shapes in front of me, those same shapes that were so similar, and yet different to mine. Sprawled out, their eyes closed, and little movement or sound save for faint hints of breathing. I didn’t know what they were doing, but I wanted to learn.
One human – Aurora, (or Eos, but not Dawn, as I came to know her), was the first to open her eyes. I didn’t learn what she and the other two humans were up to. For all I knew, they could have been praying, just as I did, only in longer bursts.
Aurora taught me some wonderful things about being a human. There was still much more to learn, and I felt that the knowledge and experiences I gained was only a fraction of a series of other fractions of a whole when it came to human experience. Each new observation granted me a gift, and I couldn’t await for the next gift to arrive.
Which it did, in the form of a brave soul in the shape of someone with a similar stature as myself. She called herself “Tigershark,” a peculiar name, but as far as names went, all came with their own interesting origin. I was no exception.
If I had to have a theory on humans and names, it was that I had a name because people had to have a name. Like some prerequisite for existing. Whether one gives it to another, or one gives it to themselves, it appeared it was a necessary application. But then, the possibility of meeting someone without a name was a fascinating thought as well.
As for when that day would come, I didn’t know. Where I found myself a little after meeting Tigershark was not the spot I had stayed in for days, and instead was a place called a ‘diner’.
Everyone I knew from the Aurora Borealis Bandits was there, having wonderful conversations with one another. Aurora B herself, was slouched over her seat and her legs were up on top of the table. She and a few of her friends, (I believe their names were Alan, Ivan? Isaac? Ismark? Oh, there I was, forgetting names so soon even though I knew the importance of a name. The third one was Ezmeralda, that I knew) were huddled together and singing songs in unison. Aurora strummed on a little ukulele whilst doing so.
“Mama, just killed a maaaan –” Aurora started.
“– Mama, we all go to hell,” the rest sang after her, then she strummed real hard on her ukulele.
“Put a gun up to his head, pulled the trigger now he’s de-e-a-d,” she continued. Then more frantic strumming. I stood up and walked over so I could observe the others.
Aside from Aurora, her crew, and Tigershark, the others who occupied the diner were unknown variables. Earlier, when there was a great commotion outside, I caught a glimpse of the new faces: one stood tall and muscular beside the train with Tigershark. Another was shorter and held a knife. The last was someone else, similar to the first person in terms of size and shape, and held a long gun in her arms, aimed at one of those fascinating creatures.
At the moment, she sat at the far end of the diner, slumped over with her head rested on her arms. The purpose of doing so eluded me. There were few traits I could infer from her, but I was excited to learn more, as there was always something to learn from each human I met.
I tugged at her sleeve. She looked over and had a confused or curious look about her.
“What? Are you going to ask me if you know me from somewhere? That I look familiar to you?” Her voice was like a low groan, but it didn’t sound bad at all. I smiled and turned my head from one end to the other. For whatever reason she asked me that, I answered her with the only way I knew how.
“Quite the opposite. I find you interesting because you are new and I don’t know you yet,” I closed my eyes as I spoke. “Amen.”
“That’s just as bad. Trust me, it’s better not to know about me,” I believe her reply was also in earnest.
“It will be difficult not to be aware of your existence now that I have seen you, but if what you say is true, then I thank you for teaching me something so fascinating. Amen.”
I walked away and to my side I could see an outline of her, with her head turned, and mouthed the word “what.”
Tigershark was in the kitchen. It was the place where she made food. In time, I would like to be taught. Food was a fascinating thing, and even more so that someone would cook it. I didn’t know why humans ate, but it was a fun enough task every now and then.
One of the new faces had a small sheet of paper and a pen. She was the short one I spotted with the knife. Just a little taller in stature than me, and her hair was wavy green. When she spoke, she didn’t really sound very interested in the questions she asked. I found that most interesting.
“What will you be having?” She asked Aurora.
Aurora slammed her cup on the table and laughed herself into a wild fit.
“Another beer, for one! And this is a diner, right? Then how about some biscuits and grits? Sausage? Pancakes? I want it all!”
Those words I didn’t know, but in the context of the setting, I assumed they were food.
“Yeah. Sure. Just so you know, since there’s not a price for anything, you’ll be paying for the meal with the money you guys stole from us,” she informed them.
“What are you doing?” I asked her. She turned to me and looked startled. Frightened, even.
“I’m just taking people’s orders. Can I take yours?” She explained, and then I understood.
“So you’re part of her crew, too? And you wish to serve her?” I sought to confirm. However, her reaction was one that most surprised me; she leaned her head back and gave a look as if I said something most foul.
“No, if I were to want to serve anyone, it would be Re – forget it.” She walked off in a huff. Aurora called after her.
“Yeah, how ‘bout it, Demetria? Why don’t you ditch that loser Remora and join our crew? You’d have much more fun with us! It’d be more fulfilling, too!”
I looked over to the one who had ‘taken their orders’. Who Aurora called ‘Demetria’. She lowered her head and I heard her mutter something like “I just want to do my job.”
For the time being, I let her be. After all, there was one other who I felt compelled to introduce myself to.
At a booth right next to Aurora sat the tall strong lady who threw punches. I didn’t have to walk at all to interact with her.
“Y’know, now that you aren’t robbing from us, you ain’t half bad!” Her voice boomed and I swore when she smiled that I could see all of her teeth in full view. I didn’t quite know what it was humans needed teeth for, but the same could be said for any other creature. Why did some have tails? Why did a tree have limbs? There were little things that I might have been best not knowing.
“You either, Sunny! Speaking of, I’d be down for a fight sometime!” Aurora replied. “I’d love to see which of us is stronger!”
Rather than stand in place and ponder such a thing, I went for the option which would yield the most immediate answer: I crawled up on the booth and waved my hand in front of the woman’s face. She leaned back and let out a gasp. For what reason, I didn’t know.
Then, her apparent surprise turned to a smile.
“Oh hey! You’re Tigershark’s new friend, right? Astro, was it?”
I stared at her. I didn’t know what an ‘Astro’ was.
“No…” I whispered. “It wasn’t Astro. But perhaps it can be.”
“Hey, Astraea, what did I tell you about sneaking up on people like that?” Aurora scolded me.
It pained me to admit that I couldn’t remember if she had told me anything about sneaking up on people. If she did, it was probably something like, “only sneak up on people if you plan on stealing from them.”
I was in a little bit of a daze, as I struggled to remember what it was Aurora taught me, when the warm glow of Sunny’s voice pulled me away from my pondering.
“Aha! Astraea, right?” She snapped her fingers as she smiled her bright smile.
“Yes,” I looked down and smiled. “That is what I am called. Because as a human, I must have a name.”
What was but a simple statement on my part caused her to let out a chuckle, then a hiccup.
“Yeah, I suppose that’s how it works, huh?” She replied.
“And you? You are Sunny?”
“I am! Just a big ol’ sunflower!”
I nodded. “So you are a human sunflower. Interesting.”
I crawled back down. I could have stood in place and watched Sunny and Aurora have fun. I was already well aware that as soon as Aurora agreed to return to the diner, she and Sunny got along quite well and relayed tales of their exploits to each other. Then there was the drinking contests, which made me wonder if the reason people drank liquids was to compete with one another. After, there was the singing.
Rather than find out what fun the two could have next, a weary voice rang through my ears. My ears perked up and I turned to face the owner of said voice.
“You’re Astraea, right?” Demetria called toward me, less in an urgent manner and more of a groan. “Are you Aurora’s daughter?”
I sat down and gave it some thought. Maybe I could have given an answer if I knew the meaning of the word ‘daughter’.
“Maybe I am,” I replied, the words sailed off from my mouth.
Aurora then burst into laughter and slammed her cup back onto the table.
“Yeah!” She declared, and a grin had made its way onto her face. “I wouldn’t be surprised, anyway!”
“Oh, I don’t see the resemblance!” Sunny remarked. “But that’s okay! I’m sure you’re a good mom!”
“Nah! She ain’t my kid!” Aurora waved her hand away.
“Maybe I’m everyone’s daughter…” I considered.
Sunny, with her arm slung over the top of the booth called over to Demetria.
“Say hun, why’d you think Astraea was Aurora’s daughter?”
That too was an answer I was eager to hear.
“Because, Aurora is the Roman equivalent of the Greek goddess Eos, who had many children, one of them being Astraea,” Demetria explained. Then she added, as if an afterthought, “my mom’s big into that stuff so she used to tell me those things against my will.”
“Ha! So that’s your problem, huh? You’re getting fiction and reality mixed up!” Aurora roared her response, then turned back into laughter. But maybe I thought I heard, whether she said it aloud or I imagined it, “then again, crazy how Eos was my birth name.”
“Right. I know what’s fiction. I just thought it was too much of a coincidence,” came Demetria’s reply.
“ORDER’S UP!” Rumbled the thundrous voice of a Tigershark from the vicinity of the kitchen. Demetria got up from her seat and let out a heavy sigh.
“That’s my cue,” she mumbled.
I watched as she headed toward the kitchen. Her head was lowered and it was only for a brief moment when she was almost at her destination that she glanced in the direction of another: the one at the far end who told me that it was better not to know her. But that glance came and went and she lowered her head once more.
“Perhaps fiction can also be reality,” I thought aloud.
“You know what? I’ve thought the same thing at times,” Sunny stated. I caught her fixated on the cup in her hands as she swayed it from one end to the other. “How the past is just a fabrication of reality, and so is the future. But while the present is the closest thing to reality we have, we don’t get to hold onto it for very long.”
Those words...I really did learn something new!
“Amen,” I replied.
“Ha! You’re drunk!” Aurora told Sunny.
“Yes, that I am,” Sunny’s voice in that moment reminded me of my own. She smiled, and her head swayed just like she swayed her cup.
After that mysterious creature ran off, I had no more reason to be outside, and thus, I went back into the train and sat in the spot where I stayed.
It would have been a lie to say I wasn’t at least a little bit curious about what was going on outside, but I was satisfied just to know there was still so much out there to learn. Tigershark was a pleasant surprise, so were those creatures, and so then, what else would I be surprised by?
As it turned out, much. When Aurora returned, she stopped by my spot and informed me of something most grand.
“Just so you know, not that it really affects you, but we’re going back to that diner. It just so happens that no one in my crew knows how to cook –”
“Do you?” I asked.
“– Don’t interrupt me! Anyway, as I was saying, no one in my crew knows how to cook, and that kid, loathe as I am to admit, does. So we’re gonna make her feed us again, even if that means going back to that place
“I wish you the best of luck,” I told her. Just as I often did.
So the train moved once again. Headed toward the place known as a ‘diner’. I didn’t know what that was, but I knew Tigershark came from such a place, and Tigershark may already be there by the time we got there. I became overwhelmed with a feeling of excitement.
Once the train stopped once more and I saw everyone run out, that feeling only grew. Yes, I could stay in the same spot where I always sat, or I could find out what was inside such a place. The answer became clear, and I picked myself up, whispered a little prayer to myself, and put one foot in front of the other.
Soon each step on the metallic surface changed to the soft soil of the outside world. Then, I crossed the threshold once more, through the door of what had been referred to as a ‘diner’. Upon opening the door, the wind invited itself in along with me, and I couldn’t help but be carried with it, a cool chill against my hair. With it, I was gifted with a smile upon my face.
There was a smell in the air, of burnt logs and the aroma of cooked food. Overpowering it was the sound of chatter between the Aurora Borealis Bandits and the one who I came to know as Sunny.
Right behind the table where Aurora and a few members of her crew sat was the one who had pointed that weapon on the poor creature. Just like she would continue to be, her head was on her hands, with the rest of her leaned over the table.
“So the bank manager was all, ‘we’re call the authorities’ and then I shot the phone out of his hand and declared, ‘I’ll be the authority on that one!’ You should’ve seen his face! Ha!” Aurora boasted.
“Oh dear, that reminds me of Ray and I’s third anniversary. We really didn’t expect that mansion to have such high security!” Sunny recalled.
The whole crew laughed along.
“Sunny, you must do something about these guys,” the slumped one groaned. “They’re really quite a bother. Need I remind you they already stole from us?”
“Oh ho ho! I get it! You’re one of those dark and brooding types!” Aurora, rather than Sunny, responded.
