Maybe it’s because I have had longstanding and transparent disdain for TFATWS, but I don’t get a lot of the criticisms for BNW. Shoot, maybe I really am grading on a curve, but imo BNW is a solid B if we’re grading against all MCU products.
Listen…
Would I have liked Cap villains? Yes. Would it have been awesome to get a Riley flashback and a little discussion of the parallels of Sam & Riley and Sam & Joaquin? Absolutely. Would I have loved to see some more of Sarah and the boys and maybe even get an in depth Gideon shoutout? Of course.
But, look, I followed enough of the production and saw enough rumors that I had already assumed that wasn’t happening. And, since I am not only a member of, but am also the President of The Malcolm Spellman Haters Club, I was holding my breath and expecting the worst when I first sat down in my theater, but guess what?
The movie was not the worst. As a matter of fact, it was good. It was a good action movie in general, and a good Captain America movie, specifically. And, most important of all, it consistently respected Sam, something TFATWS failed to do on numerous occasions.
Do you know how many times I’ve rewatched TFATWS? ZERO. ZILCH. NADA. I only pull up specific scenes when I need to reference something, but I cannot sit through the entirety of that thing again when most of it plays like a humiliation ritual for my favorite character.
Now, by comparison, I’ve already seen BNW twice.
Sam was respected in BNW. He was a skilled fighter, a skilled negotiator, a great leader. He was clever, and badass, and compassionate. He was awesome.
He was everything a hero should be. He was everything Sam Wilson has always been.
Look, put your beef with the plot of the film aside. We all already knew going into it that it wasn’t going to be the plot Sam or his fans would get in a perfect world. We’re probably never going to have social worker Sam, living in Harlem, fighting Cap specific villains. And we all know it, so is it really fair to judge the movie over things we knew from jump were not going to be in the movie? IMO it isn’t.
I have to look at the final product and judge it that way - how the Sam Wilson character was treated and handled within the setting TPTB dropped him in.
And when I do that, I’m satisfied.
He wasn’t a “magical negro,” he was a hero trying to save his friend and a lot of other people. He wasn’t constantly being bullied and disrespected by his co-worker, his wannabe co-worker, and damn near every other character around him. Instead, he was loved and respected by his inner circle, and respected by practically everyone he encountered. He wasn’t written as incompetent, his phone wasn’t going off in the middle of missions 🙄. No, he was an excellent strategist, incredibly clever, and a great fighter. He was compassionate, even to his enemies.
I’m rambling now, and I don’t even know quite how to phrase it, but…
The MCU was never going to give us comic accurate Sam Wilson, but they did give us comic Sam’s essence. They gave us his personality and skills. They gave us a good man, and it was a good movie with great acting, and it really just feels like a lot of these complaints I’m seeing are a reach, especially considering that we all know how the MCU works and we all knew what this movie was going to entail before it was even released.
You didn’t like it? That’s your prerogative. But when you’re criticizing it, at least make sure your criticisms make sense within the context of the MCU and how Sam has previously been written.
#hmmm this was just a long winded way of saying:#after the falcon and the winter soldier i don’t see how any sam fan could NOT like this movie#sam wilson#captain america#captain america: brave new world spoilers

Don’t Give Me Up
Bucky Barnes x Reader, Platonic!Sam Wilson x Reader
Summary: You were on the run from SHIELD. When Bucky and Sam find you, will they turn you over, or will they help you?
Word Count: 2.3k
The cold night air grazed the faint hairs on your skin; causing shivers through your body. “This is so stupid” you mumble to yourself as you move through the dark corridor. Running from SHIELD was certainly not on your to do list for the week and yet here you were; accused of murdering one of their agents.
Your feet were light on the ground; after you’d lost the agents coming after you, you figured you were in the clear but better safe than sorry. You continued to make your way through this abandoned warehouse, your eyes struggling to adjust to the light.
Soon you heard a shuffle behind you, causing you to holt to a stop. Your heart pounded in your chest as you kept your head facing forward.
“I’m not gonna hurt you” the voice said from a few feet behind. You turned around slowly, carefully.
Your eyes locked in on him as you turned; you cocked your head as you realised who it was. The Winter Soldier… well, ex- Winter Soldier from what you heard on TV.
His eyes focused in on you as you stepped back, looking around for a way out of this.
“I didn’t kill any agents” you said quickly, somewhat panicked.
“Yea I figured” he replied as he looked you over. “You don’t look like the murderous type” he added with a huff.
A deep breath escaped you as you sighed in relief, finally someone didn’t believe this crap.
“But” he said as he stepped forward, “you do know something”.
“I don’t” you answered quickly, keeping your hands out. You continued to back away until your shoulders hit the concrete wall behind you.
Within a few seconds, The Falcon was running around the corner; stepping beside Bucky. It was enough seeing one superhero, and now you had to deal with two? Great.
“Just come with us” Sam Wilson said, keeping his voice calm in an attempt to make you feel comfortable.
You realised then that to the left of you, there was an open space between piles of crates. Might as well take your chances.
You bolted.
Weaving through the wooden planks and out into the wide warehouse. It was huge with no place to hide. You headed for the door on the opposite side as Bucky and Sam went after you. It didn’t take long before a hand caught your arm; pulling you back.
The force came so quickly, you thought you might go flying. Bucky’s hands held your arms down as you struggled, attempting to pull yourself away from him.
“Take it easy” he said calmly, as though keeping you still was no effort to him whatsoever.
“Let go of me!” You yelled as you continued to push and kick at him. His metal arm wrapped around you, holding you still.
“You’re gonna hurt yourself if you keep that up, sweetheart” he exclaimed before you finally began to calm down. You had no chance against him, that much was clear.
“We’re not going to hand you over to SHIELD. Not yet” Sam said as he stepped in front of you. His eyes looked over to Bucky, gesturing for him to let you go.
Bucky’s arms dropped away slowly and you stepped away from him, with a scowl on your face. Bucky sighed as he stood where he was.
Your eyes looked back at Sam now as your mind raced. As far as you knew, these men worked for SHIELD.
“What do you want then?” You questioned before clenching your jaw in frustration.
“We want you to tell us what’s really going on” he answered.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about” you replied quietly.
“I think you do” he answered.
“You might not have killed an agent, but you know more than you’re leading on” he added as his eyes scanned your face.
You looked away now, taking in a few breaths; contemplating. You weren’t exactly a fan of these superhero guys; how could you really trust them not to turn you over?
Whilst you were too busy thinking to yourself, SHIELD agents burst in through the doors; their guns raised and aimed at you.
Your arms immediately rose, praying to god they would not fire. Sam and Bucky looked at each other, clearly shocked as the agents grabbed you. You were roughly hauled to the ground as handcuffs were placed on your wrists behind your back.
“Hey. Easy” Bucky said as he walked over with his hand out.
“You’re under arrest” the agent announced to you, ignoring Bucky’s words before he lifted you back to your feet.
Agents were swarming you, keeping Sam and Bucky out of your line of sight as they drew you away. You were screwed now.
-
It had been hours since you arrived here; sat in the middle of a small white room with your hands cuffed on the table in front of you. No one had spoken to you since you were thrown in here. Your head rested down against your arms whilst you focused on breathing slowly, staying calm. Should you ask for a lawyer? Does SHIELD even allow lawyers? You sighed… this was a mess.
Time continued to pass until the door swung open; causing your eyes to snap up.
“Shit” you mumbled to yourself once you recognised it was Sam and Bucky walking into the room. They sat down across from you, their eyes locked in on you.
You pulled yourself up in your seat, trying your best to remain brave despite the fact that you were losing your mind with each passing second.
“You ready to talk to us?” Sam said carefully.
You pursed your lips before speaking “So much for not handing me into SHIELD” you retorted causing Bucky to look down as he smirked to himself.
Your eyes shot daggers at him as your attention turned over to himself instead of Sam. “What’s so funny?” You questioned.
“Nothing” he replied, throwing his hands up. You sighed as you looked back over to Sam.
“Why don’t you just tell us your side of the story?” He asked with a gentle tone.
“My side?” You questioned. “My side is- I didn’t kill anyone” you answered firmly.
“Then tell us who did” Sam said causing you to stop, processing your thoughts.
“What makes you think I’d know something like that?” You asked, feeling your heart rate pick up.
Bucky looked over at Sam now as they exchanged looks.
“Why else would you run?” Sam returned .
Your jaw clenched as he spoke. You needed to keep your mouth shut. No one could know what you had seen. They’d kill you. Sam and Bucky noticed your refusal to speak.
“We can keep you safe” Sam said, almost as though he was reading your mind.
“I don’t need your help” you replied quickly as your eyes darted between the two of them.
Bucky leaned forward now, his hands on the table as his eyes locked with yours.
“Who are you really running from?” He questioned.
You avoided his eyes, gulping. Your hands now rested in your lap, you wished you could crawl inside yourself and disappear.
“No one” you replied quietly, trying to push away the flood of memories attempting to appear. Their screams echoed in your mind as you shook your head.
“Let us help you” he said, wishing you would trust his words.
“What are you two doing in here?” An agent yelled as he stormed into the room; his eyes locked on Sam and Bucky.
Bucky let out a sigh as Sam stood up, facing the agent. “We just needed to ask a few questions” he answered.
“On what authority?” The agent questioned.
Bucky’s eyes were on you as Sam went back and forth with the SHIELD agent. Soon the agent was kicking them out of the room. You didn’t spare them a glance as they left, hoping you would not have to speak to them again.
-
Hours passed when you were finally dragged into a cell; the concrete walls surrounding you. This place looked as though it was fit to hold the Hulk and yet here you were, deemed to be such a threat. You rolled your eyes at the thought.
You laid down on the flimsy mattress; you back feeling the metal bars beneath it. The darkness swallowed you whole as you thought you could hear your own heart pounding in your chest.
The small ceiling loomed over you, enclosing you in this small space. You figured at least this was the safest place you could be. It wasn’t long before you drifted off, the exhaustion taking over.
-
You woke to the sound of gunshots, causing you to shoot up. What the hell? You whispered to yourself as you stood up. Through the small glass panel in the door, you could see men running with weapons drawn. You immediately ducked down, hoping to stay out of sight.
“Fuck, fuck, fuck” you chanted as you moved back. This can’t be good.
As the gunfire continued, you saw blood splattered on the glass of the door. You felt your stomach drop.
The door flew open as men rushed in. These were no SHIELD agents. A man’s hand wrapped tightly around your bicep; hauling you to your feet. You winced in pain at his grip; trying to pull yourself away. As you were walking out; he shoved you against the doorframe, inflicting pain as you moved. You couldn’t help the groan the escaped you.
The men split up, two of them moving with you whilst the others went the other way. SHIELD agents came running around the corner, but were quickly taken down. The man holding you still managed to fire with insane accuracy.
You continued down the hall, reaching the corner when suddenly the two men with you were pulled away. You felt yourself fall to the ground; keeping your head low. Your hands covered your face as you heard the guns going off.
A gun landed on the ground in front of you, causing you to gasp before you were lifted from the ground.
“Come with me!” A voice said from behind you. You turned around quickly to see Bucky standing before you. This time instead of arguing, you nodded quickly.
Bucky’s hand quickly grabbed yours as he guided you through the hall; you realised soon that he was aiming to get out of the building.
He held you behind him as men came into the haul. You watched as he took each of them down easily, barely breaking a sweat.
“What the f-“ you began to say before he tugged at your hand, continuing to move until you reached a stairwell. He looked over the railing to check for more men before you began to run down the steps.
You realised your fitness could use some improvement as you reached the bottom; yours lungs felt as though they were going to collapse. Watching Bucky move so easily made you curse him in your head.
Bucky pulled you out of the building and continued running until he approached a motorbike in the underground car park.
“Get on!” He yelled as he jumped on, urging you to get on the back.
“Oh god-“ you muttered before climbing on behind him; your arms wrapping tightly around his waist.
Within seconds, he took off; hearing the yelp that came out of as he accelerated. He took off into the streets as the sound of gunshots finally began to fade off into the distance. He noticed at no point did your grip loosen. If he was a normal man, he thought you would have suffocated him by now.
After what felt like a lifetime; he pulled into another underground parking lot. He turned off the ignition when he came to a stop and noticed your grip was still tight.
“You’re okay now” he said as he looked over his shoulder. You felt yourself breathing quickly; the adrenaline rushing through your veins.
“I think- I’m going to have- a heart attack” you panted. You felt him chuckle under your hold.
You eventually loosened your grip before he stepped off the bike. His arm wrapped around you gently as he guided you off. He began walking towards another door and you followed close behind. Your eyes looked up at you walked in the door.
“More steps” you sighed, not noticing Bucky’s small smile as you walked up each level.
When you reached the top, he lead you to a loft and let you walk in first. Your eyes widened, this place was huge. Bucky’s eyes were on you as you looked around with your lips parted, taking it all in.
“Sam should be here soon” Bucky announced as he walked over to the kitchen bench. You moved over past the couch; looking out the large window which gave a wide view of the city below.
You nodded as he spoke, not entirely processing what he was saying. He eventually walked over to you, his gaze softening.
“So… you’re not turning me over to SHIELD?” You asked softly before glancing over at him.
Despite his height and muscular frame (and the fact that you’d seen him take down several men with relative ease), he felt non-threatening.
“No” he answered plainly.
Your eyes traced the features of his face; why did it take you so long to notice how handsome he was? You shook your head slightly at your thought. Pull yourself together.
“But I think it’s time you talk” he added before letting out a breath. His voice wasn’t as stern as before; but you could tell he was serious.
You bit the inside of your cheek as you debated the issue with yourself.
“I can’t” you answered anxiously, your eyes looking down at your fingers.
He took a step forward, only standing a few feet from you. “I’m not gonna let anything happen to you” he said, matter-of-factly.
Your eyes shot up, staring into his.
“I don’t want anyone else to get hurt” you murmured before letting out a deep breath.
“Then let us help you” he replied.
Maybe you could trust him. Maybe you couldn’t. Right now, the best way to survive, is with him.

