Translation Notes

*Verb is 散る(scatter / disperse/ fall). Initially I translated it as “Within this moment, disperse, disperse, disperse” since pronouns are typically omitted in Japanese, but then reading the rest of the lyrics I realized it may be the singer saying this to another character, which I think would then make it closer to something like “Scatter (away from me) right now!” hence “Get away from me right now!”

**First line technically is closer to “Always, always, always” or “Forever and ever and ever” but the three lines together would more directly mean “Always, always, always / Before I could prove love, always / I don’t want to believe shit like ‘love is a feeling’” which I think would be better translated to “Never, never, never do I— / Before I can prove love— / Never do I want to believe shit like ‘love is a feeling’” simply because I wanted to keep the first line’s repetition to match the section before this one.

***Original lyrics don’t actually swear, but 愛情が感情なんて信じたくない has a rather strong tone due to using なんて for emphasis. なんて can be used for emphasis like 「愛が感情なんて」(“Stuff like ‘love is a feeling’” / “Shit like ‘love is a feeling’” / “Love is a feeling’, this sorta thing”)

Akebi's Sailor Uniform Idol Character Miki Fukumoto's Mini Album will be Available on February 23

    Miki Fukumoto, voiced by Shuka Saito (You Watanabe in Love Live! Sunshine!!), is an idol character in the winter 2022 TV anime Akebi's Sailor Uniform that the protagonist Komichi Akebi admires. Her six-song mini-album "hem" including the insert songs used in the anime story is set to be released on February 23, 2022.

  The CD jacket illustration of the album has been revealed. It features the cover art of Miki Fukumoto, which appeared on the screen of the smartphone that Akebi and her friend Kei Tanigawa were sharing earphones in the anime's latest third episode.

6thフルアルバム『C2』から約1年5ヶ月ぶりとなる7thフルアルバム。デビューミニアルバムである『GIRL FRIEND』から11年後の同日発売となった。まず、こうして新譜が届き、こういった形で感想を述べることができていることが既に感慨深い。

今作に関しては、これまで以上に、前情報を入れずに聴く場合もとても楽しめるものになっているだろう。ただ、ここで前作までと��大きく異なる点がいくつかあり、ここは説明を加えておくと、今作から結成当初からのメンバーであったギタリスト･湯浅将平が2016年3月にバンドを脱退し、3人体制となって初めて制作されたフルアルバムである。これまでバンドは”メンバー4人以外の音を使わない”という制約を課しながら彼らだけの音楽を作ってきたが、今回の脱退を機に、その鎧を脱いで新鮮な空気に触れた。実際、今作を聴くとイントロから煌びやかなエレクトリックピアノ、シンセサイザーといったシーケンサーを用いた音が彼らの生音とともに鳴っている。

こういう背景を排して一聴しても、単純に2017年のロックアルバムとして強く光る1枚だと思えるはずだ。1曲目の“すべては君のせいで”から、前作の流れも汲むファンクミュージック的なアレンジから、“Low way”や“寛解”など、エレピのアクセントが引き立ったり、ドラマチックな展開が強く輝く“Daring”まで、実に幅広く、とても聴きごたえのある全8曲である。

歌詞に関しては帯にも示されている通り“2周目の〈青春〉”がテーマになっており、こちらも前作で少しずつ現れていた流れを大きく反映させたものと考えることができる。急に若々しさを取り戻したい訳では毛頭なく、むしろこの現在地点から眺める、今作のもうひとつのテーマである〈パラレルワールド〉にも似た、青春の風景に円熟味を感じる。

今作では小出祐介の作家性も大きな役割を果たしており、複雑な構成や物語の風景や情景などが顕著に光が当たっており、視点／視座をテーマにシーンや世間に対するカウンター的な文章を展開していた前作（ただし先述のとおり前作の中でも｢不思議な夜｣や｢どうしよう｣では今作の片鱗も伺わせていた）よりも、鮮やかに、美しく描かれていることが感じ取れる。

事が起きた2016年3月の時点で、彼らは“まだやりたいことがある”と表明した。今作を作り上げたことでまたバンドが始まったかのような新鮮さがあり、先述したとおりデビュー日の発売ということもあり、今作が2度目、2周目のデビューなのではないかと感じることができた。これでもう、安心できる再スタートを切れた。

 I worked with Suzutani-san, for the first time in five years, who helped me on my debut album with Mosou Controller, Kakuseiya and Escape Game.