“That’s not it. I just don’t like noisy people…”
“You need to get a grip! Live a little! We’re already going to give you guys back your goods, so lighten up!” Aurora smiled ear to ear, something which I hadn’t seen from her in quite some time.
“Ugh…” Growled the serious one.
So far it seemed like no one had noticed me. That wasn’t a problem for me, as I often liked to be the silent observer more than anything else.
Then I spotted Tigershark, who walked over to the subdued dark haired lady.
“What’s wrong?” Tigershark asked her.
“I’m fine. I just don’t like high energy or noisy people, and right now there’s a lot of it. It gets to me. I’ve always been this way. Whenever I’d go to a tavern, I’d try to sit as far away from everyone else. For the most part, it worked, but every so often someone would try to approach me and that was the worst thing,” the woman told Tigershark. It seemed they had a sort of connection.
“Why aren’t you doing that now, then? You can just move seats,” Tigershark told her, and then the woman looked up and looked around.
“I forgot that was an option…” Then she sighed and added, “I think I wanted to give being near others a try, but no, I can’t do it.”
Tigershark moved over and I saw the woman shift in her seat and get up, then walked over to the far end of the room and sat down there. I watched as she went right back to the same position she was in before, as if nothing had changed aside from her placement.
I intended to speak with each new face and learn as much as I could about their lives as humans, but for the time being, I sat and allowed everything to go on. As if nothing would have changed whether I was there or not.
Of course, when Demetria returned with the food Aurora ordered, everyone was well aware of my presence. Well, almost everyone.
I watched as Aurora shoveled food into her mouth. Yes, I saw her chew and swallow, as well. Just as she had taught me so long ago. Amen. Then, Tigershark emerged from out of the kitchen and ran over to me.
“Hey! I didn’t know you’d be here, too, Astraea!” Tigershark’s excitement could be heard through her voice.
I stood back up.
“I am!” I replied, and then she went up to me and put her arms around me. Surprised, I asked her what she was doing.
“It’s a hug!” She told me.
I closed my eyes and smiled.
“I see. How interesting.”
Tigershark let go and a joyous expression remained on her face.
“It’s good to see you again!”
I nodded. “And you. Amen.”
Sunny then turned toward me and she seemed fixed on an earlier subject.
“Say, Astraea? Did your parents name you, or did you give yourself that name?” Sunny inquired.
“Neither. It means ‘starry night’.”
“Oh, like the painting!”
“I’m sorry,” I informed her. “I don’t know what that is.”
“Oh, well, it’s like a drawing, except like...hmm...I don’t know if I’m sober enough to explain.”
I nodded.
“Well, anyway,” the dilemma of explanation appeared to have been mended. “How did you come about such a name?”
Ah. I believed I understood at last.
“The first utterance of such a name…” I closed my eyes as I focused on the recollection. “It must have been about a few thousand years ago. Not my first memory as a human, but early on in my existence. I had wandered into a town late at night, and someone ran up to me and asked what I was doing out so late at night. I didn’t understand what they meant, so I told them, in their language, that I was walking. They then asked who I was, and so I pointed at the night sky. There was an audible gasp, and then they said ‘Astraea’.”
“Wait, hold up –” Aurora leaned forward. “What’s this about thousands of years? I thought you’ve only been around for 18!”
I nodded. “They have not been sequential years.”
Aurora scrunched up her face and shook her head. “Never mind, I think I’m too drunk to understand!”
“Well,” Sunny leaned forward, still interested. “I may be drunk, but I’d like to know what you mean.”
“It’s simple: some years I’ve existed in have been far ahead, while others, far behind. I’ve visited the 19th century, and the 15th, and now I am here.”
“I see! I think if I got to experience years that way, I’d love to make plenty of memories.”
“Do you not?” I wondered. “Isn’t that how it is for humans?”
To my surprise, she shook her head.
“Not for any that I know, no.”
“I see. How do you experience them?”
“Well, let’s say...there’s this year, then the next year is this one, plus one, and I’m there that year, too. As long as I’m still alive next year, anyway. I was here the year before, too.”
Her explanation was intriguing but as a human, I had to abide.
“I see. Then the next year for you will be the next year for me as well.”
“Cool!” She made her fingers into a weird shape. Like a sideways L. “Can’t wait!”
But those words made no sense. She would have to wait. As would I if I were to experience life the way any other human did.
Tigershark then blinked and looked over.
“Hey, is Demetria okay?” She asked us all. Or maybe just Sunny. For I knew that I had no answer to her question.
Sunny looked over as well, but just like Demetria earlier with that dark haired woman, it was more of a quick glance.
“I don’t know, kiddo,” she told Tigershark. “She’s just been like that since she woke up. Why don’t you try asking her yourself?”
“OK!” Tigershark grinned and ran over to the table where Demetria had chosen to sit at. I followed Tigershark as I wished to learn more as well.
She sat in much the same way that the other one at the opposite end sat; except in Demetria’s case, her face was buried into her arms, so all that could be seen of her head was her hair.
“Hello! Earth to Demetria!” Tigershark leaned in close and yelled when she could have just whispered.
“She is already on Earth, along with us,” I informed Tigershark.
“No, it’s an expression!” Tigershark corrected me.
“A smile is an expression. So is a frown.”
“That’s just what people call it! I don’t know why, either!”
Demetria lifted her head just a little.
“What do you guys want?” She asked in that same weary voice I heard from her earlier. “No one wants to order anything right now, do they? Can’t I take a break?”
“Of course, but I’m worried about you,” Tigershark replied.
“Why? What do you have to worry about? You’re just a kid.”
Tigershark puffed up her cheeks and scowled. Because of the image, I wanted to laugh, but I didn’t.
“So what? Tell me what’s wrong!”
Demetria set her head back down and although muffled, I heard her say:
“Isn’t it obvious? I wanted to help out, and I thought I was doing a good job, too, but…”
“I can’t hear you,” Tigershark told her.
To that, Demetria shifted her head to the side, so that one eye and half of her nose poked through.
“What does it matter? Can’t I be a burden in peace?”
“If I don’t get to, neither do you,” Tigershark crossed her arms as she gave her response.
That made Demetria scowl as well.
“Look, it was all going fine until I fainted. All because I saw something that no one else saw, probably because it wasn’t there. No, it wasn’t just that. I freaked out when I shouldn’t have. I made a fool of myself like I always do and let Remora down and because of that, Sunny had to carry me back.”
“Remora?” I asked. I heard that word once before, from Aurora, but I didn’t ask then.
Tigershark pointed over to the dark haired woman at the other end of the diner.
“She’s the one way over there!” Tigershark told me. “She’s not bad, but a little weird sometimes.”
I nodded. So that was the name assigned to her. Remora.
“Do you think she’s mad at you?” Tigershark asked Demetria.
“Wouldn’t blame her if she was,” Demetria muttered.
“I’ll go ask her!”
“Don’t do that,” Demetria told Tigershark. But by then, Tigershark had already walked off.
“Damn it,” she shook her head. “I was hoping not to be an embarrassment for at least a little while.”
I didn’t know what that meant, but I decided to follow Tigershark. Before I made it very far, I heard Demetria say.
“Just what are you, really?”
I didn’t know if it was addressed to me or another. Since I didn’t know for sure, I chose not to answer.
Although Tigershark was further ahead than me, I heard the exchange before I could make it over. As quiet or loud as it was, noise carries far. Like the creak of a floorboard, or the howls of the wind.
“Demetria thinks you’re mad at her,” Tigershark initiated the conversation.
“Why would she think that? It’s true she can be annoying sometimes, as well as confusing, but she’s not bad enough to warrant anger,” Remora’s voice had hints of confusion, as well.
“Because she fainted!”
“I’m not mad. I just think she should have prepared better.”
“She said she saw something that no one else saw, too!”
“Yes, I didn’t see what she described. I’m not sure what that was about, either. One possible explanation could be that the extreme temperatures made her hallucinate, but other strange things have been happening. Like those creatures. So I don’t want to dismiss her claims outright unless I know for sure that it was nothing.”
“So you mean...um…?” Tigershark didn’t seem to understand. Indeed, there were a few things I didn’t as well. Few, or many.
“I’m frustrated that I don’t fully understand, but I’m not mad. That’s all.”
“What about you?” Tigershark asked, and I saw her hands balled into fists, as if the answer was of an urgent matter.
“What do you mean?” Answered Remora. Wise answer, indeed.
“Are you good? You look down, too!”
“I’m just the same as I always am. I just look this way when I sit, I guess.”
“Oh yeah! That’s true!”
Tigershark then ran toward me.
“Good news, Astraea! Remora said she’s not mad!”
“Yes, I heard,” I let her know.
“Let’s go tell Demetria!”
We headed back. Lucky for us, Demetria hadn’t moved at all from where she sat.
“Remora told me she’s not mad!” Tigershark delivered the news.
Demetria lifted her head and sat up. She still didn’t look too happy for what should have been great news. Her eyes were half open and she didn’t smile.
“Thanks, but I can’t help but feel like I let her down,” she said at last.
“You didn’t,” I assured her. For that, I was certain.
“How do you figure?” She asked me.
“Because you didn’t pick her up. You first have to lift someone up in order to let them down.”
Demetria put her palm up to her face and shook her head.
“I don’t know why I bothered,” she groaned. Then, it looked like a struggle to do so, but she managed something of a smile. “Still, if anyone’s going to lift anyone up, I’d want it to be her lifting me.”
“Yay! You’re dumb again!” Tigershark cheered. “Er...I mean funny!”
“What?!” Demetria spat out. “Whatever, at this point I’ll take it.”
“I like you more when you say silly things!”
“I’m not really trying most of the time, it just comes out that way.”
Then, all three of us looked around. Well, I looked around because the other two were.
“By the way, where did Remora go?” Demetria asked.
“Probably back to her room,” Tigershark answered. “She said she doesn’t really it when it’s noisy.”
“I see. So some people don’t like it when there’s a lot of noise,” I noted. As long as there was more to learn in my current setting, I had no reason to depart.
“Can’t say I blame her,” Demetria said as well. “If I didn’t have to be out here as part of my job, I’d probably be in my room right now with my headphones in and chilling to some orchestral music.”
“By the way, what did you see earlier?” Tigershark asked Demetria. In response, Demetria’s eyes widened and she opened her mouth, but then shook her head.
“It doesn’t really matter. There probably wasn’t anything there.”
For what it was worth, I felt a few words of encouragement come to me, and I just had to dispense them.
“Don’t worry, I believe you saw something,” I told her.
“You do?”
“Yes,” I closed my eyes and smiled. “Because I don’t know everything that humans are capable of seeing.”
“...How do I keep falling for this?”
I walked about the room. There was still much more to take in. Few details of the diner stuck to me. Perhaps I could focus once more on the fog on the windows, how the glass had cracks in a few places. Or how the ceiling lamps which hung above each table were covered in cobwebs. There was also the smoothness of the floor, and how clean everything looked, despite the mess underneath Aurora’s table, as well as a few spots underneath other tables.
But no. Despite how fascinating it all was, I just couldn’t focus on what made it what it was. So I elected once more to sit in the middle of the room.
After a while of commotion, Aurora and her gang decided it was time to head off. I heard, but I dare not move. During the time when everyone had their fun, I had given some thought to a few things.
“Hey, aren’t you coming with us?” Aurora called.
I shook my head.
“I appreciate all that I have experienced with you guys, but I feel that I must venture elsewhere in order to learn more.”
“Fine by me, but I’ll sure miss having a good luck charm around!”
Those were her parting words. As for me…
I was ready to walk out the door and see where my own two feet would take me, but I was stopped by Sunny.
“Are you sure you want to go out there right now? It’s pretty cold out. Plus you never know when a blizzard might hit.”
I smiled.
“As long as I continue to pray and move one step in front of the other, I will be fine. Amen.”
Demetria was also next to Sunny and she asked me a question as well:
“Are you religious or something? What’s with always saying ‘amen’?”
Ah. Something which I could answer.
“My first memory as a human was seeing someone praying. I didn’t know why they did it, but it looked fun. After they said their prayer, they said ‘amen’. So, I figured that must be something humans do.”
“Not really. I mean, certain people do that, but they don’t do it like you do. Do you believe in a god or something?”
“I know no god,” nor did I know what one was.
“Well, maybe it’s better that way, I guess,” Demetria shrugged.
“Why is that?”