Madripoor
Requested by: MEEE cause this plot popped into my head the second I watched this episode
Summary: Bucky was just following Sharon’s advice to enjoy the party when he meets *yn*, what he isn’t counting on is that he most definitely won’t be staying out of trouble.
Warnings: THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER EP 3 SPOILERS YOU’VE BEEN WARNEDDDDD, fluff, swearing, violence
PART TWO (NAGEL)
--------------------------
“Lay low, blend in. Enjoy the party.” Sharon spoke as she made her way up the stairs. “Oh and try to stay out of trouble, I’ll see what I can find.”
“Trouble?” Zemo smirked.
--------
Sharon’s words echoed in Bucky’s ears as he made his way through the party. Sweaty bodies were pressed up against him as he ducked and weaved through the crowd. It felt like the pulsating music was drumming against his skull as he made his way up to the bar.
“I’m way too old for this.” He huffed out once he reached Sam, gesturing to the bartender for two shots.
“Old or lame? There’s a big difference.” Sam remarked as the pair simultaneously clinked their glasses together and skulled the liquid. Bucky smirked as he watched Sam cough and splutter.
“Now who’s the lame one?” Bucky chuckled, the liquid burning his throat.
“Maybe we both are. Look at Zemo, the dude may be weird but he’s got game.” Sam answered once he’d recovered.
Bucky followed his gaze to see Zemo dancing in between two women, both giggling and chatting animately. He watched as Zemo suddenly began pumping his arm enthusiastically to the beat as the girls watched him wide eyed, before exchanging glancing and slipping back into the crowd without another word.
“On second thought dude’s just weird.”
Bucky let out a chuckle as he leant forward and grabbed the beer that the bartender had left out for him. He took a swig as he turned back around to face the party. He automatically swept over area, his eyes sliding over the hundreds of faces as he looked out for any threat.
He paused as his eyes fell on a flash of bright red material.
Upon closer inspection he noted that the bright red material was in fact a silk dress that was covering the slender figure of a young woman. It was a halter dress that had a deep slit down the front and was almost completely backless, the silk material falling down almost to her ankles with another deep slit also running up her leg that exposed her thigh.
He felt his grip on his beer tighten as his eyes fell on her face, revealing a pair of eyes framed by thick lashes and lips painted with a deep plum lipstick. She was snaking her way through the crowd, gracefully dodging drunken people as they stumbled their way around on the dance floor.
As if she sensed his gaze her eyes flickered up and locked with his. The pair eyed each other for a few moments. She shot him a small smile before breaking their gaze.
“Now who would you be checking out hm?” Sam’s voice broke Bucky out of his almost trance like state.
“No one.” Bucky answered gruffly, glancing over at Sam to see him smirking at him.
“Sure Buck.”
Bucky ignored him and turned his head back to where the woman had been only moments ago. She was gone. He scanned the crowd and let out a small huff when he couldn’t see any sight of her.
“Now, I need you to educate me on this art so I can impress some of the ladies.” Sam spoke up again, dragging Bucky’s attention from the crowd.
“What’s that one?” He asked pointing at a nearby painting.
“That’s the Wedding at Cana, painted by Paolo Veronese in 1563.”
“1562 actually.”
Bucky swivelled around, a breath catching in his throat when his eyes fell on the bright red dress. He had no idea how she’d managed to somehow appear beside him without him noticing. He swallowed and ran a hand through his hair as he composed himself before answering, ensuring his face stayed void of emotion.
“I’m pretty sure it’s 1563 actually.”
His answer made her brow quirk up in amusement as she took a sip of her drink, her wrist twinkling due to a very expensive looking diamond bracelet dangling from it.
“Actually I think you’ll find it’s 1562. The copy in the Louvre might say 1563 but I suggest you take a peak at the original.” Her words made his eyes narrow as he studied her features.
“Well maybe I will.”
“Before you do that please feel free to continue educating your friend, I’m happy to sit here and correct you when you make another mistake.” She spoke, shooting him an overly warm smile which caused Bucky to grit his teeth.
Sam let out a low whistle as the smirk on her lips widened. “Damn Buck I think you might’ve met someone more cultured than you.”
“We’ll see about that.” Bucky muttered, taking a swig of his beer as he eyed her.
“So how does someone like yourself become so knowledgable about stolen art?” Sam asked her, his eyes darting between the pair in amusement.
The girl shrugged as she took another sip of her drink before motioning to the bartender. “I know a lot about a lot of things.”
“Really?” Bucky mused, this time it being his turn to raise a brow. “And does ‘miss knower of all things’ have a name?”
“Miss knower of all things does.” She answered as she grabbed the shot glass and pressed it to her lips. Bucky eyed her profile intently, noting the way her plump lips wrapped around the lip of the glass and her eyes screwed shut as she slung her head back to let the liquid slide down her throat.
“I love this song.” She remarked, finishing the remainder of her other drink before she rose from her seat. Bucky’s eyes followed her figure as she begun to make her way back to the dance floor. She paused and glanced over her shoulder, a smirk still present on her lips.
“You coming to dance with me or what Buck?” She queried, Sam’s nickname for him rolling off her tongue, amusement evident in her tone.
Bucky eyed her for a few moments before glancing over at Sam. “Sharon did say to enjoy the party.” Sam grinned.
“Try not to be too lame or old huh?” He continued, patting his shoulder encouragingly as Bucky rose from his chair.
“Thanks.” Bucky muttered as he cautiously approached the woman in red. Her smirk widened as he made his way towards her. “C’mon.” He heard her say as she leant forward and took his gloved hand in hers and tugged him into the crowd.
If she was saying anything to him, he couldn’t hear as he felt himself become engulfed in the crowd as she pulled him deeper into the dance floor. After a few moments she came to a stop and swivelled around to face him. He felt himself grow slightly red as she wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him closer, swaying her hips to the beat.
“Are you really not going to tell me your name?” Bucky spoke, practically shouting to make himself heard over the thumping base.
“Why do you want to know? You never danced with a stranger before?” She answered back.
“No I just- I usually know people’s names before I dance with them.” He replied which caused her to let out a small laugh. “Back in my day we used to go out to dinner first.” He added silently in his head.
His heart thumped against his chest as she pulled him closer to her and leant up so her lips brushed against the shell of his ear. “My name’s *yn*.”
“*yn*.” Bucky echoed, her smile widening at the sound of her name rolling off his tongue. “And what brings you to a place like Madripoor?”
“You ask a lot of questions.” She observed matter-of-factly.
Before Bucky could open his mouth to respond, *yn* twisted around, keeping one arm slung around his neck as she pressed her back up against his body. Bucky bit his lip to prevent a hiss from escaping his mouth as *yn* began to rotate her hips to the rhythm of the music, the fabric of her dress pressing against the material of his black suit pants.
This certainly beat online dating.
“Just relax, enjoy the party.” *yn* laughed breathlessly, echoing Sam’s words from before as she pressed even harder against him. Bucky let his eyes flutter shut as he felt his hands automatically move to grip her hips as he started to move his own body in time with the thumping bass.
His grip on her hips tightened as she lolled her head back against his chest, her hot breath fanning onto his neck as the pair moved in sync.
If only Steve could see him now.
As he grew more comfortable he let his gloved hands begin to wander, trailing over her lower stomach before gliding down her thighs. “What do you say we go find somewhere quieter to talk?” He heard *yn* murmur into his ear.
He felt *yn*’s body stiffen as his hands crept lower to just below her panty line. Before he could answer, her hand suddenly shot out to grip his wrist and cease his movements but not before his hand suddenly brushed over an unexpected bump on her leg.
A shape that felt suspiciously like a-
A hand suddenly clamped onto his shoulder causing him to jerk his hands away in surprise just as *yn* pulled away from his grasp. “I’m sorry to break up the party but Sharon’s found our guy-” Sam cut himself off as Bucky swivelled around to stare at him, his eyes wide in surprise.
“You good man?” Sam asked, concern written on his features when he noticed Bucky’s look of surprise.
“I-” Bucky cut himself off before looking back to *yn*.
His brow furrowed as his eyes instead fell on a drunk man currently sculling a beer out of a shoe. He frantically looked around, muttering a curse under his breath when he realised *yn* was no where to be seen.
It was like she had vanished without a trace.
“Oh painting girl pulled a runner? Don’t worry about it man happens to the best of us.” Sam comforted, patting his shoulder once more.
Bucky felt a ripple of suspicion wash over him but he decided against telling Sam about it as he finally pulled his gaze away from the crowd to look at Sam. “Let’s get Zemo. We should talk somewhere private.”
--------------------
“Alright what have you found?” Sam asked. Zemo, Bucky, Sharon and Sam were all piled into a private coat room located directly above the party. The bass was still so loud that Bucky could feel the vibrations through the tiled floor. The door was locked with a few security guards located outside and on the stairs leading up to the room.
Bucky sighed, his mind swimming with thoughts of *yn* as he ripped his gloves off. He couldn’t shake a feeling of suspicious that was gnawing at him that there was something off about *yn*.
“I’ve spoken to a few buyers and I’ve got a location on Doctor Nagel.” Sharon spoke, interrupting his thoughts. “He was pretty hard to track down but he’s definitely still here in Madripoor. He’s at the shipping yard.”
Bucky stiffened when he swore he head a thump outside the door, a thump that didn’t correlate with the sound from the party. He strained his ears and sure enough, another thump followed suit a few minutes lately.
“Bucky?”
“You sure no one can get up here?” Bucky queried, looking over to Sharon.
“I’m sure. This is a restricted area, I’ve got all the entrances guarded.” She answered, watching him as he made his way to the door.
“Bucky? What’s going on?” Sam asked.
Bucky held his hand up to signal everyone to be quiet as he pressed his ear against the wood. He held his breath as he listened intently. There were a few moments of quiet until he head another thump and a small moan.
Without warning Bucky ripped open the door and stepped out into the hallway. He nearly tripped over when his foot hit a solid form. He glanced down to see one of the guards lying at his feet, letting out low moans of pain. His eyes travelled down the hall to see all of the guards were either unconscious or were too dazed to get to their feet.
He froze when his eyes fell on an all too familiar red dress.
Bucky locked eyes with *yn*, her lips parted in surprise and chest heaving up and down as she tried to regain her breath. The pair stood frozen for what felt like an eternity, the silence almost deafening as they eyed each other.
“Bucky!” Sam called out, shattering the silence.
Bucky was only distracted for a split second but *yn* took it, turning around and sprinting down the stairs. “Hey!” Bucky shouted, taking off after her ignoring Sam’s shouts from behind him.
Bucky leapt down the winding stairs, catching brief glimpses of the red material before it disappeared around the next corner. Finally his feet planted on the lower floor. His eyes scanned the crowd, locking onto *yn*’s figure as she pushed through the crowd.
His jaw locked and he could feel himself enter into winter soldier mode as he stormed forward and plunged into the throng of people. He ignored protests and exclamations of surprise as he shoved people out of the way, parting them like the red sea as he kept his eyes focused on her like a laser beam.
*yn* glanced over her shoulder and the pair briefly locked eyes before she turned around once more and broke out of the crowd, sprinting towards a door with a neon exit sign hanging above it.
Bucky was hot on her heels, shoving the door open revealing another set of stairs. He hurried up the stairs and got to a landing revealing two doors. He noted that the left door was slightly ajar and he pushed through it revealing a large hall.
He sprinted into the centre of it, coming to a stop when he saw no sight of *yn*. He did a 360 of the room, craning his neck to look around. The room was empty except for a few large wooden boxes covered in tarps. Clearly this was where Sharon kept the less impressive stolen art.
“Come on.” Bucky muttered under his breath as he looked around. It was so quiet you could have heard a pin drop but his senses were telling him that he wasn’t alone in this room.
*yn* was here, if that was even her name.
He let out a grunt of surprise as a sold object hit his back, nearly knocking the wind out of him. He could feel limbs wrapping around his neck and his torso as slender arms pulled his neck into a headlock. He let another grunt as he brought his hands up to grip onto the arm that was around his throat.
He furrowed his brow in surprise when he pulled at the arms and found them unbudging. He tried once more, mustering all the strength he had but *yn*’s grip remained unmoving. He gritted his teeth and took a couple steps before shoving his back into one of the wooden crates.
He heard *yn* let out a small moan of pain as her body smacked against the solid mass with full force. Sure enough, her grip loosened slightly which allowed Bucky to pull her arm from his neck and throw her body over his head and off him.
She twisted her body in the air so that she landed in a crouched position but still on her feet. Bucky watched her as she rose to her full height, her body slightly gleaming with sweat under the sterile light. She took a few steps back from him and leant down to spread apart her dress, revealing a black thigh garter.
Just as Bucky had suspected on the dance floor, sheathed inside the thigh garter was a small blade. He watched as she pulled it from her thigh, gripping it tightly in her hand.
“You picked the wrong dress tonight doll.” Bucky tutted as he took a few steps towards her.
“You don’t like it? I’m hurt.” *yn* pouted, placing a hand over her heart mockingly.
“Trust me doll, I like it.” Bucky answered, letting his eyes briefly dart from the dagger in her hand to her dress. “But it’s not exactly the best dress for blending in and slipping away unnoticed.”
“Who ever said I wanted to slip away unnoticed?” *yn* answered, a mischievous glint in her eye as the pair began to slowly circle each other. Her words made his forehead crease in confusion as he studied her intently.
“So you know who I am?”
“I do.” *yn* nodded as she twisted the knife in between her fingers. “The зимни солдат.”
Her answer made Bucky’s lips part slightly in surprise. “That is what they call you, isn’t it?” She mused.
“Who are you?” Bucky snapped causing her to smirk to widen.
“What were those magic words again, Желание, Ржавый, Семнадцать-”
Bucky suddenly lurched forward, taking *yn* by surprise. She reacted instinctively, bringing the blade up from her side towards his stomach. Bucky gripped her wrist using his right arm, stopping the knife only inches from his flesh. He pulled her closer to him and raised his metal arm to strike her. With lightning fast reflexes her other arm shot up and her hand enclosed around his fist.
He glanced up at her in surprise when she pushed against his metal arm, stopping his fist from colliding with her jaw. He grunted as he mustered up more strength in an attempt to break out of her grasp to no avail. They were evenly matched in strength.
He had no idea who she was but now he was certain of one thing. They both had super soldier serum running through their veins.
*yn* took advantage of Bucky’s surprise and lifted a leg up, kicking him squarely in the stomach, her stiletto heel digging into his skin. Bucky spluttered as he felt the wind get knocked out of him, loosening his grip on her arms. *yn* reacted quickly, knocking his feet from underneath him and jumping on top of him.
Bucky groaned as his back hit the concrete floor and *yn* straddled him, pinning both of his arms above his head with one hand and pressing her dagger to his throat with the other.
“I think I liked you better when I was showing you up in front of your friend.” She remarked as she pressed the blade firmly against his skin.
“And I think I liked you better when you were dancing on me and not trying to kill me.” Bucky spat back as he squirmed underneath her causing *yn* to cock her head to the side, an amused expression on her features.
“Now whoever said I wanted to kill you?”
“Hmm I don’t know, could be the knife you’ve got against my throat.” He growled, wincing as the metal dug even further into his flesh. *yn* let out a breathy laugh as she leant down towards his face.
“Trust me pretty boy, if I wanted to kill you, you’d already be dead.”
The sound of footsteps approaching and Sam calling Bucky’s name made both their heads jerk towards the door before Bucky could answer her. This time it was Bucky’s turn to take advantage of *yn* being caught off guard. He managed to wriggle his metal arm out of her iron like grip and instantly lurched up to grab her around the throat.
*yn* spluttered in surprise, instinctively dropping her dagger to use both her hands to struggle against his vice like grip. Bucky used all of his core strength to push her off him and roll himself on top of her. Now he was so close up to her and under bright light, he could see that her skin was littered with small scars and bullet holes.
*yn*’s face was slowly growing red as she desperately gasped for air, her body squirming underneath him as she clawed at his metal arm. “I’m not going to ask you again, who the hell are you?” Bucky spat, glaring down at her as he desperately searched her eyes for some sort of answer.
“I don’t-” She spluttered, “I didn’t come here to hurt you, please-” She continued, her voice barely a whisper as her airway grew more restricted. For the first time since Bucky had locked eyes with her, he could see some form of fear and desperation reflecting back at him. The pair eyed each other for a few moments before Bucky slowly eased his grip around her throat, just enough for her to regain some air. *yn* gasped at the feeling of oxygen entering her lungs once more.
“Woah, what the fuck-”
Bucky looked up to see Sam, Sharon and Zemo staring at the pair with wide eyes, all three of them with their weapons raised.
“What part of stay out of trouble did you not understand?” Sharon queried, an exacerbated expression on her features.
“Trouble found me.” Bucky answered gruffly as he looked back down at *yn*. The fear that had been present on her features only moments ago had vanished, the cocky and flirtatious mask had been slipped back on.
“Not that I really mind this position, but given that the cavalry’s arrived, do you mind getting off me?” *yn* asked Bucky coolly.
Bucky’s lips pressed into a thin line, clearly unamused at her remark as he studied her. “You’re not going to try and kill me again?”
“I already told you, I don’t want to kill you.” *yn* huffed, rolling her eyes.
Bucky studied her for a few moments before finally relenting and releasing her throat from his grip. He pushed himself off her and rose to his feet but not before grabbing her dagger and sliding it into his suit pants.
*yn* got herself up from the ground, her breathing still ragged as she ran a hand through her hair and tucked her strays behind her ears.
“You wanna tell us who this is Bucky?” Sharon asked, eyeing *yn* up and down.
“Supposedly her name is *yn*-”
“-not supposedly, it is *yn*.”
“-she seems to like not answering questions about herself.” Bucky ignored *yn*’s input. “Oh and she’s had the super soldier serum.”
“Might want to keep an eye on your friend over there, I know he’s in the habit of murdering anyone who’s come within walking distance of the stuff.” *yn* remarked dryly shooting Zemo a dirty look.
“Hello to you too darling.” Zemo grinned causing Sharon to roll her eyes.
“Who are you? Who the hell do you work for?” Sharon quizzed her.
“I don’t work for anyone.” *yn* snapped back.
“The flag smashers?” Sam asked causing *yn*’s face to contort into a look of disgust. “Fuck no, I don’t work with those amateurs.”
“Just tell us what you want or I’m going to have to detain you.” Sharon spoke. There was a brief pause as *yn* studied Sharon before looking over to Bucky.
“You’re not the only one looking for answers, зимний солдат.” She answered quietly, her features softening for a moment as she looked at him.
“Well then maybe we can help each other get answers then.” Bucky murmured back.
The pair studied each other for a few moments before a loud honk suddenly sounded outside. Gun shots rang out from underneath them followed by loud screams and shouts. Bucky, Zemo, Sam and Sharon looked around in confusion as the sound of hundreds of footsteps began to grew louder and louder.
“Sorry kids, that’s my ride. Gotta fly.”
Within a few seconds the door burst open and hundreds of party goers flooded the room, shouting for help as they fled from the gun fire. Bucky glanced over to where *yn* had been only a few seconds ago to see that she was sprinting towards the only window in the room.
Bucky pushed through the panicked crowd, watching helplessly as *yn* reached the raised window. She clambered up onto the ledge and shoved the window open. She glanced over her shoulder and the pair locked eyes when Bucky was practically within arms length of her.
“I’ll be sure to send Doctor Nagel your regards, Buck.” She taunted. “We should do this again sometime, maybe without trying to hurt each other.” She smirked, sending him a wink before leaping off the ledge. Bucky scrambled up onto the ledge and poked his head out to see *yn* sliding down a pipe fixed to the outside of the building.
He watched helplessly as her stilettos hit the ground. She approached a waiting motorcycle, the driver holding out a helmet for her expectantly. She took the helmet and slung her leg over the seat, sliding her helmet on as the driver throttled the engine. She looked up to the window and gave Bucky a wave before wrapping her arms around the driver’s waist.
“Fuck.” Bucky cursed as he watched the motorbike peel off into the bustling street, going completely unnoticed by the rest of the public amid the chaos.
“She’s gone?” Sam queried as the other three appeared beside Bucky at the window.
“Hm.” Bucky grunted, clenching his jaw in annoyance as he watched the motorbike disappear from sight.
“She was kind of terrifying.” Sam remarked matter of factly.
“I thought for sure she was going to gut you, James.” Zemo observed.
Bucky stayed silently, clearly brooding as he stared out into the street as Sam studied him in amusement.
“I think Bucky’s in love.”

♡ prompt: “i'll make sure never to leave you alone.”
♡ pairing: Baron Zemo x fem reader
♡ lyric inspiration: “you know I’m just a flight away, if you wanted you could take a private plane, los kilometros estamos conectando y me prendes aunque no me estes tocando.”
♡ note: not checked for grammar or spelling mistakes / for OBVIOUS reasons, heavy spoiler warning if you are not watching or are planning on watching Falcon and the Winter Soldier. this is kind of based on episodes three and four.
“we might need to call an old friend of mine for help,” Sam told both Bucky and Zemo. Bucky gave him a look of confusion, “she’s a friend of my sisters. before the blip and all that, she was a working college student. she’s really good at being a decoy for things,” Sam explained.
Bucky sighed, not knowing whether to agree with this or not. Zemo had no say in the matter as he was on a very strict leash with Sam so he didn’t bother to say much.
“well, what are we waiting for? if we need to be in Madripoor soon, I think it’s best we get ahead of the game before it gets any later than it already is,” Bucky stated as Sam agreed.
Zemo had been ‘kind’ enough to fly them back to where you currently stayed at.
+
the four of them touched down in Wisconsin in the later part of the morning. the wind was blowing briskly through the air as they all groaned about the slight cold. Sam was never the one to like the cold in the first place, Bucky for obvious reasons despised the winter climate, and Zemo found the Wisconsin farm scenery to be eye-catching.
“wait, how is she going to help us again?” Zemo asked as Sam put the information of your current house into the GPS. “she’s worked a lot with computers. she became friends with Sarah while she went to school in Louisiana. I think she could be of help considering she’d blend in with the younger crowd without us seeming suspicious,” Sam went into detail.
both Bucky and Zemo were confused on the entire situation but followed Sam’s lead regardless. they ended up in a small town a few hours out of where the plane touched down. your house was surrounded by a bunch of farm land and from the looks of it, you kept up with outside work.
“with her knowledge in computers and being able to blend in with the crowd, she could gather information that neither three of us could get.” Zemo looked up to Sam, “I know Madripoor better than anyone. what gives you the implication that I can’t get the information myself?” he asked.
Sam waved him off as they got to your doorstep. your house looked cozy in comparison to how you lived before the blip. he knocked on the door softly, stepping back almost immediately. it took you a while to answer it but as they heard footsteps, they heard a ‘who is it?’ from the other side of the door.
“it’s Sam.”
you jumped back in surprise. you weren’t expecting to have Sam of all people knocking on your door at this hour. Sarah hadn’t told you that he was even going to come and see you.
“Sam? James?” you asked, immediately playing with the skin on your fingers out of nervousness, “is something wrong? I wasn’t expecting you, nevertheless James here,” you continued as you let them inside. you looked at the third person, confused on who they were, “uh, may I ask who you are?” you questioned.
“that’s Zemo but that isn’t important. we need you for something we’re working on,” you sighed in defeat.
your life pre-blip was as normal as it could possibly be but after the blip, you lost your boyfriend at the time and your family dynamic had completely changed. you were no longer as close with your siblings, you were really never close with your dad to begin with, and your mom was just trying to fit back in as normally as possible without freaking out that something would happen to any of your siblings or yourself.
“there’s a group of people who re-created the super soldier serum and we need help finding out who did it and why,” you immediately whipped your head up to look at Sam, “as in the thing that created Winter Soldier here and Steve?” you exclaimed, a sense of panic coming out as you spoke.
Sam nodded, trying to calm you down before you could deny him all together, “since you still look kind of young and you were getting your degree in computer science, I was hoping you could come with us to Madripoor and scope out the scene while we talk to some people,” he explained.
“Sam, I never even finished my degree. the blip happened before I could graduate and post blip, I haven’t touched a computer to that extent,” you replied. Bucky put his hand on your shoulder, “we really need you. you’re not someone who would catch attention easily and whatever you do remember could still help us in the long run,” he interjected.
as Zemo watched both Bucky and Sam try to persuade you, he could tell you weren’t falling for it but now that he was standing in your kitchen, he could see the pictures of you and your family and probably some friends on your fridge door.
“can I talk to her?” Zemo asked Bucky softly. Bucky gave him a look, almost as if what he said was disgraceful to hear, “why?” he asked back. Zemo pointed to the pictures on the fridge, “because I know how it is to lose family.”
Bucky whispered to Sam about what Zemo had told him and while Sam wanted to refuse, while you were gone making coffee for them, Sam ultimately let him. “do not blow this for us. you’re on thin ice and if you screw us up, you’ll be back in that German prison cell before you could say your name,” Zemo put his hands up in defeat as he slowly walked into the kitchen.
“need help with that coffee?” Zemo asked. you turned around, shaking your head no as you looked through the cabinets, “no, I’m okay. thanks for asking. I just need to find the coffee before meeting you three out there again,” you replied.
Zemo reached into the pouch inside his jacket and pulled out a brown bag, “coffee from Germany. it’s the best you’ll get,” he said as you grabbed the bag and opened it up. the strong smell of coffee hit your nose as you coughed from it, “where did you get this?” you asked.
Zemo laughed, shaking it off, “I’m a Baron, ( your name ). my family has a lot of things,” you nodded, not quite understanding what he meant by that but agreeing regardless, “listen, I know you’re hesitant on going with us to Madripoor but we really need your help. you’d be doing the world a favor by it,” he elaborated.
you remained silent for a moment, “what has the world done for me? I lost my boyfriend, the guy I thought I was going to be with forever. my family and I don’t even talk to each other anymore so why should I help it out?” you responded, not caring if Sam or Bucky heard. Zemo put his hand on your cheek before sighing, “I lost my family in Sokovia. I know what that feels like more than anyone in the world and look at me now,” he replied.
Sam and Bucky looked at each other nervously as they watched you try and contain your tears. they couldn’t exactly tell what Zemo was telling you but they could sense you were actually debating the idea now.
“did you ever move on? how did you move on is what I should be asking,” you asked quietly. Zemo stayed silent for a moment, not knowing whether he should answer genuinely or not, “being alone for as long as I was makes you come to terms with a lot of things,” he replied.
you gulped, trying to push down whatever tears wanted to come out.
“I think I’m over what happened pre-blip but I guess what’s stopping me from fully moving on is that we’ll never be the people we were before hand. what would I get out of helping all of you again?” you asked Zemo, now blushing at how close you were with him, “finding out where the serum is coming from and possibly having peace of mind,” he replied.
you put the cups down and walked back into the living room, “you both owe me something. I don’t know what it is yet but you do,” you told Sam as he and Bucky sighed in relief, “give me a few minutes to gather my things,” you told them before heading upstairs.
“what did you tell her?” Bucky asked as Zemo watched you walk upstairs with an almost mesmerized look, “nothing any of you would understand,” he responded before sitting down on the worn out couch.
+
all of you touched down in Madripoor hours later. you had chugged back to melatonin gummies and passed out the entire flight back to Madripoor. you weren’t exactly a fan of planes so to be inside of one for hours made you extremely nervous.
you were sent off to get some information while they went off in their own direction to get something else they needed. you were told to get back to them before dusk so after you got the bits of information they needed, you met them back at the car.
“your name is now Noel, you’re a friend of ours and that’s all you need to know,” Zemo said as he handed you a fake id. you took it as Zemo relied Sam’s fake information to him, laughing at the nickname he was given, “high-town is beautiful,” you whispered to Zemo. he nodded in agreement, “indeed. we should visit it again,” he replied.
as all of you arrived to the club/bar, you heard the music blaring from outside and figured this is what Sam meant when he said you’d blend in with the crowd. you sighed before plastering a smile on your face and dancing your way inside.
“we should get some drinks,” Zemo told all of you. you nodded as you followed him to the bar. the small altercation between the bartender and Sam had you clenching your eyes shut as he cut up the snake, “please, that’s so disgusting,” you said, trying not to gag.
Zemo could see the uncomfortable look on your face and unknowingly hid you behind him. he knew that small protective feeling from anywhere. the last time he had that feeling was with his wife. Zemo didn’t want you to see anything that made you mildly uncomfortable.
within a few seconds, Zemo had shielded you immediately as an altercation brokeout with Bucky and a few others. you looked at Sam and Zemo in fright as Zemo made sure to keep you safe while Sam apologized for it. he knew you weren’t even mildly used to these kinds of scenes and if he was being honest, he knew in a way this could be traumatizing you.
“Selby is ready to see you now,” you heard someone say. you followed behind Sam and Zemo as he had Bucky right next to him. as all of you walked inside the room, you could see the woman immediately look at Bucky and you a bit more interestingly.
“you know you can’t just walk in here and demand to see me,” she said to Zemo. he nodded as Selby looked to Sam before giving him a backhanded compliment, “and can I ask who that is?” Selby asked as she pointed to you.
you stood stiff as a board as Sam tried to speak up but was interrupted almost immediately by Zemo, “my wife,” he said, now more softly as he touched your had. Selby chuckled, “you wouldn’t want to make a trade for her, would you?” Selby asked.
Sam immediately went on the defense as Zemo denied it, making sure you weren’t in her plane view anymore. Sam made sure that you were okay before returning back to the conversation at hand and within a few mere seconds, the once calm conversation turned deadly as Sam’s phone had went off and caused the domino affect to follow. Selby was now dead and all of your phones pinged off with money now on your heads for killing Selby.
“see! this why I didn’t want to do this!” you screamed to them as you chucked your heels to the side and slipping on your trusty Crocs that you had put inside of you bag, “now you’ve dragged me into things I have no idea about,” you continued to scream as you followed Zemo out the door.
he could tell you were on the verge of a panic attack as all of you ran in separate directions. Sam had given you a gun to protect yourself with. you weren’t the one to use a gun for anything so to even be carrying it around terrified the shit out of you.
you could tell that if you didn’t even cause a commotion to get the people to disperse, you’d be dead in a few minutes. you shot at the air, hoping no one got hurt in the process as everyone ducked for cover. you let out a shout as the bullets rang off into the air, making you drop the gun as soon as your rounds were finished.
all of you landed in some alley as you stood up against the building, trying to catch your breaths in the process. Zemo immediately asked if you were okay and reassured you that you were no longer in harm. you were safe....for the moment; however, he knew that wouldn’t last as long as he’d hope as he knew that you were now apart of their vigilante group whether you wanted to be or not.
after you met the infamous Sharon Carter, she had brought all of you to her place. she could sense that you did not belong in the group as she noticed how panicked you were by the entire situation. you hadn’t said a word after introducing yourself to her and frankly, she was concerned for you.
“I have clothes upstairs you could change into. I get the feeling you aren’t in the mood to party so you could stay on the second level until it ends.”
you thanked her, grabbing your bag and walking up the stairs. you landed inside of a room as the clothes were inside of the closet. you quickly slipped on the athleisure wear and sat on the bed, trying to calm yourself down from the previous events.
“you okay?” you heard Zemo say from the door. you didn’t respond as you remained looking at your shaky hands, “hey,” he whispered, bending down on one knee looking at you.
“do I look okay?” you replied a bit hastily, “I have money on my head for something I didn’t even do. I’m a criminal now, Zemo. I had no intentions of ever becoming what I am now. I just don’t understand why any of you would do this to someone who was still recovering from the blip!” you exclaimed as tears ran down your face.
Zemo sighed, seeing the look of hurt, distrust, and panic all over your face. he had no idea you’d be this upset with the entire situation but seeing as you looked at the text that had your face with the wanted sign over it, he could tell you were realizing the severity of the situation.
“what do I even tell my mom? my siblings?” you asked, “they have no idea of any of this and now I’m some criminal with a target over my head.” Zemo grabbed your hand and rubbed it softly with his thumb, “I know and after all of this is over, you’ll be free to do whatever you want. you just have to stick through this. we need you here,” he replied.
you growled, “and what do I get out of it? trauma? therapy again?” you retorted. Zemo shook his head as you unknowingly slipped to his side and cried to his shoulder, “possibly but at least you’ll have people by your side this time. I’ll make sure you’ll never have to be by yourself again,” he said.
you looked at him through tear stained eyes and nodded as he brought you in for an embrace. you were comforted by the cologne he was wearing as he sang softly in your ear. it sounded like some lullaby you would’ve heard as a kid.
“promise?” you asked him. Zemo nodded, bending down to give you a kiss. you quickly reciprocated the kiss and had Zemo hold you close as the two of you remained kissing each other, “promise,” he murmured against your lips.
from the crack of the door, Sam and Bucky wanted to interrupt you in order to kill Zemo for even thinking of kissing you but from down the hall, Sharon warned that it wasn’t any of their business to do such a thing.
Sam knew that he had all the consequences falling on him if something happened to you and being that you were now a wanted woman for the killing of Selby, the very least he could do is let you have this with Zemo. he might’ve hated his guts like it was nobodies business but for the time being, you were calm and not trying to kill him or Bucky.

