Bughaw

Callsign: "Blue" in Tagalog

Ramona Nicole Cabrera: Ramona is usually a feminine given name, the feminine form of Ramon (Spanish) and Raymond (Old German), meaning "wise protector". Nicole, a female name of French origin meaning “people of victory,” or “victory of the people.” Cabrera is a Spanish surname. It is the feminine form of "cabrero", meaning "goatherd."

Bughaw's blue fire was inspired by Azula (ATLA) and Dabi (BNHA). It's complete burning of carbon: I wanted the ruthlessness and precision needed to make hotter flames, compared to those of Phoenix which represent life and vitality. She chose her callsign to contrast her other names that had foreign origins. It's also to make people think of the sea and sky first, and associate that with her (usually when they're getting attacked). Plus, it's fun to see the other agents pronounce it. As for her real name: it's how Bughaw feels about her crew and the protocol. :)

Circe

Circe: an enchantress and minor goddess in Greek mythology. Circe was renowned for her vast knowledge of potions and herbs. Through the use of these and a magic wand or staff, she would transform her enemies, or those who offended her, into animals.

Dominique Drew: Dominique is a unisex French name of Latin origin that means "of the Lord." Drew is both a surname and a given name. The origin of the name is based from the old Greek andreios for "brave" or "courageous."

Circe matches Phoenix's callsign in being resilient, creating new things, and flat-out Refusing to Die. The name speaks for itself. A lot of her abilities cook up illusions and mystery, while also helping her team—only her team (for now). Dominique grew up celebrating the traditions of her hometown, but wants freedom to travel the world and to see other cultures. While her dads call her "Minnie," both she and Bughaw can be nicknamed "Nicky." I also wanted her to share a surname with Nancy Drew (girlboss).

Astra

Here's my second spy-villain duo YAYYY!! They have that enemys yuri going on... I generally have a solid idea of the rest of the cast's roles and dynamics. Just need to doodle them soon ,':] These two were fun to design and brainstorm for! (Though, gentle reminder, I'm not a mobility aid user myself so any helpful tips for improvement are very welcome! Bughaw uses other mobility aids, forearm crutches are just the main aids she uses)

Agent Bughaw is Verte's boss/handler - she gives Verte the rundown and gives her advice throughout the mission. Though, Bughaw always finds herself as a friend and confidant to her fellow agents. She used to be a field agent for a good few years until she transferred herself to the handler position. Smart and cool-headed, though surprisingly sensitive to other's problems. She follows a strong moral code, which may or may not have been why she changed her role in the agency.

Miss April Fools is the League's primary field agent/assassin. Being the most charismatic and the most social of the group, she's most frequently sent to recon missions that requires more smooth-talking and less fist-fighting. She's not one to be underestimated, however - she harnesses the humor and the capacity for violence of a living cartoon character, and she's truly unpredictable when she's allowed to get her hands dirty.

I've got an Idea of their first meeting, which is obviously not the best first impression to have of each other.................. but yuri will always PREVAIL.

FINALLY... the last duo! The Agency's fairly new tech wiz and the League's top mastermind. What do they have in common? Well...

Indigo is deemed as one of the Agency's most successful captured targets (though she'd say she turned herself in on her own accord). An extremely talented engineer who had close relations to their biggest target yet? She'd be the Agency's biggest asset...if she was a little more cooperative to them, that is. While she has yet to spit out enemy secrets, she's willing to help invent all sorts of tools and weapons in exchange for her protection. She was handed over to Agent Bughaw to help their little team, since Indigo inexplicably only listens to her (...most of the time). Despite being part of a secret agent group (and previously a villain troupe), she always seems to be bored out of her mind, even when she's inventing top-of-the-line secret agent tools. Her tendency to mess with her own teammates just to feel entertained hasn't endeared her towards the others as much...

Doctor Axyon has been identified as the League's leader and mastermind, though she doesn't do field missions herself. There's not much known about her for now, but she must be the one pulling the strings behind the League's movements. Who knows what her end goal really is...? Well whatever it is, the agents must put a stop to her machinations once and for all.

idk what these are to be honest. some sillies. technically I could've added joyness in there but I wanted disgust to have two ships since fear has two as well. equality <3

then it kinda spiraled into me having more ship thoughts for verte. and by ship i mean relationship in general. and can i derail this by saying we need to have a fandom term for relationships that aren't exclusively romantic? you'd think 'ship' would be the best thing but it's literally tied to romantic ships. which is kind of a shame.

anyways this is a pretty roundabout way of saying that ive decided to make the lead spy aromantic demisexual. I like to think she has something going on with indigo (and . roz? and . the professor?????) but no one could figure out what the fuck it is.