Demetria didn’t seem to have a good answer, but then said, “well, I guess it’s fine either way. Besides, you already share the same name as a goddess.”
“I don’t know what that is, either. Are those human things?”
“Err…” Again, Demetria struggled. “In a way? Also, why do you keep saying ‘human’ so much?”
“Because I am one,” I answered. “Amen.”
She shook her head. “For some reason, I’m not really sure about that one…”
Sunny put her finger on her chin and looked up, then said at last:
“Whatever you are, I still think you should stay the night here. Maybe the weather will be better tomorrow?”
Yes. That might have been wise. Or it may not have been. I didn’t know what good or bad weather was. I only saw different weather. Rain, sun, hail, snow, wind. Such nice scenery they produced, but I didn’t see what made them different from one another aside from aesthetic. Still, I put my hands together and decided to pray for my answer.
After a few seconds of silence, I said “amen” and then told her:
“It’s been decided. I must be fated to stay for tonight.”
“Good! I think that’s for the best!” Sunny grinned. Demetria, however…
“Where would she even sleep? I don’t want her in my room.”
Ah, a mysterious word.
“What is sleep?” I asked them.
“I ask myself the same question sometimes,” Sunny laughed.
“Tell me about it,” Demetria added. “Well, g’night. I’m gonna enjoy the silence of my room.”
So I was left alone with Sunny. Tigershark was somewhere. Not where I was. Maybe in another room.
“Where is Tigershark?” I asked Sunny.
“Oh, she’s probably with Remora. They share a room together,” she explained to me.
“I see.”
“As for you, you can stay the night with me, if you want. We’ve got a big bedroom upstairs.”
“There are stairs?” I pondered. Yes. I knew what those were.
“Yeah, c’mon! Follow me!”
So I did, and through a door in the back of the diner was a hallway. Through that hallway, there was a couple of chairs, as well as a desk. But as I looked around, I was at a crossroads.
“Aren’t you coming?” Sunny asked, and I looked over. She had chosen the path on the left.
On the far end of that path was a flight of stairs. Sunny opened a hatch on the ceiling, and then we ascended. Where we emerged was a large room with lots of objects all around the room. Boxes and dresser drawers, shapes of several things covered up by sheets and curtains. There was a dim glow to the room, and on a small dresser was a lamp. When I looked ahead back to those covered objects, I thought I caught a glimpse of darkness in the distance.
Next to the lamp was a thing called a bed, with four stakes on each end and a curtain over it. I remembered what a bed was because Aurora was in one when I met her. Although the purpose of such a thing eluded me.
“Here,” Sunny pulled out an object from underneath the bed: it looked like a caterpillar made of cloth, with a zipper in the middle.
“What is that?” I asked her.
“A sleeping bag,” she told me.
I still didn’t understand what the bag did.
“Can I sit on it?” I asked.
“Uh, sure? Go ahead. Anyway, good night.”
“That it is,” I agreed.
Sunny went into the bed and she laid down, a ritual which I never quite understood, other than it must have been a human thing.
“I may wander around,” I let Sunny know, just in case it were to happen. She might have wanted me to stay put, but I didn’t know if I had it in me to do so.
“Mm. Got some kind of wanderlust?” Her voice seemed to soften as she spoke.
I didn’t know how to answer. That was fine as well.
True to the information I gave her, after an unknown amount of time, I departed from Sunny and made my way back down the stairs. The halls had darkened. Each room I passed, I tried to open the door. One of the doors would not open, as if a spell had been put upon it. But, on the right end of the hallway was a door which did open, as doors often did.
Inside was Tigershark in a ‘sleeping bag’ as Sunny called it. Beside her was a bed, somewhat less fancy, but no less large, and the occupant was Remora. Both of the two had their eyes closed.
“I wonder what they are doing. Perhaps they are praying,” I whispered into the still air of the room. “Amen.”
I walked a few steps closer and sat down next to Tigershark. There was a faint sound of breaths. Inhale, then exhale. As for her face, I leaned my head closer to it until my gaze was directly over her. My eyes were wide and full of wonder. I knew patience. I knew silence. But I didn’t know what she was doing, so I kept my position and waited for her to tell me.
Much time passed yet, and at last, her eyes opened. Wide as well, and she let out a gasp, then sat up.
“Oh, it’s just you, Astraea,” Tigershark spoke through a strange exhalation as she made patting motions against her mouth. “I had a dream there was a big scary monster staring at me, but now I’m not really sure what it looked like.”
I tilted my head ever so slight.
“Dream?” I asked. “What is that?”
“You know, like when you sleep and things happen, but not really,” she explained.
“I see.” Although I still had yet to know what sleep was.
“Anyway, what are you doing here? I thought you would have left with those bad guys.”
I shook my head. “I was asked to stay. So I am here.”
“Oh, okay. And what were you doing next to me?”
“I was wondering what you were doing,” I answered.
“I was just sleeping.”
Before I could ask what that was, I heard a shift in the bed next to me, then a low growl.
“What are you doing in here?” Spoke the voice, and I looked up. Remora sat up with a gun pointed at me.
“I was watching Tigershark sleep,” I told her.
“Get out. Now.”
I nodded and obliged as I departed the room. Behind me, I could hear a conversation between Tigershark and Remora play out:
“What was that for?!”
“That thing could have been dangerous.”
“She’s not! She’s my friend! She just got curious! She wouldn’t hurt anyone!”
“You don’t know that. You need to be more cautious.”
While I found the conversation interesting, I didn’t have much of a comment for it. Danger...I knew what that meant, or at least what it entailed. Without any example of it, however, all I could say was that danger was unknown to me.
I decided to take my stroll back up the stairs and I sat until dawn. If there was anything I was disappointed by, it was not having the concept of ‘sleep’ explained to me.
Aurora, Eos. No. Neither of those.
Dawn arrived. Such a brightness leaked through every corner of the room which I occupied, alongside Sunny. The sun and the dawn, how one always followed the other, but in which order, I wasn’t sure of.
Rather than wait for Sunny, I descended the stairs on my own. I’ve come to understand that at times, humans had a routine which they practiced depending on the time of day. Through that hall, into the middle path which once I opened the door at the end of it, I would be brought back into the diner. Before I opened the door, or before I chose to, I heard the voices of Demetria and Remora from the other side.
“I’m telling you, there’s something off about her! I don’t know what, but I just can’t shake this feeling!” Demetria’s tone of voice was as if she were descending a mountain.
“Is this a concern for you, or is this just an excuse to talk to me?” Remora asked.
“Does it matter?”
“Well, even if it’s nothing, I have to admit, seeing her in my room last night disturbed me.”
“Whoa, really?”
I opened the door at last and before I looked in the direction of the two, I studied the floor. Their pattern, like a few of the windows; little cracks, either for decoration, or from being worn down. I wondered what it was about it that made it look so clean in spite of that. Without an answer, I looked back up and toward them, and waved.
“Hello, you two,” I greeted, the frost in my voice spread throughout the room.
Remora got up and reached into her pocket. She pulled something out of it, some kind of circular object.
“Oh, good idea! Scan her with the thing just like you did with me when I returned from that mansion!”
Remora gave a short nod, then poked the object. After a short interval of time, her face stretched to a look of shock.
“What? What is it?” Demetria asked her.
“It’s...I don’t know,” Remora shook her head.
“What do you mean?!”
“This device is mainly for detecting if someone has been infected with a cosmic entity. However, I don’t detect anything of the sort on this thing called ‘Astraea’. That said...I don’t detect anything else, either.”
“Meaning?”
“She’s not an infected human, so there may not be a threat, but at the same time...I don’t think she’s human. Rather, it’s like there’s nothing in front of me.”
I smiled.
“Perhaps your object does not detect humans?” I suggested.
Remora shook her head.
“It would at least show the shape of...something,” she put the object back into her pocket. “For the time being, you don’t seem to pose a threat.”
“It seems that as a human, you too have much more to learn,” I assured her. “Fret not, for so do I. Amen.”
“Maybe it’s that my device only shows someone or something infected by a cosmic entity, but not the entity itself,” she sounded unsure of herself. Conflicted. That, or stubborn.
“I don’t know what a cosmic entity is,” I told her, then I spun around. “I just know what I have learned.”
“It would be bad news if you were.”
Then Demetria also looked in a bit of a panic.
“I forgot! I gotta sweep and mop the floors! And I haven’t even had breakfast yet! Yikes!”
She ran off and I wished to observe. However, my chance at observation would have to wait, as Tigershark emerged from the back.
“Hey! Good to see you again!” She greeted me.
I turned around.
“Could you tell me what sleep is now?” I asked her.
“Um...it’s like...you lay down and close your eyes and after a while you’re not awake?” She made her attempt at an explanation. It was a good one, yet…
“What is ‘awake’?” I asked next.
“It’s like, what we are right now?” She didn’t seem to grasp the concept well. It would seem I would have to find another to ask at some point.
“Say, what would you like for breakfast?” Tigershark asked me.
“Breakfast?”
“Like, food?”
“Yes. Food is interesting. Do you have anything with apples?”
“Uh...I can make an apple pie? But that takes all day.”
“I can be patient,” I assured her.
There were no visitors throughout the day. No new faces. At one point, Demetria commented on it.
“You know, I’m pretty sure Aurora didn’t return all of our money,” she put her hands on her hips and let out a sigh. Tigershark, right behind her, said instead:
“Yeah, but she paid for her food and drinks! That still means we made money!”
“If we didn’t get all of our stuff back, I’m pretty sure that’s a loss for us,” Demetria countered.
Ah, I wondered about Aurora and her gang, myself. Wondered what they were up to at the moment, and where they might end up next. I too wondered that, as I felt the urge to wander into new lands call for me. But before that, I was offered a slice of apple pie.
The taste was like apples, but there was a sweetness to it, and a liquid substance which leaked out from my mouth. The same process applied as with an apple – take a bite, chew, then swallow. But in a sort of twist, a hard and flaky substance also sat next to the apples and sweet liquid. All in all, it was an interesting taste.
“Thank you for the experience,” I told Tigershark.
Then I went to the door, ready to depart to a new land. Sunny was beside me once again, as were the other three humans.
“Are you sure you’ll be safe out there?” Sunny asked once again.
“I will be where my footsteps take me,” I assured her. Before I went far past the diner and into the soft, snowy unknown, Tigershark ran after me.
“Will I see you again?” She asked.
I smiled.
“Yes. Whenever you see stars in the night sky, I will be there.”
“I don’t get it, but okay!” Tigershark grinned. With that, I walked off, and looked back, only a quick glance, back at the others. Before long, however long was, I could no longer see the diner. As for where I would turn up, I wouldn’t know until I knew. Amen.
I know these chapters have been kinda shit lately lol but please, bare with me. I’ve never written a series before awsedrf anyways, I’ve written the rest of the chapters and I can’t wait to share them with y’all! I hope you guys enjoy chapter 6! x
~~
“Joel, you’re making a big mistake.”
“If you really like someone, you shouldn’t give up on them so easily.”
Richard just doesn’t know what he’s talking about. I’m not making a mistake –  I know what I’m doing. Sure I feel bad about this, but this has to pay off in the end, right?
I have to be honest with myself though… (Y/N) is actually pretty cool and funny. If I wasn’t doing this, then we might actually be great friends. I do wonder how long this little thing will last though. I don’t want to drag her too deep and have her fall for me because then that would be cruel… I mean, what I’m doing right now isn’t good either, but this is different.
It’s been a couple days since I’ve last seen my group of friends, but it’s definitely been a couple of minutes since I’ve last spoken to (Y/N). We’re currently playing Battleship through GamePigeon on messages.
Chime
‘Oh you little fucker. You’re cheating somehow >:(’
I smirked and wrote back to her, finishing my turn. Sinking, yet again, another one of her ships.
‘You’re a sore loser :P you just suck at hiding your shit from me’
I laughed at her comments and continued beating her at this little game we’re playing. “Joel?” I looked up from my phone and saw all the boys’ faces on me. “Hmm? What?”
“We’ve been talking to you for the past couple of minutes. Who are you texting?” Erick asked as I noticed Christopher had a knowing look on his face. “Uh just a friend..” I quickly put my phone in my pocket and cleared my throat. “Just  a friend?” Zabdiel asked, wiggling his eyebrows up and down playfully. “Oh my – ”
Chime
I didn’t dare look down at my phone as they all waited, looking at me with anticipation. “… You gonna get that?” Richard asked. He especially cannot know about (Y/N) and what I’m doing. I shook my head and patted the phone that rested inside the pocket of my jeans. “No, I’d rather talk to you guys.”