This Is Still Marvel, Right?
Summary- 2.5k Sam Wilson x Bucky Barnes x Wade Wilson x You. Deadpool the character from the comics is sitting across from the table from you, real right in front of your eyes. Not only is time travel a thing, but dimension travel is as well, and he is here for a very serious reason. Warnings- swears. Written for @what-is-your-backupplan-today CATFA 10th Anniversary Challenge. Prompts are highlighted.
Masterlist
“You came from where?” Sam questioned with a tilt of his head, arms folded across his chest as he raised a quizzical brow at the man in all red.
“And why the clown suit?” Bucky right next to him asked, trying to make sense of what was going on.
“I’m from the X-Men verse, you know… bald dude in the wheelchair, Wolvie with butter knife hands, we have our own pigeon boy. Not as sweet as your wings though.” Wade said with a sigh. “And we had a Peter, but the winds… god the winds were too strong. I will never forget you Sugar Bear.” He sobbed in his hand a moment, sniffling a moment.
You were thoroughly in shock, your jaw was dropped to the floor as Wade mother fucking Wilson sat in the interrogation chair, one leg crossed over the other, his ankle jiggling as he leaned forward on his elbows, planting his chin in his palms as he made an cooing sound at the two men. “Aww, they are so cute when they are confused, aren't they cute? The cutest little puppies.” He went to boop Bucky's nose, but Bucky reared his head back away from his hand and a whir of his hand closed around Wade's wrist, which caused the masked mercenary to gasp out excitedly.
“THE WINTER SOLDIER ARM, VIBRANIUM UPGRADE. I keep telling Cable he needs this hook up, his isn't nearly as cool as yours. Mister Bucky Barnes Sir, can you sign my suit? I’m a super fan.” the white eyes of his mask widened and you finally managed to close your mouth watching all this.
Whatever this was, you were actually wondering if you weren't in some drugged hallucination right now. Mission gone wrong? You had eaten that turkey sandwich out of the compound fridge, maybe it was drugged and this was someone's payback for stealing their food.
“Come on man.” Sam snapped out, still trying to get a straight answer out of him. Bucky let go of his hand which Wade muttered to himself.
“I'm never washing this hand, not ever.” He cradled it to his chest. “Just wait till I tell Chrome Dome who shook my hand.”
“ANSWERS!” Bucky yelled out and Wade gasped at the outburst. Bucky reached over to grasp the mask and yanked it off, grimacing as Wade's appearance showed. Both Sam and Bucky recovered quite quickly, you were still freaking out in the corner and Wade gave a suggestive wink to the two of them.
“Names Wilson, Wade Wilson. No relation to this saucy stud though.” He eyed Sam up and down with a purr, who scoffed at the sudden attention. “Don't worry, I know that one is crushing on you hard. The chemistry. I won't make a move on you. Winter Soldier though is fair game, eh?” He made a chef’s kiss motion after pointing at you. “So are you two… do you… fondue?” Wade asked, Sam and You looked at each other and made disbelieving faces at one another. “Oh we're not admitting feelings? My bad. I jumped ahead in the comics. So much sexual tension.” Making a donut shape with one hand and a pointer with the other, meshing them together, you could feel your throat close up and Sam’s eyes widen. Bucky was struggling to keep his calm at this point, Sam too. Wade made a motion to stand and get up.
“Do we have any eats here?” He puts his hand on the handle to open the door and a knife flung through the air, landing right next to his face. Wade paused and turned around. “Here I thought this was still Marvel and not Dc. Tony would have offered me a snack by now.” He grumbled while sitting back down. “A falafel, blueberries, I know he likes to snack, I've seen the movies.”
You finally got over your shock and went to sit across from him. “Mr.Wilson…”
He put up a hand. “Pool please, Deadpool. Or Wade. Or you can call me Captain Deadpool. Too much?” He glanced up at Sam and Bucky. “Yea too much, just call me Wade.”
“Wade.” you started again, trying to figure out how to approach this. “We’re confused, because you are a comic book character.” You pulled up your phone and pulled up a screen clip of his movie.
Wade gasped and grabbed at your phone, studying it. “Look at that handsome son of a bitch. I'm so glad they picked Ryan Reynolds for the part, he looks just like me.” He held the phone up next to his face. “He’s so good looking, it's the Canadian genes.” Then handed it back, you tucked it away and he leaned forward to toss what looked like a beat up comic book on the table.
“What’s this?” You question, pointing at it.
“A comic book. You guys are just comic book characters and I'm here to fix your story. What? You seriously didn't know you are comic book characters in another universe?”
“Our story?” You pulled the comic towards you and sure enough plastered on the front was Sam in his Falcon Suit, Bucky with his own gear and you were soaring in the air above slightly out of focus.
“Yes, your story. Listen Cable, you all know Cable right? He's like a moodier you Buckaroo…” The name caused Bucky to growl a bit, but Wade continued without noticing. “... hooked me up with this cool device. Not like those stones you all have, this is some actual batman kind of future fuckery that I got rigged to not just travel back in time. But other dimensions. Whoo... “ He made wiggly fingers. “It's like magic right? Cool.”
You were flipping through the pages as fast as possible, skimming the storyline. Amazingly all of it was there, the mission report Nick Fury brought Sam this morning, you and Bucky sparring and how he pinned you against the mat, the heart to heart about how you two missed Steve.
Sam pinched the bridge of his nose while Bucky looked over your shoulder at the comic book. “I'm getting a headache, or I'm losing it. Did I get hit in the head?” Sam rambled a bit and you got to the end of the comic, seeing that the mission Fury had given you three was completed, successfully.
“Says there we did just fine.” Bucky said and you closed it before pushing it towards the center of the table.
“It's not all just fine.” Wade threw up his hands in exasperation and you shook your head so confused.
“Explain it to us Wade.” You grasped the comic again, flipping through it, scanning the pages as quick as you can.
“Go to page 53.” He tapped his finger against the steel table and you did, the panel showing you and Sam standing on a roof top about to enter a building from above and Bucky was shown in another panel scaling a building.
“I don't see it…” you shook your head confused as to what he was talking about and Wade pointed at the bottom, that was just barely in view. A hot dog cart.
“You are here, from another dimension of life… because of a hot dog cart?”
Wade nodded firmly. “If we don't protect that hot dog cart, bad things will happen.” His voice lowered, turning shifty. “Spooky stuff… anal stuff.” He shuddered and sat back, staring at the hot dog cart in the bottom of the picture. “If we don't protect that hot dog cart, it causes issues you couldn't even fathom. Another life just poof… what did y’all call it? Spanked out of existence?”
You just automatically corrected him. “Snapped.”
“Spanked sounds better, maybe consider changing it to spanked?”
Sam cleared his throat. “You traveled through dimensions to get here so we could save a hot dog cart? I'm just- trying to keep it all straight. This isn't entirely the weirdest thing I have heard, but it's close.”
Bucky scoffed. “I say this guy needs some help, maybe his brain got scrambled like mine.”
“Nah, I didn't get the mind trip you did. I was tortured by a guy named Francis.” Wade snorted gleefully. “Called himself Ajax, like the dish soap!” Slapping his knee, he busted out laughing heavily, starting to cry.
You rubbed at your face and looked over your shoulder. “I think we should trust him guys. What if what he says is true? We’ve dealt with crazy shit before.”
“You can't be serious Y/N.” Bucky shook his head and Sam looked doubtful. Wade giggled as he wiped a tear from his eye, pointing a finger at you.
“I like you, you're the smart one here I can tell.”
You all turned to Sam who hadn't said anything yet. He sighed and rubbed at his face a bit, before finally saying under his breath. “I'm never going to hear the end of this… Lets take him.”
Wade did a fist pump in victory, leaping up to grab his mask back from Bucky. “X-Force Ass-” You were quick to cover his mouth, leaving the “-emble” garbled.
“He's going to get us killed, Wilson.”
“I said to call me Deadpool or Captain Deadpool.”
“I WAS TALKING TO HIM!” Bucky jerked his thumb at Sam, gritting his teeth while he yanked open the door and left the room. Deadpool followed after him, the next thing you heard was Bucky hollar. “I'm going to kick your ass Prick.”
“Will you? You're making me all excited. Like a fairy making a little girl's wishes come true, I feel like I could fly.”
Then you and Sam heard something loud crack and Wade’s cooing grew fainter. “Nice boots, Tinkerbell!”
You snatched the comic book and stuffed it in your back pocket. “Uh we probably better go stop Bucky. It's pointless for him to try to kill Wade and will just tire himself out.”
Sam opened the door, holding it open for you. “Should we really take that away from him?”
“True and it sounds like Wade is having himself a fan moment anyways and doesn't care.” You stepped out to see Bucky and Wade tangled together wrestling.
Just as the comic stated, You and Sam were able to go in from the top. You could see Bucky below you using rigging to scale the building. Down further below you could see a red dot pushing a hot dog cart down the street well out of harm. Speaking into the comm’s, your wings folded to pull you into a spiral, spinning towards the roof. “Wade’s got the cart moved, and were clear to enter.”
There was a grunt in the comms and Bucky's voice crackled through. “Well damn, I'm glad the hot dog cart is safe… for reasons spanning an entire dimension that we still don't know.”
“Who are we to question it, Bucky? I mean, we’ve seen some pretty strange shit.” You stated as Sam landed next to you, shooting at the door and ducking inside together. “Maybe this is just another one to add to the pile.”
Silence descended on the group as you each made to fulfill the mission. Once the building was clear and the three of you were working on exiting, Wade was waiting on the roof, sitting on the edge eating a hot dog and had three more lined up next to him. “I brought you all lunch, you guys do that sort of thing right? Good Mission? yes I bet. Buckaroo has the happy murder gleam in his eyes.” He took another bite of his hot dog and chewed while studying Bucky closely.
“Don't do that.” Bucky shuddered a bit and Wade proceeded to pop the last bite into his mouth and chewed slowly while rolling the bottom half of his mask down.
“Do what Buckaroo?”
“Stare at me or call me Buckaroo.”
“While eating a hot dog? Only way to properly eat one. I know you love it James. Well my mission here is done.” He pushed off the ledge to give you a hug and handed you a manilla envelope. “This is for you, it explains everything. Toodleloo Kiddies, it was fun knowing you. Oh and if you see Hugh Jackman on the street, tell him his coffee sucks and bitch slap the prick.” He jumped back on the ledge and looked over the edge. “Oh this is gonna kill my knees but this is a true superhero moment. Wait for it…” He gave you all a salute and stepped over, plummeting down. Sam and Bucky rushed the edge, looking over.
You knew better, a superhero landing wouldn't kill him.
“NAILED IT!” you three barely heard, then in a flash of sparks, Deadpool was gone.
“I thought for sure he was going to pancake down there.” Bucky said with a hint of sadness and Sam shook his head.
“We gotta get out of here before we're caught and get this back to Fury.” Sam held up a chip that held the actual intel of the mission.
You silently agreed and together the three of you made your way off the building and back home.
Afterwards once you were back in the tower and changing out of your suit, you glanced at the manilla envelope Wade left you.
Sitting down on the bench, you opened it and peeked in. What looked like another comic book was in there as well as a letter. Pulling out the letter, you scanned it.
~To the Super Duper Trio,
Thank you for believing me. It was crucial. We're not the only comic book verse out there living our lives. Sometimes they cross intersect in ways that I can't explain, go find the wizard, he can tell you more about it. Also ask him to your next party, because he can do the COOLEST TRICKS. But if you take out the comic book enclosed you will see on page 23 there is a hot dog cart as well as a familiar looking dork named Jake Jensen. Alias- Capt Jensen.
Perhaps your Captain is alive in some way, the DC universe having changed him to a loveable, cat hating, Petunias loving, super smart idiot.
Tell Birdman thanks for the vote of confidence, caw caw mother fucker.
Tell Buckaroo he forgot to sign my suit, I will be back. He is my favorite after all.
And what I wanna tell you is take care of those idiots so they dont kill each other.
With Love,
Captain Deadpool
Ps- Yes Cap’s as awkward with women in DC as he was in Marvel.
Pss- Welcome to X-Force! I will be in touch.
You pulled out the comic book and glanced at the cover seeing six people staring down, the title of the comic- The Losers. Flipping to the page, you found a photograph tucked in between the pages, showing another version of the page. One where the street looked demolished and a man lying crumbled by a cart. Also a familiar hot dog cart leaned on its side, demolished.
Setting the picture aside, now you glanced over this panel to see the same man making a show of pulling out a crossbow, the bubble above his head with the words “That’s right, bitches, I got a crossbow!”
The scene didn't really surprise you that much, more like the character now alive in the comic looked just like Steve.
A thinner version, he had facial hair, and the entire get up was never anything Steve would have willingly worn.
But it looked just like Steve Rogers and for the second time that day your jaw dropped.
Maybe Wade Wilson was right, after all…
Nothing was off limits and stranger things have happened.

‘let’s play fire with fire’ series masterlist
my masterlist
summary: as bucky, sera and sam prepare themselves for their next step into the mission, some weird and unexpected events lead to new feelings and fights growing into their little team.
FEEDBACK IS ALWAYS APPRECIATED! :)

