Looking at the Medal of Honour on his nightstand, Javert felt a hollow emptiness.
There was a time, once, when he could feel pride in his achievements.
Looking at the medal, he could think only of his failure to catch that man, of denied pleasure, of denied peace.
There was a time, once, when he dreamt of gaining respect and recognition.
Now, the thoughts and memories of that man devoured him, haunted his waking hours and dreams, stole his sleep. And as long as that man evaded chains, Javert would never be free.
-
He should have never received the medal.

George Weasley x Fem!Reader
Word Count: 868
Warnings: none!
A/N: i’m literally writing jealous!george in the middle of one of my zoom classes, it’s official weasley twins brain rot hours sigh. it occurred to me after reading a haikyuu hc list and i ran to write it (which, by the way, if ya’ll want me to start writing haikyuu stuff, please let me know, i love those boys with my life). anywho, hope you enjoy <3
***
George was always considered the softer of the twins, from his understanding nature to his voice of a reason. He was a shoulder to lean on, a listener in crisis, empathy being a trait of his that he wore like a medal of honor.
Naturally, this translated into his habits as a boyfriend. He was always soft spoken with his significant other in heated and intimate situations. Reasoning always came first before argument in conflict. He was never quick to anger, small things rarely riled him up enough to make him want to act out. Aside from today.
Today, George had been running a particular irritated streak as the week leading up to Valentine’s day had seemingly brought out everyone’s secret obsession with his girlfriend. The incessant love notes, the not so secret glances, all of it itched a nerve of his he didn’t think he had.
Which is why when the free period rolled around and he found himself glaring down a guy who might as well have not seen George at all, he had finally burst that nerve and decided enough was enough.
He spread his legs wide as he leaned back onto the bench the two of them were sharing out in the courtyard, his arms extending behind her and pulling her as close as he could, his eyes pointed like daggers at the guy lounging across the courtyard.
“George, darling, what’re you doing?” [y/n] quipped, looking up from the planner in her hands.
“Nothing,” he grit, not wanting to let his bubbling anger and jealousy translate into his communication with her, “be a doll and sit on my lap won’t you?”
[y/n]’s head snapped up at his request, her eyes bulging as she replayed his words in her brain, “George,” she paused trying to find her own words, “Not here, in the courtyard,” she mumbled, eyeing all the other students nervously.
“I’m not gonna do anything crazy, just work with me, yeah?” George muttered, keeping his gaze locked on the unrelenting stare of the boy across from them.
“If you say so-oh!” [y/n] squealed as George pulled her into his lap without a second though, her hands shooting out to brace herself on his shoulders, her heels knocking against his calves, “Maybe I could’ve gotten a heads up first?”
“No time,” George replied simply, a short-lived smirk playing on his lips as the guy seemed taken aback for a moment.
“George, you’ve got to tell me what’s going on-,” [y/n]’s voice trailed off as she followed his line of vision, the light bulb in her head flickering to life as she processed why he was acting to strange. oh. George was jealous.
“Ever since this damned Valentine’s week started people have been acting like I don’t exist and frankly darling,” He drawled, reaching forward, curling his fingers around the back of her neck, “I’m sick of it.”
“You know I’ve only used those love notes as kindling for the common room fire, right,” [y/n] smiled softly, happy to indulge him in his fit of jealousy, which she found extremely attractive, though she would never admit it out loud.
“I know,” He mumbled, finally breaking eye contact with the guy to look at her, “you’re too good to me to do that.”
“Aw, you flatter me,” [y/n] gushed, reaching forward and carding her fingers through his hair.
“I can’t help it, y’know. I get why they look at you like that, you’re literally perfect. I just can’t stand that they look at you like that when I’m around,” He admit, relishing in the feeling of her fingers running through his hair.
“Well you’re in luck Weasley, cause they can look at me all they want, but I’ll still only have eyes for you,” [y/n] grinned, leaning forward and pressing her forehead against his.
“You’re wonderful,” George breathed, ghosting his lips over hers.
“Only for you dear,” [y/n] hummed, closing the gap and pressing her lips to his.
George swallowed the kiss hungrily, knowing that the slimy git who’d been watching you shamelessly could see him only fueling his fire. It took everything in George not to just hop to it and feel around your figure, grabbing at your hips and squeezing at your thighs like he usually did in the privacy of your own space.
When the two pulled away [y/n] couldn’t help but let out a girlish giggle, tilting her head back as a laugh bubbled out from between her lips. George grinned mischievously, helping her off his lap and stuffing the few things she’d taken out of her bag right back into it.
“Come on,” George wiggled his eyebrows, grabbing her wrist and dragging her along with him.
“Oh, so we’re doing this now?” [y/n] bit back a smile, swinging her bag over her shoulder
“Oh please, like I haven’t been holding back all week, you’re in for it now,” George teased suggestively, “and before I forget,” He stretched out his arm and flipped off the boy who quickly whipped his head away from the two of them.
“George!” [y/n] gasped.
“What?! The sick bastard was asking for it anyway.”
“You’re unbelievable,” [y/n] scoffed, a lilt of amusement evident in her voice.
“You love it though,” George hummed.
“That I do.”