“Dude, it’s okay. No need to get embarrassed.” Richard smiled. “We’re just teasing a little.” I nodded at him as they got back to what they were talking about. I waited a few minutes before looking down at my phone.
‘Aha! Gotcha! I finally found another one of your ships!’
I chuckled and wrote back to her.
‘So? I know where your last two are ;) prepare to accept defeat’
We continued texting each other until Yoandri decided to call me. I excused myself and walked out of the room until I knew no one could hear me. “Hello?” I asked. “Hey! It’s me.” I heard him say. “Hey.” A smile immediately plastered itself onto my face. “How are you, bro?”
“I’m doing okay. I’m just out with Johann and Sam right now getting some food and we were wondering if you wanted to join? It’s totally cool if you can’t or are not feeling up to it. You’re not obliged to say yes.”
“Oh uh..” Quick! Think! I would love to go, but the whole reason why I’m even going out with (Y/N) is so I don’t seem too available. I have to make it believable somehow. Doing this will make you-know-who want to spend more time with me. “You know what? I’m.. actually busy right now. I’m going out with someone later on today and I have to get ready.”
“Hey, it’s no problem!” I heard him chuckle and shuffle in the background. “Yeah, I’m really sorry man. We can hang out later on in the week?”
“Joel, it’s no big deal haha I get that you’re busy, so don’t worry about it... who are you meeting up with?” Innocent question, but I can’t quite tell him the whole truth. I could hear him chuckle on the other line as he waited for my answer. “What? Uh no one.. it’s just a girl I’ve been seeing..”
“Oh my God you finally got someone?” He exclaimed. “Scream it out for the world to hear, would you?”
“Oh come on! This is big news! How can you keep this from me?” He laughed. “It’s not a big deal.” I chuckled. “Does anyone else know about her?” I shook my head and almost forgot that he can’t see me. “Nah, just Chris but that’s about it.”
After a few minutes of him trying to pry more information out of me about her, he hung up the phone as I stood out into the hallway. I bet (Y/N) would be willing to go out today. She’s probably free anyways.
‘Hey, you wanna get dinner together later on? x’
I sent her a text and received one in return moments later.
‘Aahh I can’t today :( lol sorry! I’m having a night in with my girls :) x’
Well then.. there goes those plans.
‘When can I see you again? x’
‘Patience is a virtue, Pimentel lol I’ll let you know soon. x’
‘I’ll be patient for you, princesa. I’ll wait. x’
I don’t know why I called her “princesa”, it just slipped out. Hmm… I’m sure Chris is willing to go out. I walked back into the room where the rest of the boys were and walked up to Chris. “Hey man, you feel like going out right now?” I asked as he smiled. “Do you know me? Of course.”
The rest of the boys didn’t seem to mind that much as their attention was on the TV screen. A game of Mario Kart was being played. “Oh my God Erick, you really suck at this game!” Richard exclaimed as he made a sharp turn. “Ay cállate! I’m trying my best!” Erick laughed as his character bumped into Zabdiel’s. “Hey hey hey! Ten cuidado - me voy a caer!”
Christopher laughed, stood up and put her jacket on. “Vamanos.” He mentioned over to the door and started walking. “Ayo! When you guys are out, do you think you can bring back some food?” Richard asked as he passed the finish line, coming in 3rd place. “Sure thing. Any requests?” Chris asked as Richard shook his head. “I’m not picky.” We walked out the door and made our way towards his car.
“So, where do you feel like going?” He asked me as he started his car up. “No where in particular. Maybe we can just go out for a drive and we’ll see.” He nodded his head as we left.
“How have things been going with that girl you’ve been seeing?” He asked. “(Y/N)? It’s okay right now, she couldn’t go out today so..”
“Oh, I see.” He chuckled. “I’m your back up plan.”
Tumblr media
“What? No, I – I didn’t mean..” He laughed and shook his head. “Dude, it’s fine. I don’t mind.” My face turned a bit red from embarrassment. “What’s she like?” His question caught me off guard. “What?”
“I’m sorry, but ever since I found out about her, I’ve just been curious of who she is.” He smiled. “Uh.. well.. I don’t know much about her yet, but I know she’s very sweet and really funny.” I said as I thought back to our text messages earlier. “One of her favorite drinks of Café de Olla, she wants to travel but her job doesn’t pay much so she hasn’t been able to go out in a while.”
“Where does she work?” He stopped at a red light and waited for me to continue. “At a HomeGoods somewhere around here. I bumped into her one day when I was there buying my stuff I needed.” I talked about her for a few minutes more, stating the facts that she’s told me on our coffee date a few days ago as realization now settled into my brain of how much I actually know about her. I guess playing 20 questions paid off for this specific moment.
“She sounds like a nice girl.” He smiled as he drove up to a Popeyes drive-thru. “Yeah, she is..” I guess I must have been paying attention to her more than I thought. Christopher started to order the food while I looked down at my phone. Maybe I just felt bad about doing this that I thought the least I could do was listen to some of her stories. Yeah, maybe that’s it.
He drove up to the next window, paid with his card and grabbed the food they handed him. “Have a good one.” Christopher smiled at the lady as she returned his smile. “You too.” He handed me the bags as the smell of chicken filled the air in his car.
“I wonder if Erick finally won a round of Mario Kart.” Christopher laughed as he started driving off. “Probably not, but I guess we’ll see when we get home.” I chuckled and looked out the window.
“Hey, Joel?” I turned to look over at him. “Yeah?”
“About (Y/N)… I’m actually really happy for you, bro. You know, to be in the puppy love stage in the beginning of a relationship is the best because everything feels new to the both of you.” He stated. “I’m happy that you found someone. I hope I get to meet her one day.” He smiled. “Yeah, I uh.. I guess we’ll just see.” I’m sorry, Chris, but I don’t think that’s gonna happen… I have to remind myself that she’s not the one I want. There’s someone else…
Hope or Rope
My heart was pounding, my chest is roaring, my mind was racing, the air was freezing. I'm gonna read my note for the last time, if my mind won't change then I can't do anything at all but to bid farewell to this cruel world.
“... In this moment before I leave, I found more clarity than I have ever had during my dull life. In one instant, I'm going to be free from the deafening voices, from the pain, and from you.”
It was a cold December, I'm all alone in my apartment, I'm facing myself in the mirror, I look young but stress is evident in my face, my stormy gray eyes looked weary and my stares were blank for I have forgotten how to smile and much more cry. I've been through a lot and whatever it is that I've been through made me who I am today. I sat down and look at the picture frame in my desk, it was our family picture, mom, dad and me. We were smiling eating dinner together at our dining table. I shifted my gaze for I felt the pain sting in my heart. How I wish we could go back but it just don't work like that. Things changed and it's really hard for me, I don't have someone to run to, I don't have someone to talk to, it felt like the world was against me, it felt like I was living only to die, I wake up everyday hoping I would get hit by a truck, I wake up every single day with the thought of dying, maybe get shot in the head or whatever. I wake up every morning to live in my past. It has been so long since the last time I talked to my mother and father, my mom have her own family now and I think my dad too, and they left me with nothing but a dreadful life. I got up and transferred to my bed, I think I just have to sleep to escape from the thoughts in my head.
Beat.
I was awakened by the rumbling sound of the thunder, I didn't notice that I have already fallen asleep. Just like any other times, sleep was my only escape and now that I'm awake I just can't help but be sad and question my existence. It was still 3 AM, the street outside my apartment is very quiet but the voices in my head is deafening. I'm always a loser in life and so I thought that maybe the only way to win this game is to not play! Aha! That's it. I got up and grabbed some paper, maybe I have to write my last letter, maybe when i'm dead people will start to listen, maybe if i'll be dead my mom and dad will remember that I exist and that i'm their daughter. I started to write everything,I wanna tell them what I feel, I want everyone to know my story.
“ Life has been rough to me. During my younger years I have been raised in a happy family but things changed when my mom and dad broke up. Mom left us for another guy and ever since that day my dad was never sober. I'm always scared to go home because my dad is there, drowning his troubles in whiskey bubbles but I didn't bother as long as I still have my father. But after how many months he left me too. Since then I never heard about my mom and dad. I tried reaching them out but they weren't there. And now I'm at the point of my life where I'm tired of living.I never asked to be given life. Why live when our natural goal is to die? Why live if I don't have the reason to do so? Things just went wrong too many times. I just can't handle this horribly cruel world anymore. Don't worry you won't remember me tomorrow. Just like you didn't yesterday. but maybe then you're going to hear the words I've been singing. Funny when you're dead, how people start listening. Lastly, I want you to know that in this moment before I leave, I found more clarity than I have ever had during my dull life. In one instant, I'm going to be free from the deafening voices, from the pain, and from you.”
This is it, this is the only way I can escape, this is the only way I can erase this pain. I took all of the sheets in my bed, I tied up my linen with the rubber bands that I found.I attached it up in my ceiling and dragged a chair. I got up the chair, held the rope in my hand. My heart was pounding, my chest is roaring, my mind was racing, the air was freezing. I just need the pain to be gone but I'm scared! I'm scared. I'm shaking, should I do this? Can I do this? Am I ready for this? I'm gonna read my note for the last time, if my mind won't change then I can't do anything at all but to bid farewell to this cruel world.
As I read again my note I looked once again to the picture frame in my desk, and flashbacks came running to my mind
“Mommy, let's take a picture since it's daddy's birthday” I said while we were eating dinner. My mom then agreed and took a picture.
Beat.
I was sleeping between my mom and dad and they both bid me goodnight, “Goodnight my love”.
Beat.
I woke up with my mom shouting “ I can't take this life anymore! I'm so done with all your bullshits. I'm not happy being your wife, I already love someone else. Can't you for once understand that I already fell out of love?”
Beat.
“You're just like your mom! You'll just end up being a whore. You don't have any use, you're a dumb kid. Clean up all those mess and buy me a new bottle of whiskey. FASTER! What? You won't get up huh? Do you want me to hit you again you stupid ass brat!”
Beat.
“Goodnight my princess.”
“Goodnight my daughter.”
Beat.
I want to die, I miss my parents so much, I wanna end everything now.
“I love you.”
I just reminisced what happen to me from the past, the bad and the good. It was like I was drenched in cold water. I looked back again to the picture frame and decided to open it up. I then saw the paper I folded and kept years back. It was my drawing. I drew my family and who I wanna be when I grow up, funny how this picture gives me so much feels. At the back of my drawing was my mom's letter for me which she wrote before she left me,
  “As much as I wanted to bring you with me, I just can't. I don't have the money to support you in your studies, I'm gonna be going abroad and when the time comes and I'll have enough resources to support you, don't worry I'll come and get you but for the mean time, take care of yourself, don't ever give up, you're a strong kid. And I want you to chase your dreams and achieve your goals. Me and your dad have issues, you know that. I'm sorry you have to suffer. When we meet again I want to see you happy and successful. When the time comes and everything is well we will be living our best life again. instill in your mind that you'll never give up, even when you should. I love you so much. - Mom.”
I'm torn between ending my life or continuing it hoping for the day my mom will come back. I just can't. I'm undecided. I'm literally just standing in front of the rope and chair right now holding my mom's letter. A part of me wants to end this but a part of me wants to hold on. Should I just sleep again? At least by that I can somehow escape but it's just temporary! What happens after? What should I do? This is driving me crazy. It's already 5 AM the sun is rising, I can already hear people and vehicles passing by. What will I do. Should I just die or should I just go on with my life. I walked towards my window and saw people passing by, some are on their way to work while others are on their morning run. I wonder how will I ever be if I live a little longer, if I'll try to go out and socialize with others. If I won't imprison myself in my cold and depressing apartment. Will my life change if for once I'll try to live? There's a sudden change of heart, it feels like my mindset is gonna change. Looking at all these people starting their day to day life wants me to live more. I picked up my suicide note. I looked at my mom's letter and my suicide note. If i'll die I will never feel the pain, if I will live I will get to experience the happiness I long for. But how? What if i'll try to live my life like any normal person do, what if i'll try to get my life together and forget the pain I've been through, what if I'll try to be happy and let go of the past? That's right! I should try that! And if in the end it won't work out maybe by then I'll let myself die. For now, I already know what to do. I have to do everything to get my life together. I hid my suicide letter at the back of my picture frame ,I detached my sheets from the ceiling and placed it on my bed, I put back the chair to where it was properly placed. I walked my way towards my window and said to myself “ maybe next time I'll need the rope but for now I have to hope”.
word count: 2,266ish
genre: fantasy-fluffish
summary: basically a interesting encounter of a smol traveler and a cute dwarf
warning: lol none rlly unless cursing is a turn-off and there will probably be dwarvish language in future chapters. translations will be in (parentheses)
~ chapter one ~ ~~ chapter two ~~
This isn’t what you had in mind when you decided to make a bet. Not in the slightest had it occurred to you that, sometimes, winning wasn’t always the right route... especially if your ways to victory were less than honorable.