“Jayme Jefferson. That’s his name.” Sera said to the poor working girl trying to catch every word Sera was saying.
“Yeah, I know him but he doesn’t work here anymore. He quit three days ago.” The girl said while she was cleaning the counter at the coffee shop. Sera furrowed her eyebrows as she felt her heart dropping to her stomach when the math hit right in her head. “Three days ago?” She asked getting closer to the girl before she slowly nodded, trying to understand what were all the questions about.
“That’s very odd.” Sam said behind Sera which made everyone turn to him.
“What is?” The girl asked confused but non of them even tried to explain something to the confused girl, Sera just sigh and turned to the working girl once again.
“Can you describe him for me?”
“I don’t know. He was very tall and strong, he had tattoos on his neck and arms. But what caught my attention even more when I met him was his white hair.”
“White hair?” Bucky asked quickly.
“Yeah.” Sera noticed how the girl locked eyes with Bucky and soon felt intimidated by the way he was looking at her, or maybe it was the way someone as attractive as Bucky was looking at her, either way she soon regained control of her words and kept talking. “I first got really confused because he didn’t seem the type to work at a coffee shop and from the back he looked like an old man, you know, the white hair and all. But his face didn’t show him being more than 40.”
“I don’t know about you,” Sam said “but that guy sounds like the perfect sidekick douche who would follow the big man like a dog following a treat.”
The girl furrowed her eyebrows confused at the comparison while looking at Sam but then when Sera nodded and let out a long sigh, she went back to her with the confusion still on her face. “Alright. Thank you for your help.”
“Are you guys like detectives or something?” She asked the moment the three of them were about to leave the counter.
“Not really-” Sam said but then was interrupted by the girl gasping loudly and covering her mouth with her hand, gaining a couple of stares on the way.
“Oh my God, you’re the Falcon.” She said in a loud whisper as Sam immediately let out a tiny smile and nodded.
“Yeah, I am.”
Sera turned to Bucky with an eyebrow lifted as he had his arms across his chest, she took a step to be closer to him and then whispered to him. “I didn’t know he had a fan club.” Sera said with a tiny smile on her face but Bucky didn’t respond, he just let out a tiny laugh and kept looking at the girl trying to not freak out.
“Can I get you guys anything?” She said once she took the picture with Sam and left her phone inside her back pocket.
Sera tilted her head sideways and lifted her eyebrows. “Do you have anything with vodka in it?” As soon as she said those words she heard Sam letting out a tiny laugh while Bucky just shook his head, even though a little smile escaped his lips.
The girl let out a smile but then shook her head. “Not really.”
“Then I’m good, thank you.” Sera said after letting out sigh and finally turning around to sit down at one of the tables, disappointed of the poor progress they just made.
“So he decides to quit a day before going out with Angela. The more we found out about him is not good on his case.” Bucky said once they all sat down and tried to recolect all the information they had.
“No, it isn’t.” Sera said while looking at the window she had next to her seat.
Sera’s eyes were directed to the window but her mind wasn’t in it at all, all she could think about it was her friend and where she might be... or even if she was alive in the first place. That thought consumed her brain fully no matter how much she tried, even if she wanted to erase it and focus on what was important: finding her. “Is there anything else your friend told you about him?” Sam asked trying to catch Sera’s eyes, but she didn’t took them away from the window.
“Not that I recall. She was just very excited and- couldn’t wait to go out with him.” She said softly.
Bucky y Sam noticed the way that Sera was acting and couldn’t help but feel guilty about the whole situation. Yes, it wasn’t their fault that the guy they were after took Angela, Jackson was the one to blame, but they were the reason Sera and her friend were in it to begin with. They both locked eyes while Sam was letting out a tiny sigh as the guilt was growing each second that was passing. “Sounds like she really liked him.” He said and Sera slowly nodded furrowing her eyebrows. She was on her own world, trying to get every idea she had on him and her friend right in order to see if anything she hadn’t thought before could help her, but no matter how many things she remembered or even could slightly help her, nothing seemed to take her to the next step or even make sense. As Bucky had his eyes on Sera, even if she wasn’t staring at him he could see the sadness in her eyes. He felt so stupid and useless because there was nothing that was coming to his mind that could help her in any way, nothing that could make her feel better o even push the mission a little bit. And Sam’s silence made him understand that he didn’t had anything either. The silence surrounding their table became so awful that the tension could be cut with a knife. But Sera didn’t seem to care, her eyes were still glued to the window, so still that she looked like she was frozen, even if her mind wasn’t.
Bucky’s mind was still trying to look for something when he felt his phone vibrating on his backpocket. Picking it up to see what it was he reached his hand towards his back and unlocked it once he had it on his hand. His eyes were moving towards the notification but then quickly stopped once the app that was going to save them appeared on his sight. “Wait, we have his name, right?” Bucky said gaining the looks of Sera and Sam. Sera nodded confused as she and Sam were waiting for Bucky to speak again. “I know this app.”
“Do you know an app?” Sera asked with an eyebrow raised.
“Yes... what?” Bucky asked looking back and forth to Sam and Sera and their confused looks.
“Nothing. Is just a little bit weird having grandpa talk about apps. That’s all.” Sera said gaining a tiny laugh out of Sam’s mouth.
Bucky slightly opened his mouth offended. “What? I know about apps.”
“Knowing how to open your contacts list isn’t knowing an app.” Sam said looking at Bucky’s phone and realising that there wasn’t more than 2 apps on his phone.
Bucky looked down to his phone screen and moved his fingers looking for something to show them both. “I have- I have Instagram.” He lifted his phone and waved it as the app was opening. Sera and Sam gave Bucky a weird look so he took down the phone and shrugged his shoulders. “I don’t post anything- I just, I downloaded because it has pretty pictures.”
Sera bit her lower lip trying to hide a laugh coming out of her mouth as a thought came into her mind. Trying to keep that thought inside, she closed her eyes but her mouth seemed to have a mind of its own since it didn’t took long to let out the words after that. “Pretty pictures of pretty ladies showing their butts?” She said to annoy him with her joking tone.
Bucky’s eyes went wide open as Sam let out the biggest laugh ever, gaining some looks from the people on the coffee shop. “What?! I don’t follow that.”
“He definitely follows at least one.” Sam said trying to see Bucky’s phone screen.
“Oh, c’mon, no shame here. They’re hot.” Sera said trying to not laugh at Bucky’s expression.
“Yeah, man- I mean, we get it. You spent a lot of years like a frozen lolly pop, I get that is new for you to have all those things right on your hand. It was weird for me too!”
Bucky let out a long sigh and shook his head. “How did we get here?”
Sera locked eyes with Sam and they both saw how the other didn’t want to end the conversation, and wanting to annoy Bucky even more, Sera tilted her head and started naming with her fingers. “Is she blonde? Brunette? Long hair or short hair? C’mon, how does grandpa like his women?” She said loudly enough so the people around them heard. As some people were staring, Bucky turned around and did a little smile before going back as Sera with his killing stare.
“Seriously?”
“It’s cool man!” Sera said lifting his hands into the air.
“Granda has Instagram, cool to know.” Sam said after letting out a laugh and playfully punching Bucky on the arm.
“Can we go back to my app please?”
“Sure, enlighten us with your app, please.”
Bucky rolled his eyes and touched the icon to slowly see the app opening. Once opened, he turned the phone around to show the screen to Sam and Sera, who quickly got closer to the phone. “This app allows us to search for anyone on the system.”
“System?”
“Yeah. You write their name down and you can see a little bit of information about them and some of their family tree.”
Sera looked at Sam confused but then went back to Bucky. “And how, may I ask, do you know about this app?”
Bucky didn’t respond immediately. He didn’t know if he should tell the truth or not. He didn’t used the app anymore but the reason why he used it wasn’t something that anyone would pas unnoticed, even if he wasn’t what he used to be anymore. “I used to use it for... to search people.” He said but when Sam and Sera didn’t say anything back, he let out a tiny sigh and looked at his phone screen. “People that I used to know as the winter soldier.”
“Ah, got it.” Sera said nodding, not giving much importance to the reason why Bucky had it. And that, caught his attention. She didn’t ask why, or what did he exactly did with it, or anything else, she just nodded and waited for Bucky to keep talking about the app. He clearly wasn’t expecting that, and his eyes were definitely saying. He locked eyes with Sera and noticed the little smile she had on her face. Her eyes weren’t full of disappointment or fear like Bucky would usually see when he talked about his winter soldier past, her eyes were just... looking at him. Like he was a person ready to help her out, not seeing him as a... killer. And that wasn’t very common with the new people on his life.
“How do know this app is going to work?” Sam asked making Bucky and Sera turned to him.
“It worked for me.” Bucky shrugged his shoulders while getting the app ready.
“Ok, fine, but there’s probably like a hundred thousand of people named Jayme Jefferson.”
“I never said it was going to be easy.”
“I don’t know a lot of people with the name Jayme...” Sera let out a tiny sigh but then furrowed her eyebrows tilting her head to the side “but at the same time I don’t have many friends, so- do it.” As soon as Sera said those words Bucky nodded and looked down to his phone screen. Impatiently, Sera and Sam looked at each other as they were waiting for Bucky to type with her slow fingers. Silence now surrounded them for the second time, but not wanting to go down that dark whole one again, Sera let out tiny smile ready to annoy a working Bucky.
“Look at grandpa with his cellphone and all. Looking all smart and shit.” She said and soon Sam let out a laugh, pushing Bucky with his shoulder.
“Looking all modern. I can get used to that.” He said and Bucky let out an annoyed sigh.
“I hate you two.” He said firmly without taking his eyes away from the screen.
“Aw, stop it.” Sera said moving her hair out the way and tucking it behind her ear. “You’re going to make me blush.”
Bucky left the phone on the table and blocked it. “It’s going to take a couple of minutes.“
“Alright. So let’s go back to the note, it had the letter ‘J’ in it, right?” Sam asked turning to Sera and she quickly nodded. “So, are we sure that Jackson is the one behind it all? I mean, we got another candidate for the whole situation. Or the whole group has like an obsession with the letter J.”
Sera thought for a little bit but then slowly shook her head, feeling her insides burn. “My apartment was all burned and Jackson likes to play with fire. I’m pretty sure it’s him.”
“Alright but we have to be open for other possibilities. Maybe someone who you crossed you on the past.”
“A lot of people don’t like me.”
“Can’t imagine why.” Bucky let out a tiny laugh when Sera gave him the death stare and a fake smile afterwards.
“Aw, the grandpa has jokes now?” Sera jokingly asked but when Bucky was about to open his mouth again, his phone vibrated.
“I got the results back.” He said reading the notification on his screen and quickly unlocking it.
“What does it say?” Sam asked intrigued.
“Ok, there’s a guy that lives a couple of blocks away from here...-” Bucky started reading but then stopped, shaking his head slowly “but he’s 80 years old.”
“Yeah, I’m guessing that’s not him.” Sam said but Sera slight tilted her head backwards, disappointed.
“Well, the girl said that he looked like an old man. Maybe he has some super baby face.” She said, going back to looking at Bucky.
“The next one says that the guy works at a flower shop and has Italian background. Family is from there.”
“Next.” Sera said quickly, shaking her head.
“Ok, the next one... died five years ago.”
“Could be a ghost.” Sam said.
“And this one says that he works at a night club and- weird.”
“What?”
Bucky’s eyes started reading but he wasn’t saying any words. He kept reading and reading until he looked up and finally let out the words Sera and Sam were impatiently waiting. “It doesn’t say anything about his family. It always says something.”
Sera felt her thoughts looking for something even if she didn’t know what it was. But then, Angela’s voice came into her head. “Wait- did you said he works at a night club?”
Bucky nodded. “Why?”
“Angela started telling me like a week ago that she wanted to go to this club on the city, some big famous club that rich and famous people go.”
“And what about it?” Sam asked confused.
“Angela hates going to clubs, she’s more of a big reunion at a house with friends. At first I thought she wanted to try something new and didn’t give much thought into it. But now...” she stopped while her brain was coming up with the conclusion. Once it did, she was about to open her mouth but Sam spoke for her, coming up with the same conclusion like Sera.
“Who better to make someone leave their comfort zone-”
“Than a guy who drives your crazy and you’re very interested in.” Sera finished his sentence and they both let out a tiny smiles, proud of themselves and their tiny progression for the mission.
“I think we got our guy.” Sam said and without another second, him and Sera got up from the table, except Bucky who kept staring at the table without moving a finger.
“Why?” He finally asked when he had the eyes of Sera and Sam on him, both confused. “Why would she want to go there?”
“It’s a club, and the guy she likes works there. It’s simple, Bucky.” Sera said shaking her head.
“Yeah, I know, but what about festivals? Isn’t that better if you want to go on on a... date?”
“Seriously?” Sam asked while Sera closed her eyes not believing what her ears were hearing.
“Yeah. Give the girl some flowers and then take her to the festival.”
Sera locked eyes with Sam who just let out a tiny sigh and shook his head. “He’s from the 40’s. I don’t know.”
Sera turned to Bucky to whisper: “Grandpa” before leaving the table and a confused Bucky behind.
“I’m just saying! And that isn’t an insult! Grandpas are cool!”
>>>
Sera looked out the window and rolled her eyes the moment Sam parked the car in front of the mall. “Sam, we don’t have to do this.” She said turning to see Sam, who just nodded locking eyes with Sera.
“Yes you do. And so does Bucky.” Bucky quickly turned to Sam and opened his mouth offended.
“Why me too?”
“Because you don’t have anything to wear.”
“Yes I do. This is perfectly fine.”
“Yes, if you want to look like a drug dealer or everyone to know that you’re a screwdriver,” Sera bit her lower lip trying to contain her laugh as Sam pointed at Bucky’s tiny sleeves showing a tiny part of his metal arm “you need to get new clothes.” Seeing that Sera wanted to laugh at Bucky, Sam pointed at her and soon that feeling was erased from her. “And your clothes are all burnt and we don’t want you two to gain a lot of eyes. We need to blend in. You do want to do this the right way, don’t you?” Sam waited for Sera to say that she wanted to, but instead, she tilted her head to the side and slowly shook her head.
“Not really.”
“Surprisingly,” Bucky said pointing with his head at Sera on the backseat “I’m with her on this one.”
“C’mon, torch and screwdriver, out of the car.” Sam unlocked the door and as Sera was letting out a long sigh, she took her hand to the handle and quickly opened it.
“You suck.” She said annoyed but Sam just let out a loud laugh.
“Uh, that was a throwback!”
>>>
As Sera’s was impatiently moving her foot up and down, the old lady was looking for a dress that would fit Sera perfectly. Or at least, what the lady thought it would since the smile on her face let Sera and Bucky know that she had what she was looking for, even if Sera didn’t know what that was. “How about this one?” The old lady said the moment she grabbed a dress and lifted it to be in front of Sera. She took her time to see the dress in detail, even if there was not much to look. The frabic seemed thin and see through. It was a color of light orange with sparkles glowing on every side of the dress, making it look like a disco ball and ready to party kind of dress. Sera didn’t know what she wanted, but that was definitely not it. “Uh, that looks... tight.” She said looking at the dress up and down.
“Oh, sweetie,” the old lady grabbed her arm as a smile came out of her lips “you have an amazing figure! You!” She quickly turned to Bucky, who immediately erased his bored expression out of his face and opened his eyes wide open when the old lady slightly punch his arm with the palm of her hand. “Tell her she has a wonderful figure!”
“What? Me?” Bucky asked confused the moment he understood what the woman was trying to say and Sera bit her lower lip trying to hold in a laughter.
“Do you see another man with her? Yes, I’m talking to you, Mr! Compliment your girlfriend!”
Sera, wanting to follow the woman and annoy Bucky, shook her head and let out a long and dramatic sigh. “You’re right. He never compliments me.”
“Men!” The woman said while putting the dress back on the shelf and looking for another one.
“Tell me about it.” Sera said and then quickly turned to Bucky to enjoy the annoyed smile he let out. “Unbelievable.” Bucky said in a whisper which lead to Sera letting out a tiny laugh but then turn back to the old lady, as she was already grabbing another dress to show Sera.
“What about this one?” They both stared at the dress in detail. It was red and it was thinner as the one before, but this one had one thing different: it was shorter. Sera knowing that she didn’t want it, she shook her head but as she was about to open her mouth, she felt Bucky getting closer to the dress to grab it and feel the fabric against his free hand. Carefully watching Bucky, Sera closed her mouth and enjoyed the confused man she had in front of her.
“I think that’s shorter than the one before.” Bucky said with his eyebrows furrowed as her fingers were moving along the dress.
Sera knew that it wasn’t the dress she wanted for the night club, she knew that wearing that dress could lead to her being uncomfortable and not ‘mission’ worthy. She definitely knew that. And for that, Bucky would be right about the dress being too short for her... but she wasn’t going to let that happen. “What?” Sera said quickly. “I can’t wear short dresses?”
The women let out a loud gasp and shook her head in disapproval, while looking at Bucky and his even more confused face. “The audacity of some men!”
“Ok, I’m starting to believe you two made an unspoken agreement to be against me.” Bucky lifted his hands into the air after letting go of the dress and took some steps backwards, ready to sit down on one of the chairs next to the changing rooms, but the old lady wasn’t going to let him get away that easily.
“You’re the one who doesn’t let his beautiful girlfriend wear whatever she wants. Ugh, we always have to deal with boyfriends like him.”
“Like me?”
“Yes, like you Mr. Boyfriends who don’t seem to realise that they’re lucky to have a girl like this one by their side. You’re very fortunate! I mean, look at her!”
Sera let out a laugh but then joined in, once again. “Yes! Look at me, Mr!”
Bucky let out a sigh and slowly shook his head. “All of these because I didn’t compliment her on her figure?”
“Damn right!” The woman and Sera said at the same time.
Sera closed her lips with strength trying to not burst into laughter while Bucky was just killing her with his eyes, but no matter how much he stared, she just couldn’t help but enjoy the feeling of annoying Bucky. “Ok. I’m just gonna sit down and wait for when you two decide to stop hating me.” Bucky said before turning around to head towards the chairs.
“Don’t hold your breath!” Sera yelled to then finally, let out the biggest laugh she ever let out.
Bucky’s eyes were glued to the curtains of Sera’s changing room since she walked in to try on the dress the woman picked for her. For some reason, he couldn’t stop thinking about the fact that the old lady mistaken them both for a couple. He couldn’t even remember the last time someone was... his girlfriend. Even back then, the thought of having a girlfriend seemed so far away for him, ignoring the fact that he was kind of a ladies men, he didn’t even thought about it. And now- after everything that he went through, having to think of someone as normal as having a girlfriend. It was so weird and distant for him, something that he had forgotten how it felt like. Even if it was as simple as that.
“How is it going, sweetie?” The woman said gaining Bucky’s attention making him come back to reality. He looked at the woman as she was waiting for Sera’s answer, and once she did she let out smile and nodded. But the immediately erased it as soon as she locked eyes with the innocent Bucky sitting down in front of Sera’s changing room. “You. You better compliment her with she comes out.” She intimidatingly pointed at Bucky as she gave him a killing stare, almost threatening.
“I will, I will.” He lifted his hands into the air while the lady walked passed him and disappeared behind Bucky. “Jesus. I didn’t know I was going to get told off by someone younger than me today.” He said almost in a whisper. As soon as he let out a sigh he heard the curtain doors opening and the woman quickly walking towards Sera and her new dress.
“So, how does it look?” She said looking down and checking herself out while feeling the fabric against her hands.
The moment Bucky’s eyes laid on her, his tongue got twisted and his mouth went out of breath. The same feeling when people see something to the first time, the electrify going through their body, the eyes wondering every single detail, the desire of touching it and feeling it trying to remember how it feels for later. That’s how Bucky felt the moment she walked out the changing room. It had been a long time since Bucky layed eyes on someone like her, and for the way his eyes were looking at her made it pretty obvious.
Sera had a long red dress that would end on her knees, following her body magically and fitting it like a glove. Right on the end it would let Sera’s legs to move easily and move like the wind was hitting it, but it was just her legs moving. The thin straps let her shoulders and neck be more visible than ever, making her even more elongated than she already was. The redness fitted her skin color perfectly, making it glow under the light of the room and shine like the tiny diamond earrings she was wearing. The red dress was simple, but on her, it wasn’t. And Bucky definitely knew that.
“Oh, that’s even better.” The woman said noticing the silence surrounding Bucky. “A dress that leaves a man without words. We did it.” She gave Sera a high five and walked away, proud of herself and Sera, for leaving Bucky with twisted tongue and with wondering eyes, not being able to take them off her.
“Close your mouth, Romeo,” Sera said pointing with her at Bucky and his slightly opened mouth, him not even noticing it “or a fly will go inside your mouth.” She let out a tiny laugh and titled her head trying to see the embarrassment on Bucky’s face.
“I’ll go pay.” He said trying to sound annoyed once his gained full control of his body and left Sera behind, even if his mind was screaming to not do so.
The moment Sera stepped inside the changing room Bucky’s eyes on her appeared on her mind. The feeling he gave her on her stomach was still even if his eyes were long gone. She bit her lower lip locking eyes with herself on the mirror. It had been a long time since anyone has looked at her like that. It wasn’t like he was looking at her like he wanted to take her to bed, or checking her butt or any other part of her body... she felt like he was liking her. Liking the way she looked on that dress and enjoying her. Not her body, just Sera being under that particular dress. She didn’t know if it was because she hadn’t been around a man in a long time and that’s why she was liking it, or she was liking the fact that it was Bucky who just got mermerised by her, but there was one thing she knew. The butterflies going crazy on her stomach weren’t just there because she missed being looked like that.
“Even if I was harsh with you, I do believe you two make a beautiful couple.” The women said once she grabbed Bucky’s credit card. She went completely silent waiting for Bucky to say something, but he didn’t know what to let out. “She’s a wonderful girl. And I noticed the way you looked at her,” the woman locked eyes with him and let out a tiny, genuine smile “you seem to like her very much.” As soon as those words hit Bucky’s ears his heart dropped to his stomach and not wanting to appear weird, he let out a tiny smile to the woman and nodded, even if that made him look even more weird that he already looked.
Trying to block his mind from taking him places he didn’t want to, he looked around to the dresses he had on his side and tried to see every little detail their had. Flowers, glitter, sparkles, words, quotes, long, short sleeves, tight, loose, he saw everything that was left to see but even then, she was still on his mind. The feeling of having her by his side and calling her his girlfriend... it seemed so weird and yet there he was, imagining it since the old lady said it.
“Bye!” So lost on his thoughts, Bucky didn’t realised that Sera left the changing room and was now by his side, with his payed dress on her hand and waving the card in front of Bucky’s face. “Thank you for your help!” The old lady winked at her and that made Sera turn around to face Bucky confused, who just gently grabbed her arm and dragged her out of the shop. “What happened?” Sera asked once their feet were out.
“Oh, nothing, nothing.” Bucky said, wanting to leave everything that happened inside that store behind.
“How did it go?” Sam asked the moment his eyes crossed with Sera’s after waiting for them in the car.
“Oh, Sam,” Sera said with a smile after arriving next to him “Bucky got told off by an old lady. It was awesome.”
Sam, confused and surprised at Sera’s words, turned to Bucky who seemed tired and annoyed at the whole situation, but before he could ask something about it Bucky lifted his hand and stopped him. “Don’t ask.” He said before going inside the car, leaving a very confused Sam behind.
The whole way to the apartment Sera and Sam spent talking about their mission and what was next. The night was coming closer and they needed to have everything in order, according more to Sam than to Sera. The car and then the apartment was filled with their voices going back and forth, nothing much out of the ordinary. Expect for one thing, Bucky didn’t let out a word since they all left the mall. It was definitely something weird coming from him since he always had something to say or even be grumpy about, but this time nothing but silence was coming out of his mouth.
Sera, of course, noticed this since once she called him screwdriver he didn’t even let out the same annoyed smile he would always do. Nothing.
Preparing herself for the night that was coming, she walked into the bathroom and took all of her clothes from her body to put on the red dress and black shoes she bought. Sera’s mind knew that she had to be thinking of Angela and that maybe this night club could lead her to her friend, but for some reason, Bucky didn’t seem to want to leave her thoughts. Since she noticed his silence the moment at the store was going around her mind like crazy. She didn’t know what she felt or what it meant, and not wanting to give much thought into it she focused her mind on the dress that her hands were now holding. But even if she tried her hardest, questions and more questions were appearing as the seconds were passing and the more ready she was to face whatever was outside that door.
Sera was the type to leave the fight unfinished or leave everything and end it herself, not wanting to put in danger the ones beside her. She wound usually leave every feeling untouched and save it inside a locked box in her brain, not wanting to open it ever again. And just like before and every thing she has ever done in her life, once her dress was on her and her shoes were ready to carry her anywhere, she grabbed every confused thought she had about Bucky and saved in a tiny box inside of her, with the intention to put it under every other box that was there and forget about it until her last breath.
Just like moments before, the moment she left the bathrooms the only voices surrounding the room and next thing the car, was Sam and Sera’s. The car street lights of the night started to get into the car as they were closer and closer to the night club. Having so many thoughts inside her brain, Sera didn’t realise this was the first time in a long time where she went undercover. Where she went out and put her life on the line because of a mission, so the moment she realised and all those ugly memories came back to her mind her heart started to beat faster as Sam’s words were coming out of his mouth talking about being careful and such. Her fingertips were feeling the heat going towards them as her hands became hotter and hotter every second. Sera closed her eyes and let out a breath trying to calm herself down, and try to remind herself over and over again that that wasn’t her life anymore. And this time was to save a friend, to keep her safe and fix her mistakes. Nothing more than.
Once her heart came back to normal and the feeling of the air being thicker around her disappeared, she opened her eyes and immediately locked eyes with Bucky in the car’s mirror. Sera wanting to know what they were saying kept the eye contact with him, but before she could let out a single thought, Bucky looked around towards the window as Sam kept talking about the mission.
As soon as her eyes noticed the red neon sign spelling the words “the red velvet club” Sera pulled out her phone and unlocked it to search the text with the guy she contacted to get the tickets to go in. Letting Sam and Bucky know she was going to the front door to make sure everything was alright, she walked out of the car once Sam parked it and started walking towards the big men with black suits on.
“What about you?” Sam asked the second Sera was out of his sight, making a very confused Bucky locked eyes with him.
“Me?”
“You’re quiet. I mean, I’m not complaining. Believe me, this is like a dream come true. Just a little confused on why.”
Bucky shook his head and shrugged his shoulders, not wanting to show any other emotions out. “I’m fine.”
“I didn’t ask if you were fine, I asked why you’re quiet.”
“It sounded like you were asking that.”
“You putting words in my mouth now?”
“What? No!”
Sam looked over to where Sera left and then went back to Bucky, with a grin on his face. “Is it Sera?” Not getting a response back, Sam took that as a yes and asked again: “What happened today and why did you got told off by an old lady?”
“It was nothing.” Bucky answered quickly not wanting to talk about the subject, but the now lifted eyebrow on Sam’s face made his words let out before he could think about them. “Alright, the old lady at the store thought me and Sera were together, and you know her, she played it along and it ended with me getting told off because I didn’t compliment her enough.” As soon as Bucky finished Sam let out a laugh and nodded quickly. “What?”
“That sounds like something she would do.”
“Annoy me? Yes, it does.”
Sam shook his head and went silent while looking at Bucky. “You know, I kinda see it.” He said after a couple of seconds in silence.
“What?”
“You and her. Together. Now that would be a power couple, if you ask me. Your death stare and her red eyes? Wow!” And there it was again, the same feeling Bucky had on the store came back to his body and that made him move uncomfortably on his seat. Sam, noticing this, let out a tiny laugh and grabbed Bucky’s arm. “Oh, am I seeing all the cables on your head malfunctioning? I can see them going all crazy, yes, they’re failing!” He said jokingly as Bucky was facing the other way annoyed, but that didn’t stop him, Sam kept laughing enjoying his little joke he just made. When the silence surrounded the car once again, Sam gently punched Bucky’s shoulder and said softly: “She’s a nice girl, Bucky.”
Bucky let out a tiny sigh turning to face Sam. “I know that. But-”
“But what? Wait, do you have some feelings for her?”
“What? No! Why would you think that?”
“It looked like you were going to say that you do.”
“Oh, you’re putting words in my mouth now?”
“Nice one.” Waiting for Bucky to speak again and answer his question, Sam pushed his arm and waved his hands around impatiently. “So!?”
“So what?” Understanding the look on Sam’s face Bucky quickly shook his head. “No!”
“No? Nothing? Do you feel nothing?”
Bucky nodded. “Nothing.”
Sam noticed the little nod Bucky did and the words that came out of his mouth that were completely different. So he took a mental note and kept it on his brain. “Alright. If you say so.” Bucky nodded again and Sam let out a tiny smile, noticing this little action again on Bucky. Even if Sam couldn’t read minds it seemed like, in a way, he could. Since he was right. Bucky did say nothing but inside his brain, he thought of maybe having some sorts of feelings towards Sera made him and his mind go all sorts of crazy. And he had been there before, so repenting it wasn’t something he wanted to do.
>>>
“You better not get drunk tonight, Mr.” Sera said arriving next to Bucky while the music at the club was hitting their ears. The people around them were dancing and having drinks like there was no tomorrow. Even if the lights were as dark as the room itself the moment Sera arrived next to Bucky she quickly noticed the drink on his hand and his wet lips from taking a sip a second earlier.
“I can’t get drunk.” Bucky said shaking his head before taking the glass to his mouth and dropping half of it inside his mouth.
“Oh, wow, I don’t know if I should feel sorry or envy you.” Sera let her back rest on the counter while her eyes where wondering around the room. “Do you miss it?”
“What? Getting drunk and feeling my head wanting to explode the day after? Not really.”
“Oh, c’mon, what about the fun of drinking and doing shit you’ll regret later, like texting an ex or making out with the first person you see?”
“I can still do that.” Bucky let out a tiny smile but as soon as he saw Sera’s excited face he erased it, knowing what going to happen next.
“Uh! Tell me about those things you did and that you regretted later. Spill the tea.” Sera turned to the side and got closer to Bucky, not wanting to miss any words coming out of his mouth. But Bucky furrowed his eyebrows confused before finishing his drink and leaving it on the counter.
“Spill the tea? Why would I spill the tea? What does that even mean?”
“It means that you spill all the secrets.”
“And why would I want to do that?”
“You don’t have to be so boring. C’mon, I want to know what did Bucky Barnes did when he was a young man, have you ever texted an ex? Hook up with more than three people in one night? C’mon, spill it!”
Bucky let out a long sigh. “And you say you’re not a kid?”
“Hey, screwdriver and torch,” Sam said on their ears “focus on finding the guy, would you? We have a mission to do. Damn! I can’t see shit from up here.” Sera turned to her left and looked up to see Sam on the second floor surrounded by people dancing.
“Those names are never going to get old, are they?” She asked shaking her head after going to back to Bucky, who slowly shook his head.
“Knowing Sam... no.”
After looking around Sera left Bucky behind and started walking around the night club to see if there was something out of the ordinary. But nothing caught her attention, people were dancing, drinking, making out, she even heard some loud fights as she was walking. But nothing that could lead to the guy named Jayme. Going back to the counter and grabbing the drinks menu, she turned her head down but kept her eyes looking up trying to see if anyone with white hair caught her attention, but just like before, nothing. No one that looked like the description the girl at the coffee shop gave them. Soon after she was joined by Bucky but by the way he looked, Sera knew that he didn’t have anything either.
Not having any progression whatsoever, Sera called the bartender and, seconds later, she transformed into a business woman that wanted to work with the boss. So getting the part right, she started asking questions left and right, getting the answer she wanted.
“So, waiting it is.” Sera said when the bartender walked away, after telling Sera the Big Man didn’t came out for another half hour. She turned to the big fake red throne that was on the right side of the night club and sighed, seeing the empty sit under the dark light. “I hate waiting.” She said once she turned towards the counter and grabbed the drinks menu once again.
“Are you old enough to drink?” Bucky asked next to her, looking down to the menu on Sera’s hand.
“Yeah,” Sera said with an eyebrow lifted confused “since like five years ago. How old do you think I am?”
Bucky shrugged his shoulders locking eyes with Sera. “Like twenty.”
“You know, being 106 years old doesn’t mean that you have to act like a grumpy old man.”
“If I want to.”
Sera rolled her eyes and went back to the menu between her hands. “What a fun life- Oh! There’s a drink called ‘Fire Ball’. I think I’m gonna like that one.”
Seconds later, Sera’s hand was now holding her cold drink while Bucky was just staring at her and her little smile on her face. He moved to the side trying to keep his mind focus on the people around him but once Sera lifted her cup to stare at the weird red liquid inside of it, Bucky’s head unintentionally turned back to her to look at her dark pink lips. So focused on her drink, she slightly opened her mouth and tilted her head to the side which made it easier for Bucky to see her cheeks and lips under the dark light. He didn’t know what it was about them, but he couldn’t stop staring at them. It was like he was under some spell and his eyes were glued to her. Suddenly, when she licked her lips making them shine against the light, Bucky quickly moved his eyes to the side when the strange desire of tasting her lips appeared on his. Wondering how they felt like he strengthen his back and moved uncomfortably on his place. But once again, like she was screaming his name, Bucky went back to look at her and immediately stared at Sera’s tongue moving between her lips as she was so focused staring at the strange looking drink. Like a fast train, the image of Bucky’s tongue playing with hers appeared on his mind but quickly wanting to erase it, he moved his head side to side and cleared his throat, embarrassed of his wild thoughts.
At that point, Bucky was so confused on why his mind was having those kind of strange desires and images. He didn’t know what to do or how to stop it, and watching Sera lick her lips once again wasn’t helping him.
“I wonder how they made this.” Sera said innocently, like she didn’t had the man by her side wanting to taste her lips as he was grabbing her cheek with his cold metal arm.
Before Bucky could get his thoughts in order and let out a single word, a guy appeared next to Sera and said with a grin: “You need to be careful with that one, they say it burns your throat like fire.”
Sera turned to the man and looked him up and down. He had a black suit on with a black shirt underneath. His black gloves were hiding his hands but they seemed to be bigger than Sera’s. His hair was brown and messy but it looked good on him and his pink thick lips, they went well with his sharp jawline and big eyebrows. He was definitely tall, probably to heads taller, making his big shoulders look even more bigger from Sera’s perspective. He was ms very was attractive. Looking down to his chest noticing the little name tag and reading “Lyle” Sera smiled to herself and then nodded, going back to his dark green eyes.
“I think I’ll be just fine.” She said seconds before lifting her drink and moving it towards her mouth. Feeling the hot liquid going down her throat Sera closed her eyes and enjoyed it, that usual sensation against her skin and throat going down to her stomach. It was burning like fire, but being Sera, that was just another normal feeling for her.
“Wow. I’m impressed.” Lyle said after Sera opened her eyes and noticing that not single muscle from her face moved since she took that liquid inside her body.
Sera smiled proudly while getting her face closer to Lyle’s. “Not my first time having fire go down my throat.”
Lyle let out a laugh taking Sera’s word as a joke, even if there were nothing but the truth.
“Are you from around here?” He asked.
“Not really. How about you?”
“Yeah, I know a guy that works here so I come pretty often.”
As soon as he said those words Sera’s suspicions bacame true and the opening to finding something out appeared right in front of her eyes. “Interesting.” Sera slowly nodded. “How do you know him?”
“Work.”
“What kind of work?” She asked innocently.
Lyle let out a tiny laugh and then looked the other way. “I’m pretty sure a girl like you doesn’t want to know about the kind of work that I do.”
“A girl like me?” Sera asked with her eyebrows lifted but then when she got not answer from him, she slowly nodded. Even if she was annoyed the guy was playing hard, she let out a little smile not wanting to show any bad emotions to Lyle. “Alright. You’re the mysterious guy, got it.”
“I’m not the mysterious guy.” Lyle let out a laugh once he locked eyes with Sera once again. “I just don’t think your innocent mind would understand what I do. That’s all.”
Sera felt that usual burning sensation on her chest after hearing those words, but instead of burning the guy to the ground like her eyes wanted, she just tilted her head to the side innocently and bit her lower lip. “What makes you think I’m innocent?”
“With that pretty face of yours, c’mon, it’s pretty obvious. I just know you won’t like it, so you and your pretty face can stay being pretty and not worry about anything else.”
Sera smiled even if her mind was planning murder right on that second. She felt her veins pounding as her blood was running faster than before, the anger that was growing on her body felt like it was going to explode the fire inside, but controlling it she let out a tiny laugh and got even more closer to Lyle, who directly looked at her lips and let out a grin.
“And let the men work, right?” She asked.
“Exactly.” Lyle’s grin turned into a smile, and that didn’t help his case on not dying under Sera’s eyes. “I like that we’re starting to understand ourselves.” Sera nodded taking her hand towards his arm and touching it gently ignoring the fact that she felt disgusted by doing it. “Would you like to dance?” Lyle asked noticing her arm and looking back at her desirable eyes.
Sera’s mind was screaming at her to call the whole thing off but wanting to find out more about him and his work was even stronger. So once she nodded with a smile, Lyle let out a grin and moved his arm towards Sera’s back but before his hand could get to her waist, a cold metal arm grabbed it and pushed it away.
Feeling the coldness on her back, Sera turned around and looked at Bucky, who’s jaw was tensed and was looking at Lyle with his killing stare.
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you.” Bucky said walking closer to Sera and standing right next to her. She looked at him confused not understanding what was his deal, she was getting close to the guy that might have information and there was Bucky, killing him with his eyes.
“Boyfriend?” Lyle asked turning to Sera.
“He wishes.” She said, trying to not sound angry at Bucky ruining her opportunity.
“Alright then.” Lyle said even if Bucky still wasn’t taking his eyes away from him. “So? How about that dance?” He was about to grab Sera’s waist once again but before he could get any closer, Bucky stepped in front of her to look down at Lyle.
“The lady is going to pass.” Bucky said firmly.
Confused as ever, Sera stepped to the side and touched his shoulder to move him back but he barely moved.
“Bucky.” Sera said to gain his attention but it was useless, he didn’t want to let go of Lyle.
“Hey, how about you leave the pretty lady alone so she can dance with me, alright? I promise I’m gonna take good care of her. She’s in good hands.”
Sera closed his eyes feeling sorry for Lyle since his words weren’t going to help the fact that an angry Bucky wanted to separate his neck from his head right on that moment. For whatever reason.
“Do you still want to keep those hands?” Bucky said firmly getting closer to Lyle’s face and getting his jaw even more tensed that before. It looked like it was going to break the next second. But before Bucky could move another muscle, Sera grabbed his shoulder once again, and this time with more strength and anger inside her body.
“Bucky-"
“What’s your problem, man? Are you seriously angry because she wants me and not you?” The need to punch Lyle became even more stronger for Sera right as he said those words. He was going to be crashed and he didn’t even knew. He had balls for facing someone as frightening looking as Bucky, Sera had to give him that. Stupid, but brave.
“You don’t want to see me angry.” Bucky said once again, trying to kill him with his eyes.
“Bucky!”
“Do you want to take this outside?” Lyle let out a laugh and then turned to grab Sera’s hand and lock eyes with her. “Do you mind, sweetheart? I know it won’t take long.” He was about to give her hand a kiss but before his lips could get anywhere else Bucky grabbed his hand and quickly twisted it to make Lyle leave Sera’s hand alone.
“Hey, hey,” Sam, finally, appeared from behind Bucky and grabbed his shoulder. “chill man.”
“Who are you?!” Lyle asked grabbing his hand in pain.
“I’m sorry, man, why don’t I buy you a drink and we can forget about all of this, huh? Sounds good?” Sam said as Bucky turned the other way and let the biggest angry sigh out of his mouth.
“Whatever. She’s not that worth it, anyway.” Lyle said before shaking his head and walking away, leaving a very confused Sera behind.
“What the fuck was that about?” Sera yelled while turning to Bucky once her mind fully processed what just happened.
“Guys-” Sam lifted his hand to stop Bucky and Sera from having a fight but it was too late, Bucky already turned to Sera to look at her angrily.
“I can ask you the same thing.” He said firmly with hot air coming out of his nose.
“What are you talking about? He said that he knew someone who worked here so I was trying to get more information.”
“Oh is that what you were doing? Because all I could see was you trying to get that guy inside your pants.” Sera opened her mouth offended and felt the fire growing on her fingertips.
“What the fuck is wrong with you? What is your problem?”
“My problem is you not being professional enough.” Bucky got closer to Sera’s face and felt how the air coming out of their mouths were mixing with each other.
“Says the guy who almost got into a fight because someone asked me to dance!”
Bucky let out a grin and licked his lips annoyed, before unintentionally looking down at Sera’s lips. “Just do your job, Thompson.” He said as he locked eyes with her once again.
“I will, Barnes.” Her firm tone felt like it could shake the walls of the night club if she wanted to.
The tension and the anger growing on their veins could be visible from their eyes. The anger each felt inside of them was starting to make them feel like bombs about to explode. Neither of them knew why they felt so angry, but one thing was for sure, it wasn’t angry all they felt for the other.
“Hey, guys, stop it!” Sam put his hand on both chests and with strength pushed them apart, but Bucky and Sera didn’t take their eyes off the other. “Jesus! It looks like you two are going to burn each other with your own eyes.”
“If only I could.” Sera said shaking her head and turning to the side while crossing her arms around her chest.
“Well, maybe later because either someone’s been playing dress up or our guy is here.” As soon as Sam let out those words Bucky and Sera quickly turned to where Sam was looking at and immediately saw the big guy walking towards his big throne. He had a big brown coat on so the only thing there was left to see was his big and long black boots. His hair was long and blonde that went perfectly with his beard. But what caught everyone’s attention even more was the guy’s light blue eyes, almost grey, brighter than any other light at the night club. “Can you two children behave right now or am I going to have to do this alone because you two are going to kill each other?” Sam said gaining the looks of Bucky and Sera once again. Without looking at Bucky, Sera let out a long breath through her nose and walked towards the big guy and his big boy coat.
Sam, turning to Bucky he grabbed his shoulder as they both started to follow Sera.
“So, nothing, huh?” Sam asked after noticing Bucky’s eyes following Sera as she was walking away.
Bucky let out a long angry sigh before looking down to the floor as his feet were walking. That was what he said, and he still stood by it, but someone doesn’t do and feel all of that for someone that it’s just a “Nothing.”

