Notes: WELL, apparently the Zombie Illya AU is a thing now LOOOL. This is a combination of ideas I had written down when I first started writing this verse and things @ikeepwatchinghelicopters commented under the first fic, thank you for the inspiration! <3 Fair warning that Waverly doesn't come across too well in this fic, because as much as I like loving dad Waverly I love myself a messy agent/handler relationship, but I promise he does care and he does feel bad, it's just that, you know, when you have an immortal asset it would be stupid to NOT use him at all. Anyway. I like this verse, lots of suffering. might write more if I get inspired looool enjoy!

“I don’t think that’s a good idea,” Solo says, loud and clear, going off with the same subtlety as a bomb.

Waverly doesn’t betray any irritation at the interruption, but he swiftly closes his mouth and his attention switches to Solo, the calculating look on his face making Illya shudder. He fights the instinct to shift in his partner’s direction as Waverly calmly asks: “Excuse me?”

Solo doesn’t even blink. “He’s going to get caught,” he says, tightly, and if his anger is seeping through he can only imagine just how strongly he feels about it.

It’s—warming. Illya still isn’t completely used to it.

“Yes,” Waverly says, placidly. “As I was about to mention, I don’t think there is a way to pull this off without getting caught, not without pushing this back a few months, but I’m confident in Kuryakin’s ability to slip away.”

It isn’t misplaced confidence either: Illya has barely escaped with his life multiple times, back when he was still a living and breathing thing and he would be sent on missions that were nearly impossible to complete.

He was young and eager to prove himself, yet he still doubted, sometimes, that that was a complete coincidence. Oleg never seemed to like him much, always so stingy with praise and almost annoyed when he’d started pulling off mission after mission without much of a hitch, and if the timing of the near-impossible tasks could be attributed to an attempt at challenging him, since he was so good, Illya suspected he was trying to make him fail.

It didn’t really matter, it only drove him to try harder.

Is the secret wish canon in there?

If you're referring to the wish Timmy made to Stop Time, then, it's only partially canon here!

Cosmo and Wanda decided to steal Timmy a few days before he tried to make the wish. It was meant to be a kept secret until Timmy's birthday, but when Timmy approached Cosmo with that wish, well. Cosmo couldn't keep it secret that much longer.

Timmy did not successfully wish to be 10 forever. He didn't have to. Timmy Turner simply became a Fairy, instead.

This entire scene emotionally destroyed me but there's one part in particular that was like taking a knife to an already open wound.

So, Gon shuts down after the reveal that Kite was dead all along and his stunned and racing mind is disjointed and contradictory. Most of his statements fit into roughly three categories of desperate thoughts:

Vehement inability to process that Kite is dead. From the statement being repeated multiple times to the amount of "no"s everywhere on these pages.

Taking the blame for Kite's death, in a frankly horrifying show of self-hatred (especially given the context of what comes next).

Blaming Pitou and proclaiming that he "didn't do it" in an attempt to absolve the weight of his guilt.

Heartbreaking. But there's one thought here that's a bit different.

Throughout all of this, Gon has been adamant that Kite, and by extension the situation, can be "fixed" - after all, most every issue that's come up before on his adventures could be resolved nicely. But now, suddenly, it can't. Gon can't stand feeling powerless or helpless, and now he finds himself more helpless than he's ever been. And we get this.

"Somebody help me."

Gon is independent. Gon has a burning need to prove his worth through his own strength. Gon has a bad habit of equating "taking responsibility" with fixing things all by himself and rejecting help from others.

Gon has never pleaded for someone to save him before.

And it's just. Holy shit. Holy shit - he's a kid. He's just a kid. And in just a few pages, he's going to make a despair-fueled decision to throw away his life just to regain any semblance of power over a situation that was doomed to be unfixable from the start. He says, "Let it end. I don't care what happens to me now.", because this is the only way he can think of to make his pain and his guilt and Pitou all just stop, by losing himself to all of his power instead of his grief.

Sorry, most likely my memory being poor, but I thought Malleus' mom (don't know how to spell her name and too lazy to check how to spell it) was already an adult when Lilia ""proposed""?? Like I was always under the assumption that it was like a one-sided child crush on somebody completely out of your league you tend to have as a kid 💀

I don't think they say how old she was? although it's entirely possible I just misunderstood; my Japanese is...shaky. :') the actual line is "幼い頃に私に求婚したのは偽りか?", which I read as "isn't it true that you proposed to me as a kid?", and took as her being older than him, but not necessarily an adult (like, I was thinking of Lilia as being not quite a preteen and Mel being preteen/young teen). although I don't know if there's a connotation or something I'm missing that implies a bigger age gap, if that makes sense!

(and of course, I might also just be forgetting some other line -- if someone else knows, then please correct me! I need to know which headcanons need adjusting 👀)

BUT YEAH in a canon-y sense, Malleus is 178 and around the third-years developmentally. which makes me think that even though dragons have a way longer lifespan, they go through childhood at about the same rate as most fae (or at least the kind that Lilia is) and just kinda...slow waaaaay down once they hit adulthood. so it makes sense in my brain that he and Meleanor could've basically grown up together!

...it makes it angstier that way, anyway. :)