Short on a little pocket change, you had decided to innocently take bets with a couple of strangers. Now, as shady as that sounds, the bets were just made on a simple card game.
It didn’t end well though when you had started to... uhm... win every single round? Consecutively you beat out all those who had challenged you in the battle of cards.
Which had tragically led to your downfall, as you were caught cheating, red-handed with the whole losing crowd surrounding your current match.
“What is that up your sleeve?!”
The outburst didn’t end very well. With many curses and slanders like, “cheating whore” or “lying bitch” being thrown at you, it only fueled the short fuse you had on your temper.
So when the punches started flying, the tables turned prettyyy quickly with all the hulking bodies swarming. “Aha.. guys let’s just settle this like civilized-”
A spat of blood landed near your boots, pausing your getaway speech. The first punch you had so graciously given really took well with the meathead’s jaw. The bruise already seemed to be taking color as the candlelight flickered over his skin. Your knuckles had greatly protested when met with the bone.
One of the losers broke the silence. “Give us our money back you stealing, conniving-”
“Alright catch!!”
You tossed about five of the cheapest coins you had, before making a dash out of the bar. Sprinting as fast as your little legs would carry you.
Surely after ‘earning’ all of those winnings they didn’t really think they could get it back that easily?! Hah! Not if you had anything to say about it.
You hadn’t been the only cheater at the table, yet it didn’t matter since you were the one who got caught. Deep inside you wanted to find some sort of respect for the people who hadn’t gotten outed, but what’s the point in their cheating if they can’t even beat you, another cheater?!
Shouts could be heard all around the town of Bree that night. You had better sense then to think that they wouldn’t fight over petty coins for long. So instead of trying to hide behind horse pins and barrels of hay, you just continued on running.
It wasn’t like you had a home here. A traveler is what you were, staying only long enough to get into some trouble. Which happened faster in places south of Fornost in Eriador or just wherever the occasional asshole happened to be. You had found that each race had the asshole types, even the elves! You’d like to think men had the most.
Past the wooden gates, off of the road, and into the trees, your adrenaline finally started to demenish. The yelling could still be heard if someone strained their ears for it but you were certain they wouldn’t be following. Most of the losers were drunk-silly and it was a wonder how some had managed to take two steps without careening to the floor.
*Snap!*
The sound had you twirling for its maker. It was past nightfall, so your vision was quite dim, but you squinted anyway. Like that would somehow make things clearer. Whatever had made that noise was rather too close for your liking.
Your hands couldn’t stop themselves from unsheathing the small dagger you carried at your hip. Just for safe keepings, as traveling never guaranteed protection.
“Drop your weapon.”
A deep baritone voice demanded. You didn’t. Whoever it may be wasn’t close enough for you to spot, so like hell you would drop the only thing that could hurt an enemy.
“I said drop it!”
“Why would I do that hmm?” You replied, eyeing the surrounding trees while keeping in a circle to watch those behind you. It seemed your adrenaline had spiked, your feet couldn’t keep still.
“Because I’ll put an arrow through that stub of an arm if you don’t.” The voice was a bit cheeky now, knowing that they had already won somehow.
Arrows, how cruelly unfair.
“Why don’t you stop hiding like a coward and fight me with honor?!” You harped angrily.
Not a second later did an arrow pass right before your eyes. Lightly grazing the skin close to your left cheekbone. Instantly you knew where it had been shot from.
Five branches higher than you originally thought he had been hiding. He was crouched and balanced on a thick oak limb. “You know nothing of honor.” He retorted, looking very pleased with himself, as he kept his aim for a second shot. Whoever this guy was, obviously knew about the card game.
“Now I’ll say it for a third time, put down your weapon.”
You smirked, he was pretty good. To save yourself from getting skewered for the moment, the dagger slipped from your fingers, landing with a light thump to the dirt floor.
Taking that as a sign of surrender, the fellow in the tree jumped down. Landing not so gracefully but still managing to not fall flat on his arse, he walked nearer.
Arrow stored away, and bow slung to his back, the two of you eyed each other. It was then, that you finally noticed, he was a dwarf.
“You’re a dwarf!” The shock in your voice must have surprised him because he looked utterly confused. Up in the tree, he had only been a shadow of what looked to be a thick-muscled man. But now that he was standing only a couple of feet away in the darkness, the height difference was a clear sign.
“You’re shorter than I am!” He replied hotly. Taking your shock as offense you supposed. But him commenting on your own height, instantly ticked you off.
“First of all,” You flared as you shifted your weight to one side. “I was only surprised since you don’t have a beard,” The slight jab of your comment sticking to him as you explained the earlier shock in your voice. “Second of all, we are practically the same height though I doubt I’d ever be shorter than a dwarf!” Even though the two of you were still a couple of feet away, your hand kept a parallel line as it touched your forehead and went out to touch the air in front of you. Showing him exactly from eye level that you were not, in fact, shorter than him. But equals.
He sputtered for a moment, giving out excuses like ‘the beard is still growing’ and ‘I’m still pretty young for a dwarf’. He cleared his throat after he was done with his explanations.
“Anyways, I think you stole something of mine.” He opened his palm as if you would return whatever he was seeking immediately.
Brows furrowing you looked at him for a moment. “Uhm, I don’t even know you. Much less stealing something from you. I’m not a thief.”
He took a step forward and your arms crossed instantly. He wasn’t going to intimidate you.
“Cheating is a form of stealing in my book.” An eyebrow quirked as he started looking for what you assumed the ‘stolen’ coins on your person.
“Hah! So you followed me all the way into the forest huh?” This scenario just seemed to get better and better. “Look dwarf, I wasn’t the only one cheating. It just so happened I was better at it.” You tilted your head at your own statement, “actually not better, since I did in fact get caught... but I did win those rounds..”
Now it seemed you were having to explain yourself. All the while he kept creeping closer until you were done and he was right before your toes.
Instincts told you to reach for the knife that lay to the side of your foot. But would such an effort be quick enough before he also had weapons out and ready? Was it a risk you were willing to take? All he wanted was the money he put in.
His brown eyes caught the moonlight filtering through the tree tops overhead. Right off the bat you hadn’t felt any hatred from the dwarf.
The longer the two of you locked eyes, your stronghold seemed to waver. He had big puppy-dog eyes. Scrunching up your face unpleasantly you sighed, “10 pieces right?”
He nodded frantically, “my uncle had given me the money... I had faith I could win and make more.” He started to ramble. “And it would be super embarrassing to go back to him for breakfast money.”
Giving the dwarf 10 coins wasn’t that big of a deal. Especially since you had faced off about 15 other strangers in the card game. The leather pouch holding most of your earning came into view and still the dwarf continued on talking. “So, I’m Kili by the way,” He grinned charmingly bending to bow. “At your service.”
How easily it would be to just come up with your knee. Squarely knocking him out and taking off without giving him ‘his uncle’s money’. You weren’t exactly sure to trust him. He didn’t seem to be lying... but he was still a stranger, even if he did claim the name Kili.
You didn’t make any moves, just counting out the coins. “So who are you and where are you from?” Eyes flickering back up to his face he seemed to be leaning forward waiting for a reply.
Too close.
You leaned backwards on your heels, one foot sliding that way as well. “I don’t see how it’s any of your business...”
It wouldn’t be good for your name to spread around the town of Bree for those still angered to come running after you. Bounty hunters were very much a thing around the Middle Earth.
“Well since you are so kindly returning my money, I thought we could become friends!” Kili nodded, as if that was the normal thing to do after chasing, threatening, and receiving as he pleased.
“Hmm friends?” You questioned looking suspiciously into his eyes to find the truth. Which was a big mistake because those orbs were traps.
Seriously it seemed today was a day to get caught. “I’m Y/N.. and I just travel around.” You held out his money which he again held out a flat palm.
Like hell you were even letting the tips of your fingers touch that palm. You feared touch would be even more magnetic than sight. So without care for where the coins fell you dropped the pieces.
Turning your back on him, “now that’s settled, I’ll get going.”
A coin or two had fallen to the dirt and he scurried to pick them up and put them in a safe place. “Wait!” Kili called out to your figure, which was slowly picking up speed.
“Don’t you want your dagger?”
That stopped you right in your tracks. You could have face palmed yourself. “Ah right” shifting and facing him once more your mouth dropped open, “LOOK BEHIND YOU!”
His eyes widened and he was in motion as soon as he registered the first word. Throwing your weapon to whatever—
He stopped midway thankfully and let out an exasperated breath. “Bilbo!” The relief in his voice was evident as he lowered his arm.
Now this ‘Bilbo’ fellow was even shorter than you and Kili. As you continued your examination of the new face and how disgruntled he looked to have almost gotten a dagger to the forehead, you came to the conclusion that he was a hobbit. The feet were a dead giveaway, humongous. You were also accustom to many races as well including hobbits. Their faces were clean of any hair unlike dwarves, who usually grew out long beards. Which was why Kili was a bit surprising since all he had was a bit of scruff.
Frowning, Bilbo threw some stares between the two of you and Kili before announcing, “Thorin is asking for you..”
It seemed that the frowning was contagious, because now the ever-smiley Kili grimaced. “Tell him I’m busy.” And Bilbo had sensed that would be the answer because he was talking again before the last words could leave the dwarf’s mouth. “No no no, he said the whole company needs rest. You know how Thorin is.”
Sighing to himself Kili could only shake his head as his voice dipped lower to a whisper. Trying to keep this between only Bilbo and himself now. “Tell my uncle that I will choose to sleep whenever and wherever, on my own terms.” He murmured through pursed lips as Bilbo’s eyebrows jumped at the statement.
The two of them continued on like that, fiercely whispering. Which you didn’t really care too much about and used their waning attention to slowly back away. Maybe you could finally get out of the forest surrounding Bree and move along without anymore hassles.
The creeping went well for about six more steps before Kili was turning back to you, he smiled triumphantly. Bilbo was grumbling and on quiet pads trotted his way back to the inn where the company was staying at. He wasn’t looking forward to Thorin Oakenshield’s glowers when he returned empty-handed of his nephew.
“Now where were we?” His smile not fleeting even after noticing the new distance between the both of you.
“Ah trying to escape?”
You crossed your arms together before you could start pulling at your hair from the frustration you were feeling. “Yes and if I am escaping? What are you to do about it?” Your voice high and snippety. You had given him his uncle’s money back. What more did he want?!
“Well, then I’ll chase after you~” His brown eyes twinkled with mischief.
You stared at him for a couple of moments. Was he really flirting?!
Magnus’s Only Love (A Magnus’s Daughter and AlecXFemReader Imagine) Part 1
‘Okay, As you may, or may not know. Last summer I had posted a imagine and I was proud of it because it took a lot of effort to get it right. But as an IDIOT I am today. I accidentally deleted it. Don’t ask me how, or why. But it was deleted it.
So, I tried and tried to remake this imagine and poured my blood, sweat, and tears into this imagine. Just so I can make it resemble its original story.
Please do not judge me if it took so long. But, I have very good excuses for why it took so long to rewrite it by memory.
So here we go’
Imagine being the adoptive daughter of the High Warlock of Brooklyn, Magnus Bane. He found you and raised you as your own.  And instead of meeting Magnus at his club. The Shadowhunters were invited to an exclusive ball for warlocks, in celebration of your birthday.
Hmm…  wonder how that will turn out?
Warning: I do not own Shadowhunters or any its relations to the studio and the actors and actresses
=============================================================
(18 years ago)
It was a beautiful night. The High Warlock was walking home from his previous client’s home. He could’ve easily made a portal to go home, but something made him feel in need to take a walk instead. He doesn’t know why, but he feels that he needs to do it.
