Easter = travel. Books are the latest "please give mama 20 more minutes" silver bullet. Unlike early days when she'd stare at the pictures, A is currently more interested in the book as I jest and how she can interact with it using all parts of her body. It's really more like gymnastics or wrestling than it is reading. I usually set out smaller books (especially if busy) but every once in a while we see how these moves translate to books as big as we are. #agnesinvestigates #booksasobjects #grossmotor #reggiobaby #artistresidencyinmotherhood

Saturday morning fun- a piece of parchment paper- sturdy enough to mouth, crinkly enough and big enough to be interesting. at 15 weeks, these are A's 3 favorite items- mylar, large silicon baking cups and a washcloth with netting that makes it rubbish for absorbing liquid but endlessly fascinating to grip, chew, pull apart, look through, etc. #artistresidencyinmotherhood #agnesinvestigates #reggiobaby #texture #light

tried some experiments with motion, noise and paint. the container was interesting, but unwieldy. the bag was a bit beyond where A's motor skills are, but combined (beans plus bag plus a little bit of air) they were exciting enough we had to pause before little fingers ripped the bag in a frenzy. next time- thinner paint, reinforce the edges with packing tape- maybe other ways to make noise? smaller beans? bells? #agnesinvestigates #artistresidencyinmotherhood #paint #motion #sound #green

The big sheet of rattles Mylar has been altered- cut down and solidly taped (as A is now big enough to tear it off the wall and shove it in her mouth.) now, instead, it's become little "windows", a way to experiment with point of view. This morning she was moving between them, sitting up, lying down, etc. It's been fascinating to watch how As relationship to materials changes over time. Idea stolen from candokiddo.com- using the holes in a laundry hamper to create an instant "grabby" wall. Laundry, especially folding it is A's favorite chore to do together. From waving dad's bright t-shirts to playing peekaboo with towels it's also just about the only chore I can almost always get through when she's awake...sometimes though, like today, nap/lunch take priority. #artistresidencyinmotherhood #freeandcheapfun #agnesinvestigates #texture #thingsinthings #itllbetheretomorrow

a new favorite- #roundthings (cardboard tubes sliced) presented in a #shiny tin. a seems to enjoy the tubes especially which are just right for grabbing and, after some work/slobber, chomping. the tin seems fascinating but frustrating- she grabs it, struggles to get part of it into her mouth, and almost instantly after chomping make an "argh!" noise and face. she seems totally uninterested in dumping/filling yet. #agnesinvestigates #artistresidencyinmotherhood #reggiobaby