If you ask me I'd say I love teams that are still trying to figure out how to work together. so here's some bonding moments! the traditional one was a bit hellish because of the paper but it turned out more alright than I expected!

Verte doesn't need to put on her heavy makeup when she's not out in the field. she's got a scar on the left side of her face that's pretty much healed.

Requests are technically closed rn but I also really wanted to draw the gay women.............................so I'm using this as an excuse to draw them. sorry they're kind of insufferable someone needs to get them away from me before i explode them with my mind (JOKE)

Okay, phew. I've been trying to get this done for a while now because I want to draw Bughaw more...and I NEEDED to polish and get used to drawing her crutches first. Here's a compilation of notes for how she uses them and the tools that she has inside them! It also took me a while to decide what tools to actually give her. Using the more lethal weapons (like an actual gun/sword in the lower chambers) was a potentially cool idea, but I know she'd never use them, much less ask for them. I'm pretty satisfied with what she has right now!

Technically she also has a wheelchair (...custom made by Indigo as well), I'll tackle that one next time. Also again I'd like to note that I'm not a mobility aid user, so any feedback on the crutch design would be immensely helpful!! I tried my best to research their structure and tried to design around that.

Adding some more notes beneath the cut that I didn't add in here:

The "pogo" mechanism can be used to deliver impacts, like she can compress the spring inside, hold it, then release against someone.

Additionally the pogo mechanism can be used in conjunction with the blade and grappling hook for even further reach (however Bughaw rarely uses that for the blade)

Both the blade and grapple hook can be used as picks to grab hold onto tricky surfaces (grapple hook claws can retract halfway to form the ice pick variant)

She can wield a crutch by the lower chamber. That combined with the shield could make for a paddle if she needs it.

When using the upper chamber tool, Bughaw usually angles it so that the upper chamber's straight with her arm. See the lower chamber angled up. Technically she could also angle her wrist up, but it's only effective with the taser since she doesn't have to aim.

Bughaw's the third behind Roz and Hellforge when it comes to physical strength. The added weight of her custom crutches is barely noticeable to her really. Her upper body strength also allows her to swing and move a little quicker on her mobility aids.

Technically she Could balance herself without her crutches, but it limits her movement by a lot.

AHHH some relationship charts I made from a little while ago :] I had to separate them into groups first because HOO boy. There's way too many arrows in there. Took me a While to arrange the second image because the arrows became so damn incomprehensible KJDSFH

These represent their relationships at the start/early on in the story, and obviously you will see some developments the more I start actually working on the damn thing /lh So, no, I'm not going to elaborate every relationship here, you'll eventually see it in future stuff from me. Yippee!

Omg Roz is the son of the director? Who is the director? Did they not raise him? Is that why he’s so touch starved?? Does Agent Bughaw know this about him and that’s why she kept him on?

Roz is the son of the director yes! That's. All I'm gonna say on the matter, because as much as I'm excited to yap about this mystery director, she's a character for much later. Bughaw knows that Roz is the director's son (anyone who's anyone in the agency knows her name). What I'll say is that Bughaw has a lot of reasons to keep Roz on the team.

To make up my vagueness on the subject, here's a little bit about Verte's first impressions on Roz. To be fair, she never has good first impressions on anyone.

Oh! Gene, do they all have nicknames for one another? I assume the villains more so? (Also, I'm working on smtg, should be done tonight hopefully! ^^💜)

Some of them use nicknames yeah! It actually depends on the person SKDJFH I don't have specifics right now but the people most likely to use nicknames are:

Bughaw - she uses nicknames derived from her coworkers' real names, but only when they're off the clock and when she's speaking to that agent privately (Dani, Emmy, Ernie). She's the only one that does this out of the agents. Otherwise she defaults to codenames/first names when in public.

Verte - she often avoids calling anyone by their names unless she's being really serious/she's comfortable with the person. Her nicknames tend to be insults...unless she respects the person immensely, then they're more affectionate (calling Indigo smartass vs. calling Bughaw babe).

April - extensive nickname user and enjoyer. Very much a sign of affection.

Hellforge - also kinda like Verte where he uses nicknames as an insult (though with close friends he does it playfully/lightheartedly), otherwise he'll just call them by the name he knows them by.

Details may change in the future, but personally I think Axyon and Emile in particular use petnames a lot, but those are for close relations only - otherwise they don't use a lot of nicknames. Roz is too new to nicknames to use them himself, and Terror's fine with using people's names SDFSDKJH