When he passed a dark alley, he heard a peculiar noise coming from the dark shadows of the wet and lifeless alleyway.
Magnus stops his whistling and turns to look at the alleyway.
Feeling cautious and curious, he carefully walk through the alley and began to follow the faint noise. From the sounds of it, it came from behind the large dumpster by the brick wall of the building.
And when Magnus came over and searches for whatever was causing the noise. His hard eyes immediately drop to replace a shocking look.
It was a baby. Wrapped in a beige blanket and placed inside a soaked box. It looked about no more than a month old. Definitely a newborn. The baby’s cries became louder and more painful for Magnus to listen.
He felt disgusted. What kind of Mundane would abandon a poor helpless baby in the streets?
The High Warlock had always had a soft heart towards children, especially to his students when they came of age.
“Shhh.” He shushes softly to the little babe. “There, there little one.”
He crouches down and gently picks up the baby from it’s poorly excused of a cradle.
Standing up and adjusting the baby in his arms. The baby’s cries died down as Magnus calms it down with numerous whispers of comfort.
The baby looks up at him with teary eyes. It watches as Magnus smiles warmly and gently grabs it’s hand. But when he did, he felt a wave of magic that he never knew existed in such a small vessel.
His smile went away and he looks down at the baby stunned.
It wasn’t a Mundane babe at all. It had warlock blood running through its veins.
“Curious.” Magnus whispers in puzzlement. Wondering how a baby warlock could be whined up in such a foul area.
But all of those thoughts went away when the baby started to coo quiet sounds. Caressing the back of the child’s hand with his thumb, Magnus smiled down at the baby as he began to feel a connection that would change his life forever.
“Well, this certainly changes everything.” He whispers softly to himself. The baby continues to coo as it touches his nose and Magnus lets out a quiet laugh and began to walk, taking the baby away from its unknowingly end.
Later that evening, after taking the baby to his home. He soon found out that it was a girl.
He named her, Y/N.
(18 Years later)
“Magnus Bane,” Hodge announced the name to the young Shadowhunters while showing some old and new pictures of a young Asian looking man on the screen. “He’s over 300 years old. And as you can see, he’s not exactly shied away from the pleasures of every century. His taste are both exquisite and quite excessive.”
“Looks like the Downworld’s David Guetta.” Clary commented as she studied the pictures.
“Guetta’s already a Downworlder,” Isabelle stated and Clary looks at her in confuse. “Vampire? Ever seen him in the daylight?”
“Can you two focus?” Alec snapped lightly, wanting them to shut up for Hodge to continue. “This is not a joke.”
Izzy simply sent a sly smile. “Someone needs to get slayed.” She mutters playfully.
“Alec is right,” Hodge said.”Now, Magnus is one of the most powerful warlocks I’ve ever known. he has a deep mistrust of Shadowhunters.”
Clary scoffs. “Well, then why did he help my mom remove my memories? Isn’t she a Shadowhunter?”
“Yes,” Hodges agree. “One of the best. But help might not be the most accurate word. Now, did Magnus provide a service for Jocelyn? Perhaps. But more than likely, your mother paid Magnus handsomely for his magic. Warlocks usually require payment before they help anyone with anything.”
“Word from the Clave is that most of the warlocks have gone into hiding since Valentine began hunting them.”
Hodge hummed. Valentine must be searching for the warlocks. Where did Jocelyn-” Before could even continue, a sharp hiss escaped from his lips as his rune started to burn him.
“Hodge, your rune. You okay?”
He nodded a bit to show that he was fine.
“So, how do we find Magnus?” Clary asked.
Jace leaned back in his seat as he studies the picture of Magnus on the screen. “We don’t. Magnus finds us. We’ll set up a meeting, somewhere protected. Lure him out of hiding.”
“That’s not gonna happen.” Izzy suddenly informs them with a tablet in hand.
“What do you mean?” Jace asked as he sent her a frowning look.
Isabelle turns the tablet to show them a picture of a girl sitting next to Magnus. She couldn’t be more than Clary’s age. “Remember her? Y/N Bane? As in-”
“Magnus’s daughter.” Hodges breathes in defeat. “Of course.”
“What? Why the sad face all of the sudden.” Clary began to worry about the plan to get her memories.
“Because, as much as Magnus loves to party. He loves his daughter more.” Hodge takes the tablet and taps the buttons to show a more clear picture of the High Warlocks daughter.
“Y/N Bane. Rumors are that she’s was found by Magnus as an infant and was later adopted by him. No one knows where she came from. All we know is that she has warlock blood running through her veins.”
“And there are no other information?” Alec asked.”Regardless of her relations to Magnus.”
Hodges shakes his head. “None.”
“Then I guess we’re screwed.” Jace said and Clary looks down in disappointment.
“Actually…” Izzy said with a realization in her eyes. She rips the tablet from Hodges’ hands and taps the screen with her eyes bouncing. Looking for the thing that clarifies her expectations.
“Aha!” She says in triumph and shows the group the screen of the tablet. “Here it is. During my surveillance of the Downworlders. I came across this.” The screen shows an elegant lilac invitation.
“It’s a warlock ball. An event that’s being held secretly in uptown for the celebration of Y/N’s 18 birthday.”
“Where did you get that? Wait,” Alec looks at her apprehensively. “How did you get that?“
“A friend,” Isabelle answers innocently with a shrug. “And from what I hear, Magnus loves to spoil his little Warlock Princess.”
The others paused for a moment to think through this plan. But as usual, Alec was cautious and snaps the reality into it.
“He’ll never go for it. From what Hodge described. Magnus seems to be very protective of Y/N. He can’t risk an opening, not with Valentine trying to kill him.”
“Then we’ll need bait,” Hodge says with a serious look. “Follow me.”
As the Shadowhunters continue on with their preparations for their plan. Another group was furiously working with theirs.
Under the watchful eyes of a being more terrifying under this time of day.
                                                            ___
“What is this?!” Magnus asked in an angered tone. His voice nearly shakes the chandelier hanging in the ballroom.
Everyone was looking busy from each and every corner of the venue hall for the High Warlock’s daughter’s birthday ball. Everything was going well until a mundane delivery boy came in with a pink ice sculptured swan.
“I specifically ordered a magenta swan, not a pink one.” Magnus told the delivery boy in stress as he gave him a hard look.
“Magenta is pink.” The delivery boy exclaimed in boredom. Oblivious to the magic the warlocks were doing around the room.
“No, no, no.” Magnus waved his two fingers in gesture.”Magenta is a rich and elegant color. Pink is just a poor and dull lifeless loser that’s desperate for socialism.”
The delivery boy rolled his eyes.”Look, man. I just deliver the ice. I don’t craft or make. I just take whatever I was given to and make sure that its safely deliver to whatever address they gave me.”
Magnus groans clearly stressed and waved at the boy away. “Just get it out of my sight.”
The boy rolled his eyes again and began to take the swan out of the venue.
Magnus let’s out a heavy sigh and looks around the room. After taking a few deep breaths to calm himself, he calls out to a group of strong looking warlocks, who were in charge of protecting the venue, for a small conference and chat.
“And make sure to place protective shields in every exit. I don’t want any Circle members crashing this party.”
“Yes, Magnus.” One of them, who was obviously in charge of the security operation, nodded and they all went to various directions.
“Papa.”
A gentle voice was heard from behind the High Warlock. He turned around and a bright and warm smile appeared on his face.
There she was. Standing on the dance floor, wearing a very elegant ballroom dress that he helped pick out. Her eyes sparkling with excitement and worry. She probably thought that he might not like the dress on her. But she was wrong.
“Oh.” He breathes. “Bulan. You are an absolute vision.”
Bulan was an Indonesian pet name that he had given her since she was a babe. It means ‘moon’. He chose it in memory of the night he had found her in the dark alleyway on that night of a full moon.
“Give us a twirl.” He took her hand gently and turned her slowly as she smiled, relieved by his reaction. He placed his hands on her shoulders. “My dear, you are going to be the talk of the ball. And not because it’s your birthday.”
Y/N smiled at her adopted father’s complement. “Thank you, Papa. But I think this perfect night will have some alters.”
Magnus raised a brow. “What do you mean?”
Y/N looks behind at Elias. He was trailing her from behind after telling her some interesting news. “Tell him.” She mutters to him and he nodded.
The horned warlock steps forward to Magnus. “Jace Wayland wants to make a trade. Here, at the ball.”
Magnus looked unimpressed.“And what kind of trade will make me want to invite him to the ball?”
“He says he has Camille’s necklace.” Elias stated slowly.
Magnus looks up at Elias. Now interested in the Shadowhunter’s offer.
Y/N knows very well of what Elias was talking about. It was an enchanted ruby necklace that Magnus gave to Camille as a token of their love. But that was years ago. Camile changed, and Y/N never got to know the other Camille that Magnus had met before she became a vampire.
“Huh,” Magnus says with slight interest. “And what exactly does he want in return for it?”
“The memories of a Clary Fairchild.”
Y/N ears perked at the mentioning of Clary’s name. She knew her very well. They used to play together as children at every appointment right before Magnus wipes her memories away.
“Well then,” Magnus hummed.”I guess we’ll have to send another invitation, don’t we?”
Elias pursed his lips then steps closer to the High Warlock. “Magnus, consider your guests-”
“When did you become so talkative, Elias?” Magnus inquired. Not quite listening to the horned warlock.
Y/N offered him a small smile, encouraging him to continue, despite Magnus’s behavior.
“Magnus, I beg you to reconsider.” He was starting to beg. Desperate for Magnus to change his mind.
“Always frowning Elias. You may be immortal.” Magnus curled his nose. “But you’re immune to crow’s feet.”
Y/N rolled her eyes at her adoptive father’s statement as Elia sent her gave a pleading look at the corner of his eyes. Silently asking for her help.
But alas, she said nothing.
“You cannot invite them, nor place the meeting at the ball.” Elias began with a look of determination in his eyes. “Valentine is getting close to you, to Y/N. It is far too dangerous for the Shadowhunters to attend the event. This,” He gestures the venue.” is the beginning of a thin thread for all of us. Including yourself. You’re hanging us above to the pit of our deaths.”
“I was alive when the Dead Sea was just a lake that was feeling just a little poorly,” Magnus replied. He leaned in closer to Elias. “I value your console, truly I do. However, I can’t help but feel this will be my only chance of getting that jewel back. Not to mention the celebration of Y/N’s birthday is not to be ignored.”
Elias sighed and slumped his shoulders as Y/N stares at Magnus with a blank look. The necklace held a semi-value to him. She doesn’t know why, but it did.
“Is one necklace truly worth the risk?” Elias asked in disbelief.
“This necklace is.” Magnus gave him a solid look. “While that’s settled. Go to the Spiral Labyrinth and tell Tessa we need more shields. If any danger comes to this party, I want every warlock to be evacuated to our protective wards.” He ordered. It was the only thing that Elias had agreed, so far.
“Y/N and I may be prepared to take on Valentine, but our guests aren’t.” He patted Elias’s shoulder and took Y/N’s hand and tucks it into the crook of his elbow, leading her away from the worry warlock.
Y/N shot an apologetic look to Elias and he just shakes his head angrily before storming off to do her father’s orders.
“He’s right you know.” Y/N said to him. “Maybe we should cancel the ball-” Magnus raised his hand in front of her face.
“I don’t want to hear it.”
“But-”
“Y/N, I am telling as not just your mentor, but as your father that turning eighteen should be a grand day for young teenage girls like you. That’s why I want you to feel special, even if it’s just for today. Even if Valentine’s hunting us.”
Magnus looks down at her with a cool expression that made he would give her to calm her anxieties down. But she wouldn’t have it.
“Don’t worry about it, Bulan.” He gently rests the palm of his hand on her face. “Everything will work out just fine. I don’t want you to worry about these things. Especially on your birthday. The Circle members wouldn’t dare to ambush the ball. Not while we’re standing.”
Y/N sighed at him and she took his hand gently away from her face. “You can’t blame me for worrying about our friends. Especially Aggy.”
Agatha Geruno, also known as Aggy, is Y/N’s mundane nanny for as long as she can remember.
Before she was assigned to be her nanny. She was a simple caretaker of the Bane residence.
