oof. already got several different questions on hsr new story, so i guess i'll just make one post explaining my opinion, bc like i dont really care if it somehow feels more boring, or animations are not good, or designs are bad. This is Narrative Critique The Blog, i care about good story and interesting exploration of a theme

so like. hsr 3.0 spoilers. we have this faux ancient greece, but with technology world that had like ancient gods they call titans. at some point these titans were corrupted by the abyss or smth and started attacking humans, but like not all of them i think? the one main god left a "prophecy" that said that like special human heros will need to kill titans and take their powers for themselves. then this god peaced the fuck out. humans are still worshipping these titans as gods btw.

so at some point our team of heroes meets one of the non-hostile titans. they need his help to kill another titan who is actively hostile and tries to kill all humans. the titan tells them that he's in pain and constant torture for hundreds of years, that its all humans fault, that these heroes are bloodthirsty butchers, their prophecy is a cruel sham and that he'd rather watch the world burn then help them.

and like. they just don't care. they have a sentient being who can communicate with them and tells them their beliefs are wrong and they are hurting him, and they do not even fucking ask wait what do you mean our prophecy is a sham? is there any way we can help you or at least lessen your suffering? do you maybe know why the corruption thing is happening and how can we stop it, so we don't have to kill the titans?

no, they go like. listen buddy, real pity you've been tortured for eternity or whatever, but if you dont do what we tell you, we're gonna kill you and take your power. like??? just absolute lack of any empathy, absolutely cruel myopic tunnel vision of only caring about yourself. like i don't care if they will subvert the prophecy later or not, even with what they have right now they SHOULD HAVE at least questioned it.

like imagine if this is how nahida talked to corrupted apep. imagine if instead of healing dvalin, venti was like hey sorry for your depression, but get the fuck out of mond or i will put you down like a dog.

like they really are bloodthirsty butchers tbh