April 2021 Picks

And we’re back with the end to another month. April! Wow! Lots more great picks to talk about this time. Lots of new ones to the list too. So, let’s dive in!
Spoiler territory ahead!

THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER
or should I say Captain America and the Winter Soldier
I just finished the finale last night, so it felt right to start off with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. I really enjoyed it and I feel the episodes got stronger as the series went on. Each one felt like a mini-movie and I was upset it was over and had to wait another week for another one. I think the finale was my favorite. Especially the reveal of Sam as Captain America. I love his suit, his speech and the montage of everyone watching him. The last part of the episode was definitely my favorite and one I can watch on repeat. I loved seeing happy Bucky and him goofing off with the kids in Louisiana. He deserves so much happiness as he has now accepted he’s no longer who he once was. Bucky and Sam’s relationship is fantastic and I can’t wait to see it more. I know there’s a possibility of a second season and they have to be in a future MCU movie. Regarding the villain, I feel I was confused for most of the show as to what their objective was. I’m curious if this is because they had to reshoot parts during the pandemic. I also am mad with Sharon. Like what happened with her? She is definitely the true villain of the show. I also don’t love that we haven’t seen the end of Walker (but Wyatt Russell did a fantastic job). I also loved Torres and I hope he becomes the next Falcon. Definitely so different vibes from Wandavision, but just as good!

THE IRREGULARS
This is a show that more people need to be talking about! It was SO GOOD! I feel like I heard some buzz about it when it first came out, but not much after. It follows the teens featured about who live on the streets during Victorian London. The leader of their group, Bea gets approached by Dr. John Watson (that’s right...as in Sherlock and Watson) to take on a case that has more supernatural qualities. The story takes off from there. I think the group dynamic was fantastic. There wasn’t a character I didn’t like and each one brought something else important to the group (which they even bring up towards the end of the show). [I’ve watched a few cast interviews since finishing the finale and they seem like they get along really well in real life too.] There is a kind of love triangle, but it didn’t bother me and was over fast. I did like both combinations though. Lots of twists and turns along the journey. I have no idea if there will be another season, but there should be. It didn’t end on a major cliffhanger, but definitely ended in a way where it could continue nicely. Come on Netflix.

HBO’S THE NEVERS
From one show set in Victorian times to the next. The Nevers just premiered on HBO and HBO Max earlier this month. It follows an ensemble of characters, similar to other HBO shows, ranging from characters who are called “the touched” to men in government who are against them. Being “touched” means they have a special talent or power, which can range from healing to speaking other languages, being extremely tall, or being an expectational inventor (I seriously love Penance. I just don’t know how to explain her ability). Amalia True and Penance Adair are two of the main characters and they help bring in others who are touched to a remodeled orphanage that is a safe haven for people like them. Of course there are those who are against them existing. This seems to be at least two groups as someone is abducting and experimenting on some of the touched, but we don’t know who they are...yet. I love the fusion of a historical setting with a fantasy element. I am very excited to see where the show is headed. I also love seeing so many of my favorite British actors on the screen together.

ONCE UPON A TIME IN WONDERLAND
Time for a throw back. Fans of ABC’s Once Upon a Time might remember the short lived spin off following Alice in Wonderland (and some of Aladdin). It only lasted for one season of 13 episodes, but I remember loving it and I am so happy I can rewatch it on Disney Plus. It reminds me of why I enjoyed OUAT so much and I think this show deserved another season or more crossover with the original show. (Luckily the Knave got that opportunity.) I think it should have aired as a summer show or when OUAT was on hiatus, this way more fans would have tuned in. It is something I’ll believe forever.
Anyway, I’ll stop ranting now... I love Alice. I think she’s a badass and a fierce warrior. If you follow some of my posts on my other blog, Lydia-yougowith-Stiles, you’ll know that I love a warrior romance and Cyrus and Alice fit that perfectly (even if they are apart for much of the series). I also love Alice’s hair and outfits. Everything about her is cool. Her relationship with the Knave is one of my favorite friendships ever. I think they balance each other out so well and how they spend most of the journey together. Back in the day, I totally shipped them, but now I definitely don’t. (Even though I don’t love Anastasia.) This is definitely worth the watch if you’ve ever heard of Once Upon a Time or not. There is very cheesy CGI especially for 2013, but once you get pass that you’ll love it.

ZOEY’S EXTRAORDINARY PLAYLIST
It was on a longer break than I expected, and I didn’t miss it as much as I thought I would (which I know doesn’t sound good for a show), but I am still loving all the episodes this season. It feels like there are more musical numbers, which I love. Mandy Moore is killing it with the choreography. There are so many amazing moments. I also was a big fan of the newest glitch episode. Everyone is so talented and I also like that we’ve started to hear from more like Jenna and Tobin. Leif has become one of my favorites. I don’t love the new neighbor next door, but I think we’re done with his storyline. I’m not loving the Zoey love triangle, but I do like her with either Simon or Max. She seems really happy with Simon now. (FYI: I haven’t watched the most recent episode yet. The glitch one was my latest.) Can’t wait for more!

KUNG FU
CW’s newest show this month was Kung Fu, which I just learned was a reboot. It follows Nicky who returns after 3 years to her home in San Francisco. Her family has mixed feelings as she has had no contact with them for the last 3 years. She is now a Kung Fu master and warrior, out to avenge her mentor’s death and stop a villain from acquiring mythical weapons. The show gives me Arrow vibes every time I watch it. It has similar flashbacks each episode to an earlier time in Nicky’s life. While Nicky’s mission is different, the style just gives me early seasons of Arrow vibes, which I am not complaining about. It stars Legacies’ Alyssa Chen, who I didn’t love on Legacies, but instantly fell in love with Nicky. I think she’s a bad ass character and love how she’s fighting for the underdogs on the streets of San Fran, while also taking down a bigger evil. The love triangle is heating up and I’m definitely team Henry (even though there’s some mystery there). I think he’s great and once again we have an awesome warrior romance. They balance each other so well and it’s only been like 3 episodes. Now they’ve also been sleuthing together and it’s just amazing.

NANCY DREW
Are you sick of hearing me talk about CW’s Nancy Drew? I hope not because Im going to fangirl again. I LOVE THIS SHOW SO MUCH! I can’t wait till Wednesday comes and I tune in a little after it starts, so then I can fast forward on my DVR. Then when the episode is over I basically start it all over again and watch select scenes that were awesome. (More specifically, they tend to be Nancy and Ace scenes because I love them and we’re entering so much angst I don’t know if my heart will be able to handle it!!!)
I’ll say it a thousand times: THIS CAST IS EVERYTHING! Their dynamic is amazing. You can have any match ups and it’ll be a great time. There is not one person I don’t like. I was so upset that there wasn’t a new episode last week (especially because it was my birthday). I loved the last one with the Hardy Boys and that Nace reveal! OMG! I’m so sad that Grant has left again because we barely had him, but I feel he’ll eventually come back. He has to. I loved the ending when he spoke to Thom by signing to him. (My heart!) I seriously can’t say enough great things about this show. It is not your typical CW show and deserves more love and views. So happy a third season has already been confirmed!!

Just started Shadow and Bone on Netflix and am loving it! I’m sure I’ll have an entire post dedicated to it when I’m done. (Currently going to start episode 6.) I have no background on the universe or the books (just what my sister is filling me in with as we watch). I definitely plan on reading Six of Crows after this!

So what are you enjoying? Let me know. I’m always looking for more shows to add to the list! Can never have enough.

Kind of spoilers for WandaVision and Falcon and the Winter Soldier..
Okay so I haven’t seen many people on here talking about how quickly they are introducing all of the Young Avengers members into the MCU lately. I mean, we already have Tommy and Billy but I was surprised that they have brought in Patriot already and I’m sure they are going to introduce his character some more in the next few episodes (for the people who haven’t read the Young Avengers comics, Patriot is Eli Bradley who is the grandson of Isaiah who Sam and Bucky met in the latest episode and who I can only assume was the young boy who they met going into the house, also it’s worth noting that Isaiah was the original Patriot and is also know as “Black Captain America” which is a really nice tie in to that little boy who called Sam “Black Falcon”!).
As for the other members, Hawkeye (Kate Bishop) will be introduced in the upcoming Hawkeye series, I have a big theory for how they will bring Child Loki into the MCU and will write that up soon, with America Chavez she comes from a world that was created by Billy and she travels from her world to Earth-616 to protect Billy so he can make her world in the future so it would make sense to possibly see her or her world in the Dr Strange movie or maybe see her help Wanda get the boys back, Marvel Boy and Hulkling are both related to the Kree and Skrull so that cameo at the end of WandaVision could lead to them being introduced, Prodigy is a mutant so if he is going to be a part of it he could show up when the mutants are introduced, Cassie Lang is already a part of the MCU so it would be easy to see her become a Young Avenger (but *POSSIBLE SPOILER* she only gets her powers after her dad, Scott Lang, dies which would be sad to see), as for Iron Lad (Nathaniel Richards) and Vision (Jonas) I honestly don’t remember much about them but I know that Nathaniel is Kang the Conqueror that done some sort of time travel or something and I think I heard somewhere that Kang might be showing up soon but I can’t be certain on that.
Also any LGBTQ+ Marvel fans will be happy to hear that (from what I can remember) most if not all members of the Young Avengers are queer so it should bring some good representation into Marvel and I’m just really excited for it!
All in all this is all really quickly falling into place so I’m hoping that a Young Avengers movie or series will be announced for Phase 5 at the least. But anyway this was longer then I thought it was going to be so thank you for coming to my Ted Talk!

I watched The Falcon And The Winter Soldier and I liked it more that I expected, although frankly I didn't expect much. Overall, I love the setting, the cinematography and the character development. The director and the writers did an excellent job. But it also sent me down an emotional roller-coaster and that's the thing I really need to talk about.
I know there are countless rants about TFATWS, Endgame, queerbaiting and poor MCU narratives but I've never really been hanging out in the fandom until recently so for me it's my first one and I need to get it off my chest. It's gonna be long.
It was interesting to see where the show's gonna take things but start to end there was an elephant in the room. It doesn't sit well with me the way they completely sidestepped the Steve Rogers issue. Like, "we didn't make this mess, so we're not gonna go there". And it's just wrong. You can't just avoid the subject altogether and pass it on for future writers to handle. Also, you see Bucky so sad and lonely it breaks your heart. And this inevitably made me think about Endgame and Cap's storyline. I didn't feel like writing it all down after Endgame but now all these thoughts and feelings came up again and I need to get it off my chest. If they ended it all at Endgame, and I thought they did, it would have been fine, sort of. We'd forgive some loose ends. But they didn't end it there and that makes them fully responsible for this mess. I mean, I didn't hate Cap's ending. After all, it could have been worse. Steve could get together with Sharon like in the comics and they probably considered it at some point but the reactions were so bad they backed down and dragged Peggy along. Still, the ending just felt forced, no matter how you look at it. The thing is, if I knew about it after the first movie, I'd rejoice. But at this point, after everything that went down after, it just doesn't feel right. I love Peggy and I can't deny the dance scene made me flutter a little but now I wish this was Steve's way to keep his promise before going back. In the end, Peggy would be fine without him. She had a good life, she made a career and a family. We know that thanks to Agent Carter. And we got many cues that Steve and Peggy's relationship, as important as it was, was over. Her saying goodbye to him by destroying the serum, him carrying her casket... Yet, Endgame effectively undermined that basically erasing all of these events from existence and making Peggy just a prize for Captain America. On the other hand, Bucky needed Steve the most. And the show made it clear how bruised and broken he was. Bucky and Steve's relationship was the closest of any relationship in the MCU. At that point it was clear Bucky was everything to him, the only one who could truly understand him. Steve lost him many times and every time he fought to bring him back, no matter how impossible it seemed. When Bucky was captured Steve went into an enemy base alone on a suicidal mission and saved him and everyone else. That's basically how he became Captain America. Then Bucky got killed in the war and it devastated him. Bucky returned as Winter Soldier and there was hardly any Bucky left in him but Steve nearly let himself be killed because he needed to save him and he trusted that James would not hurt him. When Bucky finally got to his senses, there was an ultimate war going on and in the Snap James fell to dust in front of Steve's eyes. It took 5 years to get him back. And as soon as Steve succeeded, he left him, along with the rest of his traumatized friends and the world in deep chaos, to be with Peggy in 1940's, thus throwing 12 years of his life away. It just didn't feel right. That does a disservice to both Steve and Peggy's storylines. But it's not just about Peggy or Bucky. Steve going back and living his life to return to that park as an old man has opened a rift with a host of questions. I tried to get to the bottom of it but it got me nowhere. According to Russo, when Steve went back he created an alternate reality. He also retired as Captain America. First off, I think he just made that up after to cover up the mess. If that was the case, Cap would return to the designated spot and not be sitting on a bench like he was waiting there all along. But, like, even if it was alternate reality, it could not be that different, right? He wouldn't just live in Peggy's basement, would he? He knew about the things to come like, you know, the HYDRA thing, and being the man that he was, he couldn't just sit and do nothing. Especially when Peggy was one of the founders of the SHIELD. Captain America or not, Steve would do everything to make this world a
better place. Also, if Steve went back after he crashed that plane, that means there's another Steve still locked in ice, which Russo confirmed. Even more importantly, in Steve's timeline Bucky is still with Hydra being tortured. There's no way he could leave him there. So much for the 'quiet life'. Then there are the writers of Endgame who claim that Peggy's two children are fathered by Steve. Really? That directly contradicts the earlier version that the father is a soldier Steve saved, which is shown in Agent Carter. Seriously, guys, if you're gonna make up random bullshit at least get your stories straight first. Fans love to make all sorts of theories to try and patch up the holes but the truth is, MCU is not just one mastermind's creation and the comics weren't either. It's bound to be a mess because it's created by dozens of writers and directors and each phase gets increasingly messier because it has to fit in with the 547 previously released movies and shows. I get that and I applaud the effort of Endgame but they really can't expect us to get involved with the characters only to see them being treated as an afterthought. And the thing is, I thought that it might be just me but after a quick survey of the fandom I realized that a lot of people feel the same way. If you look at the comment section of nearly any relevant video, you're gonna get top comments saying all these things. If Marvel listened just once maybe things would make more sense. And all these thoughts aren't necessarily what I wanted to see, but what would be right for the characters. And while I do love Stucky, I'm a reasonable shipper and I really didn't expect them to be canon gay or anything, I just wished they had at least spent some time together not fighting, just healing and catching up on their lives. Honestly, I don't always like the way people ship m/m characters in every show but this time it was really more than justified. The whole storyline going through Winter Soldier and Civil War was just massive queerbaiting. It was undeniably a love story, romantic or not. "Why do you ship male characters?" some people ask. Idk, maybe if the writers put half the effort into developing m/f relationships as they do m/m ones and not just randomly throw them together I might care about them. And MCU was terrible with romance. That traumatic kiss Steve had with Sharon Carter? In the comics, Steve did love Sharon but who cares? In MCU they met, like, twice. Mostly after Peggy's funeral. Peak romance. If they had to pick a new love interest they could go with Natasha. They cared about each other, they bonded in TWS and they were both dealing with some difficult issues. But they became just good friends, which I loved. Instead, Natasha got together with Banner? And then there's Wanda and Vision, which seemed like the most random of pairings with no buildup whatsoever. The wonderful world of heteronormativity where a witch/robot couple comes before a gay one. And the thing is, I only recently learned that there's some legit leverage to portray Bucky as gay. Bucky is based on two characters from the comics. Bucky Barnes was Steve's teen sidekick, kinda like Robin, so this origin was too weird for MCU. Instead, the writers used the origin story from a character named Arnie. It was a boy Steve grew up with, a boy who protected him from bullies, and a boy who kept inviting Steve to these double dates. A boy who was gay. Which wasn't explicitly stated but was pretty obvious. And this was in 1984. So making Bucky gay would be neither woke nor against 'canon'. It would be way overdue. So with TFTWS it was nice to see Bucky recover and bond with Sam but to me the whole ending also felt a bit excessively positive and this time the queerbaiting felt even more intentional, almost as if the writers wanted to distract the discontent fans with a new shiny ship so they forgot all the things they were mad about. Like, of course I want Bucky to be happy but also I hate the way the show's pushing the idea that he just needs to get over losing Steve and move
on with his life already because surely all his problems come from his inability to trust people and not trying hard enough, and not from being brainwashed and tortured for 70 years and then losing the only person who loved and cherished him.