Back in the 1800′s, before he reunited with Camille at the time, Magnus saved Aggy’s African ancestors from a cruel owner, who would abuse them by using a whip and a hot fire iron. And after they were all rescued, they were forever in debt to the warlock for generations and had been keeping the secret of the Shadow World for almost a century now.
Aggy is the last bloodline of her family. Making her the last mundane to know about the Shadow World. And she’s always been an important part of Y/N’s life whenever Magnus has to attend a meeting with the Clave or brings her up to her room when ‘special’ clients came to their residence.
She’s basically the only woman that Y/N has ever consider as a mother.
“I know Y/N.” Magnus holds her hands gently. “But that’s why I made a precaution to insert the yes and no boxes in the invitations.”
Y/N held back a laugh. Feeling slightly a bit better thanks to her father’s so-called comedy but manages to let a small laugh escape.
“There’s that smile.” Magnus smile and gave Y/N a side hug as he leads her again. “By the way. I have a surprise for you.” He snapped his fingers and a young warlock boy came over with a decorative present.
“What’s this?” Y/N smiled with a slight frown on her face.
“A gift from your Uncle Ragnor. Since he couldn’t make it to the ball, he decided to do the best thing.” Magnus waved the warlock boy to proceed with the giving. He stepped closer and Y/N took the small card that was on top of the gift.
She opens it and reads it out loud. “ ‘My dear Y/N, I’m sorry I couldn’t make it. But until then, enjoy this gift. For he will watch over you in my absences. Love, Uncle Ragnor.’”
Y/N frowned but gave the note to Magnus to open the present. she looked inside and gasped lightly to see what Ragnor had given her. “Oh… well hello there.” She whispers.
She gave the lid to Magnus and reaches inside the gift, pulling out a small grey and yellow-eyed Persian kitten.
“Hi,” Y/N gushes quietly. “Aren’t you a little joy.”
Magnus silently sent the young warlock boy away with the empty present and note. He went beside Y/N’s side and flashes her a warm smile. “What do you think of him?”
Y/N now understands the meaning of Ragnor’s letter. “He’s perfect. Aww, look at those little eyes.” She gushes at the little creature and it let out a small meow in response.
“Now all he needs is a name,” Magnus reminded her with a smile. “What are you gonna call him?”
Y/N frowns and looks out the at one of the large windows in the venue hall. Down across the street from the building was a small white church.
She studies the little building until the words from her mind formed carefully with her lips. And a name was whispered. “Church…”
“Church?” Magnus repeated uncertainly.
“Church.” Y/N smiled widely and looks at Magnus affirmatively. “His name is Church.”
Magnus gave her a weird look but slowly wipes it away. “Strange name. But acceptable. And what about you? Can you handle being called Church for the rest of your life?” He asked the small kitten as he leans to pet it.
But the small kitten, now called Church, apparently didn’t like the warlock interfering his space with his new master. So he hissed wildly and raised a paw to scratch him.
Luckily, Magnus dodges it and steps back in surprised then glares at the small creature.”Well, I’ve never.” He says as he placed a hand on his chest.
Y/N chuckles and gently scratched the kitten’s head to calm him down.
It was all Magnus had hoped for. Watching his little girl who transformed into a beautiful woman. Blowing the candles on her three-tier cake and was whisked away by some of the guests to speak with her.
Magnus smiled and went to his own conversations with his close companions on the large staircase that resembles a lot like its twin on the other side of the venue. Where new young arrivals had come from the large doors and went down the staircase.
Clary and Isabelle wore simple, yet elegant dresses that were found in the back of Izzy’s closet for emergencies. Whilst Jace and Alec wore black tuxes. All four of them wore black masks as the invitation had instructed for them to. They were paired up to blend in with the crowd. Izzy holds on to Alec’s elbow, and Clary holding Jace’s. At first, Clary hesitated but still moved on with the plan.
“So this is what a warlock ball looks like,” Isabelle commented as she awes the dancers on the dance floor as she walked down and notices the floating flowers in the high ceiling. “Nice.”
“Hey,” Alec snaps his fingers at her face. “Remember, we are not here to have fun. We’re here on a mission.”
“I don’t know, it honestly feels like we are.” Izzy commented as a waiter passed by with a tray of glasses filled with champagne, which she happily took one when he offered them.
“He’s right.” Jace nodded. “We need to find Magnus.”
“How? Everyone here is wearing a mask.” Clary stated softly as they looked at the crowd with equals of uncertain looks.
After a moment of searching, no luck. “Spread out. It’ll save us some time.” Izzy said and they went to different directions.
Jace obviously took Clary’s hand and guide her into the crowd.
Isabelle decided to search around the resting area. Secretly hoping to get another glass of champagne.
And lastly, Alec chose to look around where the dance floor was.
But when he passed by one of the columns of the large venue, Y/N was there talking with few of the guests.
Y/N felt a small chill when Alec passed her and she was curious enough to turn and catch him walking and looking around the venue. For a moment, she thought it was one of the many guards that Magnus had hired. But when she caught a glimpse of his rune on the side of his neck and the very dark hair, she knew exactly who it was.
Alec Lightwood. She answered her own question in her head and curved the corners of her mouth.
“Excuse me.” She generously said to a couple of her friends that she was talking to and smoothly went to find the Lightwood.
Alec looked and looked. But he still couldn’t find any familiarity signs to which one of the men in the ballroom is Magnus Bane. He was about to check where Isabelle was but was stopped when a soft and silky voice was heard from behind him.
“I thought Shadowhunters weren’t allowed to this party?”
Alec turned and sees a (your eye color)-eyed girl wearing a black and laced mask that covered mostly around her eyes and the bridge of her nose. It matches well with the gown that she was wearing that complemented her aura very well. Her smile holds no emotion other than an innocent curiosity.
Unlike most of the warlocks in the ballroom. She didn’t have horns, nor gills or anything that’s considered to show the demon part of a warlock. But Alec knew better. This girl would definitely show the inhumane of her nature. Though as he was observing her casually, he suddenly felt the palms of his hands beginning to sweat as he continued to stare at the girl with an uncertain look.
“We aren’t. We were invited personally by the host.” Alec blurted out cooly. Trying not to give any attention away.
“We?” She repeated.”You mean there’s more of you?”
Alec wanted to slap his forehead. How could he be so stupid? He should’ve just kept quiet and walk away.
“Let’s see,” The girl trails off as she studies him closely but not too close. “Blue eyes, dark hair… You must be Alec Lightwood.”
Alec’s body tensed. “How do you know-”
“The Lightwoods aren’t exactly a very forgetful family in the Shadow world.” She stated with boring eyes.
“That’s not a fact.”
“It wasn’t supposed to be.” She quipped.
Even with a blank hard stare, Y/N can clearly see that she was pushing the Shadowhunter’s buttons. Which surprisingly pleases her a bit. She wasn’t one to annoy strangers other than the people who are close to her. “Care to dance?” She proposed as she offers her hand.
Alec raised his brow slightly. “Isn’t the guy suppose to ask that?”
Y/N shrugs, her expression never changing. “I guess I wanted to try to bend the rules for tonight.”
Alec shakes his head. “I don’t know how to dance.” He refused, mostly not wanting to get involved with a Downworlder.
“I don’t believe that for a second. From what I heard, you Lightwoods are excellent dancers when it comes to an event like this.”
The Shadowhunter’s blue eyes look upon the girl’s for a moment then to her hand. Raziel knows what was going through his head right now. He would be wise enough to refuse the girl’s offer. Or just rip the Band-Aid and dance with the Downworlder.
With a light sigh and closing his eyes for a moment. He took the girl’s hand and wordlessly lead her to the floor.
No one stopped when the young pair came to join to dance. Alec glided and guided the girl to the floor. Perfectly matching the pattern of the dance. Soon enough, there were no falters as they sync perfectly to the tempo of the music and dance along with the guests around them.
He turns them both elegantly and continued to follow the tempo of the music and followed the other dancers’ pattern. He and the other male guests lift their partners up and swiftly placed them back on the floor. The Shadowhunter and the Downworlder then found themselves in a hammerlock position as they turn in a circle two times. Staring into each other’s eyes.
In his quiet yet strategic mind. Alec was actually grateful for the lessons that his mother had thought him and Jace when they were little kids. Actually thankful for his mother’s suggestion in case for events like this. But dancing with a Downworlder was honestly not one of those events unless it was for a mission. Which is now.
Though if he was truthful, he finds the girl’s (color) eyes rather… hypnotizing.
As they dance, silent actions were taken when Jace had finally spotted the target. Standing on the top of the large staircase as he was speaking happily with a couple while holding his mask by the handle.
“Magnus!” Jace says his name loud enough to catch the High Warlock’s attention. But instantly regrets it when the music had stopped and suddenly felt numerous eyes at his and Clary’s way as they both take off their masks.
The guests on the dance floor stopped to see why the music had stopped playing and Alec immediately looked concern and silently cursed when he saw Jace being the center of attention. Meanwhile, Y/N watched him at the corner of her eye carefully to see what his next move will be.
Magnus turns slowly to see who was calling him and softly puts down his mask when he saw-“Jace Wayland.” He smiles in coy. “I see you got my invite.”
Jace merely nods and steps forward with Clary beside him. Magnus steps down the staircase with his eyes never leaving the newly arrivals.
“And who’s this?” Magnus’ eyes turned to Clary. “Do my eyes deceive me? Clary Fairchild,” He stops until he was a few steps between them. “Grown into a beautiful woman.” He studies her from head to toe.
“Magnus Bane. “Clary dries out his name with a disgusted look on her face. “So you’re the one who stole my memories.”
“At your mother’s request,” Magnus interjected joyfully. “She knew the risk.”
He turns to Jace with his hand extended forward. “Show me the jewelry, Shadowhunter.”
Jace lifts his hand and shows the necklace, dangling teasingly to show Magnus. The warlock smiles in satisfy and went to grab it. But Jace made a small taunting sound as he retreats the necklace back from Magnus’ reach.
“Give Clary her memories back and you get the jewelry.” He demands softly.
“I have to confirm it’s authenticity.”
Hesitated, Jace and Clary shared a brief look before Jace cringed slightly in defeat and reluctantly hands over the necklace.
Magnus smiles at it loving and flips it over. Clary leans in a bit to see that there was an in graving in the back.
“Amor verus numquam moritur.” Magnus says then translates it. “ ’True love can never die.’ Oh, how I miss this jewel. But it feels as if it’s incomplete without a new owner.” He quickly glances to the blonde Shadowhunter then looks past the pair. “Bulan!”
He calls over them and all heads were turned to where Alec was standing on the dance floor. At first, Alec was confused about what Magnus had said to make all the Downworlders in the venue to stare at him. But then he realizes it wasn’t him that everyone was staring at, but the girl that he was dancing with.
He turned his head to her and sees her staring up at him with guilt in her eyes. She leans up a little to whisper. “I’m sorry.” And pulls herself out of his grasp as he looks at her with a shocked look.
He had been dancing with the High Warlock’s daughter the whole time. But what scared him the most was not his disgusted feelings towards the Downorlder, but the strange feeling that he had experienced for her at the dance not just a moment ago.
Y/N reaches to her father and tugs her skirt a bit to walk up the staircase. And when she did, she notices that study look that Clary was giving her. Like she was figuring out something. She wasn’t surprised, they were playmates when they were children.
But that didn’t mean that Clary was eery about the sorceress. Though she couldn’t deny, that aura she was getting from the girl that past her to get to her father was familiar. Like she knew her before.
When Y/N came beside Magnus, told her to turn around and she did.
“An exquisite piece like this, should be worn by someone who can outwit its beauty.” Magnus says as he put the necklace around her neck.
Y/N smiled and turns to him to speak a thick language that Clary and Jace couldn’t understand. “ Terima kasih Ayah. Itu seindah yang kamu gambarkan.”
(Thank you father, it’s as beautiful as you described.)
Magnus gave his daughter a loving look for a moment before Jace cleared his throat to grabbed their attention.
“Now it’s your turn to pay up.” Clary notifies. Clearly, want to rush the deal a bit.
“Yes,” Magnus agree. “Well… I wish I could retrieve your memories but I no longer have them.”
“What?!” Clary exclaimed softly in horror.”Where are they!?”
“I fed them to a memory demon for safe keeping.”
