On January 6th 1980 in Palermo Piersanti Mattarella, Presidente della Regione Siciliana and brother of our actual Presidente della Repubblica Sergio Mattarella, got murdered by a mafia's killer with a shot while he was going by car to the Church with his wife and mother-in-law. One of the first people to come to the rescue has been his brother. And one of the most famous shots about that tragedy showing Sergio Mattarella holding his brother and taking him out of the car was taken by the famous photographer Letizia Battaglia (if you watched the two-episodes movie about her, you may remember that scene).