What I Thought About The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
Salutations to you, random people on the internet who most likely won't read this. I am an Ordinary Schmuck. I write stories and reviews and draw comics and cartoons!
Gonna be honest, I didn't think The Falcon and the Winter Soldier needed to be a full-length TV series. I mean, if Spider-Man can discover that he didn't have to replace Iron Man in a two-hour and nine-minute long movie, then the Falcon can learn he can't replace Steve Rogers in the same amount of time, right? I was excited, don't get me wrong, but I didn't know how they can fit a plot for a movie into a six-hour-long series. Unlike WandaVision, which needed to be a TV show to get those TV homages right for each episode, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier didn’t sound like something that would honestly work better as a film. But, once it started airing, and my excitement increased each week, I can positively say that it would not have worked as successfully if it wasn't a TV series.
Unfortunately, I'll have to get into spoilers to explain why, but trust me when I say that if you haven't checked it out yet, you definitely should. Because I'm about to dive in (or fly in) as I explain why The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is easily in the top tier MCU projects.
WHAT I LIKE
Sam Wilson: If WandaVision was about developing Wanda, then The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is about developing Sam. He might share the spotlight with Bucky, but this is so clearly Sam's story. It's his journey of becoming the new Captain America that gets more of a focus, and it is one of the best aspects of the series. And as I said, it's similar to Spider-Man's journey in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Sure, this time, it's more about stepping up to the mantle, but both Sam and Peter have to learn how to be their own hero rather than replace the one left behind. In Sam's case, it's more than just being the new Captain America, but also being the black Captain America. I'll talk more about the implications of that later, but for now, all I'll say is that it was so engaging seeing Sam accept his role. Plus, even though Sam tries to carry Steve's title, that doesn't mean he's Steve Rogers 2.0. He has his own ardor and personality as Captain America, on top of still representing the aspects of what that title entails. Partial credit for that goes to Anthony Mackie, who does a phenomenal job of portraying a man who's inspirational and charming in all forms of hell. I'd salute him as much as I'd want to have a beer with him...except not really because I refuse to touch a single drop of alcohol. But Sam Wilson would make me consider it! Because he's that good of a character.
Bucky Barnes: Much like Vision in WandaVision, Bucky takes the sidelines as Sam acts as the main face of the series. Unlike Vision, however, Bucky's story seems more like its own thing rather than something that's connected with his co-star. In a way, it's better, but it also seems worse. Because without having it be locked with Sam's story, Bucky's is still compelling as it develops him further in his own way. His journey may not be as engaging as Sam's, but it's still entertaining enough to watch his own narrative get continued in small spurts. Although, the fact that Bucky's story has little to do with Sam's does have the unfortunate side-effect that he doesn't need to be there. His inclusion is very much welcomed, but I feel like Bucky dealing with his own guilt and trauma as the Winter Soldier could be something that can fill up its own series rather than half of one. That being said, Bucky absolutely needs to be in this show. The emotional turmoil that Sabastian Stan portrays so well hits hard, and his dry humor works for some comedic highlights. Bucky's half of the story might be unnecessary for plot reasons, but it is unquestionably necessary for enjoyment.
There’s a lot of talking: This seems like a misstep, especially since most superhero shows are bogged down by characters talking to pad out the run time. Although, the dialogue in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is more like the dialogue in the series Daredevil. There are more words than action, but nearly every line is so incredibly engaging that I do not care. Sam and his sister talking to a banker about getting a loan might not sound as entertaining as Sam being in an air chase against terrorists, but I surprisingly held onto every word being said due to how well-acted it was. Plus, these discussions help make these characters more human on top of making the world feel believable. I understand the argument of show don't tell, but to me, as long as the dialogue is written well enough and said convincingly, I can learn to live with it.
The Flag Smashers: The concept of the Flag Smashers intrigues me. The idea that a group of people believes things were actually better when half the world got turned to dust is a perfect concept for the MCU to explore. In fact, this is the third story in a row that dives deep into the consequences of what happened post-Infinity War and Endgame, and I'm all for it! The universe is forever changed by this one big event, and it's not going to be irrelevant anytime soon. For the Flag Smashers, they offer the most striking glimpse of how the world is forever changed. Now, I'll admit, after seeing doom and gloom in Avengers: Endgame, it would be better to see the benefits of the Blip that characters claim to have existed rather than told about them. But seeing how there were dozens of fans who made the audacious claim that Thanos was right, I don't consider it too far of a stretch to believe that the Flag Smashers could exist. Especially since the arguments that characters present do seem persuasive enough. It's only the actions that the group makes that derail any sense of the discussion. But in a good way...for the most part. But I’ll get into that later too.
The Reveal of the new “Captain America”: This was the dirtiest, sickening punch in the gut that the first episode could have ended on...and I love it!
John Walker: I often find the best antagonists are the ones I'm willing to psychologically analyze. That's John Walker in a nutshell. He is an arrogant ass who deserved to get slapped around when taking things too far. Yet, I always find myself coming back to those scenes where he seems conflicted about becoming the new Captain America. I get a sense that he genuinely wants to do the right thing and those moments when he asks if he is all but confirms it. John's problem is the constant support he's given by his friends. I'd argue that building his ego is the very reason why he gets frustrated so quickly by people denying him, as he often reacts like a toddler who throws a tantrum when a parent makes the "mistake" of saying “no.” This is why it's satisfying seeing people more powerful than John kick the s**t out of him because it results in his ego going through a well-needed deflation. Still, the constant frustrations he has for not being respected as the new Captain America makes his further descent into insanity all the more appealing to watch. Because him taking the super-soldier serum proves Dr. Erskine's theory is true: "Good becomes great. Bad becomes worse."
...And this is why the writers dropped the ball when trying to make John Walker redeemable. It's exceptional if that was the intention. After all, I did say there were glimpses of a man who wanted to become great, not worse. However, given what John does in later episodes, we're going to need more than glimpses to believe his switch from bad to good. Especially since his decision to set his anger aside to suddenly help people is a little too unbelievable for my tastes given how fast it happens. It's not an awful decision. It's just one that needed a bit more polish. I still find John Walker an incredible character regardless, but I don't blame people for being a tad more hesitant given how poorly paced his redemption arc came across as.
Readapting “Star-Spangled Man”: I adore this for two reasons.
Reason #1: It's a solid callback to Captain America: The First Avenger, which I will always stand by as my favorite Captain America movie.
Reason #2: It proves how much John Walker doesn't understand what it means to be Captain America. When Steve did this song and dance routine in his movie, he hated it. Better yet, Steve despised it. Because he wasn't helping anybody. He was just being a dancing monkey to appeal to civilians, and you see how much he regrets doing it with each show. For John, he relishes the whole thing, because of course, he would! John loves having his ego appealed to, and this routine is doing nothing but inflates it. It's a solid case of visual storytelling to prove to the audience just how disconnected John is from being Captain America. Steve or Sam wouldn't have done this, because being a hero is more than respect and adoration. It's about actually doing the right thing. A lesson that John desperately needs to learn.
Sam’s and Bucky’s bromance: You remember how I said that Bucky's dry sense of humor can be a comedic highlight? Well, that's only second rate to the times he and Sam bicker like an old married couple. Whether it's because of the writing, directing, or Makie’s and Stan's natural chemistry, seeing Sam and Bucky interact with each other is always a blast to see. And on top of being funny, there are these well-handled moments of drama shared between both characters that make their relationship convincing. It's why you can't have this series without Bucky, despite it so clearly being Sam's story that gets the more focus. Because without either character, we would miss out on some entertaining interactions that I wouldn't trade for anything else for this series.
Isaiah Bradely: Well, this character was a pleasant surprise. Although, "pleasant" might not be the right word because every scene with Isaiah is absolutely gut-wrenching in all the right ways. Carl Lumbly gives a phenomenal performance for a character that has been beaten down, with very little hope he has for any change that matters for his race. Plus, his backstory may not be as unbelievable as you might think. Between 1932-1972, America performed what is known as the Tuskegee Experiment. Scientists tested the effects of syphilis by injecting it into African Americans, telling them that they were receiving free health care when they didn't. So the idea that scientists tested super-soldier serums on African Americans, not knowing the dangerous effects, is not that far of a stretch. Neither is the knowledge that a black man was disrespected despite fighting hard for his country. If you researched African American history, you'll find that this type of horse s**t happens way more times than it should. It is heartbreaking, and Isaiah Bradley represents all of it. Thus making the little Isaiah exhibit in the Captain America museum all the more tear jerking just because of how sweet it is to see him get some semblance of a win. This level of discussion of what it means to be an African American is something I never expected with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but I greatly appreciate it nonetheless. What's even better is that these discussions don't end with Isaiah.
The discussions of racism: Again, this was something I didn't expect, but grateful for it nonetheless. I mean, I should have expected it given that one of the co-stars is black, but given how the story was about Sam being the new Captain America, I didn't think discussion of racism and racial injustice would come into play. Turns out that I was naive to think those things are separate. The burden of being a black Captain America is something that not many white people, including myself, consider a big deal. But looking at America's past and how others react to any African American in power, you realize that, yes, it is a big deal. Isaiah, and several real-life POCs in history, prove that America doesn't respond well to a person of color being better than the average white man. So it is easily reasonable to believe that there would be issues with a black man becoming a symbol of what America should be. Hell, I'm willing to bet that there were issues when this happened in the comics way back when. Not because of some bulls**t about how it doesn't fit with the character or story, but solely because they can't handle a black Captain America. And if you don't believe something like this wouldn't happen to someone like Sam Wilson, look back to that scene with the police who didn't know he was the Falcon. This crap happens every day, and it's The Falcon and the Winter Soldier that shines a light on it. Despite being something I didn't expect, the talks of racism are very much appreciated. And I'm as pale white as an introverted vampire. I can't even begin to comprehend how the African American community must feel about all of this.
Zemo: Who the f**k expected this guy to be one of the best things in the series?!
Seriously, from Captain America: Civil War, I wasn't too into Zemo as a character. I loved the idea that this powerless guy tore apart the world's greatest superheroes through intelligence and coercion. But his needlessly complicated plan and stale personality weren't enough to win me over. So when he returned, I expected to dread every minute of it. Little did I know that Zemo's comeback would skyrocket him into top-tier MCU villain territory!
Zemo is a character that, despite "helping" our heroes, still works on his own agenda. He might put them on the right path and occasionally assist in a fight, but only because he still won't stop at anything to make sure fewer super powered individuals are in the world. Because that's the thing about Zemo: His motivation was fine and understandable to a point, but his personality was flawed in Civil War. Here, I finally see how Zemo can work. Despite having no power, he uses his mind to look for any angle to control the situation, gaining an advantage even if it is for a short time. For instance, while he can't harm Sam or Bucky without risking his own life or jeopardizing his temporary freedom, he can still annoy the hell out of them. Like when he forced Sam into a situation where he had to drink literal snake juice. It's actually a ton of fun to watch, and I'm honestly glad that Zemo gets to live to see tomorrow. It means that he might make another return, and I can't wait to see what's in store for him in the future. Which is something I didn't think I'd say five years ago.
The Dora Milaje: It was actually pretty cool seeing these characters make an appearance, notably when they slapped around John Walker like it was nothing. Although, a part of me wonders that if Chadwick Boseman hadn't died last year, we would get to see T'Challa himself make an appearance. This lines up with the character, as I can see him dropping everything to hunt down the man who killed his father. Which would be just as awesome, if not slightly more so, to see. Still, we work with what life gives us. And what it gave are awesome cameos that make the MCU feel more inclusive about its characters rather than limiting them to their specific sections in the universe.
Walker killing the Flag Smasher: There is something so wrong with seeing that shield stained with blood. 'Cause here's the thing: Captain American can kill. He's a soldier. It's expected for a soldier to take lives for the sake of justice. What John Walker did isn't justice. It was vengeance. Vengeance that is fueled by anger rather than the need to do the right thing. Because when Captain America leads an army to kill the man who whipped out half the universe, that's fighting for a just cause. But when “Captain America” kills a man, the wrong man, for killing his best friend, that is an act of selfishness that no one would see your side on. And it was the final nail in the coffin that proves how John Walker does not deserve that shield.
Sam and Bucky vs. John: This might just be the best fight in the entire series. Not only is it so satisfying to see John Walker get everything that he deserves, but the whole thing was pretty intense to watch. After seeing what John can do with that shield, it makes moments when Sam and Bucky barely dodge his attacks with it all the more blood-rushing to see. Plus, Civil War's motif playing the background is another solid callback that fits well narratively since this is technically two superheroes fighting another superhero. It's an incredible scene that was worth the wait of four hour-long episodes to see.
Setting up Joaquín Torres as the new Falcon: I don't know if Marvel will follow through with this or even if they should. That being said, if they do, I'm all for it. Joaquín already seems like a pretty fun character, and his interactions with Sam show there's enough chemistry there to give Captain America a new wingman. I probably won't lose sleep if he doesn't become the new Falcon, but I'll still be excited regardless.
Madame Hydra: I know that she has an actual name, but I refuse to remember it due to how long and convoluted it is.
Anywho, we get a small glimpse of who Madame Hydra is as a character, but already I'm intrigued. She seems to have a fun personality, added by Julia Louis-Dreyfus' dry energy. Whether this is set up for the next big bad or just introducing a fun character, I'm interested. Madame Hydra was already a blast in the short amount of time she was in the show, and I can't wait to see what future installments have in store for her.
“Louisiana Hero”: Or as I like to call it, "Sam's Hero Theme." Because while this is the track that plays for the intro, it still shows up when Sam is training as the new Captain America. Not only is it insanely catchy, but I love that you hear a hint of the theme of Captain America: The First Avenger, yet "Louisiana Hero" is still very much its own thing. And that's another reason why I consider it Sam's motif because it fits precisely with the character. Sam is a person who has a hint of the good man that Steve was but still does his own thing when wearing the stars and stripes. Not a copy, but still heavily influenced by the original. So kudos to Henry Jackman for creating a musical piece that fits so well with a character far better than any other themes or motifs prevalent in the MCU. Because, let's be honest, there aren't that many.
Sam’s new suit: ...I mean, it looks cool. Kinda corny at times, sure, but points for comic accuracy.
Sam Carrying Karli: I mean, look at it.
This looks like something that should be painted and hung up on a wall due to how beautiful it looks.
Sam’s Speech: Two meaningful things are going on with this speech.
First, it proves once and for all that Sam Wilson is Captain America. He doesn't just fight for his country. He also believes the government that runs it should take accountability for any missteps before dealing with something worse than a person who took the term "rebellious teenager" into an extreme.
Second, it is so satisfying seeing Captain America tell government officials off about unjust treatment. Even if it does diddly-squat about anything in the real world, it's still a big moment that's effective because of the bulls**t that happens every day. It's far from an actual win, but it still feels good (I hope). And that still counts for something, right?
“We’ll need a U.S. Agent”: Credit to Louis-Dreyfus for saying a stupid cornball of a name and making it sound...not that.
WHAT I DISLIKE
Still running that Marvel Studios logo in every episode: It's still a nitpick, but its still annoying. It's alright if you want to use the full fanfare for the first episode, but at least shorten it for the rest of the season. Please? For the love of all that is holy?
The CGI: The Falcon and the Winter Soldier has some pretty...not great CGI. It's not as awful as the CG in the DC shows on the CW, but it is way too easy to tell what looks real and what doesn't. Failing to make CGI convincing has been a problem in the MCU for a while, as most of the time, characters barely look like they really exist in the scene. To me, I compare it to when Red vs. Blue switches between actual animation and Machinima. The CG models stick out like a sore thumb to the in-game models, but at least it looks cool. Because while I don't believe that I'm seeing an actual man with bird wings flying through a canyon while chasing helicopters...it still looks cool. Still, not many people would be as forgiving as I am to this type of thing, so it's onto the dislikes it goes.
The direction of the action: Now I want to clarify that I have no problems with the action itself. Some fight scenes are pretty cool while also added with some exciting set-pieces that kept me engaged the whole way through. It's just the direction of the action that I have issues with. The camera is always shaky with so many cuts that it's hard to follow half the time. It's an understandable technique to hide the stunt double's faces or to make it look like it really is the actual actor who's doing the fighting. The issue is that once you know a show like Daredevil exists, with its plethora of well-directed action, the cracks in the armor become much more noticeable for a series like The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
Karli Morgenthau: Karli...frustrates me. Because on the one hand, Erin Kellyman does an impeccable job at portraying the heartbreak, frustrations, and determination that Karli has when fighting for her cause. On the other hand, Karli's cause is so layered with hypocrisy that it's hard to understand her position. She wants to prove how the world was better during the Blip, saying that everyone was happier then. So why do things like blow people up and kill “Captain America?” I get the latter. The guy's a d**k. But to prove to people how better things were, is death and destruction really the best choice to get that point across? I get the mentality of how people respond better to a harmful fist rather than a tranquil hand, but really, has that mentality ever worked out either?
However, you could argue that her hypocrisy is fueled by the super-soldier serum, with the "good becomes great and bad becomes worse" theory that John all but confirms. Although, unlike John, we never got to see Karli pre-serum, so we don't know how much it really had affected her. With John, it's easy as many scenes indicate how close he was to snapping and murdering someone who disrespects him. We don't get that for Karli and are left to assume she was already crazy about thinking how intense violence can show the world how great things were during the Blip.
Then again, that could be the plan. Show how a person with the best intentions is ultimately wrong, given the lengths they go through to accomplish them. It worked for Thanos, so it should work here. And it would have...if not for Sam saying that Karli has a point. Because for the main hero to say that the villain is correct, you have to show them doing more good than bad. I understand the mentality Karli, and the Flag Smashers, have. But by doing nothing but committing crimes and violence, any point they have is discredited. Take note of the fact that nobody but nutcases on the internet says that Thanos has a point. Because he doesn't. He's a maniacal supervillain who does something so intense that nobody should be on his side. It's similar with Karli, but because we're apparently supposed to agree with her, she doesn't work as well.
...DO YOU SEE WHY SHE'S FRUSTRATING?! Because while I can see how she can be an incredible character, there are so many holes in how she works that I fail to appreciate any of it. And seeing how she's the main antagonist, a character who takes up a good chunk of the screen time, it's not a good thing that she tends to flounder more times than she should. I want to like Karli, but given everything that's wrong with her, I just can't.
Rewriting Sharon as the Power Broker: This is an intriguing idea met with a mixed execution. You see, I like the idea of a character who was once an ally becoming a villain, yet the heroes have no clue about it whatsoever. It creates solid dramatic irony, but only if done well. With Sharon, it's not really done well. It genuinely feels like her character was changed radically to give her this personality. A fun personality, I'll add, but one that comes across as really jarring when looking back at her previous appearance. Don't get me wrong, a character's current personality feeling so radically different from their previous one can work a treat, but only when we see them go through point A to point B. We're told about the s**t that went down with Sharon, but unlike understanding the mentality of the Flag Smashers, her personality change would have been more effective if we saw it. So while I like the idea of Sharon becoming another big bad in the future, I would have liked it more if we saw her decline into possible villainy.
------------
By using my usual scoring system for MCU shows and movies, I'd give this season of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier a solid 8/10. There are problems. Quite a lot of problems. Hell, even the stuff I like comes with a fair share of issues. It's just a matter of asking yourself, "Do I like some parts more than I dislike them?" For me, I find myself enjoying much more than I didn't. It's not perfect by any means, but while it definitely falters at times, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is a series that soars to great heights. You might not be in love with it, but you’ll have a helluva good time regardless.
Now if you don't excuse me, it's time I swap from one superhero series to another as I share my more in-depth thoughts on--

