one of my favorite things about newsies fanfiction is who they ship crutchie with if it's not jack. they pick a random noun name from the ensemble, give him a backstory, then say "this is the one the wholesome one likes". we've all picked our different people for a reason and we stick with it in our narrative.

WIP Wednesday

I was tagged by both @blurglesmurfklaine and @somanywords so time to share for WIP Wednesday! I actually did spend some time writing today but was cut short/limited due to period cramps trying to kill me. Anyway! I'm actually pretty close to finishing chapter 2 of the juggling AU!

“What did I–” Jack groaned– “Maybe he did something to me.” “Uh-huh,” David said, unimpressed. “He was really angry last night.” “We were talking to our mom. We had an argument.” Jack shrugged. “It happens.” “And you can still apologize,” David said firmly. “Do it for me, so I don’t have to deal with him sulking. I didn’t know it was possible to silently read a textbook that loudly.” “That doesn’t even make sense, Davey.” Jack smiled. “But I’ll talk to him after practice.” He glanced over to where Race was juggling rings. “He’ll bite my head off if I do it now.” “Right,” David said. “Just let me know if you need me to stay out of our room for a bit.” “Race doesn’t like talking about serious shit,” Jack said suddenly. “Just, y’know. If you guys ever get into a fight.” David raised his eyebrows. “Even with you?” “Only on his terms,” Jack explained.

This isn't what I wrote today, but what I wrote today was less dramatic (Sarah and Katherine being cute but also afraid to make a move) so here we are

At this point I have been tagged by @lailuhhh and @agentsnickers so I am obligated to share a snippet of what I’ve been working on: 

David, the note began, Sarah and Les have left for the distribution yard. Mrs. Hochman will accompany me for my deliveries tonight. “Tonight” had blurred on the wet page, barely maintaining it’s form, hazy like a mirage, like the skyline behind the smoke, like the sun behind the clouds, like the world behind his mother���s lace curtains. The following words—If you see Sarah on your way back, please remind her to get the flour–swam.  

David dug the heel of his hands into his sockets and wiped away the tears. 

The next three lines took up almost two inches of the paper. All of them were different lengths. All of them were scratched out. All of them were completely indecipherable as the ink bled from black to blue and green and purple and brown. 

The water had only started to seep into the final line. It was perfectly legible.  

It is cold. Wear your long johns and your father’s extra gloves; I have not finished repairing the tear in yours.