Jace glares. “Why the hell would you do that?”
“To protect Clary and the Cup.” Magnus states it like it was the most obvious thing in the world. “If Valentine would ever capture me. He could torture Clary’s memories out of me just like he tortured Dot.”
“Torture?” Clary repeats in both worry and confuse. “Wait, is Dot okay?”
Magnus and Y/N shared a glance before Y/N steps down to her. “You don’t know?”
Clary didn’t answer, which clears Y/N suspicions. “Dot is dead.”
Soft grief immediately formed on the redhead’s face. “What?… How do you know?”
“We can’t feel her magic anymore.” Y/N explains softly for her. “Valentine killed her because she would not betray your mother.”
“Oh my God.” Clary mutters in disbelief with as well as despair.
Magnus followed his daughter’s steps and gently grabs Clary’s arm. “Come with us, Clary. My lair could offer you protection no Shadowhunter could ever could.”
Jace scoffs at the idea.
“No,” Clary frees herself from Magnus’s hold. “No, I’m not going anywhere with you.”
“Don’t be a fool. Your mother would’ve wanted you to live.”
“Then help me get my memories back from whatever demon you give.” Clary snarled at him. “As for your offer. My answer is no. I won’t hide from my problems and neither should you.”
Y/N then steps in front of Magnus and gave Clary a soft but hard look that was a bit intimidating for the Shadowhunter to take.
“You think this is about our safety? Do you think we care about your problems? Look around you.”
Clary looks behind and sees that most of the guests at the ball had taken off their masks and suddenly notices that there were a few children in the venue. Some of them were toddlers, but most of them were in their preteens.
“This isn’t about cowardice or bravery, those are your costs. Our cost is the people you see before you.” Clary Then looks back at her as Y/N continues.
“You may have lost someone, but how many do you think that we’ve lost? Every man, woman, and children in this room had felt the taste of Valentine’s bloodlust. The worst part is that it was only a drop of what we had experienced throughout those horrible years.” Y/N looks over Clary’s head and saw the respected looks that she was receiving from the floor. But she stopped briefly to stare at a certain pair of black eyes.
Alec didn’t know what to think. After listening to Y/N. He had suddenly felt a somewhat of respect for her loyalty to her kind.
They stare at each other for a split second before Y/N looks back down at Clary and Alec took his chance to leave the crowd to search in the room for Izzy. He spots her near the other staircase and noticed how the way she silently signals him to come forward and points at the large doors behind her. Eyes alarmed and her whip was out.
Something was wrong.
“He’s planning something.” Y/N said. “And I will not have the people I grew up with, die for whatever cause he’s creating.”
“Jace!” Alec’s voice had suddenly called from the other side of the venue. By the looks of it, he has his bow and arrow out with a look that’s similar to his sister beside him. “Circle members.”
Everyone in the hall began to panic and some even screamed in fear. Luckily, some of the warlocks had started to create portals to escape the venue as fast as possible. Y/N acted fast and launches her hand at the gates of the other side to cast place a protective shield, long enough for their friends to evacuate to the protective wards.
Meanwhile, Magnus created a portal behind them. “Y/N,” He says.” You need to go. Make sure that everyone is settled. I’ll hold them off. Aggy, go with her.” He instructed at an older African American woman, who came by down to go to Y/N’s side.
Y/N shot him a frightened glance as she tries to take her wrist out of her surrogate mother’s hold. “No. I-I won’t leave you here!”
“You don’t have a choice,” Magnus argues. “Go. I’ll be okay.”
Hesitated, Y/N didn’t want to leave him to fight by himself. Anything could happen if they were ever apart in this kind of chaos. She couldn’t even bare imagine it. But he was right. She was the only person powerful enough to make sure the shields of their home was strong to fed off any Circle Members. She needed to go.
Before any of them could speak. A loud boom echoed the hall, it was so powerful that the chandelier started to shake by its noise.
“Go!” Magnus yells. Leading her to the front of the portal.
So without another word. Y/N kissed her father’s cheek and went into the portal with Aggy following behind. After then, the portal disappeared. Along with the High Warlock’s daughter.
The Girl Who Cried Wolf Chapter 4
Me trying my hardest to post regularly and on time. Here’s a longer chapter :) Kudos to you if you recognise where I got the idea for this chapter^^
Pairing: Peter X MJ
Summary: MJ tries to stop Peter from seeing her artistic side.
Tumblr media
“No.”
“Oh come on, this is gonna be awesome!” Ned laughed, holding up a pamphlet. “Queesnborough Community College Art Show,” he read. “Listed artists: Michelle Jones.” At this he turned to MJ with a cunning smirk. “Yeah, we’re totally going.”
“No,” she repeated. “You’re not.”
“How’d you even get a spot at the art show anyways?” Peter asked through a mouthful of sandwich. “I thought they were only showcasing their own students.”
“I am one of their students,” MJ dropped casually. “I’ve been taking classes with them part time.” She popped another french fry into her mouth before turning the page on Goodnight Mister Tom, seemingly oblivious to the silence that had followed her announcement.
“WHAT?” Ned gushed.
“Oh we’re so going to this show,” Peter decided at the same time.
“How could we not have known?!”
“There’s no way you’re stopping us.”
“I mean we’re your best friends!”
“Even if I have to get Mr. Stark to cover my patrol that night…”
“I’m actually hurt that you didn’t tell us!”
“He might actually come too, if I told him.”
“I feel like we’ve failed as best friends for not knowing everything that happens in your life.”
MJ shut her book with a thud and looked up, effectively silencing them. “No,” she spoke. Such a simple word that held so much weight.
“Okay, okay,” Ned chortled. “We won’t go.”
“Oh, we’re totally going,” Peter argued. “In fact, we have to get the flashiest brightest suits we can find to pretend like we’re important art buyers-”
“Art collectors,” MJ supplied.
“-you know what I meant-”
“And art collectors don’t necessarily wear flashy loud suits to art shows.”
“Still gonna do it,” he grinned deviously.
“The art pieces aren’t even for sale,” she protested. “It’s just an exhibition to showcase the school’s students!”
“Still. Gonna. Do. It.” His grin did not drop.
The defeated sigh that followed made Peter’s grin widen at his victory. “I’m gonna be so embarrassed,” she muttered.
“Aunt May I know I said 8:00 on the dot but there was this car chase that I had to stop because there was a lady pushing her baby across the street and I only just got done dealing with the cops and Mr. Stark-”
“Pete,” his aunt interrupted. “Breathe. Do you want to meet me there? I can take a cab down.”
“Oh my heck Aunt May you’re the best I’m so sorry I love you.”
“I love you too, Peter,” she laughed, before hanging up and whistling down a cab.
Okay, he thought. Right down Park avenue, turn on 6th and head straight to Calmac, then turn left. C’mon c’mon c’mon!! He reached the dumpster where he had hidden his backpack, hastily snatched it up before swinging off into the night again. C’mon, you’re Spider-Man! Swing faster!
As he approached his destination, he could see Aunt May getting out of the yellow taxi. Immediately, he landed behind the shrubbery and hastened to changed, almost declaring war on his pants for not cooperating. First thing this weekend will be a discussion with Mr Stark about making changes between costume and civilian easier. Heckin’ pants.
“Aunt May!!” He called out, still struggling with his sneakers. “Over here!”
“Goodness Peter,” she giggled, turning around. “There’s no need to be that excited. We’ve still got…” she looked down at her watch. 9:20pm. “10 minutes left.”
“Yeah I’m really really sorry!” He took her hand and hurriedly led her inside.
“Oh wow, these kids are really good,” she marvelled, looking around.
“Mmhmm,” Peter replied distractedly. “Aha! There she is! MJ!”
A mess of beautiful curls whipped around to reveal a face that was filled with surprise. “Peter?” She almost whispered in surprise.
“I’m so sorry I’m late,” he finally stopped, looking up to catch his breath. “There was a huge thing with the police and a baby and-” he looked around. “Ah I’ll explain it to you another time.”
“You came,” she almost smiled, which made Peter grin as his stomach flopped against his rib cage.
“Of course we came!” He beamed. “We came to see amazing art!”
“We?” MJ suddenly looked confused.
“Hey MJ.”
She spun around again to see the tall redhead smiling at her warmly. “Aunt May,” She breathed. “You came too.”
“Of course, sweetie!” She smiled warmly. “This is important to you right?”
“Well…I mean…Um…” MJ struggled out a stutter.
“Oh hush,” May pulled her into a hug, and nobody, not even the seemingly apathetic MJ, could refuse an Aunt May Hug. “We’re all really proud of you. Now why don’t you start showing off to us?”
“Ok,” she mumbled, turning around, but Peter was already staring intently at her paintings.
“Holy crap you did oil paintings?!” He whistled. “This cannot be cheap.”
“Yeah I-”
“Dang, these are pretty amazing! Aunt May! Look, it’s Queens! You could see our apartment from here!”
“It’s not-”
“How did you get such detail with oils? I just make a messy blur and call it interpretive art.”
“You-”
“And this one’s Midtown! You even painted the school?? I thought you hated school!”
“I-”
May placed a gentle hand over Peter’s mouth. “Let the poor girl talk, you’re overwhelming her.”
Peter immediately blushed a deep red. He knew how he rambled when he got excited, but holy moly, he had no idea that MJ could paint, and paint so brilliantly at that. Looking at MJ, he noticed that the usually confident girl had a hard time looking him in the eye.
“Excuse me, sir, ma’am.”
They turned to see a staff member smiling at them. Possibly a student worker. Or a really really young professor. “The exhibition will be closing in 5 minutes. Can I help you with anything before we close?”
“Yeah!” Peter chirped. “Is purchase of these art pieces allowed?”
The staff member smiled again, warmly. “Purchase of the art pieces are between you and the artist,” she replied. “The purpose of this exhibition isn’t for the sale of art, but if the artist agrees, who are we to hinder their budding career?” Okay, so definitely a really really young professor then. A really really young professor who seemed really proud of MJ.
“Now, wait just a minut-”
“Aunt May! Can we buy one please?” Peter interrupted, eyes shining.
“Okay, Peter,” she smiled knowingly. She knew how much this meant to MJ, and how much it meant to Peter, but most of all, she knew how much MJ meant to Peter. Mum Instincts. “Just one though, ok?” She warned, as if allowing him to buy candy.
“Peter, you can’t,” MJ protested weakly. “These aren’t any good.”
“What’re you talking about?” He laughed. “As far as I’m concerned, you’re the best artist in this entire gallery!”
“I’m just a high school kid in a college exhibition,” she mumbled.
“And that’s what makes you amazing,” he replied, and he meant every word. Michelle Jones was an extraordinary person, and she didn’t need superpowers to get there. She just set her heart and mind to it, and she’d get there in a jiffy. Looking at the menu, his eyes settle on one and he knew. It was the New York Skyline while the sun was setting, and the streaks of gold, red, orange, and so many other colours burned his soul, and he loved it. It took him back to the previous week, and that little moment they had on her rooftop, where he resigned to love her with his whole heart, even if she never returned those feelings. “This one. I want this one. How much d’ya want for it, Ms Jones?” He teased.
“Nothing.”
He turned around, surprised, before being unexpectedly pulled into a hug, and as he hesitantly placed his arms around her, she whispered, “because I love you.”
He froze. No way. There’s no way. But before he could supply either question or answer, she’d pulled away and flicked him on the forehead.
“I’m kidding, loser,” she smirked. Oh, that wonderful terrible smirk that tore him apart and mended him back together again. “It’ll be 50 bucks. Do you have any idea how expensive oil paints are?”
“Yeah, I do,” he smiled shakily, although his heart was shattering all over again, and the pain in his chest threatened to double him over. “Good thing I asked Mr Stark for some cash before coming here.”
“In that case, it’ll be 70.”
“Hey!” he gasped in mock offence, but she’d already hopped forward and given May a big hug.
“I love you, Aunt May,” she said, distinctively more audibly.
“Aww honey!” cooed May. “I love you too!”
Peter smiled painfully. So it was that sort of love. The familial sort, where one never abandoned another. Not the sort of love he’d hoped, but a good sort anyways. How could he ever hope to capture the attention of a star? How could he wish to pocket that sun and make her his? He’d burn a whole in his hand and deprive the universe of her light. But today, he placed a smile on the sun’s face, and today, that was good enough.