Sebastian Stan jumped at the chance to try his hand at improvising for the duration of Drake Doremus’ latest relationship drama, Endings, Beginnings. Starring opposite Shailene Woodley and Jamie Dornan, Stan plays an Angeleno named Frank, whose erratic behavior complicates a budding relationship between Daphne (Woodley) and his friend Jack (Dornan). Despite being intimidated by the exercise of improvisation, Stan knew it was important for him to see what he was capable of without the comfort and safety of a script.
“I’ve always felt protected by scripts, lines and scenes. I feel like I’m one of those people who’s opened up much more by scripts. I’m not as witty on my own,” Stan tells The Hollywood Reporter. “This was one of those different experiences, and I would certainly do it again. I’d be curious to see if I could ever use parts of [improvisation] in a bigger movie… So, maybe this was a really training experience for that.”
Until the coronavirus pandemic shut down the entirety of Hollywood, Stan was just a few weeks away from wrapping Marvel Studios’ The Falcon and the Winter Soldier — the MCU’s first foray into scripted television for Disney+. Since many fans have wondered whether the show would maintain the look and feel of its theatrical counterparts, Stan is now shedding some light on how cinematic the streaming show is.
“It felt like both. In a lot of ways, it felt like a movie,” Stan recalls. “What I loved about it was that, tonally, it was very much in the same world that Captain America: The Winter Soldier was, which was one of my favorite experiences that I’ve ever had, period. So, in a sense, it was grounded and very much in the world as we know it. But, it’s also really jam-packed with a lot of massive, massive action scenes mixed with deep focus on character. These characters are getting so much more mileage for all of us to explore them. We can put them in situations that we’ve never been able to put them in before because you now have six hours as opposed to two.”
Now a year removed from the release of Avengers: Endgame, the highest grossing film of all time, questions are still being asked about Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and Bucky Barnes’ concluding moments. While many fans agree with Rogers’ choice to pass his iconic shield on to Sam Wilson, there’s also a contingent of fans who wanted to see Bucky take on the mantle of Captain America from his best friend. To Stan, Steve was giving Bucky the same gift he gave himself: a life.
“Steve is saying to Bucky, ‘You’re going to go and do that, too. I’m not going to put this thing on you. We’re both going to live our lives — the lives that were actually taken from us back in the ‘40s when we enlisted,’” Stan explains. “So, that’s where I felt they were at the end of the movie. I don’t think there’s a desire or any conflicted thoughts about taking on that mantle. Sam, to me, was always the clear man to take on that mantle for numerous reasons, which also comes with so much more baggage that’s going to be explored in the show. I guess you’ll have to tune into Disney+ to find out why. (Laughs.) At the end of Endgame, for either Steve or Bucky, it’s really not about the shield.”
In a recent conversation with THR, Stan elaborates on the process of improvising an entire movie, the latest with Disney+’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and his interpretation of Steve and Bucky’s last moments in Avengers: Endgame.
How’s everything with you in New York?
It’s alright considering what people are going through out there. I’m pretty lucky. I haven’t been home in a long time so it’s been good to be home. You always feel weird when somebody says you can’t do something; It’s difficult to grasp that quickly. But, in truth, if I wasn’t working and I had time at home, I would probably be doing what I’m doing now. I’m writing, watching a lot of movies and just taking advantage of this time to chill out and get back to being present, something that is more and more difficult in our lives. I’m finding that my motivation is all over the place. Once I get to about 3 o’clock, I’m done for the day because it’s hard for me to get my focus back. So, I try to do all the important bits in the morning. Once in a while, I’ll go out for a run in the very early morning because I know nobody is around here in New York, and I was able to grab a couple of really cool stills of Times Square empty. It’s just weird, but anything to make a day go by. (Laughs.) This is where we’re at.
So, as I said to Jamie, I felt like I was invading the characters’ privacy while watching Endings, Beginnings. Did you feel that level of intimacy as a performer?
Yeah, man, it was extremely intimate right from the beginning. I was familiar with Drake’s work so I kinda had an idea going into it, but I didn’t really know what the process was going to be like. It really just started with this one-on-one meeting that Drake and I had really early on; we ended up talking for three hours about everything, basically. I don’t think either of us are small-talk guys anymore, so that felt very natural. I loved how honest he was about life experience, relationships and the curiosity of it all. So, we really hit it off. When I met him, I think I was trying to sway him to think of me as Jack, Jamie’s character. Personally, I felt a little closer to that character, but when we made the movie, Drake made me believe I was wrong. (Laughs.) We had an outline of what the movie was trying for, but the specificity of the performances, the relationship dynamics and the chemistry really made it feel like we were discovering it in the present moment on the day. There wasn’t a lot of rehearsal. Shailene came in late in the movie, and we probably had about two weeks where we were kind of rehearsing and just getting to know each other a little bit. The rest was a day-to-day, on-set trial and error in order to see what would light people up.
Since you had just come off a string of massive Marvel movies, was it nice to get back to basics with a film like this, so to speak?
Well, yeah, it’s just different. Particularly in the last two years for me, I’ve been so much more aware of directors like never before. I’ve desperately wanted to work with very specific directors — Drake being one of them. Then, when you go on that set with a specific director you’ve wanted to work with, they have a very specific vision, and I just immediately know that I’m going into somebody’s very specific vision. On the bigger movies, for example, I had a relationship with the Russos over three movies, and I knew the way they were working. Every time, I sort of felt like we were picking it back up again, but just in terms of format, structure and overall scope, I knew they were making a very different movie each time. On these little movies, sometimes, the director can take these very specific points of views, and you’re just in the hands of that. That’s what makes the experience different because it’s that director’s vision, and it’s very oriented to that particular person. That’s how I felt with Drake, and that’s how I imagine other specific directors are. I recently worked with Antonio Campos [on The Devil All the Time], who’s another director whose movies I love, and I’ve always wanted to work with him. Again, he has a very specific approach, vision and how he wants the thing to look and feel. You kind of just surrender to that.
When your character, Frank, first meets Shailene’s character, Daphne, at the New Year’s Eve party, they jokingly put distance between one another. Since many of us are now watching entertainment through our present-day lens, have you realized how ahead of the curve you were in this case?
(Laughs.) I didn’t even think about that; you’re right. It’s interesting to think because we don’t know, really, what the ramifications of this social distancing will be. We may still feel the effects of it well into the next couple years. It’s going to be a while before we get life back to “normal,” but will it ever really go back to normal? That’s the stuff that remains to be seen. I can definitely see a world where people are much more conscious about personal space, perhaps. I don’t know. Shailene and I were talking in another interview the other day, and I was like, “Listen, I know you’re a hugger — and so am I — but do you think people are going to want to be hugged by us after this?” I don’t know.
At least we can now opt not to shake hands without offending anyone.
Well, apparently, no one liked that. I was not aware that that was not a fun thing to do. Yeah, that might be gone at this point.
I got a kick out of Frank’s The Pianist reference. Did you name a different movie for each improvised take?
(Laughs.) No, that was the only time I referenced a movie. Every time it was different. One of the things that I learned with Drake really early on was to never try and do something that worked, again. That reference worked; I didn’t know he was gonna use it. Doing it again — even remotely getting close to it — goes against his way of working. You’re just recreating a moment, and he wants everything to be very fresh and in the moment. I have a friend who always picks on me for watching heavy, intense, dramatic movies by myself at home on the weekends. He just makes fun of me all the time. So, the reference came from that. I love all movies, but I just love watching the heavier dramatic movies. (Laughs.) So, it came from remembering that in the moment and just saying it. It was odd enough, but it made it.
I asked Jamie this question, but I’d like to get your take as well. How do you ensure that you’re improvising as the character and not as Sebastian?
That’s the problem. I don’t know. Even though we’re improvising as honestly as possible, we’re still kind of doing it with a direction from the outline. I think that is what gives it an element that’s still affected rather than me just going up there and saying how I feel. And then, in the editing room, which is what makes Drake brilliant at this, he finds the moments; the way he cuts is just fascinating to me. I remember saying to him, “Drake, no take is the same. I don’t know how you’re going to cut this. It’s impossible.” And yet, he made it work. He found the conversation, and he found the moments. He’s got a very specific way of cutting that I love which is the reactions and so on. He really filtered those performances in the editing room as well. There was a lot of back-and-forth dialogue between me and Shailene that never made it, but again, it’s about him picking what he feels is right for who each character is.
Did you have any history with improvisation before this experience?
No, not at all.
Were you intimidated by it?
I definitely was. Absolutely, I was. I didn’t have an audition for the movie, but I had that three-hour session with Drake where we talked about different things and topics. I think he was just curious to see how honest our conversation could go, and I just wasn’t afraid of that. It was very scary at the beginning. It’s that question you asked, where you go, “Well, this isn't really who I am. I don’t do these things that this character does.” I’ve always felt protected by scripts, lines and scenes. I feel like I’m one of those people who’s opened up much more by scripts. I’m not as witty on my own. This was one of those different experiences, and I would certainly do it again. I’d be curious to see if I could ever use parts of it in a bigger movie. Believe it or not, on those bigger projects, you do use improv. You do the scenes a couple times. You get it as it’s written on paper, and then you say, “Let’s just do this one more time and try it out this way. Let’s just see what happens and then we have it.” Sometimes, that ends up in the movie because it’s weirdly a sort of wildcard. So, maybe this was a really training experience for that.
Shifting gears to some obligatory Marvel questions… Did you shoot The Falcon and the Winter Soldier like a TV show or movie?
It felt like both. In a lot of ways, it felt like a movie. Again, we’re not finished; we still have some stuff to do. What I loved about it was that, tonally, it was very much in the same world that Captain America: The Winter Soldier was, which was one of my favorite experiences that I’ve ever had, period. So, in a sense, it was grounded and very much in the world as we know it. But, it’s also really jam-packed with a lot of massive, massive action scenes mixed with deep focus on character. That’s what’s really exciting about this. We’re getting to keep it in the world of the movies, so it’s recognizable that way, but at the same time, these characters are getting so much more mileage for all of us to explore them. We can put them in situations that we’ve never been able to put them in before because you now have six hours as opposed to two. It’s always a discovery.
Prior to the shutdown, is it true that you were only a week away from wrapping?
No, we were probably at least two or three, but don’t quote me on that.
At the end of Avengers: Endgame, between the dialogue and your performance, it seemed pretty cut and dried that Bucky knew about Steve’s plan to remain in the past with Peggy (Hayley Atwell). Were you surprised that some people didn’t entirely pick up on that?
I don’t know if I was surprised. The Internet completely misconstrued something else and made it entirely into something that it wasn’t, but later, I sort of became aware that people really felt like we needed to have more between the two of them or something. But, it hadn’t occurred to me because at the same time, that scene was saying so much with subtext. That being said, how do you put it all together in a three-hour movie? To merge all those different stories together, you could’ve had another movie of everybody saying goodbye to each other. So, I love how much people care about those two characters and that they wanted more from them, but I just took it as “This is as much screen time as we’ve got left before the movie ends.” It was already such a long movie. And then, it’s just the knowledge that these guys have always known each other’s moves, so to speak. They knew each other so well that they could say, “Okay, I know what he’s going to do, what decisions he’s going to make and I support that.” Yeah, it’s just what it was. That’s what was on the page, and that’s what we shot.
Bucky hugged Steve and said he was gonna miss him. To me, it’s crystal clear that you played it as knowing Steve’s intent.
Oh, a thousand percent, yeah. I played it as goodbye. What I was playing was, “Okay, I know he’s going, and he’s not going to come back. I can’t talk about it, because if I do, then they’re going to try and stop him from doing what he wants to do. So, I’ve gotta support that.” That’s what I was playing in the scene. Suddenly, when he shows back up again, I’m playing it like, “Oh! Well, he didn’t tell me he was gonna do that. I knew he was gonna leave, and even though I knew what he was going to do with the shield, I didn't know he was gonna pop up over there now and be older.” So, I was playing that. Look, I love a good scene with dialogue, but sometimes, I find it really interesting when there’s not a lot said. And funnily enough, it’s sort of been the trademark of Bucky. Then, you’re watching behavior, you’re watching the eyes and you’re wondering what they’re thinking. You’re more involved and tuned in. So, it’s always fun for me to try to do as much as I can without dialogue. It’s exciting as an actor because then I wonder what people are getting out of it. In that aspect, it’s fun.
Some people still lament the fact that Steve didn’t give Bucky the shield in order to take on the mantle of Captain America. Bucky may have been brainwashed, but Captain America is such a symbolic position that you can’t just write off fifty years of transgressions by The Winter Soldier. I also have a hard time imagining that Bucky would even want that role. Since you know Bucky best, what’s your impression of Steve’s choice?
The MCU — as I saw it from my humble perspective — is a bit different in that regard to the comics. Where we arrived with him at the end felt more like he was in a place with a desire for some sort of release: to start over, start life again in a way, find out who he is again on his own and leave all this behind. Yes, it all happened, but at some point, you gotta own your mistakes, what happened and try to start over. That’s where I felt like the character was at the end of Avengers: Endgame. It’s also what he wanted for Steve. Like anybody that ends up traumatized by a war experience, he was affected by it for the rest of his life. So, what felt like a desire there was for a restart — for him and for Steve in a way. It didn’t necessarily feel like the shield was gonna be that. Steve going back in time and saying, “I’m gonna take something for me now. I’ve been here for all these guys, and I’ve done the best I could. I’m just a man, and I’m going to go back and try to live my life.” I feel that is something that Bucky would want for his best friend, and at the same time, Steve is saying to Bucky, “You’re going to go and do that, too. I’m not going to put this thing on you. We’re both going to live our lives — the lives that were actually taken from us back in the ‘40s when we enlisted.” So, that’s where I felt they were at the end of the movie. (Laughs.) At the end of Endgame, for either Steve or Bucky, it’s really not about the shield.
I really loved Destroyer, and I thought you were great in it. It continues to blow my mind that Karyn Kusama isn’t able to do whatever she wants. Granted, she just got Universal’s Dracula…
I already emailed her about that. I said, “You know I’m from Romania, right?” and she goes, “Yes, yes, it’s very early — and there’s a pandemic. Hopefully, we’ll see you in four years.” (Laughs.)
What comes to mind when you reflect on that experience and working with Karyn?
Thank you for mentioning that movie. I love that movie, I love her and I had such a great time on it. I would love to keep finding projects with her — projects that kind of push you in a different direction. Again, this goes back to your earlier questions about these smaller movies, and I was referencing the vision of a director, how important that is and sometimes surrendering to that. That’s what that movie was for me. Karyn saw this character and movie in a certain way, and it was my job to learn that world, the tone and fit into it. I loved her as a director because she was so specific with me from the get-go. She also really allowed me to discover it on my own. We talked about the tattoos, the look, his history… It was very collaborative before we started, and then, when we started, it was actually very specific. She was one of those directors that made me feel so safe and confident in my choices, simply by the way she communicated with me. I think that came from her absolute confidence in what she wanted and what she saw. I really wish more people had seen that movie. Maybe they have by now; I don’t know. And obviously — Nicole Kidman. It was one of those dreams to work opposite her. It was a good package.

MAJOR SPOILERS WARNING FOR FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER FOR MY FRIENDS WHO FOLLOW ME
After a day of reading tumblr on John killing a litterl terrorist and people Comparing him to hydra litterl nazis, Hayworth whi was trying to kill kids and Obadiah who was just evil to be evil and saying hes worst out of all them when it was pretty obvious simeones gonna snap if they been treated shit by everyone they met just for having cap sheild, I mean Johm basically got harshly treated by bucky and Sam after mant attempts to work with them, but when he becomes a ass back to them yall flip? So far Falcon and the Winter soldier haven't really established any bad guy, just people who've been pushed to the edge like walker and karli but jeez man killed a terrorist after seeing his best friend the one dude who didn't treat him like shit for having the sheild or didn't put a insane amount of pressure on him for having to fills caps shoes and just told him to the best he could be, die right infront of him and yall are expecting him to keep his cool like imagine your best friend getting killed by a terrorist group accident or no accident and you find one of them and their best excuse is "It wasn't me" like theres no remorse in that sentence just "It wasn't me even tho I support the person who killed him and will always be by her side" I mean this whole world just treats John shit to I'm surprised he hasn't snapped before, I mean he's gotten close to win the guy literaly spat on him (I don't care how much of a ass you think a person is YOU.DO.NOT.SPIT.ON.A.PERSON that's like the most disrespectful thing john just asked where was karli and the dude spat on him THEN john played the "do you know who I am" card after seeing being nice didn't work he went to intimidation but it still didn't work, John losing his cool was definitely not ok but it doesn't make him the worst person on earth that just makes him human, one thing can sum this up perfectly "All it takes is one bad day" For those who don't know this it's a iconic joker line where it means it only takes one bad day for a person to snap Batman had his one bad day and would've snapped if it hadn't been for Alfred, This is would've been John's bad day, he feels absolutely worthless to the point he felt the need he couldn't be a hero without being a super solider and then watched his friend die, its quiet a miracle that he just stopped at blood and didn't yeet the corpse halfway to Germany
I'm not saying John is a saint, I'm not saying hes a ass I'm just saying cut the man some slack, look at what you would do from his perspective after being treated shit by everyone while simultaneously being pressured by everyone
Something that really annoys me is the fact yall keep defending bucky for just being a ass, not just to walker but litterly everyone In the show that tried to help him, not to mention betraying the Dora miljage by releasing the guy who killed the king and acting like they weren't ment to do something when he refused to release zeno to them even after giving him a deadline
Now I've seen alot of people say "well the dora miljage betrayed bucky 1st by not trusting him" and I say to yall THIS IS LITERALLY PROVES THEY COULDN'T TRUST HIM and even then that's most likely not the case cuz if they were really afraid he snapped back into the winter soldier they would use a remote not get next to the literal spawn of black air force energy, in all honesty it was most likely a medical thing, cuz if bucky ever gets knocked out with his arm damaged they would have to remove it some how. Not saying we should hate bucky like how yall currently hate john like I said this show hasn't really established any villan characters Just people who've been pushed to their limits trying to do the right thing but going at it in the wrong way
Also one thing I'd like to address, Steve has also killed, most of yall try to push it off by saying "oh but its war so its justified" and I say killing a terrorist isn't justified to you? Idk if it's just my DC fan side but killing a terrorist is justified to me (and while the next thing I'm say isn't 100% confirmed but sorta likely so only take this with a grain of salt) Also Steve would've killed Tony with that sheild but thankfully he came to his senses, if tony had actually killed bucky rather then just blow off his arm Steven most likely would've killed that man with only slight hesitation
TL:DR: Give John some Slack, No ones currently a villan, Hold bucky accountable aswell, And steve most likely would've killed with the sheild aswell
If you actually read all of this your amazing, If you just read the TLDR i would suggest just reading the john walker part
Overall have a good day!

Falcon and Winter Soldier Episode 1- My Thoughts
Under the cut due to potential spoilers:
Sam’s plotline:
So, despite Steve’s obvious endorsement of him as his successor, Sam is feeling unworthy to take up the mantle of the new Captain America. So he donates the shield to the Smithsonian, where it is placed on exhibit. But he’s still apparently doing work for the military/air force as Falcon in stopping terrorist hijackings and the like (which leads to a pretty amazing areal action sequence.) I’m guessing the stupid Accords were put through the shredder after the events of Infinity War/Endgame? At least I hope so, because that was a mess and a half. Also, he’s now got a friend and ally, Joaquin, who is working to stop some other terrorist group called the Flag Smashers that apparently thought Thanos had the right idea, and that things were better during the five years where all those people were dusted. But Joaquin’s attempt at putting a stop to this group’s attempt at a bank heist(?) ends pretty badly, as the guy who I guess orchestrated the bank heist is apparently super strong and effortlessly kicked Joaquin’s butt. My first thought was that this guy was one of the other Winter Soldiers, as we know Bucky wasn’t the only person Hydra turned into a brainwashed pawn. But I then read something abut how they were all essentially unceremoniously killed off. If that’s true, I don’t remember that particular detail, but it’s been a while since I watched the movies. So I’m hoping they eventually explain who this tough guy is. Did the Flag Smashers manage to get their hands on their own version of the super serum, or is there another explanation? Looking forward to seeing how this will develop, as I imagine the Flag Smashers will be the main Big Bad in this series.
Meanwhile, Sam’s got some normal civilian drama to deal with, as we meet his sister and two nephews. (Can’t remember if it was stated, but was Sarah Sam’s younger sister? If so, that must be awkward since Sarah might be older than Sam now. It’s heavily implied she and the two nephews remained while Sam was among those lost in the Snap. They have a family-inherited fishing business that Sarah has been trying to keep afloat (no pun intended), and Sam was supposed to be assisting with it, but he’s been gone for the past five years (through no fault of his own). Now, the family fishing business is having some financial issues, and they could even lose the house if they can’t make ends meet. Sam has an idea on how to save the business and the house by starting up a boat charter business on the side. But they have to get a loan from the bank in order to make it happen. And even though the banker is clearly a fan of Sam (or rather his Falcon identity), he can’t give them the loan they need, because.... some explanation involving how Sam didn’t have any form of income for the past five years. Which, again, wasn’t his fault because he literally didn’t exist during those five years. Not like that matters to the bank, though, as there were a lot of people who were wiped out of existence and then came back, so the banks have their hands full with those cases. Here, we get some social commentary on how difficult it is for Black-owned businesses to get an advantage. Rather bold of the MCU series to go there. I’m impressed. There’s also even more social commentary on how military veterans can get the shaft. Because that’s exactly what Sam is. He served in the air force for a time. And he still has some government contracts and whatnot. Plus, he was one of the Avengers and literally helped save the world on more than one occasion. But despite all that, the government doesn’t properly compensate him financially. Meaning he gets all these people thanking him for being a hero, and even posing with him for selfies. But that’s pretty much all the thanks he gets. When he needs help getting back to everyday civilian stuff, he’s more or less on his own. Again, rather bold of the MCU to address that.
And of course, we get the final scene, where it’s revealed that the American government has decided to select a new Captain America. Of course, you get the feeling that they just selected him to be a mascot for the public to rally around rather than an actual hero (which is kinda what they were using Steve for in the beginning.) Even so, I do agree with people who see this as rather scummy. Because when Sam turned over the Shield to the Smithsonian, they told him that he was doing the right thing. And now they just take the Shield and hand it over to some random White guy? Even if you ignore the whole racial aspect, it still is practically spitting on Steve’s legacy, considering Sam was his chosen successor, not this guy. Of course, this new guy is apparently John Walker, who did appear in the comics as someone who briefly held the mantle of Captain America. But it’s too soon to tell how closely the MCU John Walker will resemble his comic book counterpart. That being said, I fully expect the series to lead up to Sam realizing he does deserve to be the next Captain America and take back the title.
Bucky’s Plotline:
Interestingly, even though Bucky and Sam share equal billing with this show, Bucky’s plotline was more of a side note in this first episode. Not that it wasn’t important to his characterization, of course. Since the events of Endgame, he’s received a full pardon from the government for the things he’d done as Hydra’s brainwashed assassin and is now trying to adjust to living the life of an ordinary man. He’s even going to therapy! Which is a really good thing, as goodness knows he needs it. But I don’t much care for his therapist. She seems like a pretty crappy therapist, to be honest. Personally, I think Bucky should find a different one, but I think it was mentioned this therapy was mandated as part of his government-issued pardon. So maybe he doesn't get a say in who his therapist is. Anyway, Bucky is still haunted by the things he was forced to do as the Winter Soldier. And he’s trying to make amends for the things he did during that time. Because even though none of that was his fault, he still remembers everything and feels guilty because of it. In this episode, we see him forging a friendship with this old man. At first, I was slightly confused on who this old man was. I briefly wondered if this was supposed to be one of the other Howling Commandos who Steve and Bucky fought alongside in WW2. But as the episode progresses, it’s revealed that the old man was the father of a young man Bucky killed as the Winter Soldier. And Bucky has been trying to figure out how he can make amends to the father, who is clearly haunted by the loss of his son. Man, that is really dark. Not to mention messed up. How does one make up for something like this? Especially since the dead son wasn’t even the Hydra-appointed target. He had simply been in the wrong place at the wrong time. (And yes, the fact that the dead son and grieving father are Asian makes it slightly more uncomfortable due to the recent events down in Georgia. Though I don’t think we can blame the show creators for that. They could hardly go back and refilm everything with different actors in those roles. Not without pushing the show back who knows how long.) Anyway, I’m curious to see how Bucky continues on from here, and if he can find the peace of mind he deserves. Oh, also, he does go on this impromptu date with a woman who works at a sushi restaurant. That was rather cute, but also a bit awkward since Bucky is still a bit closed off, for understandable reasons. And this woman clearly doesn’t know who he is and how much he went through. She doesn’t even know about his metal arm. Still, props to Bucky for trying to adjust and move forward. (And I literally laughed out loud when he tried to stop the beckoning cat statue from moving). On a side note, the flashback/nightmare he experiences about the night he killed the old man’s son was both chilling and well done. Especially with the inclusion of the Winter Soldier theme that is playing throughout the scene. The fact that you also can hear it when Bucky is listening to the old man talking about his son was a really great touch. Anyway, I just really want to see Bucky get the hug he deserves.

“Anthony, I wanna kick off with a big one. You’re Sam Wilson, AKA The Falcon - how the heck did that happen?”
Anthony: “Erm, well, I, I got lucky. I got very lucky. I - I’ve always wanted to be a part of the MCU since the first Iron Man. And, you know, when they uh, some - saw some of my other stuff, they called me to LA and I had dinner with the Russo brothers and it kind of worked out. I was like: ‘All of you, just don’t be an asshole!’”
“That was their one note, their first note.”
Anthony: “That was it - don’t be an asshole.”
“What do you like most about your character?”
Anthony: “Uh, the fact that he’s a normal guy. You know, if you think about it, he was just a guy out for a jog, and Captain America was like: ‘You’re a good guy - I want you to be an Avenger.’ What?! Like, you know it’s ,it’s - that’s something no-one expects, That was a hell of a jog. Like, what happened if he never went on that jog? He would never have met Black Widow, who is the love of his life. He would never have got to go on adventures with Captain America, who is is best friend. And now he would never be dealing with all this craziness with Bucky. who is his arch nemesis. (interviewer laughs) All from one jog.”
“One jog. And that line: “on your left” - it must be a nightmare for you. You can never be to the right of anyone ever again.”
Anthony: (laughs once) “Very true, and its interesting because you can always tell when somebody’s about to say it. And, you know, it’s the build up, and the build up is like: ‘No, don’t say it. Should I say it? Can I say it? What would he say if I say it? Okay, ’on your left! Ha-ha-ha.’ (interviewer laughs) And it’s never a girl - it’s never a girl. It’s always some 40-year-old dude who, you know, it’s always some 40-year-old dude.”
“Yeah. I get it.”
Anthony: “If it was a pretty girl and she’s like ‘On your left’, you’re like ‘Yes you are.’”
“Good move, I’m glad it works. (Anthony laughs) Let me say this to you - would you say you might have the most uncomfortable costume in the MCU, when you’re wired up, I mean?”
Anthony: “I - I think I have the costume with the most pieces. I have about, - hoo -, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight - I have like, twelve pieces to my costume. And it just goes on layer after layer after layer and it, it can be, um, a bit much but actually, it’s pretty uh, comfortable. I mean the backpack is the only off thing - that’s maybe like 15 pounds, uh, the whole piece; the harness that it goes on. But nah, I’m - I’m pretty comfortable with mine. It’s just when I’m doing stunts I usually rip through the crotch of my pants.”
“There’s this great bit in the blooper reel where you crash into the ground right in front of Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man.”
Anthony: “Right.”
“Ah, great days. (Anthony laughs) What would you say are your favourite Falcon moments on the big screen so far - and I do have suggests if you’d like them?”
Anthony: “One of my favourite moments that made me go ‘Holy shit!’ was in um, I wanna say it was in Winter Soldier. When the Harriers are coming up, and I go under the Harrier and the, the missiles are following me and I do a barrel tuck and they hit the Harrier and I come back out. For me, that was the first moment I was like: ‘This is amazing!’ Right? And my second one, my all-time, my all-time, is this first sequence in episode one. The first ten minutes. That was the second time when I saw it, when I saw myself and I went: ‘Holy shit!’ (interviewer laughs quietly) So those two are probably my top moments.”
“For me, I can’t resist the moment where you say in Civil War: ‘So, you like cats?’ (Anthony laughs) And with Bucky himself: ‘Can you move your seat up?’ (Anthony laughs) Love it. Even the: ‘Everybody’s got a gimmick now’ - you’ve got all these lovely little lines.”
Anthony: “Right.”
“Good-looking guy in the sunglasses, And what I love seeing, the behind-the-scenes footage for this new show, it’s that it’s called ‘Bromance’ on the clapper board. (Anthony laughs once) And I know you’ve been asked a million times about your friendship with Sebastian, so here’s my tack. How would you describe him in three words?”
Anthony: “Uh - boring. Introverted. Er - I feel like shy is the same thing so I won’t say shy. I’ll say boring, introverted and um, a great sense of humour.”
“Love it. I’ll accept it.”
Anthony: “But he’s literally the most boring person I’ve ever met in my life.” (interviewer laughs quietly)
“All right, between the two of you, who breaks, who corpses and laughs most on set between the two of you?”
Anthony: “Oh - I would say it’s a 50/50 split. Like, when we’re on set, and that’s why I say he, he has a great sense of humour - when we’re on set, he always does something in some kind of way to just, you know, crack me up. It’s - it’s really funny. You know him with like - there was one day when he was putting the arm on, and you know, the process of putting that arm on is quite disgusting. So, (laughs aloud, interviewer laughs silently) he’s putting the arm on the, the - so they use KY Jelly to get the arm on, right? -”
“Yeah, the lube.”
Anthony: “ - So he has to dip his arm in the KY Jelly and slide it into this arm, and he puts - and he does this (slight moving motion) and a glob of KY Jelly just goes (motions glob hitting his face, then laughs, as does the interviewer). Never fails. Never fails.”
“Never not funny. I - I would imagine the whole staring contest bit would be enough to set me off. Like, I wouldn’t be able to keep a straight face.”
Anthony: “Yeah, that was good editing because that whole sequence - we literally just went at each other for about ten minutes (laughs) and they just cut it down to what it is.”
“Love it. And I’d like to thank you on behalf of all Marvel fans for holding up and basically powering all of the gag reels for, what, close to ten years now. (Anthony laughs) Are there any ‘Cut the cheque’s’ in the blooper reel for this show?”
Anthony: “You know, I don’t know. I don’t even know. We can do a whole episode that’s just bloopers. Like, we had a lot of fun on this show, dude. There - between you know Sebastian, Daniel Bruhl - ”
“Yeah.”
Anthony: “ - Even like, there was some stuff, you know, Emily VanCamp did - it was just like - it was just co - comic gold, like just comedic gold. And none of it made - because, because we’re not doing a comedy. Like, if we were doing Guardians of the Galaxy, all that shit would be in the movie. But, I - I wish they’d take all of this stuff and cut like a one-hour comedic version of this show. It, it would be - it would break the internet.”
“Oh God, I now really, really want that. (Anthony laughs) What would you say are the weirdest, most surreal things you’ve done promoting a Marvel movie or this TV show? Because I’d like to suggest reading out thirst tweets, an escape room and mean tweets. I mean, I don’t know whether Catchphrase with J.Lo was part of that? (Anthony laughs) There must’ve been moments where you’re going: ‘Is this really happening?’“
Anthony: “I would say the, the weirdest thing, um, when we went to um, China, for, uh, Civil War, we - there are only like seven chefs in the world that can cook, uh, uh, pufferfish because of poison- ”
“Of course.”
Anthony: “So, we go to this restaurant and the chef’s like, uh, you know: ‘As, as a, as a sign of gratitude, I made you guys some pufferfish.’ And we’re like ‘Oh wow, isn’t that danger, like - that’s dangerous’, and he’s like ‘No, no. There’s only seven people in the world who can cook it and I’m one of the seven.’ So we’re like: ‘Okay.’ So we all go to eat this pufferfish and our mouth is like tingling and numb. He’s like: ‘Oh well, you know, the art is to leave a little bit of poison in so you can taste it.’”
“Great.”
Anthony: “I’m like: ‘Not a good idea, homeboy. Not a good idea.’ But Singapore, we um, we uh, got to stand - I think it was the Opera House - and they like, set the whole city on fire with fireworks. It was insane. It was literally - the entire city was on fire.”
“Amazing. God, those were the days. (Anthony laughs once) Can I ask you, would your press - you know, I know you’ve done pranks over the years, but has Nishka, your wife’s friend made an appearance?”
Anthony: (laughs) “She has not.”
“I - I love her. (Anthony laughs) I’ve got to tell you I love her. What mementos have you taken home over the course of the films and this TV show? Do you still have that poster of yourself as the Falcon up in your house?”
Anthony: (laughs) No, but I do, um, there’s - there’s a few things. Once you get into the series, you’ll see, uh, from my house, um, I’ve, I’ve - there’s a record record player. Jacked that. I’ve been trying to get - they’re fighting me on it - I’ve been trying to get my wings, ‘cos I’m like: ‘The wings have changed every movie, so you should give me the old wings.’”
“The little pigeon ones? The little quail ones?”
Anthony: “That’s what I’m saying - the little three-foot ones like that. That’s the ones I want. So, I’m working on that, uh, but our prop team, uh, my man Russell and uh, Travis, they are - the angriest little dudes on earth and they watch everything - it’s impossible.”
“Well, what do fans say to you though, typically, when they see you on the street? We’ve already discussed ‘on your left’, but do they just walk up to you and start playing Trouble Man out their phones? Like what, what are they doing?”
Anthony: “The funny thing is most of them walk up to me and think I’m Don Cheadle. (laughs) They literally go: ‘Hey man, I love you as black Iron Man!’ I’m like ‘Er...’ Or they’ll say: ‘Aren’t you the guy in Iron Man?’ I’m like ‘Err...’“
“Not so much.”
Anthony: “Like literally, once a day, someone comes up to me and asks me if I’m Don Cheadle. Which it could be worse.”
“I love those bits in the bloopers where you say - ” (You want Wesley Snipes or Denzel;. ‘Denzel.’ ‘Done. Roll sound.’ blooper plays and both laugh)
Anthony: “Two very different things, man. Two very different things.”
“Two very different things. Okay, here’s another big question. What advice would you give to your younger self, before you got this role, to prepare yourself for a life as the Falcon?”
Anthony: “Er, enjoy it. I think a lot of times I, I missed the opportunity to just step back and enjoy it. Because so many people have so many expectations of you just because they saw you in a movie. Like, you know, it’s - it’s like being a pretty girl at a bar. You know, when one guy offers you a drink, that’s cool, then the second guy, then the third guy, it’s like ‘Yo, I just wanna chill for a minute.’ You know, so a lot of people feel entitled to your time and your energy, you know?”
“I get it. I get it. And you talk about that in the show as well which I kind of love, even in the first episode - there’s that discussion of an ownership of you - ”
Anthony: “Right.”
“ - because you’re an Avenger.”
Anthony: “Right.”
“There’s lots - there’s lots of stuff in this new series which feels really, really true. How does it feel working with Malcolm Spellman about that?”
Anthony: “Um, you know what? Malcolm has a great voice as a writer, and he was 100% in tune with how I felt and, you know, what I wanted this character to, uh, convey. Uh, he was really wonderful, man. I mean, he and Kari, they held no punches. They really went at these characters and this story, and they wanted to shine the light on what it means to find your new normal. What it means to live post-Blip and how that is very similar to how we’re going to be living post-Covid when we’re all vaccinated. So they held no punches and I’m proud to say they both did a great job and Malcolm was really, really great with capturing our voices - Sebastian and mine. Uh, when we would give him notes, they would come right back spot on. And you know, it was - it was really impressive. I’ve never had an experience like that with a writer.”
“Do you guys miss, even just a little bit, Chris Evans being on set - just to get that laugh where - where he punches your shoulder and leans in a bit? (Anthony laughs) I’ve missed that so much.”
Anthony: (laughs) “Of course. Look, Chris is, you know - the three of us we were - are - very good friends and we talk all the time. Chris was always the most fun, the most supportive, the most loving human being when you spend time with him. So of course you know, we - we always want him on set, we always want him with us.”
“And what’s it like knowing that your co-star is the kind of guy that will say on, like, was it Jimmy Kimmel or Fallon? - he describes working with you like ‘riding a psychotic horse into a blazing stable.’ (Anthony laughs) And you’re like ‘Okay, cool. I’ll see you tomorrow at work then.’ (Anthony laughs)
Anthony: (after FWS clip plays and he laughs) “I can see that, I can see that. I told you, look, Sebastian is the most boring person on Earth. I’m - I literally think he sits in his living room and talks to his plant. There’s nothing; I’ve - I’ve sat outside of his room, or in the lobby, or outside the hotel, waiting for him to come out, so I can follow him and stalk him and see where he goes. I, I - I’ve never seen anything like it. He’s a hermit, so of course he would think I’m a psychotic horse; of course.” (interviewer laughs)
“I think what he does is he goes to, like, in that Bucharest scene in Civil War, there’s a big tray of plums, and he just spends the day picking them. He goes ‘This one?’”
Anthony: “Probably. Probably. He’s the only dude, when we were in Prague, he has a 106th birthday party for Bucky. That’s cool - but he, he didn’t invite anybody. So he had - he had a birthday party for himself by himself.”
“A cake, 106 candles, himself?”
Anthony: “Sebastian Stan everyone.” (claps, interviewer follows)
“On that note, Anthony, thank you so much.”
Anthony: “Thank you.”
“Have a great rest of your day. Cheers dude.”
Anthony: “Thank you. Have a good one.”

yesterday i was scouring @historicallyaccuratesteve doing research for my steve/bucky fic (yes, i’m writing stucky fic 6 years after it was a thing, can you fucking believe) and the blog was--the only way i can describe it is a time capsule. in a literal sense because it’s a history blog, sure, but what i’m getting at is the way it picked me up and threw me back into 2014.
see, most of the posts on that blog are old, in the way you’d consider “anaconda” old. the winter solider came out in the spring of 2014, and agent carter in early 2015, and that was when i started to see all this commentary on the newer marvel installments. and looking at that blog, what struck me was that the takes we had back then were so different from the ones we have now about thor being a himbo, and while i love those posts, they don’t hold up a candle to how intelligent, well-researched and eagle-eyed the meta from 2014/15 was, full of innocent joy--we didn’t know agent carter would get cancelled or that they’d do steve this dirty in every movie after tws. it was genuinely a different time; fans trusted marvel to continue doing these characters justice, there was less disillusionment as a fandom participant overall, no matter which one you were in, more freedom to do what you liked without someone constantly policing your takes or what you shipped.
i was only 15 at the time, and it definitely felt like a less callous time to be online. marvel was one of those fandoms that would make my head spin, because i hadn’t watched all the movies, and i wasn’t even a bona fide marvel fan this stuff just started showing up without me asking for it. and every meta i saw about it (no, really, remember when your dash would be FULL of meta? every other post?) was so perceptive, full of enthusiasm and details. the agent carter stuff especially, we were all so THRILLED to see peggy carter kick ass and take names, and we wanted to do right by her. every day i would see posts about being a woman in the 40s and 50s in america.
i’m not sure what happened afterwards--there are so many factors. i still saw well-written metas circulating for age of ultron after it came out, especially focusing on natasha’s terrible treatment in it. but i felt an overall sense of disillusionment from the fandom, and then agent carter got cancelled, and there was disappointment over that--and then it stopped.
maybe it stopped because marvel movies just stopped being that deep. maybe it stopped because i grew tired of marvel and moved onto other fandoms. maybe it stopped because interactions here on tumblr increasingly began being reduced to who could be the most politically correct, be the bigger ally (because it’s absolutely a contest), have the most scathing takes, op is an (insert subset of bigotry here) i cannot believe y’all are reblogging their post, and so on and so forth. there was less illuminating back and forth, more biting, reactive hostility. not that this never existed in 2015, but i felt like the landscape here shifted profoundly after 2016, which is a rant for another day.
or hey, maybe this is a load of crap and i’m overgeneralizing, but going on that blog made me realize how welcoming, joyful, intelligent and stress-free fandom used to be; specifically the marvel fandom. (i’m not implying the fandom got dumber, though the movies sort of did.) i miss people noticing how bucky used to have good trigger discipline as sergeant and how he stopped when he was the winter solider and what that meant; i miss people talking about 40s fashion and how the lady steve sees after waking up from the ice was wearing her hair wrong, her tie wrong, her bra wrong, and that’s how steve knew things weren’t okay. i miss trying to make head or tail of discussions on the physics of thor’s hammer. not that these things are gone entirely... but they were the norm, back then. visiting that blog made me realizing how dear to me those years and memories are.
in any case--yes, i’m writing a stupid steve/bucky fanfic but i’m THIS CLOSE to making bucky fall in love with the entire barbershop quartet. marvel has made a complete cuck of me (and let’s be honest, of anyone sticking around post-endgame) but i watched the falcon and the winter soldier and it gave me all those stupid bucky feelings and i rewatched catws so here i am. surprisingly, the easiest character to write so far has been NATASHA--what a curve ball--and especially her interactions with bucky. bucky is the second easiest. steve and sam are hard to write. really, this is all because i watched catws (my first marvel movie) as a 15 year old and got attached to 4 characters and kept buying tickets, hoping to see them again... but each time, they fell short. ever since endgame and what they did to steve and nat i’ve avoided marvel like the plague but when tfatws came out, well, i couldn’t not watch it, not when it promised a deeper look at two of those 4 characters (and wasn’t that why i was buying all those tickets in the first place?)
#if you made it this far thank you#vaaya moodu#also yes i'm going to watch the black widow movie#god can you imagine if we got it back in 2014#there were literal petitions#then we got agent carter#still no widow#can't believe it took marvel 6 years to catch up to what fans want + completely disrespected her character while getting there#okay i spent too long writing this to NOT pin it#i just have a lot of strong feelings about this okay

My thoughts and opinions on the slew of recent trailers and announcements that no one asked for, but I needed to process all this information. These are just my opinions so don’t hate me.
Marvel:
WandaVision - Not very interested in this and it looks a little too trippy for my taste, but might watch it anyway to see Jimmy Woo and Monica Rambeau (and Billy and Tommy?)
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier - Easily my most anticipated of Marvel’s offerings. I was disappointed that it was delayed but it looks like it will be worth the wait! The trailer was epic. It looks like an action movie. I love Sam and Bucky, and their relationship and banter. Also I can’t wait to see my girl Sharon!
Loki - Not sure what to expect from this one and the trailer did not make things any clearer, but I’m just thrilled that Loki is getting his time to shine away from the Thor franchise.
What If? - Now that I’ve seen the full trailer I am actually quite excited for this! Also the animation looks gorgeous.
Hawkeye - I am not a fan of Jeremy Renner or what they did to Clint’s character in the MCU - hopefully this series will correct some of that. However the dog is adorable, Hailee Steinfeld looks really good as Kate Bishop, and I’m interested to find out what Yelena’s role in the story will be.
Ms. Marvel - From the brief clips we have it looks like a cute, heartwarming, and inspiring story. It has jumped to the top of my list!
She-Hulk - I’ve hated Bruce Banner in everything after The Avengers so I hope his involvement in this show is minimal.
Moon Knight - Not interested at the moment.
Secret Invasion - I was never one of those fans who felt like this story had to be adapted for the MCU and I liked what they did with the Skrulls in Captain Marvel, but I’m 100% for it now that Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn are involved!
Armour Wars - Finally giving Rhodey a leading role after playing pivotal supporting roles in a gazillion movies is long overdue. Sounds like an interesting premise. Will definitely watch!
Ironheart - Not very familiar with the character so I don’t have much of an opinion at the moment. Will probably watch though.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special - For some reason I have the feeling this is just going to be a Star Wars Holiday Special parody/rip-off.
I Am Groot - Will probably be cute.
Black Widow - I’m over it at this point. Was never really into it. Should have come out years before Endgame. Will only be watching for Yelena Belova.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings - Admittedly was not familiar with the character prior to the announcement. I like Michelle Yeoh and Awkwafina though, and I’m interested to see what the movie does with The Mandarin (after the disaster that was Iron Man 3). No real opinion until I see the trailer.
Eternals - Would not be interested in this at all except for the fact that I like Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, and Kit Harrington. The cast is massive and star-studded to the point of feeling bloated.
Untitled Spider-Man 4 - Not sold at all on the multiverse/spiderverse, but the previous MCU Spider-Man films are among my favourites and I thought they both sounded like crap initially. Will definitely reserve judgement until I actually see the movie. As much as I adore Tom Holland’s Peter Parker, my wish for this movie is that we see a move towards more classic Spider-Man comic elements (The Daily Bugle and Peter’s photography, a mere mention of Uncle Ben, Harry and Norman Osborn, etc.)
Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness - Not really interested right now.
Thor: Love and Thunder - Will likely not be watching. An unpopular opinion but Ragnarok was my least favourite MCU movie.
Black Panther II - Right now I am just eagerly awaiting any announcement regarding their plans for where they are taking this franchise.
Captain Marvel 2 - I loved the first movie, Brie Larson, and Carol Danvers. Kamala Khan and Monica Rambeau appearing in this makes me so happy! Hopefully Goose will be back! The Ms. Marvel tv show seems to imply that Captain Marvel is famous enough as a superhero to have merchandise, so I hope this movie explains when and how that happened (presumably during the 5 years after the snap that we didn’t see in Endgame).
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 - Very torn about this one. I really loved the first two movies, but my enthusiasm for the franchise has admittedly soured due to controversies involving certain members of the cast and crew. Will watch it, but not particularly bothered either way.
Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania - I am truly upset by the decision to recast Cassie Lang, perhaps to the point of being irrational. Hopefully I get over it because I have been looking forward to this movie for so long. The plot sounds good and I am anticipating much family cuteness.
Blade - Never saw the original movies and only know the character from Spider-Man: The Animated Series.
Fantastic Four - We all knew this was inevitable. Just give me a comic accurate Susan Storm and a teenage/young adult Johnny Storm (because if we don’t get Spideytorch content then what’s the point?) and I will be happy.
Untitled Deadpool - Not the biggest Deadpool fan, but the second movie was amusing. Will probably watch out of curiosity.
Untitled X-Men/Mutant movie - Not sure how they are going to integrate Mutants into the already very established history of the MCU. If they do go ahead with this movie I hope that it focuses on different characters from the 20th Century Fox X-Men franchise. Personally I don’t want to see Erik and Charles played by anyone else after Ian McKellan, Michael Fassbender, Patrick Stewart, and James McAvoy.
Star Wars:
Obi Wan Kenobi - We have Hayden Christensen! This is not a drill! Honestly I am so happy! He was absolutely incredible in RotS and he truly deserves all the love he’s been getting over the years. As exciting as a reunion between his Vader and Ewan’s Obi Wan will be, a tiny part of me is frustrated because I thought Episode IV implied that their encounter on the Death Star was their first encounter since Mustafar? I’m sure they will find a way to make it work, however. Deborah Chow is an amazing director. I hope they cast a young Luke :3
Andor - Definitely my most anticipated Star Wars project after Obi Wan Kenobi. Really excited to see more of life in the Rebel Alliance, and loving the sound of the “nail-biting spy thriller” angle. Glad that Genevieve O’Reilly is back as Mon Mothma. Keeping my fingers crossed for Jimmy Smits.
The Bad Batch - The animation looks stunning. Always interested to see more of the early days of the Empire.
Ahsoka - I don’t want it
Rangers of the New Republic - Not a lot of information except that it’s “culminating in a climatic event” with other stories, which sounds ugh. Reserving judgement until we learn more and see a trailer.
Lando - Awaiting more info. No word yet on whether Donald Glover or Billy Dee Williams will be back, but we can’t go wrong if either one (or both) are involved.
The Acolyte - Sounds like it could be interesting. Glad to see other time periods in the Star Wars universe being explored.
Star Wars: Visions - Will probably watch for pretty anime animation.
A Droid Story - Sounds like it will be cute, and I love droids so will probably watch.
Rogue Squadron - Unless it’s an adaptation of the EU Rogue Squadron, I’m not particularly interested. If we’re getting Corran Horn, Mirax Terrik, Tycho Celchu, and Wes Janson, however, then I am 100% onboard!
Untitled Taika Waititi Star Wars - Not a fan of Ragnarok as has already been established, nor did I like aspects of his episode of The Mandalorian. Can’t imagine that I will be interested.
Other:
Fate: The Winx Saga (Netflix) - This looks like a cheesy guilty pleasure at best and a dumpster fire at worst. I wish that Prince Sky’s hair was longer. W.I.T.C.H. would have translated better into live-action if they wanted to adapt a mid-2000s era cartoon.
Batwoman Season 2 (The CW) - This looks like a huge improvement from season 1. Judging from the trailer I think they made an excellent decision by bringing in Javicia Leslie. The character dynamics all look really interesting. My most anticipated CW show along with Superman and Lois.
